DIY living room table made of wood. We make a picnic table with our own hands: step by step instructions. How to make a round or rectangular wooden table. Making a round table

The table - an integral attribute of every home - can be made of different materials, have a simple and intricate shape and carry different functions, but it is absolutely impossible to do without it at all. Not everyone understands why they need to make a table with their own hands, if such an ordinary item is easy to buy at any furniture store. Indeed, not everyone dares to make furniture with their own hands.

But that daredevil who deliberately gets down to business will certainly enjoy the process and the excellent result of his labors. Some come to this, wanting to save money, especially if something simple is required. Others, obeying a creative impulse, want to have a unique piece of furniture in their home that will enhance their mood and self-esteem. In addition, a do-it-yourself table always has ideal proportions and matches the interior style of your particular home.

Product shape and design

A wooden table is an environmentally friendly, aesthetic and durable product that will successfully fit into both an apartment and a summer cottage. Moreover, there are options for special garden tables. It can be light, portable, or solid and massive, have different models and shapes:

  • Angular;
  • Oval;
  • "Book";
  • Folding;
  • Sliding;
  • Transformer.

Transformers are perhaps the most interesting category of tables. When folded, they are very compact and look like a small bedside table. If you put it against the wall, then it will take no more than half a meter. A table of this shape is indispensable in a limited space, when it is not possible to hold a large dining table for a dozen people. Hinged worktop covers are attached with a hinge system. Transformers are usually rectangular, but there are also round models.

Before getting started, decide what configuration and size you need. Below are general guidelines from professionals:

  • A hand-made table must correspond to the room for which it is created, both in size and style;
  • When creating a street version, it is important to think in advance how many people will use it at one time;
  • A folding table is a great option for hospitable hosts. Such a product will be used assembled for family dinners and will become a godsend during the reception of guests;
  • For a comfortable feast, the place at the table reserved for each guest should be at least 70 cm;
  • The child's model should be designed according to the age and height of the child.

Manufacturing will cost some work and time, but the result will please. After all, a handmade product will be inexpensive and fully consistent with your ideas and desires. If you wish, you can make a whole set of furniture, but this will require special skills and dexterity.

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the table, you should carefully read the drawing so as not to translate the materials in vain.

Tables can be divided into the following structural types:

  • Solid wood;
  • Prefabricated (from terraced, grooved, unedged boards);
  • Glued;
  • Made in the form of a "shield" of lamellas.

Solid wood furniture is elite and has a rather high cost. The rest of the options are simpler and can be used both in pure form and in combination. Glued tabletops made of boards of different types of wood, made with epoxy - this is an adhesive based on resin, look very nice. Natural wood patterns and different textures create an incredible effect. Products made using this technology, very strong and resistant to deformation.

Material selection

The most popular material for tables and other garden furniture is wood. This is easily explained, because wood has a number of significant advantages over other materials, for example, metal or concrete. The tree has such advantages as:

  • Ease of processing;
  • High aesthetics;
  • Resistance to different climatic conditions;
  • High amortization;
  • The possibility of restoration;
  • Ample opportunities in the field of processing and painting;
  • Safety for human health;
  • Low cost of certain categories of wood;
  • The beauty of natural patterns.

Natural wood is a material with a beautiful natural texture, rather inexpensive, environmentally friendly and durable. It is resistant to moisture when specially treated, pliable for carpentry tools, and therefore excellent for making household furniture and utensils.

The appearance of the finished product and its characteristics will depend on the type of material and its preparation, so it is worth starting with the selection of wood. Each type of wood has its own hardness. The most popular tree species can be identified:

  • Spruce, pine and cedar are softwoods. Easy-to-process material, but prone to deformation, drying out and cracking;

  • Oak, beech, larch and birch are hardwoods. Beautiful and noble types of wood. Moisture resistant and durable. Processing oak and other hardwood products will require electrical tools;

  • Superhard materials - yew, hornbeam and acacia - possessing an extremely dense internal structure, are highly durable materials. Requires professional industrial processing.

To make a wooden table, you need an edged board or timber. A table made of croaker will have a brutal look and will perfectly fit into a hunting-style country house. A wide slab can serve as a material for an entire countertop. Another material for creating a countertop is a trunk cut. First, a trunk of the required diameter is selected, then an even cut is made and varnished. With this technology, a large amount of waste is generated.

The durability of the product depends not only on the processing of wood, but also on the choice of wood species. Hard rocks are not always a good choice. In conditions of temperature drop and high humidity, the tree swells and crumbles. The best option for outdoor or country countertops is elastic wood. Characteristics such as hardness and resilience provide resistance to deformation. Spruce, aspen, larch and linden can boast of such properties.

Before starting carpentry work, the tree must be sanded and treated with an antiseptic, and at the end you will need to be varnished. In addition, the stain will give the product a finished look.

Instrument preparation

If you were inspired by new ideas and decided to make a wooden table with your own hands, you will need to prepare the following tools for work:

  • Thicknesser;
  • Saw;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Hacksaw;
  • Jointer;
  • Milling cutter;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Drill;
  • Grinding device;
  • Clamps;
  • Pencil,
  • Roulette,
  • Square.

