How to increase the speed of the reading technique. Exercise. The benefits of speed reading for children

Try reading without speaking to yourself. Now read a page of text without being distracted or re-reading the sentences. Turn the book upside down and read the paragraph. It turns out? These and other simple exercises will help you master your speed reading skills.

People who want to become professionals in their field have to work through a huge array of information. In addition, there is so much in the world, but time is sorely lacking. There is a way out - to learn to read quickly. And this is possible: John Kennedy, Maxim Gorky and others read quickly, up to 2 thousand words per minute. For example, Napoleon read a rather voluminous book every morning before breakfast, managing to mark important thoughts on its margins.

And the former American president, who reads at an incredible speed, has developed his own, which is being successfully used by those who want to learn it now.

It can be argued that reading quickly decreases reading comprehension and comprehension. But practice shows that the opposite is true: with normal reading, about half of the information is assimilated, while with speed reading 70-80%.

Why does this happen? Because fast reading requires more concentration than normal reading, during which we read not so carefully. We have parallel thoughts: we think about current affairs, for example, that it would be time to turn off the refrigerator, about the upcoming vacation, or we return to past events in our thoughts. Not surprisingly, reading progresses slowly, and new information is poorly remembered.

You can master the methods of speed reading at special trainings: 5 lessons of 3.5-4 hours are enough. Their advantage lies not only in the fact that classes are conducted by specialists, but also in the fact that, firstly, the person who paid for the training is unlikely to want to voluntarily skip classes. Secondly, teachers form pairs of students, thanks to which classes become more effective. Thus, the one who dares to miss the lesson will let the partner down - the obligation to him will serve as an additional incentive not to shy away from the lesson.

You can do it yourself. For this you just need great desire, belief in results and daily training. And if many have a desire, then it will be more difficult with faith. Let us remember how children learn to ride a bicycle: whoever thinks that he will fall really falls; those who are sure that they will go right away, somehow miraculously keep their balance and go. We believe - we will succeed!

As for training, we do special exercises daily for 30-40 minutes for 21 days. Psychologists believe that it takes so long to get rid of an old habit and instill a new one.

For exercises, you need to choose a convenient time and place so that nothing distracts from reading. It is useless to do this, for example, in the subway, where it is impossible to concentrate.

What slows down reading?

1. Pronunciation of the text while reading "to oneself", or subvocalization

This habit is formed in us when we learn to read and pronounce each word aloud by syllables. We learned to read, but the habit remained. Some not only internally pronounce the text, but also move their lips at the same time. Naturally, fast reading is out of the question, because with all the desire, a person is not able to say more than 500 words per minute. This means that he will read at the same speed. The one who masters the methods of speed reading will be able to read up to 2 thousand words during the same time.

2. Regression reading

The main brake that restrains the speed of reading is the return movement of the eyes to the already read text. It seems to us that by rereading a phrase or paragraph, we delve deeper into their essence, but in reality this is not so. The logic of the text itself is violated, and we are forced to return to what we have read again and again, which only aggravates the situation. Speed reading experts believe that, if necessary, it is better to return to a certain place after the entire text has been read.

By getting rid of the regressions with which most people read, you can increase your reading speed by 2-3 times.

3. Limited field of view

The field of view is the space of perception of the text. For people who read slowly (and most of them), it is 4-5 cm. They can be compared with peeping through the keyhole, who see only a small part of the picture. Experts say that it is impossible to expand the field of vision with training. But with their help, you can learn to perceive information that is located in the area covered by peripheral vision. And as a result of training, it can be up to 10 cm.

Speed Reading Exercises

Knowing the "enemy" of speed reading "in the face", we can eliminate it. Do not expect immediate results and be disappointed if they are not there or they leave much to be desired. Developing any new skill takes some time. It's like in sports: high results are achieved only by hard training.

1. We read with a pointer

To make our eyes glide smoothly forward, we read with a pointer (sushi stick), moving it a little faster than our understanding of the text. You can also do this with your finger, if that's more convenient.

