For example, using a table similar to a bar counter, you can successfully divide the space of the room. At the same time, it will also fulfill its intended purpose. You can get acquainted with many similar ideas by looking at the photo of the kitchen table in any catalogue.

The type and purpose of the table depends solely on the wishes and needs of the owner. Today there is a huge range of furniture on sale from which you can choose the appropriate option.

But if you want to save money or want to be original, you can make the furniture yourself. Therefore, let’s look at what and how you can make a kitchen table with your own hands.

Types of kitchen tables

If you decide to make a table yourself, you must first carry out preparatory work. Preparatory stage involves choosing the style, shape, and size of the future product. It is also necessary to calculate and prepare the location for its installation. If the table is built-in, consider mounting options.

There are many types of tables, for example the following:

  • classic;
  • corner;
  • transformers;
  • retractable;
  • folding

Tables can be made into cabinets or drawers. When choosing the type and size of a table, you should focus primarily on the size of the kitchen, the purpose of the future product, as well as the style in which the room is being furnished.

In a small kitchen, it would be appropriate to use a folding, corner, or bar table. Any ideas on how to make a kitchen table are welcome. Thanks to this solution, a significant amount of space is saved.

To save space and ensure the functionality of furniture, it is recommended to use transforming tables. Small table, which expands into a large dinner table, performs two tasks at once.

A great idea to save space in the kitchen are tables that slide out from kitchen set. A bar counter option is suitable as a division of space in a large kitchen or studio apartment.

Material selection

For the manufacture of classic version dining table is ideal natural wood(oak, walnut). Inexperienced craftsmen are advised to choose pine boards, as they are easier to process. Such furniture will add luxury and elegance to the interior. But it is worth remembering that wooden products require special care.

The most popular material for making furniture is chipboard. Its main advantage is affordable price. But when purchasing it from an unverified manufacturer, you cannot be sure of the safety of the material.

MDF can be considered a more reliable and safe material in this category. You can also purchase special furniture panels.

Metal can be used for the kitchen table, it is better to choose stainless steel. Metal furniture differs in durability. But such a product will cost a lot, and you will also need to use tablecloths.

Making a wooden table

Before you begin, prepare a drawing of the kitchen table and the necessary tools. It is better to purchase the legs ready-made. To make a tabletop with a width of 80 cm, you need dry boards 1 meter 20 centimeters long.

Each board is sanded so that the edges are perfectly smooth and there are no voids at the joint. Connect the prepared boards with dowels. Place them in opposite directions to avoid deformation.

According to the instructions on how to make a kitchen table, you need to make holes at the end of each board, the distance between which should be no more than 15 centimeters.

Attach the table legs to the base using screws. Make holes for attaching the tabletop in each longitudinal board. The tabletop can be attached to the base after twelve hours, when the glue has dried. The finished table needs to be painted or its surface varnished.

Note!

One of the simplest types of furniture that you can make yourself is a table. For a dacha would be suitable the simplest option. For the kitchen it's worth exploring existing options to make a table suitable for general interior. Below are table options with drawings and manufacturing instructions.

Table dimensions are optimal for the kitchen

Before you start making a kitchen table, you need to decide on its dimensions. There are several factors to consider. The size of the table is directly influenced by the area of the kitchen and the place where it will be located. It should fit harmoniously into the kitchen, be spacious, not interfere with cooking, and fulfill its full function during the meal.

For a person to feel comfortable at the table, his personal space must be at least 70 cm, that is, there should be no one within a radius of 30 cm. For a family of four, a table measuring 90x90 cm or 100x100 cm would be optimal if it can be moved away from the wall or placed in the middle so that everyone has their own side.

If it is impossible to move the table, and the size of the kitchen does not allow installing the table in the middle, you can install a table rectangular shape with a long side of 120 cm, a short side of 70 or 85 cm. Two will sit on the long side, and two, one at a time, on the short sides.

If the size of the kitchen allows, then it is better to install a large dining table with dimensions of side length 160, 180 cm, short side - 90 cm. Such a table will be easy to sit on on ordinary days, and during events with guests it can accommodate 10-12 people.

