How to install a shower tray yourself. Steel shower tray: advantages and disadvantages, types and do-it-yourself installation. Installation of a shower enclosure with a tray

From the author: Hello, friends! Many of us, when entering the bathroom, regularly dream that it was at least a little more spacious. This desire is especially pronounced among those who live in the so-called “Khrushchev” or other small apartments. Agree, when there is only enough free space in the bathroom for one person to squeeze in (but not bend over) - this is not the most comfortable state of affairs. There is little pleasure in being in a cramped space, and cleaning such a room causes many problems.

That is why in such cases we try to somehow optimize the placement of the necessary elements in space. Of course, it is impossible to completely give up or shower. But the modern market, fortunately, gives us quite a lot of options for solving such problems. For example, you can purchase a wall-hung toilet instead of a regular one, saving about 15–20 centimeters of space. Or read our article today and learn how to install a shower tray in your bathroom to replace a bulky bathtub with a relatively compact shower enclosure.

You can say that you have seen shower stalls in the store and they do not seem small at all. It's all right when we're talking about O closed models. They have a floor, ceiling and walls, as well as many built-in elements to perform a specific set of functions - for example, hydromassage. Such cabins are essentially a separate room. Of course, their sizes are appropriate.

We are talking about a completely different type of equipment. A shower corner can also be called a stall open type. The role of the side elements is performed by the adjacent walls of the bathroom; this corner is closed using special panels and a door (usually a sliding one). At the bottom there is a tray with a drain hole. And there is no ceiling at all.

Of course, in terms of versatility, this type of cabin is significantly inferior to closed ones. Simply put, tropical shower and you are unlikely to place built-in aromatherapy equipment here. But such a corner copes well with its intended purpose. In addition, the space savings are quite significant.

Moreover, the cost of such a design is much lower than closed cabins, and installation is much simpler. If you follow the instructions, you can handle it without any problems. So sit back, and we will begin to describe what you have to do.

Types of pallets

The first step, of course, is to do right choice in the shop. If you come there unprepared, your eyes may run wide from the variety of models. Therefore, it is advisable to decide in advance on the main desired parameters. For example, with the material from which the equipment is made. It could be:

  • acrylic. This pallet is lightweight, smooth, beautiful in appearance and durable. It can fit into any design as the choice of colors and shapes is quite large. The acrylic tray is pleasant to stand on because it is not cold. Very easy to install and easy to repair. If you scratch acrylic or cause other mechanical damage to it, everything can be corrected with sandpaper and special means for acrylic repair. As disadvantages, two nuances can be noted. Firstly, it is advisable to choose not the cheapest option, since otherwise you may end up with low-quality acrylic that will quickly turn yellow or fade. Secondly, you will have to take a close look at cleaning products - not all of them can be used to care for acrylic. For example, abrasive ones are not suitable here, as they will completely ruin the surface. Therefore, for cleaning it is necessary to purchase polishing options;
  • enameled steel. Here there will be no problems with maintenance; any cleaning agent will do, even an aggressive one. In addition, enameled steel has good strength and low cost. It is resistant to scratches, but chips appear on it quite often, so the surface requires careful handling. Other disadvantages include the always cool surface, as well as a loud ringing sound when water falls. However, you can purchase a special rubber mat that fits into the tray. Thus, you will receive protection from chips, and from coolness, and from uncomfortable sounds;
  • ceramics. Very easy to clean, strong and durable, not too susceptible to mechanical damage. It has an excellent appearance, looks aesthetically pleasing and beautiful. The installation procedure is quite simple, the only difficulty is heavy weight ceramics. For example, a square pallet with dimensions of 0.9×0.9 meters can weigh up to 46 kg. In addition, the disadvantage is the high cost. If you compare it with acrylic, the difference will be quite significant;
  • conglomerate. This material is also called artificial stone, it is made up of 80% marble and 20% other ingredients such as plastics, dyes and various resins. Looks exactly like real marble, which is undeniable dignity. In addition, the stone, although artificial, is durable and strong: it is difficult to scratch or split, and it can withstand temperature changes well. Cleaning is also easy chemical influences he is not afraid. The conglomerate is smooth and not cold, which gives special pleasure during its operation. In addition, it is resistant to fungus and various bacteria. In general, this is an excellent material, the only disadvantage of which is its very high cost;
  • a natural stone. Typically, marble or granite is used as the material for shower trays. They have an excellent appearance, are aesthetically pleasing and elegant, durable and resistant to stains, can store heat, and also soften the sound of water when it falls. It would be pleasant to stand in such a tray, since it is very comfortable to the touch, but the matter is spoiled by the fact that the wet stone surface is quite slippery. Therefore, you have to use a rubber mat to ensure own safety. Another disadvantage is the difficulty of care. Firstly, only cleaners with low alkaline ingredients are suitable for stone, otherwise the color of the material may change. Secondly, without proper treatment, stone absorbs moisture, so it must be frequently polished and special water-repellent impregnations applied. In addition to maintenance problems, a stone pallet can also be off-putting due to its high cost. However, if the budget allows and the nuances of operation are not intimidating, then purchasing such a pallet will be completely justified from the point of view of comfort and aesthetics. The material looks simply luxurious. Although in a very small bathroom stone structure may cause a feeling of bulkiness.