In order for the work to argue, consider the shape and size of the product, prepare drawings. The size of the product will depend on the area allotted for it, and the average height is 70 cm. Here is a list of materials required for the work:

  • Antiseptic;
  • Sandpaper of varying grain size;
  • Boards;
  • Bar or slab;
  • Paint and stain;
  • Glue.

For a standard family of four, a square table with a side width of one meter is suitable. Size 120 by 90 cm will accommodate both hosts and guests.

Building a drawing

The drawing is a diagram that clearly tells about the sequence of actions, following which the expected result is guaranteed. If a unique design is conceived, then you will have to work on the diagram and drawings yourself. To do this, you can use a computer program, then print the received documents in order to have a clear guide.

Manufacturing of parts

The step-by-step process of making wood countertops can be described as follows:

  • Select the required amount of materials. For a standard width, you will need 6-7 boards 3 cm thick. Only perfectly flat boards processed with a jointer are suitable. Knots are not a hindrance.
  • Subject the tree to antiseptic treatment and dry thoroughly.
  • Lay out the boards in the form of an even rectangle. Align the joints.
  • Attach a block on both sides and cut evenly.

  • Screw the timber to the boards. On the back of the countertop, in the center of the boards on each side, drill a bolt hole 2/3 through the block. Make the recess wider on the bar so that the head of the bolt sinks.
  • Round off the corners.
  • Attach the board diagonally from the bottom with self-tapping screws greased with glue.
  • Sand the surface first with coarse sandpaper, then softer.
  • Cover the product with stain and varnish. The table can be painted if desired.

Homemade solid wood worktop

Tables made of such material have an even and uniform structure, do not have joints or crevices. Another argument in favor of this technology will be resistance to deformation and cracking. To make a table, you will need 4 boards with smoothly rounded edges, having the following parameters - 1x1.5x0.5 m. The work algorithm is as follows:

  • At the ends, at a distance of 10-12 cm, make holes 8-12 mm in size. They are needed for fastening dowels and dowels. The holes in the two side boards are made on one side only.
  • Fold boards correctly before glueing.
  • Sand the boards, coat with glue.
  • Insert the dowels and fasten the boards.
  • Align the ends and make sure each board is in the correct position.
  • Lay the finished worktop on a flat surface and squeeze firmly with a clamp.
  • Leave to dry.

Round table making

To implement the idea of creating a round table with your own hands, you need to have with the following materials:

  • Square timber (width - 100 mm, length 750 mm - 4 pieces;
  • Boards 100 x 20 mm, length 750 mm - 2 pcs;
  • Boards 250 x 40 mm, length 2000 mm - 4 pcs;
  • Boards 100 x 20 mm, length 800 mm - 2 pcs;
  • Boards 100 x 20 mm, length 1600 mm - 2 pcs.

Step-by-step instructions for creating a handmade round table:

  • Fold four long boards tightly together.
  • Draw a circle.
  • Cut along the line with a jigsaw.
  • Make a rectangular frame and fasten the circle with screws.

  • Attach legs to the frame.
  • Check stability, and then disassemble.
  • Sand the wood with sandpaper. First hard, then soft.
  • Cover with stain and varnish.

At first glance, it seems that the most important detail of the table is the table top. However, the legs of the product should not be underestimated either. After all, it is they who decorate the table and give it a certain style. Legs must match the basic style of the model and the required parameters.

The paradox is that the more complicated and pretentious the legs of the table, the less they will last. The most reliable will be simple wooden, stable and lightweight supports. You don't have to make drawings for them. Stages of making table legs:

  • Selection of four bars of equal length (85 cm);
  • Installation of bars in the corners of the table top;
  • Connection on each side with boards or beams: two equal to the length, and two equal to the width;
  • This structure is glued to the table and left to dry.

The table does not always have standard four legs, sometimes craftsmen resort to creating a base from a frame and one or two legs. The glue can be replaced with furniture corners, which are fastened with self-tapping screws, or, for reliability, use both options. You can create an unusual fantasy model by evenly attaching the countertop to the ornate and whimsical tree roots. It will be an amazing piece that only you will have.

Assembly features

Holes are drilled in each element of the product, then the parts are bolted together, which makes the product really strong. You can enhance the effect with fixing with good glue. Self-tapping screws are screwed in from the inside at an acute angle in relation to the board. If the finished product wobbles noticeably, use special straps with anchors. This will help make the structure more reliable and stable.

For the legs, wooden blocks are taken, which must be processed with a plane in the shape of a cone. Carved balusters are also excellent for this, which you can either buy or grind yourself on a lathe. Carrying out the structure with his own hands, a person acquires the skills of working with wood, so if it becomes necessary to repair the product, this will not cause difficulties. You will already have all the necessary arsenal of tools. In addition, you will need wood and tools for the restoration of old wooden products.

Treatment

It is not so difficult to get a good and solid result. The main thing is to comply with all the necessary conditions. After carrying out the main work, the time comes for the final, but no less important stage - the processing of the product with varnish. In order to correctly carry out this operation, observe the following rules:

  • Sand the edges of the countertop by hand;
  • Apply a quality varnish to the entire product. In addition, painting some parts of the table with paint will look very decorative;
  • Flaws in the work are well masked with a putty that matches the color.

