How to make an iron fence. Installing a metal fence with your own hands How to make a metal fence with your own hands

The desire of man to fence his home has existed since ancient times. Rare man, who has his own territories, does not want to erect a fence. Surely you too, having built or purchased your new house, first of all, you think about how to isolate him from others. It is not necessary to hide your home, garden, or vegetable garden from prying eyes. You can, on the contrary, put your beauty on display. A transparent, durable fence will help you with this.

Metal fence- This modern look fencing, which is easy to install and wear-resistant during use.

Humble people will be able to keep peace of mind using a solid two-meter fence. One of the types of fencing that is more resistant to natural influences is a metal fence. We will talk about it, its varieties and methods of construction in this article.

Types of metal fence

Before building a fence, you need to decide on the material and method of construction.

You need to understand what you want to see in the end result. The most popular types of metal fence include:

Chain-link fences are in great demand in gardens due to their low cost and speed of installation.

Chain-link fence is a frequent visitor summer cottages, gardens, vegetable gardens and country houses. This grid is named after its inventor. It is made from steel wire on special automatic machines or manually. To avoid rusting, it is coated on top with zinc, paint, or polymer coatings are used. Sometimes the chain-link mesh is made from stainless wire. Depending on its diameter and cell size, the strength of the mesh varies. The larger the diameter and the smaller the mesh, the stronger the chain-link. The mesh is usually sold in rolls 1.5 m high and 10 m long. It is possible to order the chain link from the manufacturer in other sizes.

A fence made from such a mesh is transparent, lightweight, durable, and does not block the beauty of your site from prying eyes. Often used as a support for climbing plants.

A fence made of profiled sheets occupies a leading position. A corrugated sheet is a steel sheet coated with zinc or polymer, having a sinusoidal or trapezoidal corrugation. The material is highly reliable and durable due to its wavy structure. A fence made of profiled sheets is resistant to weather changes. The color remains bright throughout the entire period of use. It is endowed with excellent fire-fighting qualities, convenience and ease of installation. For fences, wall profiled sheets are used. This includes the following markings: S-8, S-10, S-14, S-15, S-20, S-18. The number corresponds to the height of the wave. This type of fencing is used both in residential areas and for fencing industrial areas.

A welded fence fits perfectly into the architecture of any site, complementing it with its individuality.

We build a welded fence using rolled metal. Typically, a 20 by 20 profile pipe is used for its manufacture. A metal fence of this type will always be appreciated for its advantages. This is not only protection, but also decoration of your home. Welded fences can include not only a profile pipe, but also all kinds of forged elements, which nowadays can be easily purchased at reasonable prices. In addition to the private sector, such a fence is being erected near government institutions, schools, and kindergartens.

Recently, metal picket fences have become in demand. He does a great job protective function. Its tips usually have a sharp shape, and the rods are located close to each other and do not make it possible for outsiders to get into your territory. This type of picket fence is durable, practical, and inexpensive to construct. Typically used for landscaping.

Methods for installing supports

There are several proven ways to build a high-quality fence around your territory. Before installing the supports, determine the distance between them. It should be 2.5-3 meters or correspond to the dimensions of the finished section (welded fence).

  1. Screw piles. The great advantage of this type is the possibility of installation on any soil, on various terrain (even on slopes), at any time of year and weather. Installation screw piles does not require additional investments. Piles can be moved from one place to another without damaging their condition. They can even withstand heavy fences. The posts are screwed in manually or using special equipment.
  2. Concreting pillars. Using a drill, holes are drilled in the ground to a depth of 1 m to 1.5 m. Afterwards, medium and small crushed stone is poured into the bottom of the dug hole in a layer of 0.25 m. Next, a profiled pipe is installed and leveled by level or plumb. To obtain stability, pieces of reinforcement are welded perpendicularly to the bottom of the pillars. The lower part of the pipe must be treated to prevent rusting. First, the pillars are installed in the corners, then a cord is stretched between them, and the rest of the supports are placed along it. Aligned and installed pipes filled with concrete or cement mortar in a ratio of 1/8. For control, they are checked again with a string and a level, because after the solution has hardened, it will be difficult to correct the defects. To build a high-quality metal fence, its supports need to stand for several days.
  3. Strip foundation. Most often used on moving soils. First, a trench is dug along the entire perimeter of the site, 0.25 m wide and 0.50 m deep. For a metal fence there is no need to make a deeper foundation. A small cushion of sand is poured onto the bottom of the trench and spilled with water. The entire foundation is tied around the perimeter with reinforcement. It should not touch the bottom and walls of the trench; for this purpose, pieces of brick are placed under the reinforcement. The height of the foundation above the ground is 0.20-0.25 m. To do this, before pouring, it is necessary to install formwork of the required size. In order for the foundation to gain the required strength, it needs to stand for 7-10 days before completely dry. The strip foundation will not only hold your fence firmly, but will also keep your pets safe and sound, who will not have the opportunity to sneak under the fence for walks around the neighborhood.

