Connecting the EVN to the water supply. Connecting a storage water heater - general information. Water heater control mechanisms

The presence of a water heater in the apartment compensates for temporary water interruptions. You can connect the boiler yourself if you follow our recommendations. This way you can independently regulate the heating power, which means saving on electricity consumption. Read the publication on how to carry out the work correctly.

Types of water heaters

In stores you can find boilers for every taste and color. Manufacturers are also varied: “”, “”, “Vailant”, “” and others. But the main attention should be paid to the principle of operation and type of connection. For example, equipment may differ in heat source:

  • Gas type.
  • Electric.

Not everyone has the opportunity to connect the device to gas. In addition, self-installation gas equipment prohibited - it should only be carried out by a specialist. Electric heaters are often used and can be installed with your own hands.

By design, the boiler can be flow-through And accumulative type .

Flow tanks are equipped with a powerful heating element, which instantly heats up the water flow. The devices are compact in size and easy to place. However they consume a large number of electricity (power - from 6 kW). Therefore, separate wiring may be required.

Storage water heaters have tanks of varying volumes. Water accumulates in it, which is heated either by a wet heating element. Due to the thermal insulation of the tank, heat loss is only 0.5% per hour. To connect, a small power is required - 1.5-3 kW.

In turn, storage technology is divided according to the type of heating:

  • Direct.

  • Combined.
  • Indirect heating.

If the first two types heat water using heating elements, then the last (indirect) needs solid fuel, connection to heating or solar panels.

Preparatory work

Regardless of where you are going to install: in an apartment or in a house, it is important to choose the right location. Read more in a separate article: "".

It is best to place the boiler in the bathroom or toilet. It is recommended to place a small appliance in the kitchen flow type to use the sink. Make sure that after installation, all equipment components remain freely accessible. Even if you install the cabinet under a sink or in a niche, leave room for maintenance.

Storage products require regular technical inspection. The heating element and the walls of the tank need to be descaled, and...

Other things to consider:

  • Wall strength. The 100 liter tank must be installed on a solid wall and secured with steel anchors.
  • Proximity of communications - cold water supply. The shorter the pipes, the less heat the liquid loses.
  • Heaters with electrical system correctly plug it directly into the shield using copper cable.

What tools and materials will be needed:

  • construction tape, level;
  • drill or hammer drill;
  • adjustable wrenches;
  • to connect to the pipeline you will need tees-fittings;
  • shut-off valves;
  • fum tape or tow for sealing joints;
  • flexible hoses;
  • pipes for connection - they must withstand hot water.

Also for safe work safety valves must be installed. If they are not included, you need to buy them. The safety valve saves the device from overpressure. The check valve prevents liquid from flowing out of the tank if there is no pressure in the line.

The connection diagram is shown in the picture:

How to properly connect a storage boiler

Connecting water heaters “Baxi” (Baxi), “” (Drazice), “Proterm” to the water supply is done in the same way. The only difference is the material of the water pipe. We will describe several types of installations.

To steel or iron pipes

Now you can do without welding work, when you had to cut out a piece of pipe and weld an adapter. Modern manufacturers They came up with another method - a “vampire” tee.

It works on the principle of a clamp:

  • Select a location on the riser where the installation will be performed.
  • Clean it of paint and rust.
  • Position the adapter using rubber pads.
  • Bolt it evenly.
  • Drill a pipe through a special hole with an electric drill.
  • Secure the tap and continue turning on.

For polypropylene pipes

In this case, you will need additional tools:

  • soldering iron;
  • cutting scissors;
  • tee and shut-off valves for polypropylene material;
  • couplings.

Progress:

  1. Choose a location and turn off the water.
  2. Cut a piece of pipe equal to the size of the tee.
  3. Heat the ends with a soldering iron and install the fitting.
  4. Connect the pieces of reinforcement to the tee.
  5. Place the coupling and connect a tap to it, from which a flexible hose will lead to the heater.

It is easier to connect when the apartment has only cold water supply, and not hot water.

For metal-plastic pipes

This is the simplest connection, because the segments can be connected using fittings. In addition, the material bends well in any direction. Such water supply is usually not walled up in walls.

  • Using special scissors, cut a piece of pipe.
  • Extend the ends with a calibrator and insert a tee.
  • Slide the rings and tighten the nuts.
    • Connect pipe pieces and shut-off valves to the tee branches. Then install the hoses.

How to connect parts in series

Now you need to connect everything to the boiler. You can look at the manufacturer's instructions. There are pipes at the bottom of the tank. To ensure the strength of the connections, tape is wound on their threads.

  • Using a wrench, fit the tees onto the pipes.

  • Install shut-off valves on the tees. This is necessary to drain the liquid. If you open one tap, the water will drain to a certain level and stop. If it’s different, the drain will continue.

  • The tee that will admit the flow of water is connected to safety valve. This is to prevent recirculation.

If the pressure in the line exceeds the norm specified in the instructions for the model, then a reduction reducer must be installed next to the valve.

  • A shut-off valve is installed on the pipeline through which the hot liquid will flow. See diagram:

Features of connecting a flow-through heater to water

Installation, as opposed to wall-mounted storage boiler, carried out on a hot riser.

  • Turn off the water.
  • Cut out part of the pipe. Install shut-off valves at the ends.
  • Connect the hoses to the heater fittings and pipes.

  • When dismantling, you do not need to shut off the water in the entire riser. It is enough to close the inlet and outlet pipes.
  • To start the equipment, turn on the water correctly and then start the boiler.
  • Have you decided to turn off the device? Then first unplug it and then turn off the water.

