Technology of installation of plastic panels. DIY installation of PVC wall panels. Economical repair. Calculation of material quantity

All more people they choose not just beautiful ones, but also practical materials for interior decoration of the house. Such materials include PVC panels, the popularity of which is growing every year. The panels are polyvinyl chloride sheets with a decorative coating. They are light and durable. Repairs in which the walls are finished with PVC panels will be durable and will not lose its appearance after years.

The easiest way to have a beautiful front lawn

You've certainly seen the perfect lawn in a movie, on an alley, or perhaps on your neighbor's lawn. Those who have ever tried to grow a green area on their site will no doubt say that it is a huge amount of work. The lawn requires careful planting, care, fertilization, and watering. However, only inexperienced gardeners think this way; professionals have long known about the innovative product - liquid lawn AquaGrazz.

Features of PVC wall panels

PVC sheets – modern finishing material, which has a number of advantages. That is why they are often preferred to other types of decorative coatings. On to the positives PVC use can be attributed:

Despite the obvious advantages, PVC panels are not a panacea for repairs and have a number of disadvantages that do not allow their use in residential premises. These include:

Types of PVC panels for wall decoration

PVC panels have different types and design solutions. Let's consider the main types of material:

The lining consists of long rectangular sheets. Their length reaches 12 meters. The minimum length starts from 3 meters. The width of the sheet ranges from 10 to 50 cm with a thickness of 0.8-1.2 cm. The panel consists of two sheets superimposed on each other, connected inside using thin partitions. The gaps formed by the partitions are through. The lining is intended for finishing walls and ceilings. Mounted on a wall grid made of metal or wood. Almost never decorated in the form of stone.

  • Plastic panels

The panels have the same structure as the lining, but differ from it in dimensions. The most common sheets are 12.2*24.4*0.32 cm. The front side of the panels is an imitation of tiles. Also a very popular pattern is natural stone.

The tiles have a square shape and are available in sizes 30*30 cm or 100*100 cm.

Types of panels according to the method of applying the pattern to the front side

Despite the fact that the panels are made of the same material, the way they are decorated is different. Its brightness and durability depend on how the design is applied. Let's take a closer look at these methods:

  • Thermal transfer drawing

The drawing is bright and can remain clear for many years. The image is transferred to the panel using a screen film, which remains on it due to thermal effects. After transferring the image, the plastic is coated with varnish.

  • Offset printing

The drawing is created using a roller on which the image elements appear. After the design is applied, the PVC is coated with clear varnish. For better protection apply two layers.

  • Lamination

Using lamination, a three-dimensional pattern is created on the panel and any texture is given to it. This is achieved by gluing the film. Laminated PVC panels are moisture resistant and can withstand steam exposure without loss of quality. Laminated PVC panels imitate stone very realistically.

PVC panels also differ in the type of joints between the panels and are available in three versions:

  • Seamless PVC

After installation, such panels form a single, smooth canvas in which the joints are practically invisible. To obtain such a surface, the sheets must be carefully selected, excluding panels with bent or uneven edges from installation. In this case, the sheathing should be smooth and should not have differences.

  • Relief lining

In this case, the sheets of panels are connected in relief. Used in rooms subject to deformation. For example, in new houses that must shrink.

  • Panels with rustication

The main difference between such panels is the chamfer that is present at the end of the sheet.

How to choose plastic panels for finishing the walls of a house?

There are several general criteria that apply when choosing any building material. However, when choosing PVC panels for interior decoration, you need to know some properties of the material. This will help to do right choice, which will not bring disappointment. These criteria include:

  • No external defects on the front side of the panel.
  • Choose panels that have more stiffeners. The heavier the weight of the PVC panel, the better quality it will be during operation.
  • The edges of the panels must be smooth, as they directly affect the appearance of PVC in the interior decoration.
  • There should be no printed marks of stiffeners on the front side.
  • The sheet of plastic panel must be completely painted over, there should be no gaps in the drawings. If the panel imitates stone, its texture should be convex, without inclusions.
  • When bending the sheet, the panel should return to its original state without traces of deformation.
  • Distinguish between ceiling and wall panels. PVC ceiling panels are less durable and have a length of 6-12 meters, wall panels - 2.7-3 m and a thickness of 1 cm.
  • Do not purchase panels with a contrasting pattern to decorate the entire room - after a few years, PVC decoration will cause negativity. Give preference to panels decorated in the form of natural stone.
  • The most best PVC panels– white.
  • Plastic sheets on which the image is applied must be taken with a reserve, since the image will have to be joined later. This is especially true for panels that imitate stone.
  • Matte, glossy or semi-gloss PVC models have the same qualities.

PVC panels with stone pattern

Finishing the interior of a room using natural stone is not cheap. Plastic panels will help solve this issue with minimal costs. Stone on PVC panels – popular design solution. It is in high demand in the building materials market.

PVC panels imitating stone are durable. They are able to serve without losing their decorative properties more than 10 years, while natural stone is subject to destruction and is susceptible to fungal infection.

Tools required for DIY installation of PVC panels

  • Screwdriver
  • Jigsaw
  • Construction stapler
  • Rubber mallet for removing the panel
  • Putty knife
  • Building level
  • Drill

Materials that make up the frame for mounting PVC panels

The sheathing is not sold in finished form, it must be installed independently, based on the parameters of the room. For DIY installation you need to purchase:

  • Start profile

The profile that is needed to create base levels. In the future, the entire sheathing will be aligned using them.

  • Finish profile

A profile that is installed after installing the last PVC panel.

  • External corner profile

The profile required to form the corners.

  • Internal corner profile

Profile designed for installation in internal corners.

Helps lengthen the plastic sheet if necessary. Also used to create mounts for mirrors.

Do-it-yourself fastening of PVC panels to a metal frame

The most popular way to install PVC panels is to install them on a frame made of wood or metal. Let's look at how to make PVC sheathing with your own hands on C-shaped metal profiles.