This exercise is called a reading speed boost exercise. The gaze should follow only the lines along which the pointer moves, and in no case let it out of sight, returning to what has already been read.

After a while, we will get rid of the regressions and will be able to read without a pointer.

2. Suppress articulation

Some experts consider subvocalization a natural process that helps reduce the burden associated with the assimilation of new material. However, it slows down reading significantly.

It is possible to suppress articulation - the work of the speech organs (tongue, lips, larynx) while reading "to oneself", and not aloud, can be done with the help of distraction. That is, in parallel with reading, we (or the partner studying with us) can tap some kind of rhythm on the table with a pencil. This will distract us from mentally speaking the text.

In addition to tapping, you can use the countdown method: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, etc. We will keep track of the count so as not to get lost, and we will not be able to pronounce the words. Instead of counting, you can hum some tune (aloud or "to yourself"), read tongue twisters or simple rhymes by heart.

3. Green point method

This method allows you to learn to perceive information in the field of peripheral vision. Draw a green dot in the center of the page with some text and focus on it for 10 minutes. We mentally imagine a green dot in front of us and when we go to bed and close our eyes.

After practicing focusing on the green dot for two weeks, we begin to consider the text located horizontally and vertically from it. We try to cover as many words as possible with our eyes - they do not need to be read, it is enough just to see.

Exercise with a green dot can be supplemented by exercises with Schulte tables, designed specifically to improve peripheral vision. The tables themselves and the methodology for teaching them can be downloaded from one of the sites.

4. Train gibberish

Training in so-called gibberish reading, or reading from right to left, develops thinking, attention and the ability to concentrate.

To begin with, you can practice reading from right to left using palindrome (from the Greek. "Back" and "run") - words or phrases that are read equally from left to right and vice versa. Examples of palindrome: “A rose fell on the paw of Azor”, “Roads Rome city or roads Mirgorod”, “Cat will soon be forty days”, “Pressed a boar on an eggplant,” etc. And then you can start training on a regular text. On the Internet, you can find a website that offers electronic books written from right to left and order them for free.

5. Reading upside down

Exercises to read an upside-down book can increase your reading speed. First we read a paragraph in an overturned book, then we return it to its normal position and re-read it. We will immediately feel how easy and fast we can do it!

6. Tick-tock method

While reading, we capture with a glance only the beginning and end of the line, and not every word, as in normal reading. This will be enough to understand the meaning of what you have read, while the speed of reading will increase significantly.

7. Reading diagonally

The gaze slides along the diagonal of the page. Eye movements to the left or to the right are not allowed, return to what has already been read. At first, the gaze will cover only a few words, but as you train, the perceived volume will increase. The main thing in this method is to learn how to highlight key phrases and skip verbal rubbish. You need to start reading from the top left corner of the page to the bottom right. People who have mastered this method only need to glance over the page to understand what is at stake.

Those who want to thoroughly master the methods of speed reading should find the right book. It could be “Learning to read quickly” by I. Golovleva. There are also a lot of educational video courses on the Web, for example "More than speed reading".

It is convenient and interesting to learn speed reading using various applications. One of them is Spreeder. The text is loaded into it, and the number of words and the speed of their appearance can be set independently.

Speed reading is an important skill in today's speed world. If you want to achieve outstanding results in your career or in the study of science, you will have to read a large number of literature, both technical and fiction. In order to absorb large amounts of information, you need to be able to read quickly.

At the moment, there are a large number of techniques for studying speed reading, they all have a right to exist. Some have serious Scientific research, and some, on the contrary, are more like intuitive research. This or that technique is suitable for each person, it is difficult to say which one is exactly right for you.

When a person is faced with the realization of the problem of low reading speed, he begins to look for information on this topic on the Internet, books, and ask friends and acquaintances. After a while, if this idea is not bored, a certain understanding of speed reading techniques begins to develop, and then it is important to start applying them.