The installed supports are primed and painted to avoid corrosion and give them an aesthetic appearance. From above, the pillars are closed from precipitation with special plugs or welded with pieces of metal.

Installation of a metal fence

After choosing the type of metal fence and the method of installing the supports, we move on to the most beautiful part of erecting the fence - directly hanging it. In order to hang the welded sections on the fence, it is necessary to attach metal rods to the support in two or three places by welding. The welded sections are welded directly to these rods.

In order to ensure that, metal corners are welded to the supports. It is necessary to lay and weld logs on them that connect the pillars to each other. Profiled sheets will subsequently be screwed onto them using special screws. The corrugated sheets are screwed starting from the gate, aligning them along a stretched cord or measuring each sheet by level. It is better to choose self-tapping screws that match the color of your fence. There is a possibility of mounting metal sheets using special rivets.

To tension the chain-link mesh to the supports, you need to screw or weld the hooks. The mesh is tied to them using wire threaded into the meshes of the chain-link.

The metal picket fence is screwed to the joists using self-tapping screws at a distance of 4-7 cm.

Whatever type of metal fence you choose, know that when the right approach it will reliably protect your territory and delight you for many years.

DIY metal fence installation

Behind Lately metal fencing has become more popular and in demand. Metal products are first in terms of availability, durability, practicality and fire safety.

According to the experience of previous decades, the most affordable and applicable type of protection local area there was a wooden fence that quickly deteriorated under the influence of weather conditions and needed careful maintenance. Another way to isolate yourself was and remains buildings made of stone, brick and concrete, but they are very expensive, have large dimensions and require a lot of effort during construction.

Advantages and disadvantages metal fencing

Advantages of metal products:

  • Fences made from this material are created reliable protection land plot without separating it from the surrounding world.
  • Metal fences do not require complex maintenance - only painting as necessary.
  • The manufacturing material is steel or cast iron, so the fences are very durable and reliable.
  • There is a huge selection of design samples for building attractive and high-quality fences.
  • Manufacturing metal structures carried out taking into account all necessary standards and norms.
  • Metal fences with a certain coating have very high performance properties: they are not afraid of precipitation, rust, wind, or damage.
  • At the customer's request, enterprises can produce monolithic fences and through fences from steel sections. Sectional fences are characterized by increased rigidity and strength.
  • The metal elements of the fence are in perfect harmony with the pillars made of different materials– bricks, natural stone, concrete, etc.
  • Fences made of metal sheets create reliable protection from the intrusion of offenders and the gaze of the curious.
  • They also provide excellent protection from the wind, and with a height of 3 meters they create good sound insulation.
  • Metal fences can be used for fencing not only residential buildings, but also economic, construction, and domestic buildings.

Disadvantages of metal structures:

  • The biggest disadvantage of metal fencing is its cost. It is naturally lower than for brick products, but still higher than for wooden fences.
  • Also to negative point weight also applies metal product. Because of it, there may be difficulties during transportation and difficulties during installation or dismantling.
  • If the anti-corrosion coating has deteriorated, the fence will quickly begin to rust. And the more humid the climate, the faster this process will occur.
  • You also need to monitor the quality of the purchased material: if you purchase a profile that is too thin, you will hear quite unpleasant sounds when there are gusts of wind.

Types of metal fences

Metal structures are different:

Wrought iron fence

This is simply a real work of art. Masters of decorative forging create it by hand. This is hard and painstaking work, as a result of which it is not cheap. Forged metal fences go well with any metal, brick or stone.

Chainlink fences

They are advantageous in that they allow sunlight to reach the plants and are extremely easy to install and repair. But structures made from this mesh also have certain disadvantages: absolute openness, ease of breaking the integrity with wire cutters, and rodents crawling into the area.

Fences made of corrugated sheets

The best option for those who want to have reliable protection for their home and not worry about the endless maintenance of the fence itself. Their advantage is also that at a height of 3 meters they create good sound insulation. If enhanced noise protection is needed, you can use a double corrugated sheet with sound-neutralizing material.

Structures made from corrugated sheets are easy to repair and can be washed with a hose. There is a huge selection of colors. These fences are easy to install, but quite expensive.

Welded mesh fencing

Also in wide demand. Fence sections are made from steel wire, the edges of which are welded to a durable pipe frame.

The wire in the frame can be placed at right angles or diagonally.

Wire fence fence

Stands out affordable price, reliability, long service life and appearance. Welded lattice fencing is made from individual rods, which are connected by welding to each other in the form of a lattice and are often sectional. Such a grid can be made of profile or round pipes.

