How to lay tiles correctly - common mistakes and installation tips. How to lay tiles on the floor: stages of work, how to lay tiles correctly Prices for moisture-resistant drywall

Laying tiles in the bathroom has its own distinctive features and implementation methodology. In this article we will look at the main points of this process and define several important details and features when carrying out such repair work.

How to lay tiles in the bathroom is decided on its size, the number of transitions and the screen in front of the bathroom.

So all the work will be done in several stages:

Making a plan First you need to do some calculations. To do this, we take measurements and select tiles. She may be different sizes and you need to choose the optimal one. After all, waste must be kept to a minimum.
Material purchase In this matter, it is necessary to take into account that in any case there will be waste. And this is at least 5%. Also, when purchasing, you should study the instructions for the material. There are usage options there. Also pay attention to the back side of the tile. It shouldn't be porous.
Preparing the plane The plane must be level.

Attention: Bathroom walls must be treated before laying tiles antifungal compounds. If this disease occurs, then all the finishing will have to be removed. So prevention in this case is mandatory.

Facing How to lay tiles on the walls in the bathroom will be described below. But don't forget that you must have all the tools. They will have to not only lay the tiles, but also cut them.

Laying tiles on the walls in the bathroom is also creative. So you will need to immediately create a pattern. The work management system will largely depend on this. Now let's take a closer look at how to lay tiles on a wall.

Preparatory work

Laying tiles on a bathroom wall begins with preparing the base plane. It is on this that the tiles will be glued in the future. Need to do special screen(as a rule, plasterboard is used as a material for production).

The actions at the initial stage are always the same. It is recommended to install a bathtub and connect it to the sewer system. When installing, it is important to use a level so that it stands as level as possible, without tilting towards the drain hole.

It's hard to imagine modern renovation without using tiles. Ceramics has many advantages that other finishing materials do not have. And when you need to decorate a bathroom, you really can’t do without tiles. And you need to remember that laying tiles refers to expensive pleasures, but it’s very interesting to do.

Due to the combination of these factors, the ranks of tile fans are growing; many people want to feel like a “tile master” and do the installation themselves.

Before getting down to business, it is advisable to take a theoretical course, so today we set out to introduce everyone to how to lay tiles on a wall.

We won’t talk about laying floor tiles, but rest assured that if you manage to tile a wall, you can definitely handle the floors. When laying tiles on vertical surfaces, you need to take into account gravity, take a course in complex geometry, and much more that you will have to face during the work. But, as they say, it’s not the holy pots that are fired, so let’s get started.

Preparing the surface

We recommend laying ceramics on glue mixture or cement-sand mortar. The base is prepared depending on the type of mixture chosen. If you choose glue (and this is not surprising), then the walls are leveled with plaster or sheets of drywall with glue. The main thing is that the surface of the base is as smooth as possible.

If you work with cement-sand mortar, the layer of the mixture will be quite large, but you will have to do less leveling beforehand. We will talk about how to lay tiles on a flat surface. This method is much simpler, more modern and much easier to learn. The “mortar” method is more suitable for professionals with many years of experience, although even some experienced tilers find it difficult to work with it.

Make sure that the base is at least approximately perfectly level. So that there are no pipes on the surface (there are special boxes for this), and laying ceramic tiles on the wall was continuous, without distraction to the side due to various obstacles. If the surface is smooth, then glue consumption will be minimal, and the cladding will proceed at an accelerated pace. The prepared base must be primed, especially plastered.

If installation is planned on a painted surface, then you need to either remove the paint or notch the wall. It is important that nothing falls off the wall or peels off. A properly prepared base is the key to the beauty and durability of the installation.

Necessary tool

To work on wall cladding, you will need a certain tool, so you should arm yourself in advance:

  • trowel or spatula;
  • notched spatula (comb);
  • bubble level;
  • water or laser level;
  • wire cutters;
  • tile cutter;
  • 1.5m rule;
  • grinder with diamond disc;
  • crosses and wedges for tiles;
  • foam sponge;
  • rubber spatula.