    • Prepare the walls for future sheathing: remove decorative coating, which covers the walls in this moment. Treat the surface with an antifungal compound.
    • Decide how you plan to place the PVC panels. If their orientation is vertical, then first attach the slats at the top and bottom, parallel to the ceiling and floor. When positioned horizontally, the side rails are attached perpendicularly.

  • Secure the bottom rail near the place where the baseboard is attached. Using a level, align the vertical profiles in the corners of the room. Make sure that the outer surfaces of the slats are flush with the already fixed profiles.
  • Try to mount the top rail closer to the ceiling, practically eliminating the gap. However, if the top slab of the room will be finished with PVC panels, then the distance between the batten and the ceiling should be at least 1.2 cm.
  • During the process of creating the sheathing, use a level and plumb line to control the evenness of installation of the profiles. If there are gaps between the wall and the profiles, seal them with wood spacers.

  • Make sure the inner slats form a "T" shape with long side slabs and were flush with the upper and lower profiles. Maintain a step of 0.4-0.6 m.
  • Use a plumb line to draw vertical lines at the corners of the room. Secure the starting and finishing profiles along the lines using a stapler.
  • Attach a horizontal starting profile to the top profile, then measure the distance between it and the floor.
  • Insert a suitable sized PVC sheet into the groove of the first profile and check with a level that the sheets are correctly positioned.
  • If you are satisfied with the result, then secure the PVC panel with a construction stapler. Insert the next panel into the groove of the first and connect them together. The seam should disappear. Check with a level and secure.
  • Lay all existing PVC sheets to the end of the wall, except for the last sheet.
  • Attach the finishing profile to the frame. If the last sheet does not fit completely, then cut off the excess, having previously measured the distance between last sheet and a wall. Bend the last PVC panel slightly and install it on seat. Do not pin.
  • If you need to continue cladding the wall around the perimeter, then you can do this after installing the corner profile in the corner of the room.

How to fix PVC sheets yourself using double-sided tape

If the wall is pre-prepared, then the plastic sheets of the panels are attached to it using double sided tape on a foam basis.

To create a sheathing from adhesive tape, use duct tape width from 0.6 cm and thickness 2-4 mm. Before starting work, prepare PVC sheets and cut them to the height of the room. Draw vertical lines on the walls with a pencil in those places where you plan to place PVC sheets.

Glue the tape on reverse side panels and attach the sheet according to the marks on the wall. Check each attached sheet with a level and adjust if necessary. Once you've finished trimming the walls, secure the baseboards and moldings.

Fixing PVC panels with glue on the wall

This method is only suitable for perfectly smooth walls. The wall can be plasterboard or leveled with putty. Due to the absence of a frame, the room will not change in size.

To attach the sheets to the wall, use liquid nails and a glue gun. Before starting work, prime the walls, this will help create adhesion between the glue and the surface. Apply an antifungal agent.

Attach starting profiles to the upper and lower parts of the walls and install a PVC sheet there. pre-lubricated with glue. It is important to remember that at least 5 minutes must pass between applying the glue to the sheet and gluing it to the wall. In order to bring out the corners, use plastic corners 0.2 * 0.2 cm.

General recommendations for working with polyvinyl chloride panels

  • Before starting work, let the PVC panels lie in the room for at least 2 hours.
  • Finish the walls only after the floor and ceiling are done.
  • Make removable panels in the places where communications are located.
  • Draw in advance electrical diagram for the room and prepare sheets of PVC panels: cut holes according to the location of the fittings in the diagram.

The use of PVC panels greatly reduces time and material costs during repairs. You can install plastic sheets yourself. At the same time, the appearance and quality of work will not be affected: plastic sheets are so easy to install that even a novice in repairs can handle them.

Plastic panels - inexpensive material, used for finishing both residential and utility rooms. This type of wall and ceiling cladding is inexpensive, but its decorative qualities are very good. Among other things, the advantages of this material include ease of installation. Installing PVC panels with your own hands will not be difficult for anyone.

Which material to choose

Before you begin an operation such as installing walls yourself, you should decide on the actual type of material. For interior decoration for various purposes Several types of plastic elements can be used inside:

    PVC lining. This material is similar in appearance to its wooden counterpart - it is small in width and often has a corresponding coloring.

    Sheet panels. This variety is similar to sheets of decorative plywood.

    Conventional panels in the form of a plastic “board” with tongue/groove fastening.

When choosing a specific type of material, you should focus primarily on the specifics and design features of a particular room. Plastic lining has the advantage that it does not “weight down” the room and gives it a somewhat natural look. Sheet panels are usually used for finishing walls and ceilings of large areas. A very good solution, for example, would be to cover the attic with them or ground floor country house. Versatility is one of the main advantages of a material such as PVC, which is simply ideal, just like for a bathroom, living rooms, hallway, etc.

Cost of PVC panels

It is not for nothing that plastic elements of this type are considered a budget finishing option. Very low cost is one of the main advantages of such materials as PVC panels. The price for them ranges from 200-300 rubles per lamella in the form of a “board”. The width of the plastic decorative element is usually 25-30 cm. Thus, for finishing, for example, a wall five meters long, you will have to spend only about 4-6 thousand rubles. If you wish, you can find PVC panels cheaper - for 100-150 rubles. However, too beautiful and original design they are unlikely to differ.

What tools will you need?

Do-it-yourself installation of PVC wall panels on a special frame is carried out. To install it you will need a drill, building level, roulette. The panels themselves usually have to be cut during installation. Therefore, you will also need to prepare a wood saw or jigsaw. If you plan to make additional insulation of the room, you will have to purchase a trowel for applying glue and construction stapler.

