Decorative finishing of entrance doors can be carried out in various ways - for these purposes, all kinds of structural paints and a wooden lath are used, and, when it comes to sheathing the canvas from the inside, even laminate and other similar materials. Such door finishing is a complex process, the final result of which largely depends on the hand of the master. Another thing is door linings, they are an integral decorative element that can decorate a door quickly enough, and the final result depends little on the master. They will be discussed in this article, in which, together with the site, we will study their varieties with all their inherent advantages and disadvantages, and also analyze the principle of self-installation of these products.

Door linings: varieties and their features

All decorative door linings can differ exclusively in two ways - in appearance and in the material from which they are made. If everything is more or less clear with the appearance, then with the materials that determine the quality of these products, their service life and, in some way, their appearance, it is worth understanding in more detail. Consider the main materials that are used to make the so-called door linings.

  1. Wooden door strips. Overlays of several varieties can be made from this material, which are determined by the use of one or another method of decorating wood. In this respect, this type of product can be divided into lacquered, painted, veneered or laminated overlays. Depending on this decorative layer, not only the appearance changes, but also some of the characteristics of the door linings. For example, veneer is quite poorly resistant to the effects of high humidity - it is better not to use such overlays on a private house. They are great for an apartment, but not for private buildings, the entrance doors of which are in direct contact with the street. Laminated wood door strips have exactly the same characteristics, only to a lesser extent. In general, painted or lacquered door cards are more suitable for private sector doors - over time, such protection will have to be restored, but this is better than just throwing away, as is the case with laminated or veneered plates. Although they can be restored, it will take more effort and money.

  2. Plywood overlays. In principle, this is practically the same option as wooden linings - the difference lies in their price and, of course, in technical characteristics. It should be understood that plywood itself is a derivative of wood - in fact, it is a thin veneer glued together in layers, which, under the influence of external factors, begins to exfoliate, no matter what moisture-resistant qualities the manufacturers endow this material with. I have nothing against it, but door cards made of plywood should not be used on entrance doors that are in direct contact with the street. This is an option for an apartment and, as in the previous case, it can be covered with decorative veneer, laminating film, varnish or paint that preserves or does not preserve the texture of the wood.
  3. MDF door linings. In a way, this material (MDF) can also be called a wood derivative - it is made from fine wood dust, joined together by modern polymer compounds, thanks to which MDF becomes less susceptible to moisture. But these polymers, like the sawdust themselves, cannot fully resist moisture without additional protection, which is the outer layer of the laminate. The latter is quite thin, and such protection, as you understand, is not very reliable - the slightest scratch leads to damage to the MDF card. But with careful handling of such products, they perfectly withstand outdoor operating conditions (if they do not have direct contact with water and are installed under a canopy), but still the most optimal area of their application is an apartment.

  4. Plastic door trim. Let's put it bluntly - this is exactly what in the conditions of the street (even in spite of direct contact with water) will serve for a long time until it gets old. Plastic is also good because it does not have a decorative layer - or rather it is, but it is embedded directly into the plastic itself and is not exposed to environmental factors. It should be understood that there are very, very many different plastics, and it is from them that the card's service life fully depends. Let's just say that cheap plastic burns out in the sun and is easily scratched, but if we talk about expensive plastic made using modifiers, then these disadvantages are not observed in it.

Now think and choose what to install, synthetic or natural material. And we move on and move on to studying the technology of installing a lining on a metal door.

You can see how door linings are made in the video.

How to install the front door trim yourself

Approaching the issue of installing overlays on entrance doors, the first thing to understand is that there are two types of door cards - internal and external. The differences between them are only in the size and installation method. Why the installation differs, you will understand a little later, since we will analyze not just the installation of one card, but a full-fledged door cladding technology using these products. To make it easier to understand this technology, we will present it in the form of an instruction.

As you can see, door linings are installed simply enough to do this without specialists. All that is needed for this is the appropriate tools and devices, knowledge of the principle of mounting door cards and a bright mind.