Forged-welded structures

These are fences in which welded gratings are decorated with forged openwork parts. Unusual forged-welded fences absolutely correspond to all indicators of metal products.

Metal picket fences

This product looks the same as a wooden one, but has all the advantages of metal fences. The advantages also include relatively inexpensive cost and ease of installation.

Preparing tools

To create a picket fence you will need the following set of materials and accessories:

  • beams for posts 100 by 100 mm;
  • boards for crossbars 40 by 100 mm;
  • picket fence 25 by 80 mm;
  • long bolts, screws, washers and nuts;
  • cement, sand, gravel.

The kit for a fence made of corrugated sheets has the following components:

  • pillars made of profile pipe;
  • veining for transverse laying;
  • corrugated sheeting;
  • metal screws;
  • fence strip;
  • If the fence has brick pillars, you should purchase caps to cover them.

For independent arrangement Forged construction requires the following tools:

  • Bulgarian;
  • welding machine;
  • twisting device;
  • spray gun with compressor;
  • vice;
  • small tool.

For chain-link fencing you need:

  • pillars for the frame;
  • pole fasteners;
  • screwdriver;
  • concrete or cement composition for the base of pillars;
  • rope;
  • construction centimeter;
  • pegs;
  • level;
  • drill or bayonet shovel;
  • Rabitz;
  • wire.

Fence installation

From corrugated sheets

  1. Installation of pillars. The optimal distance is 2.5 m, a suitable depth is 1.2 m with a width of 0.2 m. After installing the support, the pit is tightly filled with a mixture of gravel, sand and brick fragments.
  2. Fixation of veins. It is performed by welding to give the structure strength. Three transverse parts are fastened.
  3. Arrangement of corrugated sheets. Fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws; it is better to match it to the color of the sheets. It is optimal to overlap on one wave; an indentation of 15 cm should be made upward from the ground so that in the spring the material does not drown in water. There is no need to make holes in the corrugated sheet beforehand, as special metal screws are used.
  4. Installation of the plank. It is difficult to achieve an absolutely straight line at the top edge of the fence. For this purpose, a fence strip is installed on top to eliminate unevenness.

An additional advantage of the structure made from profiled sheets is quick repair in case of damage to one of its sections. Installing a metal fence does not present any great difficulties and requires minimal skills in using construction tools.

Detailed step-by-step instructions are in.

The process is clearly shown in the video:

Mesh

  1. Digging holes for posts. The width of the hole should be approximately the width of a shovel and a depth of 60-80 cm. Do not exceed this depth, as there will be an unjustified overconsumption of the solution. This will also increase final cost chain-link fence.
  2. Installing the posts exactly along the line. For this purpose, it is necessary to install the outer supports and stretch a rope between them.
  3. Pouring pillars with concrete. After filling the holes with solution, you should leave them for some period to dry. The optimal time is 6 days, it directly depends on the quality of the concrete. Before purchasing it, you should consult with professionals and study its properties and characteristics.
  4. Mesh tension. It is necessary to pass the tension wire through the holes in the posts. To prevent the mesh from sagging, a tensioner is installed on each span. Braces are installed between the outer pillars so that when tensioning, the support threads do not tilt and remain in place.
  5. Fixing the mesh fabric. For this, wire with a diameter of 6.5 mm is used. It is threaded through the mesh cells and welded to the posts. At welding work You need to remember about safety precautions: a mask, glasses and overalls, checking devices for malfunctions. Also, work should not be performed in high humidity and precipitation; the equipment should be turned off between uses.
  6. Cover the posts, wire and braces with paint.

Forged

If you have made a decision, then you need to start by choosing its form. There are several types of fencing with forged sections. Of these, the most popular are fences on metal posts, as well as using a base made of stone, concrete or brick.

When arranging a structure on metal supports, the following procedure is recommended:

  1. Mark the area by installing wooden pegs in the places where the posts will be placed.
  2. Dig holes under the concrete base for the posts. It is enough to make recesses 50x50 cm and a depth of up to 70 cm. You can dig with a shovel and select the soil with a shovel tool.
  3. To increase strength, you can make a frame from reinforcement, to which you need to fasten the support by welding. Under the racks you can take a regular or profile pipe required sizes. If there is frame reinforcement, then it is optimal to use rods with a diameter of up to 10 mm.
  4. Fill the hole with a vertical stand with concrete. When making a solution, take 1 part cement and 3 parts sand with crushed stone. The base will become strong within 6-7 days, after which the sections themselves can be equipped.
  5. If you use brick, concrete or stone for the pillars, then the sequence of work will be the same. The only difference will be larger volume construction - you will have to lay brick or stone yourself and pour concrete parts. In addition, such a foundation requires a more powerful foundation. For this purpose, you need to dig a trench around the entire perimeter of the fence, and also weld a frame from rods with a diameter of 12 mm.