For small kitchens for entertaining guests, a transforming or sliding table will come to the rescue. Such furniture has inserts with a width of 40 to 50 cm, which are inserted into the middle of the table. There can be up to three inserts; they are usually hidden under the tabletop. Length sliding design can reach 280 cm, folded - 180 cm.

The height of the table depends on the size of the people sitting at it: height and build. They are usually made with a height of 700 mm, but options from 60 to 80 cm are possible. When choosing a table, you need to take into account its location. When the housewife moves around the kitchen, she should not be disturbed by those sitting at the table.

What role do the legs and their number play?

When deciding on the size of the table, you should pay attention to the type and number of legs. There may be different numbers of them:

  • One massive leg is suitable for products not large sizes. More often these are tables for gazebos, children's rooms, small kitchen. For stability, they make a reliable cross-shaped harness that can cope with heavy loads.
  • Two massive legs are used for oval and rectangular tables. They are installed at the optimal distance from each other. Usually such legs are narrow at the top and widen towards the bottom. They are convenient because people sitting at the table do not collide with their legs.
  • The most popular is a rectangular dining table with four legs. This is convenient for a folding version. There is no need to come up with any complex designs or make specific calculations. The table is quite stable and reliable if the length and dimensions of the legs are correctly calculated. They should be the same so that the table does not wobble or warp during use.

The legs for the table can be tightly fastened to the drawers, or they can be detachable. The second option is convenient for storing and transporting the product. In this case, the tabletop must be reliable. True, the design of a table with detachable legs is more complicated.

Choosing a tree - characteristics of the species

Currently there are many building materials, from which you can build a kitchen table. But the most affordable and reliable option is wood. A person with minimal carpentry experience can make a wooden kitchen table with their own hands. It is important to choose the right tree that is suitable for this.

The choice of material for the countertop determines its durability, resistance to mechanical damage and rotting.

Wood varies in density and can be soft, hard or very hard. Softwood countertops may leave scratches and marks, although this depends on how the table is used. Hard rocks are more difficult to process.

Softwoods are often used: spruce, poplar, alder, pine, fir, cedar, juniper, horse chestnut. Hardwoods are: birch, oak, fruit trees (plum, apple, quince), walnut, elm, ash, maple. The hardest varieties include: yew, dogwood, acacia, boxwood, iron (stone) birch.

The best option for the kitchen is oak. It is durable, strong, easy to process, varnished, resistant to rotting and deformation, ideal for wet rooms. Larch has healing properties, but since it has to be treated with protective substances, it releases healing phytoncides to a lesser extent. Juniper is not used because there is little of it left in nature. Horse chestnut is used for landscaping.

It is best to use walnut, pine, oak, wenge for the tabletop, birch for the legs, boxwood and acacia for the dowels. Tabletops can be made from laminated chipboard, plywood, MDF. The ends of these materials are covered with melamine film or special PVC. These materials are less strong and durable, and are not as environmentally friendly as solid wood, but are easy to process and have low cost.

Table models - types and configurations

By design, there are four types of kitchen tables that you can make yourself: regular, folding, sliding and prefabricated.

A regular table can be oval, rectangular or round. This is the simplest option in terms of design, but the technology for its manufacture is not so simple. There are many nuances associated with the ability to use carpentry tools. It is necessary not only to assemble the product correctly, but also to decorate it beautifully. The crucial step is varnishing.

Round tables are suitable for large kitchens and living rooms, they are located in the center of the room. The main problem is that they take up more space. You can’t put them against the wall, because in order to sit at round table, you need free space. Round form The table top makes it possible to vary the number of legs: there can be one, two, three or four. The option with two legs is not suitable, since this design is not stable. Can be installed round table and in a small kitchen, then the countertop should be no more than 90 cm.

For compact kitchens will do a small oval table that can be conveniently placed in a soft Kitchen Area. A more common option is a medium or large table that fits well in the average apartment. At the same time, quite a lot of people can sit behind him. If the dimensions of the room do not allow you to install a large oval table, you can resort to sliding version. When folded, it can even have a round shape.

A transforming table is most often a compact bedside table that can be placed against the wall. They take up no more than 60 cm. The unfolded table can accommodate from 10 to 15 people. To make a transforming table you will need special tools and the ability to use them. Therefore, it is difficult to make it yourself.

