We make flower beds from tires with our own hands. How to unscrew a wheel for a flower bed without a disc. Creative ideas for arranging flower beds with car tires. General principles of planting plants How easy it is to turn out a tire for a flower bed

The desire to improve the suburban area, transforming it into an attractive cozy corner for a comfortable stay is quite natural. Favorite by many gardeners, flower arrangements are an invariably popular element of the landscape design of suburban areas. A worthy frame for such compositions is often tire flower beds, which are one of the easiest to create and practical products to use. Of course, you can buy ready-made flowerpots in specialized stores. But the flowerbeds made of tires created with their own hands are not only a beautiful and functional design element that gives the design of the site exclusivity and uniqueness, it is, first of all, the pride of every summer resident.

How to choose the right tire?

It's great when there is a possible choice. Choosing between old tires of a domestic manufacturer and imported products, the preference should be attributed to the latter. Imported used tires have softer and thinner rubber that is much easier to work with. If you choose between "summer" and "winter" tires, then the winter version is more suitable for work.

When deciding to create original flower beds from tires with your own hands, turning old waste tires into street vases of bizarre shapes, it is necessary to prepare the source material in advance and think over its design

In order to make a flower bed from an old tire, it is advisable to choose wheels with maximum tread wear. The worn out tread layer makes the product softer and makes it much easier to turn it inside out.

Tires contaminated with earth and sand must be cleaned. And the point is not even that it is more pleasant to work with a clean product. It's just that when working with dirty tires, the knife and saw blade dull much faster.

Step-by-step manufacturing example

Before you start making a flower bed from a tire, you need to think about how the finished product will look like: a bowl with smooth edges, a flowerpot with a wavy cut line or a flower bed in the form of a large flower bordered with petals or fringe.

The drawing, along the contour of which the cut line will be drawn, is applied to the side of the product

Thinking over the shape of the cut, it is necessary to be guided by the fact that the result should be a construction according to the principle of "pan - lid": a deep lower part and a cut off upper part. Around the entire circumference, the contour is easily applied with a felt-tip pen or chalk.

The edges of the cut, made with wavy lines or decorated in the form of teeth and fringes, look interesting

Stage # 2 - Contour Cutting

Thinking over how to make a flower bed from an old wheel, decorated in the form of a large flower, it is necessary to cut out petals along the edge of the product. The size of each petal should not exceed 10-12 cm. Otherwise, when the tire is turned out in these places, the rubber simply will not bend, and the flower bed will not take an even round shape.

You can use a boot knife to cut the wheel. Well-honed tools will significantly speed up your work

You can make the cutting process easier by using liquid soap to lubricate the knife blade.

It's great if you have a jigsaw on hand. With the help of a jigsaw, it is convenient and quick to perform figure cutting.

Labor mechanization is detailed in the video:

After cutting the tire along the contour, it is necessary to make longitudinal cuts at a distance of 5-10 cm along the grooves of the tread.

Stage # 3 - Inverting the tire

When creating a flower bed on a leg of wheels with your own hands, the first step is to turn the rubber tire inside out. For many craftsmen, this stage of work becomes a real stumbling block. The very process of everting out the rubber is a rather laborious process.

In order to cut the metal cord, it is necessary to make several cuts on the outside with the help of a grinder. Cut through the rubber smoothly. The contact of the disc with the cord can be judged by the bloom formed on the surface of the product and the white smoke emitted. Make the cuts at an equidistant distance of 15-20 cm.

After completing the preparatory work, you can start turning out the tire. Before you start turning out the tire for a flower bed, we would like to tell you one secret: it is enough to turn at least a small piece of the tire inside out, and the work will go “like clockwork”.

The turning out process is well shown in the video:

The flowerbed of old wheels is ready, you can start decorating it.

Registration of the finished product

To create and grow flower beds in black forms is not entirely aesthetically pleasing. Therefore, as soon as the flowerbed has been given the desired shape, you can start decorating it. Until the outer surface of the turned-out flowerpot is covered with a layer of dust, it is advisable to paint it.

Painting is the easiest and most affordable way to decorate a black rubber flower bed

Oil, enamel and nitro paints are excellent for painting rubber products. On a clean rubber surface, the paint lays down in an even layer and lasts for a rather long time. You can also use car paint residues to paint your flower beds. With an aerosol can, work can be done in just a few minutes.

The use of light colors of paints in the design of the flower bed will prevent overheating of the earth inside the container.

The combination of colors looks interesting when the base of the flower bed is decorated in one color, and the cloves or petals in another

Most craftsmen paint the rubber flower bed only from the outside. But still, in order to make the container more attractive, it is advisable to slightly capture the upper part of the inner surface of the product.

In the design of the flower bed, you can give complete freedom of imagination. Glass aquarium stones glued to the flower bed petals will create the illusion of dew drops.

If you want to additionally decorate the flower bed, you can apply an ornament of a different color on top of a single-color layer of paint. But you should not be especially zealous: with the lush growth of flowers, the flowerbed pattern can be completely closed by hanging or creeping plants.

