Shut-off valve for ventilation. Check valve for ventilation types of device installation on the hood. Check valve design for ventilation

Each private or apartment building has a system. The most important function of ventilation is to constantly circulate and supply fresh air, while at the same time removing dust deposits and odors.

Sometimes it happens that instead of a stream of air, a stench from neighbors arrives.

Here you understand that a reverse-acting valve for ventilation devices is a must. In this article, we will consider all the details of the check valve topic.

Valve structure

The axle with blades is the key content of this part. The curtain, under a certain influence of air, passes it only in a certain direction.

In the event of a cessation of air flow, the blades are closed. The valve itself regulates both the flow of air masses and the volume of clean air.

Why do you need a check valve

When developing , be it or, we recommend that you analyze a number of reasons why a check valve should be installed in your room.

  1. Violation of the technology of the location of the exhaust pipes leads to the fact that blown air flows begin to enter.
  2. If there are several hoods in the dwelling. This leads to increased outflow, due to increased traction in one of the hoods.
  3. If we are considering an apartment building, then there is a possibility of the presence of at least one powerful hood, and when it works, the air flows shift, which leads to the appearance of reverse draft in other apartments.
  4. Lack of fresh air supply. Usually happens in case of breakage or clogging.
  5. The presence of heating, due to the stove. In this case, during the operation of the stove, the combustion thrust in the pipe increases, and this, in turn, leads to a reverse flow in the pipe.

How to check ventilation draft

The key question.

It's simple:

The plug should go out if the air flow is correct.

It should also be noted that it is better to provide for the installation of a check valve on and installation. Since its price is insignificant, as well as during the operation of ventilation, clogging, deformation and environmental influences are possible, which in turn will lead to a change in the air flow in the ventilation itself.

That's when you have to buy a valve, take the time and embed it into a working system.

The main classification of check valves for ventilation

Based on materials

Plastic (plastic). These are some of the cheapest and most commercial devices. They are often used in office buildings, houses, cottages. They look very attractive, and thanks to the rich color palette of the material, any design can be brought to life.

Cink Steel... Widespread in industry and administrative buildings. These models are very durable, this allows them to cope with their task for a long time and with high quality. Valves made of steel do not have such a disadvantage as fire safety, since steel does not burn, unlike plastic.

Combination of materials... The body of the device is made of zinc-plated steel, and the shutter or blades are made of plastic. It is widely used in rooms with natural ventilation. This valve reacts even to small wind movements, providing a high-quality and natural air exchange.

By form

  1. Round.
  2. Rectangular.

It all depends, of course, on the shape of the duct. It should be noted that for round valves intended for household use they are produced with a diameter of 100 - 200 mm. - these are the most common sizes. And for industrial systems it is possible to issue 150 - 1000 mm.

Moreover, for everyday life there are mainly round valves, and for industry, rectangular ones.

From installation method

  1. Vertically arranged.
  2. Horizontally located.

By regulation method

  1. Manual - using latches and levers.
  2. Automatic - occurs automatically, since it is a complex of supply and exhaust ventilation devices that function as a whole.

By design

Now let's look at the most important classification.

Petal valve

The valve is one-leaf gravitational action. Air, moving from the room, acts on the leaf, fixed on the axis of the valve body. Under the influence of this force, the sash opens. In the event of a reverse thrust, the sash will close on its own under the force of gravity.

The presence of one sash makes the design simple and reliable.

When installing this type of valve, a level should be used, since it should only be mounted in a vertical or horizontal position.

This design has two versions:

  1. Models where the axis is offset from the center. And usually it is located in the middle.
  2. The use of counterweights that are located on the outside or inside of the device.

Butterfly valve or double-leaf valve using springs

In structure, it is similar to a petal valve, only it has two petals located on the same axis. Hence the resemblance to an insect, from which it got its name.

They are usually used in forced ventilation systems.

That is, when the ventilation is turned on, the blades open, and when turned off, they close with the installed springs. Such a device can even be positioned at an angle. Check the sensitivity of the curtains before purchasing. Recently, the sensitivity adjustment is done according to the force of the compression of the springs.

Gravity grid valve

In appearance, they resemble blinds, which can be positioned both vertically and horizontally. When you turn on the ventilation, the air opens and begins to flow, as soon as you turn it off, the blinds close.