The most popular option for decorative finishing of a wooden table is to cover its surface with a transparent or colored varnish, which will emphasize the natural wood pattern and ensure its protection from external factors.

In order for a hand-made product to serve for many years, remaining the pride of the owner, it is recommended to follow simple rules:

  • Avoid direct contact of the product with the open sun and do not leave it outside in the rain;
  • Monitor the cleanliness of the surface;
  • Process with polish;
  • In winter, keep the table indoors so that the varnish does not suffer.

Before assembly, each wooden part must be treated with antipyrine, which will serve as protection against decay, increase moisture resistance and fire resistance.

Exterior decoration and design

The most enjoyable stage of making furniture with your own hands, of course, is the decorative finish, which each craftsman performs in his own way. In order to get an original model, you need to think over the external design of the product. Cuts of medium-sized trunks, decoratively laid out on the table top, will come to your aid. Woodcarving is also a wonderful decoration. Carved legs and table top will add elegance and lightness to the product.

Many people prefer to design a tabletop under glass. This option is suitable if the table will be located indoors. The hand-painted table is unlikely to go unnoticed by guests. Such a product will add a special flavor to any room.

For those who are not good at drawing, the option of transferring the picture through a stencil is suitable. It is, indeed, extremely simple, but there are some nuances: it is recommended to apply the pattern with acrylic paints, since they, when solidified, form a thin film, so they do not spread.

Allow the previous coat to dry before applying a new coat. You can work with both a brush and a roller.

The frame around the edges of the worktop always looks dignified. Masking tape will help to create a perfectly straight line. Cover the finished drawing with varnish. The simplest and most proven option is playing with the color of the boards. Using paint, stain and sandpaper, you can create the effect of aged wood. Products "for noble antiquity" always look spectacular and expensive.

The decoupage technique is just a godsend for creating a decor for a new wooden table or restoring retro furniture. This method consists in attaching a paper picture to the surface of the product using furniture varnish. The choice of pattern is made to the taste of the owner. These can be images of nature and animals, rhythmic patterns, black and white graphics, and even photos from the family archive. Material can be napkins, newspaper clippings, and vintage postcards.

The new table can be easily refined with mosaic tiles. To date, a wide selection is presented in hardware stores. It is advisable to use one set of tiles so that there are no inconsistencies in height and unnecessary relief is not created, which can damage the pattern and make the table inconvenient to use. In addition to the mosaic, you need to purchase glue and grout. Briefly, the process of creating a mosaic countertop can be described as follows:

  • The surface of the countertop is degreased with alcohol;
  • Then it is processed with sandpaper;
  • Start at the outer edges;
  • Secure the elements;

  • Leave to dry for a day;
  • Dilute the grout to the desired consistency;
  • Thoroughly coat the seams;
  • After an hour, remove the rest of the grout;
  • Let the garment rest for two days, then wipe it with a cloth and vegetable oil for shine.

A budget option for mosaic decor would be eggshell table decoration... It is necessary to crush the shell into a medium-sized crumb, then lay it out with tweezers on the surface of the countertop previously greased with PVA glue. Try to keep the gaps between the shells as small as possible. If desired, the shell can be dyed.

Countertops with gold leaf decoration... Potal is a thin sheet of metal alloys that imitates gold. This material can be purchased at art stores. The required pattern is applied with a special glue to the surface of the table, after 15 minutes, cover it with a sheet of gold leaf, gently smoothing it out. Then you need to walk on the surface with a soft brush and admire the result.

The luminous table is an excellent design solution, and it is also quite simple to implement. The finished product is equipped with special lighting - small lamps or a strip with LEDs are built in, providing a variety of lighting options: from simple to colored.

Modern kitchen sets often do not include such an essential item as a dining table, and if it is included in the basic set, it is usually made according to a standard design from cheap pressed wood. Of course, such products are not famous for their original design and durability. Such tables are usually inexpensive, but it is still better to abandon an unsuccessful purchase in favor of a homemade dining table made of wood, which any newcomer to home carpentry can handle.

The physical labor associated with woodwork (sawing, planing) usually gives great pleasure to novice craftsmen, and a successful result will not take long.

It is important that the activity associated with the independent design and assembly of wooden models is a very creative process. Rarely does someone try to completely repeat the model they like from the store. Usually the design of the model is taken as a basis, and the remaining parameters are finalized by the master on his own inspiration. On the veranda or in a country house, utility rooms, it is better to choose transformer designs:

  • Folding,
  • Hiking;
  • Suspended;
  • Garden;
  • Leveled.

Tables for stationary use are made in the same dimensions:

  • Coffee;
  • Massage;
  • Writing
  • For laptop;
  • For a bath.

The assembly of such products is very strong, the parts are held together tightly, there are no hinge joints.

Tables for a summer cottage or terrace usually have a standard rectangular or round shape. However, there are craftsmen who manage to make a rustic-style table in the form of a stump, and a bench in the form of a log, which looks very impressive. This ensemble is easily complemented by log-cut stools in the same style. As you can see, making a wooden table yourself is a simple job.

With strict adherence to the instructions, the correct selection of quality materials and suitable tools, you are guaranteed to get a durable and beautiful table, which fits perfectly in terms of parameters and style into your interior.