Minimum costs, a little free time - and a chic decoration for arranging a suburban area is ready

Such a flower bed will be a worthy addition to the interior and an element of the landscape design of the summer cottage. It remains only to fill the container with a layer of soil and plant your favorite flowers.

It is always pleasant to make something beautiful and useful out of a junk thing. A vivid example of such creativity is beautiful flower beds made of tires. It is not difficult to build them, but the benefits from them are enormous. But the fantasy of the summer cottages is not limited to this either. From old wheels, which are often just lying on the road and polluting the environment, they make outdoor furniture, sculptures for the garden, and even rebuild small children's towns.

Such a simple and unsightly material at first glance, like old car tires, in fact, as if specially created so that every summer resident could feel like a real artist and decorate his site with real designer flower beds and original author's sculptures. You can cut from tires, without exaggeration, anything. Such crafts, along with those made from plastic bottles, will delight the eyes of the owners and guests of the dacha all year round, and most importantly, they will not require special financial investments.

It is also nice that the idea of making DIY crafts from tires is twofold: on the one hand, we dispose of a wheel that polluted the environment, and on the other, we get an original garden decoration or a flower bed.

Crafts from rubber used tires amaze with the variety and how rich the imagination of their authors is. Here are the most common ones:

In the photo - flower beds made of tires

Small flower bed. The easiest way to make flower beds from tires is to leave the tire as it is, just paint it brightly and fill it with earth. Nothing complicated. Even a weak woman or child can cope with this, and such a flower garden will look great.

This photo shows cups made from old wheels.

Flower beds made of old tires in the form of various objects. Making them harder. The tire is cut into two unequal parts and the larger one is turned inside out. It is worth noting that the edges of the tires can be made in various shapes, it's all about imagination and sleight of hand. In this technique, flower beds are made in the form of a mug, flower, vase. The huge rubber tire cup looks very funny. And some craftsmen, thus, build a whole tea set on their site.

Turtle from old wheels

Flowerbeds and sculptures in the form of animals and fairy-tale characters. A funny tire frog, a kind gnome, a mysterious unicorn, beautiful swans, a three-headed dragon, a turtle, a luxurious carriage, a huge telephone - it's easier to list what is not made of this available material. The only condition is to think over the composition from the very beginning, so that there are no unpleasant surprises later.

In the photo - multi-tiered flower beds or berries

Multi-tiered flower beds from several tires. The simplest in execution is three-tiered, but the number of parts may be more. Several tires of the same or different sizes are stacked on top of each other or in a checkerboard pattern. A well made of tires looks spectacular, stylized as a real one and equipped with all its inherent attributes: a chain, a shaft with a visor, a bucket. Such a flower garden can also be used as a vertical bed for growing berries and vegetables.

Beds of strawberry tires

A flower bed for strawberries made of tires will take up a minimum of space and give a rich harvest. It is perfect for growing seedlings, herbs, peppers. From such a flower bed, you can make a fence for a raspberry or currant bush, or make several of them and delimit the garden with them into cultural zones. It is worth mentioning that a well made of tires is often made not only decorative, but they mask a drainage pit or septic tank with it.

Experienced craftsmen and craftswomen know many secrets that help them create garden sculptures and flower beds from tires with their own hands. They understand best of all how to make unique and inimitable author's crafts out of old rubbish no one needs. Here are just a few of these secrets:

  • Imported tires are best suited for work, since the rubber on them is softer and easier to cut. But in the absence of them, domestic products will also fit. In principle, they are also quite easy to process and allow you to give crafts from them different shapes.
  • Tires intended for use on winter roads are more pliable, easier to cut and easier to handle than those used in summer.
  • The longer the tire has been used and the more it is worn out, the thinner, softer and the easier it will be to work with it: cut and turn out.
  • Before you start creating crafts, the material must be prepared: thoroughly cleaned of dirt, and degreased before painting.
  • Use a sharp knife with a thin butt to cut car tires. You can check how well it is sharpened by running the blade along the notebook sheet, holding it in weight. If the knife does not cut or tear the paper, it is not sharp enough.
  • It is more convenient to cut a car tire for garden crafts if you periodically lubricate the knife with machine oil. This will make it easier to fit into the rubber. Used oil will do as well.
  • When you need to cut out some curly elements, markings are applied to the bus. It will help you achieve a more accurate and accurate result. It is most convenient to apply it with ordinary white chalk, as a last resort, with a marker.
  • The durability of the craft depends on what paint to paint the rubber with. For old wheel tires, both car paints and any street paints are suitable.
  • It is recommended to prime the surface of the tire before painting it. A primer with the addition of a small amount of PVA will increase the strength of the coating and reduce paint consumption.
  • Paints in aerosol cans accelerate the coloring process up to 20-30 minutes, and the painted layer itself is made more uniform.
  • Decorative trim can be made from scrap materials. For example, glue the surface with pebbles, bottle shards, or lay out pictures of colored plastic bottle caps.

It is better to paint a flower bed from a tire not only from the outside, but also from the inside. This will make them look more aesthetically pleasing, and the black rubber will not show through from the inside.

Of course, each master has his own secrets, and it is unrealistic to list them all. And when you take up this fascinating business - tire sculpture, they will certainly appear with you.

