How to choose a diesel heat gun. How to choose an electric heat gun. What you need to pay special attention to when buying an electric heat gun

When choosing a heat gun, you should decide for what purposes they will be needed: heating a house, a garage, a greenhouse, or for construction needs.

In any case presented, for the correct choice of an electric heater, you need to decide on its power, design characteristics and manufacturer.

Technical properties and characteristics of heat guns

Heat guns for home

The first thing to look out for- these are the parameters suitable for the normal and high-quality operation of the heat gun. It is necessary to choose according to power and suitable electrical voltage.

For the first characteristic, there are two main calculation options. The simple definition is that for heating 10 sq.m. rooms need at least 1 kW of electrical power. And if you have a room of 4x6 meters, simple calculations will show that you need to purchase a heat gun with a capacity of at least 3 kW.

We got this indicator as follows: 4 * 6 = 24 sq.m., taking into account that the reserve of electrical power must be at least 20%, we consider: 2.4 * 1.2 = 2.88 kV. The closest value will be equal to 3 kW, and you need to choose it for heating this room.

The second calculation method is more accurate, and we recommend using it when choosing a heat gun for your home. In this case, the formula does not take into account the area of the room, but its volume and the coefficient of thermal conductivity of all walls. And the formula takes the following form: P = (V * dT * Kt) / 860, where:

V is the volume of the room, calculated as the area multiplied by the ceiling height, m3;

dT is the difference between the temperature inside the room and the environment;

Kt - coefficient of thermal conductivity. An indicator from 0.6 to 1 is for walls with good thermal insulation. With average thermal insulation - from 1 to 2. With poor thermal insulation - from 2 to 3. Old houses - from 3 to 4.

860 is the number of kcal per 1 kW.

Required heat output

For a more understandable essence of the calculation, consider it with an example. You have decided to purchase an electric cannon to warm up your car c. The volume of the garage is 4x6 meters, the ceiling height is 3 meters. The temperature inside the structure is exactly + 15C, outside it is -20C. The temperature difference is 35C. The garage is insulated well enough, we choose the thermal conductivity coefficient 1. As a result of all the indicators, the formula takes the following form: 72 * 35 * 1 = 2520 kcal / hour.

To convert the value to kW, you need to divide it by 860. It turns out 2.93 kW. Taking into account the necessary margin, you need to choose a heat gun of at least 3.5 kW, and this will be quite enough.

It should be noted that at present there is a conditional classification of all thermal devices by power. It is generally accepted that up to 5 kW these are heat fans, and already above this power - heat guns.

Note also that the one-piece-forged impeller creates a more powerful flow of warm air. If you need a good electric heater for repairs, for example, for mounting and installing a stretch ceiling, we recommend choosing a device with just such a fan.

We wrote above how to choose the right heat gun for home and summer cottages. We hope this information was useful and interesting for you. And in the future, you can easily find the heat gun you need.

It is impossible to quickly warm up a spacious room with heating radiators or other convector heaters. Heat from appliances spreads too slowly through the room due to natural convection.

For efficient and fast heating, an electric heat gun with forced air circulation is more suitable. A powerful fan heater is able to heat almost any room in the shortest possible time.

There is a wide range of such units on the market, which differ from each other in the type of heating element, housing design, power and functionality. We will show you how not to get confused in the variety and choose a heat gun, comparing its characteristics with the upcoming operating conditions.

A floor-standing fan heater (aka "heat gun") is a household or industrial heating device that has a built-in fan in addition to the heating element. The first heats the air inside the case, and the second pushes it into the heated room.

Moreover, the circulation process occurs continuously and at high speed. This is the reason for the high efficiency of heating large areas with this type of heating equipment. When working through a fan heater with a capacity of only 2-3 kW, about 200-300 cubic meters of air passes per hour.

Without a continuously operating fan, the heat gun would be of little use, only thanks to it the heater in question is so effective and efficient

With the help of a thermal electric oven, they heat:

  • construction sites;
  • garages and workshops;
  • agricultural and industrial premises;
  • living rooms;
  • greenhouses;
  • warehouses.

It is also often used to heat or dry various surfaces: stretch ceilings, plastered walls, etc. The electric fan heater does not emit exhaust gases and toxins during operation. From an environmental point of view, this equipment is completely safe and harmless.