How to turn on the electricity

When connecting to the power grid, you must adhere to the following rules:

  • Devices of this power must be switched on via a separate line.
  • Copper wiring should lead to the panel.
  • Additionally, the system is equipped with an RCD (16A). It turns off equipment during power surges.
  • Be sure to ground the unit to avoid electric shock. To do this, it is better to invite an electrician.

See diagram:

When the work is organized, all that remains is to connect to the boiler:

  • Insert the cable through the bottom of the case.
  • Clean the ends with a knife.

  • Connect the yellow-green wire to ground. The remaining two are with thermostat contacts.

  • Install insulation and close the lid.

Carrying out work with an indirect heater

Depending on the heat source, the connection may be different. The connection can be made to a heating, single-circuit or double-circuit boiler.

To the heating system

The design of the water heater provides for piping. It is used to connect to water and heating.

What is important to consider:

  • Cold water is supplied only through the bottom.
  • The heated liquid exits through the pipe through the top.
  • Thermal communications must be connected through the top. The exit is through the lower pipe.

Via three-way valve

If the system has a circulation pump, then the work is carried out as follows:

  • and the heater are mounted in parallel.
  • A three-way valve is installed next to the pump.
  • A tee is connected to the boiler, the hose of which leads to the heat exchanger.

Non-volatile circuit

If your boiler is non-volatile, it is better to place the heater higher. Circulation will be carried out under the influence of gravity. If you include a pump in the circuit, then the work will depend on electricity.

If you follow the rules, you can carry out the work yourself: quickly and safely. This video will help you with this:

In order to be able to take a shower or comfortably wash dishes in the kitchen during periods when there is no hot water at the tap, many people install a water heater in their apartment. In stores they are offered in the most different models from various manufacturers. The installation procedure is not very difficult, so any apartment owner can install this device with his own hands.

Preparation for installation

When performing installation work, the most important thing is to ensure correct connection pipes. In addition, it is necessary to select best place for installing a water heater. You should also fulfill one more condition - power the cable from the electrical panel, to which the boiler should be connected, because this device requires a separate electrical diagram for your connection.

Necessary materials

When installing equipment, we use the most simple materials. Typically, for high-quality installation it is necessary to use:

In order to carry out electrical work, it is enough purchase in advance:

  • copper cable;
  • necessary elements for fastening to the wall;
  • self-tapping screws

Water supply connection diagram

The scheme for connecting a water heater to the water supply system consists of several stages. The first stage involves connecting the device to the water supply system. On the second, work is underway to create a separate electrical line for the water heater. In the connection diagram no difficult moments. If you follow the manufacturer's instructions, then everything can be done correctly without making mistakes.

Sequence of work

Having decided to connect the heater to the water supply, you must first install a filter for cold water. It is mounted on the input. There is no need to install anything for hot water, since the boiler will only be connected to the cold water supply system.

If you plan to use hot water only from the boiler, then you can completely shut off the branch with hot water supply. If the device protrudes as a backup option hot water, you need to make sure that installed screen sealed.

The inlet pipe should be located as close as possible to the apartment inlet. At the same time, other splitters should not reduce the total pressure. The pipe connected to the water heater should only be used to supply the appliance cold water and not be used for anything else. To connect the device to the water supply, PVC pipes with a reinforcing layer should be used. Apply hardware for boilers it is impossible, since they do not meet the basic operating requirements that apply to these devices. To supply pipes to the device, it is necessary to use brass adapters, and in addition, taps. They are easy to use. They are as easy to open as they are to close.

The diagram for connecting the boiler to the water supply begins at the bottom and gradually goes up. Faucet needed solder on the inlet pipe. When this is done, the adapter is installed. After this, the installation of the check valve begins. It is necessary to prevent water from overflowing from the tank into return water supply. It is worth saying that the valve provides reverse discharge of water when high blood pressure in the water heater. The adapter nut must be mounted at the outlet of the tank. It connects to a common tap. In this way, hot water is distributed.

Electrical connection diagram

The electrical circuit for connecting a water heater does not contain any difficulties, but there are still a number of points that need to be taken into account when you start connecting the heater. Most important nuance- the power of the tank must fully correspond to the type of cable used to connect the device. Best for connecting to electrical network boiler use copper wire. His the cross section should vary from 2.2 to 2.5 mm 2.

In order for the water heater to work reliably during operation and not cause problems, it is necessary to install a separate line from the electric meter. In this case, the equipment will be absolutely safe for the user. A separate machine should be installed near the tank itself. It must have a power that is similar to this parameter of the equipment used.

If the water heater has a cable with a plug, then in this case the electrical circuit for connecting the device will be even simpler. All the owner needs to do is remove a separate cable, so that later the water heater can be connected with it. When installing the device, you must do not forget about creating grounding. However, in city apartments this problem is not relevant. If there is a ground, all you need to do is connect to it. If it does not exist, then in this case it is better to work on its creation.

Equipment such as a water heater can be installed with your own hands in a short time. When performing work, the owner will need the simplest materials and tools. You will have to spend the most money just on copper cable. If you resort to the services of a specialist, then in this case you will have to pay 3,000 rubles for the work on connecting the equipment. However, this amount can be either less or more. It all depends on the installation location of the boiler and the installation conditions.

How to choose a location for installation?

Every person who has purchased a boiler, of course, wants it to work smoothly after installation. To ensure this, it is necessary to correctly approach the task of choosing the location for its installation. In most cases, such devices installed in bathrooms in close proximity to water supplies.

