Do-it-yourself garden benches for a summer residence - drawings. How to make beautiful benches, photos and instructions. Garden bench - photo ideas

A garden bench is a beautiful element of landscape architecture. With its help, you can create a recreation area on local area. Such structures are built both in production and with your own hands at home. Different materials are used in production, even in some cases they can be constructed from chairs, logs, and other materials that are found in every summer cottage.

Design Features

Benches, unlike other small architectural forms, must correspond not only to style, but also to ergonomics. Therefore, when choosing them, the level of comfort and a unified concept of landscape design are taken into account.

Since their first appearance in Ancient Egypt many were invented different types benches - from decoration of personal plots to ordinary ergonomic designs. Their variety is just as wide, and in order to organize this assortment, we will divide the designs into three main types:

  • Street benches– a functional design, which is built from practical, reliable materials. They rarely differ in the beauty of their forms and variety of style.
  • Garden designs– openwork benches with forged elements. They perfectly complement the overall landscape design and create a functional space.
  • Designs for a summer residence- differ in variety of species. They are a bright accent when creating a suburban area.
All designs can be divided into:
  • stationary - a static element of landscape design;
  • mobile - you can move and install structures in any part of your garden plot, creating a comfortable recreation area.

Based on their location, they can be divided into:

  • front doors - beautiful designs, made from forged elements, wood, stone;
  • dining models are comfortable, placed on terraces, not far from the barbecue. They are built from different types of wood;
  • structures that are located near water: a stream, a pond, a fountain. They are built from moisture-resistant materials. Concrete and stone are used;
  • seasonal - mobile structures. Durable, reliable materials are used.

Material of manufacture

The material from which they are built determines not only their location, but also the characteristics of their operation. Depending on the material they are divided:

Wooden- differ in their special aesthetics. They fit well into almost any style of landscape design. Only rot-resistant wood species are used for production. Walnut, cherry, oak, and coniferous species are used. The wood goes through a number of treatments: the material is impregnated with a composition that increases resistance to moisture, and covered with varnish or special moisture-resistant paint.

Stone structures- These are strong, durable models. They will highlight the beauty of garden crops. Granite, quartz or marble are used in construction. Such models are resistant to moisture, frost, and sunlight. They are stationary, massive and mounted in places with high humidity.

Metal– resistant to various damages, they are reliable. For the garden in vintage style choose forged models, decorated with different decorative elements. Modernism is emphasized by cast iron structures. A beautiful, elegant wrought-iron chair will fit well into the country style.

Plastic– often used in the production of mobile structures and those installed near bodies of water. Such models may have different colour, decor.

Combined models– a successful combination of several materials, such as stone and wood, metal and wood.

Each model is installed depending on the style of the plot and the special preferences of the owner.

Garden benches: types and features

In every country house there is an adjacent area. It can be functional - even beds, bushes, greenhouses, and other garden attributes. Some people prefer an English lawn with flower beds. But there are people who prefer shady gardens.

Regardless of this, in the summer this area turns into a vacation spot. What makes it comfortable is a garden bench that will look harmonious in the landscape design.

How to choose a bench for the garden?

Designers divide the garden area into three main types according to style:

  • regular gardens - created according to geometric laws: smooth paths, strict forms, every bush and flower bed is in its place;
  • rustic or country style - bright flower beds, wooden fence, trees and beds;
  • landscape areas. When creating a style on the site, the natural beauty of the greenery is preserved. Each element, for example, a snag or a fallen branch, is not removed, but is played up with the help of various decorative elements, including benches.

For each garden, several options for garden benches are suitable.

They are selected depending on:
  • garden size;
  • design mobility;
  • the material from which it is made.

For example, for small garden V rustic style Structures made of wood will look beautiful. In some cases, you can use benches that combine metal and wood. They will emphasize the refined style and become its pleasant additions. Stone models cannot be installed. They will stand out against the backdrop of beautiful greenery and well-kept beds.

In landscaped areas, for example, near blocks of stones that will be beautifully laid out harmoniously, a stone bench will fit in. This can be a model with or without a backrest. Under a hanging willow branch, you can place a small wooden bench, in which there will be no metal parts.

IN formal gardens You can install stone furniture near a fountain or stone statue. It will complement a single style and add zest to it. . Wooden elements will look out of place.

Combined: metal and wood

These designs are universal. They are installed not only on a personal plot, if the style allows it, but also on summer terraces, in the barbecue area. Such models are distinguished by a high aesthetic component.

Choose the shape and appearance of the model depending on the purpose. For some cases, simple benches without a back are ideal; for others, it is better to choose a bench with a back and armrests.

Manufacturing methods and options

Such structures are built in factories. The difficulty is that you need to have tools to create from metal required forms. It is built as a support. The armrests and legs of the structure are made from it. Wood is used for the seat and backrest. It should be a dense type of wood, which is pre-treated with impregnations that protect against rotting:

  • pinelight wood with beautiful texture and color. She only becomes more attractive with age. Disadvantage - easily damaged mechanically;
  • acacia– dense hardwood. It is reliable and can be used as the main material when building a bench, however, with prolonged contact with a wet surface, the color of the wood may change. Therefore, it is better to use it only for arranging the seat and backrest;
  • cedar- expensive material that absorbs moisture. It is the best for street construction. Since after drying it does not crack or deform;
  • teak– the high price of timber does not allow many to use it in the construction of outdoor furniture. However, it has many properties: it does not absorb moisture, does not dry out and is damaged. Over time it gains even greater strength.

Depending on these parameters, the wood for the benches is selected. However, they also consist of metal. Its choice is just as important for creating a high-quality and reliable design. All metal parts street structures are treated with anti-corrosion agents. The properties of this material and the methods of its finishing affect the aesthetic component of outdoor furniture.

