Properties of antistatic linoleum to ensure safety. TTK. Laying antistatic and conductive coatings using Forbo materials (Forbo) Antistatic linoleum what

Antistatic linoleum is a type that helps combat the buildup of static electricity. Any linoleum is made of substances that do not conduct electricity well; when walking on it, electrical charges arise. They are small and do not pose a danger to humans, but can interfere with the operation of computers, high-precision equipment, and other electronics, and lead to the ignition of flammable and explosive substances. In addition, static electricity attracts dust and other contaminants, which is unacceptable in clean rooms and when working with high-precision equipment.

Therefore, where it is important to protect devices and people from static electricity, it is necessary to use just such a coating, for example, Tarkett antistatic linoleum. On Russian market antistatic linoleum is presented by several companies:

  • "Tarkett"
  • "ASN"
  • "Forbo"
  • "Mipolam"
  • "LinoFatra"
  • "Armstrong".

In this article we will talk about antistatic linoleum “Tarkett”.

What is it and where is it used

Antistatic linoleum is a PVC-based flooring interspersed with carbon threads that dissipate or remove static charges. Tarkett antistatic coating is available in the same colors as regular linoleum from this company.

This flooring is used in:

  • computer classes,
  • laboratories,
  • control rooms,
  • server,
  • PBX premises,
  • physiotherapy rooms,
  • operating rooms,
  • MRI rooms,
  • x-ray rooms,
  • premises where flammable and explosive substances are stored and used.

The properties of antistatic coatings are regulated by GOST and standards EN 1081 and EN 1815, BS, ASTM.

Varieties

Linoleum of this type can be

  • antistatic (ASF)— on such a floor a minimum of static charges are formed due to friction, for example, when people walk on it,
  • current dissipative (DIF, electrical dissipative, current dissipative)— such a floor must ensure charge dissipation,
  • conductive (ECF, conductive, electrically conductive)- Should quickly discharge charge if there is a ground connection or connection to a point with a lower potential.

These three varieties differ in technical characteristics, the main of which is volumetric electrical resistance:

  • for antistatic - the potential difference that occurs between a person walking on the floor and the coating itself is regulated; it must be at least 2 kV,
  • for a current dissipator - up to 10 9 ohms,
  • for conductive - up to 10 6 Ohms.

The coating is also characterized by specific electrical resistance, which measures in Ohm/m.

Tarkett linoleum is available in three types:

  • Tarkett Acczent Mineral AS- antistatic,
  • "Tarkett IQ TORO SC" - conductive
  • "Tarkett IQ GRANIT SD" - current dissipative.

Such flooring can be commercial or semi-commercial. Commercial is more wear-resistant. Tarkett linoleum has wear resistance classes 32-34. It is difficult to ignite (fire safety class B1), has high hygienic characteristics, making it suitable for use in medical institutions and clean rooms.

"Tarkett Acczent Mineral AS" is an antistatic linoleum, the design of which is based on the "Acczent Pro" collection. Used in areas where protection of electronics is required. The volumetric electrical resistance of this variety is from 10 6 to 10 9 Ohms.

Conductive linoleum "Tarkett IQ TORO SC" has a conductive polyurethane coating. It can be laid in server rooms, laboratories with high-precision equipment, and medical offices. The volumetric electrical resistance of the material complies with the EN 1081 standard and is 5 * 10 4 - 10 6 Ohm. Produced in 14 color options.

"Tarkett IQ GRANIT SD" is a current-dissipating coating that is used in clean rooms and in electronics industry enterprises.

Premises requirements

In the room where antistatic linoleum will be laid, the temperature should be at least +18 degrees and the humidity should be 30-60%. Before laying, linoleum is straightened; it must not be bent or rolled up. It must lie indoors for some time to reach room temperature.

The base must be dry, clean and level. Defects are eliminated by applying a layer of putty. The substrate should be free of traces of paint, asphalt, oil, ink and other contaminants that could reduce the adhesion of the coating to the base. In addition, such substances can change the color and other characteristics of linoleum. Wooden backing should have a humidity of no more than 8%. If the base has a high absorption capacity, then it must be coated with a primer and dried well.