They are usually placed in the toilet, where the water pipes run. The bathroom is least often used to place such devices. Proximity to the risers is the main condition, the fulfillment of which ensures sufficient water pressure. To install a water heater, it should be secured only to a solid wall, since a thin partition may not withstand the load in the form of a boiler and collapse.

When installing in a toilet, it must be positioned in such a way that it does not create obstacles for using the bathroom. In some apartments the layout is not convenient enough, so it is necessary to place this equipment install two different tanks:

  • one is used for the kitchen;
  • the other is for the bathroom.

Note that this leads to an increase in equipment installation costs. The task of pulling a pipe in this case is meaningless. Therefore, it is worth abandoning this idea and installing two water heaters. In such cases, a larger volume boiler is installed in the toilet, which is associated with significant consumption in the bathroom. There is a small tank in the kitchen. When placing a water heater in this room, it is best to install it under the sink. In this case, he will not occupy free space this room. If the boiler is installed in the bathroom or toilet, then the best places there will be a place for its location above the toilet or sink.

When a location for placing a water heating device has been selected, it is necessary to determine a suitable connection diagram. You should make sure that there are no foreign objects, wiring, or water pipes near the installation site. In addition, it is desirable that near the installation site of the water heater there are racks for connecting the tank and installing a device for regulating the water temperature.

Self-installation of the boiler

If you decide not to resort to the services of a specialist and carry out the work on installing the water heater yourself, then in this case you must begin the work by: mark the place for fastening. This work cannot be done alone, so it is necessary to involve an assistant in the installation work. One of your friends or close relatives can help you. One person should hold the boiler while another person does the marking.

When trying on the place where the boiler will be located, it is necessary to leave a distance between the top of the unit and the ceiling. It should be at least 10 cm. The need for such a gap is due to the fact that with its help you can easily remove or hang the boiler when the need arises. In this case, it is quite easy to lift it and the device will be removed from the mount.

There is a fairly simple method that allows you to mark the fasteners without any difficulty. Most models have rectangular holes for fastening. You need to attach the device to the wall, and then circle them along inner contour. Next in each of them follows draw a diagonal line, at the intersection of which there will be an optimal point for drilling a hole for fasteners. If this option does not suit you, then in this case it is necessary, using a tape measure, to mark the space for the holes, measuring the distance between the ceiling and the mounting strip.

Do not tighten the mounting screws all the way. It is much better to leave some distance to the wall, about 1.5 cm, in case the wall has certain unevenness. When the equipment is hung and you see that it is wobbly, you can tighten the fasteners another turn to ensure stability.

Conclusion

Interruptions in water supply in city apartments occur quite often. Especially in the summer, when scheduled repairs of water supply networks are carried out. Each person solves this problem in his own way. Many urban homeowners buy boilers, which help ensure during such periods the opportunity to use hot water in sufficient quantities.

Buying a water heater is not a big problem at the moment. A wide variety of models allows you to choose the most suitable option. In order not to make a mistake with your choice, you must not rush into purchasing this device. First, you should familiarize yourself with the main types of boilers and models available in stores. It would be a good idea to learn about the benefits of these devices.

However, only the right choice The water heater is not enough. In order for this device to work for a long time and not cause problems, and ensure safety for the owner when using it, it is necessary install it correctly. It matters not only proper connection installations to the water supply, but also creating the correct electrical circuit for it. Many people, when installing a water heater, resort to connecting it using a power cable to an outlet. This option is convenient, but not suitable for all boilers. It is usually used for low power installations.

For devices with a large value of this indicator, it is necessary to run a separate cable from the electrical panel, to which the device should be connected. If you neglect this recommendation, then a problem quickly arises not only in repairing equipment, but also in replacing wiring in the house, which simply cannot withstand the high load. Therefore, if you are installing a boiler yourself, you should first read all the installation recommendations from specialists, and then proceed directly to the installation work. In this case, errors will be excluded. The boiler will work reliably, and you will be able to use all its functions, receiving hot water in sufficient quantities.

The presence of hot water in a house or apartment is one of the main signs of the level of comfort and coziness in it. In the distant past, its source was wood-burning titan boilers - bulky, smoky and inconvenient to use devices. Then they were replaced by flow-through geysers, which had a lot of advantages: quick access to operating mode and fuel consumption only during use, but also had disadvantages: the need for a centralized gas supply, explosion and fire hazard if used incorrectly.

Storage water boiler

In parallel with the construction of thermal power plants in large cities, pipeline networks for centralized hot water supply and heating began to develop. They allowed consumers to forget about problems with hot water, reminding them about them only during scheduled outages in the summer months. It is at this time that most homeowners think about an additional backup source warm water, affordable and easy to install.

Water heater designs

In most cases, the eyes of householders are drawn to practical and easy-to-use electric water heaters, which are divided into two main classes:

Storage boilers

Such a boiler is a tank of relatively large capacity, thermally insulated with polyurethane foam, equipped inside with:

  • thermal electric heater with electrical power of 1.2~3 kW;
  • a thermostat regulator that ensures the device turns off when the threshold temperature is reached;
  • anti-corrosion protective magnesium anode.

The outer casing of the tank is made of enameled or of stainless steel. The thickness of PPU thermal insulation is usually 2~3 cm.

When turned on, the device maintains, periodically turning on/off, the water temperature at the set level: usually 60~65° - this value is considered the most economically advantageous.