Therefore, the choice of this material is as important as wood:
  • aluminum– a common option for creating the frame of outdoor furniture. It is easy to process, can be cleaned, and is resistant to corrosion;
  • steel– pipes, angles, channels. It is quite flexible compared to other iron alloys, so furniture made from it is very popular. Stainless steel– durable and reliable material. It is resistant to corrosion and has low weight;
  • cast iron– high-quality, reliable material. It is used to create stationary structures that must have a lot of weight.

Each outdoor furniture can have a unique design, which depends not only on the choice of materials, but also on the way it is finished:

  • casting- the most common method of metal processing. When using it, you can create a variety of shapes and patterns. This method is used only in production;
  • powder finish– gives the metal strength and attractiveness. It is more reliable and beautiful than regular paint and protects surfaces from damage. It is impossible to make such a coating at home;
  • forging- a method through which you can create completely unique drawings and patterns. Forged furniture is considered the most beautiful and reliable.

However, to create outdoor furniture for the garden, you can also use old metal objects, for example, a bed. To build such a piece of furniture, you need to leave the bed frame and use wood to make a backrest and seat. Such models will add comfort and uniqueness to your style.

Transformable benches

Transformer benches are functional structures that are used not only to decorate a personal plot, but also to create a comfortable recreation area in it. These models are distinguished by their mobility, they are practical, easy to use - in just a few seconds, by transforming the bench, it turns into a comfortable table with two benches. It is comfortable to sit at it and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere.

What designs exist:

  • built from natural wood;
  • made of metal and wood - combined models;
  • assembled from metal.

On personal plots, structures made of wood or combined models are used. They are ordinary without decoration, but very practical. You can make such a table and benches with your own hands.

DIY making

Before you start building a transforming bench, you need to prepare the material and tools, and draw up a drawing. It can be done using design and calculation programs. You can find them on the Internet or do the calculation yourself.

Choosing material

For manufacturing you will need timber, boards, the choice of species depends on you. This article describes the pros and cons of wood used for benches. The board must be sanded; it is better to check its moisture content using a moisture meter.

Material calculation according to standard drawing

For assembly you need:

  • 4 beams with a section of 90*45*1445 mm;
  • 5 bars 90*32*1480 mm.

To work, you need to prepare the tools you need. And you will need:

  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • level;
  • corner;
  • sandpaper for sanding surfaces.

Can do this job better Sander, but if there is none, you can take paper (320). You will also need screws, bolts, and a saw. You also need to purchase paint and varnish materials.

Manufacturing stages

  • We make the legs of the structure. To do this, you need to take the bars and cut them 70 cm long. You need to make 8 identical legs. You need to make oblique cuts on them on both sides in order to obtain the balance of the structure during further installation.
  • A frame for the structure is made. To do this, you will need boards that need to be cut into four sections of 40 cm and the same number of sections of 170 cm. The corners must be made the same.
  • It is necessary to strengthen the frame, for this you will need to nail a wooden beam in increments of 50 cm. This way, the structure will be separated and the bench will be protected from deformation.
  • The legs are attached to the seats at a distance of 10 cm from the corners. It is important to make connections of high quality and reliable. This is done using bolts.
  • A rectangle of 70*170 cm is created from the timber, which will be connected inside additional material to ensure reliability.
  • All made elements of the transformer are collected. The work is complex and responsible.
  • You need to cut two bars 40 cm long. They are needed for fastening between the bench and the shield.
  • We cut two more beams, 110 cm long. They are used for the back. They are connected with self-tapping screws.
  • The frame is assembled, only then it is sheathed with outside tree.

To protect the material from moisture, you need to cover it with stain and then with a water-repellent varnish. It dries in 36 hours, so after work the bench cannot be used for several days. With proper care, such structures last about 20 years. Over time, the frame can be replaced with metal, which will increase its service life.

Custom benches

These structures are installed not only on personal plots, but also inside the house, in gazebos. Not only the design, but also the materials used in assembling the structure depend on the location.

Bench in the bathhouse: features

During the construction of baths, only reliable materials are washed. This is a tree that, under the influence of high temperature and humidity, will not undergo deformation and will not change its color. For such models take:

  • linden. It is easy to process, does not crack over time, dries quickly and heats up slowly. Minus - over time the board darkens;
  • aspen- has medicinal properties, but at long-term operation loses beauty;
  • abashi. This wood has a porous structure, it does not heat up quickly, and retains its original appearance for a long time.

Benches in the bathhouse are stationary structures. Their location is thought out at the sauna design stage. They must have a certain height and width so that a person can comfortably fit on them.

They are built in several types:
  • L-shaped - for medium-sized steam rooms;
  • straight – mounted in small steam rooms;
  • U-shaped for large rooms.
  • benches are built in the same style. If, for example, it is country, then the benches can be built in combination with metal or exclusively from wood. Designs made from old furniture or objects will look beautiful. As a support, you can use wheels from a wheelbarrow or ordinary hemp, beautifully carved. Models with carved elements, decorated with soft pillows in bright colors, look attractive. Artificially aged bars, which are used as seats, will add charm and comfort;
  • rustic style - only wood is used, and it can be aged or use bars that have been standing in the yard for a long time. They will become the best reason for shops. Metal and plastic are not welcome in this style. The furniture should be massive and of good quality. Can be applied decorative ornaments as capes;
  • Scandinavian style involves the use of many warm and soft objects. The benches built for the gazebo are large, they are stationary with wide seats, high backs. To make such furniture attractive, add soft pillows, which are sewn to order to fit the size of the furniture.