The maximum temperature at which this coating can be used is 27 C, so it is important to check that the room temperature does not exceed this mark. This is especially important in rooms located above boiler rooms and boiler rooms. Antistatic linoleum is not intended for use in high humidity conditions.

Laying

The first stage is marking the surface. To do this, measure the room and calculate how many sheets are needed. Lines are drawn on the sheets along which the linoleum will be cut. Cutting can be done with a knife or scissors. It is better to draw lines with a simple pencil, as pens or felt-tip pens may change the color of the coating.

To install antistatic linoleum, conductive adhesive and copper tape are required. The latter performs the function of grounding. A mesh of copper tape is laid on the base and glued special glue, does not contain neoprene.

Important! Each copper strip is glued to a freshly applied layer of glue. The glue must be applied evenly to form an identical conductive layer over the entire area.

Strips of copper tape are laid parallel to the joints of the linoleum. It is important that all parts of the ground are connected to each other.

After laying the grounding, the linoleum sheet is glued. To do this, glue is applied to the base and copper tapes, a coating is placed on top and pressed. Each strip is ironed with a smooth roller weighing at least 65 kg. The joints of the canvases are welded using a cord for welding linoleum. Before welding, the edges of the sheets are beveled to 2/3 of the thickness.

If you need to cut holes in the linoleum for pipes or other elements, do this carefully so as not to damage the copper mesh. Copper mesh is also needed to measure the resistivity of the floor.

Care

During cleaning, antistatic linoleum is first swept, removing debris and large particles, then washed. When washing such a floor, you need to be careful not to damage the polyurethane coating. Do not use washing powders to clean the floor; it is best to use special detergents or clean water.

Antistatic coatings are a means of protection that cannot be avoided in rooms with high-precision equipment exposed to static electricity. Depending on the purpose, they may have different resistance. Such coatings are subject to high requirements for strength, fire safety, and hygienic indicators.

Among the variety of floor coverings presented on the construction market, antistatic linoleum stands out for its characteristics. The production technology includes inclusions of carbon or carbon threads in its composition. Thanks to this process, it has the property of dissipating static electricity. This type The coating is a type of commercial linoleum.

Types of antistatic coating

This type of linoleum is classified as antistatic based on conductivity:

  1. Insulating coating with a resistance of 109 ohms or more: walking on it should not cause an electrical charge higher than 2 kW.
  2. Current-dissipating type of linoleum - resistance is 106-108 Ohms, used in X-ray rooms.
  3. The conductive coating has a resistance of 104-106 Ohms.

Specifications

There are certain requirements for flooring. Antistatic linoleum must be wear-resistant and durable. In addition, it must be smooth and of the same thickness. When laying it, the surface should be carefully leveled so that the electrical charge is evenly distributed. In order to ensure the electrical safety of premises, antistatic linoleum is periodically tested for uniform absorption of electrical voltage. They produce flooring in rolls or large tiles. color scheme. Service life - more than 15 years.

Commercial antistatic has high technical characteristics. It has the highest strength and a special protective layer, which is 0.7 mm and higher. The thickness of the canvas is 4.5 mm. Antistatic linoleum, the price of which per square meter is 11.90 euros, has the most good feedback consumers.

Application area

Antistatic linoleum is laid in places where high-frequency electronic equipment operates:

  • in pharmaceuticals, ;
  • in telecommunications and computing centers,
  • in research laboratories;
  • in medical institutions;
  • at enterprises where flammable and explosive substances are used;
  • in server rooms.

Reviews about the benefits of antistatic linoleum

According to consumer reviews, the main advantage of linoleum with antistatic properties is the ability to dissipate an electrical charge over the surface when used in rooms where high-precision equipment operates. Eliminates the accumulation of static voltage on the human body, minimizes malfunctions in electronic equipment, and also reduces the dust content of the antistatic coating and complies with sanitary standards. Users note that others do not possess such qualities.

This coating is highly durable and reliable. According to buyers, antistatic linoleum can be laid in any room. Humidity does not affect the conductivity of an electric charge. Antistatic linoleum, the price of which is higher than usual, has an average cost of 290 rubles per square meter.