Most simple techniques, which are guaranteed to help you increase your reading speed, do not represent anything difficult. These are just a few exercises that need to be repeated for a while. It's a lot like learning touch typing on a keyboard. You need to do exercises for 15-20 minutes a day and in a couple of weeks you can reach a fairly high speed.

Most readers encounter the classic mistake that consumes 30% of their reading time. This is a return to an already read text. When it seems to us that we have poorly grasped a thought, or are distracted by an external thought, we go back and read the piece of text again.

Focus Training Technique

In order to cope with the return to the read text, it is necessary to keep the focus on the reading place. To do this, you can use the reading tracking technique. You need to take a pencil and start driving it along the line while reading. The focus should always be on the pencil, you cannot go back to the text you read. This is a difficult task at first, but it will get better and better over time.

Technique "Increase in speed"

To increase your reading speed, you need to train this skill like any other. For speed training, you need to read very quickly. Approximately 3 times faster than the desired reading speed. For example, you read at a speed of 200 words per minute, and you want to increase this value to 300 words per minute. Then, in a speed exercise, you need to read 900 words per minute. You don't need to worry about the fact that you do not remember or understand anything - this is speed training. And it's important not to forget about the pencil, which prevents you from going back while reading.

Peripheral Vision Enlargement Technique

In normal reading, which we were taught in school, a person reads all the words in a line. This allows you not to miss anything written in the text. But this is not always necessary to understand the meaning of the text. If you develop peripheral reading, then you can see not one word but several words in one stop of focus on the text.

There are many ways to train peripheral reading different techniques, the most common are Schulte tables. Going back to peripheral vision for reading, there is a simple exercise to increase your reading speed. It is not necessary to read all the words in a line, but to skip a few words at the beginning and at the end of the line. This greatly increases speed, but does not greatly affect understanding.

With a high reading speed, you can face the effect of reading for the sake of reading, when you do not have time to assimilate information for its further application in life. To prevent such an effect, it is necessary to make small pauses to comprehend the information. A few seconds after each paragraph is enough for its essence to be deposited in long-term memory.

If you are reading scientific or business literature, then it is better to do a short sketch of ideas or data from what you read. Then you will be able to work with this information after reading the book and will not lose important data that can be applied in your field. Ideas can be presented as a list or text in various editors, and mind maps can also be used, which allow you to create multi-level lists that are easy to understand.

Hello, friends! What are you complaining about? Is your child's reading technique lame? Tax, we will treat. Keep the recipe. I am prescribing special exercises for the development of reading techniques. Take regularly, once a day, several pieces. And the reading technique will stand firmly on its feet, and then it will jump forward.

Such magic exercises do exist. And if you try, then on the Internet you can find hundreds of different techniques, approaches, methods. To be honest, the eyes run up, and the brain begins to slowly boil. You don't know what to choose.

In order to protect my readers from such problems, I allowed myself to make a choice on my own. The article contains only the most interesting and delicious, in my opinion, exercises that will undoubtedly help to raise the reading technique to the level provided. I do not pretend to be their authorship, they were developed by professionals: teachers, psychologists, professors.

But I claim the authorship of their names. Painfully they are boring in the original performance. Agree, "The Mystery of the Missing Sentence" sounds much more fun than the "Visual dictation of Professor I.T. Fedorenko ". And it will surely arouse more interest among younger students.

Lesson plan:

List of exercises

And here he is! List of special reading exercises:

  1. "Half a watermelon"
  2. Lost Letters
  3. "Very sharp eye"
  4. "Sherlock"
  5. "Through the looking glass"
  6. "Crazy Book"
  7. "The Birds Have Arrived"
  8. "Partizan"
  9. “Eh, one! Again!"
  10. "The Mystery of the Lost Offer"

Exercise 1. "Half a watermelon"

Ask your child if he can, after seeing half a watermelon, imagine what a whole watermelon looks like? Of course, the answer is yes. Now suggest doing the same experiment with words.