Furniture made of stone or iron is rarely installed in gazebos.

In the hallway: a home with a soul

Arranging a hallway is just as important as choosing furniture for other rooms in the house. After all, this room is the calling card of any home.

What to pay attention to:

For this room, models made from different materials are purchased:
  • plastic- models are combined with other materials: wood, chipboard or fiberboard. They are rarely used to build furniture for hallways, only if the interior allows it to fit into it. Plastic can have different colors and shapes. Plastic benches are easy to clean and transport;
  • tree– durable, reliable designs. Due to its dense structure, wood does not absorb moisture and does not dry out under the influence of solar radiation. Coniferous wood, aspen, alder, and oak are used to make furniture. Such models may have a carved pattern on the legs, armrests or headboard. The wood is painted with tinting varnish to preserve the texture of the material;
  • MDF and chipboard– used in the construction of furniture. Such designs are equipped drawers or it may occupy the entire space under the product. This material is used for the construction of furniture for the living room and bedroom. It may have different color, covered laminated film, which increases moisture resistance;
  • forged– not suitable for all hallways. So that it does not overload this room, such structures are built small. They perform only their main function - you can sit on it comfortably. Furniture can have a backrest or be built with beautiful patterned armrests;
  • wickerbeautiful models. They are inferior in strength to their counterparts, but their beauty minimizes this drawback. Such structures are built both with and without a box for small items;
  • combined– wood and metal are used. Such designs are practical and reliable. The frame of the structure is built from metal, and the parts on which people sit or support their back are made of wood.

When choosing benches for a room, you don’t have to be so strict about the material and its ability to withstand sudden temperature changes.

Children's

Children's furniture is built taking into account the standards set by our government. Therefore, the choice of material and paint is subject to high requirements, prescribed in SPIPs. For the construction of benches, natural materials or plastic are used, which do not contain harmful impurities.

Types of children's benches depending on their location:

for the street - wood and metal are used. The legs are made of steel, which is processed to improve its properties and resistance to moisture. Such designs do not have a back; rare models may have armrests. Top part It is built from wood, and all parts of the metal frame are covered with it to cover all sharp corners. Such models are decorated with multi-colored paint, which covers all components of the product;

benches made of wood are installed for kindergartens and playgrounds. Such designs are most suitable for children. They do not contain harmful substances, there are no sharp corners or joints that could injure a child. Benches may be installed in locker rooms, the height of which does not reach half a meter. They are mobile and easily move around the room;

plastic structures are installed for private playgrounds. They are distinguished by a variety of patterns and colors. They can be made in the shape of your favorite animals or cartoon characters. The benches are light and reliable. The back can be made in the shape of the sun, caterpillar, butterfly. An integral component is the variety of colors.

Often such structures can be combined with a table or canopy. If a bench is being made for a children's public playground, you need to take into account all the rules established by the government. To build a children's structure in a private house, you can use plastic models.

Corner bench for garden, home, kitchen

Benches are built from different materials: stone, metal, plastic, wood. Among the variety of shapes and types of benches, corner models look especially interesting. They are compact, but more spacious and beautiful. You can design many types of corner benches:

  • corner transforming bench - this model consists of straight sections of small size, which, if necessary, can be rearranged, while adjusting the structure to the conditions of another space;
  • In your garden plot you can find many places that can be used to create a comfortable place to relax. A simple corner bench placed against the wall is easy to install and does not require the use of calculation programs. To assemble it, you need to prepare a frame, a tree that will serve as a seat. It is installed near a free wall, which is covered with clapboard;
  • corner benches made of natural stone. Such structures are installed on personal plots. They are reliable, distinguished by the absence of a back and decor. Such models are manufactured in factories;
  • corner bench with table. The design has benches located between the table. It may be a little larger and taller, or have a different color. This will only give the composition a unique look.

Such models are built from wood, rarely when steel can be used as a frame. For beauty, they are decorated with various decorative elements. If these are wooden structures, then the decor can be carved elements made on the legs of the models and the headboard. If the design is combined, then beautiful forging is done; it can be done on the back or armrests.

Model No. 1

Bench for a summer residence

FROM OLD CHAIRS.

Here in the photo below we see the original and very a simple bench- which is easy to make with your own hands from unnecessary chairs. Everyone at their dacha has old, shabby chairs. Once you left one chair in the rain, the varnish coating on them swollen, soft upholstery It has long since crawled into shaggy holes. It’s a shame to throw it away; you put it against the wall of the garage or in a shed - and it continues to deteriorate. Then another chair was added to it - but it’s still okay, and you hold it on summer veranda. And sometimes you see shabby chairs with lopsided legs at the entrance (someone took them to the trash).

All these old robbers can be given a new brave life. Paint them a bold, rich color. And cover with a wide board - screw it on with self-tapping screws (so that they hold on to the leaky bottom of the chair; it can be reinforced with a wooden overlay). Or screw it not to the bottom but to the frame of the chair.

By the way, if you don’t have old chairs, IT’S NOT A TROUBLE. Go to any flea market website - many of them sell old chairs for mere pennies. They are happy that they sold it. You are lucky that you found it.

If wooden chairs will have different heights seats - this can easily be solved by filing the legs of high chairs (or stuffing additional thick boards onto the frame of the seat of a low chair to raise the seat to the desired height.)

Chairs can be connected not only in the seat area, but also along their backs. Here on step-by-step master class making such a bench (photo below) we see how it is done:

  • The attachment points along the rear line of the seat are a long wooden strip.
  • The fastening points along the front line of the seat are fastened with screws (or simply a butt, which is held in place by the fact that the back bar prevents the chairs from moving apart).

We adjust the side rails of the bench. We cut it out corner groove on the handrail so that it fits into the frame of the back of the chair.