Beam for frame

In addition to the panels themselves, before starting the sheathing you will need to buy decorative PVC trim. The weight is insignificant. Therefore, it is not necessary to purchase timber with a cross-section that is too large. An option of 3x3 cm or 4x2.5 cm will be sufficient. The exception is those cases when the walls are additionally insulated. Insulator slabs are installed between frame elements. Therefore, timber for this type of cladding should be selected with a cross-section corresponding to the thickness of the insulation. You will also need to purchase glue for the slabs, dowels, primer and vapor barrier film.

Other types of frame

PVC wall panels are usually mounted not on paving stones, but on metal carcass. A wooden one in a bathroom, sauna or bathhouse can simply lead the way. Recently, a thin plastic frame is often used under PVC panels. Its use allows you to save several centimeters of room space. However, it is still recommended to use this option only in rooms with very smooth walls.

Frame assembly

The base elements for the panels can be installed horizontally or vertically. It all depends on the direction in which the walls will be finished with PVC panels. The beam or profile is attached according to the level. Holes for dowels are pre-drilled in the wall. Since the joint between the panels and the ceiling is usually covered with a decorative beam or profile in this place must be installed. The same goes for the corners of the room. Corner strips are installed here.

When installing the frame, it is important to strictly adhere not only to the verticality or horizontality of the elements. It is also necessary to ensure that all the bars are located in the same plane. PVC panels are an elastic material. However, distortions will give the wall a not very neat appearance. You can adjust the position of the beams in the right places using small wooden wedges.

Before installing the frame, you should think about where heavy wall cabinets, shelves, pictures, and so on will subsequently hang. In these places you need to fill additional horizontal bars.

Do-it-yourself installation of PVC wall panels

If insulation is necessary between the elements of the installed frame, polystyrene foam boards are first fixed with glue. Additionally, they are secured with special “fungi”. Next, a vapor barrier film is stretched over the frame.

Actually, the walls themselves with panels start from the corner. Install here starting bar. The ridge of the first panel is inserted into its groove. The lamella is attached to the frame with special brackets using a stapler. Next, the second panel is inserted into the first and also fixed. The last lamella on the wall is inserted into a pre-fixed finishing strip. If the width of the PVC element turns out to be too large, it can be cut off, but not more than 1/3.

After all the walls are covered with panels, they begin finishing the space above the doors and windows. On final stage install the upper decorative plinth.

Do-it-yourself installation of PVC wall panels should be carried out in compliance with the following recommendations:

    The frame can be mounted on uneven or even unplastered walls. This will save on finishing costs.

    The beams should be attached to the wall only using galvanized screws or dowels.

    The first sheathing element must be aligned as carefully as possible. Otherwise, all panels will be installed crookedly.

    If interior decoration The walls of the room are made in the summer; the panels are kept at room temperature for at least 12 hours before installation. When installing in winter, this period is increased to 2 days (if the panels were stored in the cold).

    The slats should be unpacked as carefully as possible. This material is not very resistant to various kinds mechanical damage. You need to pull out the plastic elements carefully by the edge and only one by one.

    A hacksaw for cutting plastic should be used with fine teeth.

As you can see, installation of such material as PVC panels, the price of which is low, is an extremely simple procedure. The main thing when doing this work is to install the frame evenly. The lamellas themselves should be adjusted to each other as tightly as possible. In this case, the cladding will be neat and durable, and the design of the room will be cozy and attractive.

PVC panels are a popular finishing material that is durable, practical and affordable. Such coatings can be used for cladding walls and for decorating ceilings. Installing plastic panels is quite simple and quick. It is quite possible to cope with such work on your own. Today we will talk in more detail about how to attach PVC panels to walls.

Advantages and disadvantages

Plastic panels are in demand and widespread wall covering. They can be found in many stores specializing in the sale of finishing materials.

Wide sheets and linings made of plastic are used in great demand because they have many positive qualities.

  • First of all, it should be noted the durability of such finishing materials. In our climate, their service life can be more than 20 years.
  • Such materials are wear-resistant. They are not afraid of dampness and moisture. In addition, they are not susceptible to rotting, like natural wood.
  • Plastic panels do not require complex and regular maintenance. Dust and dirt do not accumulate on their surface. If the finish gets dirty, it can be cleaned with a regular damp cloth.
  • PVC panels have soundproofing properties, making them ideal for wall cladding.

  • Using plastic panels, you can divide the space into functional zones.
  • Plastic panels are lightweight materials, which makes them quite easy to work with. All processes can be handled without the involvement of assistants.
  • Plastic is a very malleable material - it can easily be processed through various types of processing. Therefore, in stores you can find PVC panels with a variety of colors, textures, prints and patterns.

  • These finishing materials can be used in interiors of a wide variety of styles. The only exception would be elaborate and pompous ensembles, which should contain exclusively expensive and natural elements.
  • You can install plastic sheets both in a city apartment and in a private house.
  • Behind the panels you can hide various communications, for example, electrical wiring.
  • It is quite possible to install PVC panels on walls with your own hands, since this process is not difficult or inaccessible. To do this, you do not need to stock up on expensive tools.

Certainly, PVC wall panels are not ideal finishing materials. They also have their own weaknesses.

Knowing all the advantages and disadvantages of PVC panels, it will be easier to work with them. You can avoid many mistakes during the installation process.

Criterias of choice

Polyvinyl chloride sheets produced by various manufacturers have different properties and performance characteristics. When purchasing a suitable material, you need to pay attention to its quality - this main criterion, which should be relied upon.

  • their stiffeners have damage (even barely noticeable) or are completely deformed;
  • the stiffeners protrude too much;
  • if the lines of the design on the front half are poorly defined, and there is also blurring of the edges;

  • scratches and other minor damage are visible on the surface of the panels;
  • lamellas from one set differ from each other in shade and brightness (such a finish will look inharmonious and awkward on the walls);
  • panels from one set have various sizes(in this case, the finishing installation technology will be noticeably more complicated, since elements of different sizes will not be fixed properly).