In addition, you will need a hammer and a tape measure, we hope that you will not have to buy this - a good owner always has such a tool. To mix the glue you will need a drill with a special attachment, so try to get one. You can prepare the glue by hand, but it is long and difficult, and there will be lumps of unmixed glue that negatively affect the result. facing works.

Carrying out markings

The very first rule correct installation— important and visible places should be covered with whole tiles. The cut tiles are laid in less visible places. Quantity counting required tiles is carried out at the leveling stage.

There are cases when the base was covered with a large layer of mortar if the piece of tile in the corner was too small. It's better to donate small area than to admire a two-centimeter “stub” in the corner for many years.

If the corners are of visual value, then limit the trimming to the edges of the row. The size of the trim in the corners should be the same. In this matter, you can be guided by certain rules, but the decision is still yours.

The main rule of vertical marking is that there is a whole tile at the top. But there are no rules without exceptions, so decide for yourself, with your own taste and common sense. The height of the floor and ceiling and the size of the tile joints play a big role. They are, of course, small, but given the scale of the cladding, they can accumulate up to extra centimeters.

The marking is carried out depending on the chosen layout method, the most popular of which are:

  • seam to seam;
  • at a run;
  • diagonally.

If you are a beginner, then you should not take on diagonal styling - it is the most difficult.

The “staggering” method is imitation brickwork, is easy to do, even for a novice tiler. The most common type of installation is seam-to-seam. When performing it, the vertical and horizontal are strictly observed, because even the slightest deviation will become noticeable.

All about the correct layout in this video:

Laying begins not from the first, but from the second, even sometimes from the third row. This is necessary to floor tiles was covered with a wall because:

  • much more beautiful view;
  • water that flows down the walls will not linger in the contour seams;
  • cutting wall tiles is easier than cutting floor tiles.

If the floor is already tiled (wrongly, of course, and in violation of technology, but it happens), then laying on the walls begins from the first row. But this option is not very welcome, because then there will be trimming under the ceiling.

If you have already determined where the lighthouse row will be, then mark the top edge of the first row with a water level. Laser would be faster and easier, but it’s not worth buying it for the cladding alone.

Make horizontal markings around the entire perimeter, see how the tiles fit around the pipes. You may need to move the mark so you don't have to worry about making a difficult cut. According to the finished marks:

  • the beacon cord is pulled;
  • a solid line is drawn.

It is better to use the first option, you will be able to control the horizon and plane. If you are doing cladding using mortar, then only the first option is suitable. Vertical control can be done using plumb lines or the same line, but along the Y axis.

Glue-based cladding involves the use of a support bar to fix the lighthouse row. Most often used aluminum profile or wooden slats.

Laying tiles

For cladding, we select an adhesive mixture that will fully cope with the task. There is no need to try to knead the glue by hand; it is difficult to achieve a normal consistency and avoid lumps, so it is better to use a mixer.

The glue is applied with a spatula - either on the base or on the tile, the excess is removed with a comb. After this, smooth grooves are obtained, forming a uniform layer.

The size of the comb teeth should correspond to the tile format and the degree of readiness of the base. If the tile size is large and the surface is not very smooth, then the comb teeth should be larger.

We lay the first tile, focusing on horizontal and vertical marks. If you are working with a cord, then the tiling process should begin from the corner of the second row, then remove the thread and continue laying the rest of the tiles.

For fixation, you need to use wedges that are inserted between the support strip and the tile. Lay only whole tiles for now; you will return to trimming closer to the end of the work. To ensure uniform seams, crosses are inserted between the tiles.

The most commonly used thickness is 2 mm.

The plane of the facing can be controlled with a cord or a rule. The edge of the tile should lie on the beacon line. Each row can be checked for verticality with a bubble level. This is the order in which they cover the walls themselves.

Trimming can be done immediately, but most often it is done at the final stage. When working, adhere to the chosen scheme and carefully monitor the pattern on the tile. Very often it is vague and it is not always clear which side to lay the tiles on. This is not difficult, because on the back of each tile there are arrows showing the direction of the pattern; you need to follow them and lay them in one direction.