We sand the varnish coating from the chairs (preparing them for painting). We prime before painting - a special primer for wood. We impregnate with a moisture-resistant coating.

And attention – we add elements of strength. From below and above between the backs of the chairs we nail short wooden holder strips. They will combine the backs of the chairs into a single common back of a country bench.

Cut out the board for the seat. Please note that special square cuts are made in it (so that the high “humps” of the chair legs pass through them.

This is how we get an elegant garden bench. It can be placed on the garden lawn in a place with a table - under a canopy, in a recreation area, on a veranda or terrace. And for the winter and rainy season, bring it into the house.

But here is an idea of how we can arrange the chairs DIFFERENTLY under our future bench at the dacha - WITH ROUNDING.

You can also make a round garden bench around your favorite tree or lilac bush in your dacha - also from chairs placed in a circle with their backs.

Even if you found only 2 chairs at a flea market, you can still make an original bench with them - which only you will have.

Moreover, there is still one hiding here exclusive idea– just right for TWO chairs.

In the photo below we see exactly how you can make an elegant one out of two old chairs with your own hands. French bench-chaise.

In the photo diagram below we see a master class - where it is shown how two backs of chairs become the side elements of the frame of a garden bench.

  • First we do rectangular seat frame (light wood in the photo below) - also scientifically it is called TsARGI (frame elements under the seat of a chair, or under the table top). We nail this drawer frame to the lower slats of the chair back.
  • And then, so that our bench does not wobble back and forth, we make an additional screed frame already in the lower part of the legs of the future chaise lounge. Scientifically, such a frame-screed at the bottom of the legs is called a FOOT FRAME.
  • We paint the entire product in White color and we get a solid French bench for have a nice holiday in the country.

If desired, you can attach a backrest to such a garden chaise bench. Simply nail the boards to the side of the chair frame. How this was done is shown in the photo below.

Model No. 2

Country benches

FROM AN OLD BED.

Here are ways to create a beautiful bench for your garden using the backs of an old bed.

One back is sawn in half as is. The halves will be used as side elements of a country bench.

Even if the headboard of your bed is not made of a solid board, but is decorated with carved balusters, you can still make a bench according to this design.

The seat can be covered in one piece wooden shield. Or upholster it with slats as in the photo below.

The second headboard can be used under the FOOT part of the bench– from the front edge. How this was done is shown in the photo below. The bottom frame of the bench can simply be paved with edged planed board and paint. Or you can cut out a solid shield and put it on top of the frame.

You can use only one backrest to create a bench.

You can make a FRESH FRAME for a country bench from an edged board.

Or the frame for the seat - the bench frame - can be taken from the same material as the bed frame. How this was done is shown in the photo below.

And pay attention. Here part of the bed frame is PADDED ON TOP - to increase the level of the seat.

A beautiful country bench can be made even using modules from any other furniture. For example, from an old buffet. Let's say you have a buffet, part of which cannot be restored (drunken guests fell and broke the line of drawers).

Then fate itself tells you to make an exclusive bench out of it. It's unusual to beat the rest of the buffet. And create cozy corner for family privacy.

And you won’t want to expose such a designer bench to the rain. You will find it a place of honor in your country house. And sew blue pillows for her with embroidery of snow-white patterns.

Model No. 3

SHIELD garden benches

WITH YOUR OWN HANDS.

To immediately explain the term “panelboard”, I’ll show you such a simple design - a mini-bench made from cutting kitchen boards. This is the classic panel design of a bench. That is, the product is ASSEMBLED FROM SOLID SHIELDS.

In the photo below, the boards are connected using a groove method. The seat board fits into the grooves on the stand legs.

Here below the bench is made EXACTLY THE SAME - using the panel method. Only the material of the shield is rougher and unhewn. And here they added a back - it was also cut into grooves cut into the support panels.

  • The fastening of the shields to each other can be GROOVED (as in the photo above) - where in some shields grooves are cut out, and other shields are moving down. Such fasteners are used only in panels made from a SINGLE PIECE OF WOOD. Glued boards are not suitable for this - they can delaminate in the places where they are glued.
  • ADDITIONAL FASTENING ELEMENTS are also used for fastening – wooden(tsars, corner jibs, pro-legs), metal(angles, staples and perforated plates).

Village benches are made using the panel method. 2 side panels (these are the legs) - connected to each other by a long board (these are the legs). The board can be located in the lower part of the interleg, or in the upper part of the interleg - immediately under the seat board. In the photo below we see both of these methods of positioning the leg under the bench.

As you understand, the shields you work with do not have to have a name correct form. These may be fragments of an old gnawed board - in which you cut flat support lines for SEAT AND BACK REST.

In the photo below, the solid shield acts as a support for both the seat board and the back board.

The principle is the same here - a solid support for the seat and back of a country bench.

And this beautiful white bench for the dacha is made according to the same principle. Only it is made from evenly cut boards and painted.

Below we see a panel model of a bench with a back, where 2 panels play the role of support for the seat and back.

And these support SIDE PANELS are made under small angle tilt And so the bench turned out to have a seat with an inward slope and a slightly reclined back. It is very comfortable to sit on such a bench.

And agree to do it, cutting out such a bench with your own hands is very easy. Here the drawing does not have to be accurate. Just do it to your heart's content. Easy side angle choose by eye.

  • The side support of the backrest is in the form of a long triangle (choose the angle of inclination yourself).
  • The leg support for the seat is in the form of an elongated trapezoid (can be tilted or not).
  • A piece of thick timber is smoothed under the leg supports so that the bench has height. But if you have a wide board, then the legs will be higher on the bench, then you can do it without timber supports

All parts can be mounted on ordinary nails.