Pay attention to the decorative layer of the panels. Any drawings, prints and paints should not be blurry or too dull. These features may indicate low quality material. Such coatings will quickly lose their original appearance.

Currently, in stores you can find polyvinyl chloride panels made in China and Europe. European products are considered to be of higher quality.

When choosing a suitable material, you need to pay attention to its density. It is this parameter that determines how durable and wear-resistant the panel is. This indicator is influenced by the number of rigid ribs that are located in the inner part of the sheets.

The optimal indicators are:

  • thickness of the front side – 2-1.5 mm;
  • number of stiffeners – 20-30;
  • total weight of the part is 2-1.7 kg/m2.

To make sure the material is reliable and durable, press it with your finger. The front side of the panel should bend slightly under its pressure, and then quickly return to its original state. If the lamella is severely deformed, this indicates that it contains a large amount of chalk - such materials do not last long and are very fragile.

Preparatory stage

If you decide to install PVC panels yourself, then you should adhere to a specific work plan. If you do everything correctly at each stage, the result will not disappoint you.

First you need to prepare the wall base for future cladding with plastic. this work is especially important if you plan to attach PVC panels in a frameless manner.

Work algorithm.

  • First you need to remove old trim and any elements that may fall off the wall.
  • It is also necessary to get rid of all floor defects. If there are noticeable potholes or cracks on their surface, then they should be repaired with a suitable solution.
  • Areas that are too protruding need to be trimmed down.
  • When the wall is leveled and all defects have been eliminated, it must be treated with a high-quality primer with antibacterial components. Such coatings are necessary to ensure that the base is protected from the formation of mold or mildew.

Only after all the work has been done to prepare the walls can you proceed to constructing the sheathing (if you are using a frame method for installing the material).

Tools and accessories

For the installation of polyvinyl chloride panels, it is necessary to properly prepare and stock up on everything necessary tools and components.

You will need these tools:

  • tape measure with a pencil or marker (indelible) to mark;
  • a hacksaw with small teeth for cutting sheet panels;
  • building level and plumb line so as not to encounter distortions and unevenness;
  • triangle;
  • plastic profile, slats for decorating the corners of the structure;

  • self-tapping screws, dowel-nails, clamps for fixing different elements based;
  • screwdriver and hammer drill;
  • sealing compound;
  • glue;
  • antiseptic.

Also in the process you will need special accessories:

  • external and internal corners;
  • docking profiles;
  • starting profiles;
  • F-shaped profiles;
  • ceiling and floor plinths.

All tools and accessories must be of high quality and reliable.

Calculation

It is recommended to proceed to finishing work only after all the necessary calculations have been made. This stage is needed to find out the exact number of PVC panels that you will need for wall cladding. Thanks to accurate calculations, you can avoid unnecessary overpayments due to the purchase of material with a large supply.

Fastening PVC sheets involves their horizontal or vertical arrangement. In this case, the choice remains only with the owners.

  • first you need to measure the entire room (that is, find out the length around the perimeter);
  • then you should subtract the width of window and door openings;
  • Now the remainder must be divided by the width of one PVC panel.

As a result of such simple calculations, you will get the number of panels needed to finish the room. It is recommended to add a couple of additional units to the resulting value. This is necessary so that you have a reserve in case some parts are damaged.

As for calculating the amount of material horizontally, it is carried out as follows:

  • first you need to measure the area of the room;
  • then the area of door and window openings should be subtracted from it;
  • the resulting number must be divided by the area of one panel from the kit.

Add 10% to the final figure - this will be a reserve. It is worth considering that when laying horizontally, plastic panels will have to be cut, so you will have leftovers in the form of PVC scraps.

Installation methods

Installation of plastic panels cannot be called too complicated. According to experts, it is quite possible to cope with such work alone, since PVC sheets do not have much weight.

There are two main methods for installing such facing materials. The first of them is frame. When choosing this installation option, you must be prepared to manufacture a reliable and high-quality sheathing to which the plastic sheets will be attached. The second installation method is frameless. With this option, you do not have to make a separate frame, but you will need to carefully prepare the wall base for the future application of finishing materials. Otherwise, the PVC panels will not adhere tightly and reliably to the floors.

It is worth considering in more detail how the installation of PVC sheets occurs in both cases.

On the frame

When you have completed your preparation rough floor, you can begin preparing a high-quality frame. It can be made of metal profiles or wood. Both options are quite reliable and durable. However, if you want to build a structure from wood, then it must be additionally treated with antiseptic agents to protect it from rotting and drying out.

The guide battens must be installed perpendicular to the PVC panels. Simply put, if you are going to attach the sheets horizontally, then the sheathing should be vertical and vice versa.

The frame strips should be mounted at a distance of 30 cm - given value is optimal in this case. These parts must be attached at the beginning and end of the wall, as well as around door and window openings.

Frame structure It is recommended to fasten under plastic panels to the bases with dowels. 6x40 mm fasteners are inserted into the concrete floor (this is necessary so that a piece does not fall off on the other side of the concrete base), and 6x60 mm into the brick floor. It is recommended to install fasteners keeping a distance of 50-60 cm.

The sheathing must be placed in one plane– this way the plastic covering will turn out smooth and neat. To achieve this effect, you can use small wooden pads or regular pieces of plywood and install them under the frame strips. Do not forget that these elements also need to be treated with antiseptics.

It is also permissible to use special perforated hangers, which are usually used for plasterboard ceiling structures. Such elements are necessary for placing metal profiles in one plane, but they can also be used in the case of wood frames.

If you plan to use it to build a frame plastic profiles, then you should consider one important nuance: these elements should only be located perpendicular to the polyvinyl chloride panels. The slightest deviation can lead to many problems, for example, the clamps may not close and will not perform their main function. To avoid such errors, you should constantly check the verticals and horizontals.

Experts also advise installing wooden frame elements around the perimeter of the room. the same thickness as PVC profiles, since the starting panels will be attached to these bases.

