In addition, the price of wooden finishing strips is quite high (from $ 2 per linear meter, depending on the type of wood and the country of origin).
  • In second place in popularity is pvc plinth. These slats are distinguished by a variety of sizes, shades, designs and models (it is not difficult to choose). The dimensions of the plastic strips in width vary from 14 to 40 mm, that is, they can be located close to or further from the wall along their lower point. In height, the dimensions of plastic strips reach from 40 to 150 mm. In this case, the length dimensions, as a rule, do not change and amount to 250 mm. How to choose the right skirting board

The fact is that today the habit of sticking to a combination colors flooring and plinth fades into the background. Increasingly dominated by the combination finishing panels with window frames, door trim or walls. Let's consider in detail all the options.

  • So if you have already chosen interior doors and you really liked their color, and the color scheme in the room is somewhat out of the picture, you can save yourself by means of a plinth. That will be even better. By purchasing decorative strips in the same color as the doors, you can quite easily integrate the doors you like into general interior. A vivid example of this blue wallpaper on the walls and red interior doors. Here, the color of the plinth will smoothly meet at the door with the cashier and create a harmonious contrast. Another example of such an implementation of a skirting board and a door white color on the background dark wallpaper or paint on the wall in combination with dark parquet or laminate. You can't imagine better.

Phto:

  • If you choose PVC panels, then, as a rule, manufacturers offer to combine it in color and texture with a laminate on the floor. This solution looks good in a large spacious room. If the room is small, then at least give preference to light shades of coating and planks. So you can visually expand the room and make it taller.
  • If desired, you can paint both the walls and the baseboard in the same color. Here, planks made of solid wood for painting are suitable. This solution is original and fits perfectly into such interiors as modern, classic or high-tech. In addition, here you can play on the contrast. In this case, the color of the skirting board should be one tone darker than the shade of the walls. At the same time, it is excellent and even better if the ceiling cornices are the same color as the baseboard. Specialized stores will help you choose the paint.

Important: it is better to choose paint from the same series, but in accordance with the palette provided by the manufacturer. You need to choose once, but for sure.

Photo of skirting boards and walls of the same shade:

  • If the soul wants something unusual, then use the contrast. Here you can very well combine the shade of window frames and baseboards. At the same time, the color of the doors or the cashier should be neutral, and the curtains should not hide the shade of the window frames. Ideally, it is better to match the color and shade of the doors. That is, both windows and panels should be conspicuous with a line of the same shade.
  • If the room has carved stucco, it will be better if the color of the plinth and stucco are identical. Thus, sharp boundaries are erased, and all protruding decorative elements are not striking.

Carved panels and skirting boards Photo:

  • When as wall material panels were used on half the wall, then you can use skirting boards of the same shade as an addition. Thus, a unified panel construction, which gives the room solidity. For greater "persuasiveness" of that de color, cornices can also be mounted. Interesting and original. And most importantly - the geometry of the room is clearly outlined.

Photo of the original panel solution:

  • If there is a lot of metal in the design of the room, you can use an aluminum plinth. cold shade panels will give the room a kind of prostration. Fortunately, the types of aluminum skirting boards allow you to choose to create a bright design.

So, you have decided on the style of the interior of the future room, perhaps you have already painted the rooms or pasted wallpaper? Then the matter remained small - you need to choose the color of the floor.

It is important that the selected shade of horizontal coatings fit into the palette rules. There should be a harmony of color combinations. It is also important to consider the dimensions of the room so as not to disturb the balance of space.

Floor color selection criteria

  1. Estimate ceiling height and decide if you can afford dark colors On the floor.
    If the ceilings are low and the rooms are small, then the total area of the room will be squeezed by the dark floor. In this case, you should choose a floor covering light shade- white, light gray, golden, sunny.
  2. Analyze and select the color of floors and walls in a single harmony.
    It is important not to make mistakes with the selection, not to mix everything together and not spoil the picture of the decoration.
    Negative examples:
    • bright orange-gold and blue;
    • purple and light green;
    • blue and pink;
  3. Decide what color to choose a plinth.
    It should frame the floor and not break the design. If the room is small, then the contrasting option will create an imaginary frame and visually reduce the space. The color of the plinth can be wood or plastic, marble or granite - for every taste!

How to choose a skirting board color

Ideally, the plinth is selected under the floor covering. And the textured pattern is also best combined if it is in the same direction.