Arrangement forged fences It is convenient to carry out any design with assistants, because the sections are quite heavy. For the same reason, you will have to use transport of a certain carrying capacity to deliver all the parts to the site.

From a picket fence

The procedure goes step by step like this:

  1. Installation of corner posts. If you simply dig them into the ground, the structure will not last long; it is better to first install steel anchors. To do this, dig a hole up to 1 m, lower a pipe into it, into which the anchor is mounted, and then fill it with solution. After approximately 3 days, they begin to install the supports; this is done by fastening them to the anchors with screws or long bolts.
    When making a fence from a picket fence yourself, you need to comply with all technological standards and the subtleties of each stage. When installing a tin pipe formwork, it is specially raised before pouring the solution so that it fills the bottom of the pit. This is done to form a concrete base, which will prevent the pillars from being pushed out after frost.
  2. Creation of transverse veins. Before fixing the cross beams, the top edge is beveled to prevent rainwater from accumulating on the surface. The crossbars are inserted into the grooves of the supports and secured with self-tapping screws.
  3. Picket fence equipment. Each part of it is attached to the cross beams with 4 screws: 2 in the upper part and 2 in the lower part. In order to prevent cracks on the pickets when screwing in the fasteners, you should make holes in the right places in advance using a drill slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws. To maintain an equal distance between sections, use a special template bar.
  4. Having erected a fence from this material, it needs to be made more attractive. To do this, the fence is coated with compounds based on light-resistant particles.

The step-by-step process is also shown in the video:

Metal structures are durable and reliable. Although, like other analogues, they require care. If necessary, they need to be painted, while simultaneously removing rust and loose parts of the old paint.

Installing a metal fence with your own hands is not very difficult, although you will still need welding skills.

Rabitz

The simplest and most economical fence can be installed permanently by enclosing the chain-link in frame sections, or temporarily simply stretch the mesh between the posts. Convenient to fence with mesh personal plots, as it allows sunlight to reach the plants.

However, it cannot be called a reliable fence. The territory is completely visible through it, and the wire cells can easily be cut through with ordinary wire cutters.

Fence

Externally, a metal picket fence resembles a wooden one. Sometimes it is painted to match for aesthetics. It is more reliable in operation, and the metal strips will always be level.

They will not move, as often happens with low-quality wood used for ordinary picket fences. The design is low cost and you can install it yourself without help.

Corrugated sheet

The most popular corrugated fencing today completely hides the territory from prying eyes. A wide range of sheet colors allows you to decorate country yards and enterprise areas.

Thanks to the protective polymer coating, corrugated sheeting does not require painting, and if it is heavily soiled, it can simply be washed with a hose with water.

Sectional

Very popular and easy to install sectional fences. They are often made from welded mesh enclosed in a metal frame.

The location of the mesh rods may be under different angles. The openness of the territory is still preserved, as with the chain-link option, but damage sectional mesh pretty hard.

Forged-welded

Traditional fences made of welded bars are decorated with forged elements. The result is an elite design that will perfectly decorate the area in front.

It is difficult to make on your own due to the need for welding equipment and certain skills. The fence is durable and beautiful, but the area remains visible.

Lattices

Lattice fencing is most often made sectional. Any rods of the same diameter are used.

In addition to fittings, you can use thin square or round pipes. To make such a reliable fence you will need a lot of welding equipment.

Forged structures

You won't be able to create such a masterpiece yourself. Forged spans are purchased ready-made. The high cost of products is due to heavy handmade masters

Most often, elite courtyards are fenced off with such fences. Forging goes well with metal, brick or stone supports.

Blinds

Spanning in the form of blinds the new kind fencing. They allow air to pass through perfectly and at the same time almost completely hide the area from prying eyes.

It is difficult to make blinds yourself; it is easier to purchase ready-made ones and attach them to poles.

Marking the territory and installing poles

The stability of fences depends on strong posts. This is especially important for blind spans with large windage.

They install metal fences with different supports, but in order for them to look aesthetically pleasing, it is necessary to accurately mark the territory.

Marking for pillars

The first place to install the corner posts is marked.

In these places, wooden stakes are driven in and a cord is pulled between them, indicating the outline of the fence.

Fence posts are placed along the cord, and then all intermediate posts are marked for securing the spans.

When marking, you must adhere to sanitary standards:

  • the minimum distance between the fence and the living space is 3 m, and from outbuildings – 1 m
  • there should be no continuous fences between adjacent areas

For ease of marking, in addition to the construction cord, it is good to have a laser level on hand.

Three ways to mount racks

Depending on the technical characteristics material used for spans, pillars can be installed in three ways.

Hammering into the ground

The most economical and easy installation metal poles is to drive them into the ground with a sledgehammer. Such racks are suitable for simple spans of mesh or rods. Another convenient way to arrange temporary fencing is in a similar way.