Most often placed in walls for protection. The main advantage of these types of valves is their use at subzero temperatures in outdoor conditions.

Flexible Diaphragm Valves

The principle of operation is also similar to that of a petal valve. A thin flexible plate is used only as a curtain, which, when closed, fits snugly around the perimeter.

They are installed mainly in rooms with natural ventilation, since the membrane is very sensitive. The disadvantage is that the diaphragm will deform with excessive reverse thrust.

How to make a check valve for ventilation with your own hands?

It should be borne in mind that the cost of standard check valves is not high, and there is no point in making the valve yourself.

And if the ventilation boxes are non-standard, then you should think about how to make a check valve for ventilation with your own hands.

The simplest mechanism that you can make yourself is a petal or diaphragm valve.

Instead of a curtain, you should choose a rigid plate of metal or plastic. To prevent the passage of air flow, the curtain should fit as tightly as possible to the edges of the case. And also the curtain should be firmly fixed in order to exclude sounds and friction.

A grill should be installed on the ventilation hole so that the membrane does not deform. That's all the structure is ready for use.

How to install a non-return valve for ventilation?

First, you need to decide on the number of valves that we will install.

If the air intake system is simple

So, if you have the only place for air intake, and it enters the mine further, then you can prevent reverse draft with the help of one valve in this system.

If the air intake system is complex

If ventilation is complex and involves several ventilation openings, then a rule should be applied that regulates the number and location of non-return valves.

  • First, the valve is installed on any branch. which connects the air intake and the main line. This is necessary so that the air flows are not redirected towards the hood at the moment when it is turned off.
  • Second. The check valve should be installed at the outlet of the system. ventilation. Many will say that this should not be done during the complete sealing of the system, but experience and practice show that the presence of a valve in such places is mandatory.

The check valve should be installed in easily accessible places so that it can be quickly and conveniently serviced and cleaned.

Recently, manufacturers of fans and hoods have already provided check valves in their designs. As a result, the installation of additional valves is impractical.

Installation of a non-return valve from the street

simple, we buy a valve taking into account the shape and size of the hole, apply it and mark the places for drilling. We drill, apply and secure, having previously missed the edges of the valve.

It should be noted that for the streets, it is best to buy valves with metal elements. If suddenly ice forms on them, they can be easily cleaned mechanically, and the plastic is likely to break.

Indoor installation of a non-return valve

If you are installing a slip-on check valve in front of the indoor fan, the process is similar to the one described above.

And if you need to install a check valve inside the ventilation shaft, then you will need to dismantle the ventilation device.

  1. We mount the non-return valve inside the ventilation chamber housing and markup for the mountings.
  2. Then we take out the case itself and drill holes in the marked places.
  3. After that, we put the body in place and mark the holes on the brick or concrete walls of the well.
  4. We drill holes in the concrete with a bolt.
  5. After we install the dowels, and put the whole structure together, we carefully fasten everything together, we make sure that there are no gaps between the valve and the body.
  6. If gaps are present, then they should be treated with silicone.
  7. Then we install the fan.

Now you do not have to worry about the penetration of unwanted odors into your room.

Finally, I would like to say that at the moment there is a huge selection of models, shapes and sizes of check valves for ventilation on the market.

But it is worth remembering that you should buy from bona fide manufacturers and then you will receive a device with the appropriate properties and quality assurance.

Check valve selection rules

It should also be remembered that if you approach the selection of a check valve in bad faith, this can lead to poor air exchange.

And in order to prevent this from happening, a number of rules should be followed when choosing this device:

  1. The dimensions of the check valve must match the dimensions of the fan. And the power of the fan should be enough to create a flow that will ensure the opening of the petals without any problems.
  2. Some devices are for indoor use only. This should be taken into account when choosing a valve model.
  3. The best combination is non-return valve + exhaust fan + ventilation grill. This combination will provide maximum air exchange efficiency.

As you can see, the ventilation check valve plays an important role in ensuring a comfortable climate in any room.

When using complex ventilation systems, it is important to correctly place check valves to block air return.

Then the combination of hoods and fans will work flawlessly. Indeed, the service life and the quality of ventilation as a whole depend on the correct installation of these devices.

A very often used type of ventilation does not fulfill its main function, and air outflow is extremely inefficient, returning part of the air from the ventilation duct back to the dwelling. This is especially felt in such targeted areas as a bathroom and a kitchen. To eliminate such a significant drawback, it is recommended to install a non-return valve for ventilation.