The defining characteristic of storage electric boilers is the capacity of the tank, on which the power of the heating element depends. With a volume of up to 150 l, the power does not exceed 2 kW.

The main advantages of these devices:

  • independence from additional energy sources other than electrical;
  • low electrical power;
  • relative ease of connection to both the electrical network and water supply;
  • smooth adjustment of water temperature with a mixer;
  • maintaining the temperature of heated water for a long time;
  • ease of maintenance, low operating costs.

The main disadvantages of storage-type electric boilers are:

  • relatively large dimensions and weight;
  • long wait to get back to work;
  • decrease in outlet temperature during hot water consumption;
  • limited tank capacity;
  • heating a large volume of water when a small amount is needed.

Another advantage of storage electric water heaters is the ability to create a completely autonomous system hot water supply, or inclusion in ready-made networks as a backup source of warm water.

Flow-through boilers

These devices turn on and produce continuous heating running water only during its consumption. This design assumes the presence of a heating element with high electrical power - from 3 kW and above. This parameter is decisive for water heating devices flow type.

There is a common point of view that flow devices are uneconomical due to their high electrical power. This opinion is wrong.

Let's give an example: a storage water heater with a capacity of 80 liters. with a 2‑kW heating element it heats up to 60° for at least half an hour in summer, and even more in winter, while consuming 1 kWh of electricity. A 4‑kW instantaneous electric water heater with a 15-minute shower is the same 1 kWh.

The main advantages of instantaneous water heating devices:

  • instant hot water output;
  • automatic switching on when the tap is opened: electricity is consumed only when using the device;
  • small dimensions and weight;
  • convenience and speed of installation.

Among the shortcomings we can only name:

  • the need for reinforced electrical wiring due to the high power of the device;
  • low water pressure at the outlet;
  • stepwise switching of water temperature;
  • impossibility of working for several consumers - each device is connected individually to only one point of hot water use: kitchen sink, sink in the toilet, shower stall.
  • True, over the past few years the cost of these devices has decreased significantly, so the need to purchase two or three devices of this type for the home is no longer an obstacle.

Installation instructions

We connect the boiler to the water supply

Installation of flow-through electrical devices is usually not difficult: it involves inserting an outlet equipped with a ball shut-off valve into a water pipe, as well as connecting an electrical line with a cross-section corresponding to the electrical power of the device.

Installation of storage units is more complex and requires some electrical and plumbing training, at least at the entry level. The installation can be compared to installing a meter in a bathroom.

Boiler installation diagram

You should not start work without a preliminary sketch or drawing of the device connection. The diagram for connecting a water heater to the water supply in an apartment if it is installed as a backup source of warm water is shown in the figure:

The numbers on it indicate:

  1. Main shut-off valves. They serve to shut off the water supply to the apartment from the common water riser.
    Attention! While hot water is supplied to the apartment from the riser, the shut-off valve is on common pipe must be open and closed at the outlet to the boiler. In the case of water supply from an electric water heating boiler, the valve on the outlet opens and the valve on the riser closes. Otherwise, your water heater will provide hot water to the entire entrance.
  2. Water heater shut-off valves - to perform repair work and maintenance of the electric boiler.
  3. Safety valve with drain outlet. Designed to relieve excess water pressure in the tank when it is heated.
    Note! Pressure equalization is accompanied by the release of excess water from the valve. To drain it not to the floor, but to the side, the valve should be equipped with a drainage tube.
  4. Drain valve with pipe. Designed to empty the boiler, which may be needed, for example, at the dacha when preserving the water supply for the winter.
    Important! Emptying the tank from water may also be necessary when replacing a burnt heating element or magnesium anode, which prevents the inside of the device from corrosion.

If there is no coarse water filter in the water supply system, it would not hurt to place it on the inlet pipe from the riser. This will be useful not only for the hot water boiler, but also for other electrical appliances: washing and dishwasher, For example.

If the house old building and it did not initially have a hot water supply riser, then the storage boiler may well be used as the main source of warm water. In this case, before connecting the electric boiler to the water supply, you should install the appropriate hot water pipeline in the apartment with wiring to all faucets in the bathroom and kitchen.

Selecting a location

Before you begin installing a water heater, you should decide on its placement. As a rule, you need to think through the design of your bathroom down to the smallest detail so that you don’t regret it later.

Electric storage boilers have two designs:

  • Vertical - designed for hanging on the wall directly indoors.
  • Horizontal - for hidden installation in the attic or attic room, or in the ceiling space.

Vertical devices occupy part of the room space and are more noticeable, but they can be placed in close proximity to the connection point, and therefore are easier to install and require less piping materials and installation work. And useless heat losses in long pipes can be avoided.

In addition, device bodies can be round or flat. The latter is most preferable, as it takes up less usable space and is more convenient to install, as well as aesthetically pleasing. When choosing a location for the device, consider the possibility of access to it when performing repairs and maintenance.

Note! The wall at the installation site of the unit must be strong, preferably solid, capable of supporting the weight of the tank along with the water filling it. If necessary, a non-permanent wall should be reinforced with additional structures.

Installation Tools

We prepare tools for installation

Before starting any work, prepare the necessary set of tools. Its completeness depends on the type of water pipes in the house. Considering that copper and polymer pipelines are still exotic, let’s consider a set of tools for standard steel pipes:

  • gas pipe wrench No. 2 or an adjustable crocodile, or better yet, both together;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • metal hacksaw or hand pipe cutter;
  • thread-cutting tools with heads of the appropriate diameter;
  • electric drill with hammer drill and drill bits for concrete;
  • screwdrivers: figured and electric;
  • pliers;
  • side cutters;
  • tape measure or folding meter, ruler, square, level, pencil.