Correct wall cladding in the bathroom in this video:

Cutting tiles

When doing your own cladding, it is absolutely not necessary to buy an expensive tool for. If you have a tile cutter, good; if not, you can take a glass cutter or scriber with a Pobedit tip. You immediately need to mark a line where you need to cut the tile, then the tile is fixed on any smooth surface.

We draw along the intended line several times with any tool, lay the tiles on the corner and press - we get a finished trim. If you work with a tile cutter, you need to follow the cutting line once, otherwise you can simply break the tile or get an uneven edge.

This is how straight lines are cut, but figuratively cut tiles are also needed for cladding. To obtain round hole, you can use a grinder and a diamond disc. When you need to make a lot of holes, and there is no angle grinder, you just take a cheap diamond-coated blade. The process will be long and labor-intensive, but not expensive.

We rub the seams

After any installation of tiles, it is necessary to grout the joints using special compounds. The work is done with a rubber spatula, with which the mixture is tightly distributed over the seams. The speed of troweling depends on the choice of material and skills in such work. Up to 4m2 of surface can be treated at the same time. Use a foam sponge to remove residues. It is also used to distribute along the seam and level the putty.

Self-cladding walls, which we talked about today, has some nuances that you need to remember:

  • Before starting tiling work, carefully examine your tiles. First of all, you should be interested in geometry, calibration and quality. Sort all the tiles according to size, so there is every chance of getting the same seams.
  • Please pay attention Special attention surface preparation, do not skimp on the primer and make all corners straight.
  • Use it for outside corners - it’s not very aesthetically pleasing, but it’s safe, especially if there are children who could slip and hit the corner painfully or even get seriously injured.
  • Laying tiles requires a dry surface.

Counting expenses

Let's calculate our costs for laying tiles in a bathroom with an area of 3.5 m2:

  • Guide profiles 27x28 mm - 2 pcs - 90 rub.
  • Tile adhesive Fix 3 pcs x 25 kg - 717 rub.
  • Strengthening soil Plitonit 1 l - 98 rub.
  • Plastic crosses 2 mm 300 pcs - 60 rub.
  • Kiilto grout mixture 3 kg -320 rub.
  • Dowels and screws - 20 rubles.

In total, we spent 1,305 rubles on installation, excluding the cost of tiles and work on preparing the base. If you decide to do the cladding yourself, then you will also need to buy all the necessary tools. If you invite a professional, laying tiles on the bathroom walls will cost you from 13 to 15 thousand rubles + grout.

Which option do you prefer - purchasing the right tool and tiling yourself or paying for the work of a tiler and simply waiting for the work to be completed? This is up to you to decide for yourself.

Archaeologists claim that laying tiles on the floor and walls, decorating a home or room, began in ancient Babylon. The beautiful tiles that were used to decorate the halls of the ancient kings never cease to amaze the scientists who made these finds. Each tile had its own manufacturing technology. Each particle played a big role in the final pattern. No generation will remain indifferent when they see this beauty, and the complexity of the work is admirable. Modernity makes this work easier by allowing you to purchase already ready-made options. Its production is simpler, the work is done faster, and the possibility of replacing defects is much higher. How not to make a mistake when choosing materials, what tools are used, the work algorithm will tell you the material below.

Dear craftsmen, it may not be useful if you maintain the correct sequence of preparing the coating for laying the tiles yourself. Costs will be minimal. And if you calculate the price of tools and the materials used, you can save a lot. If you still decide to lay ceramic tiles yourself, then you need to adhere to certain rules. They are designed to be able to maintain the attractiveness of the final work and its longevity.

You need to lay the tiles following the sequence:

  • Prepare the surface;
  • Mark the position of the initial row and set support restrictions;
  • Lay the first row;
  • Fill the entire surface with solid tiles;
  • Cut and arrange the remaining pieces;
  • After all, sand the seams.

By preparation we mean: plaster the walls and get rid of the remnants of the previous coating. Remove all baseboards and clean the wall from dust and dirt. If the floor is being laid, it is necessary to form a screed. If this is a room with high humidity, you need to add a layer of waterproofing.