We've sorted out the material. Now let's talk about other possible differences:

  • form. The pallet can be in the form of a square, rectangle or semicircle with one acute corner. For small rooms The first and third options are optimal, since they are the most beneficial in terms of space saving. The rectangular shape is larger, but it is more comfortable to be in it, since it assumes relative freedom of movement. When choosing, also take into account the shape of other elements of the bathroom: sink, toilet, etc. For harmonious interior all these items must be combined. That is, it is advisable to equip a semicircular sink with a semicircular one;
  • size. There are several popular standard types pallets, which are most often found in stores. These are squares with a side of 80, 90 or 100 centimeters. Before going to the store, be sure to take careful measurements of the room to know exactly what dimensions will optimally fit into the space;
  • depth. Small pallets are the most popular. Firstly, they look more elegant and compact. Secondly, they are more convenient to use. In particular, it is much easier for older people to climb into such a structure than to overcome high sides. On the other hand, functionality may be important to you. The deep tray can be used as small bath for bathing the smallest family members or, for example, a cat. They are also suitable for soaking laundry if necessary. So make your choice based on your family's needs;
  • presence of a seat. This again depends on the needs. In small shower enclosures, the seat can become a very annoying element as it takes up some of the space. On the other hand, for older people, its presence can greatly facilitate the procedure of taking a shower;
  • siphon. Before purchasing it, be sure to measure the diameter of the drain hole. It can be in two versions: 50 or 90 millimeters. The siphon must be taken accordingly.

Now you have all the necessary information, you can safely go to the store to do your shopping and then begin the installation work.

Preparing the premises

To ensure that the pallet fits correctly and its operation does not cause problems, you first need to prepare the room. First, decide on the exact location of the structure. In this case, you need to focus on where the drain hole is located.

You need to place the pan so that the drain holes in it and the sewer are closer to each other. Too much distance will require the use of additional adapters, and this always leads to reduced connection reliability.

Secondly, it is necessary to ensure high-quality waterproofing of both the floor surface and its joints with the walls. Otherwise, your new acquisition may cause a lot of problems for your downstairs neighbors and, ultimately, for you.

Thirdly, it is very important to make the area of the floor under the pallet as level as possible. If the structure is distorted, the drain may not work well, so this aspect should be taken very carefully. The surface can be leveled using either a screed or a self-leveling floor. During work, be sure to check the levelness using a building level.

If for some reason it is not possible to perfectly level the floor, it doesn’t matter. The problem can be solved either by adjusting the legs of the pallet, or by placing plastic blocks under them. Although the latter option, of course, worsens the stability of the structure.

Installation procedure

So, everything has been purchased, the premises have been prepared, and we are finally starting to install.

  1. Turn the tray upside down and install the feet included in the kit. The space between the bottom and the floor will subsequently be protected by a special panel - measure its height and adjust the legs so that they are the appropriate length. For this you will need wrench. Turning the leg clockwise will shorten it, and counterclockwise will lengthen it. During these works, do not remove from the pallet protective layer so that the surface is not scratched.
  2. Then attach special brackets along the edges of the structure to which the side panel will be fixed.
  3. Place the tray in its intended place and use it again building level to check the evenness of the surface. If there is any deviation, adjust the legs accordingly until the levelness is perfect. Next, check that the side panel will fit between the pan and the floor, but don't secure it yet.
  4. Now we are connecting to the sewer. We insert the siphon into the corresponding hole in the pan. Then we fix a flexible hose or tube in it. We attach an elbow to its other end, which, in turn, is inserted into the hole of the sewer drain so that it goes in completely. By the way, instead of a siphon, sometimes just a hose is used, but in this case it should be bent using special plastic components included with the equipment. Curved design required to prevent penetration unpleasant odors from the sewer drain into the bathroom.
  5. Now take a waterproof silicone-based sealant and a special gun for it. Treat all places where sewer drain elements meet. That is, you need to seal the connection of the siphon with the pan and the hose, the hose with the pipe and the pipe with the sewer. Then wait a couple of hours for the sealant to cure. Only after this proceed to further work.
  6. Check the functionality of the siphon. Pour enough into it a large number of water. After it leaves, carefully inspect all connection elements and the floor underneath them for leaks.
  7. If everything is in order, then once again check the levelness of the installed and connected pallet using a building level.
  8. We apply assembly adhesive or the same sealant to the sides of the pallet adjacent to the wall, thereby ensuring a strong connection. In the same way, the legs should be glued to the floor so that during operation the pallet does not move on the floor. Wait for the fixatives to dry.
  9. Then we fasten sidebar on pre-installed brackets, at the end of the procedure we press on special clamps.
  10. Finally, we need to treat with waterproof silicone sealant all joints between the pallet and the walls and floor. To avoid staining the equipment, stick masking tape along all joints, that is, on the bottom and sides of the panel, as well as along the perimeter of the surface of the pallet. Fill all existing cracks with sealant and immediately tidy up the seam using a narrow putty knife or just a wet finger. Without waiting for the silicone to dry, remove the tape.