Next, at the floor and ceiling level, a starting or ceiling plinth should be used. The starting element is a narrow plastic strip. Ceiling plinth– a shaped part with a special cutout.

Laying of PVC profiles should begin in one of the corners(at the top or bottom). The finishing should be fastened to the frame strips. Fasteners are selected depending on the material you used to construct the sheathing. The result is a structure that resembles a frame. It is into this that the PVC panels will be inserted.

Next, you need to trim the starting lamella in accordance with the length and height of the wall. To cut off excess pieces, you should use a hacksaw or a special metal saw. When cutting the panel, do not press too hard on it with your foot or hand - you will push it or break it. In order for the first part to fit correctly in the right place, you need to measure its length again. Subtract 4-5 cm from it and cut it off.

It is necessary to cut off the protruding spike at the starting strip. After this, the cut side of this part must be inserted into the corner profile, tucking the edges into the upper and lower profiles. It is worth tapping lightly with your palm to drive the bar as deep as possible.

Be sure to attach the level to the edge installed element to check its evenness. If the part is positioned correctly, then you can safely fix it to each lathing strip.

When you install the launch panel, you should cut the second one, join it to the first one and secure it. Further actions are very simple and uniform. Problems often arise only with the installation of the last lamella on the ceiling. Most often, this part has to be cut to width, after which you need to try to tuck it into both the groove and the profile (starting or corner) at the same time. This is not always possible to do carefully, since the plastic wrinkles easily. To avoid such a problem, you should not install a second corner profile. In this case, this part is put on a finishing panel adjusted to size. These assembled elements are then joined to the previous lamella. The profile is assigned only after these actions.

Further covering of the floors with PVC panels occurs in exactly the same way.

According to experienced finishers, the frame method of installing plastic panels is reliable, but more complex than frameless.

Frameless

In cases where the floors are smooth, plastered or covered with plasterboard, they do not require the installation of lathing for plastic finishing. In this case, it will only take away the free space in the room. PVC panels are attached to such bases using silicone, liquid nails or polyurethane foam.

However, in this case, the starting panels will still have to be fixed to the walls using dowels.

After this, the following is applied to the back half of the sheets:

  • foam (it is better to lay it on PVC sheets in a zigzag pattern);
  • silicone (it is recommended to apply it to the panels in small portions at intervals of 10-15 cm).

Then the bar is inserted into the profiles and pressed tightly. After this, it is fixed using fasteners. Further installation of plastic panels should continue according to the same principle.

The main advantage of this installation method is that it takes minimal free time. However, you can only use it if the walls in your home have a perfectly flat surface without serious flaws. It is worth considering that in the future it will hardly be possible to remove such finishing without damaging the plastic.

Cladding walls with plastic is not the most difficult job. The main thing is to follow the instructions provided and use high-quality materials/tools.

If you decide to do such finishing work yourself, you should take into account some recommendations from specialists.

  • It is not recommended to combine PVC panels with more expensive materials. For example, a combination of luxurious marble and polyvinyl chloride will look ridiculous and disharmonious.
  • According to experienced craftsmen, hot melt adhesive cannot be used for PVC.
  • To carry out proper installation of panels around sockets, you should make all the necessary holes for them in the material in advance. Be sure to turn off the electricity before doing this.

  • If in the bathroom or kitchen you have designed wooden sheathing, then it is necessary to add a couple more millimeters to the resulting indentation, since wood is subject to deformation under the influence of dampness, moisture and temperature changes.
  • PVC panels are a popular and in demand material, but they are not recommended for installation in the bedroom (both children's and adults). For such rooms it is better to choose more “breathable” materials.
  • It is not recommended to cover walls with PVC panels immediately after purchase. They must rest in a dry and warm room for at least 2 hours.
  • Wall finishing should begin only after the floor and ceiling are ready.
  • The advantages of polyvinyl chloride panels include their ability to hide various communications. However, these elements must still be accessible to the owners. To do this, use removable inserts.

  • If you use liquid nails to fasten PVC sheets, then you should not delay removing their sagging - these compounds dry out very quickly.
  • Wall finishing materials should not have different openings at the junction points. This must be monitored when selecting plastic panels.
  • At each stage of laying PVC panels, it is necessary to check the evenness of the structure using a level. This device will help avoid bevels and curvature of the finish.
  • Experts recommend purchasing high-quality polyvinyl chloride panels. Don’t look for too cheap coatings - such materials are already available. Ask the seller for quality certificates for the canvas. Study them carefully. Such finishing materials should not contain toxic compounds.

Design options

Polyvinyl chloride panels look organic in many settings. Designers do not recommend combining such coatings in one ensemble with very expensive and pompous coatings (for example, natural stone). Compared to such finishing materials, PVC sheets may seem too modest and even “poor”.

Plastic panels can enliven the interior of the hallway, corridor, living room, bathroom and kitchen. The main thing is to choose the coverings suitable color and textures.

On small kitchen loft style dining area can be distinguished by polyvinyl chloride panels, imitating dark red brickwork. Against such a background, a laconic white table And metal chairs with dark wooden backs and armrests. The dining nook will look complete if you hang a large dark clock above the table.

PVC panels can be used to decorate a kitchen backsplash. For example, in a room with burgundy walls, a white floor and the same white furniture, an apron trimmed with a wide plastic sheet with a picture of coffee beans will look impressive.

In the hallway, PVC panels are most often used. In such rooms, coatings that imitate brick and stone look especially attractive. As a rule, they are adjacent to regular wallpaper neutral colors. For example, canvases imitated with light brown stone will look harmonious in tandem with yellow wallpaper and a wooden entrance door.

Also, PVC panels with a silk-screen printing effect look good in a hallway or corridor. Against the background of such light canvases, both entrance and interior doors in dark shades look advantageous. Such coatings look attractive next to wooden furniture and decorative items.