Several workshops on making crafts from old tires

As mentioned above, tire crafts are diverse. Their appearance and purpose are limited only by the imagination of the master. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the basic models. After familiarizing yourself with them, you will learn how to make a flower bed out of tires with your own hands and you will be able to create original, unlike other and useful garden accessories yourself.

Simple flower bed

A small flower bed, made like a chamomile from one tire, is the simplest basic model. You can make several such flower beds, arrange them hardly and decorate the approach to the house. They are sometimes placed on paved or tiled areas.

We need:

  1. One old tire.
  2. Sharp knife.
  3. Marker or chalk.

Mark the place of the cut with a marker. We will cut the tire along them, from thickening to thickening.

Before cutting the tires, make sure there are no metal cords in them that could ruin the knife. They are usually inserted into truck tires.

We cut the tire around the entire circumference with straight zigzag petals of any shape of your choice (triangular, oval, semicircular).

We turn over the tire and work with its reverse side. Leading the knife along the thickening, cut out a circle from the back of the tire.

Then, along the entire circumference inside the tire, approximately every 20-25 cm, we make transverse cuts from the cut edge to the bend (end of the tread).

After that, the tire must be turned out. The flower bed is ready. It remains only to paint it, giving it a more attractive look, fill it with earth and plant plants.

Garden flowerpot from an old wheel

You can make a beautiful garden vase from an old wheel in a short time.
These flowerpots look best in a pair in front of the house, on opposite sides of the door or porch. Consider step by step a master class on their manufacture.

We need:

  1. Disc tire.
  2. Sharp knife.
  3. Chalk or marker.

With chalk or a marker, mark a zigzag line along the entire front circumference of the tire, along which we will begin to cut. Thanks to her, the flowerpot will look like a large flower with many petals.

We cut the tire along the marked line with a sharp knife. To facilitate the process, the knife is periodically dipped in machine oil (used oil is also suitable).

After the wheel is cut, we check if the cut sections are not left until the end, and proceed to turning it inside out. It is better to do this together with an assistant, slowly, in parts.

After we managed to turn out the tire for the future flower bed, it turned out that there is a camera in the wheel. It must be cut and thrown away.

The pot is ready. His bowl was made from the main part of the wheel. It is not necessary to remove the disc from the tire. It serves as an elevation and stand for the vase, and the remains of the tire at its base as an additional support.

We just have to clean, degrease and decide how beautifully to paint our new garden vase. When you put the earth in the bowl, do not forget to put a gasket on its bottom so that the earth does not spill out and make several holes in it to drain the water.

Old tire swan

The most popular tire garden sculptures are swans. They are usually placed near an artificial pond, which gives the site a stunning look. You can plant grass in the bird itself, then you get the impression that it looks out from behind the vegetation. Detailed step-by-step instructions with a photo will help to make it.

We need:

  1. Sharp knife.
  2. An electric drill for making holes for entering the rubber of a knife.
  3. Grinder or file.
  4. Electric jigsaw.
  5. Chalk or marker (marker is still better).
  6. Wire 5-6 mm in diameter (rigid, to shape the neck of a "swan").
  7. Plastic clamps (to shape the head).
  8. Roulette.
  9. Gloves.

According to the scheme, we mark on the tire surface the contours of the future swan according to the following video, in which the author uses dimensions in inches, calling them in the international measurement system - inc. Inch (1inch) = 2.54cm.

How beautiful and neat our sculpture will turn out depends on the accuracy of the marking.

Let's start cutting. At the initial section, we drill 3-4 holes at a distance of 3-5 cm with a drill and cut the tire between them with a knife. Insert a jigsaw into the resulting cut and begin to cut the swan.

After all the contours have been cut out, turn the tire out. We try to do this carefully, because careless movements in the thinnest places can tear it.

To make the bird's figure look more neat, smooth all the sections along the contour with a grinder.

To shape the swan's neck, insert a wire into it. To do this, drill holes in the center of the neck and to the end of the body every 20 cm. We put the wire and fix it in the holes with soft staples.

We shape the head. We make longitudinal cuts and holes, as shown in the photo and using the same wire or plastic clamps we give the swan's head a shape.

Our tire swan is ready. It remains to paint it and make a stand.

The swan can be painted white or not painted at all, leaving it black. Make the beak red. Swans look very nice in a pair: black and white.

Soft rubber swans won't stand without a stand. As it, you can simply take any tire and paint it, for example, blue. Thus, it will symbolize the pond. And you can not be lazy and make it curly.

We make a curly stand in the same way. We mark on the tire the contour along which we will cut, cut the tire along it, turn it out and paint.

In a similar technique, you can make any figures from tires: animals, birds, fairy-tale creatures.

But, if you don't want to mess around with complex markings and cutting, you can do it even easier. For example, collect a cute frog from whole tires.

In the photo - a flower bed in the form of a frog

A tire frog is very simple to do. From one or more tires, the body and head are assembled, from small wheels, for example from a baby carriage, eyes, and from rubber scraps of feet.

Flower bed chamomile

A decoration that is easier to do than this flower bed is hard to come up with. Despite the fact that it will need several car tires, it can be assembled in just 15-20 minutes, it looks cute, neat and will never be superfluous.