The most simple option homemade table is a table-book. It is easier to make it from laminated chipboard, the sawing of which can be ordered at a special factory. You can assemble a table yourself from ready-made parts. The tabletop parts are attached using hinges. You can use wood as the manufacturing material, but this will complicate the process.

The sliding version is also easy to manufacture. A special feature of this table is that its dimensions are increased by inserting an additional panel into the middle of the tabletop. To do this, you need to move the two halves of the tabletop apart and insert a panel between them. The parts are connected using wooden tongues. Sliding mechanisms may have different designs. Older models did not have roller guides or full rollback, so you had to make an effort to push the tabletop apart, as the wooden parts rubbed against each other.

IN modern models a special mechanism is used to ensure that parts roll out without damage wooden surfaces. The simplest version of the mechanism is two metal guides, which can be used as furniture slides for drawers. Additional sections are folded and stored under the tabletop. To fix them, you can make special fasteners.

In factory sliding tables, additional sections connected by hinges are folded and hidden under the tabletop thanks to a special mechanism. For this purpose, the table is provided with an additional false tabletop, which has a hole in the middle.

A folding table is a tabletop with a pair of folding legs, which is attached with hinges to a wall or furniture. The greatest difficulty is in making the folding legs. Although there is ready-made options such legs, which can be purchased in stores selling furniture fittings.

Organization of the workplace - selection of materials and tools

For carpentry work, you need to choose a special room, since a lot of dust and debris is generated during work. Wood requires treatment with special protective substances that emit harmful fumes, so the room should be well ventilated, it is better to organize a forced operation. You can work in a garage, but the presence of sawdust and dust is not in the best possible way will affect the car. The best option- barn. If it doesn’t exist, then you can build it - in economic activity it will come in handy later.

Having found a room, you need to prepare the necessary carpentry tool and related materials:

  • plane;
  • hacksaw;
  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • fastening tool;
  • carpenter's hammer;
  • mallet;
  • chisel;
  • bit;
  • milling machine;
  • grinding machine;
  • sandpaper;
  • paint brush;
  • wooden boards;
  • corners;

In addition to carpentry tools, it is necessary to prepare measuring instruments: a ruler, a square, a pencil or marker, and a construction tape.

To produce a tabletop you need to prepare furniture board thickness from 4 to 5 cm, width from 60 to 80 cm. The length is selected based on personal preference, usually it is from 120 to 140 cm. If a solid slab for the countertop could not be found, it can be replaced with a set of boards. The boards need to be glued together or connected in another way.

For the legs you need to prepare a square beam. The most suitable timber measures 60x60 cm or 70x70 cm. You can purchase ready-made shaped legs in specialized stores. To add rigidity to the structure, you need to purchase a beam with a cross-section of 40x40 cm and a length equal to the size of the tabletop around the perimeter.

You can protect wood from rotting for its entire service life by treating it with a water-polymer emulsion (WPE). The parts need to be processed twice with a break of 3-5 days. After treatment with VPE, even birch plywood does not delaminate and becomes suitable for front panels.

Acrylic varnishes are replacing nitrocellulose varnishes for furniture. water based, which are safer to use and have best characteristics. This also applies to glue. PVA is gradually replacing wood glue and BF-2. True, it must be applied to both touching sides and left connected under pressure for 1-3 days before sawing, but for use at home this is acceptable.

Furniture pieces can be protected in advance and tinted with stain or painted with special paints with a varnish base or non-painting oil and water-based varnish dyes. A starter of varnish and paint is prepared in advance, stored in a tightly closed container, and then added to the varnish until the desired tone is obtained. Mix colored varnishes on oil paints and NC according to the rules for mixing paints for painting. Acrylic paints can be mixed without restrictions.

Start of work - drawings, preparation of parts

Before you start making a dining table with your own hands, you need to carefully consider what it will be like: shape, size, design, technological solutions. At the design stage it is determined appearance table and its degree of convenience. It should fit harmoniously into kitchen space, not to interfere with the movement of people, to fully perform its main function - accommodating people for meals.