Installation materials

Connecting fittings for the water heater

For installation you will also need a mandatory set of installation and consumables:

  • shaped fittings: angles, tees, couplings, bends corresponding to the thickness of water pipes in diameter;
  • ball shut-off valves;
  • pressure safety valve;
  • flexible hoses for connecting to the boiler;
  • plumbing tow or Teflon mounting tape;
  • electric wire;
  • screws or hooks and dowels, or anchor bolts Ø 8~10 mm.

Step-by-step instruction

We will start installing the electric boiler by hanging it on the wall in the location chosen for placement.

  • By measuring the installation dimensions of the unit or taking them from technical passport, mark and drill holes on the wall, insert dowels.
  • After attaching the screws, hang the boiler and securely fix it with them.

After installing the boiler and checking the reliability of its fastening, proceed to plumbing work:

  • Close the shut-off valves of the pipelines to the hot and cold water risers.
  • Mark on the pipes the insertion points for the tees-branches under the unit.
  • Attention! The connecting fittings of all modern electric hot water boilers are marked blue for cold water and red for hot water. Accordingly, mark the installation locations of the tees under them.
  • On each pipeline circuit, cut a piece of pipe with a length equal to the sum of the lengths of the tee and the bend.
  • Cut threads from both ends of the cutouts.
  • Screw a tee onto one end of the cutout and screw the side with the short thread into it. Screw the locknut and straight coupling onto the long one. Once the tee is aligned, screw the coupling onto the other side of the pipe cutout and secure with a locknut. Make all pipeline connections using tow or Teflon FUM tape for sealing.
  • Do the same with the other pipe.
  • Screw the bends into the bends, choosing their length so that the free ends are at the same level.
  • Screw the ball check valves onto them.
  • Having closed them, open the taps at the inlet of the risers and check the tightness of all connections. If necessary, turn off the water and correct problem areas.
  • Between the shut-off valve on the cold water outlet and the electric boiler tank, install an additional safety valve and a tee with a drain valve.
  • Connect the hot water boiler to the pipes with flexible hoses.
    Do not use a rigid connection between the boiler and the pipeline. Temperature and seasonal deformations of the metal of pipelines and building walls will soon cause failures in the sealing of connections. Instead of flexible hoses, you can use a small U-shaped elbow.
  • Once again carefully checking the tightness of all connections, you can fill the electric boiler with water. To do this, open both shut-off valves. Then, opening the hot water tap on the mixer, wait for a smooth and continuous stream from it.
    Attention! It is strictly forbidden to connect the boiler to the electrical network when the tank is empty: this will cause immediate burnout of the heating element.

Having finished installing the pipelines, you can begin connecting the electrical wiring:

  • Despite the fact that storage-type thermal units have low power consumption, which a standard apartment wiring, it is better to draw a separate line from the electrical panel to the device, connecting it through a personal RCD - residual current device.
  • Very important! Any electric water heaters must have protective grounding, without which to use them categorically forbidden! If a third grounding wire was not provided in the home electrical wiring, a protective grounding can be made. It is performed with a separate cable connected to the electrical panel housing and the input neutral wire. Under no circumstances should you rely on grounding the water pipes: the neighbor below could have already replaced them with polypropylene ones. Also, you should not connect the body of the device to the zero in the socket: with any reconnection in the distribution box, the zero and phase may change, and the device will be under mains voltage.
  • De-energize the power line supplying the device by unplugging the cord from the socket or turning off the circuit breaker on the electrical panel. Only then remove the protective cover from the boiler.
  • Make the electrical connection of the device in accordance with the markings on the terminals under the cover:
    • L - phase.
    • N - zero
  • Protective grounding or grounding is connected to the clamp screw on the device body.
  • Having completed electrical installation, make sure once again that the boiler tank is filled with water, close the protective cap and turn on the power supply. The red light on the device body should light up. Using a test electric screwdriver, make sure there is no voltage on the housing.
  • If the electric boiler is equipped with a dial thermometer, then after some time you can observe an increase in the water temperature.

On this installation work can be considered completed. During operation of the unit, do not forget to monitor the tightness of all connections and the reliability of electrical contacts. If you constantly use the water heater, it is advisable to replace the magnesium anode approximately once a year; this will significantly extend its trouble-free service life.

Very important! When performing any work, it is necessary to comply with general and electrical safety rules. When cutting metal and performing other operations, wear protective gloves or mittens. When drilling concrete walls Wear safety glasses. Perform all electrical installation work on de-energized electrical appliances.

For home handyman Even with a budget bathroom renovation, the skills to install a faucet and the ability to connect an air conditioner are necessary. If you have the skill, then the work of installing an electric water heater will not cause any particular difficulties, the main thing is attentiveness, accuracy and thoroughness at every step. If experience is not enough, it is better to show it to a more experienced and qualified technician before turning on the mounted device.

Since centralized hot water supply to residential buildings is becoming irrelevant, autonomous storage water heaters are coming to replace them. An important advantage of these household appliances is simple installation that does not require special permits. We offer to help you realize this advantage and consider how to properly install and connect a boiler to the water supply of a private house or apartment.

Materials and components

As a rule, storage and instantaneous water heaters are equipped with fastenings - brackets or brackets designed for hanging the unit on the wall. You will have to buy the remaining components and pipeline fittings yourself.