  • For example, to wooden floor best to choose wood look or its PVC counterpart.
  • Plastic is suitable for the carpet, and it is more interesting to choose contrasting shades - not tone on tone, but as a highlighting frame.
  • Under tile is definitely the best way to use ceramic variant from the same collection as the tile itself. Color is an alternative to frieze.
  • Self-leveling floor allows you to vary the choice, which depends on the chosen design.

Let's talk about the most common floor colors

White floor in the interior

White color is associated with lightness, spaciousness and purity. With such a floor, the room will be visually larger and wider. The feeling of spaciousness will dominate. But there will be more coldness. Perfectly match with the white floor. Very good in the style of minimalism, art deco, constructivism, hi-tech, Indian and, of course, in everyone's favorite eclecticism.

Under what is the skirting board selected in the case of a white coating? Focus on any components:

Since the floor itself is absolutely non-binding, the plinth can become just an element of decor and a link.

gray tone

Elegant, discreet, languidly soothing gray. It is now so fashionable that it can be found in any collection of finishing materials, be it furniture upholstery, window frames or a stretch ceiling.

Gray color is in perfect harmony with:

  • white,
  • black,
  • red,
  • pink,
  • turquoise,
  • lilac.

A little bright yellow also looks great on a large gray background- a small fluffy sunny rug on smooth floor will look great. Skirting in this case, it is best to choose exactly the same tone.

Beige, yellow, golden, brown colors

This is a classic of the genre, especially if selected flooring tree style. Absolutely any interior style in general is suitable for this floor. There is no escape from the classics, natural shades are combined with everything, so that a vicious circle of the rule of permissiveness is obtained.

For such a floor, it is best to select a plinth in the same tone, only slightly change the intensity of the color - it can be darker or lighter.

Orange, red

This is a bit reminiscent of the Soviet style - when the floors were painted with orange, red, burgundy enamel. However, too large differences in effect are given by differently selected materials and methods of flooring. It's hard to give advice here.

It is important to understand only one clear rule- if you have a controversial color, then do not forget about the compatibility palette. Warm with warm, cold with cold and acceptable combinations between them. To do this, get the necessary compatibility cards and study in detail what you like the most from what is allowed.

It would seem that the floor plinth is an extremely functional detail. It masks the gaps in the adjoining floor coverings, and also allows you to wash the floor without damaging the walls. But in fact, this element in interior design means much more than it might seem at first glance. It is he who, being properly selected, gives the decoration and furnishings solidity or, on the contrary, lightness, adds depth, and even intrigue. He is able to tie together disparate details, to make the situation more coherent, logically complete.

Professional designers pay maximum attention to floor plinths. And they give advice on the design of living space, which in practice can be applied by anyone who needs to choose and buy this finishing material. Let's try to listen to their recommendations and outline the rules for selection and selection floor plinth, taking into account all the decisive factors and important nuances.

Table of contents:

Basic selection factors

The floor plinth runs virtually along the entire perimeter of the finished room. And its practical, as well as aesthetic value for the interior is difficult to overestimate. Therefore, even if knocking out of the construction / repair estimate requires cutting costs, you can refuse anything, but not the baseboard. But if you have to choose a cheaper option, you should remember what you can not save on:

  1. On durability. The plinth should serve at least 30 years.
  2. On the quality of the surface. Skirting board care should be reduced to wiping with a damp cloth or cleaning with the most common detergents.
  3. On resistance to aggressive impact. The plinth must withstand temperature extremes, high humidity, mechanical shocks of varying intensity (not with a hammer, of course, but kicks, children's toys, etc. must be kept).
  4. On flexibility. Indeed, in the interior there are also roundings that will have to be bypassed with a plinth.
  5. At a depth. The material must have a sufficiently deep cable channel, because it is often necessary to hide television or computer wires in the plinth.

Of course, you can save on design - buy a skirting board of the wrong shape or the wrong color that was provided for by the project. But is it worth it? The plinth has an important decorative role, and artificially diminishing it means violating the balance and integrity of the interior. But if financial conditions require it, there is always the opportunity to purchase material that can at least be painted in the desired color.

What color should the plinth be?

V modern design there are no standards that precisely determine the shade of the plinth for a particular interior solution. This element can be combined with any interior detail. It is either visually hidden, or, conversely, highlighted.

The easiest option is to match the plinth to the color of the interior door.
And if the door is of a contrasting color with the walls, this technique will help it integrate as harmoniously as possible into the common space. For example, white doors in a dark interior setting are perfectly supported by a baseboard of the same shade, as well as a white ceiling with a plain (also white) cornice. In this case, the plinth gives the atmosphere lightness, which would not happen if this detail were dark in color.