Purpose and types of exhaust valves

As a rule, such devices are simple in design, but, despite this, they perform a very important function - they prevent the penetration of exhaust air back into the room. The reasons why this sometimes happens can be different. The most common of them is a violation of the tightness of the ventilation ducts or their clogging. If complaints to the relevant authorities have not yielded results, you can solve the problem yourself by installing a check valve for ventilation.

There are two types of devices:

  • with vertical installation;
  • with horizontal installation.

In this case, it is necessary to take into account the design of the ventilation system. If the air duct has a vertical arrangement, then the air flow in it must certainly move vertically as well. Accordingly, the installation of the check valve for ventilation in this case is carried out in a horizontal position. Thus, the correct operation of the blades is ensured.

Valves are also distinguished by the type of material and by the section. There are round and rectangular valves. The material used has its own characteristics, therefore, in some systems, a plastic check valve is used for ventilation, in others - a metal one.

The defining parameter for these devices is bandwidth. It means that different models are designed for different air flow rates.

The most in demand today is a plastic check valve for ventilation with a throughput of 4-6 m / s, which is explained by the absence of a noise effect when opening and closing the blades. These devices can operate both independently and from an exhaust fan.

Design features of various types of valves

The air check valve for ventilation is designed as simply as possible: the blade is fixed on the axle, which provides freedom of movement. A special plumb line is installed as a counterweight, which stops the operation of the valve when the supply fan is turned off. Such devices represent a general-purpose category and are found in square as well as round sections. They are designed for fairly large duct sizes. Holes are provided for fastening.

If a 100 mm industrial ventilation check valve is required, it is recommended to select a model from the explosion-proof category.

Due to the peculiarities of the special design, this type is installed in explosive production areas. The size range includes a wide range of models, including a 125 mm ventilation check valve as well as 1,000 mm. Such devices are made with round and rectangular sections.

A very common model is called the "Butterfly". These valves are made of galvanized steel and have two blades, which are mounted on an axle located in the center of the cross-section. When the exhaust fan is turned off, the blades are closed. As you can see, this principle is used in almost all devices of this kind. Butterfly check valve for ventilation is presented in a small number of versions. The size range starts from 100 mm and ends with a value of 315 mm.

There is also an upgraded model “Butterfly”, which is equipped with a rubber seal, which significantly reduces the noise effect from the movement of the blades. A check valve for household flap type ventilation (or louvers) is very common. Its design implies the presence of several horizontally located blades. Such devices are often used in apartments where the ventilation system needs to be improved.

What to look for when choosing

When choosing a check valve for natural ventilation, you should take into account the air flow rate so that the blades succumb to the pressure of even a barely noticeable blow of wind. Weak draft is the main problem when arranging natural ventilation. Therefore, such a device is mounted complete with an exhaust fan. In order to increase the attractiveness of the room, a decorative grille is installed at the entrance of the ventilation duct.

The efficiency of the check valve also depends on the correct fan.

If the exhaust device does not provide sufficient draft, then the check valve will simply act as a damper in the duct. The fan power is selected taking into account the volume of the room. If this is a kitchen, then the coefficient value is taken for the calculation, equal to 10, for the bathroom - 7.

When choosing a check valve, attention is paid to the ambient temperature in a given area, as well as to the rate of blockage formation, which can be directly related to the regular exposure to wind in open areas of the area. If these parameters are taken into account, then it is possible in this way to somewhat extend the juice of the ventilation system. For example, the butterfly design is exposed to low temperatures, which can lead to icing on the mechanism. With regard to blockages, this factor will negatively affect almost any valve design.

Choosing a check valve for ventilation, the price is not the last parameter that is taken into account. The cost consists of a number of parameters, including:

  • section type;
  • valve dimensions;
  • used material;
  • design;
  • special purpose;
  • manufacturer's brand.

The price of check valves ranges from 300 to 3,500 rubles. The most expensive models are equipped with an exhaust fan. Given a number of features, the choice of such a device should be taken very seriously. In addition to the efficiency of air circulation, the absence / presence of foreign odors in the room will depend on how correctly the valve and the exhaust fan are selected.