A thermal electric gun should not be confused with analogs - or. It is difficult to call them environmentally friendly. With the heated air, at least carbon dioxide comes out of them, large volumes of which are dangerous to health.

Electric heaters are relieved of this; by definition, nothing is burned in them to obtain thermal energy.

You cannot confuse an electric heat gun with a gas, diesel or infrared one - in the first two cases, a different source of energy is used, and in the second, the principle of heat transfer is changed

An infrared heat gun is similar in design and appearance to a fan heater. However, there is no fan as such. The transfer of thermal energy here occurs not due to forced air exchange, but through infrared radiation.

That is, in this case, heat is transferred directly to heated surfaces and objects using infrared rays, and not through preheating the air.

Advantages and disadvantages of the unit

Among the many advantages of a heat gun operating only by electricity are the following:

  • possibility of installation in unventilated rooms;
  • long period of continuous work;
  • lack of open fire;
  • the presence of a regulating automatics with a thermostat;
  • receiving heat immediately after being connected to the power grid;
  • no need for the constant addition of combustible fuel;
  • the ability to use the gun as a regular fan;
  • high efficiency when heating large rooms;
  • small dimensions;
  • versatility in terms of placement.

The fan heater does not emit unpleasant or harmful substances into the air. There is simply nothing to burn in it. Occasionally, when this appliance is operated, a burning smell appears for a short time after the power is supplied.

This is due to the accumulation of dust on the heating element and the protective grill. If the cannon is kept clean, this will not happen.

Even housing can be heated with a fan heater (there are no gas emissions from its operation), problems can arise only with air drying

The heat gun is able to work unattended and continuously for several days. There is no need to add fuel to it. At the same time, the presence of automation guarantees that the temperature in the room will be maintained in the required parameters without human intervention.

The heating of the coil, which heats the air in the heat gun, after the electric current is applied, occurs in a matter of seconds. Heat almost immediately begins to flow into the heated room. In this regard, the equipment in question greatly outperforms other options for heaters.

Fan heaters are extremely easy to use. It is only necessary to prevent the accumulation of dust inside, which will smoke when the spiral is turned on. They can be placed on the floor, wall and even on a table. The range of this heating equipment is extensive. You can find an option for any placement and with any size.

The fan heater has only three disadvantages:

  • Oxygen "combustion" and air "drying";
  • high noise level when the fan is turned on to maximum;
  • dependence of the power grid.

The air around the heated coil naturally dries out during the operation of the electric heat gun. As a result, the total humidity in the room gradually drops, and it is impossible to get away from it.

A similar situation develops with oxygen: it gradually burns out due to the contact of air masses with a hot heating element.

Of course, these are not the same volumes as when working with a gas or diesel cannon. But if this moment is critical, then the fan heater should be chosen not with a spiral, but with ceramic plates.

The latter are heated to lower temperatures, which greatly eliminates the disadvantages of open spiral heaters. But such models are also somewhat more expensive.

How to choose an electric heater gun

Before you go to buy a fan heater, you need to clearly understand why you need a heater at all. If air heating is required sporadically and quickly, then an electric heat gun is ideal for such modes.

If the temperature needs to be maintained in the room for a long time and at a constant level, then it is better to look for another option, otherwise the electricity bills will “please” you with simply huge amounts.

With the help of a working electric heat gun, the desired temperature regime can be maintained for a sufficiently long time, but much more often the device is used for quick and short-term heating

It is also necessary to determine in advance the required power (depending on the volume of the room) and power supply. Powerful industrial and semi-industrial models require three-phase voltage to operate.

If there is only an ordinary single-phase outlet in the room, then the electrical equipment should be selected accordingly.

Criterion # 1: heating element

The main thing in an electric heat gun is the fan. But in all models it is standard. It is difficult to come up with something unique here. But the heating element should be dealt with in more detail. Both safety and, in many respects, the power of the heating device depend on its correct choice.

There are two types of air heating elements in a fan heater:

  • spirals made of high resistance alloys;
  • ceramic plates.

The first variant heats up to 300–600 ° С, and the second only up to 150 ° С. However, due to the smaller area of the heating element, the spirals are somewhat inferior to the plates in terms of efficiency.

The heat transfer surface in the first case comes out much less than in the second. And the fan “removes” heat from the entire heated area.