You can drive in pillars in areas with non-stony soil, but saturated with durable rock deposits. This method is not suitable for loose and soft soil, since the pillars will soon acquire an inclined position.

The minimum depth for driving in pipes is 1.2 m. It will be difficult to drive in with a sledgehammer, but this is the only way to ensure the stability of the structure. The pitch of intermediate pillars is usually 3 m, but this figure may vary depending on the material of the span.

Zabutovka

On slightly hard ground, you can use the method of backfilling pillars. In the marked places, holes with a depth of 1.2–1.5 m are drilled with a drill.

The width depends on the diameter used. Usually it is enough to make the pits 150–200 mm wide. The bottom is covered with a 100 mm layer of sand, compacted well, and then the pipe is immersed.

The stand is aligned vertically with a plumb line or level, after which backfilling begins. The holes are filled with any fine stone.

It could be crushed stone, gravel or just construction garbage. Each layer is spilled with water, compacted tightly with any thick rod or wooden stick. Most upper layer covered with sand.

Concreting

Most reliable way installation of pillars involves concreting them. The method is effective for any type of soil. Concrete supports can withstand heavy spans, so they are often equipped together with a strip support.

For conventional concreting, holes are drilled with a drill. The bottom of the pit is filled with 100 mm gravel bed. The vertically exposed pipe is fixed with temporary supports and a liquid concrete solution is prepared.

Its proportions are 1 part M-400 cement and 3 parts clean sand. The poured mixture is left to harden for at least two weeks, then the installation of spans begins.

Installation of fence sections

The installation of any spans must be carried out under constant supervision laser level or, in extreme cases, a stretched cord. The aesthetics of the fence depends on this.

When starting to build a metal fence with your own hands, the drawings should always be nearby. They will help you navigate difficult situations.

Installation of sectional spans

Sectional spans can be ready-made. They are purchased at retail outlets or ordered to be manufactured according to their sizes from companies engaged in the production of metal structures.

To make the sections yourself, you will need to weld metal frames. It is cheaper and easier to weld a one-sided frame, but a double-sided one looks aesthetically pleasing.

In any case, its height should correspond to the post, and its width should be 100 mm less than the distance between the posts.

A section welded directly to the support makes the structure less strong, so it is fixed with rods. To do this, cut 6 rods 50 mm long for one span and weld them on top, in the middle and bottom of each rack. The section is fixed to these rods.

Installation of spans from corrugated sheets

To fix the corrugated sheets, load-bearing lintels are welded from the profile between the posts. For a one-sided fence, the spacing of the jumpers is 300 mm, and for a double-sided fence – 600 mm.

The sheets are screwed to the jumpers with special self-tapping screws with a rubber washer through one wave. For aesthetics, self-tapping screws are selected to match the color of the corrugated sheet. Sometimes it is practiced in double-sided fences to lay foam plastic between the sheets for sound insulation.

Installation of blinds

For self-made For blinds, you will need to weld a frame from a profile pipe with a cross-section of 20x40 mm. Its height must be a multiple of 124 mm. The lamellas are cut from sheet metal 0.5 mm thick. They are attached to the frame with self-tapping screws.

Making blinds at home is very difficult, so it is better to buy ready-made sections. All that remains is to secure them to the posts.

Fence

Installation of metal picket fence strips occurs on transverse crossbars welded to the posts. They are fastened with four screws, two each at the top and bottom.

It is important to maintain the same distance between the slats. To adhere to it, use a template.

Manufacturing of forged spans

Only real masters can engage in forging.

First, they draw a sketch of the element, then transfer it to metal and cut it out.

The span is assembled on a flat surface.

From square pipes The frame is welded, forged elements are laid out on it, secured by welding.

The final work is the treatment of the metal with an anti-corrosion compound followed by painting. The finished section is welded to the pillars.

Mesh tension

When setting up temporary fencing, there is no point in making sectional spans from mesh. The chain-link is pulled between the supports, welded with pieces of wire 6 mm thick through the cells to the posts.

To prevent sagging, a tensioner is installed on each span, and the outer supports are strengthened with braces.

The manufactured metal fence will provide good protection for your home and, with simple timely care, will last for many years.

How to make a fence from a mesh - on video:

Metal is a fairly popular material used in the manufacture of fencing. This is explained primarily by his mechanical strength, accessibility and ease of installation. There are a large number of metal fences made of metal. Let's look at their features and installation technology below.