However, such valves allow not only to protect themselves from the penetration of odors from the outside, but also provide a high-quality outflow of polluted air from the room. It is known that a poorly organized ventilation system, along with a depressurized air duct, can be a serious problem for organizing fresh air access. Therefore, you should think over all the details, up to the size of the mesh of the decorative lattice, since this element, albeit indirectly, still participates in the process of air exchange.

A non-return valve for ventilation is necessary for the efficient operation of the ventilation system. It eliminates the possibility of turning the air flow in the hood, thereby ensuring the flow of exceptionally fresh air into the dwelling.

Quite often, an apartment building starts to function ineffectively. It is not difficult to notice this by the appearance of unpleasant odors in the home. Similar situations arise due to the fact that a reverse draft is formed in the ventilation system. This is understood as the phenomenon of returning part of the air from the ventilation duct to the living quarters.

Backward thrust can be formed for the following reasons:

  1. Incorrect installation of the chimney on the roof.
  2. A small amount of supply air entering the natural ventilation system.
  3. In one of the apartments of the high-rise buildings, a powerful forced draft was installed, which led to disruptions in the operation of the general ventilation system.

Powerful forced draft

Most often, problems with natural ventilation occur when the check valve fails. This device is arranged very simply. Its main structural element is the shutter. It can only be opened by air flow in one direction. And when the movement of air changes its direction, the shutter slams. Due to this, the reverse thrust is stopped. The shutter for devices operating in natural ventilation systems is made in the form of a slam or disc. Such devices can have different sizes and configurations (rectangular, round) sections.

The non-return valve can also be heated and run unheated. The first type of devices is installed on ventilation systems equipped with an electric drive. Heated valves eliminate the risk of condensation in the ventilation and the formation of ice on its inner parts during extreme cold weather. The key parameter of the described devices is their throughput potential. To ensure effective ventilation of a dwelling of a standard area, the value of the latter should be at the level of 4–6 m / s.

Backdraft prevention devices are made of plastic and metal. Metal devices are considered to be more durable. But during operation, they make rather loud sounds (pops), condensation often settles on such valves. Among other things, they are susceptible to rusting. For these reasons, many now decide to purchase a plastic check valve. It is virtually silent and inexpensive. True, its service life is much lower in comparison with metal products. We add that the devices of interest to us not only prevent back draft, but also prevent dust and small insects from entering the ventilation.

The devices described in the article are of four types according to their structure - membrane, single-leaf, such as blinds and a butterfly. Diaphragm valves are equipped with a flexible flap. It reacts to the smallest air movements, so such devices are considered the most sensitive. The one-piece check valve is designed as a flap. It is fixed on the horizontal axis. The air flow turns the damper, due to which the natural ventilation passage is closed and opened.

Blinds type mechanisms have 2-4 horizontal axes on which a row of blades is installed. Such devices are often referred to as gravity and lobe valves. Butterfly mechanisms are also quite widespread. They are usually made of metal and installed on ventilation systems equipped with an electric fan. Butterflies have two flaps located on either side of one axis. The disadvantage of such valves is high operating noise. It can be reduced by mounting the sealing elements on the butterfly blade.

Butterfly type ventilation check valve

When choosing a check valve for ventilation, you need to pay attention to the material from which it is made, its structure, shape and cross-sectional diameter. It is important to remember that in a residential area such a mechanism must respond to air currents of insignificant intensity. In this regard, experts advise supplementing the valve with an exhaust hood (that is, a special fan) when arranging natural ventilation. On the wall, such structures do not look very nice. But it doesn't matter. You can always cover the installation site of the hood and valve with an elegant ventilation grill.

Note! Butterfly mechanisms in temperate latitudes are covered with ice much more often and faster than conventional single-leaf products.

One more nuance. If you purchase ready-made kits for natural ventilation of the home (valve plus fan), you should pay special attention to the value of the exhaust power. Everything is simple here. For bathrooms, you should buy kits with a power factor of 7, and for kitchens - with an indicator of 10.

The zealous owners can save the family budget. If you wish, it is quite possible to make a ventilation valve yourself. However, you still have to buy an exhaust fan. But all the same, the costs will be lower.