It remains to wait a day until the sealant completely hardens. After this, the pallet is completely ready for use. But, of course, you will also have to install other elements of the corner: for example, vertical panels and a door, or hang a special curtain - in general, provide the room with protection from flying water splashes.

You can read detailed instructions for installing a shower stall in other articles on our construction and repair portal. And now you can handle the pallet easily and simply. The main thing is not to forget to constantly use a building level and waterproof sealant during the work. These two simple things will make your work reliable and high quality.

To get more visual information, watch the video, the link to which is attached just below. This will help you gain an even clearer picture of the work being done. And we say goodbye to you temporarily and wish you every success in arranging your bathroom!

At installation of shower trays two main tasks are solved:

  • providing space for placing drainage devices (siphon and drain pipe)
  • ensuring the verticality of the walls of the shower stall, for which the tray serves as a foundation

Order shower tray installation depends on its type. More precisely, from the material from which it is installed.

Most modern shower cabins are equipped with . They are well suited for installation and are easy to assemble.

Acrylic shower tray with reinforcement - bottom view

1.1. Turn the tray upside down and screw in the legs. There can be from three to five. If the pallet is provided with a separate metal or plastic support frame (in addition to the reinforcement of the pallet itself), then perform this operation with the specified frame, because The holes for screwing in the legs will be made in it. Aim for the legs to be longer than the siphon of the drain system and protrude from the bottom of the pan to approximately the same length.

1.2. Install the drainage system. In most designs, to do this, you need to place the tray on its side, insert a connecting sleeve from the side of the bathtub (washing cavity) into the drain hole; From the bottom side, tightly push the siphon pipe onto the protruding end of the connecting sleeve. To ensure a strong connection, use glue. Seal all joints and cracks with sealants. There are options using threaded connections with gaskets - see instructions for the shower cabin.

Adjusting the legs of the acrylic tray

1.3. Place the tray on its feet. Make sure that the bottom of the siphon does not touch the floor. By rotating the length of the legs, ensure that the upper surface of the tray (the one on which the walls of the shower stall will be installed) is horizontal. This is important, because if the cabin is installed at an angle, it will quickly begin to leak.

To ensure horizontalness, use a building level. Typically this is wooden block, into which it is inserted glass flask with an air bubble floating in it. On a strictly horizontal surface, the bubble should be placed in the center of the flask opposite the corresponding mark.

If you do not have a building level, then you can check the horizontalness of the pallet more in a simple way. Take a regular shallow dinner plate with smooth edges. Place it on the side of the tray and gradually fill it with water. On the side of the edge of the plate from which water will begin to flow earlier than from the others, there is a slope - this side of the pan must be raised.

Repeat this operation on all sides of the tray until the plate begins to fill evenly. Once leveled, secure the pallet legs using stoppers.

1.4. If the tray is installed in the corner of the room or against its wall, lubricate the edges touching the walls with glue and press them tightly against the wall(s). Wait for the glue to dry and additionally lubricate the junction of the walls of the room and the sides of the pallet with sealant.

1.5. Connect a drain pipe to the outlet pipe of the siphon and install the decorative casing of the pallet in place, covering its lower part along with the legs to the floor (this operation can be carried out after complete installation shower cabin).

This completes the installation of the acrylic shower tray.

Installation of a cast iron pan

Installing a shower tray made of cast iron is fundamentally similar to the installation of an acrylic tray. The difference is that:

2.1. The cast iron pallet is strong in itself and does not require additional reinforcement;

2.2. The legs of the cast iron pan are cast integrally with the body. Therefore, horizontal alignment is possible only by placing some objects under the legs. Let's say, steel strips of measured thickness (for example, a metal ruler cut into pieces).

A cast iron pan requires almost no installation!

In this case the question arises, how to fix a shower tray so that its legs don’t move off these plates? After all, the sides of a cast-iron pallet do not stick to the walls of the room...