One of the essential attributes of human habitation is a table. It should be in the apartment, in the cottage, and in the summer house in the country.

Making a wooden table with your own hands is not such a difficult task as it seems at first glance. A simple structure that is suitable for a summer residence can be assembled by absolutely anyone, even if he first picked up a carpentry tool.

More complex models that will decorate the kitchen or living room will require creativity and certain skills, but this work is doable if you follow certain rules.

Possible options

Despite its simplicity, the table is considered a variable product and, with the right approach, will organically fit into any room. Manufacturers of wooden furniture usually offer the consumer the following types of models:

  • with the correct geometry - rectangular, round, oval;
  • corner - help to save interior space;
  • transformers - multifunctional structures;
  • folding and sliding - allow you to accommodate a large number of guests;
  • "Books" are a common modification of a folding table.

It is noteworthy, but all of the listed options for tables can be made in artisanal conditions, literally from scrap materials.

Regardless of design and shape, a homemade wooden table must meet two requirements. Firstly, to match the interior of the room, if you do not follow this rule, even a beautifully decorated carved tabletop will look unpresentable. Secondly, the width of one seat must be at least 70 cm, otherwise people will experience discomfort.

Otherwise, the width and height are selected individually, depending on personal preferences and the intended use of the table.

Preparatory stage

Even a simple rectangular table with four legs cannot be made without some preparation. Let's figure out what a home craftsman will need in the production process.

Blueprints

This is a prerequisite that will allow you to visually represent the future table, to determine the size and amount of material. Ready-made drawings can be searched on the Internet: many craftsmen willingly share the results of their work with Internet users, detailing each stage of production.

If we are talking about a unique table design, which is planned to be created according to your own project, you cannot do without a drawing. You can draw a future model with a simple pencil on a regular notebook sheet. It is recommended to pay special attention to the following points:

  • external dimensions (length, width, height);
  • fastening the legs to the table top. Round models usually have one support leg located in the center, rectangular structures require 1 support for each corner;
  • mechanisms (relevant for folding options and transforming tables).

It is necessary to carefully consider how all the details of the table will be assembled together, what additional processing of the wood will be required before or after assembly.

Material

It is no secret that wood of different species has different properties and not the entire array is suitable for handicraft processing. Depending on the species, all wood can be conditionally divided into 3 groups.

Soft. This includes almost all conifers (spruce, pine, fir, cedar) and many deciduous (linden, aspen, poplar, alder). Such material is easy to process, but the manufactured table will require additional protective coating, especially if it is supposed to be used outdoors. Coniferous wood is dependent on external factors, prone to deformation and cracking. The exception, perhaps, is larch, which is used in construction wherever possible, including for the manufacture of tables.

Solid. This group includes birch, oak, walnut and fruit trees: plum, pear, apple, apricot. Such a bar, even without impregnation, is resistant to a humid environment and exposure to direct sunlight, but during processing you cannot do without a power tool.

Extra strong. This category includes boxwood, acacia, hornbeam and yew. The material has high consumer properties, but requires professional processing, which is possible only in the shops of industrial enterprises.

Tool

The simplest rough table made of boards can be assembled with your own hands with just a hammer, nails and a hacksaw. But for a more accurate execution, additional tools will be required:

  • electric jigsaw;
  • grinder;
  • screwdriwer set;
  • drill with a set of drills of various diameters;
  • roulette;
  • simple pencil;
  • square.

In addition, it is recommended to pre-treat the wood with special antiseptics, which will make the finished product more durable and resistant to moisture. If you plan to cut a pattern on the legs or sides, then you will need special cutters. A lathe or milling machine for wood will be of great help to the master, but not everyone has such tools.

Homemade tables for a summer residence

The simplest and most practical option for arranging a summer cottage is a table made of wooden pallets. At first glance, unnecessary pallets are a ready-made raw material that practically does not require additional processing, but offers several options for use. For example, from 2 pallets you can make a small hanging table with a wall mount, which can be used as a shelf or for small friendly gatherings.

Such a design is made elementary. One pallet is fixed to the wall with nails or self-tapping screws. The installation height is selected individually. The working part is attached to the fixed base - the tabletop. The elements are articulated with two chains, which will perform a supporting and supporting function. For ease of use, 2 hinges are placed at the junction of the pallets; in addition, you can install a locking mechanism, for example, a hook, which will hold such a table in a closed position.

A more complex option is a pallet coffee table that will look organic on a veranda or terrace. In this case, the pallets are carefully disassembled into their component parts, polished, painted. After that, the boards are hammered into a rectangular tabletop, fixed along the perimeter with vertically arranged elements. The function of the legs is performed by 4 square bars. Such a structure is made in 3-4 hours and is quite suitable for evening tea parties and family vacations.

We use the remains of building materials

Almost on any personal plot there are boards left after the construction of a house or outbuildings. This material is quite suitable for creating a simple rectangular table that can be placed on the veranda or in the garage, used as a dining or utility table.