Every owner of an apartment or private house periodically has a desire to update the appearance of the entrance structure. It can be caused by a change in the interior of the room where it is installed, or a deterioration in the appearance of the product during its operation. One of the most frequently used finishing options in such a situation is MDF overlays for metal entrance doors.

Benefits of using MDF strips for finishing steel doors

Decorative plates for metal doors, which are made of MDF panels, have long become a popular way of decorating entrance structures. The advantages of using them are obvious and lie in the following characteristics and properties of this type of finish:

  • Resistance to various influences, including mechanical ones. Manufacturing of MDF overlay gives it an external resemblance to natural wood, however, the material is much stronger and more durable;
  • Nice appearance. Covering metal MDF doors with overlays gives the product a solid and aesthetically pleasing look. In addition, the use of various additional decorative elements is allowed, for example, inserts with a mirror;
  • Improvement of the insulating characteristics of the entrance structure. MDF panels increase the protection of living quarters from cold and extraneous noise, which increases the comfort of staying in an apartment or a country cottage;
  • A variety of colors and textures. The standard white overlay is often used. However, with this color scheme, the number of different options is far from being exhausted;
  • Practicality and durability of the created decorative coating. The material from which the pad is made is not susceptible to the negative effects of mold, rot and mildew. In addition, he does not need serious care;
  • Possibility of changing the door design if necessary. If the owner wishes, he may well change the cover for a new one, and do the work with his own hands.

Such an impressive list of advantages explains why the installation of MDF overlays on metal doors in modern conditions is deservedly considered one of the most common design options for entrance structures. Moreover, this finishing technology is often used when repairing products and wanting to change their appearance.

Preparing to install MDF overlay on a metal door

Replacing MDF lining on the front door does not require the obligatory professional skills of a finisher and is quite feasible on our own. Although such a service can be performed without any problems by specialized organizations engaged in the implementation and installation of metal structures. Nevertheless, the option of independent production of works in practice is chosen much more often.

The main preparatory measure is the purchase of a suitable size MDF overlay. The easiest way is to buy material in one of the hardware stores or markets, preferably those where the service of fitting the decorative panel to the required size is provided. The price of MDF panels is at an affordable level, and the dimensions of the entrance structure, of course, should be measured in advance. In addition, you will also need to purchase a solvent, primer and other consumables.

The sequence of work on the installation of MDF-lining

In order to install a cover plate on a metal door, it is necessary to carry out such works that are quite simple from a technological point of view:

  • Dismantle the canvas, placing it on a solid and reliable support;
  • Remove all removable hardware;
  • Remove the trim that needs to be replaced, or remove the old decorative coating;
  • Clean the metal surface, then degrease it and treat it with an anti-corrosion primer or cover it with a special protective vinyl film;
  • First, the front door trim is always installed from the inside. It is attached to the surface using liquid nails and self-tapping screws. Their number is equal to 5 along the long side of the steel door and 3 along the short side;
  • If the decorative panel is installed on one side, then it is necessary to install the fittings and hang the sash on the hinges. In the case when the MDF overlay is mounted both inside and outside, you must first finish the work from the outside, and only then start hanging the canvas.

After completing the work described above, the homeowner receives a metal door with an updated design, which is likely to add new colors to the interior of the room, at the entrance to which the structure is installed. At the same time, the level of expenses required to create an alternative to the previously existing design option for a product is at a completely reasonable level. Naturally, it is much lower than the cost of purchasing a new steel door with a comparable end result.

The desire to protect your home from unauthorized entry into your territory is absolutely natural. The front door must be reliable and durable. Strong metal doors have not lost their relevance for many decades. But if earlier the appearance of the door was not given due attention, now each owner strives to give the entrance to his home with respectability and sophistication. First of all, the door is the face of the house, the beauty and nobility of the decoration of which will tell about the owner's taste.