Which manufacturer to prefer

In domestic stores of heating equipment, electric guns are found both imported and produced in Russia. In general, there is not much difference between them. Here you need to focus more on the power of the device.

But there are recognized leaders among manufacturers, for whose branded fan heaters you will have to overpay a little.

If you need a powerful and durable electric oven for heating, then special attention should be paid to models under the Ballu (Netherlands) and Master (USA) trademarks.

Fan heaters are produced by a fairly large number of domestic and foreign companies.

Among the main brands that have won consumer confidence are:

  • Ballu(Dutch brand, but production is established in Russia);
  • Master(USA);
  • Timberk(Sweden);
  • Inforce(Russia);
  • Fubag(Germany);
  • Quattro(Italy);
  • Tropic(Russia);
  • Resanta(Latvia).

Almost all manufacturers offer heat guns in a wide range of power for heating and air consumption. In the existing range of this equipment, there is always a model for specific needs, you just need to correctly assess the needs.

Taking an electric gun that is too powerful, and then turning it off every few minutes so as not to burn out is not too reasonable and costly.

If you want to save money, you can. For assembly, you will need a heating element, material for the case (metal sheet or pipe), a fan and an engine.

Conclusions and useful video on the topic

To make it easier to understand the features of the device of different models of electric heat guns, we have made a small selection of videos with reviews and descriptions.

Electric fan heater device with ceramic heater:

But we must be aware that electric heat guns with a spiral or ceramic plates are designed more for short-term heating. If you need a heater for permanent operation, then it is better to take a convector or an oil radiator.

A heat gun is one of the fastest and most powerful types of space heating. To select the desired design of the heat gun, we will conduct a brief analysis.

What is a heat gun

In our climatic conditions, even with enhanced insulation of the room, using modern finishing insulation, using heat-insulating plaster, one cannot do without heating.

A heat gun, like conventional heaters, consists of a heating element, a housing and a fan. Since this technique can establish a comfortable temperature in rooms in a matter of minutes, a very powerful fan is used in heat guns.

The fan forces air through the heating element, thereby creating a powerful heat flow.

Heat guns are mobile, which allows them to be moved from one place to another.

Outwardly, this unit resembles a cannon, has a cylindrical body, is located horizontally or at a slight upward angle.

Very often, it can be said mainly, heat guns are used at a construction site or industrial facility.

How to correctly calculate the required thermal power of the gun

Before purchasing this unit, you need to know the size and volume of the room in which the heat gun will operate, whether there will be people constantly there.

It is necessary to decide what type of fuel the consumer will use - electricity, gas or diesel.

Any good salesperson will ask leading questions before proposing a model.

For example: the volume of the room, depending on this volume, the required performance of the gun is selected. With an average ceiling height of 3 meters, one kilowatt of heat output is enough for heating approximately from 8 to 12 cubic meters. The larger the room, the more powerful the equipment should be.

There are formulas by which you can independently calculate the required thermal power.

Thermal power (kcal / hour) is equal to Vx ^ TxK. V is the volume of the heated room, i.e. product of width by length and height (cubic meters);

^ T is the difference between the outside air temperatures and the required indoor temperature, in degrees Celsius;

K is the dissipation coefficient, depending on the type of construction and insulation of the room.

A simplified wooden structure or a corrugated sheet metal structure without thermal insulation has a coefficient of 3 to 4;

a simplified construction of a building made of single brickwork with a simplified construction of windows and a roof, with a small thermal insulation has a coefficient from 2 to 2.9;

standard construction with double brickwork, few windows, standard roof, medium thermal insulation, coefficient from 1 to 1.9;

improved construction, brick walls with double thermal insulation, limited number of double-glazed windows, thick base of the floor, roof made of high-quality thermal insulation material, high thermal insulation - coefficient from 0.6 to 0.9.

One kilowatt is 860 kilocalories per hour.

But any theoretical calculations do not always give an accurate result, since much depends on the circumstances.

For example, if the building has very high ceilings, it is recommended to use infrared heaters, they do not heat the air, but the surface of objects from which heat is transferred to the air.

To correctly select a heat gun, you need to know how to heat the air flow with this technique.

The cannons are divided into several types: electric, diesel and gas cannons.

Each type has its own characteristics and advantages.