So that the bench isn't so low(if you wish) you can make the foot beams higher - knock together several pieces of timber at once - put them on top of each other like a tower and secure them with inside with a board (to keep everything together) or without a board just on nails.

And such a bench can also be PUT ON LEGS - also in the shape of an elongated trapezoid. The pads are stuffed on the inside of the seat support.

BENCH SHIELDS may be KNOWN (that is, not solid, but consisting of boards connected to each other with a bridge). The simple country bench with the photo below demonstrates this method.

And this garden bench from thick boards is also made according to the same principle.

Model No. 4

Benches FROM EDGED BOARDS

Make it with your own hands for the dacha.

And here's another simple model country bench. It is simple not only in design, but also in material. From one long edged board you can make a garden bench like this quickly and easily with your own hands.

It can be supplemented with armrests, covered with a noble dark stain, or painted with a bright rich color.

On the sides of this type of country bench you can make stands for books, beer, those things with which you like to relax in the country.

Let's look at the drawing of this country bench. We see that all the corners of the board scraps have an inclination of 30 or 60 degrees. Dimensions in the drawing are in inches. One inch is equal to 2.54 cm.

We see the drawing from the side. The length of the back and seat is your choice.

We cut the board into the pieces we need. And we assemble the bench using bolts, screws or nails.

You can also make a table for provisions with such a bench at the dacha. Or a regular shield shop.

Model No. 5

Panel benches for summer cottages

WITH CURVED SIDE SHIELD.

The shields that you cut for the SIDEWALLS of your bench at the dacha can have SMOOTH ROUNDED LINES. Then the bench can become a real work of art - your creative work.

The seat in such a bench is supported by STRAPS padded underneath it on the inside of the sidewalls.

The back rests at the bottom - on the same bar as the seat, and at the top on a bar padded vertically along the back part of the curved sides.

The boards from which you cut out the figured sidewall can be processed along the edge, giving it roundness and smoothness (left photo below).

You can also cut out the curly sides not from an ordinary shield, and from carpentry with relief - the front part of a cabinet or an old paneled door. You don’t even have to remove the door handle - but leave it for beauty (in the right photo of the bench below).

Model No. 6

Slatted bench for a summer residence

How to do it yourself.

You can also make an interesting SLATT BENCH from the carved sides. They have a round seat with smooth outlines and a curved back line.

In the photo below we see just such a bench, convenient for a summer residence.

The curvature of the bench is obtained due to the fact that narrow slats are stuffed along the CURVING PERIMETER of the shaped side parts.

In the photo below we see a master class on making such a bench for a summer house. To ensure that the slats do not sag under the weight of a sitting person, another frame figured element is made for such a bench - in the center. All three parts are connected together into one common frame - simply by FITTING THEM ON THE SLOTS OF THE BOTTOM RACKS (as in the photo below).

And then on this frame along its upper perimeter we put slats on the screws.

If you want such a bench to be longer, then you just need to make not three figured models of the frame - but four, or five, or six. And of course, the padded slats should also be long.

Model No. 7

Quick bench –

from foam blocks with a cavity.

Foam blocks (or gas silicate blocks) are sometimes made with through holes inside. This is done to save material and also to enhance the heat-shielding properties of such a building material.

And we can use this “leaky” feature of gas silicate blocks - for the good purposes of creating a bench for the dacha.

To do this, we install 2 two rows of foam blocks WITH THE HOLES DOWN, and on top we put more foam blocks WITH THE HOLES TO THE SIDE. And we insert timber of a suitable cross-section into these holes. To make it more comfortable for your butt to sit on top, you can place foam pillows. It is better to choose those that are lined with waterproof fabric. Or sew it yourself from oilcloth and thick foam rubber (sold in hardware stores and construction stores).

You can simply hammer the planks into a solid one to create a flat seat without holes.

It’s also good to coat the foam blocks with regular paint to create a bright, beautiful bench.

Each personal plot should have several benches and benches with backs, so that in good weather you can relax outside, sit under the gentle sun and just take a break from working in the garden. You can buy such a wooden or metal bench, or you can simply make it yourself. In this article we will look at what types of benches there are and how you can make one of them yourself, having all the necessary tools and materials at hand.

How are there species?

There is a bench with a back a large number of and every owner country house or a dacha chooses for himself the option that is most suitable for the exterior of his personal plot.

Benches come in a variety of varieties depending on their scope of application.

  • Ordinary benches with a back are suitable for any personal plot and will fit perfectly into the exterior of the yard. They are comfortable and very practical, as they have a simple design and are unpretentious in their appearance. Suitable for installation near the house, in a gazebo, near a pond, etc. They can be made of wood, metal, stone, and also be combined (wood and metal, wood and stone, wood and brick, plastic and other building materials).
  • Corner benches will look great where you can’t put a regular large bench with a back. They can be placed in the corners of the gazebo, in gardens, as well as in any convenient location on a personal plot. Such benches can be metal, wooden, stone or combined.
  • Ordinary benches without a back can be installed anywhere, as they are universal and convenient enough for any country house. They can be easily made with your own hands, since they are made according to the most common standard drawing of the classical type.
  • Oval, round or semicircular benches with and without a back will look great in the center of the same round gazebo, in the center of the garden or in another place where they will create an aesthetic exterior for the entire garden plot, as well as perform their direct functions. Also in the center of a round bench a tree, green bush, or blossom can grow beautiful flower bed or even a children's sandbox. Here everything depends on the imagination of the master and the functional needs of the owners of a country house or dacha. They can be made of wood, metal, stone, and also in a combined form from various natural materials compatible with each other.