Metal fence: device, advantages, types

Metal fences are increasingly being used as fencing or dividing areas. Metal is an easy-to-work material that can be used to build fences various forms. In addition, the following advantages of metal fencing should be noted:

  • strength and reliability of the structure - a metal fence will serve you for many years, provided correct processing metal with anti-corrosion compounds;
  • metal - available material, therefore its cost is much lower than the construction of a concrete fence;
  • metal is resistant to combustion and fire, so the level fire safety such a structure is at a high level;
  • a metal fence is practical and does not get dirty, and is easy to clean if necessary;
  • There are a large number of paints for metal, so you can paint such a fence in any color;
  • unlike wood, metal is resistant to moisture, temperature changes, and ultraviolet radiation;
  • metal fencing is easy and quick to install, unlike brick, stone or concrete fences, installation of the fence does not require any special skills or tools.

Metal fences differ in the type of material from which they are made. The simplest, easiest and most economical solution would be to use chain-link mesh to make fences. The height of the fence will be about 1.5 m, with its help it will be possible to divide the site into several zones and protect them from outside intrusion.

A welded sectional fence is distinguished primarily by its long service life, but the cost of such a fence is quite high. This fence has an attractive appearance and functions as the main fence for the site. For the manufacture of sections are used special pipes, improving the quality of fence operation. To decorate such a fence, forging and various decorative elements made of metal.

The most popular option is corrugated fences. The cost of their construction is lower than that of sectional ones, and the quality and duration of operation are at a high level.

The corrugated sheet has the form of a profiled steel sheet coated with a layer of zinc. Thanks to this, it is resistant to corrosion, ultraviolet radiation, and retains its color well. To paint corrugated sheets, a special polymer-based enamel is used.

A fence made of corrugated sheets has the following advantages:

  • such a fence is easy to install and does not require an additional foundation;
  • corrugated sheeting is resistant to high and low temperatures;
  • attractive appearance is another undeniable advantage of this material; there are many options for corrugated sheeting, differing in shape, size and color;
  • a fence made of solid metal will cost you more than a fence made of corrugated sheets;
  • corrugated sheeting provides protection of the area from dust and has good soundproofing characteristics.

Another option for metal fencing is metal picket fences. For the manufacture of such a fence, a picket fence and crossbars painted with polymer paint. This way, you can choose the fence color you need.

Unlike a wooden picket fence, a metal fence will last several times longer. Since metal is more resistant to moisture, temperature changes and other external irritants. However, the cost of such a fence is also higher than a wooden one. The steel picket fence looks very nice in combination with brick supports.

How to properly install metal fence posts

We suggest you familiarize yourself with the features of installing steel posts for a metal picket fence. In this case, the pillars serve as supports. They are made from metal and other materials such as wood, concrete or brick.

Most often, steel supports are used in the form of pipes with a diameter of about 60 cm. Please note that a steel picket fence is heavier than a wooden one, so the supports must easily withstand the load from the fence itself, wind and other mechanical damage.

Steel posts are a universal option for installing a picket fence, as well as for a fence made of mesh or corrugated board.

During the installation of metal fences and pipes you will need:

  • shovels or drills;
  • screwdriver;
  • welding machine;
  • cord and level for marking.

The area is first cleared of vegetation and debris. Next, markings are made on it. The installation location is determined using the cord support pillars. With proper calculation, it will be possible to prevent sagging or distortion of the enclosing structure.

The simplest and most popular method is pouring support pillars concrete mortar. This method is suitable for soil with optimal moisture content. Initially, you should dig a hole for the post, install the post and fill the remaining space with concrete mortar.

In order to facilitate the drilling process on the site, water is used to soften the soil. If the height of the pillar is no more than 150 cm, then the depth of the hole will be no more than half a meter. When installing higher posts, you will need to equip a hole measuring 70-80 cm.

If the soil on the site is characterized by low heaving, then it is enough to drill a hole with a drill and install a support. However, the hole must be drilled in a strictly vertical direction.

However, if the soil on the site has a high moisture content, then you will need to use a different method of installing support pillars. In this case, the pole must be installed below the soil freezing level. In addition, before starting the installation of the pillar, a cushion of crushed stone, about 18-20 cm thick, should be installed at the bottom of the pit.

In this way, it is possible to arrange a so-called drainage system and it is possible to mitigate frost heaving on the soil. Concrete solution is used to fill the last 15 cm of the hole.

The second method of installing steel supports involves driving them into the ground. This method often used on soils with low rock content. For driving, a special design is used, for the manufacture of which a steel pipe and a weight located at its end are used. The blow must be performed strictly on the object axis, so as to ultimately obtain an even support.

How to install a metal picket fence

After installing the supports, the process of installing the metal picket fence follows. To fix it, a profiled pipe measuring 4x2 cm is used. It is possible to use pipes with a larger cross-section, however, this option is the most optimal.

The metal supports and profile are painted the same color as the picket fence. A steel picket fence has the form of elements of a certain length, for the manufacture of which galvanized steel is used. There are a large number of picket fence colors, both bright and calmer and more desaturated. Most often, a layer of galvanized steel 0.5 cm thick is applied to the surface of the picket fence.