Take a book and an opaque ruler. Cover one line in the book with a ruler so that only upper part words. Objective: to read the text, seeing only the tops of the letters.

Move the ruler up and show only the bottom of the words. We read. This, by the way, is already more difficult.

For very young schoolchildren, you can offer another version of the game. Make cards with simple words. And then cut these cards along the words into two halves. You need to connect the two halves correctly.

How is it useful? Aimed at developing anticipation. Anticipation is anticipation. Such an ability of the brain, which gives us the opportunity, when reading, not to read absolutely all words and letters. The brain already knows that they are there, so why waste time on them? Anticipation can be developed, it makes reading fluent, mindful, easy.

Exercise 2. "Lost Letters"

Another exercise to develop anticipation.

Letters and words sometimes get lost. But even without some letters and words, we can read. Let's try?

Write on paper, print on a printer, or write on a marker on a special board the phrases you see below.

Book ... shelf.

New ... T-shirt.

Great ... spoon.

Ginger ... cat.

Another phrase like this:

Bobik ate all the cutlets,

He does not share .......

And more like this:

Ok-ok-ok - we will build .......

Yuk-yuk-yuk - ours broke ...

Exercise 3. "Eye is a diamond"

Look at the picture and draw the same rectangle. Place the numbers from 1 to 30 in the cells, in random order, but not one after another. The numbers should be randomly scattered across the cells.

The schoolboy looks closely at the picture with the sign.

The counting is even, not too fast, but also not too slow.

Child's task:

  • on the count of one, find and show the unit with your finger;
  • on the count of two - two;
  • three - three, etc.

If the child hesitates with some figure, then the account will not wait for him, you need to catch up, search faster. For babies, you can draw smaller signs, for example, 3X3 or 4X4.

What is the point of the exercise? It is aimed at increasing the viewing angle of view. In order to "catch" with your eyes not one letter, not one word, but several words at once, or a whole line while reading. The wider we look, the faster we will read.

One table can be used two or three times, then the location of the numbers must be changed.

Exercise 4. "Sherlock"

Place the words on a piece of paper. Very different, not very long. In no particular order. Scatter them on paper, as it were. Name one of the words and ask your child to find it. Words can be, for example, the following:

frame, jelly, spoon, chair, horse, gold, soap, pen, mouse, mouth, knee, dog, summer, lake, cancer

Each next word will be faster than the previous one. Since trying to find one word, the student will read others along the way, and remember where they are. And that's all we need.

Thanks to "Sherlock" the angle of view is increased. And reading speed.

Exercise 5. "Through the looking glass"

We got into the looking glass world, and everything is the other way around. And they even read everything not from left to right, but from right to left. Let's try?

So, we read the lines in the books from left to right. To clarify, the words themselves do not need to be turned over. It is not necessary to read "tomegeb" instead of "hippopotamus".

With this method of reading, the meaning of the text is lost. Therefore, all attention turns to correct and clear pronunciation of words.

Exercise 6. "Crazy Book"

Tell your child that sometimes some ill-mannered books behave rather strangely. They suddenly pick up and turn upside down.

The child reads aloud. After a while, you clap your hands. The child's task is to turn the book upside down and continue reading from where he left off. At first, you can make marks with a pencil, so as not to get lost in the text. And so several times. Two, three full turns of the book.

If your student is still only in grade 1, and maybe in grade 2, but reading is still very difficult, then you can read not a book with texts, but short ones simple words printed one after another on paper.

What will it give? Eye coordination will develop, the ability to navigate the text. A standard of letters will be formed. And the processing of information by the brain will improve.

Exercise 7. "The Birds Have Arrived"

Show your child the phrase "the birds have arrived." And ask to read it:

  • calmly;
  • joyfully;
  • loud;
  • quiet;
  • sad;
  • with irritation;
  • with fear;
  • with a mockery;
  • with anger.