The problem is solved by creating a cement frame-boss around each leg of the cast-iron pallet. To form it, you can use at least a “box” from an ordinary matchbox as formwork.

Another thing is that prefabricated factory-made shower cabins are not equipped with cast iron trays. Cast iron trays are usually used together with simpler shower enclosures in the form of screens and curtains, which do not require very precise tray geometry for installation.

Preparing a place for a parapet for a cast iron pallet

2.3. Sometimes the height of the legs of a cast iron pan may not be enough to place a drain siphon underneath it. In this case, the cast iron pallet will have to be lifted using a parapet. This task is not very difficult. A brick parapet is laid around the perimeter of the pallet (or a concrete collar is made), sufficient in height to place a siphon inside it. A hole or groove is left in the parapet for the passage of the outlet pipe from the siphon. A pallet is installed on this parapet; if necessary, it is adjusted in horizontal plane; the legs of the pallet are fixed with cement bosses; The visible surfaces of the parapet are covered with tiles or mosaic modules.

Installation of a steel pallet

Today the installation is gaining popularity shower tray made of plastic. General and non-general cases of its use can be found.

- you will also find it on our website.

How to make a shower tray yourself?

The main part of the procedure is described above. Only in this case, the side of the bathtub (washing cavity) is also laid out with bricks on top of the pedestal. The drain hole of such an improvised pan is combined with the inlet pipe of the siphon. The cavity into which the siphon and drain pipe are installed is subjected to comprehensive waterproofing, covered on top with a cement plug or brickwork. The bathtub (washing cavity), as well as the rest of the pedestal, is tiled or mosaiced.

Homemade pallet for shower before tiling

How to lay out a shower tray these materials? Just like any other surface. You just need to remember that when laying tiles and mosaics, you should make a slope towards the drain hole. Perhaps by varying the thickness of the adhesive layer or cement backing. The seams between tiles or mosaic modules are sealed with a water-repellent compound.

This can be done beforehand using dowels or by pressing into cement screed strengthen profiles over the sides of the pallet for subsequent installation of the cabin enclosure.

How to install a shower tray

It's not enough to know how to assemble a shower tray, you need to have an idea where to put it.

Most shower trays are designed to be installed in the corner of the bathroom. But it may turn out that the distance from this corner to the inlet to the sewer or to the water pipes is too great. That's why pallets are preferred rectangular shape that they provide more freedom in the placement of the cabin: they can be placed either in a corner or against a wall, and even in the middle of the room.

Connecting the shower tray to the sewer

In general, since water from the water supply comes under pressure, and the distance from the cabin to the connection point to water pipe not critical; when choosing a place to install the cabin, you need to focus on the distance to the entrance to the sewer. It is set quite rigidly by the height of the legs of the pallet (pedestal). The drain pipe from the siphon to the sewer system must slope downward at a slope of 7-8 degrees for normal water flow.

Sometimes the drain hole of some pallets (especially steel ones) is located not in the bottom, but in the side walls. Accordingly, the pan must be turned around the sewer drain hole on the side in which it has a drain hole.

How to strengthen a shower tray

For many buyers of shower cabins, the strength of acrylic trays, even reinforced ones, seems insufficient. Steel pallets also need strengthening.

General rules for how to strengthen acrylic or steel shower tray, No. Typically, strengthening the structure comes down to placing bricks under the bottom of the pallet or installing supporting pillars. One thing is important: the surface of the supporting element should correspond as much as possible to the surface of the bottom of the pallet, and all supports should be the same height. Otherwise, it will be even worse: the supporting element will simply push through the bottom of the pallet.

Reinforcing the shower tray with bricks

What to do? Arrange special cement trays for pallets with careful adjustment of these structures to the configuration of the bottom of the pallet. But this kind of “monument” may turn out to be more expensive than a new shower stall, let alone a tray.

How to seal a shower tray

During installation, you may damage the shower tray. Especially if it is made of acrylic. But even through cracks up to 300 mm long can be repaired quite simply using special restoration kits. For example, "Akrol", sold in most construction stores Moscow.

The procedure for this is as follows:

8.1. Dismantle the pallet and remove all cabin parts from it.

8.2. By thoroughly inspecting the pallet, verify the nature of the damage: through or not through.

8.3. Drill holes at both ends of the crack with a drill slightly larger in diameter than the crack itself - so that it does not spread further.

8.4. If the crack is through, then glue a strip of fiberglass fabric onto it from below (on the side opposite the washing cavity) using epoxy resin.

8.5. Remove (using a drill with a cutter or just a sharp knife) chamfers 1.0-1.5 mm deep along the entire crack - so that the restoration solution can be poured into it more easily.