Here you need to be guided by the following instruction:

  • assembling the frame. To do this, you need 4 boards: 2 long and 2 short. The sides are fastened together with self-tapping screws, forming a regular rectangle. To preserve the geometry, we use a square. At the joints, you can put iron corners, which will give the structure rigidity and reliability;
  • fasten the legs... For these purposes, 4 boards or bars are suitable. The length can be chosen arbitrarily: 80-100 cm. Support stands are installed on the inside of the frame, fastened with nails or self-tapping screws;
  • stiffening rib . An additional wooden crossbar is nailed approximately in the middle of the legs. A cross member is installed on both sides, making the structure more robust and stable. In addition, these crossbars can subsequently be used to install a shelf where you can place dishes or other small items necessary for the household;
  • table top. This is where the remaining boards go, which are best placed across the frame. The material is sawn with a hacksaw along the width of the table, and is attached to the frame with finishing nails.

At the final stage, all surfaces are sanded, primed and varnished. You can paint the table, in which case the tree will last much longer. And if you walk on the boards with a brush for brushing and apply stain on top, you get an antique table.

Table with benches

This option is great for a garden, a structure made of wood is installed permanently, depending on the size chosen, it can comfortably accommodate 8-10 people. A garden table and benches are made from boards separately, then the elements are fastened together with a threaded connection: steel studs.

The manufacturing process begins with the shops. For this, the boards are sawn to size, according to the drawn up drawings. To assemble a bench, you will need:

  • 3 long boards that will fit on the seat;
  • 4 short pieces, cut at the edges at an angle of 45 ° - the length of these elements should not exceed the width of the seat;
  • 4 boards 40-50 cm high - these will be the legs;
  • 1 board is 25-30 cm shorter than the length of the seat - stiffening rib.

note that all the listed elements are duplicated, since there are supposed to be 2 benches for such a table.

The shops are assembled according to the following scheme. A longitudinal stiffener is attached to two short cross members. Legs are installed, which are clamped by the remaining segments. For reliability, short parts are drilled through and, together with the legs, are pulled together with pins.

Seat boards are nailed on top of the frame. It is not necessary to put them close to each other, it is better to leave small gaps.

The ready-made seats are interconnected by four boards 160-180 cm long. Fastening is carried out at the bottom of the legs in such a way that the support posts are clamped by boards on both sides.

After preparing the base, the table is assembled. The table top and sections for the installation of support posts are made according to the principle similar to the benches. The legs themselves are made cruciform, fixed to the longitudinal supports that connect the benches to each other. The result is a comfortable DIY kitchen table that can be used for family gatherings.

Round tables

Despite the specific geometric shape, making a round table with your own hands from wood is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. In particular, if there is a felling of old trees in the courtyard of a multi-storey building or next to a personal plot, you can get an original round tabletop without any extra effort. For this, a cut of a tree made in the thickest part of the trunk is quite suitable. Such a round, 5-7 centimeters thick, is varnished and can become a key table installed in the hallway.

If you are not lucky with the fallen trees, you can create a round tabletop on your own. This will require 4 boards of the following sizes:

  • length - 2000 mm;
  • width - 250 mm;
  • thickness - 40 mm.

The boards are tightly connected to each other (without fastening), a circle of the required diameter is drawn on the surface. After that, the boards are cut with a jigsaw exactly along the marked line. A rectangular or triangular frame is assembled under the legs from bars. The shape is chosen depending on the number of legs. If 3 support posts are assumed, the frame is made in the shape of a triangle. The elements are fastened together with self-tapping screws, the legs are fixed in a similar way. The table top is installed using corners, after assembly, the entire structure is varnished. If you make such a table carefully, then it can be installed in an apartment in the kitchen or in the living room.

An oval table is assembled by a similar principle. The only difference is that on the boards connected to each other, not a circle is drawn, but 2 semi-oval at the ends. The boards are trimmed with a jigsaw along the line. The frame is also made of bars, but has a strictly rectangular shape. Ideally, the frame should be 10-20 cm from the edge of the countertop. Small tables are often used as coffee tables and look especially interesting on curly legs. However, for the manufacture of carved supports, certain knowledge is required, so it is better to order such elements from the furniture industry.

Transforming tables

A do-it-yourself folding table made of wood and capable of changing its original shape is a real masterpiece. Folding structures look equally advantageous in the country and fit into the interior of a city apartment. The simplest option is to make a transformer for a personal plot, and you can easily cope with this task on your own.

To surprise guests and get a comfortable picnic table made of wood, you need to assemble 2 benches with high backs. The seat is made of 3 boards connected by crossbars. There is one nuance here: the edge of the cross member, which is located on the side of the backrest, should protrude 10-15 cm beyond the edges of the seat.

Table legs are made in different lengths. A short support leg is placed on the side of the seat, the long one will serve as the basis for the back. Note that the recommended backrest height should vary between 60-90 cm. The backrest design feature is that it is mounted on a single bolt, which is located in the upper part, and acts as a swivel mechanism. Closer to the seat, a hole is drilled in the rack where the backrest retainer will be inserted.

After completing all the operations, they get 2 benches, on which you can sit quite comfortably, discussing the latest news or watching the sunset. If you raise the backs of these benches and move them closer to each other, you get a table with two rows of seats. Taking into account the width of each backrest, the result is a table top measuring 120-180 cm.

Computer desk

If we are talking about a factory product, a computer desk seems to be a rather complex structure. It has a pull-out keyboard shelf, drawers for storing discs and other items that require experience to make. However, the model of a table made of wood can be significantly simplified, leaving a minimum of parts necessary for working at a computer.