Before making a table, you need to draw a sketch and create a diagram according to which the components will be assembled. You can use ready-made options, choose the most suitable one and be guided by it. But if you want to show your imagination, you can create your own individual sketch, make the appropriate calculations and diagrams. It is important to avoid errors in calculations in order to obtain a reliable, durable and stable structure.

Below are ready-made drawings with dimensions.

During the manufacturing process, any wooden structure you need to prepare the details. To do this you need to do the following:

  • Preparing the canvas. It needs to be sanded, cleaned, treated with antiseptics and antipyrines to protect it from moisture, fire and rot.
  • If wood cuts are used for the table, then they must have optimal humidity. They should be reviewed carefully before use. If there are cracks, they must be carefully repaired.
  • The main details of the table: tabletop, legs and stopper are transferred from the sketch to the canvas and then cut out.
  • The parts that are intended for the support legs and slats are made 3 cm shorter. On the legs you need to make horizontal cuts on each side. Processing depends on the type of attachment of the legs to the tabletop.

When all the elements are ready, you can start assembling the table. If more than complex design, then you need to prepare additional parts and mechanisms.

We fasten the legs in pairs using short jumpers. To do this, drill two inclined holes with inside crossbars When drilling, you need to be careful not to damage the legs. We fasten the structure with self-tapping screws, screwing them through the legs and bars. Then we fasten the legs with long jumpers. We also twist the elements using self-tapping screws. It is better to fasten the legs to the tabletop with bolts, having drilled the corresponding holes in advance.

Making the main element of the table - the tabletop

Particular attention should be paid to the main element of the table – the tabletop. It must be reliable and durable. The reinforcing bar should be installed exactly according to the markings, taking into account the location of the legs.

The best option is to buy a ready-made postforming countertop. Manufacturers offer slabs with wide choice textures, sizes and colors. Postforming is a profiled laminated particle board with rounded ribs. The advantages of using such a stove for the kitchen are as follows:

  • High wear resistance, resistance to mechanical damage and high temperatures.
  • The postforming tabletop has a drip tray where dirt collects and is easy to remove. This ensures high hygiene.
  • There is no need to edge the slab, which is a labor-intensive process.
  • Ease of processing. If it is necessary to saw post-forming, it is processed in the same way as wood or chipboard.
  • Thanks to the rounded ribs, mechanical stresses are distributed evenly across the entire tabletop, which is important if the table is made with a load-bearing tabletop.

The use of postforming simplifies and speeds up the production of a table, but solid wood or furniture panel looks more solid.

If you were unable to purchase a ready-made tabletop, you can make a typesetting one yourself. To do this you will need a long jointer and hand cutter. It is better, of course, to carry out processing on a milling and jointing machines. With absence necessary tools, parts can be ordered from a carpentry workshop, providing exact dimensions.

Making a countertop consists of the following steps:

  1. 1. Prepared boards need to be adjusted to fit required size so that they are the same width and length.
  2. 2. Next, lay out the boards on the work surface like brickwork: the middle of each board was at the junction of the previous ones.
  3. 3. When the material has been laid out, you can begin making the tabletop. The mating surfaces should be well processed and polished. Then we glue the rows of boards together using wood glue or PVA and three clamps. You can glue up to 6 rows at a time. Leave the workpieces until completely dry.
  4. 4. Then we remove the unevenness using a plane and sand the surfaces with medium and fine-grained sandpaper. We chamfer and round the corners.

An interesting option for a tabletop decorated with furniture tiles or a solid block. To do this, using manual milling or a chisel, a cavity is made with a depth equal to the thickness of the tile. Along the perimeter of the tabletop you need to leave a side with a height of about 50-10 mm. The tiles are glued onto the prepared surface with glue. To make the structure stronger, a block is attached to the perimeter with self-tapping screws.

Assembling a table from a tabletop, legs and lintels

Below is the assembly simple table for a kitchen with a countertop, the manufacture of which is described above. In addition to the tabletop, you need to make 4 parts for the legs.

In each manufactured element we drill holes into which fastening bolts will be inserted. The holes on the vertical and horizontal parts of the supports must coincide exactly with each other so that they can be bolted together. To make supports, you can use plywood or OSB about 16 cm thick.