Exercise 8. "Partisan"

The student reads the text (or individual words, if he is still very young) aloud. You say: "Partizan". At this signal, the student takes a pencil in his mouth (squeezes it between his lips and teeth) and continues reading to himself. At the signal "The partisan escaped," we take out the pencil and read it aloud again. And so several times.

Why is this? To eliminate the pronunciation of words while reading to yourself. Speaking is the enemy quick reading... So you need to remove it. And when a pencil is clamped in your teeth, you will not be able to pronounce.

Exercise 9. “Eh, time! Again!"

For this exercise, we need a stopwatch and a text to read.

We read within 1 minute. Pay attention to the speed of reading, but you can forget about expressiveness for now. Ready? Go!

The minute is over. Stop! Let's make a mark where we left off.

Let's take a little rest and read the same text one more time. Go! In a minute, we make a serif. Wow! More already.

And what will happen the third time? And the third time will be even cooler!

What does it give us? Increased reading speed. And the motivation of the child. He himself will see that he is capable of more.

Exercise 10. "The Mystery of the Missing Sentence"

In order to solve the mystery, we need cards with sentences (look at the picture). There are 6 cards in total. Each has one sentence. The font is large and easy to read.

Let's prepare a notebook and a pen. We start the exercise:

  1. Show your child the first card.
  2. The student reads the sentence and tries to remember.
  3. Remove the card after 6 - 8 seconds.
  4. The child writes down a sentence in a notebook from memory.
  5. Show the child the second card, etc. to the sixth sentence.

What's the point here?

As I said, in fact, this is not a game, but visual dictations developed by Professor I.T. Fedorenko. There are 18 such dictations in total. Each has six sentences.

In our example, I used the very first dictation. What is their feature? Please count the letters in the first sentence of the dictation. There are 8 of them.

In the second - 9,

in the third - 10,

in the fourth and fifth to 11,

in the sixth already 12.

That is, the number of letters in sentences gradually increases and eventually reaches 46 in the last sentence of the 18th dictation.

The texts of Fedorenko's dictations can be easily found on the Internet. One dictation can be used twice, three times, if the child cannot do everything correctly. By the fourth time, usually everything works out.

It is convenient to use Microsoft Power Point to complete this exercise. The one in which presentations are usually made.

By playing "The Mystery of the Missing Sentence" you develop RAM... When such memory is poorly developed, the child, having read the sixth word in the sentence, will not be able to remember the first. Do visual dictations every day and there will be no such problems.

How to do it?

You don't have to try to do all the exercises at once. Only the game “The Mystery of Disappearing Sentences” requires your daily attention, and then add a couple more, three exercises of your choice to it. Change them, alternate so as not to get bored. Do not forget at times to measure your progress.

You need to do it regularly, every day, little by little. This is the main rule! WITH detailed plan workouts are available.

Do not be lazy, exercise, and you will have happiness and fives in your diary!

Friends, maybe you also know some interesting way improving reading technique? I dare to hope that you will share it in the comments. Thank you very much in advance!

And see you soon on the blog!

Evgenia Klimkovich.

The faster you read, the more time you have for others. important goals and tasks. Given the pace modern life, the ability to quickly master certain materials is a very valuable ability. How can I increase my average reading speed?

1. Stop subvocalizing

As you read this text, you probably hear a voice in your head repeating every word you read. And that's okay. Such mental pronunciation of the text is called subvocalization... Think back to your childhood and the methods you were taught to read. As you read, you slowly say each word you read out loud, as this is one of the most effective technicians learning. However, even when you stopped reading aloud, this habit has not disappeared anywhere. It's just that now you are pronouncing words in your mind, and this process significantly slows down the pace of your reading. People with the fastest reading speed do not focus on every single word, but perceive the text as a whole.

It can be very difficult to stop subvocalizing, especially when you have been practicing this habit for several decades. Here's a helpful tip to help you. Instead of subvocalizing, try mentally counting from 1 to 10 as you read, or replace that inner voice with a mental buzz. As you do this, keep sliding your eyes over the words in the text in front of you. Practice this exercise as often as possible, and if you notice that you are returning to subvocalization again, start counting or humming again. If you keep making the effort, you can turn off the voice in your head and increase your reading speed several times.