Before laying the tiles, markings are made.

A plastic corner is placed at the bottom of the wall, onto which the first tiles are oriented. A line is required to control vertical laying. The floor, unlike the wall, starts from the far corner. Posted full line at the door so as not to lose the drawing later. Having completed all the work with solid tiles, you should start cutting the missing pieces and laying them. It is better to place them after they are completely filled in solid pieces. After waiting until glue solution When it dries, you can take out all the crosses and rub the seams. Any grout can be selected: with a cement base, silicone or epoxy. Before grouting, you need to thoroughly clean the laid tiles and the seams between them with a vacuum cleaner.

How to lay tiles correctly

To choose the right tile, you need to take into account its characteristics: moisture resistance, price, resistance to large temperature changes, composition.

The sequence of work on laying tiles:

  • Starting point;
  • Laying the adhesive composition;
  • Laying tiles with glue;
  • Trimming;
  • Grout.

In order to start laying tiles, you need to decide on the pattern and the number of elements on the surface. After this, it is necessary to prepare the surface of the tile and apply the required amount of adhesive. The adhesive is applied to the surface using a spatula and leveled until a uniform layer is formed. The tiles are laid using glue.

Horizontalness is checked with a level.

To level the tiles, use rubber hammer: you need to tap on its plane. Crosses are placed between the tiles, affecting the thickness of the seam. If necessary, the tiles can be adjusted to size by cutting them with a grinder or other tool. The final result can be seen in a couple of days, this is the time the adhesive needs to harden.

Do-it-yourself high-quality tile installation

The characteristics of the selected tile depend on the room in which it will be used. Therefore, it is necessary to select tiles that will meet the criteria of the room where they will be used. Premises that are “friendly” with tiles– bathroom, kitchen, bathhouse, hallway.

Tools required for laying tiles:

  • Cutter;
  • Saw;
  • Glue;
  • Level;
  • Gloves;
  • Yardstick;
  • Scraper;
  • Primer;
  • Container for liquid.

For rooms with a high degree of humidity, it is worth choosing tiles that are more resistant to this criterion. If this is a room with the possibility of repeated use (hallway), you should choose tiles that will not show signs of wear. For a bath it is better to use tiles that are resistant to high temperatures and with a matte finish to prevent falls. For the kitchen, you need to choose tiles that are highly resistant to impact and heat, as well as chemicals.

In order to properly lay tiles without screeds, you need to prepare a solution. Do not use a special mixture of ceramic glue. It is better to use the mixture cement based with the addition of sand and PVA glue.

It must be taken into account that when adding liquid and glue to this mixture, it must be made not liquid, but thick.

Mixing can be done on the floor. Laying is done on this mixture. Levelness is checked using a level. After this, the tile is removed and the surface on which it was glued is additionally moistened with water, bringing the solution to a more liquid consistency. Next, you should finally lay the tiles in the place where they were previously. After carrying out such manipulations, the solution is saturated with water and has all the necessary qualities. Upon completion of installation, it is necessary to give the solution a few days to dry.

Materials used:

  • Ceramic tile;
  • Cement based mortar;
  • Leveling tools;
  • Water.

This method is suitable for people who have experience in construction work. Before laying tiles using this method, it is worth reading the long instructions and list of materials, the sequence of performing such work.

Handmade correct laying of tiles on the floor

Correct installation depends on several elements. When choosing tiles for the floor in our home, we are guided by its location in the apartment. If a tile is chosen for a balcony or hallway, its size should be taken into account. Large tiles are more suitable for these rooms. A bathroom or kitchen needs small tiles. There is a trend to tile the kitchen various types and drawings. It is important to select tiles for the bathroom with an original design that will fit well with the water theme and give the room its own zest.

To be able to correctly lay tiles on the floor, you must follow the following sequence:

  • Preparing the floor for installation;
  • Applying the solution to the surface to be laid;
  • Leveling the solution on the surface;
  • Installing tiles on the surface;
  • Checking and adjusting the horizontal position of the tiles using tools and dismantling defects;
  • Filling the seams after blowing them with a vacuum cleaner.