We need:

  1. Three old tires of the same size.
  2. Sharp knife or grinder.

All tires, having previously designated the places of the cuts, are cut in half. Find out if the rubber contains metal cords before cutting. The knife will not take them, so use a grinder.

To give the future flower bed aesthetics, you can paint the tires. It is better to do this in advance, immediately after cutting.

To make flower beds, you will need:

  • chalk or marker to mark up the drawing;
  • a sharp knife with a thick blade;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • extension;
  • set of files;
  • any, including waste, machine oil.

Preparation for work

With the help of worn-out car tires, you can make an original flower bed without special costs

First of all, carefully inspect the side surface of the tire. Pay special attention to what is written in small print. You need to find the word "steel" or make sure it's not there.

The presence of this word indicates that the tire is reinforced with steel wire, so you need a fine-toothed metal file.

If there is no inscription, the tire is reinforced with nylon, and to work with it, you need to insert a coarse-toothed file for soft wood into the jigsaw. A coarse-toothed file makes it easier to cut through rubber because you have to make less effort.

Most often, steel wire is used to reinforce truck tires, but you still need to check the tire so as not to blunt the file.

If you have not only a tire, but also a disc for it, you can make two types of flower beds - low and high.

The cutting technology is the same, the difference is in some of the nuances of the marking and the method of "turning out" the tire. Moreover, it is necessary to determine what kind of flower bed you will make before starting the marking.

How to plant and care for club begonia is described in.

Markup

When applying the markup, try to draw even symmetrical lines and do not make the wide part of the flower bed petals already 7 centimeters long. Smaller petals are much more difficult to cut because the rubber is not hard enough for normal jigsaw and file pressure.

Regardless of whether you want to make a low flower bed, low or high, the markings must be divided into three stages:

  • marking a small (inner) circle;
  • marking a large (outer circle);
  • marking of teeth (petals).

A small circle is marked 3–5 cm from the edge of the rim, if it is not there, then 5–7 cm from the bead ring (place for installing the disc). This is necessary to avoid damaging the file on the disc and to remove thin and overly flexible areas of the tire.

To draw an even circle, take the chalk with your thumb and forefinger, press your little finger against the disc (if you are marking a tire without a disc, then grab the side ring of the wheel with your little finger) and guide the chalk or marker along the wheel. This will allow you to use the disc or ring as a guide, which will help you draw a neat and even inner circle.

We mark the bus like this

If the size of the petals is less than 7 cm, then the large circle is marked as described above. For taller petals, mark as above, but hold onto the top of the tire with your little finger, or use a tape measure to mark around the outer circle. The distance between the marks is 5-15 cm. After making the marks, draw a circle along them.

The petals can be marked both by eye and with a tape measure. The shape of the petals is limited only by your imagination. It can be triangles, waves, sinusoids, oblique teeth, squares, slots, or whatever you come up with.

Tire cutting

Before starting cutting, think again what kind of flower bed you want to see. After you cut the tire, you will not be able to make changes to the design and appearance of the flower bed.

Use a sharp knife to cut the side of the wheel along any line. Then insert the necessary file into the jigsaw and lubricate it with machine oil. Plug the jigsaw into a power outlet through the extension, then insert the file into the slot in the tire. Turn on the jigsaw and start cutting the wheel.

Observe safety precautions when cutting a tire

Keep in mind that cutting a tire is a difficult and time-consuming task that requires compliance with safety rules:

  1. Avoid keeping the tire on the cutting line near the jigsaw with your hand. If the file breaks or jumps out of the slot, you will injure your hand. While cutting, push the jigsaw forward firmly, but smoothly, without sudden jerks.
  2. If you have enough strength, then instead of a jigsaw, you can cut the tires with a sharp knife with a thick (at least 4 mm) blade. But this cutting method is not applicable for steel-reinforced tires.
  3. Start each cut only after you have lowered the knife into the tire to a depth of 2-3 cm and cut only by moving the knife down. This will help you avoid cuts and more serious injury.

Reversing the tire

After you have cut both sides of the wheel, you need to turn the tire out. This operation requires a lot of strength and dexterity, so it may not work the first time.

If it doesn't work, do not despair, after a while try again or ask someone stronger to turn it inside out.

It is better to ask someone strong enough to turn the tire out.

Do not be afraid to damage the tire when turning it over. Even a car tire is designed to withstand such loads that cannot be created by hand.

As a result, we should get the following blank:

An inverted tire is an almost finished flower bed

Find out, .

We grow, plant and care for stonecrop.

Flower bed painting

If you have a spray gun (spray gun), then it is advisable to paint the inverted tire before installation. After all, with the help of a spray gun, you will not only paint a new flower bed, but also hook on the adjacent soil.

If you only have brushes, then it makes no difference whether to paint before or after installation.

Use nitro enamels or alkyd paints for painting.

Wipe the surface of the turned out tire with a dry, clean cloth to remove dust and rubber chips. Then degrease with white spirit, thinner "646" or acetone. When the liquid is dry, paint with a brush or spray gun.