2. Preview complex texts

Finding ways to speed up the pace of reading is definite. Especially when it comes to complex technical or highly specialized materials, texts, on which it is quite problematic to just slide your eyes. Instead of spending hours reading this kind of material, rereading long sentences over and over again, spend a little time previewing such complex texts. To understand them general meaning As you turn the pages, note factors such as the length of the text, the main topics and concepts, the number of chapters and how they are divided.

Why is preview useful? Scanning material like this is very effective strategy to increase reading speed. As you scan through the text, you can identify sections and chapters that deserve close attention, as well as parts that you can spend much less time.

3. Don't be afraid to skip words.

As we learn reading skills, we are taught to pay attention to every word written on the page. However, ours has one. He is quite capable of filling in any gaps. It is enough to select only a few of the most important words in each sentence to understand the general meaning of the text. As a result, you do not have to process literally every word, which saves a huge amount of time and positively affects the pace of reading. However, be careful when using this method. It is great for light writing, but it will be incredibly difficult to understand technical or academic materials with its help.

4. Combine words into groups

Another effective strategy for developing your reading speed. It consists in the perception not of individual words, but of their groups. This method is quite complicated and requires practice, so it is better to start with light texts. Clustering is concentration of attention on 2-3 words of text at once. Being able to perceive several words at the same time has a tremendous effect on your reading speed.

5. Make a plan

Chances are, making a plan isn't where you usually start reading. You just set a goal for yourself - to get to the last page of this or that material. However, if you are aiming for maximum efficiency, a well-designed strategy can help you improve your reading speed. We already mentioned in the paragraph about preview that this approach will help you determine the parts of the text that you should focus on, and which you can skip altogether.

What exactly should the reading plan look like? This question is quite individual, but it's worth starting by defining your goals. What knowledge do you want to have after reading the material? You can even write a few questions that you want to know the answers to at the end of the reading. It is also worth considering the goals pursued by the author of the text. They can be much more extensive than yours. Therefore, if you concentrate only on parts of the material that are interesting and relevant to you, skipping the rest, then you will save time for reading other useful texts.

Based on this, a parallel question arises: is such reading effective? Is it possible to read quickly and at the same time assimilate the material as much as possible, keeping it in memory for many years?

In this article, "Shaleniy Ravlik" will tell you what opportunities open up before us when we read quickly and correctly!

What is speed reading?

Research shows that average speed reading in Russian is 201 words per minute, with an average learning rate of 52. Speed reading means the ability to read 3-4 times faster than average speed.

Speed reading is a complex of techniques and methods allowing to increase the speed of the material being read with maximum memorability by 3-4 times. Thanks to speed reading, concentration of attention increases, memory and understanding of the perceived information develops. "

Speed reading from the point of view of science

V last years speed reading is gaining in popularity. From the point of view of science, there are different opinions: scientists discuss and pay a lot of attention to the study of this issue.

Some scientists admit that the results of numerous studies on speed reading courses are slightly exaggerated. Research on cognitive psychologists conducted in the United States under the supervision of Keith Reiner- an authoritative scientist in the field of visual perception and reading - sow doubts: "It is unlikely that readers will be able to triple their reading speed and at the same time maintain their usual level of assimilation."

However, there are people with phenomenal reading speed, which the whole world has heard about. Anna Jones, winner of six World Speed Reading Championships, read last book Harry Potter in a London bookstore in less than 50 minutes.

In one of his scientific works, linguist, doctor of psychological and philological sciences Alexey Alekseevich Leontiev, indicates that the main task of fast reading is not so much speed as the optimality and effectiveness of the strategy of semantic perception of the text.

