Stone fences are no less popular. This type of fence does not require any special maintenance after installation.

Note! A fence should not only be aesthetically pleasing, its main quality is strength and durability!

There are options for making decorative fences from plastic, concrete, brick, bottles and more. Below we will take a closer look at each of the existing ones.

Plastic fence

Typically, plastic fencing can be purchased at finished form at the market or in a specialty store. This material has positive technical characteristics, especially thermoplasticity should be highlighted. Plastic fences can be used to fence flower beds, sidewalks, and front gardens. Manufacturers plastic fences use the most different colors and shades

Here are just some of the features and positive characteristics of plastic fencing:

  1. There are strip and sectional fences. They are ideal for marking boundaries garden path. In addition, they will be a wonderful addition to a flower arrangement.
  2. Each section has pegs. Thanks to this, their installation is not difficult. Using light pressure on the fence, the pegs need to be driven completely into the ground. Installation is possible both on a flat and inclined surface.
  3. Thanks to modern developments, such a fence can imitate wattle fence, wooden picket fence, masonry And so on. Typically the section height is 130–200 mm.

Decorative wooden fence

Wood is the most common material used to make decorative fences for flowers and more. The tree does not create disharmony in the garden; it looks at ease. The main advantage is the availability of the material. For the manufacture of decorative hedge You can use different lumber: branches, logs, slats and boards. However, regardless of the type of wood used, it should be carefully treated at the beginning. This is especially true for the part that will be immersed in the ground. For example, this part can be treated with liquid bitumen. The other part of the structure must be impregnated with a special solution, which will prevent rapid rotting and repel insects. Let's look at the features of manufacturing three types of wooden fences:

  1. Boardwalk.
  2. Lattice.

Manufacturing of plank fencing. Let's look at an example of making a board fencing with your own hands measuring 700x700 mm. To do this you need to prepare:

  • four bars 5×5×70 cm,
  • eight boards 2×10×70 cm,
  • 40 wood screws or nails,
  • hammer or screwdriver,
  • level.

The work process looks like this:

  1. Supports are driven into the ground at a distance of 70 cm from each other. Using a level, the vertical is checked, and the height is also adjusted.
  2. Then the board is attached to the top of the block so that its edges do not protrude beyond the edge of the block.
  3. The second crossbar is installed at a distance of 10 cm from the bottom edge of the board.
  4. The entire board fence is installed in this sequence.

Manufacturing of decorative lattice type fencing. This fence is suitable for a small flower bed. It can also be used to fence a recreation area. One section in our case will be 90×63 cm. For manufacturing you need:

  • two bars for support 3×3×95 cm,
  • two bars for the crossbar 2×3×90 cm,
  • twelve slats measuring 1x2x52 cm,
  • four self-tapping screws 3×40 mm and 3×25 mm – 12 pieces.

The whole DIY manufacturing procedure boils down to the following:

  1. The process of assembling sections is carried out on flat surface. It is necessary to retreat 3 cm from the top, and then secure the bars with self-tapping screws.
  2. Step back 50 cm from the place where the upper crossbar is attached, then install the lower beam according to the same principle.
  3. The slats must be secured from left to right with a 3x25 mm self-tapping screw. Departing from the support 15 cm, in top point After fastening the crossbar and support, the first rail is secured. The slats are installed in 15 cm increments.
  4. Each rail is installed in a similar manner from right to left. This creates a diamond-shaped pattern.

To fence your plot or flower bed, you should make the appropriate number of sections.

Note! If you decide to make a decorative fence of a rectangular or square shape, then the consumption building material will increase several times.

When the fence is installed, it should be painted or coated with a protective varnish, which will protect the structure from rotting. If desired, the fence can be painted in several colors, which will make the area more cheerful.

Decorative wattle fence. As for this option, it is done quite quickly. To do this, you will need to get willow, birch or apple branches. It is best to cut them in the fall or spring. The thickness of each branch should be no more than 20 mm. The consumption and volume of branches required will entirely depend on the size of the decorative fence. In addition to the branches, you will need to prepare the following material:

  • wire,
  • wood screws,
  • bars.
Note! Some modernize this idea and use wires or multi-colored hoses instead of willow branches!

So, all the work proceeds in the following sequence:

  1. Vertical supports are installed in half-meter increments.
  2. As a rule, you should weave starting from the first row. Using screws or wire, a vine is attached to the bottom of the support. Then it is stretched horizontally, bending around each subsequent beam/support. So that after a while, when the branches dry out, the structure does not fall apart, it is recommended to fasten each end with wire.

In principle, this is the entire technology for making a decorative fence with your own hands using the weaving method. There are other interesting methods of making fences, more on that later.