If you wish, you can not only cover the flower beds with paint of the same color, but also draw pictures or drawings.

The appearance of the flower bed can be anything, it all depends on your imagination and on the design of the site

To ennoble your site with beautiful flower arrangements, it is not at all necessary to buy expensive outdoor flowerpots. You can make a unique frame for flowers of various shades and shapes with your own hands. We decorate the dacha with flower beds made of tires: interesting ideas and options for making flowerpots will help make the garden plot unique and inimitable.

Features and Benefits

By making a flower bed from a tire, you can realize almost any creative idea. Making such a budget option for framing flowers on a site is quite simple - just show a little imagination and make a little effort. Tire beds have a number of advantages:

  • car tires are durable;
  • tires tolerate temperature extremes well;
  • almost any paint fits well on the rubber surface;
  • no need to spend money on material: almost everyone has an old tire;
  • improvised items can be used as decor elements.

Due to the fact that rubber is a fairly pliable material, the tire can be given a wide variety of shapes. You can paint the product in absolutely any color. Such a product can be used not only as a decorative element, but also as a functional attribute of the site. For example, small seedlings can be planted in such beds.

Design

You can make a flower garden according to ready-made examples, or using your own original ideas. You can supplement the finished structure with any materials at hand: it all depends on your imagination and skill. The potting process is often not completed after cutting and painting the tire. A product of a complex shape in the form of an intricate figure must be supplemented with decorative elements. When decorating a flower garden, you may need the following materials:

  • decorative and natural stones;
  • construction metal mesh;
  • plastic bottles;
  • remnants of various building materials;
  • colored pieces of glass.

From several flower beds, you can form bright compositions. The combination of multi-level flower beds of various shapes looks more impressive... A popular option is a composition of flower beds in the form of cups and a teapot. To design it, you do not have to turn out the tire and cut patterns on it. It is enough just to assemble several tires of different sizes, form handles from pieces of rubber and paint the finished products.

Unusual

In the children's play area, flower beds in the form of animals or fairy-tale characters will be appropriate. You can make a turtle from a tire and a tread:

  • the protector must be cut into four equal parts;
  • in the tire you need to make 4 cuts for the turtle's paws;
  • pieces of protector are inserted into the holes and fixed with staples.
  • the tail is made from a small piece of rubber, fastened with wire brackets;
  • the turtle's neck can be made from a polymer pipe.
  • a head made of crumpled paper is attached to the neck with tape.
  • all structural elements are painted in appropriate shades.

Other materials can be used to craft the turtle's head, neck, legs and tail. The product can be decorated with additional items (for example, put a small hat on the turtle's head, and glasses on the nose).

Flower

Near the house, flower beds will look good. Before you start making such a flowerpot, you need to decide on the shape of the petals. The petals can be in the shape of a triangle, semicircle, rectangle, or wavy. Sometimes they are narrow at the base and wide at the edges.

On the outer surface of the tire, outline the petals. You can use chalk or a felt-tip pen for marking. Use a shoe knife or jigsaw to cut out the petals. If the rubber is quite dense, and a knife will be used as a cutting tool, it is recommended to periodically dip the blade in soapy water during the cutting process.

Grasping the edges of the cuts, carefully turn the tire inside out. The finished product needs to be painted. Flower-shaped flower beds look more attractive if you use different shades of the color palette when painting.

On the leg

From a one-piece wheel (tires with a disc), you can make a magnificent flowerpot with a leg.

The workflow for creating such a flower bed consists of the following steps:

  • petals of the desired shape are cut out in the tire, reaching the tread with the cutting tool;
  • then the upper and lower parts of the tire are turned out (the disk does not need to be taken out - it will be the leg of the flowerpot);
  • the upper part is painted in saturated colors, the lower one will be a kind of stem if it is painted green.

Swan

One of the most common options for a flower bed of tires is a product in the shape of a swan. Such a flower bed is made in the same way as a flowerpot. The only difference will be in the more complex cutting. You can use the ready-made scheme, which shows the lines of the wings, tail, neck and head of a swan for drawing on the tire.

After applying the markings to the tire, the very shape of the swan is cut out. Next, you need to unscrew the tire and complete the formation of the swan. The beak can be made of rubber or any other convenient material, painted with orange paint and attached to the head with self-tapping screws. Swan eyes can be made from pieces of duct tape.

Usually the figure is painted white, but no one forbids the use of other shades (you can make multi-colored plumage).

See below for a master class on making a swan from tires.

Required tools

To start making a flower bed from tires, you need to prepare the necessary tools. First of all, this is a tool that will be used for cutting rubber (knife, electric jigsaw, grinder). If you decide to use a knife, the blade must be sharpened well. It is worth considering that it is quite problematic to cut dense rubber with a knife. To make your job easier, the blade must be greased with grease before cutting. If the knife will not be used as your primary tool for cutting the tire, it may come in handy for making small cuts.

Using an electric jigsaw as a cutting tool will be the best option. The more powerful the jigsaw, the easier it is to cut the wheel. A good quality steel blade with a reverse tooth is ideal for cutting tires. Cutting a tire with a grinder is much easier than with a knife or jigsaw. The disadvantage of this tool is that the rubber along the edges of the cut will be melted, the cutting procedure will be accompanied by an unpleasant pungent odor.