To make the structure strong, we install a jumper between the legs; it will prevent them from moving apart. The lintel can be made from the same material from which the tabletop was made. There is no need to fix it at first. This can be done when the table is completely assembled by tightening one screw at each end vertical support. Next, we install the brackets for the legs and additionally fasten the tabletop with bars. For better aesthetics, brackets can also be made from OSB or plywood.

To give the table an external massive look, we mount a frame for covering the tabletop with a frame. To do this, we attach the rail around the perimeter, screwing it with self-tapping screws. Pre-drill holes in the rail at a distance of 30 cm from each other for furniture dowels(chopikov). When the slats are screwed, insert dowels into the holes around the perimeter of the tabletop. We decorate the tabletop around the perimeter with a strip of solid wood, the thickness of which should be about 3 cm. It is placed on the dowels, having previously applied glue to the contacting sides. Next, we turn the finished tabletop over and attach the legs to it, which we fix with bolts.

After complete assembly, all fasteners should be checked. There should be no play anywhere.

The advantage of such a prefabricated structure is that it is easy to disassemble and reassemble. This is convenient when updating the table. Having disassembled the table, you can remove the old coating from each part, sand it and re-varnish or paint it.

Bringing the external beauty of the table - finishing

All wooden parts that will be used to assemble the table must be carefully sanded and polished to ensure a perfectly smooth surface. This makes it possible to emphasize natural beauty and texture. To make a dining table, you need to take high-quality wood that can withstand the load. If the wood has defects, they can be leveled, puttied and decorated with acrylic paint.

When the table is fully assembled, you need to give it a beautiful appearance. This is achieved by covering it with stain and varnish, and the more layers of varnish applied, the more beautiful it will look. wooden product. Varnishes serve additional protection for wooden parts against mechanical damage and premature aging, allowing you to extend the service life of the product.

Paintwork work is carried out in stages. Before applying varnish or paint work surface need to be cleaned of dust and dirt. Then stain or varnish is applied. By adding dyes, the varnish can be given a certain shade. Dry the wood after varnishing at room temperature.

The table can be painted by first treating it with a primer. The choice of color depends on personal preference. It is important that the kitchen table is in harmony with the overall decor. It is better to choose water-based paint; it dries well and is almost odorless.

In order for wooden furniture to last a long time and have a beautiful appearance, it needs to be looked after. Furniture with a polished or varnished surface requires more careful care, as scratches can easily appear on it. Such furniture does not tolerate contact with hot temperatures. For maintenance, universal polishing compounds are used. Tabletops made of chipboard and MDF with a plastic coating can only be washed with detergents.

A dining table made with your own hands can become the pride of the owner, since he puts his soul into making it. In a company sitting at such a table, a sincere and warm atmosphere is created.

WITH wooden table top at minimal financial costs.

The house has been rebuilt and renovations are nearing completion. The kitchen was also ready at that time. The question became about the kitchen table. Looked in stores wooden tables. Normal tables with a wooden tabletop (not chipboard) cost from 3,000 rubles. After looking at the whole thing, I decided to make a table with my own hands.

To make the table I bought:

  1. type-setting wooden furniture panel 60 cm wide and 3 m long (there was no less),
  2. wooden beam 4 x 4 cm,
  3. 4 table legs. (they are sold in furniture stores),
  4. screw nuts for fastening the legs.

It took 1,500 rubles for everything.

The dimensions of our future table are 60 cm by 160 cm (half furniture board), based on the size of the kitchen), so the cost of the table was set at just over 1000 rubles.

Having cut the tabletop to the size of the table, I began sawing the ends of the beam at 45 degrees.

The timber is necessary to give rigidity to the tabletop. We run it around the perimeter of the table from the bottom side. Without a block, the tabletop will sag.

We apply the blanks of the bars to the tabletop and check that everything fits together without gaps.

We attach the beam to the tabletop with screws.

On back side table tops, mark the places where the legs and holes are attached.

We drill holes in the tabletop for screws. Drill diameter - 10 mm. The diameter of the screw nut is 12 mm.
To make screwing the nut easier, you can set the tap stroke to 12mm. The tap pitch is equal to the thread pitch on the socket nut.