Here you can try to implement this option:

  • steel frame in the form of a welded rectangle made of a professional pipe with 4 support legs. On the one hand, a frame is immediately made for the shelf where the system unit will stand, and two similar elements from the other end;
  • the table top is made of boards or fiberboard sheets cut to size;
  • the shelves are made of a material similar to the countertop.

All elements are connected to each other by a threaded connection or a corner. Of course, such a design is inferior to factory counterparts in external design, but it costs several times cheaper and does its job quite well.

Processing and exterior finishing

In order for a homemade wooden table to have a presentable appearance and retain its properties as long as possible, all parts are impregnated with a water-polymer emulsion before starting assembly. It is better to repeat the treatment 2-3 times with an interval of 5 days. After the installation is completed, the surfaces are carefully sanded, minor imperfections are masked with a putty. Then varnish is applied: it is better to choose acrylic-based compositions that are safe to work with.

To extend the service life, it is recommended to protect wooden tables from strong moisture and direct sunlight. In the garden at the dacha, it is better to install them in a shaded place, and cover them with foil in the rain.

A table is a piece of furniture that you cannot do without in the city or in the country. The table can be placed on the veranda, in the gazebo, or just in a shady place. Behind it you can dine, have a feast or play board games in the fresh air. Inexpensively you can buy only a small plastic table, it is cheaper to make a large wooden table for a summer residence with your own hands. The article will present three options for tables and drawings for their manufacture.

Table dimensions and construction features

The optimal size of the table top for a summer cottage is 80x120 cm. A smaller table will be significantly inferior in functionality, a large table will be too bulky and will be difficult to clean for the winter. The size of the table 80x120 cm will allow you to hold ceremonial feasts with the number of participants from 8 to 10 people.

It is easiest to make a table for a summer residence from boards. Moreover, it is the most accessible and inexpensive material. The advantage of making a table made of wood is that the boards can be cut to the desired size on any building base, and brought to the dacha without any problems, thereby saving on transportation. It should be noted that with a table size of 75x80x120 cm, the longest board will be a 120 cm long tabletop board. A board of this length will fit into almost any car.

There are many varieties of table designs, but by and large the difference is only in the form of legs on which the tabletop rests. Therefore, the legs at the table are the most complex element of the entire structure.

Table top

The table top at the table in the country is made of boards. The thickness of the boards can be from 30 to 50 mm. However, the best option is a 40 mm board.

An important point is the cutting of the boards. With a tabletop length of 120 cm, you need 5.3 boards 150 mm wide, 6.6 boards 120 mm wide and 8 boards 100 mm wide. Considering that the boards are sold with a length of just over 6 m, it is advisable to choose a board with a width of 100 mm for the tabletop.

Choosing a board with a width of 100 mm does not have to adjust or change the dimensions of the table top, which will greatly simplify the work on the table arrangement. In addition, there will be 2 more boards with a length of 120 mm, which can be used for other parts.

If you can't get the board you need, you can make the tabletop not solid, but at intervals. Such a tabletop will look no less interesting. In this case, water that can accumulate on a table with a solid table top will drain through the gaps between the boards.

Straight Legged Table

A table with straight legs is the simplest design of a table for a summer residence. This is a stable, comfortable table that will serve well both indoors and outdoors.

Fig. 1.

Table legs consist of 4 elements, 2 vertical posts and 2 horizontal ones. The upper horizontal post is attached to the table top, the lower one is the support.

Fig. 2.

The design of the legs can be different. For example, instead of resting on the bottom board, you can make the support on vertical posts, and the bottom board can be made for additional strength.

Pay attention in this design, the connection of the boards is performed without additional grooves. This greatly simplifies the assembly of the table. In order for all elements to be well fixed, it is necessary to glue all joints with wood glue. In this case, the boards can be connected with self-tapping screws.

Fig. 3.

  • Collect the legs. To do this, you need to saw the boards according to the drawing. Treat the joints with glue and tighten with self-tapping screws or a confirmation.
  • On a flat surface, lay out the boards for the table top, mark the position of the legs and fasten the boards of the table top through the upper bar of the legs.
  • Install a horizontal brace between the legs.
  • Wait 2 - 3 hours for the glue to dry and remove any burrs and sharp edges from the table.
  • Then the table can be varnished. Or just treat it with an antiseptic.

Table with X-shaped legs

A table with X-shaped legs is essentially not much different from a table with straight legs, it just has a different shape of the legs. However, it is impossible to make without creating additional grooves on the legs. This complicates the work somewhat.

Fig. 4.

Table legs consist of 3 elements. Two criss-cross legs and a vertical top bar. The top bar, as in the previous case, is necessary for fixing the table top.

Fig. 5.

To connect the legs in the inclined supports, you need to make a slot in the floor of the board.

Fig. 6.

The table assembly order is as follows:

  • The boards are cut to the required length.
  • A groove is made in the legs to the floor of the board. The groove can be made with a jigsaw or a router.
  • Collect the legs. The connections are glued. The parts are fastened with self-tapping screws.
  • The boards of the table top are laid out and the assembled legs are attached to them.
  • Install the bottom screed board.
  • They process the table from burrs and varnish.