8.6. Fill the crack with liquid acrylic with hardener.

8.7. After drying, remove the acrylic deposits near the crack with “soft” sandpaper.

Damage to steel and cast iron pallets most often involves chipped enamel. Elimination of non-through damage of this kind also involves sealing with restoration compositions. Either - epoxy resin by applying a layer of liquid enamel on top of it, or using liquid acrylic with a hardener.

It is impossible to restore a broken ceramic tray...

Damage to ceramic (faience) pallets is most often fatal: they break when exceeding permissible loads or from blows. Those who wish can try to glue them together with any glue known to them, but at the same time restore acceptable strength and appearance it won't work.

Repairing mineral cast pallets is no different from repairing acrylic pallets.

Installation of a shower tray - price

If you don't want to bother with the question, how to assemble a shower tray, then you can invite specialists for this. For example, " Range of household services» (Moscow) charges 1,500 rubles for installing an acrylic shower tray with a sewer connection. But, as a rule, this service is provided in conjunction with the assembly of the entire shower cabin, and in itself is not very popular among Muscovites. After all, anyone can screw four legs onto an acrylic vessel.

Another question if you need install shower tray original design, By individual project, and even from some unusual material. Then the lower threshold prices is determined by your ability to bargain, there is no upper limit!

Small bathroom? Or do you simply prefer a shower to a bath? If you nodded your head in agreement to at least one of these questions, then this article will be interesting to you. Here we will talk about how to install a shower tray in your bathroom.

However, not all at once. It is important to know the installation technique, but first we will understand the types of pallets and other important nuances.

Types of pallets. Making the right choice

Pallets are quite varied. Color, material, depth, shapes and sizes - all these parameters vary between models. If you have already purchased the pallet, great. But if you are just at the selection stage, we will try to help you not make a mistake.

Differences in shape and size
In total, you can distinguish 4 main forms of shower trays:

  • Square (with edge sizes up to 130 cm);
  • Rectangular pallets have minimum size 70x80 cm;
  • Semicircular – 80x80, 90x90;
  • Pentagonal – 100x100 cm.

In addition to shape, pallets also differ in depth. So you can purchase plumbing fixtures with a depth of only 4.5 cm. The maximum is 18 cm.

Not all sizes are listed. More details can be found upon purchase. However, it is worth considering the size of the bathroom. But you shouldn’t forget about comfort either. If the small size confuses you, and the minimum depth causes discomfort, it is better not to save money and choose a larger pallet.

Differences in materials of manufacture
There are enough materials for making shower trays. The main ones are: acrylic, ceramics, cast iron, steel and even marble. Which one should you choose? The answer to the question lies in another question. Quality or appearance. The fact is that some materials are more durable, others are more durable. design solution. Therefore, you should decide what is more important to you. Or you can combine both qualities. But here comes a financial problem.

The best option would be a marble tray. In terms of external parameters and strength, none of the above options can be compared with it. However, this is where this comes into play financial plan. The cost of the pallet is high compared to other models, so not everyone can afford it.

If you rely on strength, then do not ignore cast iron and steel models. The first ones also have an attractive appearance, which, alas, cannot be said about the second option.

Acrylic and ceramic trays have a beautiful appearance. However, compared to plumbing fixtures made from other materials, they are more fragile. Despite this, it is acrylic pallets most often purchased. Many are not embarrassed by the fact that even under the weight of a person they already bend and can crack. To be fair, we note that this can be avoided. This is done by pre-installation special stand for the pallet. Curious to know how to make it? Read on.

Acrylic shower tray installation basics

Since we have already touched on the topic of installing acrylic pallets, we will not deviate from the course and will immediately analyze the installation technique.

First of all, you should decide on a stand for the pallet. It can be installed on the floor, and then the legs can be adjusted. However, it is better to mount a brick stand that will provide support from below. This way the pallet will stand more confidently, and you won’t have to worry about waiting for the day when the coating bursts.

Basic installation steps
You already understand about the brick substrate. But let's look at everything from the very beginning. It is worth noting that further instructions apply to all pallets, not just acrylic ones. So, let's go.

We have already discussed the parameters of pallets and how to choose them. However, there is another nuance that lies in the drain holes. Usually they are located at the bottom, but there are options when the holes are shifted to the side. This should also not be forgotten when choosing a pallet.

Once the shower base has been delivered, you can move on to the main work. The most necessary thing is to make markings. To do this, place the pallet in the selected location and outline it with a marker. Also, do not forget to indicate the drainage location. Try not to make any mistakes in the markings so that further problems do not arise.

After this, remove the pan, disconnect the drainage hole into parts, the outlet of which is connected to the main sewer pipe. Do not forget that the location of the hole must coincide with the previously applied markings.

Now take the pallet again and try it on in accordance with the markings. If the hole fits perfectly, you can go ahead and install the pipes. Remember that their joints must be well sealed. Finally, the pallet itself is installed.