We do all this with four legs.

The table is ready and standing on legs. Let's start sanding and varnishing it.

I cleaned the table with sandpaper, first 80-grit, then finer - 150-grit. I made the edges of the table and bars slightly rounded. In some places I worked on some irregularities.

After careful sanding, I began to varnish the table.

Our varnish was matte (we used it earlier to cover the floor). After applying the first layer, let the varnish dry. After drying, the pile rises. We go over it again with fine sandpaper and cover it with a second layer of varnish.

If necessary, after the second layer we also sand it with sandpaper and varnish the table, as I did.

The table is ready!

Instead of metal legs You can also use square beams or ready-made balusters, which are sold ready-made.

Probably when I make another table, I will use balusters. They are different sizes. It is advisable to use balusters with a diameter of more than 70 mm. They are also secured with screws.

The table is one of the main attributes of the kitchen. Today, kitchen tables are made from the most different materials and different in design.

The table can be very small or large and roomy, if the size of the room allows.

Making a kitchen table with your own hands is not difficult; it only requires a little time and desire.

Kitchen table options

Kitchen tables vary in purpose:

  • working kitchen table;
  • bar counter.

Materials from which a kitchen table can be made:

  • tree;
  • plywood, chipboard, chipboard, MDF, OSB;
  • glass;
  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • stone.

Adherents of the classics in the interior prefer wood as the most wear-resistant, durable and beautiful material. Perfect with chrome legs.

Extendable kitchen table

Materials and tools

Required for production sliding table materials:

  • Laminated chipboard (thickness not less than 18 mm);
  • PVC edge 0.4 mm and 2 mm;
  • block 40 x 40 mm, length 710 mm;
  • mechanism for automatically lifting the insert;
  • self-tapping screws, metal corner 30 x 30 mm;
  • dowels 10 mm;
  • varnish or other paint material(to match the laminated chipboard countertop);
  • PVA glue (or wood glue);
  • piano loop – 1 pc.;
  • plywood (thickness not less than 20 mm);
  • guides for synchronous rollout, length 300 mm – 2 pcs.

Note: Instead of a mechanism for synchronously extending the tabletop, you can use simple full rollout guides. If there is a need to install not one, but two or three inserts, then accordingly the mechanism for them needs to be purchased differently.

Tools:
  • pencil, square, meter;
  • jigsaw;
  • iron;
  • screwdriver;
  • medium and fine grit sandpaper;
  • brushes for varnish and glue.

Manufacturing stages

First of all, we outline and cut out everything with an electric jigsaw. necessary details made of plywood and chipboard. The cutting must be precise because all parts of the tabletop must fit tightly together.

The dimensions of the finished table are 900 x 700 mm and 1300 x 700 mm.

Blanks for an extendable table:

  • bars 710 x 40 x 40 mm – 4 pcs.;
  • laminated chipboard tabletop 700 x 450 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • laminated chipboard insert 700 x 400 mm – 1 pc.

Take into account: the insert can be solid or consist of two parts, which are fastened together with piano hinges.

For decorative lining of the mechanism the following are used:
  • side part laminated chipboard table(box) 420 x 120 mm – 4 pcs.;
  • laminated chipboard box end 600 x 120 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • plywood 498 x 120 mm – 4 pcs. and 830 x 120 mm – 2 pcs.

Step 1. After the cut is made, we proceed to processing the legs - bars and plywood. We process them with medium-grain sandpaper and cover them with varnish or any other material. After complete drying (at least 8–10 hours), the surface and especially the edges are treated with fine-grained sandpaper. Apply a second layer of varnish and wait for it to dry completely.

Step 2. PVC edge We glue 2 mm on the outer side parts of the table top - 3 sides of each part of the sliding table top. The top and bottom of the insert are pasted over. All other side parts are covered with a 0.4 mm PVC edge. To paste, sand the side parts, apply an edge and heat the area with an iron through a sheet of paper. As soon as the edge sags a little, it is stuck. Immediately remove the iron and smooth the surface with a soft cloth. We remove the lateral excess part of the edge using a metal ruler.