If for the manufacture of a flowerpot it is necessary to cut the protector, it is better to do this with a grinder.

Then it is worth deciding on the type of paint for the flower bed. Almost any paint fits well on rubber. The following types are mainly used:

  • aerosol;
  • oil-based enamel;
  • nitroenamel;
  • auto enamel.

If necessary, prepare a brush for painting the tire. Gloves will be needed for work, they will protect hands from paint or other possible contamination... You will need chalk, a marker, or soap to draw the line. When making complex figures, some elements will have to be made from scrap materials. To fasten additional parts to the main figure from the tire, you will need staples, self-tapping screws.

How to do it?

Making complex curly flower beds from tires is a laborious process that requires patience and some physical effort. Whatever shape you want to give a flower bed of tires, the procedure for making a flowerpot will always be almost the same. Here is a step-by-step instruction on which you can independently make a curly flower bed from tires:

  • Choosing a tire. So that working with rubber does not cause unnecessary trouble, you need to take tires that can be easily cut off (old, badly worn out, winter thin or imported).
  • Thoroughly clean and dry the tire.
  • We decide on the form. It is necessary to mark the cutting line with chalk or marker. The marks on the tire must be done as carefully as possible in order to facilitate the process of cutting out the figure in the future.
  • Cut out along the drawn line, and then take out the upper part. A high power jigsaw can be used.
  • We turn the tire inside out (you need to grasp the cut edge with your hands, after stepping on the middle of the tire and pulling the rubber towards you with force).
  • We sand the cut edges and process them with gasoline.
  • At the end, the flower bed should be painted, dried well and, if necessary, decorated with additional elements.

View

All flowerpots from tires can be divided into two main types: solid and cut. The simplest option for a flower bed of tires is the tire in its original form. You can refine the appearance of such a flowerpot using paints. Such flower beds can be placed in small groups, or they can be made up of a multi-level structure.

A layered design will look more attractive if you give it a pyramid shape. To do this, you need to take tires of different diameters and install them on top of each other. The difference in tire diameter should be at least 20 cm. Hanging flower beds will be a more interesting solution. A suspended flower garden can be placed along a wall or a blank fence. The shape of such a flower bed can be very diverse.

The inner space of the tire must be filled with soil. A mixture of small stones and sand can be used as drainage. When making a suspended flower bed in the tire, you need to make several small holes so that excess moisture can drain freely. Flower beds in the form of plants, animals or mythical creatures are more laborious, but they look quite impressive.

With the help of a tire and a cutting tool, you can embody any author's idea.

In addition to the division into two main types, there is an additional classification of flowerpots made of tires. The flower beds are divided by size and shape as follows:

  • high;
  • low;
  • single-tiered;
  • multi-tiered;
  • curly;
  • round.

Material

The ease of making a flower bed, as well as its appearance, will depend on the material chosen. When choosing car tires, you need to consider the following features:

  • the process of making a flower bed will be easier from old tires, worn rubber is more pliable;
  • imported tires are thinner than domestic ones and are easier to cut;
  • winter tires are more flexible than summer ones;
  • tires with a metal cord are more difficult to cut;
  • if, when making a flowerpot, it is necessary to turn the rubber inside out, you need to select a tire with the most worn out tread.

A flower bed can be made from rims or solid (rims with tires) car wheels. Such material is used much less often than the usual tires, but flowerpots made of disks look no less attractive. Whatever material you choose for making a flower bed, it must be thoroughly rinsed from dirt. This can be done with a garden hose.

A clean material will facilitate the process of making the flowerpot and will not spoil the cutting tools.

In addition to the basic rules for making a flower bed from tires, it is important to know some of the subtleties of its placement on the site. It is better to place the flower bed in a well-lit and relatively level area. In large areas, multi-tiered structures will look better. Having decided on the location, it is necessary to make a container of boards or other solid material for the base of the flower bed.

It is important to prepare a good soil for flowers. The soil mixture should not be too greasy so that moisture can easily pass to the roots of the plants. It is important not to forget about the drainage layer, which can be made from expanded clay or gravel. To retain moisture in the soil and facilitate the care of plants, the area around the flowerpot should be sprinkled with gravel or sand.

It is better to paint the wheels in light colors: this will avoid overheating of the soil in the summer. Consider the following when painting:

  • Before painting, the tire must be thoroughly cleaned, dried and degreased. You can treat rubber from grease contamination with a solvent, gasoline or acetone.
  • It is desirable to cover the tire with paint in several layers. A thin layer of paint can quickly wear off or crack. It is not worth applying many coats, this will lead to rapid peeling of the paint. It will be optimal to paint the product two or three times.
  • If you want to plant bright flowers in a flower bed, it is better to paint the tire in gentle light colors. In vases of bright colors, it is better to plant light small flowers.
  • It is permissible that the shade of the flowers echoes the color of the flower bed.
  • It is worth painting a flower bed not only from the outside. If you grab the inner edges with paint, the flower bed will look more voluminous.
  • It is not at all necessary to paint the flowerpot in one color; interesting patterns of a different color can be applied to the tire.