Table with benches

A table with benches is often installed on verandas or outdoors. Unlike the structures described above, it does not require additional benches or chairs, benches are included in the design of the table.

Fig. 7.

The disadvantage of this version of the table at the dacha is that the structure is quite cumbersome, and it becomes very problematic to remove it for the winter.

Fig. 8.

A feature of the table design is that the benches are fixed directly on the table legs. The crossbeams on which the benches are attached are at the same time the tie for the legs, and the benches play the role of a longitudinal tie.

Fig. 9.

The order of assembling a table with benches is as follows:

  • Cut the boards to the desired length.
  • Assemble the legs and support for the bench flooring. The joints are glued and tightened with self-tapping screws.
  • Mark the boards for the table top and mount them to the legs.
  • Secure the benches.
  • Treat with impregnation or antiseptic.

Friends asked me to make a table that can be put in a gazebo in the country. I did not choose a special version of the project to make a table from a bar with my own hands, but suggested a simple scheme for assembling furniture from standard timber lumber: a bar and a board. The main idea was that the table was low and could serve as a bench at the same time. In the workshop I had all the tools and devices. It remained to check everything and prepare the workplace in order to make a table from a bar with our own hands.

Instruments

Since the structure must be made of wood, the tool was mainly needed for woodworking. Here's what I used when making a table from a bar with my own hands:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • gas-burner;
  • drill screwdriver;
  • a wrench with a socket nut head;
  • chisels;
  • reamer drill ø 2 cm;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • clamps - 2 pcs.;
  • die for cutting external thread ø 6 mm;
  • grinder;
  • roulette;
  • brushes.

Materials (edit)

I went to a construction supermarket and bought the following:

  • PF 170 varnish - 0.5 l.;
  • joiner's glue;
  • screws 7 cm, 50 cm, washers and nuts, plastic plugs.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a wooden table from a bar with your own hands

Initially, I wanted to make a table with my own and my own hands from 50 x 50 mm bars. But this idea had to be abandoned. Friends asked me to make massive loft-style furniture. Therefore, I used larger lumber. I decided to make the table in two stages: the assembly of the support structure and the formation of the table top.

Countertop manufacturing

  1. I cut the wood 10 x 15 x 600 cm with a saw into 6 pieces.
  2. I cleaned the upper corners around the perimeter of each element with an abrasive wheel at an angle of 45 ° and a width of 0.5 cm.
  3. To make 2 through holes ø 6 mm through the tabletop, I clamped 3 pieces each with clamps and drilled with a drill. Then I left 2 lines and added a new element and drilled again. I did this because there was no long drill.
  4. Outside, the holes were expanded with a reamer ø 2 cm to a depth of 1 cm.
  5. I sawed the reinforcement ø 6 mm into 2 pieces 0.9 m long.
  6. At the ends of the studs, I cut the thread with a die.
  7. I smeared the lateral adjacent sides of the wooden elements with wood glue.
  8. I inserted 2 pins into the holes. I put washers on the ends of the rods and screwed on the nuts.
  9. I closed the nuts with plastic plugs.

  1. All lateral and horizontal surfaces were sanded with a fine abrasive wheel mounted on a grinder.
  1. The gas burner slightly burned the surface of the countertop. This gave the wood a noble look, emphasizing the structural pattern of the cut of the wood.
  2. The entire tabletop was stained with a brush.
  3. The property of this tool is characterized by the fact that it penetrates deeply into the structure of the wood, strengthening and disinfecting it. But fine fibers create hairiness on the furniture surface. Therefore, I re-polished everything.
  4. The surface of the countertop was covered with PF 170 varnish for 2 times.

Assembling the support structure

Before making a table from a bar, I drew drawings of the supporting part and the table top of the future furniture. According to the dimensions and dimensions specified in the drawings, he started making the supporting structure of the table with his own hands.

  1. I made the legs for furniture by sawing a 10 x 20 cm tree into 2 pieces 86 cm long + waste.
  2. At the top of the supports from the outside, I fixed bars of 30 x 30 mm on screws.
  3. I made a crossbar from a board 20 x 150 x 660 cm, fixing it with screws to the centers of the lateral sides of the supports.

  1. He burned the entire outer surface with a gas burner, covered it with a stain, sanded it.
  2. The supports were varnished with PF 170 in two layers.
  3. I installed the tabletop on a support frame.
  4. I fixed the tabletop through the slats of 30 x 30 mm with screws.

Cost of materials

  • timber 100 x 150 x 6000 mm = 1500 rubles;
  • timber 100 x 200 x 2000 mm = 440 rubles;
  • timber 30 x 30 x 2000 mm = 50 rubles;
  • board 20 x 150 x 740 mm = 20 rubles;
  • abrasive wheels for a grinder = 50 rubles;
  • reinforcement with a diameter of ø 6 mm and a length of 2 m = 20 rubles;
  • nuts and washers, 4 pcs. in stock;
  • sandpaper = 10 rubles;
  • stain - 0.5 l. = 100 rubles;
  • varnish PF 170 - 0.5 l. = 50 rubles;
  • wood glue 250 g = 160 rubles;
  • screws 70 mm, 50 mm available.

Total costs were: 2400 rubles.