Electric heat guns

If it is possible to connect to electricity, you can install electric heat guns.

The so-called fan heaters are popular today in everyday life and construction.

Such guns are mobile, easy to operate, do not require additional fuel, and operate from the mains.

Models up to 5 kW. powered from a 220 volt network, more powerful from 380 volts.

Heat is released when current passes through a high-resistance conductor, the fan blows off heat from the heating element and carries it to its destination.

Currently, on most heat guns, heating elements are used - heaters in which a wire is placed inside the tube, the tube itself is made of steel of the austenitic or non-austenitic type.

Tubes made of non-austenitic steel are less hot, more durable, but bear less heat load per unit area. For more powerful heating, longer heating elements must be used.

Tubes made of austenitic steel oxidize during operation, microcracks appear, this can lead to the risk of explosion of heating elements.

Electric guns are relatively small in size, take up little space, but their performance is not very high, and are not suitable for heating a room with high humidity (baths, saunas, etc.).

Electric guns consume a lot of electricity, so such models are used in short-term operation.

Gas heat guns

These models are lightweight and inexpensive.

Power usually ranges from 10 to 100 kW, but there are also more powerful ones.

The only problem is that fuel, liquefied gas in cylinders is not sold everywhere, it is difficult to make a supply of fuel, since a number of requirements apply to storage of gas in cylinders.

Gas cannons are economical; during combustion, gas practically does not emit harmful substances, but ventilation is still necessary.

The consumer should know that the gas pressure in the line or in the cylinder must correspond to the selected heater model.

For the simplest model with a power of 10 kW., A pressure of 0.5 bar is required. The more powerful the gun, the more pressure.

For safety reasons, many guns are equipped with flame control and protection against overheating of the body.

Gas cannons are sensitive to low temperatures; in severe frosts, they can be unstable.

Diesel heat guns

Diesel cannons are similar in principle to gas cannons; they use diesel fuel as fuel.

It has a number of disadvantages, namely: rather high weight, since the cannon has to be transported along with the tank.

Diesel cannons are more complex.

Fuel is supplied to the combustion chamber by a fuel pump or compressor - all this leads to an increase in cost, and additional components require additional maintenance.

Diesel fuel, in comparison with gas, is more contaminated with impurities, therefore, such guns can be turned on in non-residential premises with ventilation.

But the merits of such guns are decent.

Fuel is available, its consumption is very economical, one refueling is enough for continuous operation for 10-15 hours.

Transportation of diesel fuel is safe, the heating installation is not tied to the gas main, the power is the same as that of gas cannons.

The diesel cannon can operate over a wide thermal range.

Some models refer to indirect heating devices; for this, an additional circuit is used in the guns - a heat exchanger.

Hot gases pass through the heat exchanger and go outside through the chimney, the heat is removed by a fan.

The efficiency of such guns is less, the price is higher, but you don't need to worry about ventilation and airing.

Such models are designed for heating large volumes in working rooms.

It is necessary to understand that diesel and gas heat guns still require a small amount of electricity to power the fan and the automation system, but if necessary, the gun can be powered from a small generator.

Heat guns are used to heat or dry large rooms. They run on electricity, gas or diesel. Each of the varieties has its own positive and negative sides, which we will consider in this article.

Heat gun power

The power of the heat gun is selected depending on the volume of the heated room and the degree of its thermal insulation. For simplicity of calculations, several degrees of thermal insulation are distinguished. High thermal insulation - these are multi-apartment brick, monolithic or panel houses, office buildings, private country houses made of bricks, logs or timber. Average thermal insulation - brick garages, capital outbuildings, warehouses, sheds, sheds. Poor thermal insulation - old houses, hangars, warehouses, production facilities. There is no thermal insulation in metal garages, outbuildings made of boards, hangars, in warehouses.

Having determined the volume of the room and the degree of thermal insulation, you can select the required power according to the table:

The table is based on a temperature difference between the outside temperature and the desired room temperature of 30 degrees. If the difference is smaller or larger, the result changes proportionally. For example, with a temperature difference of 15 degrees, the power should be half that indicated in the table.

The choice of heat guns can be carried out both for living conditions: heating a house, garage, greenhouse, and for construction needs (when it is necessary to dry the room after finishing). In any case, in order to choose the right type of electric heater, it is necessary to determine its power, manufacturer and design features. Next, we will tell the readers "" how to choose an electric heat gun and what parameters you need to pay attention to when buying.