The main requirement for obtaining a high-quality fence is correct execution marking and installation of supports. Further actions are of the same type and require fixing the picket fence to the profile.

The aesthetic appearance of the fence is determined by the distance between the pickets. Therefore, before installing them, you should determine the length of the fence between the supports and divide it by the width of the picket fence. Maintaining large intervals is impractical, since due to too much load, there is a risk of the fence sagging.

In order to prevent rapid wear of the picket fence, it should be located at a certain distance from the soil. The optimal value is 10 cm. It is possible to construct a blind fence in which the picket fence is located at a minimum distance from each other. Air option The fence involves placing the picket fence at a certain distance from each other.

To secure the fencing elements, you will need fasteners in the form of self-tapping screws or special bolts with washers. The washers will help prevent damage to the galvanized coating and corrosion of the picket fence. It is possible to use special fasteners, the same as the picket fence itself.

Galvanized fasteners are the best option for installing a picket fence, since its service life is the same as that of the fence itself. Make sure to maintain the same spacing between the pickets, otherwise the fence will look asymmetrical.

Installation of metal mesh for a fence

Before starting work, you should determine the total perimeter of the fence; based on this indicator, it will be possible to calculate the amount of material for work. In addition, you will need poles with a length of 150 to 250 cm. Their installation interval is about 3-4 meters. You will also need metal logs or wire, with their help you can fix the mesh.

Please note that before installing the mesh, the supports should be painted using a special paint with anti-corrosion effects. Next, the supports are installed under the mesh. Initially, the pillars are installed, then the logs, and then the mesh.

The posts should be installed in the corners first. Make sure that the supports are installed evenly. They must be in a strictly vertical position. The depth of the pit for installing the supports is about 50 cm. Crushed stone and, if possible, concrete mortar are used to backfill the supports.

Use a water level to check the installation height of all supports. Next, the logs are installed. To fix them on the surface of the supports, bolts and nuts are used. After this, the mesh is installed and fixed with aluminum wire. The lower fixation of the mesh is carried out using special brackets. It is possible to use plastic clamps.

How to install a metal fence made of corrugated sheets

Installation of a corrugated fence includes certain steps, such as:

  • preparing the foundation and marking;
  • installation of support pillars and installation of logs;
  • installation of corrugated sheets.

The first stage is very important, since the evenness of the resulting fence depends on the quality of its implementation. The maximum interval between posts is 300 cm. In order to determine the required number of supports, the perimeter of the fence should be divided by 3 m.

Square or square pipes are used as supports. round section. The minimum value for square pipes is 5x5 cm, and for round pipes - 7 cm. To prevent moisture from getting into the inside of the pillars, the lower and upper holes should be welded.

The depth of the hole for the pillars is about 100 cm, and the width is about 15 cm. For these purposes, it is preferable to use hand drill. The depth of the holes for installing supports depends on the height of the fence.

The posts must be well fixed to the ground, since in addition to the weight of the fence, they are susceptible to mechanical stress and wind force. Medium-fraction gravel, about 20 cm thick, should be poured onto the bottom. Next, the pillar is installed and filled with concrete mortar.

Use a plumb line to install the posts. For additional fixation of the supports, weld steel rods to them and also fill them with concrete. After the concrete hardens, logs are installed between the supports. Most often used as a lag steel pipes. If the height of the fence is more than 1.6 m, then two logs are enough. Otherwise, three logs should be installed. The logs are fixed to the supports using a welding machine. In order to protect them from moisture, they are coated with an anti-corrosion solution.

Please note that if the fence installation work is carried out in the spring, when the soil is oversaturated with moisture, then it is better to first build a shallow strip foundation. With its help, the fence will become stronger and more stable. If this is not done, the fence may sag. The final stage is the installation of corrugated sheeting on the logs. The sheets are joined together with a slight overlap. To avoid injury, wear gloves, as the corrugated board is quite sharp.

To cut sheets, use only metal scissors or a hacksaw. The use of an angle grinder will lead to the destruction of the galvanized coating and the appearance of metal corrosion. In order to secure the corrugated sheeting to the joists, special staples are used, the same color as the material itself.

A fence made of corrugated sheets is a practical, inexpensive and easy-to-install solution for making fencing. In addition, if all installation technologies are followed, such a fence will serve you for more than ten years.

Metal fences are the most popular and in demand. They are easy to install, wear-resistant, practical and durable.

Tools and materials

Massive wrought iron fence usually considered a sign of wealth.

Due to the fact that the construction of a fence is a multi-stage work, each stage requires various materials and tools, some of which are useful for several operations.