Decorative stone fence

In this option, you can use the most cobblestones different forms. The result may be a fence in the style of the Middle Ages. With delicate flowers, the rough texture creates an excellent contrast. Such a fence will last for centuries, and this is without exaggeration. The work plan for making such a fence is quite simple:

  1. The first row of stones is best buried and laid on cement. It is preferable to use flat stones.
  2. The stones are selected to be approximately the same height. This will allow you to construct subsequent rows without less problems.
  3. To make the structure durable, each stone is connected with a cement composition.

Note! During the laying process, the seams should not coincide; it is necessary to lay the stones staggered.

Metal fence

Every metal fence has one main advantage, which is durability. However, metal fences will require additional annual painting, otherwise their appearance will not be pleasing. A metal fence can be purchased ready-made and assembled according to plan. You can think over the layout yourself and, accordingly, make a metal fence yourself. Let's consider brief instructions for the production of a metal section measuring 90×55 cm. To do this, you need to prepare:

  • two fittings Ø1.2 cm 95 cm long for support,
  • two fittings Ø1.2 cm 90 cm long for crossbars,
  • five rods Ø1 cm 39 cm long for a horizontal crossbar,
  • decorative elements: six rods Ø1 cm, length 14.5 cm,
  • welding machine.

Work on the manufacture of a metal decorative fence looks like this:

  1. From the top you retreat 5 cm from the support, after which you weld the cross member.
  2. Next, measure 40 cm from it and mount the lower part of the frame at this distance.
  3. Fix the horizontal bars in 15 cm increments.
  4. Weld the decorative elements in a checkerboard pattern.
  5. Installation of the fence is carried out by pressing the supports into the ground.
Note! The distance from the bottom of the frame to the ground must be at least 10 cm.

Of course, the work on making this type of decorative fence will take you much more time. But such a fence will last much longer.

Decorative concrete fences

It is not uncommon to find massive gray concrete fence, which can hardly be called decorative. However, thanks innovative technologies a concrete fence can be the most different colors and shades, and there may be a pattern on the front part. You can make such a design with your own hands; you just need to purchase or make special molds. The work process is quite simple. Concrete is poured into the matrix for a day. After drying, the section is removed and installed. Everything is simple and consistent. Follow these tips:

  • Each matrix must be lubricated with vegetable oil before pouring concrete.
  • Recommended brand of cement is M250.
  • To prevent the product from turning out dark, total mass there should be less sand, and vice versa.
  • Before painting finished product It is recommended to treat the surface with a deep penetration primer.

Decorative brick fence

The most popular material for arranging flower beds, lawns, and lawns is brick. He has exclusively positive properties. In most cases, it is laid in a diamond shape, resulting in a jagged fence. But this is not the only installation method. You can lay out fences in the shape of an oval or circle.

The second row is laid so that the seams do not match. Each level of brick is secured with cement mortar to ensure the structure is strong. This way you can create a beautiful decorative fence with your own hands.

Oh, how beautiful garden beds are, spreading delicate aromas and pleasing the eye with a riot of color. However, it is not enough to simply dig up a bed and plant seeds; a real flowerbed requires proper fencing that will prevent the soil from crumbling and protect the delicate roots of the plants.

Before you turn garden plot to create a masterpiece of landscape design, decide whether your flowerbed will be temporary or whether you plan to install a fence that will last for more than one year.

Plastic modular fencing, which is sold in gardening departments, is quite attractive in appearance and very diverse. Such “fences” are installed in a matter of minutes and just as quickly removed in the fall or if it is necessary to dig up the soil.

You can also use profiled plastic sheets (PVC or polycarbonate) or cellular polycarbonate as fencing. You should dig a narrow trench around the perimeter of the flowerbed, insert cut plastic into it, fill it and compact the soil.

Joints plastic panels it is advisable to miss the mark construction glue or sealant. Cellular polycarbonate glued with one-component transparent glue.

The disadvantages of such fencing are the high cost of materials and their low resistance to mechanical damage. Plastic fences often warp during watering or precipitation.

If you have accumulated glass containers or plastic bottles, it's time to make a creative flower garden.

Option one - vertical single-tier

This method of arranging a fence is so simple that even a child can handle it.

Step 1. Prepare the container. We wash, remove all stickers, fill each bottle with soil/sand, and screw on the caps.

Step 2. Using a tape measure, measure the length of the bottle. We divide the resulting value in half. This result is the depth of the trench that needs to be dug around the perimeter of the flower bed. The radius of the bottle, accordingly, determines the width of the groove.

Step 3. Turn the first bottle upside down, insert it into the trench, add soil, pour it from a watering can, and tamp it down. We insert the second bottle tightly and repeat the tamping operation. We continue until the entire flowerbed is fenced.

It is important that the “fence” does not wobble!

You don't have to use the same bottles. By alternately inserting one and a half and half liter plastic bottles, you will see how the fence becomes much more interesting.