Adviсe
The debate about how the pallet should be installed—flatly or with a slight slope—will probably never end. In fact, there is not much difference. And if the essence of a perfectionist comes out in you, and you want the pallet to stand perfectly level, stock up on a water level. But if you consider it necessary to install the shower bottom with a slight slope, be sure to take care of additional strength.

Remember when we talked about how important it is to install bricks under an acrylic pallet? If not, move the page up a little higher. So, in addition to support, they serve as a soundproofing covering for your neighbors. The water that beats against the pan will be incredibly audible to the residents of the lower apartment. If you don't want them to know your shower schedule, or just want to protect other people's nerve cells Soundproofing is a must. However, it can be not only bricks. Now available for purchase modern materials that do their job better.

Do you want to visually expand the pallet? Cover it with bricks, on top of which stick ceramic tiles. Why ceramic? She tolerates it best high level moisture. In addition, it is better to install the tiles with a slight slope towards the pallet. This way the water won't stay on it.

We make a pallet with our own hands

People often say that you have golden hands? Then maybe you can try making a shower tray with your own hands? What are the advantages of this method?

  • You can choose any shape and size;
  • At the same time, you will save something;
  • And once again make sure that your hands are truly golden.

However, think again before you jump into action. After all, the work is really not easy. Have you changed your mind? Great, let's begin.

To begin with, we determine and install the location of the drain, the height of which should be at least 20 cm from the floor. However, we are in no hurry to consolidate it. You will definitely do this, but a little later, when you have carried out all the calculations and are convinced of their correctness. After this you can secure the drain. This is obvious, but let us remind you anyway. The drain must go into the main sewer.

There is still a lot of dusty and difficult work ahead that can damage the drain. To prevent this, it should be covered metal pipe, which fits in diameter and attach it to the floor with clamps. Next you need to create a platform for the future pallet. To do this, lay bricks around the entire perimeter, which should be poured concrete screed. By the way, it should be about 7 cm below the drain level, since there will be several more layers on top. You will find out very soon what they will be made of.

So, while your screed is drying, don't waste your time. Consider what the side for the tray should be and whether a step under the seat is needed. All this can also be made from bricks, and ultimately finished ceramic tiles.

Finishing work
When the screed and brick compound are dry, you can prime the surface with a special waterproofing compound. Now the design is almost ready. All that remains is to cover it with ceramic tiles. It should be chosen according to general style rooms.

The shower tray is ready. When everything is dry, you can try it out.

As you can see, you can install a shower tray with your own hands different ways. And you don’t necessarily need to start by purchasing this plumbing fixture. However, whether it is a purchased pallet or a home-made pallet depends only on you. The main thing is to follow all installation procedures correctly, and then you will enjoy your shower for a long time.

Video: how to install a shower tray

Installation of a shower stall begins with the installation of a tray. Before installing a shower tray with your own hands, you need to prepare properly: understand the nuances of installation, assign a sequence of work, following the instructions and calculation diagram.

Types and shapes of pallets

Models of trays for different shower stalls may differ in both shape and material. The most common are acrylic, ceramic and steel - it is not difficult to install such a shower tray with your own hands, while products made of cast iron and marble are quite heavy, so it is better to entrust their installation to specialists.

The shape of the pallets can be with or without a rounded edge, square, rectangular, etc. Regardless of the material and shape, the installation principle for all models is similar. Let us consider in detail the process of equipping acrylic and ceramic pallets, what are their fundamental differences and installation subtleties, in order to simplify self-execution work and avoid possible mistakes.
You will need the following set of tools and consumables:

building level, hammer, jigsaw, screwdrivers, screwdriver, pliers, adjustable wrench, marker/pencil, drill, hammer drill, electric, copper cable, sewer pipes, trowel, concrete mortar and silicone sealant

Preparing space for a shower stall

Installation of the shower tray is carried out using one of the following methods:

  • on a special metal frame;
  • on plastic supports;
  • directly onto a flat surface.

To begin with, carefully prepare the place where the future shower stall is planned to be placed. Special attention Care should be taken to level the floor surface if you plan to install the pallet directly on it, that is, without using a frame or support. When installing a pallet in a frame or wooden structure, the walls are additionally insulated using roofing felt or polyethylene film.

In addition, you should make sure that the pallet you are installing is strong: if the structure bends under your weight, the pallet must be reinforced using boards polyurethane foam, brickwork or polystyrene foam boards. One of the most simple options reinforcement - fill the space under the base of the booth with concrete. You can do one of two things: possible options: you can make an initial concrete floor screed only in the place where you plan to place the stall, or you can completely fill and level the entire area of the bathroom.