To build a fence you will need the following tools and materials:

  1. To install trenches and formwork, you need building level, fencing pegs, fishing line or nylon thread, tape measure, crowbar, shovels, soil bags, wheelbarrow for removing soil, wood screws, construction half-edged boards, electric drill, wooden jumpers, knitting wire, reinforcing rods.
  2. To fill the foundation you need rakes, shovels, steel sheets, a large container for mixing mortar, sand, water, cement, crushed stone, liquid soap, trowels, buckets for mortar, and plastic film.
  3. To build a fence frame you need metal pipes usually with a cross section of 60*60 mm, profile pipes measuring 20*40*2 mm, embedded metal plates, a shield or goggles for eye protection, electric welding, electrodes, alkyd enamel, building level, grinder.

Types of metal fence

Before building a fence, you need to choose the material and method of construction.

Using a metal sectional picket fence, you can quickly fence off an area.

You need to decide what you want to see as the final result after you build the fence.

The most popular types of metal fence are:

  • from profiled sheet;
  • from mesh;
  • metal picket fence;
  • welded fence

Chain-link fences are in great demand in gardens due to their low cost and quick installation.

Such a fence is often erected on summer cottages, in gardens and orchards. This grid is named after its inventor. It is made from steel wire manually or on special automatic machines. To prevent corrosion, it is coated with zinc, paint or special polymer coatings. In some cases, the chain-link mesh is made of stainless wire. Depending on the cell size and diameter, the strength of the mesh changes. The smaller the cell and the larger the diameter, the stronger the mesh. The mesh is usually produced in rolls 1.5 meters high and 10 meters long. It is also possible to order chain-link mesh according to individual sizes.

A chain-link fence is lightweight, transparent, durable and does not hide the beauty of the area from prying eyes. It is often used as a support for climbing plants.

The leading position is occupied by a fence made of profiled sheets. A corrugated sheet is a steel sheet that has a sinusoidal or trapezoidal corrugation, and is also coated with polymer or zinc. This material has high reliability and strength due to its wavy structure. This fence is highly resistant to weather changes. The color remains bright throughout its entire service life. It has excellent fire-fighting qualities, simplicity and ease of installation.

Corrugated sheets for fences are produced different thicknesses- from 0.5 to 1 mm.

For fences, wall profiled sheets are used. It includes markings: S-8, S-10, S-14, S-15, S-18, S-20. Digital designation corresponds to the wave height. This type fencing is used for residential areas and industrial areas.

A welded fence is ideal for the architecture of any site and complements it with individuality.

A welded fence is built using rolled metal. For its construction it is used profile pipe 20 by 20. A metal fence of this type has a number of advantages. This is the protection and decoration of the home. Welded fences can be supplemented with forged elements.

Metal picket fences are also in demand. It performs a protective function well. The tips of the picket fence have a sharp shape. The bars located close to each other prevent entry into your territory from the outside. It is durable, inexpensive to build and practical. It is usually used to improve the area.

Methods for installing supports

Alignment is carried out along a thread stretched between the outer pillars.

There are several ways to build a fence around an area. Before installing the supports, you need to determine the distance between them. It is usually 2-3 meters or corresponds to the size of the finished section when installing a welded fence.

As a basis for all types of fencing the best option is a strip foundation.

Screw piles are also used. Their advantage is the possibility of installation on various terrain and any soil in any weather and season. No additional investment is required to install screw piles. Piles can be moved from one place to another. They can withstand even heavy fences. The posts are screwed in using special equipment or manually.

Concreting pillars. Using a drill, holes are drilled to a depth of 1-1.5 meters. Next, medium and fine crushed stone in a layer of 0.25 meters is poured onto the bottom of the dug hole. Then a profiled pipe is installed and leveled by level or plumb. For stability, pieces of reinforcement are welded perpendicularly to the bottom of the pillars. The lower part of the pipe must be treated against corrosion.

First, install the pillars in the corners, then stretch the cord between them. The rest of the supports are placed on it. Aligned and installed pipes are poured with concrete or cement mortar in a ratio of 1 to 8. After this, an additional check is carried out with a string and a level, since after the mortar hardens, correcting defects will be extremely difficult. To build a high-quality metal fence, its supports are allowed to stand for several days.

Strip foundations are used to build a fence on moving soils. A trench is dug along the perimeter of the site, 0.25 meters wide and 0.5 meters deep. For a metal fence you do not need to make a deep foundation. A sand cushion is poured into the bottom of the trench and water is poured over it. The foundation is tied around the perimeter with reinforcement. It should not come into contact with the bottom and walls of the trench. Therefore, pieces of brick are placed under the reinforcement.

The height of the foundation above the ground is 20-30 cm, for which formwork is installed before pouring the right size. In order for the foundation to gain the required strength, it must be left to dry completely for 7-10 days. The strip foundation will firmly hold the fence. Installed supports are primed and painted to prevent corrosion and provide an aesthetic appearance. The tops of the pillars are covered with special plugs or welded with pieces of metal to protect them from precipitation.