Peculiarities

Nowadays, it is quite popular to cover doors with decorative panels.

Overlays are made from:

  • wood;
  • plywood;
  • plastic.

MDF panels are widespread among consumers; they have also established themselves as a beautiful and reliable material.

MDF is a medium density compressed fiberboard. To put it simply, these are crushed sawdust and shavings impregnated with resin. Hence the name - fine fraction, abbreviated as MDF. The result is a fairly strong slab.

When making door trims, several of these tiles are needed. If you lay an insulating material between them, you get a panel with increased thermal protection properties.

Such linings are called thermal panels and are mainly used for trimming entrance doors, as they help to keep the temperature in the dwelling at a certain level. MDF panels are installed on both entrance and interior doors. They are used for revealing not only new, freshly installed doors, but also decorate old ones that have lost their appearance. It is easy to hide external damages on the door with MDF overlays, as well as to give it a respectable, sophisticated look.

Properties

No wonder why this material is so popular.

It has such important properties as:

  • The beauty. The main advantage of MDF panels is that their coating allows you to imitate any type of wood and texture. In addition, a rich selection of colors, from standard, woody, to exclusive bright, makes them especially popular among consumers.
  • MDF - pretty easy-to-work material, it is soft and plastic, which allows you to make absolutely any patterns and ornaments on it. Milling is very popular now. The surface of the board is milled before laminating or painting.

This makes it possible to apply a relief image to the slab, from lines and the simplest geometric ornaments to the most complex ornate paintings. Embossing is also common.

  • Resistant to damage and long service life. The material is able to withstand physical stress and damage. Does not fade when exposed to sunlight.

  • Refractoriness and moisture resistance. Unlike its counterpart - chipboard, it does not swell from moisture and does not lose its appearance.
  • Soundproofing. The possibility of using mineral wool and other insulating materials increases the insulating properties of the door
  • Plating work does not require a lot of time and materials.
  • Low cost.

At the same time, these panels are manufactured in any size at the request of the customer, from typical classic ones to non-standard ones with exclusive sizes. Decorating with a beautiful MDF panel will easily add a ceremonial look to any front door.

Views

There are several types of production of MDF panels and each of them has certain properties, which significantly affects the place of their further installation.

Laminated

Laminated MDF. The board is covered with a PVC laminating film. This technology allows you to imitate any texture, although there is also a smooth coating option. Due to milling, colored inserts and mirrors, this type of MDF is highly appreciated by the consumer. The high strength of the material allows it to be used for decades.

Veneered

Veneered. Due to the manufacturing technology, in which the surface of the slab is covered with a thin saw cut of natural wood, this type of MDF is the most beautiful in appearance and looks as natural as possible.

The surface obtained with this manufacturing method imitates wood not only in color, but also in structure.

Its popularity is due to its noble appearance. Panels covered with eco-veneer are suitable for apartment and street entrance doors, as they are second only to laminated ones in resistance to damage.

Colored

Colored. This type of MDF is suitable for finishing both interior and exterior doors. The surface of the slab is covered with a special paint that is resistant to sunlight and mechanical damage.

Laminate

Covered with laminated MDF. The so-called anti-vandal coating. The most durable coating that can withstand not only UV rays, shock, but also exposure to chemicals. Such a coating is considered to be almost ideal in terms of resistance to physical stress. In addition, this coating is maximally moisture resistant, relative to the rest.

DIY restoration

The process of restoring a door with decorative overlays is not so difficult. But a little skills in working with tools will not be superfluous.

First, you need to decide on the color and design so that your updated door is in harmony with the facade of your home if you are decorating the front entrance. For the correct selection of the top coat, it is important not to forget about the climatic conditions. When restoring or renovating an interior door, it is important that it blends harmoniously with the interior style.

The door cover can be bought ready-made, however, now the price is the individuality of the decoration and design of housing.