Regardless of the location of the tile and its properties, the installation is as consistent as possible. Materials and tools are selected depending on budget and convenience. It is also worth paying attention to the class of the tile and its quality, because modern times rich in materials and binders for them.

Too porous tiles are not at all suitable for a bathhouse, but will serve well in the hallway.

Professional answer: how to lay tiles (video)

If there are children in the house, then the cleanliness of the floor and walls will fade into the background, since the tiles are easy to clean and do not dry for long. It is a fact that tiles do not retain heat well. This is its disadvantage. Therefore, it is worth having heated floors or a nice rug. Over time, abrasions form on the tiles, and they appearance fades. It is worth taking a responsible approach to caring for tiles. A steam cleaner takes excellent care of it. After exposing the tile to steam, you need to wipe it with a dry cloth. When buying tiles, you should take them with a reserve in case of mechanical damage.

It is hard to imagine renovation work without using tiles. It compares favorably with other types of finishes. And when decorating a bathroom and toilet, this material is a 100% leader. How to properly lay tiles on a wall?

Availability vertical surfaces forces one to take into account the influence of gravitational forces. It is also necessary to pay attention to the complex geometry of the coating and other parameters that influence the installation work.

Preparing the base

Laying ceramic tiles on the wall can be done using cement-sand mortars or tile adhesives.

Sometimes other binding materials are used. But similar situations occur quite rarely.

The type of solution used influences the subsequent work. If adhesives are used, the wall surface is plastered or covered with plasterboard. The purpose of pre-treatment is to obtain an even coating.

If a cement-sand mortar is used, a larger amount will be required. construction mixture. This article will talk about how to lay tiles on a wall with a flat surface. This technique is more modern. It doesn't take much time to learn. When using the “solution method” you will need more refined skills.

How to lay tiles on a wall in compliance with technology? Laying tiles on the wall is carried out to ensure the most even surface possible. Pipes and other connecting devices should first be hidden. When using a flat surface, a minimal amount of glue is used. This speeds up the cladding process.

On flat surface primer is applied on top. If there is a wall covering old paint, it must be removed and notches made on the wall.

Before laying tiles, the walls must be cleaned of paint.

The surface must have a solid structure.

Necessary tool

Before starting facing work, you should purchase special equipment. Laying tiles with your own hands is done using:

  • glass cutter;
  • two building levels;
  • roulette;
  • solution container;
  • marker;
  • rubber spatula for grouting;
  • support bar;
  • special adhesive composition;
  • water and foam sponges;
  • electric drill, which provides for the installation of a mixer attachment.

Carrying out marking

How to lay tiles on a wall to make it look good? Before starting masonry, it is necessary to carry out preparatory work.

When marking the cladding, it is necessary to take into account the following rules:

  • There should be a whole tile in the most visible places;
  • the number of tiles is calculated before surface treatment begins;
  • it may be necessary to use a larger volume of fastening material to level the wall covering;
  • if the angles are visually equivalent, trimming is carried out towards the edges;
  • when marking vertically, the whole tile should be left on top;
  • The height between the floor and the ceiling and the thickness of the tile joints are taken into account.

Installation of facing material

When dealing with the question of how to lay tiles on a wall, you should choose the type of installation. The simplest method is one that imitates brick laying. The most common method of laying is seam-to-seam. But when using it, it is necessary to strictly observe the vertical and horizontal positions of the joining seams. Any deviations will be immediately noticeable.

How to properly lay tiles on the wall so as not to violate the technology? Usually the second or third row is glued first. Ceramics must adhere correctly to the floor covering.

She covers him. As a result, water does not flow into the joints. After installing the lighthouse row of ceramics, marks are “punched” for laying the first row. A water level is used for this. Marking can be done using a laser device. But the device is relatively expensive. There is no point in buying it specifically.

How to lay tiles correctly if flooring already installed? The cladding is glued from the bottom row. It should be taken into account that a whole tile must be laid under the ceiling.