Step 4. If the bottoms sticking up do not cause joy, you can decorate the fence by painting it with any paint for exterior use. You can also use flowers cut out of plastic and glued to the fence in any desired order as decoration.

Bottle flower beds

Option two - vertical multi-tiered

Stock up on enough fertile soil, shovel, watering can and pre-prepared bottles.

To begin, we dig a groove around the perimeter of the outer, largest ring of the flower garden. We insert a row of bottles, add soil to the level of the bottle bottoms.

We place the second ring inside the first. The second tier will rise above the first. Carefully dig a new ditch, insert bottles and add soil to the center.

Narrow rings can be tied with wire around the perimeter to strengthen the walls of the fence.

It is not recommended to make an excessively wide multi-tiered flower bed, as it will be inconvenient to plant plants in the central rings.

Multi-tiered flower beds resemble a wedding cake. Plant low-growing flowers in them and enjoy the beauty of the garden.

Option three - horizontal

Step one. Let's prepare sufficient quantity clean empty glass bottles and cut iron barrel across in two. The bottom can be left, having made several drainage holes in it, or cut off completely, which is more preferable.

Step two. Cooking cement-sand mortar. In a bucket, mix cement with sand and water so that the solution is thick enough and does not spread.

Step three. We put the barrel in the place where the flower garden will be located in the future. Using a trowel, we place a small pile of solution on the outer wall of the barrel, into which we immediately insert the bottle, pressing its neck against the iron. We apply a new pile of solution to the wall and insert the second bottle as close as possible. We continue until the barrel is completely framed by the first row of bottles.

Step four. We lay out the second row in the same way, placing the bottles on the first row in a checkerboard pattern. We continue until the barrel turns into a stylish flowerpot. While the cement dries (about two weeks), it is better to cover the structure with polyethylene. This way the hardened solution will be much stronger, and the risk of cracking will be greatly reduced.

Step five. If the flowerpot has a bottom, then fill its bottom with crushed stone, broken brick or other drainage. If you cut off the bottom of the barrel, you can immediately fill it with soil and plant flower seeds. It is recommended to decorate the upper part of this unusual fence with beautiful colored pebbles, shells, cones, or hide a noticeable strip of cement with moss.

Even if you and your friends are not car owners and don’t store old tires in your garage, auto repair shops will happily sell you several suitable used tires for pennies.

How to make a flower bed - flower

Tires can be dug into the ground vertically, subsequently painted in different colors, carved into unusual animal figures or cut top part in the form of petals. If you are lucky enough to become the owner of a tire from a tractor or KAMAZ, then it makes sense to place it horizontally, filling it with soil and breaking up a flower bed.

If you get several tires different diameters, build a multi-tiered fence for a flower bed, simply arranging tires like a pyramid. Of course, soil must be filled inside each ring before installing the next, smaller diameter.

Advice! For painting, use only waterproof enamels!

We build fences for flower beds from bricks

If you plan to build a permanent flower garden, then you should take care of a reliable fence, for example, a brick one.

Prepare before construction following materials: bricks, cement-sand mortar, sand, level, tape measure, pegs, cord, shovel and trowel.

Step one. We make markings on the ground, determining the perimeter of the future flower bed.

Step two. According to the markings, we dig a trench about 10 cm deep.

Step three. Fill the sand with a layer of 5 cm and tamp it thoroughly, spilling it with water.

Step four. We lay out the first two rows of bricks without fastening them with cement and leaving a gap of 0.5 cm between the bricks. This is necessary to prevent stagnation of moisture in the soil and rotting of the roots. We check the evenness of the masonry with a level and hit the bricks with a mallet.

Step five. We drive in the pegs and tighten the cord to make laying easier. Lay out the third and subsequent rows without gaps using cement mortar. Immediately scrape off the excess from the wall. If desired, you can undo the joints immediately after laying.

The cement will dry for about a week. During this period, it is not recommended to carry out land work and plant a flower garden. When the cement has set, add a layer of drainage, fertilizer, soil into the flowerbed, and plant the plants.

Advice! If you use bricks of different colors in the construction of the fence, the flowerbed will be much more interesting.

If the flowerbed is small, then the bricks can be laid without mortar at all, filling it with a sand cushion. In this case, it is not necessary to lay the brick flat; a fence made of bricks installed in a sand cushion at an angle looks original.

You can also use instead of bricks natural stones and sand. The stones are laid without constructing a foundation, and the stones themselves are fastened together with mortar. It is advisable to lay it out so that there are minimal gaps between the stones.

Fences for flower beds made of wood

  1. Wattle is a classic of the genre. We drive in pegs or dry branches at equal distances, which we braid with flexible willow twigs. Finally, we pour soil into the fence and plant flowers.