With your own hands, the described valve is done like this:

  1. Take a 3-5 mm thick piece of textolite or durable plastic. Cut a plate out of it. It must have geometric dimensions that correspond to the parameters of the ventilation hole. The plate will serve as the basis for a homemade device.
  2. Drill several holes in the manufactured product (along the edges). Some of them are needed for fixing the base to the wall surface, some for fixing the fan. Also, holes need to be made in the center of the plate. A stream of air will enter the room through them. The size of the holes and their total number are selected at your discretion. The main thing to remember is that the ventilation potential will be the higher, the more "holes" you drill in the plate.
  3. Attach a hood to a plastic or textolite base made by hand. It is advisable to put a rubber gasket at the site of its joint with the plate. Then the tightness of the structure will increase significantly. You can also place pieces of rubber underneath the fasteners to reduce vibration and noise from the fan during operation.
  4. Take a sheet of thin plastic or dense (over 0.1 mm thick) polyethylene film. They are needed to create flaps. Glue the film (plastic) to the plate. Important! Homemade sashes are required to close the ventilation holes completely. Initially glue the plastic or polyethylene in one piece. And then divide them into two parts (they should be the same in size).

Making a check valve with your own hands

Now you need to put a self-made valve in the ventilation duct and securely attach it with dowel nails or to the wall. The gaps formed between the wall surface and the installed mechanism must be sealed with a good sealant. The next step is to cut the leaves in half. How to do it correctly, we said above. We will only add that the cut should turn out to be flawlessly even. This is easy to achieve if you use a sharp assembly knife to separate.

That's all. You've made an excellent natural ventilation diaphragm valve that is as efficient as factory fittings. It is guaranteed to serve you 2-3 years. The principle of operation of a homemade device is simple. The flaps open under the influence of the flow, letting air from the living space into the ventilation duct. If there is a reverse thrust, the film collapses (and absolutely hermetically). This means that air does not get inside your home from the general ventilation system. If you need forced ventilation of the room, you just need to start the exhaust fan.

Often, the ventilation system works ineffectively and part of the air enters from the ventilation duct back into the apartment. The effect of reverse draft of ventilation is especially noticeable in kitchens or in bathrooms of apartments. Check valves will help fight unpleasant odors.

The principle of operation of the ventilation check valve

Non-return valves in ventilation are called a group of protective devices to prevent the rotation of the air flow in exhaust ventilation systems or simply reverse ventilation in apartments. The valve allows air to flow in the desired direction, inhibiting reverse movement. Check valves for exhaust ventilation work automatically and this is the main plus of their use. In ventilation systems of residential and public buildings, check valves are used to prevent air from entering the common ventilation duct into separate rooms.

Exhaust ventilation check valves operate in natural and mechanical draft systems. The valve prevents insects and dust from entering the household ventilation.

Drafts may occur if the system is not fitted with a non-return valve.

Types of ventilation check valves

The main structural part of any check valve for natural ventilation is the shutter. It is he who does not allow air to pass in an undesirable direction.

There are two types of round and rectangular check valves for ventilation:

  • with a slide valve;
  • with a shutter in the form of a disc or flaps.

The first ones are used to work with liquid media. The latter are designed specifically for ventilation. They come with a horizontal or vertical axis of rotation, as well as single-leaf and double-leaf.

There are rectangular and round check valves for ventilation with different cross-sectional diameters.

The main parameter when choosing a check valve is its capacity.

Natural ventilation check valves are easy to manufacture and very reliable.

They are made of plastic or metal, the material is selected depending on the features of the system. In vertical pipelines, the air flow moves vertically, so the valve is mounted horizontally to ensure correct operation of the valve.

The most commonly used round and rectangular check ventilation valves with a capacity of 4 to 6 m / s. They work quietly and efficiently. They are installed both independently and complete with an exhaust device.

All check valves for rectangular or round ventilation are also divided into:

  • Heated. Such check valves for ventilation with an electric drive have the advantage: condensation does not collect in the system, and the structure will not be covered with ice in severe frosts;
  • Without heating. Good for indoor use only.

The presence of an electric drive at the check valve for ventilation requires the participation of an electrician in its connection.

Although the device is cheap, the ventilation check valve can be assembled with your own hands, but more on that later.

Check valve design for ventilation

The check valve design is very simple: the flapper disc is attached to an axle, allowing it to swing freely. A plumb line is attached to cover the valve when the fan stops. Ventilation valves can be rectangular, round or square.

Industrial models differ from check valves for domestic ventilation in diameter and material, they are classified in the explosion-proof category, although the device is the same.