When initially marking the horizontal level along the entire perimeter, it is necessary to take into account possible trimming of the lining near the pipes. In some cases, the marks are shifted in order to avoid making a complex cut. Next, a cord is pulled along the marked marks and a solid line is drawn along it.

Better laid tiles post it the first way. In this case, the level of the horizontal and vertical planes is fully controlled. To control the vertical, a plumb line is used.

Wall cladding with ceramic tiles

Installation instructions

Laying tiles on the wall with your own hands is carried out in the following order:

  1. row 2 is laid out;
  2. the horizontal level is marked;
  3. to fix the lighthouse row, a support strip is used (aluminum profile or wooden strip);
  4. using a mixer, the adhesive composition is mixed;
  5. for applying glue to wall covering and ceramics use a special spatula;
  6. excess adhesive is removed using;
  7. an even coating with several furrows is formed;

To install the first tile, horizontal and vertical marks are used. Laying tiles with your own hands starts from the corner of the second row. For control horizontal plane a horizontal cord should be used. A water level is used for final testing.

Cutting tiles

Before laying the tiles, you will have to cut them. First of all, you should stock up cutting tool. Regular pruning is done with a manual tile cutter.

You can also use a glass cutter or scriber with a pobedite solder at the end. Cutting is carried out as follows:

  • a cutting line is outlined;
  • the slab should be laid on a level place and fixed;
  • draw along the marked line several times with the cutting tool used;
  • The tile is placed on the nails and gently pressed on it.

When using a tile cutter, the cutting roller is used only once. Repetition may result in jagged edges. For figure cutting use a grinder and a diamond wheel.

Grouting joints

After the tiles are laid on the wall, the surface of the seams is cleaned of any remaining adhesive and grouted. For this purpose, a special construction composition. The grout is applied using a rubber spatula.

The gaps between the tiles are filled with the solution used. Use a foam sponge to remove residues.

Foam sponges will help to distribute the grout evenly

With its help, the grout is evenly distributed along the seams.

When deciding how to lay tiles correctly, you need to pay attention to the following points:

  • Before laying the tile yourself, you should check its quality and calibration;
  • the material used is sorted by size to obtain smooth seams;
  • at the stage of pre-treatment of the wall surface, you should not skimp on the primer;
  • The verticality and horizontality of the masonry should be periodically checked;
  • The adhesive composition must be applied to a dry coating.

Joining tiles and laminate

When using modern design solutions, you have to dock various types coatings. Quite often, laminate is used to finish the floor, and tiles are glued to the wall. As a result, money is saved.

The laminate laying technology involves several options for joining with wall ceramics.

The area where tiles and flooring meet may vary geometric shape. For its processing, building materials are used that can be deformed manually.

Laying options for laminate flooring may vary. The material used to finish the joining areas must have the following properties:

  • the design helps to increase the service life of coatings;
  • The service life of the connecting product must not be less than the service life flooring and ceramics;
  • the connecting coating must be waterproof, sealing unprotected areas;
  • using a connecting device, fastening parts are masked;
  • installation of the material should be carried out in the shortest possible time;
  • the threshold is used as a decorative and reinforcing element.

The threshold has a decorative character

Joining materials

Technological joining of laminate and ceramics can be done using the following products:

  • use of flexible PVC profile allows you to connect curved bends;
  • a flexible metal profile is used to connect curved zones and straight seams;
  • an aluminum threshold is used to process the joining surfaces under the door leaf;
  • the use of a box threshold increases sound insulation and seals joints;
  • using a transition PVC profile, coatings are finished with big difference heights;
  • when using a cork expansion joint, a smooth joining surface is obtained between the laminate and the tile;
  • Using a T-shaped profile from solid wood, straight seams are made.

Error correction

If a person is laying tiles for the first time, mistakes may be made during the finishing process. If the thickness of the adhesive composition is not calculated accurately, the cladding may lie unevenly. It is peeled off before final hardening occurs, the glue is cleaned off and the installation is carried out again.

Chips on the edges of the tiles are masked using grouting material. The tile is durable building material. At correct installation it will be able to serve you for a long time.