Another obvious solution is a skirting board in the color of the flooring. And choosing it is not as easy as it might seem at first glance. That is, the plinth itself to the laminate or carpet is easy to pick up. The option will be advised by both the seller in the store and the manufacturer. Everything is well mounted, until it comes to the door area, which, including the color approved by the project. Shades can start to "beat" among themselves, and then something will have to be done. For example, change door frames on those that are in the color of the plinth.

You can choose a plinth to match the shade of the walls. This perfect solution when you want to "dissolve" the boundaries of living space. But the choice of material for such an option is the prerogative of professional designers. An amateur who first encountered finishing is unlikely to cope with such a task. In this case, you will have to additionally determine the shade of the platbands, ceiling cornices as well as window and door openings.

Another option is to paint the walls, doors and platbands in one color. And also buy / paint the baseboard to match them. Then what would geometric shape this detail has not been chosen, it will not violate the overall style of the space.

There is another way, loved by modern decorators and designers: a combination of skirting boards in color with window frames. It looks especially impressive when the frames contrast in tone with the walls in the room. And in order for the perception of the living space to be holistic, the doors should also be designed to match the windows and skirting boards.

If there are stucco elements in the room, it is better to choose a plinth on the floor in the same color as the stucco decor. Stucco molding generally sets the room good graphics, saturates it, relieves the despondency of emptiness. And if its color begins to echo the shade of the baseboard, this will give the effect of the identity of the space.

“Outlining” housing, revealing its geometry, helps to lay panels on the walls (from the floor by a third) and paint the baseboard in their color. In this case, a wall molding and ceiling plinth the same shade.

In rooms with difficult operating conditions (high humidity, increased vaporization, etc.), it is better to make a plinth from the same tile as the floor covering. This is done in kitchens, bathrooms and bathrooms. From a practical point of view, the decision is correct, but it is important that such a skirting board really looks like a skirting board. That is, it was small in size and preferably with a pommel in the form of a border, albeit very tiny. If collection ceramic tiles were used to finish the floor in complex rooms, the collection nomenclature should provide for such a set as a border. They should not be neglected if you want to get a really high-quality, aesthetic interior. With just cut tiles it is difficult to achieve the desired visual effect. Especially if there are neither skills nor experience in handling this difficult finishing material.

Skirting materials

Floor plinth today is made from the most different materials:

And each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Plastic plinth. This is the most economical, and therefore the most popular option, which has a number of advantages in addition to being cheap. This plinth:

  • looks visually attractive;
  • has the widest range of shapes, shades and depths of cable channels;
  • extremely easy to install (even amateurs who have encountered repairs for the first time can install it).

However, there is a minus - one, but quite significant. We are talking about the fragility of plastic products, even if they are made of a material created using the latest technologies, "guaranteeing" strength. Plastic remains plastic, so it is not resistant to mechanical as well as chemical aggression.

Plinth from MDF. This look is ideal for parquet flooring. Such a plinth has a lot of advantages:

  • it is made of environmentally friendly material;
  • looks very respectable;
  • has a wide range of shapes, sizes and shades (it is possible to choose exactly what you need);
  • it is deep enough to lay even electrical wiring inside;
  • pretty easy to install.

As for the last point, you can install an MDF skirting board in 2 ways:

  • or on special staples (like plastic);
  • or on self-tapping screws without hats (this option is considered more reliable, since it guarantees a tight fit of the product to the wall).

MDF skirting boards should be chosen at the same time as the flooring. If it's about parquet board, then in the collection of its manufacturer there will definitely be a product made of fiberboard of the required shape and shade.

MDF plinth could be called the best solution for interior design today, if not for one, but very significant minus: this material is also unstable to mechanical stress. It is not as brittle as plastic, but is easily scratched and chipped. In addition, MDF plinth is not at all suitable for finishing rooms with many radius partitions. After all, it is bent using notches on inner surface. And with a rounded installation, all these notches are clearly visible from outside which doesn't look very pretty. But for straight surfaces in a good budget project MDF plinth is the best option.

Plinth made of solid wood. This is, of course, the most environmentally friendly and durable type of skirting board. But at the same time, it is also the most expensive (about 750 rubles per linear meter for straight sections, and for radius sections - 2 times higher).

High cost is the only drawback of solid wood plinth. Otherwise, it has some pluses:

  • a wide range of wood species used in production (pine, cherry, oak, maple, ash, etc.);
  • great indoor styling complex configuration with an abundance of radius partitions;
  • perfect compatibility with expensive floor coverings such as block parquet;
  • ease of installation (such a plinth is attached to liquid nails).