  2. Decorative fence made of boards. We lay out the boards in a row and nail the horizontal fastening lintels. We assemble several of these “panels” of the desired height. We dig several holes in the ground. We take the distance between the pits equal to the width of the panels. Insert into the holes wooden blocks, treated with an antiseptic and covered with bitumen on the bottom, after which we pour the concrete and wait for it to dry, making sure that the columns are strictly vertical.

At the end, all that remains is to nail the board panels to the posts, add soil and paint the fence.

  3. Fence made of bars. Such a fence can be installed both by maintaining the same level of all the bars, and by driving each of them into the ground to a different depth. Don’t forget to treat the posts with an antiseptic so that the flowerbed lasts as long as possible.

Don't be afraid to experiment with your ideas non-standard designs for flower beds and decorating the garden in an original way. Video - DIY fencing for flower beds. Design ideas

The garden has been dug up, the seedlings are ready for planting, but in addition to vegetables and useful crops, I would like to draw attention to the beauty of the garden, namely the fencing of the flower beds. Flowers growing singly or in pairs, descending in garlands with balcony boxes, or arranged into a single composition under the windows of your favorite home, will give joy after working day and allow you to take a break from work. But how to preserve this beauty? How to protect flowers from the ubiquitous lawnmower line, from children who are always running somewhere, from dogs who strive to lie down on them? Let's look at a few examples of making a fence using available materials and a minimum number of tools.

Natural stone border

Stone is not an enemy to plants. Many people know that sculptures created from durable granite, centuries later, brought today beautiful faces of ancient women and muscular torsos of men. Frozen in stone, they still amaze with their beauty.

And why not use this durable material to decorate your favorite petunias, lupins, cosmos, and marigolds. Granite and marble, of course, are not the cheapest option, but you can resort to the help of improvised representatives of the stone world, such as cobblestones, which can be found almost everywhere. Having made a considerable reserve, you can cover a fairly large one, thereby protecting it from lawn mowers and other cutting tools.

Options for the shapes of a natural stone fence depend only on the author’s imagination and quantity source material. The advantage of this fence is its durability, but the disadvantage is its small height and, over time, natural subsidence deep into the soil.

Flower garden fence made of wooden pegs

I'm tired of the old baseboard, why throw it away? Miniature, up to 20 centimeters, wooden fences They look very unusual and pleasant, protecting medium-height plants. The construction of such a fence will take several hours and a couple of meters of old plinth.

  1. First of all, you need to decide on the height, mark it on the base, and saw off the pegs that will make up the fence.
  2. To make it easier to insert such blanks into the ground, it is advisable to make an acute angle at one edge and leave the top straight.
  3. The pegs are either dug in or driven into the ground 5 - 10 cm for greater strength. Thus, the workpiece is a peg 30-35 cm long.

The advantage of such a fence is its original shape. The disadvantages include the difficulty of setting a straight line, but using a level, you can achieve greater accuracy.

Fencing made from glass bottles - simple and affordable

Glass is not a new material, much less expensive. After all, you probably have a bottle of beer, champagne, Coca-Cola or lemonade next to the trash can in your house. They will serve as an excellent basis for a decorative fence. All you need to do is collect required amount glass bottles. For an average sized flower bed you will need approximately 20 -30 pieces. Behind winter period It will not be difficult to collect such an amount.

The construction technology is extremely simple; after digging a small hole, you need to stick a glass bottle with the neck down and dig it in for greater strength. Keep it straight horizontal line A regular building level will help.

Fences made from glass bottles are durable and look great next to low plants.

Considering possible ways improvement of a flower bed, every owner is looking for the simplest and affordable option. This is easier than creating a fence from stone chips, wood or glass bottles. Let's look at a few more options for decorating floral splendor:

Wooden rods and tree branches as a decorative fence

Twigs and branches - for the fire or for work? It couldn’t be easier to build original barriers from the branches of an old tree that fell under an axe! Naturally, branches are taken as a basis, but their selection is very important.

To decorate a flower bed, it is advisable to use straight or slightly curved rods. Branches that have knots or shoots are not suitable for work, since when green spaces grow, the stems will hang and cling to them. It is advisable to clear straight branches of bark and dry them. The ideal option is also to impregnate them with antifungal agents, but this is not necessary.

The construction of such a fence is carried out as follows:

  1. Straight base stakes are driven into the ground at a distance of 10-15 cm, and twigs or branches are laid between them;
  2. Fastening, for greater stability, is carried out with twine or fishing line. The height of the structure depends on the number of rows placed in this way.

The advantages of the design are simplicity of execution and naturalness appearance. The disadvantages include low durability, generally from 2 to 3 years, and the possibility of bending under the influence of weather conditions.

Another option for wicker fences is a vine fence. It looks very aesthetically pleasing. The method is similar to building from branches and twigs, only due to the length of the main material in the process of laying out the rows, the main support pegs are intertwined.