Preparatory stage: drawings, dimensions, angle of inclination

Before you start making a bench for your personal plot from any type of material, you need to take all measurements and draw up an accurate drawing future design. This is necessary so that it turns out smooth without distortions and rolls. Also, the design diagram will help to calculate required amount material for making benches of any type.

To make wooden structures for a personal plot, pine, oak, birch boards or logs, as well as pear, hornbeam and durable larch are usually used. Almost any tree is easy to process, has excellent decorative qualities, and also fits aesthetically into the countryside landscape. The main advantage of wood is its beautiful aesthetic appearance. But meanwhile, it negatively tolerates exposure to sunlight, high humidity and low temperature (very coldy). Therefore, it is best to install wooden benches in closed gazebos, on terraces covered with awnings or make them portable (collapsible) so that they can be removed in closed room(pantry, basement, closet) for the winter.

Steel supports will be the most competent choice for making a bench with a wooden seat and back to place it on the territory of a summer house or country house. This bench will serve you for at least 15 years, and you will not need to remove it during snow or rain.

How to make a wooden bench with a backrest with your own hands

To set up a wooden bench we will need:

Before you start making a wooden portable bench, you need to cut the boards into certain elements:

  1. All prepared boards must be sanded, all side parts smoothed and thoroughly soaked with antiseptic. Then leave until completely dry.
  2. We mark the height of the bench at 40 cm. Starting from the very middle at the top of the elements of the longest legs that will hold the back, you need to make an oblique cut at a slight angle of about 20°. Then all the corners of the bars must be cut down and sanded on both sides. In this case, the back will have an inclined shape. The cuts must be strictly identical, otherwise the bench will end up skewed and have an unattractive appearance, and it will be uncomfortable to sit on.
  3. Assembling the bench legs. The distance between the legs should be about 28 cm. The front (facade) and rear wooden pairs of benches for support on the invisible inner side must be fastened using prepared bars and screws. We connect the legs with a beam, which we cut to cover the entire width of the structure - 50 cm. It is best to do a double strapping - top and bottom.
  4. In order to protect self-tapping screws and screws from premature corrosion, it is necessary to pre-drill required holes and slightly deepen their heads into the board.
  5. On the frame of the bench, as shown in the drawing, we nail or screw the planks at certain intervals (1 or 2 cm). Three planks will be used for the seat and two planks for the back. After all the elements are filled, it is necessary to check with a level the correctness and evenness of the entire structure. For greater reliability, stability and rigidity, the legs at the bottom are secured with strips on both sides. It is advisable to leave gaps of several centimeters between the slats for better air circulation and drainage. We attach the backrest (the first bar) at a distance of 20 cm from the seat, and the second - at a distance of 38 cm from the seat.
  6. The structure of the bench needs to be strengthened and for this it is necessary to bottom trim legs To do this, we take two beams 1.5 meters long and screw them to the front and rear legs of the bench frame.

Bench decoration

After completing all carpentry work, the bench must be completely treated with fire retardant and then covered with waterproof varnish in several layers or regular oil paint.

If you want to make the bench more aesthetically pleasing and designer-friendly, you can simply saw the boards lengthwise and then stuff them diagonally, crosswise or in a herringbone pattern.

Making a garden bench from wood and metal

A bench with a back, a wooden seat and durable metal legs will the best option garden furniture that can be installed in your garden plot. This design can be left outside without any problems even in winter.

Material calculation and necessary tools

To make a bench we will need:

  • One iron corner with a shelf measuring 40 - 50 mm;
  • One beam for making a bench seat 40 mm thick;
  • Special bolts;
  • Hacksaw or grinder;
  • Drill;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Electric or gas welding machine;
  • Sandpaper or sanding machine.

Step-by-step instruction

  1. The metal corner must be cut into four pieces of one meter each to make vertical supports for the structure. Cut five pieces of half a meter and two pieces of one and a half meters to make a frame for installing a seat and back boards on it.
  2. To make the back and seat, we cut seven strips of timber, 1.5 meters long and 10 cm wide. We sand them and smooth all the side parts well. We soak all the boards well with an antiseptic and leave until completely dry.
  3. We cut the ends of the joining parts from the iron corners exactly at an angle of 45° and then connect them in series using hot welding. First, we make a frame for the seat device and weld it well iron legs for subsequent attachment of backrests to them, as well as stops. During the welding process it is necessary to use protective equipment.
  4. In the boards of the seat and back, where the fastenings will be located, it is necessary to drill holes for special bolts. After welding work metal structure It is necessary to sand well at the seams in order to eliminate all irregularities and bumps. Then treat the metal with a special anti-corrosion coating and oil paint in two layers.
  5. We bolt the finished back and seat boards to the finished metal frame. We first impregnate the boards with a fire retardant (preferably saline) and then cover them good layer water-repellent varnish or colored paint.
  6. It is necessary to make markings on the ground for the legs. To do this, you need to dig four holes about 50 cm deep and pour river sand (about 10 cm) on the bottom, and fine gravel (about 20 cm) on top. We lay pieces of roofing felt on top and put reinforcement mesh. We install the bench legs into the holes and check the horizontal evenness of the structure with a level. Then fill the legs with concrete (ratio of sand and cement 3:1).
  7. If you plan to place the bench on a regular asphalt or paved surface, then you do not need to make a concrete foundation. The legs of the structure are made from four pieces of iron angle, about half a meter long. For greater stability to the bottom of the corners, it is necessary to weld square “heels” or strengthen the entire structure using a lower metal frame.

Finishing

All metal structural elements must be treated with anti-corrosion agents and primed. Then paint with regular oil paint.

We impregnate the wooden elements with special antifungal agents and fire retardants, and then paint them with waterproof varnish or colored oil paint.

