Floating prefabricated floor technology

This type of floor includes coatings made from parquet or tongue and groove boards or laminate.

These coatings must be laid through cushioning material on a level base, since unevenness will lead to deformation of the material and their rapid failure. Minor flaws, such as scratches, are acceptable.

An insulating material is placed on the base, which is most often foamed polyethylene with a uniformly closed cellular structure. Foamed polyethylene can be used for all types of floor coverings, and is available in two types:

  • physically cross-linked (or gas-filled) polyethylene foam;
  • chemically cross-linked polyethylene.

The second option is polystyrene foam. The thickness of the insulating material is 2-5 mm.

Elements of the finished floor covering are laid out at a distance of 10 mm from the wall. This gap is necessary so that when the coating expands under the influence of temperature, it does not swell, resting against the wall.

Prefabricated floating floors are least effective in terms of sound and heat insulation.

Dry screed technology

The installation of a floating floor of this type eliminates the use of solutions. This method involves leveling the surface for subsequent laying of the prefabricated floor. The difference between this soundproofing technology and a concrete floating floor is that dry mixtures of fine-grained materials, such as expanded clay or perlite sand, are poured onto the base.

Dry backfill allows you to quickly level the base on which the remaining layers are laid. This method is much cheaper than concrete floating floor technology.

Stages of dry screeding:

  1. The base of the floor is prepared by removing all old coverings. The cracks and recesses are sealed with a solution prepared from a dry mixture. For this purpose, you can use Remstream-T.
  2. Using a laser or water level, mark the height of the bedding.
  3. An edge strip is fixed between the wall and the future bedding, for the manufacture of which foamed polyethylene or mineral wool is used.
  4. Since fine-grained bedding has low moisture resistance, it is necessary, in order to create moisture protection, to spread a plastic film over the entire area with an overlap of at least 250 mm at the edges. The edges are glued with reinforced tape.
  5. The bedding is laid to the marked level and compacted.
  6. Most often, gypsum fiber boards are laid on the bedding in two layers, fastened together with glue.

This is one of the most simple options dry screed technology.