A wide selection of colors, textures and design will allow you to create a panel to your taste, according to your individual project.

For independent work on door paneling, you will need tools and materials:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • glue or liquid nails;
  • sandpaper;
  • end profile;
  • roulette;
  • clamps.

Panel cladding procedure

Before starting the sheathing, it is necessary to remove the door from the hinges, dismantle the fittings, and put it on a flat surface. It is not recommended to carry out all manipulations on weight in order to avoid distortions. If the old coating is replaced, we completely remove it.

Next, you need to grind the entire surface of the canvas. If the door is made of steel, it is recommended to paint or cover it with vinyl film for a perfect fit of the panel to the door. If the door is wooden, then the old paint and varnish layer must be removed from it and the entire surface must be thoroughly cleaned.

On the doors, it is necessary to outline the places of the future fittings, as well as transfer these marks to the panels and drill holes.

You should start from the inside of the door. The surface of the door is coated with special glue or liquid nails. The adhesive is applied in waves and the panel is laid. It is important to press it as hard as possible. For this, clamps or clamps are used.

Throughout the entire area, holes are drilled from the outside, in increments of 40 cm. With their help, fastening to self-tapping screws will be carried out. It is important to choose self-tapping screws of such length that they do not go through the lining and spoil the decor. We screw them right through to the decorative cover and remove the clamps.

The next step is to install the outer panel. A little more adhesive is required than with the inner card. We fix the panel with clamps. Further, the difference in actions is only that it is necessary to drill holes along the perimeter, as close to the edge as possible, in increments of 10-12 cm. We screw in the screws and remove the clamps.

We close the ends with a decorative corner to match the door, this will hide the caps of the screws. To do this, we measure the door pacing and cut off the necessary slats from the end profile. We install all the hardware and the lock on the door. We hang the door on the hinges.

We make out the opening in the same way.

When upholstering interior doors with door panels, several questions arise that will have to be resolved.

Due to the thickness of the overlays on both sides, the thickness of the door itself also changes. The hinges, as well as the latch, will no longer fall into place.

The fittings will definitely have to be changed, and with them the whole box, since the door will no longer "sit" correctly in the door block.

True, there is an option to install linings with a minimum thickness. These are panels with a thickness of about 2-3 mm, but they do not differ in durability and strength. Such panels fail quickly.

If in the process of updating the door you have a question whether it is worth updating the doorway, it is definitely worth it. The same MDF panels with which the door was sheathed are ideal. The ideal solution would be to make slopes and platbands from the same material as the door itself. So, the updated door block will look neat and harmonious.

The door is a visiting card, the "face" of home ownership, the first thing that greets guests and creates an impression of the homeowners. And if over time the entrance doors have aged or lost their attractiveness, it is not at all necessary to dismantle them. In most cases, you can get by with a correctly selected door leaf. This versatile product will perform not only a decorative function, but also a protective one. Cover plates for entrance doors allow you to hide their unpresentability from prying eyes and decorate the facade of the entrance to a house or apartment.

Peculiarities

Decorative finishing of the entrance door can be done in different ways. Modern manufacturers offer a wide range of all kinds of paints, wooden battens, laminate boards. However, such a design of doors is a rather complicated process, the final result of which will depend on the skill and dexterity of the master.

Another thing is the door decorative strip, which is a solid layer that can quickly decorate the door.

Such decor does not require special skills, so the help of a specialist is not needed to install it.

Door covers are made from different materials, they differ in different designs, colors, but regardless of these factors, they are all united by a common purpose:

  • Protection. The pads protect the surface from all sorts of damage - accidental blows, scratches, etc.
  • Decor. Thanks to the overlays, you can effectively update the old door, give it a new look, suitable for the old or new interior.
  • Saving. If there is no money to replace the door, you can significantly save money on its purchase by simply decorating the worn-out surface with a beautiful overlay.