For installation and correct connection electric boiler standard scheme prepare a set of materials:

  • 3 ball valves DN15;
  • 2 American ones of identical diameter;
  • tee Du15;
  • safety valve intended for boilers;
  • metal-plastic pipes (cross-linked polyethylene, corrugated stainless steel or polypropylene are also suitable) with connecting fittings;
  • three-core copper cable VVG with a conductor cross-section of 2.5 mm²;
  • automatic two-pole switch, designed for a current of 20 amperes.

Note. Some manufacturers complete their products with safety valves with rubber gaskets.

This is what the pressure release valve from the tank looks like

If you plan to install the pipe lines to the storage water heater in the wall, it is better to take a pipe made of metal-plastic, stainless steel or cross-linked polyethylene. It is not recommended to lay PPR wiring hidden. Do not forget about the brackets for attaching the pipes to the walls - the connections should not load the boiler pipes with their own weight.

The length of the cable for connecting to the electrical network depends on the distance from the main control panel, from where a separate power supply line will have to be installed. The second connection option is to the nearest electrical outlet box. For the open method, prepare plastic cable ducts or a corrugated sleeve.

At hidden gasket the pipes go straight into the wall

The option for connecting an indirect heating boiler depends on the type of boiler and heating scheme. But you will definitely need pipes with fittings and a low-power circulation pump that develops a pressure of 4 m of water column (0.4 Bar).

Water heater installation

Before connecting the water heater to the electrical network and water supply, the unit should be securely mounted on the wall in convenient location. Let's give some recommendations for placing the boiler:

Reference. IN apartment buildings– in new buildings, a separate room is often provided for the placement of water heating equipment.

Having chosen the location and height for hanging the water heater, mark the mounting points on the wall. The task is made easier by the design of a standard bracket in the form of a strip with slots for hooks, welded to the boiler body. Drill holes 12 cm deep, hammer plastic stoppers and screw in hooks with a diameter of 8 mm. The second fastening option is Ø10 mm anchor bolts. Together with an assistant, lift the heavy unit and hang it by the bracket.

Products of some brands are equipped with special paper templates that facilitate the initial marking of attachment points. There are boilers with separate mounting plate, fixed to the wall with several dowels. The housing is screwed to it with ordinary bolts.

How to connect the device to the water supply network

Electrical or gas boiler provides for the selection of water for domestic hot water needs from the upper zone of the reservoir, where it reaches maximum temperature. Makeup from the cold water supply is carried out to the lower zone. This leads to the following problems with emptying the tank:

  • draining is impossible from the “hot” side - the end of the tube is located too high, so literally 2 liters will flow out of the container;
  • if you connect the pipe directly from the “cold” side, then to empty it you will have to unscrew the American pipe;
  • draining water through the standard valve is inconvenient and time-consuming - the cross-section of the fitting is too small.

The presented boiler connection diagram solves the listed problems and allows you to empty the tank at any time, spending literally 15 minutes. Each element of the harness clearly performs its function:

  1. Ball valves on the main lines serve to isolate the water heater from the water supply and domestic hot water networks.
  2. A tee with a third ball valve on the “cold” side is designed to completely empty the tank.
  3. The safety (also known as non-return) valve discharges excess water, whose volume increases when heated. The second function is to prevent the tank from emptying back into the supply line.
  4. American ones allow you to disconnect the device without disassembling the system.

To correctly assemble the electrical boiler piping, it is enough to connect the pipes according to the diagram and attach them to the wall with clamps. IN last resort American ones are screwed on, a flexible hose is put on the “nose” of the safety valve and directed into the sewer. Installation process storage water heater clearly demonstrated in the video:

After assembly, check the tightness of the joints by opening the cold water supply. Filling the tank is done with the “hot” mixer tap open to release air. After making sure the connections are secure, proceed to electrical installation.

Connection to the house electrical network

The power of the vast majority of water heaters does not exceed 3.5 kW. If the consumption of your household appliance is within the specified limits, feel free to connect the boiler through one equipped with a grounding contact (required!). The work is simple: swipe from distribution box three-core cable using corrugation or plastic box, and place a socket next to the heater.

Exposed wiring and outlet knobs are not popular with all homeowners. To make the electrical connection to the water heater more efficient, follow our instructions:

Plug in the boiler filled with water and check its functionality. Since on budget versions of the devices the heating temperature is regulated directly on the heating element, do not rush to put on the lid. Wait until the water reaches comfortable temperature(look at the index) and turn the adjusting lever at the end of the heating element so that the heating element turns off.

Connecting an indirect heating boiler

The unit is a reservoir with a built-in coil that heats the main volume of water. Accordingly, the heat exchanger is connected to the boiler, and the tank is connected to the hot water supply system. The same safety valve is used to drain excess water that expands when heated.

The easiest way is to connect an indirect heating boiler to a single-circuit boiler equipped with special pipes. Inside the heat generator there is a three-way switching valve that distributes the coolant flow to heating or loading DHW boiler– how the electronic control unit will operate. In this case, the heater coil is simply connected to the corresponding pipes.

Note. It's about about , staffed with its own circulation pump. In floor-standing versions - solid fuel and gas - pumps and three way valves, as a rule, is not provided.

The operation of the pumping unit is controlled by a thermostat built into the boiler (it has a special socket). When water withdrawal begins, the container cools down and the thermoelement starts the pump; when it is heated sufficiently, it stops.