Advice! Steel pallet is different increased noise, therefore, when installing it, you should definitely pour polyurethane foam under the bottom of the shower stall - this will help eliminate or at least reduce the loud noise from the stream of water pouring from above.

In addition to preparing the floor, it is necessary to properly install the pipes, as well as lay the electrical wiring for the shower stall. All pipes should have convenient outlets so that it is easy to connect hoses to them. As for the electrical wiring, it is made hidden and necessarily moisture resistant, and it is important to make as few twists as possible. The power supply cable is connected using a three-wire copper cable with double insulation, the cross-section of which is from 2.5 mm. An RCD must be installed; the cable is laid directly from the electrical panel.

Attention! If you do not have the appropriate skills and experience in working with electrical wiring, it is better to entrust the work of connecting the shower stall to the electrical panel to an experienced specialist!

How to install an acrylic shower tray

Acrylic models are usually equipped with adjustable legs, which can already be attached to the product, as well as brackets for convenient fastening and other types of fittings that facilitate the installation process.

To adjust the legs, an adjustable wrench and a level are used, which allows you to install the product as horizontally as possible in relation to the floor.

Products made from acrylic have one weak point - under their central part support is often lacking. Therefore, acrylic pallets are often placed on stable podiums or special supports. The strength of the pallet will directly depend on the size of the existing installation clearance. At the same time, it is important to leave unimpeded access to sewer pipes.

After strengthening the bottom, proceed directly to installing the product:

  • markings are being applied - the structure is aligned horizontally using a building level, a line is drawn along the walls/tiles with a marker/pencil to accurately mark the markings of not only the profile, but also the drainage hole;
  • the pan is temporarily removed, all parts of the drain are separated, the drain outlet is connected to the sewer pipe;

  • the siphon for the shower tray is combined with the drain into a siphon drain hole - the so-called gluing of pipes is performed, a seal is installed on the drain hole, and the tray itself is placed on top of it, then the drain funnel is screwed on;
  • the central part is fixed - bricks are placed under the base, serving as a support, or steel pipes, and on top there is a layer of thick rubber, after which the structure is retracted and attached to silicone;
  • the booth is connected to all necessary communications;
  • cladding is performed along the lower perimeter of the entire structure decorative panels, while the joints are carefully sealed using silicone sealant.

Installing a ceramic shower tray

Attention! The installation of any ceramic tray must be done extremely carefully. The product is very fragile and can easily be damaged or cracked even with a slight impact or falling of a heavy object!

A distinctive feature of ceramic models is that there is no free space, which means that no additional supports are required and installation can be carried out directly on flooring. This is convenient in that any manipulations to strengthen the structure are excluded, but there is a drawback - difficulties arise in providing access to the drain and all other communications.

Work order:

  • markings are indicated - using a marker/pencil, the future location of the drain is indicated and boundaries are drawn along the entire perimeter of the structure;
  • a drain hole is equipped (it is important that it is as close as possible to the supplied drain pipe) - the part of the floor where the siphon will stand in the future is carefully cut out with a jigsaw;

  • provides unhindered access to sewer lines- not far from the existing cutout, another small recess is made in the floor, so that the section of the floor is outside the boundaries of the structure and it becomes possible to lay a siphon and a network of pipes under the floor;
  • a small removable inspection panel is made from a piece of flooring cut out with a jigsaw, and PVA glue, previously diluted with a small amount of water, is applied to the location of the pallet in two layers;
  • the siphon is connected to the drain;
  • the pallet is fixed with a solution, while maintaining a horizontal position;
  • when the solution is completely dry, the siphon is carefully connected to the pipe through the inspection panel;
  • all joints are carefully sealed with silicone sealant.

Home renovations are always perceived positively only at the first stage, when everything planned is brought to life on paper. When the stage of the actual installation process approaches, many disputes, disagreements and pitfalls arise that simply no one knew about.

In this article we will describe in detail the process of renovation in the bathroom, or more precisely, the installation of a shower stall on a “brick pillow”.

Shower cabin made from scrap materials

As you know, the price of a finished shower cabin sold in a store can vary greatly, this is due to various factors. For example, some devices are more modern, they have more electronics, others use cheap materials, and some have a completely non-standard shape.

The choice is large enough to find something worthy affordable price extremely difficult, so we suggest not getting hung up on finished products. Let's make a better shower cabin ourselves, save money, and at the same time work with our hands.

The very first thing you should pay attention to is the shape of the pallet:

  • Rectangular.
  • Semicircular.
  • Pentahedral.