Labor costs

The time spent on making a table from a bar with your own hands according to the drawings is combined in the following table.

Taking into account the technological breaks in work, it was possible to make the table in 3 working days. A country table from a bar, made by me according to drawings, can play a role not only as a plane for arranging objects, but also be comfortable furniture for sitting. Such a model attracts with its simplicity of manufacture, low labor costs and practicality. When assembling furniture, you must comply with all safety requirements and use personal protective equipment.

For those who live in big cities, a summer cottage is a kind of paradise. Fragrant herbs, clean air, the smell of a fire and always a wonderful home, which is comfortable and homely. A special coziness to the country house and the outdoor area is given by furniture made with your own hands to your taste, which can revive the space. In this article, we will tell you how to make a table for a summer residence with your own hands.

Agree, it's still easier than making a sofa or wardrobe. To implement your plans, you do not need to specially study or invite specialists. To work, you need inspiration, and prepare the necessary materials.

Preliminary stage

The appearance of the finished product is important. When making a table for the dacha with your own hands, do not neglect it.

It will be nice to observe the admiration and surprise of the guests, to whom you declare that you made it yourself.

  1. Its main base is a wooden tabletop. As a rule, ready-made boards or wide boards are used for this.
  2. An important factor is also the selected type of wood, from which you decide to make the table:
Conifers
  1. Spruce and pine are soft wood species, they are easy to process. Just do not forget about the features of such rocks, which are more flammable.
  2. Also, a table for a summer residence made of such a tree has a wonderful smell of pine needles. But remember that there is a large amount of resin in this material, and it will show through on the surface for some time.
Deciduous
  1. Hardwoods such as beech, ash and oak are stronger and more beautiful.
  2. When working with them, it is advisable to use special tools for grinding and sawing.
  3. If you process a deciduous tree correctly, then build a table that you will use for many years.
  1. In addition to the table top, the table should have legs. You can make them from a wooden panel or buy ready-made ones.

Tip: if you did not find them in the store, look at the counters that sell auxiliary materials for making stairs - 4 pieces of metal or wood balusters can be quite useful to you.
Factory blanks will add some gloss and chic to your table.

Preparation

First you need to determine where you will install the furniture, whether you plan to take it out of the house. For example, a narrow and long table that will provide freedom of movement of people around the room would be a good solution for a country house.

Materials and tools

  1. Grooved boards. They will create a tight connection and will protect the table from liquid entering the crevices. You can also use a pair of ready-made wood panels, 2000x300 mm in size.

Tip: To ensure the stability of the table against loads, select the thickness of the boards approximately 30 mm.
When choosing a material, make sure that the boards or boards are even, they must absolutely exactly fit each other, this will save time for individual measurements and trimming.

  1. Rails for fasteners - 3 pieces. They are needed for the stability of the structure. The most suitable size is 2000x100 mm with a thickness of 28 mm.
  2. Table legs (ready-made) or balusters, their price depends on the quality of the material.
  3. Hacksaw.
  4. Self-tapping screws.
  5. Electric drill. Please note that this tool must be in stock. You will definitely need it, so if you don't have your own, then rent it or ask for temporary use.

Advice: if there are interruptions with electricity in your area, renting a diesel generator for a summer cottage will help solve the problem.

  1. Polyurethane varnish. You can choose from both glossy and matte. The second one shows the structure of the tree well. Instead, you can use natural oils to protect the wood from external factors.

In the photo - a suburban diesel generator

  1. Good quality brushes.
  2. Grinding machine. Its absence will greatly complicate the work.
  3. Sandpaper with fine and coarse fractions. This will make it possible to provide the table with the desired smoothness.

Process

Below is a step-by-step instruction:

  1. Connect the boards or boards and lay them upside down... At this stage, it is necessary to monitor the docking so that the country table is level.
  2. Secure shields or planks... Place the slats along the long sides. This will allow them to be strengthened and fixed along the short boards. To ensure the stability of the table, additionally fix the boards (or shields) with rails in the center in one or two places.
  3. Be careful when locking the rails.... Screw the self-tapping screws slowly, without changing the degree of pressure, angle and intensity. Otherwise, the shield or rail will split, which will affect the quality of the product.
  4. Fix the table legs at a distance of 50-70mm from the edge... Using an additional rail, strengthen the attachment point so that the support does not deform over time. This will enable the table to look perfect for a long time. Fix the legs also slowly.
  5. Turn the table over and remove debris and sawdust, sand all the roughness with sandpaper and a sander... Dry the table thoroughly with a dry cloth.

Decorating

Build a country table yourself is not all.

Now you need to start finishing, and, if you like, decorating.

  1. Cover the entire surface of the table with polyurethane varnish. (See also the article.)
  2. Then you need to let it dry for a day.
  3. Carefully examine the surface of the table, sand again with sandpaper and varnish a second time.
  4. If you wish, then you can paint the table, for example, with acrylic paint.
  5. As soon as the surface is completely dry, the product can be used for its intended purpose.

Output

In this article, it was described in detail about one of the ways to independently make a country table out of wood. Although at first glance the work seems difficult, in fact, the process is quite exciting, which will make it possible to make good solid furniture for little money. The video in this article will help you find additional information on this topic.