With the help of polyvinyl chloride panels you can enliven the interior of the living room. In such environments, 3D coatings with relief surfaces look especially original and stylish. For example, with spectacular textured black canvases you can decorate accent wall with a TV, and place a dark chocolate woven sofa opposite it. To prevent the ensemble from seeming too dark and oppressive, light laminate should be placed on the floor.

For a budget renovation, this is simply an ideal option. They look beautiful and are not too difficult to install. Covering a room with them yourself will not be difficult. Of course, wall finishing with plastic panels must be carried out in compliance with all required technologies.

How to choose plastic panels

You can purchase this material at any hardware store. When choosing, first of all you should pay attention to the manufacturer. You should not buy the cheapest option, especially one made in China. For the most part, such panels are made from low-quality raw materials using poor glue and varnish. Subsequently, they will probably begin to release substances harmful to health. Besides cheap material fades very quickly.

Much more a good decision will cover the kitchen, hallway, bathroom or toilet walls with plastic panels of domestic or European production. Among other things, when purchasing you should pay attention to:

  • The thickness of the front part of the panel. The higher this parameter, the better.
  • Appearance. The color of the panel should be uniform.
  • Number of stiffeners. The more there are, the stronger the material.

When purchasing, be sure to try to insert the shelf of one panel into the groove of another. The fastening should be as rigid as possible. Also, several panels need to be inspected by turning them at an angle. Protruding tubercles from the stiffeners should not be visible on the front surface.

Material calculation

The width of a standard plastic panel is 25-27 cm, height - 2.6-2.7 m. In order to find out exactly how many elements you will need, you should measure and add up the length of all the walls. The result obtained is divided by 25 (27). It is worth purchasing panels with a small margin.

Installation features

Wall finishing with plastic panels can be done using two technologies: with or without a frame. In the first case, a wooden beam is pre-filled onto the surface to be finished or a metal or PVC profile is attached. In the second, the panels are glued directly to the wall using this method. This method is less expensive.

The frame must be used when the walls in the room are not too smooth. In this case, thin planks or pieces of plywood are placed under it in the right places. This allows you to correct the blockage of the wall. Fastening by gluing is carried out only on previously leveled surfaces.

Assembling a wooden frame

Most often, when performing such an operation as decorating walls with plastic panels, lathing is used. This is a cheap and very easy-to-install material. You can attach it to the walls, for example, using self-tapping screws with plastic dowels. The beam is fixed on the surfaces perpendicular to the intended location of the panels. To install a wooden frame you will need a screwdriver, a building level, a plumb line, a tape measure and a hacksaw. The timber itself must first be thoroughly coated with an antiseptic. It is also advisable to treat it with a fire retardant.

Installing panels with liquid nails

Fastening plastic panels to the wall is done as follows:

  • The glue is applied to each of the four corners of the panel and along its entire length in a zigzag pattern.
  • The element is pressed tightly against the wall surface and held there for several seconds.
  • Coat the next panel in exactly the same way and, inserting it with a short shelf into the groove of the previous one, press it tightly against the wall.
  • The last element is cut to length and snapped into the finishing strip.

Sometimes it can be difficult to glue plastic panels to the wall. They stick very poorly, for example, to surfaces finished with lime or water-dispersion paint. In this case, the use of self-tapping screws is allowed. Under them, holes are pre-drilled in the wall into which dowels are inserted. Depending on circumstances, these two methods can be combined. That is, glue the panel on very smooth surfaces, and where there are small bumps or holes or the wall material does not have very good adhesive properties, use self-tapping screws.

The plastic one is exactly the same. If the walls are uneven, it is usually installed on a PVC profile, and glued to flat surfaces using liquid nails.

Features of installation in the bathroom

The bathroom is a room with high humidity. Therefore, using timber to assemble the frame is highly not recommended here. The tree is distinguished by its ability to absorb excess moisture from the air. Therefore, the sheathing made from it may begin to swell and deform. As a result, your new plastic panel cladding will simply fail. Extremely unaesthetic gaps will appear between the elements.

Most often, bathroom walls are finished with plastic panels using PVC profiles. For heavily littered walls, it is better to take aluminum strips.

Leveling the walls if the panels are to be glued is done using moisture-resistant plaster. Such mixtures are usually made based on cement. Alabaster trees do not tolerate high humidity very well.

Kitchen: wall decoration with plastic panels

The humidity in this room is also slightly elevated. But not as much as in the bathroom. Therefore, it is possible to install timber sheathing here.

Plastic is a flammable material. Therefore, you should not paste it over the wall gap between the lower and upper cabinets kitchen set. Tiles are usually installed here. A particularly bad solution would be to use a material such as plastic panels to finish the walls in the immediate vicinity of the stove.

Installation in other rooms

Living rooms, children's rooms, offices and bedrooms are rarely decorated with this material. Usually it is chosen only for covering the walls of living rooms of small brick or concrete country houses. In this case, the main attention should also be paid to the choice of material for the sheathing. If the cottage is not heated, it is not recommended to use timber. The panels themselves are not afraid of temperature changes or high humidity and will last in such a house for a long time. The cobblestone frame will crack and warp much earlier. Also for the dacha ideal option can become PVC or aluminum profile.

Very often, this material is used to decorate toilet walls. Plastic panels can be used to cover a restroom both in a city apartment and in a private house. In this case, installation can be carried out on any type of sheathing.

As you can see, installing plastic panels is a fairly simple procedure. All you need for high-quality sheathing is the ability to hold a screwdriver in your hands.

Nowadays, hygienic and easy to install PVC panels are used in many construction and repair work. This includes covering walls with plastic panels in bathrooms, showers, kitchen areas, and finishing of slopes when installing double-glazed windows, as well as covering ceilings in swimming pools. They are also often used for cladding outer surface walls

The main advantage of the panels is their versatility. They can be mounted on almost any surface (wall or ceiling), be it brick or tile, however, their primary purpose is installation in a “wet” environment. Other advantages include durability, affordable cost, corrosion and ultraviolet resistance, and water resistance. In addition, plastic, unlike tiles, is warm to the touch, which virtually eliminates condensation.