In addition, the number of positive properties include:

  • resistance to vandalism / burglary;
  • fire resistance;
  • excellent sound insulation;
  • retention of heat;
  • the ability to decorate a metal door for every taste.

Views

Two signs by which it is possible to conditionally divide all decorative linings on the doors are their appearance and the material of manufacture. And if there are no questions about the first criterion, it depends entirely on the taste and preferences of consumers, then the second one needs to be properly understood, because the quality of the product, its service life and its appearance depend on the base material.

The main materials used for the manufacture of door linings include wood, MDF boards (fine fraction), plastic, plywood, artificial stone.

Main characteristics of raw materials:

  • Wood pleasant to the touch, has a beautiful appearance, attracts with its smooth forms, is environmentally friendly, durable and has a long service life. As a rule, exclusive goods are made from timber only by hand and by individual design. Factory-made wooden specimens are smooth or carved. Their surface is laminated, painted, varnished or covered with eco-veneer.
  • Multi-layer plywood are used for the production of cover plates for indoor use, that is, for decorating doors indoors. The attractiveness of an inexpensive panel is given by lamination, veneering or a milled pattern, varnished.

  • MDF has high heat-resistant properties, resistant to moisture. This material is best used indoors.
  • Plastic. Plastic upholstery is available in different shapes, sizes and stylistic options, individual order is also possible. High-quality plastic finish will reliably protect entrance systems from negative environmental influences.
  • Fake diamond. Tiles, imitating the surface of hard rocks of natural resources, are very lightweight and reliable, retain their beautiful appearance for a long period of time.

Manufacturers have not forgotten about accessories either.

Armored lock pads will additionally protect the door structure, and a chrome trim on the door handle will add aesthetics to the decorated product.

How to choose?

To make the iron door look more attractive, the ideal solution would be to decorate the canvas with a decorative panel. You need to choose an overlay taking into account the overall exterior and base material of the door.

Decorative overlays for the front door are presented on the market in a wide variety of options, so when deciding to buy, you should pay attention to some aspects of choosing a finished product. First you need to carefully inspect the lining, think about which one is better suited. After that, you need to find out what the upholstery is made of, how it is attached and whether the selected door covering will ruin.

It is also worth paying attention to factors such as:

The appearance of the lining. There are lacquered, painted or just prepared for painting models, outdoor (outdoor) and indoor, with a mirror and other additional inserts. There are also individual options that are sheathed with veneer or laminate on top;

Sometimes the door handles have to be changed. In order for new parts to fit the design of the door, you need to take care of their appearance in advance. Special overlays are also provided for finishing the fittings.

When installing a decorative overlay, you need to be aware that not only the appearance of the door will change, the canvas itself can behave in an unusual way for the owners. If the door is sheathed with wood or veneer, then moisture, which will certainly be present outside the room, will eventually render the natural material unusable. Therefore, such a cladding is unsuitable for the doors of households, where the entrance goes directly to the street.

Conversely, an overlay from boards for an apartment is a great option. There are no negative influences in the entrance, therefore, both the outer and inner sides of the entrance structure will not suffer.

If you need to "refresh" the entrance sheet of private property, then the door linings made of plastic will do.

This material is more resistant to temperature extremes and exposure to sunlight.

Installation

Installing a decorative lining on the door is not an overwhelming task, and anyone can do it with their own hands without the help of a professional craftsman.

First, the door leaf must be removed from the hinges and laid horizontally.

This is necessary for the convenience of performing further operations, which include:

  • Removal of all accessories: door handles, peephole, latches (if any), oarlocks.
  • Cleaning, degreasing the door leaf (if the surface is made of metal) and pasting with foil or painting in the color of the purchased decorative panel.
  • Fixing the decorative panel with self-tapping screws. For double-sided installation, fix the inner panel first.
  • Making holes for fittings. All previously removed mechanisms are returned to their original places. After that, the door can be put back in its place.

A neatly installed decorative strip will extend the operating life of the door system by several years.