If desired, the metal parts of the bench can be decorated with various forged iron patterns, which you can forge yourself or purchase ready-made from special companies.

Bench for a personal plot on brick supports

Material calculation and tools

To make a bench we will need:

  • Construction brick;
  • Wooden boards (thickness about 40 mm);
  • A pack of self-tapping screws and self-tapping screws;
  • Several bags of cement, fine sifted sand (6 bags or more) and gravel.

Step by Step Actions

On stone-paved and concreted areas, the bench must be placed on a cement foundation. On soft ground it will be necessary to make a columnar foundation.

  1. We mark the area for the installation of brick racks and remove upper layer soil (turf). We dig holes with a diameter of 20x20 cm and a depth of about 50 - 60 cm to construct the foundation. At the very bottom of the well we pour sand 10 cm thick and on top crushed stone 20 cm thick. We compact all this well, water it a little and leave it for a day.
  2. We put several pieces of roofing felt on top and place a bundle of five reinforcing rods in the hole. We fill it all with concrete and let it harden for about three or four days. To mix concrete, we take cement, sand and fine gravel (1:3:5).
  3. We place a small layer of liquid concrete (1–2 centimeters) on the prepared foundation. This will be the basis for the future brick decorative base. Next, we begin to lay the brick with the dressing. The masonry is made to the width necessary for the structure, that is, the same as the bench itself or a little narrower. The height of the brickwork should be about 50 cm. Inside the masonry on the top row we leave space to form a shelf for the subsequent installation of a bench seat.
  4. We fasten the seat boards together using boards and self-tapping screws. Then we install the finished bench on the prepared brick supports. We impregnate the wood with fire retardant, let it dry and cover it with a special water-repellent varnish or colored paint.
  5. Also, depending on how long the bench will be, you will need to make several brick supports. Corner or shaped (semicircular, round, oval) structures are best installed on a solid brick base, which will be located on a strip-type foundation.

Bench decoration

We treat all wooden planks with antifungal agents and fire retardants, and then prime and cover them with waterproof varnish or regular oil paint. Brickwork does not need additional finishing, as in itself it looks quite beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. If you still want to make it a different color, you can also paint it with oil paint.

Video: how to make a bench for a country house yourself

If you make a bench out of wood and metal with your own hands, you will be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years and relax on it in the shade fruit trees. With proper and timely care, such a wooden bench with metal or brick supports will serve for many years. But in order to prevent it from being damaged by heavy rains or snow in winter or autumn, it is best to put it indoors, if possible. Regular maintenance can significantly extend the life of your bench in your garden.

Benches and benches in the garden at the dacha are a popular place to relax. Sometimes putting up an ordinary bench is not interesting and banal.

After all, it is possible to build a whole corner for relaxation and comfort, so that you can not just sit on a bench, but already enjoy nature, your garden, and the fruits you planted with your own hands. There are many different ideas here.

The construction of benches is usually lightweight and does not require special skills. Anyone can create a relaxation corner with a bench, if they wish.

Options for ideas

Everyone has seen the photo of an ordinary bench. But you don’t want the simplest bench for your garden; you want something more original and beautiful.

If everything in your garden is already decorated and the whole area is in order, then a bench will never become superfluous. And, if you are just starting to equip your site, then it’s time to start with equipping a bench.

Wooden bench

A DIY wooden bench will harmonize well in the garden with all sorts of flower beds of beautiful flowers.

The simplest option for building a garden bench is two wooden boxes in which inflorescences grow, and between them a couple of sanded boards. If necessary, this bench can be placed near the wall, if possible.

Many people don’t like material like wood, because it gets wet quickly and is very difficult to care for. Instead of wooden material stone and concrete come to the rescue.

In order to make a bench with a back, you need to try a little. For the backrest, they most often buy already treated wood. The easiest way to secure the seat is with metal corners.

TO concrete material they can be attached using dowels, and to wooden material using self-tapping screws from the bottom or through bolts.

Many summer residents are wondering how to make a bench on their own for their home and garden. And every year this question is gaining popularity.

Many people give preference to shop benches that are already ready, but by doing the work yourself, you can completely surrender to the process and use your imagination completely.

Metal bench

Metal benches are installed by a minority, since they, of course, are aesthetic and original products, but in the summer they are a material that heats up to crazy temperatures, and if it gets even a little colder, the material becomes icy, and it is impossible to sit on it.

If you really want to use metal in the process of creating a bench, then you should combine two materials in the work: metal and wood. In this case, the seats and backrests are made of wooden material, and the designs of the legs and additional elements are created on the basis of metal.

There are many different original options benches in this style.

Note!

Pipe benches have become very popular recently. From profile pipe using boiling, rectangles are made, and jumpers are attached to the side walls, on which the bench seats will rest. This is a very reliable and safe option for creating a bench with your own hands.

If this option is slightly improved, then armrests are used for greater convenience and comfort. A bench in the garden with a wide seat, like a sofa, will also look elegant and original. This is comfort, convenience and luxury!

For complete comfort, you can put decorated pillows on such benches so that you can not only sit, but also take a nap in nature.

Benches made of boards

A simple bench made of boards will also look aesthetically pleasing, the main thing is to know how to make it. There are the simplest designs, like ordinary benches, and there are more complicated ones in the form of a sofa or an elongated chair.

IN modern style It’s easy to assemble such a bench; you just need to connect rectangles with partitions made of thin boards together.

The main thing is to turn on your imagination. Even the most simple work can become the source of a masterpiece.

Note!

On the basis of thin boards it is possible to make various shapes benches. For example, in the shape of the letter P. The main thing here is to fix the seats and legs well and securely. This bench is easy to make, but will last a long time.