06-02-2015

Walls lined with tiles are a very successful and durable finishing option. If the work is done efficiently and in accordance with all the rules, then you can get rid of repairs for 20, or even 30 years. In addition to saving on repairs, tiling allows you to simplify the maintenance of the surface of walls and floors several times.

Nowadays you can buy tiles whose appearance resembles others Decoration Materials such as wood, a natural stone and so on. Therefore, the aesthetic side of finishing a kitchen or bathroom will be on high level. If you want to get an even greater percentage of savings by choosing tiles as a finish, then do this work yourself. How to lay tiles will be described below.

Getting Started: Features

Before you begin installation, you must carry out a series of preparatory work. This also includes measuring the area that will be finished with tiles. Using a tape measure we do necessary measurements horizontally, vertically, and also diagonally. Basically, this process must be carried out especially carefully so that unexpected surprises do not await you during the work.

The geometric parameters of the room can be checked very simply using wooden beam. A more accurate way to detect vertical deviations involves using a plumb line. Its design consists of a rope length from ceiling to floor, at the end of which a load is attached.

Horizontal parameters are checked using a factory-made or home-made level. In case of significant deviations, it is necessary to level the walls using a layer of plaster.

If you decide that leveling is not necessary, then puddles will form in the recesses on the floor, and the tiles on the walls will look unsightly, since serious differences are not only noticeable, but also have their effect Negative influence on the quality of masonry and its durability.

The next stage includes the creation of a drawing, which will contain a floor plan indicating the scheme for future finishing. Floor tiles, walls and all difficult areas in the plumbing area and so on must be clearly marked in the plan.

When performing calculations required quantity materials, it is necessary to slightly increase the result obtained, since anything can happen during the work process. You may accidentally damage the tiles, or you may receive a defective copy.

Buy tiles from the right quantity you need it right away, because after a while the store may no longer have the color you need.

Selection of materials and preparation of tools

Choose grout to match the color of the tile.

The choice of tile adhesive also has its own characteristics. It must be designed for the conditions in which the tiles are expected to be used. For example, a bathroom or work zone kitchens require the use of special glue that is resistant to moisture. At the same time as buying glue, you need to purchase grout that will match the shade of the tile. If your project does not plan to use colored grout, then you can purchase a regular type of compound.

In addition to the materials listed above, to lay tiles with your own hands, you will need the following tools:

  • construction mixer. It is useful for the process of mixing various types of compositions, for example, primers. If you don't have a construction mixer, you can use a regular one. electric drill equipped with a special mixing nozzle;
  • serrated spatula. The size of this tool directly depends on the size of the tiles chosen for laying;
  • a spatula measuring 10 cm, with its help you will apply the composition to a toothed tool, you can also use a trowel;
  • To cut tiles you will need a tile cutter. If you don’t have one, you can use a regular glass cutter;
  • if the scope of work is very large, then you will need a grinder to speed up the progress of work and facilitate the process of cutting tiles;
  • another spatula, but this one made of rubber. It is used to apply grout to the finished surface.

For beginning, inexperienced craftsmen, the most suitable and easiest to perform method of laying tiles is called “seam to seam”. There are, of course, other, more complex methods, but for the first time it is better to start with simple ones. If the finishing also involves the use of decorative details (borders, friezes, etc.), then their location must be thought out in advance. Buy these decorative elements you also need some reserve.

Prepare the surface for laying tiles

Only in the case of a perfectly prepared surface, the quality of the tile finish and its strength will be guaranteed to you. For this purpose it is necessary:

  1. Carefully check the entire area of the surface to be treated for the quality of the plaster fastening, and if weak spots are found, clean the wall down to the brickwork.
  2. Dismantle all plumbing fixtures, this way you will prevent damage to them during the work, and finishing will be simpler, since nothing will interfere with you.
  3. Walls that are already tiled must be freed from the old covering.
  4. When carrying out this work, take care of eye and hand protection. If the walls have a layer of paint on their surface, it also needs to be removed; this can be done using a hammer drill.
  5. After all these procedures have been completed, you need to begin the process of leveling the walls.