Important point. Connection to a double-circuit boiler is made according to a similar scheme. It is not allowed to “hang” the boiler on the second circuit of the heat generator, operating from a flow-through heat exchanger. How to properly strap in such cases, watch the video from an expert:

Conclusion

You don’t have to read the instructions at all, don’t use any piping fittings, and supply water directly to the electric heater. The unit will function successfully until the first problem or repair of the water supply system, when you have to drain the water from the container. But there is one part that must be installed - a safety check valve. Without it, the expanding water can rupture any weak connections or the tank itself.

How to provide hot water to a home where hot water supply is not provided or is regularly turned off? Using a heater. You can find it on sale convenient devices various designs and productivity.

They are relatively easy to install and manage. The most important stage installation of the device - connecting it to the water supply system of the house. If the connection diagram of the water heater to the water supply is strictly followed, the unit will faithfully serve for many years.

At self-installation With such a complex electrical appliance, a number of important nuances should be taken into account.

Two types of devices are most popular among buyers: storage-type devices, also called boilers, and instantaneous water heaters.

Water boilers: a necessary modern attribute in the bathroom

The first ones function as follows: cold water enters a special tank equipped with a heating element.

There it is heated to the required temperature and then fed into plumbing system. In a flow-through heater, there is no storage tank; the water is heated as it passes through a special flask in which the heating element is located.

Therefore, the procedure for connecting devices to the water supply system different types varies significantly.

Boilers are easier to install, they are usually cheaper than flow-through heaters and are less demanding on the quality of the electrical network than flow-through devices.

Therefore, storage units are much more popular. Flow-through heaters are installed as close as possible to the point of hot water collection, for example, directly on the water tap.

The device allows you to get hot water almost instantly, but heating costs will be quite high.

What should you consider before starting installation?

Good preparation is the key to successful heater installation. It is recommended that you carefully read the manufacturer's instructions first. Special attention focusing on security issues.

Next important point– choosing a place to install the heater. Here are some useful points:

  • The device must be accessible for servicing at all times.
  • To install a wall-mounted model, you should choose a wall that can support double the weight of the device when fully loaded.
  • It is necessary to diagnose the condition of the wiring, correct any identified deficiencies and compare the characteristics with the manufacturer’s requirements.
  • Study the condition of the water supply system: pipes and risers, since the operation of the heater depends not only on the quantity, but also on the quality of the incoming water.

If the location for the heater is chosen correctly, it will be easier to install and maintain.

Tools and materials

The set of tools and materials required to connect the water heater to the water supply system may vary depending on the features of the device.

A novice master can focus on the following approximate list:

  • hammer drill with a set of attachments;
  • wrench and adjustable wrench;
  • straight and Phillips screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • wire cutters;
  • pliers, etc.

You will also need pipes and fittings to connect the heater to the plumbing system. Means of sealing joints are required: flax thread, FUM tape, special paste.

It doesn’t hurt to stock up on a pair of connecting hoses, two or three shut-off valves and the same number of tees in advance.

To connect the boiler to the water supply, you can use special flexible hoses of a suitable size, but not too long

Only fastening elements are usually supplied with the heater, and they are not always suitable for a particular situation.

For example, if you plan to install the device on a wall with a thick finishing layer, you should stock up with sufficiently long fasteners.

Various boiler connection diagrams

To connect the boiler to the water supply, the diagram shown below is usually used:

The diagram shows the procedure for connecting a storage water heater to a conventional water supply system. The location of the taps is indicated, shut-off valve, plum, etc.

The figure shows the conventional location of the risers, which are designated by the words “cold water” and “hot water”. The numbers “1” and “2” indicate conventional shut-off valves.

One of them is opened so that cold water enters the tank, through the other it is heated to desired temperature the liquid is supplied to the hot part of the water supply.

During periods when the storage water heater is not working, it is recommended to turn off these taps.

Under the numbers “3” and “4” there is another pair of taps. These devices are responsible for the flow of water into the apartment from a common riser.

Usually they are available in every apartment, regardless of whether the apartment has a boiler or not. And if tap “3”, through which cold water flows, is turned off only if it is necessary to stop the water supply to the apartment, then tap “4” should be completely turned off while the heater is operating.

If this is not done, the hot water from the boiler will go into the house riser.

Number “5” is the installation location of the check valve. This is very important element water heater connection systems, since it protects equipment from damage.

If the cold water is turned off (which does not happen as rarely as we would like), it is the check valve that will prevent the liquid from leaving the boiler storage tank.

If there is no check valve, water will flow out of the device back into the riser. As a result, the heating elements will run idle, which will lead to their rapid breakdown.

It should be remembered that boiler manufacturers usually include a check valve in the delivery package, so it is necessary to check its availability during the process of purchasing the device.

When connecting a storage heater to the water supply system, shut-off valves are used, with which you can control the flow of water into the tank

The tap, which is marked with the number “6”, is designed to drain water from the water heater tank. This tap is used extremely rarely, for example, if the device needs repairs or is to be dismantled.

In this case, according to technology, the water from the tank must be drained. You should not neglect the installation of this element, since emptying a large tank by other means can be quite labor-intensive.

The drain valve must always be located slightly higher than the check valve, otherwise it will not be possible to remove water from the tank.

Thus, if the storage water heater is working, then taps “1”, “2” and “3” should be open, and tap “4” should be closed. If the boiler is turned off, it is necessary to close taps “1” and “2”, and taps “3” and “4” should be opened.

Detailed information about connecting a storage water heater to the water supply is presented in the following video:

If there is no running water

In many private houses, and even in large cottages, a storage tank is part of the water supply system.