Elizabeth Schotte- a psychologist at the University of California (San Diego) puts it like this:

Speed reading is a very attractive skill, and every year there are more and more people who want to help other people develop it. Many claims about speed reading are untrue when we consider everything we know about the reading engine. Over the years and even centuries of research on this process, a lot has become known. Scientists need to communicate this to the general public

In turn, Anna Jones says in an interview with The Guardian: “My reading speed is 800-1500 words per minute, but I cannot say that it is easy. With twenty years of experience in speed reading, I regularly train at the level of a professional athlete. " If you compare these numbers with the average - from 200 to 400 words per minute - the argument is more than sufficient.

What does an adult gain thanks to speed reading?

Sound and visual information the human brain assimilates rather quickly, while the assimilation of textual information depends on the speed of reading. If you read poorly at school and are convinced that this is for life, speed reading techniques can debunk such myths. It takes a lot of effort to develop this skill. Before moving on to tips and exercises, we will focus on the positive aspects of speed reading.

  1. development of memory and thinking (at any age);
  2. improving the educational process;
  3. saving time in everyday life;
  4. the ability to move forward and develop;
  5. good concentration and reaction;
  6. productivity in different types work.

The benefits of speed reading for children

The process of teaching children with the help of speed reading turns into exciting game in pursuit of treasure, that is, knowledge. The child forever forgets how to "memorize" homework, and in fear of waiting for your answer. Methods and techniques of speed reading from an early age teach a child to learn correctly. With the help of fast reading algorithms, children absorb information in one gulp with great interest. This opens up new horizons for our children:

  • the child looks at the world positively;
  • happy to sit down for homework;
  • remembers the main information much faster;
  • effectively reads difficult-to-read texts;
  • every day strives for development and improvement;
  • increases self-esteem and self-confidence;
  • develops sports interest in their own results;
  • acquires erudition and creativity;
  • looks outside the box at life situations;
  • perceives facts through critical thinking.

How fast you read: test to check your reading speed

Testing your own reading speed is pretty easy. To do this, you need an unfamiliar text and a stopwatch. Set a timer for 1 minute. Start reading aloud. As soon as the time runs out, we do “Stop” and count the number of words read. It is important that the material is appropriate for the age category. If you're testing a child's reading speed, pick an easy one. artistic text: a fairy tale or a description of nature. After each text, questions must be followed for verification.

The norm of the number of words read for children primary school becomes 60 - 100 words per minute; for an adult - 160-225 words.

If we talk about adults, we can take any text: from scientific literature to periodicals. With children, the situation is different: almost every age (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ... grade) has its own standard of reading technique and a certain level vocabulary.

We offer a test text for children in grades 4-5:

Elena Alexandrovna Blaginina

Wonderful watch

That was a long time ago. Have high mountain, on the edge of a poor village, lived a widow. Her name was Martha.

Martha didn't like people. Even the children annoyed her with screaming and running. Marta loved only her little goat Snow White and her cheerful goat.

Martha was sitting on the porch one evening knitting a stocking. Suddenly she heard voices:

- The loss of livestock has begun, Elsa! Have you heard?

- How not to hear! Terrible for our goats, Louise!

It was the peasant women who were talking. They were returning with empty jugs from the city. Martha looked after them, and her heart sank in anticipation of trouble.

Suddenly the latch at the gate rang. Martha turned and saw a neat old man. The old man smiled affably and said:

- Hello, Frau Marta. What a nice house you have - give it or take it - sugar on a green plate. Only it's too quiet here - even if the bird sang, even if the clock was ticking ...

Hearing about the watch, Martha remembered that she had a wonderful antique watch. Only they stopped long ago.

- Aren't you a watchmaker? Martha asked.

- A real watchmaker! - the old man bowed.

Martha invited the old man into the house. She took a watch out of the chest and showed it to the master.

The next day, the clock was already ticking merrily on the white wall of Martin's room. The watchmaker did not take money for the repair, and Marta thanked him with delicious coffee. From that day on, the gray-haired guest often appeared in the old widow's house.

Meanwhile, the cattle disease was growing, and everyone in the village was very worried about their goats.

One evening Aunt Martha went into the woods to fetch some brushwood. She quickly picked up a large bundle and turned onto the familiar path - home. But the path suddenly disappeared. To the right, Martha saw a tree that had been knocked down by a thunderstorm, to the left, a large round stone. There was no stone or wood here before. Suddenly, a faint puff of smoke, and Marta went in the direction from which the smoke was coming. Soon she saw a fire, near which a watchmaker was sitting, stirring a mushroom stew.

good evening, Frau Marta! - said the watchmaker. - Have dinner with me

- Thank you, - said Martha, - I can't - I'm in a hurry to get home before dark.

Then the watchmaker invited her to his hut. Aunt Martha, bending over strongly, opened the low door and found herself in a small, softly lit room. In one corner she saw a heap of dry leaves, in another - a hearth with extinct ash. In the middle there was a large stump, and around it were smaller specks. On gray stone wall a huge clock hung. On the dial, instead of numbers, houses flaunted. With surprise, Marta recognized her native village in these houses. Here is her hut. The black hand of the clock is pointed directly at it.

Games and exercises to increase reading speed

Scientists have been researching the problem of reading speed for years. During this time, many programs, techniques and techniques have been developed. The training center "Shaleniy Ravlik" has a set of games and exercises that develop reading speed, increase concentration and improve memorization by several times. These are addicting puzzles for your brain!

The productivity of training largely depends on the game moment. We have selected the most entertaining games and tasks for your development!

There are several ways to prepare the brain to process information. Of course, there are many factors that affect reading performance: environment, degree of external noise, room lighting, level of interest in literature, the physical state etc. Each person has their own individual idea of a comfortable reading environment. We've put together some helpful tips on how to improve your reading speed yourself.

1. Exercise.

It couldn't be easier. To reboot and tone the body, do a few squats. You just need to get up from your chair, activate blood circulation, sit down at the table, straighten your shoulders and start work. This will focus your attention and strain your consciousness.

2. Perform a visual warm-up before reading.

Here is an image. Take a close look at the photo. Close your eyes. What do you remember? Describe the image. Open your eyes and compare the inside with the outside.

This formula should be applied in reading: do not waste attention on the whole book, choose meaningful details - read, thought, re-read, use.

3. Learn to keep the rhythm.

Difficult exercise at first, but with regular training, the results are amazing! Read under the metronome. Set yourself a slow pace and concentrate your attention: with each beat of the metronome, you should focus on the beginning, middle and end of the line. Keep the beat. It is important to tune the metronome so that the material is easy to read.

Tongue twisters are a good assistant in terms of rhythm. You need to pronounce the tongue twister aloud, while moving your eyes along the line. Exercises like these have a positive effect on the development of reading speed!

Example of tongue twisters:

  1. Senya and Sanya have catfish with a mustache in the entryway.
  2. Osip is hoarse, Arkhip Osip.
  3. The Waxwing Pipes.
  4. On a black night, a black cat jumped into a black chimney.
  5. And the tree has pins.

4. Choose text by the teeth.

A lot depends on the vocabulary. If a book's glossary has a large percentage of words that you do not understand, their quantity will not translate into quality. Review the text before reading.

5. Stop pronouncing words.

Mental recitation is a childish habit. You need to strive to read faster than your mouth can move. Say the vowels "A-E-I-O" out loud or count to 4 as you read it. The exercise will teach you to read with your eyes, not your mouth, and will thoroughly invigorate your brain.

6. Use peripheral vision.

Our brain can comprehend several words at the same time. Do not get hung up on each letter, you are able to read phrases at once, and not one word at a time.

To develop peripheral vision, draw two parallel lines with a pencil on the page of the book, 8 cm apart. When reading the text, try not to move your eyes beyond the aisles of the lines. Don't break boundaries.

7. Don't go back to what you read.

Often, without realizing it, we return to the words we have already read or find our eyes on the previous line. In order not to distract attention, follow the text with your finger or a bookmark. Concentrate so as not to return to the words you read.