Note!

Garden benches are the most popular small architectural forms. They can be made in any size and design, but in addition to their direct purpose, benches also perform a decorative function. You can make a garden bench for yourself using our drawings and photographs.

How to make a bench from waste materials

The easiest way is to make a bench out of wood. This traditional material for garden furniture, affordable and easy to process. But even in this case, you can save money by choosing as the main material the one that literally lies under your feet.

The first option is trees, poles and stumps from your own site or a nearby forest plantation, in which sanitary felling is carried out.

Having carefully cut off a couple of medium-sized stumps, they can be placed on the base of the bench. Use poles to make a bottom crossbar for structural rigidity. And for sitting, loosen part of the trunk on the circular. If there is no equipment for longitudinal sawing, then you can take an unedged board 75 mm thick.

In this example, the bench is already more comfortable - in addition to the seat, it also has a backrest. The model is a little more complicated, since you will have to find a higher part of the trunk and process it in two steps - first make a profile cut with a “ledge”, and then split the workpiece into two halves.

And to assemble the next bench, you will need:

  • two short logs of the same diameter for the base;
  • two medium-thick poles for back support;
  • one long log, sawn into two halves (for the seat and back).

In short logs, you need to choose a groove so that the long log fits into it. Then the seat is secured in the grooves, and each pole is fixed at two points - to the base and to the seat. For fastening, it is better to choose powerful self-tapping wood bolts.

Another budget material for a country bench is pallets ( wooden pallets). But not just any pallet is suitable for making garden furniture. Ideally, you need a good edged board, a so-called Euro pallet, which can be identified by the EUR marking.

In principle, the standard width of a Euro pallet is somewhat large for a seat - 80 cm. You can shorten it to 67 cm by cutting it along the contour of the central bar. But you don’t have to do this. Here are some examples simple designs with different base and seat options:

1. A bench made of four pallets uncut to width. Three serve as the base, and the fourth serves as the back. You will have to remove some of the support bars from the pallet for the backrest, and ensure the rigidity of the bench using wooden slats.

2. In this case, four pallets are also used, but already trimmed. Three ropes woven with a braid are used to secure the backrest, and wallpaper nails are used for decoration.

3. This bench is made from just two pallets. One is whole, and the second is cut and, as it were, bent at an angle - it serves as both a seat and a backrest. The design is good for its mobility - there are small wheels as legs.

Perhaps the only inconvenience of using Euro pallets as source material- This standard sizes 80x120 cm. They to some extent limit the possibilities for creativity. The use of ordinary lumber (boards, beams and beams) allows you to make a garden bench to suit every taste.

Board and block

It’s worth saying right away that any bench drawing can be adjusted for specific conditions. The only limitation is that the thickness of the board and the cross-section of the beam are sufficient to provide load-bearing properties.

Below is a drawing of a bench, which is made of only three “paired” elements:

  • seat and back;
  • a short support (back leg) made of a trapezoid-shaped board;
  • long support (front leg).

1- front leg; 2 - rear leg; 3 - seat; 4 - back; 5 - front view; 6 - side view

The result is a stable structure with a triangle at the base and two transverse stiffeners.

This is what this bench looks like in real life.

This drawing shows the bench in a more complex design. To make it, you need a 40x140 mm board (supports, back and seat), a 40x70 mm block (short bundles of supports) and a 20 mm board (long bundle between the sidewalls).

And this is the same design, but using a board and a block 75 mm thick. Small differences in the base and attachment of the ligaments are not fundamental.

In principle, there is only one condition - the boards in the seat are fastened with a small gap, sufficient to compensate for the expansion of the wood under high humidity.

Large forms

Wooden benches in a “large format” look original.

For example, here is a “thick” unedged board across the entire width of the log. Covered with clear varnish, it conveys natural beauty wood with all color transitions.

From rounded logs you can build not only a cottage or a bathhouse, but also a garden bench like this.

And from timber you can assemble an original chair that can serve not only under a canopy, but also on outdoors— removable pillows are easy to bring into the house in bad weather.

Stone and wood

Stone, like wood, also fits organically into the landscape of a suburban area. Of course, a smooth slab is practically never found in nature, but you can use sawn stone.

The next option is easier to implement - the bench is made of small blocks of wild stone. And since such a surface is not only cold, but also uneven, you can’t do without pillows.

Pillows add comfort, but you have to constantly bring them in and out. That is why wood is used for seats on garden benches, regardless of the base material. Like this one original bench, at the base of which a gabion is used (a mesh cage filled with stone, crushed stone or pebbles).

Concrete is no less popular for making the base of a bench. But it’s difficult to make a form with a complex contour for pouring at once, but small formwork is simple. And even a “cold seam” when poured in two steps will not affect the strength of the structure (such as in this photo).

Another option artificial stone– hollow construction concrete blocks. It is enough to fasten them together with good masonry glue, and lay a beam in the cavity, and the bench is ready.

Metal and wood

The simplest benches in design metal frame use a square profile.

You can weld two sidewalls in the form of the letter “H” from a profile pipe, and wooden seat from the array will also serve as a “stiffening rib”.

The following example also uses solid wood as a stiffening element, but the supports are made in the form of a square with a cross member for attaching the seat.

And this is the simplest self-supporting structure made of a square profile, the strength and rigidity of the welded base is sufficient for the seat to be made from a wooden block.

The following photo shows a factory-made bench.

But if you have a pipe bender in your home workshop (and it’s easy to make one with your own hands), then bend two types of arches and a “wave” from round pipe Just. Then metal blanks you need to weld it, put plastic plugs on the legs (sold for any profile and pipe size) and fix the bars on the “wave”.