To apply the pattern, you can use pre-made cardboard stencils.

Car tires have long been used as flower beds. But the eye is already greasy with numerous wheels, from which flowers grow and the tire, simply covered with earth, does not look like a garden decoration, but like a flower bed that has set on edge near the entrance of the plant. And in fact, it is not very convenient to plant flowers in tires - the side is thick, and the hole is small.

However, with a little effort and spending a little time, you can build an unusual flowerpot from an old tire. Here's how to do it.

We take any tire from a passenger car, better than a foreign one, or modern domestic, old Soviet tires are thicker, more difficult to turn out, and the flowerpots from them turn out to be a little uneven (although, maybe I came across such a tire). It is better to take a tire with a straight tread, and not with a semicircular one. But there is not much difference. Experience has shown that winter tires turn out more easily. I don’t know why, somehow I didn’t analyze it.

Tire cutting

Markup

The first step is to mark the petals. They can be triangular, semicircular, rectangular. I made triangular and semicircular, rectangular somehow did not attract me.

We do triangular ones like this - we apply the corner of a suitable-sized board and outline it with chalk or an awl, move it so that the edge is in contact with the already marked one, outline it again and so on in a circle. If the last triangle does not fit, adjust the adjacent ones, up or down. On a made flowerpot, this difference will not be noticeable.

If you plan a little triangular petals, then we markup using a ruler. We put marks in the form of two crosses displaced at an equal distance relative to each other and draw an eight-ray star. The rays will be petals.

We draw semicircular petals, tracing a round object of a suitable diameter, for example a cup or a lid from a saucepan.

Carved tire

Cutting process

First, we cut (pierce) a hole, insert a narrow sharp knife into it and cut the rubber along the markings. The knife is constantly dipped in water, so it is much easier to cut. Probably the most convenient in this case will be a boot knife, but I did it with an ordinary kitchen knife.

Reversing the tire

Take out the cut part and turn the tire inside out. This is the most physically time consuming stage of work. To facilitate it, you need to make cuts when cutting the petals up to the tread itself.

If you are not strong enough, you can cut out the inner part of the tire opposite the petals in a circle with a steel circular cord. But without this cord, the flowerpot may not hold its shape, so I did not.

Beautiful flower beds from car tires

And, almost any man can turn the tire out without cutting the cord. You just need to tinker a little.

The first two tires I crumpled and twisted for about 20 minutes and then they somehow turned themselves out, on the third I understood the pattern, and began to spend no more than 5 minutes on turning. You must first turn out one side, then flatten the tire into a narrow oval, and then the tire can easily turn out completely. It is not necessary to cut the steel cord, it is difficult and the tire will not turn out better because of this.

Painting flowerpots

The vases obtained in this way are washed, dried, degreased (we used white spirit for this) and painted. For coloring, it is better to use white paint and several shades of basic colors, preferably light ones (this is so that when they are mixed, too dark shades do not turn out). A little paint is poured into any suitable glass. For example, from yogurt, sour cream, or a cut off bottom from a plastic bottle.

Add color and stir well. Other colors are obtained by mixing two or three colors. There is full scope for your imagination. But don't get too carried away, remember the principles of color mixing or look about it on the Internet. Otherwise, you can get only a gray color of different shades.

Such flower beds will look much nicer on your site than ordinary car wheels. Now it remains to fill them with earth, and plant flowers. And do not forget to water more often, because the soil dries much faster in tires.

These are the simplest options available to anyone. Human imagination can suggest other unusual options for creating flower beds from simple used tires.

How to paint rubber and rubber products

Over time, any rubber product, be it your favorite rubber boots or a car tire, loses its original appearance, its elastic properties deteriorate, and cracks appear. To prevent damage and other mechanical effects of the environment, isolate the rubber surface from contact with water, as well as extend its service life, you can use a solution such as painting.

Paints are most often used for finishing rubber. KCH-136 and Resel +... Before deciding which paint to choose to paint the rubber, let's take a look at their individual qualities.

Application and properties of paint KCH-136

A distinctive feature of the product is the components of natural rubber in combination with a white pigment and a binder made of polymers that are part of the paint. As a thinner, a universal white spirit solvent suitable for any paints is usually chosen.

One of the advantages of this paint is its thixotropy. This property is due to the absolute smoothness of the surface after complete drying, which means that no traces of a brush or roller will be noticeable on the rubber. Even the possibility of smudges is excluded. There is also a wide range of temperatures at which painting is allowed: from -20 to +30 degrees Celsius, which is very convenient for its use. Moreover, the paint agent perfectly tolerates any prolonged contact with water, and relatively short contact with fuels and lubricants.

Other properties of paint KCH-136:

reflection of almost everything falling on the painted surface, black paint;

the time for complete drying of each of the layers of paint comes after 4 hours;

for more effective protection of rubber, painting in two layers is necessary;

the service life of the painted surface will be up to 4 years;

material consumption per square meter when using rollers or brushes - no more than 120 mg; if the work is carried out with a spray gun, then the consumption does not exceed 170 mg;

the viscosity of the paint during direct painting is 50-130 seconds.