Specifications

The first thing you should start from is what parameters are suitable for the normal operation of an electric heat gun. The selection should be based on power and suitable voltage.

As for the first characteristic, there are two calculation options. A simpler method of determination is that for heating 10 sq.m. the premises need at least 1 kW of power. In total, if you have a room of 4 * 6 meters (for example, a garage), simple calculations will show that you need to choose the power of an electric heat gun, not less than 3 kW. We defined it as follows: 4 * 6 will be 24 sq.m., taking into account the recommendations that the power reserve should be at least 20%, we have: 2.4 * 1.2 = 2.88 kilowatts. The closest value of 3 kW, which must be selected for heating the garage.

The second calculation method is more accurate, and we recommend using it when choosing an electric heat gun for the house. In this case, the formula does not take into account the area of the room, but its volume and the coefficient of thermal conductivity of the walls. As a result, the formula looks like:

P = (V * dT * Kt) / 860 ,

  • V is the volume of the room, calculated as the area multiplied by the ceiling height, m3;
  • dT is the difference between the ambient and indoor temperature;
  • Kt - coefficient of thermal conductivity. For walls with high-quality thermal insulation from 0.6 to 1. Average thermal insulation or brick laying in two rows - from 1 to 2. Single-row brick laying, poor thermal insulation - from 2 to 3. Dilapidated hangars made of profiled sheet or boards - a coefficient from 3 to 4 $
  • 860 - the number of kcal per 1 kW.

Power marking - 9 kW

In order for you to understand the whole essence of the calculation, again, consider it with an example. You have decided to choose an electric heat gun for the garage, or rather, to warm up the car. The volume of the room is all the same 4 * 6 meters * 3 (ceiling height). The temperature inside the building should be +15 o C, outside it is now -20 o C. Total, the difference is 35 degrees. The garage is well insulated, so we take the coefficient 1. As a result, the calculation formula will look like: 72 * 35 * 1 = 2520 kcal / hour. To convert the value to kW, you must divide it by 860. The total is 2520/860 = 2.93 kW. Taking into account the margin, it is necessary to select a heat gun of at least 3.5 kW, which will be quite enough.

Immediately, we draw your attention to the fact that there is a conditional classification of devices by power. It is believed that up to 5 kW these are fan heaters, and already more than guns. with reviews of the most popular models, we considered in the corresponding article!

The second, no less important technical characteristic is the operating voltage. There are electric heaters with a power of over 20 kW, for the operation of which, of course, a three-phase network of 380 V is needed.You should also take this point into account if you decide to choose an electric heat gun for heating a garage or giving an electric heat gun, to a new, more powerful one. Devices with a power of up to 7 kW can be connected to a single-phase 220 V network, if the cross-section of the wires allows. It is best to do before connecting to ensure that your wiring can handle these current loads.

Well, the last thing you need to pay attention to when choosing a heat gun is the operating time. As you understand, when a room is heated with a gun, it must work without interruption for a long time. That is why device manufacturers indicate on the case the value "24/1" or "24/2", which respectively means round-the-clock work with a break of 1-2 hours.

In addition, in order to choose the right electric heat gun according to its characteristics, pay attention to the noise level of its operation and the operating temperature range. Modern devices must operate at temperatures no less than +5 o C to +40 o C.

Video review of heaters for home and construction

Room type

The next, no less important criterion for choosing an electric heat gun - depending on the type of room. For example, for a home you need to buy indirect heating devices, the design of which includes an exhaust gas removal system. This is due to the fact that there are people and animals in a private house, which can be negatively affected by exhaust gases. Although this point is in no way relevant in relation to an electric heater, you should still be aware of the importance of indirect heating. If you want to choose a heat gun for a greenhouse or to warm up a car, it is better not to overpay and buy a simpler design option.

Another important nuance should also be noted - if you want to choose an electric heat gun for temporary heating, buy a portable case. If the heater has to work for a long time in one place, for example, in a summer cottage, choose a stationary type device that needs to be fixed in a certain place in the room.

Extra options

We figured out which electric heat gun is better to choose in terms of power and depending on the type of room. But that's not all you need to know about this issue. It is very important to pay attention to the following points when choosing a heater:
