Wooden doors from boards are affordable DIY methods. Making doors of different designs with your own hands How to make a wooden door

For owners of land plots and their own houses, the question is relevant: how to make a door from boards with your own hands? In any courtyard there is always a certain number of utility rooms: an outdoor toilet, storage rooms garden tools, tools, various devices and supplies. Doors provide protection from dust, fallen leaves, precipitation, depending on the season. In the presence of pets, doors block their access to unwanted places.

Doorway or jamb

Home-made doors, if you have the necessary tools, will cost much less than those bought or ordered in the workshop. The consumption and quality of the material will depend on the functionality of the room and the type of structure being made. A door for insulated rooms will cost more than a simple door for a barn, but still, when making it yourself, there will be significant savings compared to those purchased in a store. For more complex designs, you need to have some experience and a set of tools.

The front door for the house is a rather complex design and must be made with the proper quality. In the absence of the necessary experience, it is advisable to purchase it in a specialized store.

For the manufacture of doors, it is necessary to use well-dried material. During the manufacturing process and after final assembly, the product must be covered with protective solutions from moisture. Otherwise, the door will change its size depending on weather conditions.

To make the most simple door to give, you need a tool:

 • wood saw;
 • planer electric or manual;
 • screwdriver or hammer;
 • emery skin;
 • meter ruler or tape measure.

Before starting work, you should determine whether it is necessary to install a doorway or whether the door can be fixed to the wall. You also need to consider which way the door will open, outward or inward. If the room has wooden walls, in some cases, door hinges can be attached to the wall. On the second side, it is desirable to install a stop so that the door does not fall in the opposite direction.

Manufacturing must begin with a doorway, if necessary. From a bar desired section it is necessary to cut two vertical racks and horizontal crossbars. When determining the size, be sure to take into account the type of connection of the bars: end-to-end or half-tree. The door of the boards can be made recessed, the outer or inner surface of the door must coincide with the corresponding plane of the doorway. To do this, quarters are selected in the bar - special grooves where the door will enter. This operation can be performed on an electric planer or woodworking machine. With some experience, the grooves can be cut circular saw by finely adjusting the depth of cut. All lumber should preferably be planed before cutting. For planed surfaces consumption protective coating less. In case of impossibility to trim whole material cut pieces can be processed.

With an overhead design, the door, when closed, rests on the surface of the doorway.

The blanks for the opening must be connected to each other in the chosen way. For fastening, you can use wood glue, screws or nails. When using glue, you need to withstand the required period of time for solidification. During assembly, it is necessary to strictly control the position of the corners of the structure.

Simple door for unheated rooms

Upon completion, you can begin to make a door from the boards. The prepared material must be cut into elements of the required length. The number of parts will depend on the width of the door and boards. The boards are laid in the grooves or on the surface of the jamb until completely filled. With a shortage of whole boards, it is undesirable to insert from a narrower part. It is necessary to calculate and cut the details so that the door consists of elements of the same width. Laid boards can be pulled together with clamps or wedges. To connect the parts into a single structure, you need to cut out three connecting elements: two crossbars and a diagonal. Cross connections are located at the top and bottom of the canvas in a horizontal position, the diagonal between them in any convenient direction. The shape of the attachment is similar to the letter "Z". Then the whole structure is fastened with screws or nails. Attachment points should be located asymmetrically, preferably in the form of a triangle or trapezoid. This will provide additional structural rigidity.

Making a door with your own hands is quite simple. It remains to fix the hinges, handles, if necessary, a lock or valve. Some of these operations can be performed by yourself after the product is in place.

Door for rooms with insulation

A do-it-yourself wooden door for a room with heating (for example, for a bathhouse or a warm garage) can be made from boards 40-50 mm thick. Most the best option is an batten with tongue and groove.

Manufacturing begins with a doorway. The sequence is the same as in the previous version. The beam for the opening must be at least 75 mm thick or correspond to the thickness of the walls of the room. The entrance door is desirable to perform in a recessed version.

For the door, it is necessary to cut blanks desired length and fill the doorway with them. The width of the opening must be calculated in advance so that the filling occurs in the most complete segments. Width adjustment can only be made using the edge boards.

Workpieces must be aligned, compressed and fixed in doorway. To connect the structure, you need to make two dowels. The dowels are wooden bars, the length of which is equal to the width of the door. In cross section, the bars should have the shape of an isosceles trapezoid. The width of the base is 40-60 mm, the width of the upper part is from 40 to 30 mm. The dowels can be fastened to the door with screws or nails overlaid. More reliable option- cut grooves for them. To make grooves you will need:

 • circular saw hand electrified;
 • chisel;
 • mallet;
 • emery skin.

Grooves are marked on the fixed boards. The width of the cut on the surface of the wooden doors should be equal to the width between the hips of the trapezoid at half the height. On the saw, you need to set the required angle of inclination and make two cuts according to the marking. Then the array between the cuts must be removed with a chisel and mallet. Smooth out the resulting irregularities with an emery cloth.

Hammer the dowels into the grooves with a mallet, secure with screws or nails. Before assembly, it is advisable to put all joints of wooden doors on carpentry glue.

Manufacture and install various designs Do-it-yourself entrance doors are quite easy with a little experience working with wood. In the complete absence of skills, it is advisable to start with the simplest designs, gradually moving to more complex and perfect ones.

A warm door is obtained by upholstering on one or both sides of this product with a layer of felt or other insulation.

Paneled entrance and interior doors

The next most difficult to make with your own hands can be considered a paneled wooden entrance door. This type of door is the most common. To work with such a design, in addition to the above tool, you will need:

 1. electric drill;
 2. milling machine, stationary or portable;
 3. grinding machine.

Schemes of paneled doors are quite diverse. In appearance, they differ in the shape and number of panels, according to the type they are divided into input with insulation and internal. A solid door with panels installed in the middle is considered an interior or interior door. A product with panels installed overlay on both sides, and a heater located between them, are considered input or external.

If you need an entrance wooden door with your own hands, how to make it with panels so that it lasts a long period? For doors of this type, it is important to use high-quality, well-dried material. For the manufacture of the frame and door leaf, it is desirable to choose material from hardwood, for internal parts, you can use cheaper wood.

The step-by-step process of making doors looks like this:

 1. cut blanks required size. If dimensions source material smaller sizes blanks, cut into several parts for subsequent gluing.
 2. Treat all surfaces of the workpieces with a planer or emery cloth.
 3. Glue all blanks of parts cut into pieces. Glue must be applied in a continuous layer on both workpieces and kept in a compressed state for the required time.
 4. After hardening, re-process the surfaces of the parts and give them the desired dimensions.
 5. According to the chosen design milling machine cut grooves and spikes on all parts.

How to make a wooden panel if the dimensions of the material are smaller than the dimensions of the product? It is necessary to cut several elements from which you can glue the workpiece of the required size. After connecting with it, you need to mark the necessary shape and carefully cut it out.

After preparing and checking all the details, you can begin to assemble the product. After the assembly is completed, the door must be compressed with clamps or wedges and left until the adhesive has completely hardened.

Making wooden doors with your own hands is quite realistic. Basic rule: the quality of the product and its service life largely depend on the quality of the material used.

The construction of a wooden door from boards is not a problem for a modern owner. The process will not cause any difficulties, and the cost homemade product will be less than the purchase of a finished structure. To competently make a door, you need to decide on its type, choose high-quality material and prepare a minimum set of tools. step by step technology making a door from boards is described in the article.

Features of wood doors

The construction market offers a wide range of entrance and interior doors. Despite the appearance modern materials wood products do not lose their popularity in the arrangement of apartments, country houses, offices and public institutions.

Doors made of wood have a number of undeniable advantages:

 • low sound and thermal conductivity;
 • high frost resistance and good strength;
 • low coefficient of thermal expansion;
 • durability of wooden structures with proper harvesting and processing of the material;
 • environmental friendliness of wood - such doors fill the home positive energy and add natural harmony to the house;
 • excellent appearance and the possibility of implementing unusual design ideas- wooden doors look good in any interior style.

However, wood, as a raw material for the manufacture of doors, is not without some disadvantages:

 • high hygroscopicity - untreated wood absorbs moisture, which subsequently worsens the physical and mechanical properties of the structure;
 • imperfection of the material - resin pockets, cracks or knots may be present on low-quality wood;
 • combustibility.

The disadvantages of a wooden door are a consequence of poor-quality material and a violation of harvesting technologies. To reduce absorption, the boards must be dried, treated with hot steam and special impregnations.

Types of wood doors

Before you understand how to properly make a door from boards, you need to decide on the nuances of the design different types doors and features of their manufacture.

massive doors are made of planed or thick tongue-and-groove boards interconnected into a single sheet. To strengthen the structure, inclined or horizontal jumpers are installed.

In the manufacture of a massive door, you must carefully approach the choice of wood. The entrance structure is best constructed from dense material high quality, for example: cedar, oak or larch. These types of wood are characterized by a dense structure and textured pattern.

If the question is how to make a door to the bath from the boards, then you can use less expensive raw materials (pine, spruce, linden). The main condition is the treatment with water-repellent and antiseptic agents.

Paneled doors are made of timber and boards obtained by gluing wooden lamellas. Subsequently, the beam is covered natural veneer, and the door acquires an aesthetic appearance. Depending on the idea of the performer, the panels can have the same or different configuration, some wooden elements replaced with glass.

High quality paneled doors are virtually indistinguishable from solid wood construction.

Transverse and vertical elements are often made from glued beams. To make the door a floorboard of the desired thickness is well suited for such work. Separate structural elements are fastened together with spikes or dowels. When creating a paneled door, you need to consider:

 • the strength of the door depends on the number of transverse - the more there are, the more reliable the home-made structure;
 • frames are formed from thick timber, and panel panels are made from MDF, thin boards or plastic with wood imitation;
 • the thickness of the panel, as a rule, is 1/3 of the thickness of the glued beam frame;
 • fixing panels in frames with natural or veneered glazing beads.

Paneled doors are thin, so they are usually installed between rooms.

How to make a door from unedged boards: video "Making a paneled structure".

Panel doors- a budget option made from inexpensive materials - fiberboard, lined with laminate or veneer. The panel structure is a frame made of boards and internal filling(shield). Used as a shield chipboard sheets, fiberboard, thick cardboard or MDF.

In turn, panel doors are classified into three types:

 1. Solid structures are completely filled with edged or uncut timber, fastened together.
 2. Hollow doors consist of transverse and side bars. The frame is sheathed with clapboard, fiberboard or other material. Inside the structure, vertical and horizontal crossbars can be installed.
 3. Small-hollow door leafs have different degrees of filling.

Advice. To create a high-quality panel door, the frame is covered with plywood made of alder or linden. The thickness of the cladding is 4-8 mm (two layers of 24 mm each). Such material is not deformed and is a good basis for decorative finishing.

The choice of wood for the manufacture of doors

The first step in the manufacture of an entrance or interior door is the selection of suitable lumber. You need to evaluate your own financial opportunities, decide on the type of wood and choose the material from which it will be possible to make doors. Wooden boards must meet the following requirements:

 • wood should not have knots, in extreme cases, there should be very few of them;
 • the residual moisture content of raw materials for the manufacture of doors should be about 12-15% - it is better to choose material dried in a special chamber; such drying guarantees the strength of wood and resistance to deformation;
 • evenness of the boards - before buying, the material must be laid on a flat surface and check the fit on the sides;
 • thickness wooden planks for the manufacture of doors depends on the place of its installation - for the entrance structure it is optimal - 5 cm, for interior door fit wood with a thickness of 2.5 cm;
 • before using the board, it is necessary to sand it with sandpaper or a grinder.

For work, wood of both coniferous and hardwood. Front doors are often made of oak and beech. Pine is suitable for interior models. The resin content of conifers protects the wood from rotting and fungal diseases.

When arranging suburban area you can save on material and not spend money on buying wood to make a door. The boards of a barn or other building to be demolished are quite suitable for work. The main thing is to check them for the absence of marriage and mold.

How to make a door from boards: step by step instructions

Let's consider in detail how to make a door out of boards yourself. The basis of any massive door is a plank shield, which must be correctly assembled and securely fastened. A massive board fence is installed between rooms, at the entrance to a bathhouse, a house or a utility block. Of course, in different cases, the appearance of the product will be different.

Necessary tools and materials

Work begins after the preparation of a set of tools and workpieces necessary materials. It is desirable to have a stable table-workbench available, on which the elements will be assembled into a single canvas.

Of the tools you will need:

 • manual milling cutter for creating grooves, holes, grinding the surface, leveling corners, etc .;
 • hacksaw;
 • planer for grinding and leveling the door at the ends;
 • chisels of different sizes;
 • regular and rubber hammer;
 • building level, pencil, tape measure, meter;
 • Sander or sandpaper;
 • screwdriver

From materials and "consumables" you will need:

 • tongue and groove boards with tongue and groove fastening - the choice of thickness and width depends on the purpose of the door structure, as well as its design;
 • self-tapping screws of various lengths;
 • wood glue.

It is desirable to dry the purchased wood additionally. Even if the material looks ready to work, it is better to play it safe. Each board should be laid on a spacer - they should not be in contact with each other. This is necessary so that moisture can freely escape from the wood fibers. If the boards are not dry enough, mold can form and spoil the finished product.

Drying time at +25°C takes about one to two months. The room where the wood is located should be well ventilated.

Important! Using a special chamber for drying, it is impossible to exceed the temperature of +50°С. Otherwise, the resin from coniferous wood will leak out and the material will partially lose its strength.

Door leaf manufacturing

We will analyze step by step how to make a door from a grooved board:

Decorating a massive door

The next step is the processing and decoration of the door leaf. Work is performed in the following order:

 1. Treat the surface with sandpaper or a grinder.
 2. Soak the wood with an antiseptic. Apply the first coat and leave until complete drying. Repeat processing. Antiseptic impregnation will protect the door from damage by harmful microorganisms and decay.
 3. Cover the canvas with putty - this layer will hide small irregularities. Putty can be replaced with a primer. In this case, it is necessary to process the door twice, allowing each layer to dry completely. Drying of the primer, as a rule, occurs within one day.
 4. Finishing the door is done with varnish, stain or paint desired color. The stain is applied to the primed surface. The number of layers depends on how rich and intense the shade should be. Each layer should dry for about 4 hours. To fix the result, apply two layers of varnish over the stain.

Important! The front door must be treated not only with an antiseptic, but also water repellent. When creating an entrance structure for an apartment, it is desirable to cover the canvas with flame retardants.

It is better to entrust the implementation of more complex decoration options (carving, milling, stencil, mosaic) to experienced craftsmen.

Door installation

The sequence of installation of the door leaf:

 1. Align the vertical and horizontal walls of the doorway.
 2. Assemble the door frame according to the dimensions of the opening and check the evenness of its installation. Finished construction must be rigid and durable.
 3. Try on the canvas to the opening. If necessary, adjust the dimensions of the product.
 4. Fix the door structure in the opening, fixing the individual sides of the frame in the opening with long self-tapping screws. Drown the heads of the fasteners into the material and close with plugs that match in color.
 5. Fill the gaps between the door frame and the walls. Collect cash items.
 6. Prepare the canvas for installation. Mount the handle, hinges and embed the lock. On the finished shield, apply markings for placing hinged loops. Install the hinges - optimally if they are flush with the end side of the door leaf.
 7. On the door frame, mark the installation locations for hinged hinges and the place for the locking tongue. According to the marks, make the corresponding grooves.
 8. Hang the canvas on the hinges and adjust the design. To enter the locking tongue on the box, it is necessary to fix the counter plate.

How to make a door from boards with your own hands: video

Rural residents and owners of country houses have to be able to do things that many city dwellers do not even know about: grow potatoes, pinch a chicken, heat a stove, milk a cow. On the other hand, they don’t need it - the main thing in the city is to make good money, and you can buy everything you need in a store or order a service in numerous offices. Nevertheless, a lot of people dream of buying a house outside the city and getting out of the metropolis at least for the weekend. And then they have to learn professions that are almost unclaimed in the urban environment, for example, to make a door for a barn. By the way, you will learn how to make a wooden door yourself from this article.

So, there are a lot of options for making a new door: when the old one rotted or rusted, when some kind of door was built, into, into the room, onto. In our case, a small shed for household equipment was erected, into which it also needed to make a door.

The cost of manufacturing a new one is several times less than the purchased one, besides, doors of a certain size are sold in stores, under which openings must be adjusted, which is not very convenient. It’s easier to make the one you need and make it for it door leaf himself.

They begin to build a door by measuring the perimeter of the opening. With us, these dimensions are 190 by 80 cm. It is convenient both in height and in width. Now you need to pick up boards of arbitrary width, and the length is not less than the doorway. The number of tesins does not matter, the main thing is that when folded together they are wider than 80 cm. The thickness of the tesins is 2.5 cm. Cut them off with a circular saw, making a length of 190 cm.

We decided to upholster the front part of the door leaf with clapboard. Therefore, we plan off the side of the boards that will look inside the barn with a planer.

We connect the gaps together and measure the width of the canvas. Further, so that the gaps do not diverge, we tighten them with a wooden plank, screwing it to the first and last board. We make marks with a pencil, and cut the canvas with a circular saw to a width of 79.5 cm, 5 mm less than the opening. It is necessary to make a gap so that the canvas does not touch the jamb. We will also make the length 189.5 cm.

Unscrew the bar and determine from which side the door will open - on the right or on the left. This is done in order to understand in which board the lock should be installed. In our case, this will be a mortise device with handles and a latch. When making doors from boards, I always cut out a place for a lock in the last board, and not later, in the assembled door. It's much easier, faster and more convenient.

First, mark the gap by tracing the body of the lock with a pencil. Then, with a pen drill of a suitable size, we drill a recess in it.

In boards with a thickness of 25 mm, it is difficult to make a recess for the lock without damaging the walls. But in the future, during the finishing of the canvas with clapboard, all holes will be closed. It is better to work out a place for a lock with a narrow, well-sharpened chisel. Immediately you need to drill through holes for attaching the handles of the lock and cut out a place for the key. We insert the lock into the recess and check its operation with the key.

Next, you can assemble the door leaf. We connect the boards together, align them.

We will cut off a piece of lining along the width of the canvas and with short carnations with narrow caps we will nail it to the cleats. We cut off the lining of one size, insert it into the previous one and nail it.

Plank by plank, we sheathe the entire door. After the lining is nailed, we take a grinder and grind the edges of the door around the perimeter, removing bumps and roughness. Turn the door upside down and carefully sand its inside. Do not forget to drill keyholes and lock handles in the place where they were closed with clapboard.

The gaps between the boards inside can be decorated with a 25 mm wide layout. It can be nailed around the perimeter, thus closing the holes during the selection under the lock.

We paint the door on both sides with varnish, with the addition of natural wax. This the best composition paints for doors installed outdoors and exposed to natural precipitation. Wax prevents moisture absorption and the door does not swell during wet weather.

After the varnish has dried, you can install the hinges. In our case, arrow loops are used, in vintage style. We place them on the door leaf, make marks, drill through holes and fix them with furniture bolts with semicircular caps. On the inside, we install enlarged washers so that the nuts do not jam the wood and tighten the hinges with nuts with a wrench.

Next, let's move on to the opening in the barn. We fasten a wooden plank 5 mm high to the threshold. This is done so that during installation with a hinge, the door rests on this bar. When, having screwed the hinges, we remove it, the door leaf will sag a little, but still, when opening and closing, it will not touch the threshold.

IN this moment it is necessary to install the canvas in the opening and wedge it, for example, with an ax so that it does not move.

Then we straighten the second part of the loops, make markings and drill 3 holes for each loop. We remove the ax, take the bolts and tighten them with nuts. Shed door installed.

Next, fix it, install the handles. On the door jamb, we first mark it, then select the notch for the latch and then fasten the striker plate. We check the operation of the lock with a key.

Now, if you close the door, it will move inside the shed, because nothing holds it. To eliminate this problem, we will beat wooden planks 1.5 cm high along the perimeter of the opening. They act as a stop and protect the shed from snow penetrating into the gap between the door and the jamb. There should be a small gap. Doors installed on the street, depending on the weather, may slightly increase or decrease in size. Lacquer with the addition of wax significantly reduces this probability, but still, you need to play it safe and leave a gap of 5 mm.

That's all, the manufacture and installation of the door with your own hands is finished. Such canvases made from pine boards will serve for many years. From time to time they need to be touched up and lubricated hinges, no more maintenance is required.

Any home requires protection from the outside world with its views, cold, noise. This task is performed by a metal or wooden front door. The modern market offers various models, but many men can do it themselves without spending a lot of money.

Any room should be equipped with a high-quality entrance door. The photo shows a version of the wooden model.

Do-it-yourself entrance wooden door is the topic of our article. Is it possible to make a quality door structure at home? What is required for this? Is it good for home protection?

Do-it-yourself entrance wooden door: different technologies

It is installed on any building, even utility rooms. It can be a gate, wooden in a bathhouse, a barn and, of course, in a house. Facades from the array are panel or solid (paneled). Each structure is made of solid or prefabricated wood.

Panel doors are the easiest to make with your own hands. Having in stock:

 • carpenter's tools;
 • several boards of the same size;
 • bars;
 • nails;
 • loops;
 • self-tapping screws.

You can assemble the product in a couple of hours. Consider design features shield input model.

Shield front door: different ways of making your own hands

The design is pretty simple. At the heart is a shield assembled from boards of equal width, length, thickness. The blanks must be processed so as not to splinter hands during manufacture and use. If there are boards of different lengths, they must be sawn to the desired size. For the shield, you can use a solid sheet of plywood or chipboard, if the block is further ennobled.

Panel door can be assembled different ways. Dowels and strut - one of the options for attaching the canvas.

For assembly, you will need a beam, which will be sawn into parts for strapping: dowels, strut.

 • Dowels are horizontal elements to which the shield is attached. There should be two dowels for the top and bottom of the shield.
 • The strut is a connecting element that is installed against the dowels diagonally. If the entrance wooden door is made of boards, the brace will ensure that the proportions of the structure are preserved. The canvas will not lead and will not warp.
 • If you use only dowels to stiffen the door, they will have to be installed around the perimeter of the shield, which will increase the load on the hinges and the frame.

Choose the right loops. Their range is quite large. Consider the opening method (right or left) and the weight of the canvas. The hinges must be secure.

Prepare the lock and handle for installation on the canvas after assembling the structure. The choice depends on its functionality. She will protect the house, bathhouse, barn, garage.

We prepare the material according to previously made measurements of the entrance opening.

Pick up boards of the same size, lay them out on the floor and connect them into a single sheet with dowels and a strut.

We lay out the parts on the floor and proceed to assembly.

 • The traditional way to assemble a panel door is to connect the elements with nails and a hammer.
 • Modern technologies make it possible to speed up the process and ensure better adhesion of the boards to the bars. Take a drill, screwdriver and wood screws of the right size. Assemble the shield into a single door, checking all the stages with a level and a tape measure.
 • In the old days, experienced carpenters assembled the product without nails, making a special gash in the boards for installing dowels in the recess. This technology requires experience in handling locksmith items and a good eye.

Do-it-yourself entrance construction from solid sheets

Panel types of facades also include sets assembled from solid sheets. Let's take plywood as an example.

 1. We cut sheets and timber according to the dimensions of the opening.
 2. We do the strapping of dowels around the perimeter.
 3. By surprise, we fix the strut diagonally of the box.
 4. We fix the outer sheet of plywood to the frame.
 5. We lay the insulation, the insulating layer inside the future door.
 6. We sew the frame with a second sheet of plywood. The whole panel structure is ready.

The facing material can be any building sheet that can give an aesthetic appearance.

The panel door can be assembled without nails, if you know how to handle milling tools and have a good eye.

A wooden panel door requires treatment with agents against rot and moisture. After all, the tree, in its properties, is influenced environment from which must be protected in order to prolong the service life. You can use colorless varnish or special paint for wood.

After the assembly is finished. You can safely make installation in the opening. (see Installing a wooden door).

Such a door structure is not reliable due to the weakness of the facade. For a thorough protection of the house from strangers, a more modern and durable wooden entrance door is required. It can also be made with your own hands, but with more effort and using a stronger array. Consider a panel door.

DIY paneled door

A paneled door is a more serious design for an entrance opening. It can be installed both in a private house and in an apartment.

Paneled doors are more reliable for the entrance opening. They may have a different appearance.

It consists of a bar around the entire perimeter, called the strapping. It has a special groove on one inner side, a profile for insertion. The inner part of the canvas is a panel made of solid wood, plywood, thin chipboard. The insert may be;

 • whole / composite;
 • smooth/convex;
 • deaf / with glass.

It is placed in the groove of the box or with the help of a special decorative lining, which is attached with glue (mainly used in construction with glass).

When making a paneled door, use quality wood.

When producing a paneled facade with your own hands, take a tree of a denser texture so that the door does not lead over time, it does not swell or crack due to temperature changes. Pine is often used as a more affordable material, but it is advisable to take oak, cedar, larch.

Having decided on what it will be, we buy everything you need:

 • timber for horizontal and uprights strapping;
 • insert in accordance with the desired facade pattern;
 • accessories;
 • fasteners;
 • finishing materials and means.

Let's start assembling with our own hands.

Wooden paneled door assembled. The matter remains with the processing of wood with special compounds, varnish or paint.

Works with glass insert and typesetting panels

Choosing an entrance wooden door with glass or intricate pattern panels, the assembly process can be a little more complicated.

The glass needs an additional frame, which will ensure the stability of the glass in the frame. You can fix it in the old-fashioned way, using glazing beads, small nails or glue. But it is better to use the inner crate, which has a different pattern of openings.

The glass insert requires an additional crate so as not to fall out of the profile with a strong impact.

The crate is made of thin bars, fixed to the main harness. Next comes the glass. The edge can be additionally treated with silicone to make it more reliable. From above, the glass is closed with a symmetrical overlay, which is attached to liquid nails or silicone.

A special approach is also necessary for paneled doors, the insert of which is assembled from separate planks into a special lock. Drawing can be varied. It is better to buy such blanks in ready-made than to customize each groove and profile by yourself. Usually, when assembling, it is necessary to add a central vertical beam into which the inlaid elements of the insert will be inserted.

For the rest, the production of a panel-type wooden entrance door with your own hands is carried out according to the algorithm described above.

Any wooden door can be assembled with your own hands, if you have a great desire and ability to use tools.

It is especially worth noting that we manufacture the front door, which should reliably protect against cold and noise. When designing a door block, consider the thickness of the beam so that two panels (external and internal), an insulating layer, and a heater can enter the groove. So you provide the house with a quality door.

If the wooden entrance door is too thin, the canvas must be insulated, to hide the cracks from the penetration of drafts. If there is a desire to preserve the appearance of the door from the outside, we produce insulation from the inside in any convenient way:

 • sheathe with leather;
 • lay a layer of thermal insulation inside the strapping and cover it with a sheet of plywood or thin chipboard on top (use the tips from our article “How to insulate the front door”).

Having considered several production methods, a do-it-yourself wooden entrance door becomes available to any man who wants to create comfort in the house on his own. Additionally, we recommend watching a video instruction on how to make a wooden entrance door at home.

Doors are one of important elements interior, although they are not given as much attention as furniture. But with the help of the door, you can complement and diversify the atmosphere of the room, create comfort, an atmosphere of security and a zone of personal space, prevent penetration unpleasant odors, cold and moisture and much more. More and more owners of houses and apartments prefer to make door structures with their own hands. They can be understood, because a hand-made product has a number of significant advantages over factory counterparts.

Advantages and disadvantages

There can be many reasons why the owner of a living space wants to make interior doors with his own hands.

 • Taking up the work on their own, a person can be absolutely sure of the quality of the materials used for the product.
 • He becomes the owner of a unique interior or entrance door that fits perfectly into the decor of the room and the doorway itself.
 • It saves a lot of money, because most models in furniture stores and specialized stores go on sale with a sky-high markup from intermediaries.

But at the same time, despite all these positive aspects of handicrafts, it is important to understand that it is necessary to make a lot of efforts so that the end result is a reliable, original and eye-pleasing interior door that can serve its creator for many years. And for this, you must first find out all the secret sides of making interior doors with your own hands.

Varieties

Various door designs can be divided into several groups, based on certain characteristics of the product.

According to the design of the door, there are:

 • Paneled, this type of door consists of several components (base or frame, panels);
 • Shield, they include one element.

According to the material used for manufacturing:

 • wooden;
 • wood fiber;
 • plastic;
 • laminated;
 • metal;
 • glass.

Opening method:

 • swing;
 • sliding;
 • folding;
 • radial.

Lock type:

 • rotary;
 • level;
 • barn;
 • smartlocks.

Choosing a material

In order to choose the right material, you must first determine the type of product, as well as its purpose.

Basically for the manufacture of door structures use:

 • various tree species (pine, oak, alder, larch, beech, birch, ash and others);
 • wood fiber panels (chipboard, chipboard, MDF);
 • plastic;
 • glass;
 • metal;
 • accessories from various materials: from wood to forged elements.

quality material, selected for the manufacture of doors, is a guarantee that the product will be of high quality and will last long enough and true.

More than 50% of the reliability of the door depends on the material chosen, everything else depends on the manufacturer's ability to process this material and what tools he will use for this.

Step-by-step instruction

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the door, it is necessary to use up a lot of paper and, firstly, create a drawing with all dimensions, and, secondly, make a list of the necessary materials and tools.

Only after a clearly planned sequence of actions can one begin the work itself, otherwise there is a risk of missing something important or miscalculating.

Of the tools you will definitely need:

 • various cutters for a manual router and the machine itself;
 • saw;
 • Bulgarian;
 • drill and screwdriver;
 • measuring instruments;
 • screwdrivers and chisels;
 • hammer and more.

The work and production plan directly depends on what type of interior door was chosen.

It will consist of several steps:

 • measurement of the doorway;
 • cutting out the necessary elements of the door structure;
 • assembly door frame and door leaf;
 • determination of the location of fittings and fasteners;
 • processing and decoration;
 • mounting;
 • installation of dobor and cashing.

How to mount an accordion door?

Folding doors are becoming more and more popular, and homeowners give them more and more preference. Many doubt that it is possible to do it yourself hinged doors on rollerskates. Seemingly unusual and complex structure in fact, it is very simple in its device and manufacture. Accordions consist of several narrow door panels fastened together with hinges, and this structure moves along guide rails on rollers or carriages made of rubberized plastic.

The advantage of these products lies in the rational use of space, and the disadvantage is in poor sound insulation and the absence of a worthy barrier to extraneous odors.

Let's move on to the most important thing - the hand-made manufacture of a hanging folding door. It is necessary to start the process with the choice of the main material for the structure. Harmonicas are unpretentious in assembly, so almost any material is suitable for their manufacture, the main thing is that it is not heavy and not massive.

Big weight canvases can create additional difficulties in the manufacture, for example, it will be necessary to install additional guide rails both above and below.

Most suitable materials for the manufacture of accordions are wood, chipboard or MDF panels, as well as plastic. As for the fasteners and fittings for folding doors, everything is quite simple here too - the necessary elements can be easily purchased in specialized stores. You will need guide rails, carriages or rollers, hinges or hinges, landing plates, as well as self-tapping screws and bolts, the same applies door handles and castles.

It is only worth considering that ordinary fittings are not suitable for folding products, locks must be designed for accordion doors, and handles should be lightweight and as close as possible to the surface of the canvas so as not to impede the movement of the structure.

Of the tools you will need:

 • jigsaw;
 • drill with various nozzles;
 • building glue;
 • measuring instruments - tape measure, level and metal ruler;
 • pencil.

The most important thing in the manufacture of an accordion is the correct calculations and measurements in the project. Accordion doors, folding according to the type of the same name musical instrument, can consist of any number of canvases, and also include one, two or more leaves, depending on the doorway. And the canvases can move both from one edge to another, and from the door frame to the central point of the opening.

After making the calculations, you can start cutting out the canvases for the door leaves. For aesthetics and safety, the sawn parts of the future door structure are treated with sandpaper, then wiped with a dry cloth and covered along the edges with protective edges made of PVC panels using building glue. But this must be done if the product is made of wood or chipboard and MDF boards, glass and plastic sheets do not require this processing.

The next step is marking the location of fasteners and fittings, as well as drilling these holes. Each sash should have its own carriage or roller and at least three hinges or hinges; for more massive structures, this number should be increased.

It is necessary to assemble the door leaf only in a horizontal position, otherwise it may be deformed or displaced.

Folding doors are easy to make - you just need to mount the guide rail into the ceiling or into the floor and ceiling to create additional safety during operation of the product and its strength. The end sheets of the accordion are not equipped with hinges, since on one side there will be a mounting system for the door jamb, and on the second - a handle or lock. TO door frame the accordion is attached with the help of axial pins, which must be at least two pieces: top and bottom. Sliding doors are inserted into them into special grooves that are located on the floor and ceiling.

Do-it-yourself accordion doors - perfect solution to save not only space, but also own funds. Due to the simplicity of this design, a wide scope of thought and imagination opens up for creating unusual models that can decorate any interior.

An accordion door can serve not only as an interior door, but also as a partition, a screen door, and if the walls are made of drywall, then it becomes possible to make a structure retractable into the wall during additional installation work.

Single piece plywood

Another easy way to make a door yourself is to choose a material such as plywood for its manufacture. This product can be of two types: structures consisting of one layer, and frame products from two layers of plywood. Both types have their own advantages and manufacturing features. Let's consider them in more detail separately:

Single layer structures

As the name implies, this type of construction consists of a sheet of plywood, which is necessarily reinforced on both sides with wood slats. It turns out a fairly light and easy-to-manufacture product that does not require special material and physical costs for its creation.

Frame doors

Making a frame door is a little more difficult than an ordinary single-layer one, but, nevertheless, anyone can do it, even without experience, the main thing is to be patient and follow the instructions clearly.

Having decided on the choice of plywood door design, the owner can begin to create a project and measure the parameters of the doorway in order to draw up a drawing of the future door and calculate required amount materials. After all the manipulations with the measuring tape, tape measure and level are done, you can safely arm yourself with a shopping list and go to the hardware store.

For a plywood door you will need:

 • sheet (s) of plywood of the first or second grade;
 • wooden slats with a width of 10 to 15 cm;
 • insulation, for example, glass wool (required only for a frame door);
 • accessories kit.

Making tools:

 • drill;
 • jigsaw;
 • screwdriver;
 • glue;
 • sandpaper;
 • screwdriver;
 • measuring instruments and pencil.

A single-layer door is made according to a simple scheme:

 • a sheet of plywood is cut according to the parameters of the doorway;
 • wooden slats are fastened with glue or with screws on both sides of the sheet;
 • holes for fittings are cut;
 • the finished product is processed with sandpaper and covered with putty, then either painted or varnished;
 • fittings are installed.

The process of creating frame doors is more complicated, but the result exceeds expectations in terms of quality and reliability of the structure.

The manufacturing scheme is as follows:

 • the frame of the door is made of wooden slats or bars, they are fastened together either with glue or screws;
 • then, by analogy with a single-layer door, two sheets of plywood are cut out, one of which is attached to the frame immediately using self-tapping screws;
 • after the insulation is laid;
 • the second sheet of plywood is attached to the frame;
 • the next step is marking and drilling holes for fittings, at this stage the locking mechanism of the lock is installed if the door is the entrance, and not the interior door;
 • the product is polished, treated with putty, painted or varnished;
 • fittings are installed.

We make from lining

It is more difficult to make a door from lining on your own than from plywood, since working with drawings is much more complicated, and there are much more elements. Clapboard products are very popular in country houses and baths. Due to its properties, wood retains moisture well and retains heat, but only with proper processing.

To make a door structure from a lining, you will need the following tools:

 • electric drill;
 • saw or jigsaw;
 • measuring instruments - level, tape measure;
 • primer;
 • hammer.

Materials:

 • wooden boards;
 • fittings and fasteners.

Agree, the list is quite short and consists mainly of improvised means, and all its components can be easily found at home. The creation of the door begins, as always, with the door frame and measurements of all quantities. Since wood is a fairly heavy material, the box must meet these parameters and be very durable. If the door frame is weak, then it is recommended to strengthen it with a wooden beam up to 10 cm thick. After creating the door frame, you can start making the door itself.

The existing boards are cut into two elements, which will have to become the end part of the door, their length should be the required height of the door structure, say, 180 cm. Corresponding holes are cut on the boards for attaching other structural elements by analogy with the designer. Then you can start manufacturing horizontal structural elements, there may be several, but definitely at least two. These parts are inserted into the grooves of the vertical elements and fixed with nails.

After the base of the structure has been created, you can begin to fill it in; for this, at least 40 boards are cut, provided that they are horizontal. These elements also need to be inserted into the grooves of the main structure and secured with nails. After that, holes for fittings are cut, if necessary, the door is covered with specialized compounds, for example, primed, varnished, decorated, and only after that all fittings and fixing elements are attached, and hinges are also inserted.

In addition to the classic door construction from lining, sliding doors can also be made, which will require a minimum of effort, skills and material costs. First you need to create a foundation sliding design, for this, boards with a section of 10x2 cm are used, respectively, the size of the structure depends purely on the parameters of the doorway. After the frame is made, the remaining elements are prepared. For the door leaf, the lining is cut to the appropriate parameters and glued together, boards are also attached to the bottom and top, and it is recommended to attach a horizontal crossbar to the front side of the door, or place it diagonally, this will give the structure additional strength, and also serve as decorative element. The entire structure is fixed with self-tapping screws, including fasteners, and put on the main frame, equipped with guides and rollers, which allow the door leaf to move.

Important: before starting work with wood, it is necessary to dry it, otherwise the installation of these elements will lead to deformation of the main structure, as well as chips and cracks when trying to drill or cut it.

Before painting, the wood sheet must be covered with primer, painting can also be done only after drying.

Paneled Mechanical Models

Making a paneled door yourself is not as easy as it seems, but it is quite possible if you are guided by the tips of professionals and follow a clearly described plan.

Also stock up necessary tools and materials:

 • jigsaw or hacksaw for cutting wood;
 • chisel;
 • measuring instruments and pencil;
 • screwdriver;
 • sandpaper of several types with various surfaces;
 • fittings and fasteners;

 • wood - bars with a width of 5 cm;
 • sheets of plywood, chipboard, chipboard or MDF;
 • glass;
 • glue and wood processing products.

For the manufacture of doors, it is better to choose wood with a high level of strength and moisture resistance, most often it is oak, pine or ash. Additional elements doors - panels can be made from MDF or chipboard panels, but glass or stained-glass windows are also suitable.

Work on a door structure begins with making measurements and creating a sketch; for beginners in the manufacture of this type of product, it is better to start with a simplified door with five to six panels. Taking into account all the parameters and values, and after creating the door frame, the basis for the door is made - 2 vertical and 2 horizontal elements, as well as several panel separators, which will also increase the strength of the product.

All elements are fastened with the help of grooves, which can be additionally treated with glue for a higher level of fixation and strength of all elements.

Then you can start making panels, this is one of the simplest tasks, you just need to cut out a part of the desired size from the material chosen for the panel. Then they are attached to the main structure.

After the door is processed with special compounds, all joints are hidden with spars, then the product is decorated, after which it becomes ready for installation.

How to make a door frame yourself?

The door frame is the basis of the door structure, it is a guarantee of its quality and durability, long service life, as well as an attractive appearance. It is with the preparation of the doorway that all work on the manufacture of the door begins - this is the carrier sheet of the entire product, as well as a place to install the lock plate. Making a door frame is quite simple, but only with a responsible attitude to this stage of manufacturing, you can eventually get a good result and a door that will fulfill its direct duties. The manufacturing scheme does not contain anything complicated.

Most often, the same materials are used to make the box as to create the door leaf itself: wood, MDF or metal. The highest performance belongs, of course, to wood.

For the box, you can use any type of wood, but it is important to consider its properties.

Let's look at an example. Most often for door frames pine is used. This is a material with an affordable cost that corresponds to the quality, but pine is categorically unacceptable for entrance doors, as it has properties such as softness and elasticity: such a product will not be able to have a high level of strength, and therefore, perform its direct functions. For entrance doors better fit oak, pine is the perfect solution for interior designs.

Important: with regard to MDF and metal, here it is worth considering several facts. MDF - attractive in appearance, inexpensive material, but its level of strength is very low.

Metal is a durable and high-quality alloy, which at the same time does not look very aesthetically pleasing.

Thus, MDF boards are the destiny of interior doors, and metal is the entrance. But if it is easy to work with wood fiber, then metal structures require remarkable welder skills.

The manufacture of a door frame traditionally begins with careful measuring manipulations, which should be done after the dismantling of the old structure. It is necessary to measure the sides of the doorway, as well as the threshold and the upper part of the opening, then calculate the required amount of material. The width of the door frame is directly proportional to the width of the walls.

The next step is cutting the material and joining the structure. Here it is extremely important to determine the type of connection. Experts prefer the groove technique, it is considered the most reliable, but it is quite difficult to cut all the grooves on your own.

For beginners in this business, there is another way to connect the door frame - diagonal.

The upper edges of the vertical and horizontal elements are cut at an angle of 45 degrees, thereby forming diagonal joints of the structure.

It is very important not to make a mistake with the angle by a single degree, otherwise the design will turn out to be unsafe in operation and deformed.

If all measurements are made correctly, then you can proceed to the assembly of the structure and its processing, and then to installation. This process is quite simple, but at the final stages some nuances may arise.

When installing the door frame, you must:

 • make sure that the box matches the parameters of the door;
 • mark all areas where loops or other fasteners will be located;

 • mount the box in the doorway, adjusting all the values with the help of a plumb line and level;
 • fix the position of the door with pegs or slats;
 • fix the structure with bolts;
 • fill the gaps with mounting foam.

In most cases, at this stage, the installation of the door frame ends, but this is a practical part, we should not forget about aesthetics. It is also necessary to hide the junction of the doorway and the frame, as well as take care of closing empty spaces, which may well arise if the owner wanted to change the geometry of the doorway and reduce it.

How to do dobory and cash out?

So, if there is such a nuance as a discrepancy between the parameters of the doorway and the box in width or height, then it is necessary to correct it. This can be done quite simply by installing the so-called extensions, which are easily made independently from any materials with minimal cost time and effort.

In fact, doborki are ordinary home-made planks covering the open section of the wall, but also they are of several types:

 • a bar that does not have a lined edge, which is hidden later with the help of cashing;
 • plank with lining;
 • a combined dobor, which has protrusions and recesses for docking with other elements of the doorway, is not so easy to make.

As already mentioned, any material can be suitable for extensions, only its texture and texture are important. color combination with the frame and the main door structure, otherwise the appearance of the door may be damaged.

The easiest way is to make dobors from wood with your own hands.

Consider the scheme of their creation:

 • measurement of areas that need to be hidden;
 • selection of materials suitable for the parameters;
 • adjusting the slats to the required values;
 • wood sanding;
 • painting with stain in the color of the door frame, varnishing to protect against moisture in two layers;
 • fitting installation.

It is necessary to start the installation of the planks from the upper horizontal element, then the remaining elements of the trim are adjusted and fastened. Liquid nails or self-tapping screws, or special grooves of combined extensions, can act as fasteners.

But to give a full and complete look to the door structure, it may be necessary to install decorative cashing, it hides all the joints and flaws in the doorway and the door itself, and also increases the level of insulation.

You can independently make cash elements and canopies from wood, following the same rules as in the manufacture of extensions - a combination of colors and textures.

To cash out with your own hands, you need:

 • take measurements;
 • cut elements according to the parameters of the door structure;
 • grind materials;
 • process wood protective composition;
 • to assemble and install.

Cashing is fastened in the same way as dobors, using self-tapping screws or liquid nails.

How to weld the door yourself?

The process of manufacturing steel doors is much more time-consuming and complex than the process of manufacturing wood products.

Firstly, this will require other tools, which are not always so easy to find, and, secondly, it is much easier to work with wood than with metal.

Also, steel doors can rarely be found as interior doors, except in industrial premises, most often metal doors are installed as entrance doors, and therefore they must be particularly durable and reliable in design, and the owner will also need to take care of a reliable lock.

From tools for making steel door will need:

 • welding machine;
 • welding table;
 • grinder, always angular and with a nozzle for working with metal;
 • screwdrivers;
 • screwdriver and electric drill with various nozzles;
 • wrenches.

From the materials you will need:

 • corners from a metal profile for a door frame or a pipe with a square section;
 • metal sheet for the door facade with a thickness of 2 mm;
 • loops;
 • fittings, including fasteners;
 • if necessary - finishing material in the form of MDF panels, veneer and more.

After everything you need is ready, you need to measure the doorway, it is important to count the dimensions precisely on a solid basis, for example, brick wall, but not from finishing with plaster, which can crumble at any time during installation.

Also, when measuring the width and height, a difference in values may be observed, in which case it is necessary to choose the smallest indicators.

After all measurements are made, you need to subtract 2 cm on each side in order to be able to adjust the position of the box and the door structure itself during installation.

We now turn to the most crucial stage - the manufacture of the box and the door structure. First of all, work begins on the box for the doorway, for this, on welding table lay out the profile and cut it according to previously made measurements. Then the received parts of the box are once again applied to each other on the welding table and the measurements are checked, as well as the degree of the angles formed, all of them must be straight.

Only after repeated verification of all measurements, you can start welding the door frame.

At this stage, you can cut holes for the bolt mechanism with a grinder.

The next step is the door leaf. It is quite simple to make its measurements - you need to subtract 0.5 cm from each size of the door frame, this gap will allow the door to open and close freely. After that, you can start welding the frame from metal corners, not forgetting about additional stiffeners, having made lattice welding of metal pipes.

One of the final stages is the installation of the door leaf. Everything here is quite simple and identical to the previous steps. Measurements are made with a permissible increase in dimensions by 1 cm on all sides, except for the one where the door hinges are located, there the permissible value is 0.5 cm. Then the sheet must be reliably and evenly welded to the door frame and sanded with a grinder.

The finishing touches are work on the slots for the lock, peephole and handles, as well as the installation of fittings and cladding. And, of course, welding door hinges.

How to insulate?

If the owner was able to with my own hands make repairs in the apartment and assemble the door structure, then insulating it will be a matter of a couple of minutes. Basically, only the entrance doors or those products that open onto the balcony need to be insulated.

With the help of additional insulation, you can increase the ability of the structure to retain heat, protect against drafts and cold, as well as unwanted sounds and smells (relevant for kitchen doors).

Warming, although the process is simple, but contains several stages:

 • installation insulation materials along the perimeter of the door frame;
 • covering the gaps between the frame and the door leaf itself;
 • if necessary, sealing fittings, locks and other elements;
 • insulation of the door structure, including the leaf.

For insulation you will need:

 • material for insulation (foam rubber, synthetic winterizer and more);
 • material for sealing/sealing;
 • upholstery for the door leaf (eco-leather or polycarbonate, wood panels);
 • screwdriver;
 • mounting foam;
 • measuring instruments and scissors;
 • construction stapler.

Before starting work, it is necessary to determine the materials for insulation and sealing and their quantity, therefore, the door structure must first be examined in detail for the presence of gaps, and the door leaf for the upholstery must be measured. Only then can you proceed with the installation of the seal. It is attached either to adhesive tape or to staples, with the second option being much more reliable. The next step is upholstery of the door leaf, this can be done with front side doors, and from the back. The owner determines the color and type of fastening independently.

It is only important to carefully cut out all the holes for the fittings, the lock and the peephole.

If we are talking about the insulation of a metal door, then the progress of work will be slightly different. Such doors can be easily insulated from the inside with polystyrene foam and other synthetic materials. The canvas is attached in any way between the partitions of the main frame, then metal base welded back and get a warm front door with additional noise and heat insulation.

Decor and finishes

Exists a large number of ways of decorating and finishing doorways and designs that are able to give the product a unique and stylish appearance, ideally combined with the interior of the room.

Consider the main ways to create decor for interior and exterior doors:

 • painting;
 • varnish coating;
 • pasting with wallpaper, photo wallpaper or fabric;
 • application liquid wallpaper;
 • inlay with mirror surfaces (glass, mirror, acrylic and others);

 • age or make vintage decoupage;
 • drawing frescoes, patterns and various decorative elements.

You can also glue the door leaf with beads, make interior decoration floor laminate etc.