Application and properties of RESEL + paint

Unlike the above-described KCH-136, Resel + paint consists of acrylic resin and latex. The manufacturers of this product recommend using it for painting garages, garden paths and other outdoor surfaces, guided by a very useful paint quality: an extremely high level of durability. After drying, it is a matte film that completely protects, in our case, rubber, from moisture.

A very important property of Resel + paint in relation to human health is that it is water-based. Due to this, the unpleasant odor and toxicity usually accompanying paints are practically completely absent here both during application to the surface and during further use. This "usefulness" compensates for the limitation of temperatures at which work with paint is allowed - at the time of coating, the ambient temperature must be at least +5 degrees Celsius.

The color palette of the paint is not limited: you can choose any color, you just need to add the necessary pigment to the paint. The pigment is also water-based, which is great for use with similar paints. However, when working with any pigment, do not forget that even a small change in the amount of pigment can lead to the fact that the surfaces after painting will have a different shade. Therefore, it is important to emphasize that it is necessary to give the desired color to the entire volume of the working surface at once.

Also, Resel + paint has such advantages as:

  • a very fast time during which the paint dries - just an hour at room temperature, complete drying and the surface gaining maximum strength is achieved in a day;
  • low price, not “affordable”: no more than two hundred rubles per kilogram;
  • the paint can be frozen up to five times without damage to its properties;
  • the painted surface is fireproof, resistant to alkalis and combustible materials.

This paint is notable for its versatility: in addition to rubber, it is suitable for any coatings, such as plywood, concrete, steel, drywall and others. It is noted that in order to avoid a poor-quality result, ceramic, metal and plastic surfaces must first be primed before application.

How to properly paint rubber

All work is conventionally divided into two stages. First preparation of materials and the surface itself. The second is the actual painting work.

But to achieve the best effect when painting rubber, there are several simple rules that any uninitiated person can follow. Their observance will ensure reliability, high quality of the work done, and, undoubtedly, will breathe "new life" into the product.

It will be most convenient to express these rules in the form of instructions:

Cleaning

The primary and very important task is to prepare the surface for painting. Rubber is wiped from dust, dirt. If the previous coating remains on it, then it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the rubber under running water with soda. Ordinary washing powder is also suitable for this purpose.

Then the rubber is degreased with a solvent, for example, the same white spirit. Oil stains or diesel fuel are often found on the surface. In these cases, a solvent also helps, but for greater efficiency and it is best to use alcohol.

Preparation

Further, after waiting for the surface to dry completely after degreasing, you can proceed directly to the preparation of the paint itself for rubber. It is diluted with a solvent and mixed very thoroughly. Don't panic if the paint is too thick in your opinion. You need to continue to add a little thinner and stir the paint well until the desired consistency is achieved. At this stage, the required amount of color pigment is added to the Resel + paint. It should be added after the paint has been completely diluted. The pigment is introduced gradually, while you do not need to forget about the constant stirring of the paint.

Painting

And finally, the last stage is rubber painting. When choosing paint KCH-136, two layers will be enough.

How to make a flower bed from a tire with your own hands?

If Resel + paint is used, then to achieve the desired result, they usually stop at three layers. Regardless of the type of paint, before applying a new layer to the rubber, it is necessary to allow the previous one to dry. Rubber coloring is carried out with brushes or rollers, here it is not important and depends on how and who will be comfortable with the work. If the part is small, then it is quite possible to simply dip it into the paint, hold it for a few seconds so that the paint envelops all the minor flaws, then pull it out and let it dry completely. Also, an option for painting is spray guns and the airless spray method is used by professional painters.

There are also markers for tires with special paint that is wear-resistant to water and other road conditions, it is very well suited, for example, to give individuality to your car, they can also conveniently tint shoes if you guess the color. You can buy a similar marker here.

As it turns out, it is not at all difficult to paint rubber with your own hands, so if you need to tidy up any surface consisting of rubber, you can safely go to the store, choose a suitable paint and start work, without spending money on the services of professionals.

The rest of the tire, which ends in a tread (wheel pattern), has a very soft structure. It is along this sidewall that we make cuts along the radius of the tire. The shape of the cuts can be made rectangular, triangular or semicircular. In the end, you just have to turn the resulting "petals" inside out, and you now have a beautiful flower to plant. That's all, the old tire now looks like a real flowerpot. To achieve a special effect, you need to make at least 5-7 of these “flowers”, and paint the outer part with paint.

To make the flower bed look like a complete composition, you can create swans from the same material. Painted in white, they beckon the eyes of passers-by and bring out a huge aesthetic look to your garden. When making swans, the inside of the tire is not cut out. Due to its rigid structure, it will keep the shape of the "back" of the swan being made. Stepping back from 3 to 5 centimeters from the edge of the tire tread, it is necessary to divide into two parts with a sharp knife to 2/3 of the surface of the tire used. We leave the narrower part in place, and the wider part, these will be our "wings", we bend perpendicular to each other. In the finished product, they should be at an angle of 180 degrees to each other and touch the ground. The “neck” and “head” are obtained from the rest of the inner part of the tire rim, delivering the slope and shape we need.