How to replace?

Sometimes it happens that the decorative panel on the front door, due to physical impact (gnawed by a dog, someone scratched) or a long stay in an open space, loses its attractive appearance. In this case, a complete replacement is required.

To change the trim, you must first remove the doors. For this process, you will need a crowbar or crowbar. With their help, you need to lift the door leaf and remove it from the hinges. If there is a seal, you should also remove it, and then remove the self-tapping screws that attach the decorative panel. After that, you need to attach a new cover to the place of the old one. You can fix it with the same screws that were removed, and then hide them under the seal.

In some models of doors there are no self-tapping screws, and the upholstery is fixed in a pencil case.

To dismantle the cover, in this case, all you have to do is pull out the decorative panel and replace it with a new one.

Decorative strips on the doors perform the main function - they help to disguise large and small defects, moreover, they can be used to improve the appearance of a sash that has recently been in use. If desired, the shade, surface configuration and texture of such a coating change. The overlays are one-piece, which greatly simplifies installation. For comparison, materials such as plastic and veneer panels, fiberboard take longer to install due to their compact dimensions.

There are a large number of decorating methods, which differ in the type of material used, the degree of difficulty in implementing the idea. The most common:

  1. Coloring. This method is preferable to use for finishing the entrance metal door. The paint prevents moisture and improves the appearance of the sash. This material is used to decorate the door from the outside and inside. However, the coating gradually loses its properties, which means that it should be periodically restored. This recommendation applies to cases where the sash is located on the border with the street. In apartment buildings, the paint on the door leaf will last longer.
  2. Upholstery with soft materials such as leatherette, leather. The choice is made taking into account the financial capabilities, since the implementation of the second option will cost more. It is permissible to finish the entrance door from the inside and outside. To improve the appearance, foam rubber is laid under the upholstery.
  3. Laminate. Plates of different sizes are used. Installation is carried out by placing the door in a horizontal plane. For fastening, an adhesive or nails are used. The first of the options is suitable for metal doors, the second for wooden doors. If glue is to be used, after mounting the laminate boards from above, any relatively heavy load is placed on the horizontally oriented door leaf.

Any of the methods can be used to decorate the old door. However, the sash must be cleaned first.

Mirror decor

The advantages of this method:

  1. expansion of space;
  2. the ability to distract guests from defects on the sash;
  3. if desired, a large-sized mirror is installed, which will not only distract from scratches or chips on the surface of the door leaf, but also close them; this will also transform the interior.

Decorating doors can be done quickly and without the need for help with amalgam acrylic panels. They are characterized by excellent reflectivity and can be installed on doors made of any material. The advantages of this solution:

  • a wide range of design options that differ in the color of the base;
  • acrylic panels are not deformed;
  • small weight of a product with a mirror surface;
  • attractive appearance.

The main disadvantage is the high cost of the material. Due to its light weight, decorating the door with acrylic panels is easy to do on your own. During the operation of the sash, maintenance is not required, since the mirror element does not weigh down the structure.

Classification of door strips

Such products are divided into groups according to two parameters: the type of material from which they are made; appearance. There are the following types:

  1. natural wood panels;
  2. plywood;
  3. plastic products.

Decorative elements for doors are also selected taking into account the parameters. The following characteristics are taken into account:

  • strength;
  • wear resistance;
  • life time;
  • moisture resistance, which is especially important if you plan to install the linings in the opening on the border with the street.

Plastic overlays will last longer than wood counterparts. Such panels are durable enough to withstand the negative effects of external factors. The surface of the plywood and MDF board can be damaged if not protected with film materials. Natural wood serves for a long time, but on condition that the decor of the entrance door is made according to all the rules: first, the sash surface is prepared, then it is covered with sheathing.

Wooden

Commercially available panel options:

  1. laminated;
  2. painted;
  3. veneered;
  4. varnished.