Sometimes this is the only opportunity to provide in the house normal pressure water in pipes. You can also connect a storage water heater to such a system, but a number of nuances should be taken into account: the distance from the tank to the boiler, as well as the pressure in the water supply.

If the space between the water heater and the tank is less than two meters, you can use the following connection diagram to the water supply:

But it also happens that the distance between these devices is more than two meters. In this case, a special safety valve should be installed between the tank and the tap, as shown in the diagram:

If the distance between the tank and the storage water heater exceeds two meters, a safety valve must be included in the connection diagram

If the pressure in the water supply system of the house exceeds 6 bar, experts recommend installing a reducer in front of the water heater, which will reduce the pressure of the water entering the heating tank.

Technical features of connecting the boiler

If a diagram of the correct connection of the boiler to the water supply has been drawn up, it’s time to start implementing it. In this matter, much depends on what pipes were used to create the water supply system.

In old houses you can often find steel pipes, although they are often replaced with more fashionable polypropylene or metal-plastic. When installing a boiler, you should take into account the peculiarities of working with pipes of various types.

There are no special requirements for the material of structures connecting the boiler and water supply system. They can even be connected with a fairly strong hose of suitable diameter and length.

Regardless of the type of pipes, before starting any work on connecting equipment to the water supply, be sure to turn off the water supply in the risers.

How to connect a heater to steel pipes

You don't have to use it for this. welding machine, since the connection can be made using special tees, the so-called “vampires”.

The design of such a tee resembles a regular tightening clamp, on the sides of which there are pipes. Their ends are already threaded.

To install a vampire tee, first install it in a suitable location and tighten it with screws.

Between the metal part of the tee and the pipe, place the gasket that comes with the device. It is important that the gaps in the gasket and the tee intended for mounting the hole match exactly.

Then you need to use a metal drill to make a hole in the pipe through a special gap in the pipe and rubber gasket. After this, a pipe or hose is screwed onto the opening of the pipe, with the help of which water will be supplied to the heater.

To connect a storage water heater to a steel water supply, use a metal coupling with special pipes equipped with threads onto which you can screw a stopcock, hose or piece of pipe

The most important point when connecting a water heater is to seal all connections. To seal the thread, use FUM tape, linen thread or another similar sealant. There should be enough such material, but not too much.

It is believed that if the seal protrudes slightly from under the thread, this will provide a sufficiently tight connection.

Working with polypropylene pipes

If the boiler is supposed to be connected to a polypropylene water supply, you should immediately stock up on stopcocks, tees and couplings designed for them.

In addition, you will need special equipment: a device for cutting such pipes, as well as a device for soldering them.

To connect a boiler to a polypropylene water supply, the following procedure is usually followed:

  1. Shut off the water in the riser (sometimes you need to contact the housing office for this).
  2. Use a cutter to make cuts on polypropylene pipes.
  3. Solder tees at the outlet points.
  4. Connect the pipes intended to connect the boiler to the water supply.
  5. Install couplings and taps.
  6. Connect the boiler to the tap using a hose.

If the water pipes are hidden in the wall, you will have to dismantle the finish to gain free access to them.

It happens that access to pipes laid in grooves is still significantly limited. In this case, you can use a special split-type repair coupling.

The polypropylene side of such a device is soldered onto a tee, and the threaded part is connected to the water supply. After this, the removable part of the coupling is removed from the structure.

To connect a water supply from PVC pipes to a storage water heater, you can use a special adapter, part of which is soldered to the pipe, and a hose can be screwed onto the other part

Connection to metal-plastic structures

Working with metal-plastic pipes is not as difficult as working with products made of polypropylene. Such pipes are very rarely laid in grooves, but are connected with very convenient fittings.

To connect the boiler to such a water supply, you can use the following procedure:

  1. Shut off the water supply to the pipes in the house.
  2. Make a cut at the installation site of the pipe using a special pipe cutter.
  3. Install a tee in the section.
  4. Attach a piece of new metal-plastic pipe or hose, depending on the situation.

After this, all connections should be checked for leaks. To do this, water is supplied to the system and observed to see if a leak appears.

If the connection is not tight enough, the gap must be sealed or the work must be done again.

Features of connecting a flow-through heater

Unlike a storage boiler instantaneous water heater designed to heat the flow of water, and not its static volume.

Therefore, instantaneous heaters are usually smaller in size, and it is much easier to incorporate them into the plumbing system.

A flow-through heater is usually placed closer to the place where hot water is used, so that it does not have time to cool down while passing through the pipes.

The easiest way to install such a device is on a faucet that has a shower outlet. To do this, remove the shower head and connect the heater hose to the freed part of the mixer, through which cold water should flow.

Now instead of a shower in the bathroom there is additional source hot water, which is connected if necessary. The device is easy to dismantle and install again if the need arises.

But this is not always convenient, because using a shower with this installation method is somewhat difficult.

The figure shows options for connecting a flow-through heater to a water supply. You can use the heater in the kitchen or bathroom for showering

Another opportunity to include a flow-through heater into the system is through an outlet designed for a washing machine.

First, a tee is placed on the pipe, which is sealed using FUM tape or flax.

Then install a tap that will allow you to open/close the water flowing to the heater, as well as regulate its flow.

Since with this connection method the tap will have to be used frequently, it is important to place it in a convenient place. After this, the structure is brought from the tap to the flow-through heater.

The most convenient way to do this is with a flexible hose, which is recommended to be secured with special brackets. But you can also use pipes: metal, polypropylene, metal-plastic, etc.