The diameter of a round or rectangular check valve for industrial type ventilation can be from 125 to 1000 mm, they are installed in explosion-hazardous industries.

The double blade butterfly valve is widely used.

Butterfly devices are made more often of metal, the axis for attaching the blades is installed in the middle of the section. As soon as the fan stops, the blades cover the section and the reverse draft of ventilation in the apartment stops. The diameters of the butterfly valves range from 100 to 315 mm.

The improved version of the "butterfly" is equipped with seals that reduce the noise during the operation of the blades.

It is very often used for ventilation in the kitchen a check valve in the form of shutters or petals (inertial grille). There are several blades in the structure, they are located on the horizontal axes.

How to choose a check valve

When purchasing a check valve for kitchen ventilation or in a bathroom, you need to take into account the speed of air movement, because the shutter must respond to even the slightest flow. Poor traction in the system is the main problem when organizing a natural ventilation system. Therefore, most owners combine a valve with an exhaust fan. To cover the structure from the side of the room, a beautiful ventilation grill is installed.

But for the natural ventilation system to work flawlessly, it is important to choose the right check valve. Otherwise, reverse draft in the ventilation of an apartment building will continue to poison the existence of residents.

Pay attention to:

  • sectional shape;
  • section diameter;
  • valve material;
  • valve device;
  • valve purpose;
  • the manufacturer (it affects more the price than the quality of the simplest mechanism).

You can purchase a ready-made kit of a fan and a check valve. Here it is necessary to pay attention to the fan power. For the kitchen, it will be suitable with a coefficient of 10, and for the bathroom and toilet, 7 will be enough.

When purchasing a check valve for household ventilation of a private house, it is important to take into account the climatic conditions. For example, a “butterfly” will be covered with ice more quickly than a uniaxial structure. In private houses, in contrast to apartment buildings, the tenants are annoyed not by the reverse draft in the apartment, but by blowing wind into the ventilation and the penetration of rodents into it.

Diy check valve for ventilation

Do-it-yourself installation of a ventilation check valve is especially relevant for residents of the last floors of houses, where the problem of tightening "foreign" odors through the air ducts of the general exchange system is common.

We offer an improved version of the motorized ventilation check valve with a fan.

For the base of the check valve for kitchen ventilation, thick plastic or textolite is suitable. You will need a plate overlapping the outlet of the exhaust duct and no more than 4 mm thick. Markings are made on the plate: a grille the size of a fan hole, as well as holes for fastening to the wall (in the corners) and for attaching the fan.

The larger the mesh of the lattice, the denser the material for the sashes should be!

To prevent air from "walking" between the base and the fan, a rubber gasket is used.

To prevent not only back draft in the ventilation of the apartment of an apartment building, but also the penetration of insects, a small plastic mesh or even nylon from tights is attached to the base grill. The latter is easily replaced. And so that the residents are not disturbed by the vibration from the fan motor, rubber shock absorbers are used during installation.

Sashes are used from thick polyethylene (not less than 0.1mm). The film should be perfectly smooth, the smallest waviness will break the tightness of the ventilation, and the reverse draft in the apartment of the apartment building will resume. The sash can be fixed on tape with a fabric base. Detailed instructions for making flaps for a plastic ventilation check valve in the video:

We recommend cutting the flaps in place, from an already glued piece of film. Moreover, if it is slightly wrinkled during operation, it must be changed. Two flaps are cut together only at the very end of the process. You need to cut with a sharp construction blade.

To avoid a gap between the homemade plastic ventilation check valve and the wall, use self-adhesive foam tape.

During operation, it is necessary to periodically clean or change the plastic mesh clogged with dust.

If made correctly, such a homemade plastic check valve for ventilation will last for more than one year. And the tenants of the apartment will get rid of the back draft typical for the ventilation of apartment buildings for a long time.

Modern technologies make our home more and more airtight. Reinforced plastic windows, laminated surfaces and stretch ceilings impede natural ventilation, which leads to dampness and mold in houses. Households suddenly begin to suffer from allergies and frequent respiratory diseases - this is also a side effect of completely sealing the house. Stagnant air is replete with allergens, pathogenic bacteria and microorganisms actively multiply in it. That is why it is important to install a supply valve in the wall, which will provide access to outside air into the room and at the same time prevent the appearance of drafts.