The difference between them lies in appearance and properties. The lacquered panels on the door look more attractive, since in this case the natural pattern of the cut of the tree is preserved. Laminated products are covered with a waterproof film, but it is still better not to install them on doors bordering the street. Thanks to the protective film, the decorative finish of the doors will last longer. However, this is the best option when installed in apartments.

Painted products are inferior to the analogs discussed above in appearance. However, they can be decorated, while the sash is covered with paint of the desired color. If you plan to install overlays on the front door, the choice is made taking into account the style direction of the interior of the room.

Veneered panels tolerate moisture worse than analogues. They last longer if they are not in direct contact with water, for example in apartment buildings. Veneered and laminated panels are subject to restoration in case of deformation due to moisture, but this will take a lot of effort, money and time. In private houses, it is recommended to install lacquered or painted decorative panels. They are easier to restore. The coating will have to be repaired regularly (every 3-5 years).

MDF

This material is a wood derivative. It consists of fine shavings called wood dust. To glue these particles to each other, polymer compositions are used. This combination of materials allows for durable panels that are resistant to moisture.

However, MDF overlays are hygroscopic if there is no cladding layer on top. A laminating film is used as this material. When choosing the decor of interior doors, it should be remembered that the slightest deformation of the cladding will lead to a deterioration in the water-repellent properties of the panel. It is recommended to install MDF linings in apartments. If, nevertheless, it was decided to mount them on the entrance flap of a private house, it is better to make a canopy and try to exclude the possibility of product contact with water.

Plywood

In terms of properties, this option is similar to natural wood: it is prone to decay, is unstable to moisture (deforms and swells). However, if the wood can be protected with antiseptics and special impregnations (water repellents), then plywood, even with proper care, will fail faster. This is due to the heterogeneous structure: the presence of wood chips and adhesives.

The choice and installation of overlays of this type should be done provided that they do not border the street. In this case, the design of the door with plywood panels is mandatory. Decorating is carried out using the same materials as for natural wood: paints and varnishes, thin veneer, lamination.

Plastic pads

This is another option for finishing the entrance sash, however, such panels surpass the analogs discussed above in terms of service life, degree of reliability, and resistance to moisture. Plastic can be used for decades. If you choose high-quality linings, the coating will retain its properties throughout the entire period of service. Such products do not deform, do not break in the cold, are resistant to high temperatures, and do not fade in the sun.

Panels of this type can be installed on wooden, metal or plastic doors. They are suitable for installation in an apartment and a private house. It does not matter if the pad is in contact with water. If such products represent a low or medium price category, care should be taken to protect the structure by installing a canopy over the entrance to the facility, since in this case the quality of the material is worse. The plastic has a finish, it is sewn into the structure of the panel, so it will not flake off like decorative stickers on the door.

Self-assembly

Before buying, you should familiarize yourself with the range of similar products. The fact is that the overlays are offered in two versions: for outdoor and indoor installation. Products of both varieties differ in size. The installation method for each group of materials is also used differently. Do-it-yourself door decor is installed according to the instructions:

  1. All fittings are dismantled: lock, handle, peephole.
  2. First, an overlay is installed on the inner side of the door leaf. It is pre-treated with an adhesive, which will strengthen the structure.
  3. The lining is fixed with clamps.
  4. The sash is perforated: 4 rows of 5 holes.
  5. It is necessary to insert self-tapping screws into the prepared areas. It is important to correctly calculate their length, otherwise the front side of the door will be damaged.
  6. The clamps are removed.
  7. The described steps are repeated when installing the cover for external fixation, however, in this case, the screws must be located along the perimeter of the sash. Moreover, they are installed in areas where the sheet of metal protrudes beyond the frame of the door leaf.

Recommended spacing of fasteners: 20-25 cm. Self-tapping screws must be decorated, for which sealing gaskets are used. If you need to improve the appearance of the interior door, use a similar method. However, for fastening, it is enough to pick up the glue.