As for the materials from which pallets are made, the choice is quite varied:

  • Cast iron- the most expensive, but at the same time, the most durable and durable. They are considered the heaviest by weight, so a reliable base is required for them. On the other hand, the supports can be placed around the perimeter, leaving the central part suspended.
  • Steel pallets are slightly inferior in strength and durability, but they are also more affordable. There is one drawback: steel makes noise when exposed to water, so it is necessary to use a special noise muffler under the pan.
  • Acrylic- the most diverse in shape, but the least durable. Under the weight of an adult, such a pallet will easily bend, and under increased load it will even crack. Therefore, pallets are installed with an additional support element made of metal parts.

Note! You can make a shower tray out of brick with your own hands, but it must be lined with ceramic tiles. Firstly, it's better with aesthetic side, secondly, tactile contact with brick cannot be called pleasant.

Now let's select one of the above pallets to describe the installation process using its example. We will give preference to the most durable and reliable - cast iron option.

Additional materials

To install a shower cabin with your own hands, we will need:

  • Plumbing elements: siphon, hoses, valve, rubber rings, foam tape, shower head.
  • Silicone sealant will also come in handy.
  • To prepare the solution you need cement, sand and a plasticizer.
  • Construction brick (for example,).

  • Best used for finishing tiles.

As for tools, you need to purchase:

  • Construction level (laser device).
  • Roulette.
  • Putty knife.
  • Master OK.
  • Mallet.
  • Caulk gun.

Preparing the premises

Important! If the bathroom renovation is carried out in country house, then be sure to ensure that the pipeline is initially located correctly. To do this, the drain is installed in the floor, in any part of the room. Pipes with cold and hot water It is better to install it in the wall so as not to spend money on additional finishing during renovation.

  • The first step is to vacate the room, dismantle the old flooring and cut off all the old plumbing elements.
  • Measure the working area and calculate the amount of building materials.
  • Prepare cement-sand mortar using water and plasticizer.
  • Level the walls and floor using mortar or putty. You can skip this stage, but, you see, in a more level room it is easier to do repairs, at least Decoration Materials easier to attach.

Installing the base

Below you will find instructions from which you will learn in detail how to attach the pallet to the bricks:

  • After the floor is leveled, it is necessary to mark the boundaries of the cast iron pan.
  • Now you can knead cement mortar for brickwork.
  • The next step is to use a trowel to apply a few strokes of cement to the floor surface.
  • Place a brick on them and move it lightly through the mortar. The final position of the material must coincide strictly with the line of the pallet.
  • Then hit the brick with a mallet several times to press it to the floor as best as possible.

Note! The thickness of the joint for brickwork can vary, it all depends on where it is carried out. In this case, 5-7 mm is enough to maintain strength.

  • Place a second brick perpendicular to the first to form a letter "G".
  • Lay out as many bricks as high as necessary so that the pallet does not touch the floor surface and there is room for the drain hose.

In the photo - under the pan there is not only a drain, but also a water supply

  • Do the same in all other corners, observing the drawn line of the pallet.

  • While the solution dries, you can install the plumbing elements.
  • After waiting a certain amount of time (at least 2-3 days), you can begin directly installing the pallet.
  • Before you lay the cast iron product on the bricks, you need to apply cement mortar to them.
  • Having placed the pallet, you should press it firmly and check with a building level whether the horizontal plane is maintained.

  • If everything is fine, you can connect drain hose with drain pan hole.

The next stage is finishing. Since we took tiles as a basis, we only need two things: plastic crosses for installing them between the tiles, and grout for the seams. And in desired color. So, in fact, the shower stall is ready, all that remains is to hang the curtain from the ceiling so that splashes do not fly in all directions.

Acrylic tray

A cast iron product is still expensive and not everyone can afford it, so let’s briefly look at the process of installing a more flexible and elastic material - acrylic.

  • It is best to use for support in the central part of the pallet. metal carcass. It can be welded from 20x20 mm corners.
  • As for brickwork, you can save a little Money and purchase double sand-lime brick M 150.

  • They should also be installed in the corners.
  • The welded metal frame is attached between the brickwork and the floor using dowel nails.
  • To prevent the metal from rubbing the acrylic surface, it is necessary to use an insulating material. The most affordable thing that can be found in available materials is ordinary rubber, which is glued directly to the metal.

Important! The joints of pallets (either cast iron or acrylic) should be treated with silicone sealant. If you think this option is not very aesthetic, then you can use plastic decorative corners, which are fixed with glue or sealant.

As you can see, a do-it-yourself brick shower is quite affordable, even for people not involved in construction and renovation. The main thing is to do everything as the professionals advise, then the result will please you longer.

Conclusion

Brickwork is not afraid high humidity, it is important to isolate other elements from direct contact with water. For example, the main source excess moisture may be the drain hose.

If it is installed without the appropriate materials (fumulous tape and rubber rings), then there is a high probability of leakage, as a result of which water will accumulate under the pan. And this is an excellent environment for the proliferation of harmful microorganisms.