Care for plastic panels after correct installation practically not required. They are not difficult to wash, just do not use products containing abrasive particles or solvents.

In order not to be disappointed in the result, you must first slowly study the attached instructions. Each manufacturer makes its own recommendations for installing its products, but general principle everyone has the same:

  • At least half an hour before installation, the panels must be brought into a room at room temperature;
  • Old coating (tiles, wallpaper), as well as dirt and dilapidated plaster must be removed from the surface on which sheathing or installation will be carried out. If the tile is left, it needs to be sanded to improve the adhesion of the adhesive to the surface;
  • The panels must be cut using a hacksaw. You can also use hot construction knife or 15 tooth saw;
  • When cutting panels, they should be placed with the front surface facing up;
  • The protective film should be removed only after all work is completed. Of course, if there was one at all. This will help protect the plastic from accidental scratches, which are not uncommon during sheathing, cutting and installation;
  • You need to wear special glasses when working with cutting tools;
  • The adhesive must be applied directly to work surface in the form of a thin and even mesh. There should be no empty areas left.
  • If the wall or ceiling is damp, you can use metal studs or moisture-resistant materials. When covering this unique frame with panels, it is very important to provide ventilation. A small gap between the panels and the wall can serve very well as ventilation;
  • If it is necessary to install sockets (telephone, power supplies) under the panels, it is necessary to use special strips;
  • If there is one nearby heating devices, you need to check the temperature of the air they heat. Maximum permissible temperature– 60 degrees;

Installation of plastic panels

Small nails are evenly driven into a specially designed protrusion (“lip”) on the panel. Hammering must be done carefully so as not to damage the plastic with a hammer. This method is used only when covering wooden sheathing or walls. Fastening staples can be a good alternative to nails, but for them you need to purchase a stapler.

When sheathing metal sheathing, you need to use special screws.

Gluing PVC panels

This method is only suitable for smooth, dry surfaces. There should be no dust on the wall or ceiling greasy stains. You need to take special glue - “liquid nails”. It must be emphasized that when working with panels, it is prohibited to use glue containing solvents or cleaners.

If the shower wall is being covered, then it is necessary to leave a small (3 millimeters) gap at the bottom. This is necessary so that when the pallet expands, the material does not “tear”. It is better to fill the seams silicone sealant. For complete waterproofness, the ceiling gaps must also be treated with sealant.

Panel care

Plastic panels should be washed exclusively with a soft cloth, no washcloths, hard brushes, rough fabrics, etc. With the exception of special products, you cannot use any detergent compositions, especially if they contain solvents or abrasive particles. In most cases, plain soapy water is sufficient. After cleaning, the surface should be rinsed again with clean water.

And here it is visual video for panel installation:

Recently, plastic has been widely used for finishing various surfaces not only in offices, but also in residential premises due to its simplicity and ease of installation, as well as technical characteristics and reasonable cost of the material.

There is a wide range, which is represented by a large selection of colors and sizes.

In order to sheathe walls with plastic, there is a technology for performing the work that allows you to do the sheathing yourself, while saving money on calling specialists.

Basic technical parameters of plastic

Plastic has the following properties, which include:

  • Attractive appearance;
  • Safety and harmlessness of the material;
  • Affordable price;
  • Simple and quick way installation;
  • Durability;
  • No need for special care;
  • Moisture resistance;
  • Strength and reliability of modern plastic panels.

Thanks to the application modern technologies and wealth color solutions You can achieve not only an attractive appearance of the walls, but also create a cozy and residential atmosphere.

Currently, manufacturers offer not only plain panels, but also the ability to create bright patterns and even designs.

Disadvantages of using plastic

Despite the significant number of positive aspects, this material also has some disadvantages.

Which include:

  • Unhygienic: the material “does not breathe”;
  • Quite a poor ratio of vapor permeability and humidity;
  • A prerequisite for leveling the walls to ensure a flat and smooth surface;
  • Combustibility of the material with the release of toxic and harmful substances.

Design features of plastic panels

Before covering the walls with plastic, you need to understand their design and the rules for performing the work.

Plastic panels are made by extrusion from polyvinyl chloride, which has a high coefficient of thermal expansion, so minor deformation is allowed during their installation.

The panels come in different lengths and widths, and the thickness is usually 5-10 mm.

A special feature of the material is its moisture resistance, resistance to aggressive chemicals and additional thermal insulation due to the porous structure of the material.

Do-it-yourself installation of PVC panels.

For sheathing they are used Various types profiles.

Types of metal profiles for lathing

To facilitate installation work, various types of metal profiles are used.

Which include:

  • Starting.

    It is used as a starting strip from which installation begins. Can be used both floor and ceiling;

  • Finishing. Installed at the end of the work and helps to easily and efficiently install and secure the last strip;
  • External and internal corner profiles. Applicable for high-quality finishing any angles;
  • Docking. The main purpose is decorative finishing of various elements on the surface.

Required tools for installation

To complete the job you will need the following set of tools, which includes Circular Saw, a construction stapler with staples, a spatula and a rubber mallet.

A saw with fine teeth is necessary to obtain an even and high-quality cut of the panels.

A stapler will be needed when installing a wooden frame, and using a mallet with a special hook, pull up the strips and place them in the appropriate place to create a complete canvas without seams or gaps.

A spatula is needed to bend the finishing profile when installing the last panel at the final stage of installation.

The materials you will need are a pre-calculated number of plastic panels, metal profiles for the sheathing and self-tapping screws.

Installation process of plastic panels

At the preliminary stage, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the walls and clean them of all kinds of dirt and dust. Next, they begin to install the frame, for which metal profiles of various types are mainly used.

Can be used for lathing and wooden beams, which should be treated with special antiseptic agents in order to ensure their protection from moisture and subsequent rotting.