Step 3. For table top installation sliding mechanism we chose the standard size – 670 mm / 1330 mm. We fold the tabletop, consisting of three parts, front side down. Then, using self-tapping screws, we attach the mechanism to the tabletop. In accordance with the instructions for assembling the mechanism, we attach all the wooden parts to it. For beauty, you can cover the mechanism with a box made of plywood and chipboard.

Step 4. We attach the legs made of bars to the tabletop using metal corners. Before fastening, prepare a 5 mm hole in the center of each leg. We drill the same holes in the table, 5 mm long. We grease one side of the dowels with PVA glue (or any wood glue) and insert them into the holes in the legs. When the glue dries, you can coat the other side with glue and insert the legs into the tabletop, removing excess glue from the surface of the tabletop.

Finishing and decor

A tabletop made of laminated materials does not require additional finishing. Wooden parts The table should be varnished.

Decorating is an excellent solution if you are not satisfied with the appearance of the surface for some reason or, for example, when restoring a kitchen dining table with your own hands.

There are many ways to make a table unique, memorable and elegant, including:

    • Decoration is carried out using rice paper, ordinary multi-layer napkins or other materials that have several paper layers and a pattern. Pieces of paper are placed on a flat, grease-free surface and blotted with decoupage glue (or PVA diluted with water);

    • Drawing using a stencil. Can be used as a stencil various materials: lace, paper, mesh, etc. It is applied to the surface to be decorated and patterns are applied with contrasting color paint using a spray can, brush or roller;

    • Craquelure. Artificial aging table surface. To do this, apply varnish to the surface, then apply it on top, without waiting for it to dry. thin layer egg white or PVA glue. This mixture creates small cracks in the paint on the surface, creating an antique effect;

  • Artistic painting and burning. These decoration methods are used less frequently than others, as they require certain skills.

When choosing a decoration method, you should keep in mind that several layers of paint or varnish can interfere with the normal folding of the tabletop parts. The coating will quickly become damaged and will have to be removed. Therefore, if you absolutely want to decorate your kitchen, you should take into account in advance, at the design and assembly stages, that the thickness of the countertop will increase by a couple of millimeters.

How to make a wooden dining room with your own hands?

The manufacturing technology of any table is based on the following stages - production of individual elements, assembly, final processing of the finished product.

It can be illustrated by the example of a kitchen table of simple, economical design. In this case, you can use chipboard.

How to make the frame and tabletop yourself?

Before you make a dining table with your own hands, you need to make the following elements:

  1. Tabletop. It will require a sheet of chipboard measuring (56-60) x (95-100) cm with a thickness of 14-16 mm. It is best to use a slab with a smooth surface, otherwise the surface must be thoroughly sanded using sandpaper or grinder. The corners of the sheet are rounded with a jigsaw. You can use a plastic jar lid for marking. The rounds are processed with a file and emery cloth along the entire perimeter, giving them a rounded shape.
  2. Frame to strengthen the tabletop. It is made from wooden blocks measuring 25x45 mm (2 bars each 70-72 and 30-32 cm long). Gusset the frame is provided in “half a beam”, i.e. half of the beam is cut at the ends to a length of 25 mm. The bars are joined with their wider side vertically. The joints are coated with carpentry or PVA glue and reinforced with screws.
  3. Side racks. The base of the table is 2 chipboard sheet size (45-48)x75 cm. An oval cutout is made in the lower part, forming the legs. The height of the cutout is 10 cm. You can use a saucepan lid for marking.

Assembly

  1. Marking the center of the tabletop to simplify subsequent work.
  2. A frame is installed at the bottom of the tabletop strictly in the center (based on the markings). Fastening is provided with 3.5x50 mm self-tapping screws in 4-6 places.
  3. The center of the narrow side of the frame is marked and, focusing on it, the sidewalls are fixed. Fastening is done using furniture corners and 3.5x15 mm self-tapping screws.
  4. Installing a spacer element between the sidewalls. It is made from wooden beam 4x4 cm long is 20 mm greater than the distance between the sidewalls. The spacer is fixed at a height of 25-35 cm with 4x65 mm self-tapping screws.

Final processing

A few tips that will extend the life of the table.