The supply valve is a simple device for ventilation

The main purpose of the supply unit is to provide fresh air access to the room. Under the condition of normal operation, the supply unit allows an average of up to thirty cubic meters of air per hour into the room, which corresponds to the physiological needs of one person.

The device consists of several elements:

  • Duct tube. Usually this part of the device is made of plastic.
  • Grille (metal or plastic) to protect the outside of the duct.
  • Inner insert with cap and air filter.

Some devices are additionally equipped with a noise isolator and. These additional elements prevent the supply ventilation valve in the wall from freezing in severe frosts and block street noises.

The hygro control system automatically opens the valve if the room exceeds the standard humidity values.

The supply and exhaust valve can also be additionally equipped with:

  • fan;
  • temperature sensors;
  • air recovery system;
  • remote control.

Advantages and disadvantages of a wall inlet valve

Like any device, the ventilator has its own undoubted advantages and disadvantages, which must be mentioned. First, about the good:

  • With the use of the device, the need for constant opening and closing of windows is significantly reduced. This saves time and saves window mechanisms.
  • The device acts as a noise isolator and filters the air from toxic urban impurities.
  • The device has regulation functions, it can be adjusted to the needs of a particular home.
  • Installation of the ventilator in the area of operation of heating devices significantly saves heat loss.
  • The device has a small size, is practically invisible on the wall and does not interfere with the placement of furniture.
  • The device has a relatively low price, is easy to assemble and can be manufactured and installed on your own.

Useful information! Installing the supply unit in the area of the battery will lead to the fact that the cool air from the street will be heated by the heat of the radiator when it enters the room. The second option for installing the device is in the upper part of the wall, where the incoming air masses will mix with the heated air of the room.

Cons of using the device:

  • To install a ventilation valve, a hole must be made in the wall, that is, in some way, its integrity must be violated.
  • Incorrect installation of the device can cause freezing of the wall.
  • In northern regions, in winter, the ventilator can cause the room temperature to drop to uncomfortable values for humans.

Types of ventilators

Supply devices differ in the following parameters:

  • the presence of air flow regulation (mechanical or automatic);
  • the presence of a sound insulator and insulation;
  • the presence of additional elements;
  • the possibility of complete insulation of the duct;
  • in size and appearance.

Air exchanger selection

Before buying a wall-mounted supply valve, you need to check it for compliance with some important criteria:

  • The device should not be too cheap, a high-quality device equipped with the required number of functions costs at least a third of the average cost of a metal-plastic window.
  • The valve must be installed directly into the window frame or into the wall next to the window. It is important to check the possibility of such an installation.
  • It is necessary to decide on the type of ventilator control - mechanical or automatic. The automatic machine will greatly simplify the need to control the optimal temperature and humidity in the house.
  • Attention should be paid to the level of noise protection of the device.
  • The ability of the valve to withstand the temperature regime of the region.

Prices and popular models

Ventilation devices with a minimum set of functions are relatively inexpensive. The simplest model can be purchased for five hundred to eight hundred rubles. But the most effective are models in the price range of two to four thousand rubles.

Features of air duct installation

Before installing the valve, you must decide on its location. The best place for this purpose is considered to be a place near a heating radiator on a load-bearing wall.

  • Step 1. Drilling a hole to install the air exchanger. The bore diameter should be slightly larger than the valve tube. This will allow the device to be correctly positioned and securely fixed in the wall.
  • Step 2. Outside on the wall in the area where the device is located, it is necessary to provide protection from rain. If it is not possible to do this (the valve outlet will be located in a place inaccessible for work), the hole must be made with a slight slope towards the street. This prevents raindrops from entering the appliance.
  • Step 3. Install the supply valve into the wall and fix it with construction foam.

How to make an inlet valve into the wall with your own hands

To make a simple device you will need:

The plastic pipe will be an air duct, the piece should correspond to the thickness of the wall (a small margin can be provided). The optimal tube diameter is 10 - 12 centimeters.

  • A grid is fixed on one side of the tube; this will be the outer part of the device.
  • A rolled-up insulation (mineral wool, expanded polystyrene) is inserted inside the tube. For this purpose, you can use pipe insulation. The thickness of the layer should be about two centimeters, this is enough to prevent freezing.
  • Next, a foam filter is inserted into the tube.
  • The last step is to install the valve. You can make it yourself or purchase a finished product at any ventilation equipment store.