Install the starting and finishing profiles and guides.

On next stage the plastic strip is slightly bent and installed in the profile, and then inserted into the upper stop.

The panels are connected to each other, tightly joining, forming a seamless surface. All stripes are installed in the same way until the last one. The last panel is cut slightly in width taking into account thermal expansion, and then the finishing profile is bent with a spatula and inserted into the groove until it stops.

This procedure will require the help of an assistant. high-quality fastening and installation of plastic.

For decorative finishing of corners and baseboards, special plastic strips and corners are used, designed to hide small cracks and gaps. With high-quality lathing, the result is a flat and smooth wall surface without defects.

Their use significantly helps to facilitate further design and repair.

How to properly mount wall panels: design and installation features

When we start a renovation, we always think about the costs first, and also try to spend as little time as possible.

And, of course, don’t pollute your apartment too much. For such results, wall panels are usually excellent; you can find out how to install them in this instruction.

Required materials and tools

How to attach plastic panels Not everyone knows.

Even if someone has some idea about this process, they still face some kind of problems. In order to attach such panels, you do not have to specially level the walls or ceiling. Bathrooms, kitchens, and the like are best suited for this process.

By the way, using plastic wall panels you can create a luxurious room that will always be a pleasure to be in. As for the means at hand, here you also won’t have to think long; a few tools that are very easy to find at hand will be enough.

So what do we need? Below is list of tools that will be required in the process.

If you have prepared all the listed tools, you can begin the process.

The first thing you need is a tape measure. Measure the surface on which the panels will be installed so you can immediately know how much material will be used. If plastic panels will be mounted on walls, they must be completely cleaned of wallpaper, dust and, if necessary, paint.

Fastening panels using lathing

There are two ways to attach wall panels: directly on the wall or on a specially prepared sheathing.

In the second case, the wall must be perfectly flat if you want a high-quality result in your kitchen, or in another room in which the installation takes place.

So, in the case of lathing, you will need slats that need to be screwed to the wall at a certain distance from each other.

If the tracks are installed on walls, the width between the slats should be approximately 40-45 cm, in the case of a ceiling 30-35 cm. Regarding the direction of fastening, the slats should be fastened perpendicularly.

The material of the wall also matters. If it is concrete or brick, it is better to screw the slats using dowels; if the walls are wooden, ordinary self-tapping screws will do. Do not rush to start working immediately after reading these instructions. You must understand how this process happens so that there are no difficulties in the process.

Some features of fastening wall panels:

  • If you use nails when removing the structure in the future, their reuse will be impossible due to major damage;
  • Clamps are a good option for fastening;
  • As mentioned earlier, self-tapping screws are ideal for fastening;
  • You can also think about fastening with staples using a special stapler.

If everything is ready for installation, you can begin.

You need to do the steps in the same order as below:

If difficulties arise during the installation process, you can find a lot of video material on the Internet that describes in detail and, most importantly, shows the entire process.

Fastening with clips

If you decide to install directly on the wall, without using lathing, you must be sure that the room in which the installation is taking place is dry and the walls are perfectly level.

For example, this could be the kitchen. However, in this case, be sure that your kitchen is a really dry room. The exhaust system must be in place.

So in this installation option you will need special clips, with which the panels will be attached to the slats.

The panels are made of a material that can change with temperature changes.

For this situation, leave a small gap between the panel and the ceiling. If you use wide enough slats, insulation or sound insulation can be placed between the wall and the plastic panels.

Don't forget that this process applies not only to the walls, but also to the ceilings of your room.

A few tips that may make your work much easier:

Now you can be sure that the fastening of plastic wall panels is great choice for quick and low-cost repairs indoors, especially since it’s quite easy.

Dimensions of plastic panels

This finishing material appeared on construction market relatively recently. Today it is widely used in both internal and external cladding works. These panels are made from PVC - polyvinyl chloride - using the traditional extrusion method.

Properties of PVC panels

What are the dimensions of plastic panels?

The thickness of PVC panels comes in two types: those with a thickness of 5 mm, and those with a thickness of 8-10 mm.

The second type of panels is considered, as a rule, to be single - due to the thickness of moldings of standard sizes created for these parameters.

Panel length standard:

  • a 10cm wide lining has a length of 3 meters,
  • wide panels (20-37 cm) have standard lengths 2.6, as well as 2.7 and 3 meters.

Width of PVC panels:

Where are plastic panels used?

This material is excellent for cladding not only walls, but also ceilings.

A proven installation method - finishing the walls with plastic panels

A big advantage when installing wall panels is that you do not need to pre-level the wall surfaces. It is enough to simply prepare a wooden sheathing (as in the case of plasterboard), and then attach panels to it, which contact each other like a puzzle, inserting into each other (like laminate).

Look how great the wall panels look:

This material is great for the bathroom, being a worthy alternative to ceramic tiles.

Almost in no way inferior to tiles, the panels are still more practical: they are resistant to moisture and temperature changes, can be easily washed from almost any stains, and their installation is many times faster and easier. And their price is much lower than tiles. The most common size of bathroom panels is 270x25 (30) cm. Moreover, the installation of panels in the bathroom can be completed literally in one day.

The sizes of plastic ceiling panels are made from 2.5 to 4 meters in length, and the most popular width sizes are 10, 25 and 50 cm.

The thickness of the ceiling panels also varies - this should definitely be taken into account when choosing profiles for them.

In the photo below you can see how good the ceiling looks, finished with this material:

Ceiling panels are identical in composition to composite materials used in medical equipment and food packaging, which indicates their environmental safety.

Ceiling panels are more flexible than metal slats and more resistant to various deformations. Consisting of large quantity isolated cells, the PVC plastic panel has excellent soundproofing characteristics.

Ceiling panels, protected on top with a layer of varnish, have excellent antiseptic properties (without attracting dust), UV resistance, and good wear resistance.