And to more accurately get into the tone of the floor covering, wooden plinth can be tinted.

Plinth of ceramic tiles
(for some kitchens, most bathrooms and toilets). Such elements are used in rooms with difficult operating conditions. And they, as a rule, are included in the collections of manufacturers producing tiles. Of course, interiors look much more advantageous with a skirting board, but this material also has a minus. The same as in natural wood- price. It is even higher, since such decor is sold by the piece, and each such tile costs at least 100 rubles. As a result, a collection ceramic plinth, laid around the entire perimeter of the room, is very expensive.

The way out of this situation can be the rejection of the plinth, in principle. In such rooms, this is permissible, provided that the tiles are neatly laid out right up to the tiled floor.

Plinth made of polyurethane. An excellent, albeit unusual, material for solving an “outdoor” task. Everyone is used to the fact that a polyurethane skirting board is for the ceiling. However, there is an option for the floor. And he:

  • extremely easy to install (easily cut with a sharp knife and fastened without problems);
  • visually attractive;
  • can be painted in any color, and therefore has no restrictions on the application (suitable for virtually any project);
  • diverse (mass of shapes and sizes in stock);
  • durable in operation (up to 30 years or more);
  • resistant to temperature changes (even fireplaces can be decorated with them);
  • flexible, which means it can easily cope with the task of decorating rooms with many radius partitions;
  • has a lot of options with a deep cable channel;
  • it is neutral in its composition, which means it can be installed even in the nursery of an infant.

All of the above points testify to the "ideality" of the polyurethane skirting board. But there is a downside in this case too. And not one:

  1. Tendency to rapid pollution. Despite the fact that frequent cleaning leads to a deterioration in the visual characteristics of any product. A "buffed" skirting board will require periodic staining to maintain its visual characteristics.
  2. With all the variety of options, there is no skirting board with a wooden texture, which means for natural wood flooring polyurethane version only possible in a very limited number of cases.
  3. High price. Polyurethane skirting board also very expensive - about 1000 rubles for 2 linear meters.

Plinth height

The height of the plinth in the room is important. It depends on design solution and may be functional. So, for example, sockets are often placed on high skirting boards, or original additional lighting is laid along them, and then the height should be enough to implement the tasks.

When choosing a plinth to accommodate sockets, it should be borne in mind that:

  • socket outlets must be at least 15 cm above the finished floor;
  • the main part of the plinth can only be flat and of the required width (so that the rosette frames do not cling to the upper edge of the trim element - this looks very sloppy).

In general, according to the rules, a plinth is first selected desired height, width, relief. And only then - an electrician, no matter what was provided for by the project.

Manufacturers

As with choosing any other material, when choosing a skirting board, you need to pay attention to the manufacturer. famous brands and brands traditionally support high quality of their products in order to maintain an impeccable reputation and a high position in the market (including price). And when buying their skirting boards, the buyer can be sure that he is getting a really great product that fits perfectly into the place intended for him.

However, quite often you need to save money. Then you should look at a specific product, read the manufacturer's annotations to it and customer reviews. And also rely on the opinion of experts. And choose a really high-quality skirting board that will stand for a long time, while maintaining its qualities.

Most often, skirting boards are produced by factories specializing in the production of floor coverings. And they do it as a collection, that is, one version of the material for the floor corresponds to 1 version (or more) of the plinth. Buying a collection skirting board for the selected flooring is optimal solution unless otherwise provided by a specific design project.

For dear ones exclusive interiors skirting boards are made to order, taking into account all the features of the design solution. There are elements that look like a real work of art. They support the style, visually unite the space, linking together seemingly disparate objects.

But what if, after all, without a plinth?

If you can’t pick up a plinth, in some cases you can do without it at all. Then you will have to design the interior in such a way that a possible plinth seems superfluous, unnecessary. Experts advise in this case to apply the strobe method, into which a board (parquet, laminate) or tile enters. But then the edges of the flooring will then need to be trimmed with a chrome corner that reflects light. This is, of course, a non-standard and expensive solution. It should be incorporated into the project by the designer from the very beginning and executed at a high professional level.

However, today it is almost impossible to “not pick up” a plinth. With the existing variety of options, this part can be found for any coating and for any interior. Especially if a real specialist takes up the matter. In principle, any unprepared person is able to pick up a plinth if he relies on the rules outlined above and listens to the practical advice of designers and experienced finishers.