Installation requirements

There are special requirements for laying this flooring. The thickness of the product and the surface of the base must be of high quality, perfectly smooth, as this affects the uniform distribution of the electrical charge. When preparing the base, correct grounding should be ensured; its correctness is guaranteed by a special copper tape for antistatic linoleum.

The quality of the glue and its preparation method are of no small importance. It is necessary to use the adhesive immediately after dilution, since its quality deteriorates if not used for some time. Before laying, linoleum is first laid out on the surface for leveling and adaptation for at least 24 hours. To avoid problems later, when unfolding, check to see if there are any kinks or folds on the cover. The temperature in the linoleum installation room should be 18 degrees, and the humidity should be about 60%.

How to lay linoleum

Laying antistatic linoleum differs from laying conventional flooring. There is no particular difference in laying roll and tile materials. Antistatic linoleum does not have a specific pattern, so material consumption will be minimal and depends on the area of the room. This floor covering must not be bent or allowed to form wrinkles.

Laying antistatic linoleum is carried out by gluing it to the base with a special glue that has high conductivity. The surface of the base must be smooth, clean, durable, and free from defects. The linoleum installation technology involves starting to lay the tile material from the middle of the room, and the roll covering is laid in such a way that the strips lie parallel to the sun's rays. The base surface is treated with a conductive primer, grounding is carried out by laying copper tape. To ensure better contact between the linoleum and the floor, the entire surface of the material should be coated with glue.

Copper tape is placed on the adhesive parallel to the strip joints 20 centimeters from them. Strips are placed across the flooring, connecting them with tapes, and then with When laying tile material, they are placed under each row. The transverse stripes are connected by another with a step distance of about 10 meters. Linoleum should fit snugly to the base. Its smoothing is carried out with a special roller.

Important:

The canvas must be cut according to the size of the room. To do this, measure its length and width, taking into account the protrusions.

It is impossible to imagine a modern clinic without a large amount of high-precision electronic diagnostic, treatment and preventive equipment, without computers and other equipment. The stability of any electronic component directly depends on the level of electrical conductivity of the floor coverings in the room. When it comes to patient health and safety, compromise is impossible.

What is the difference between conductive linoleum and antistatic linoleum?

Clients often contact our company with a desire to buy antistatic linoleum. But when you start to understand, it turns out that they do not need an antistatic agent, but conductive or current-dissipating linoleum. What's the difference? Firstly, there is a difference in resistance - current-conducting linoleum has a resistance of 1x104-1x106 Ohms inclusive, current-dissipating linoleum has a resistance of 1x106-1x108 Ohms, antistatic linoleum - 1x109 Ohms. Secondly, conductive linoleum and current-dissipative linoleum discharge the charge along the thickness into the ground, and in antistatic linoleum the static charge simply spreads over the surface.

Antistatic linoleum is used mainly in large offices and call centers; it cannot be used in medicine, despite the fact that there are still designers who write antistatic linoleum in their projects (still according to the Soviet standard) instead of conductive.

An electrostatic charge constantly generated on the floor surface can cause irreparable damage to equipment and cause a lot of inconvenience to staff and patients. The reduced electrical resistance of the floor covering allows you to instantly remove static charge, ensuring safety and comfort in the room. The advanced technologies of the DLW Armstrong concern guarantee the material lifelong conductive properties - due to the introduction of graphite inserts into the structure of the material.

How to save on conductive linoleum?

In 2012, the Armstrong company released a new product in conductive linoleum, Royal Conductive LG2 conductive linoleum, which has a graphite layer as a substrate and can be glued to regular PVC linoleum glue. If other conductive linoleums are glued with conductive glue and require the mandatory use of copper tape, then for Armstrong Royal Conductive linoleum, copper tape is needed only as a contour around the perimeter and expensive conductive glue is not needed at all; ordinary glue for PVC linoleum, which is half the price, is sufficient.

Therefore, by overpaying a little for the Armstrong Royal Conductive conductive linoleum itself, you save on the cost of glue (regular glue is half the price of conductive glue), on copper tape (much less of it is needed) and on the cost of work (no need to glue copper tape), in the end you save from 10 to 20% of the cost.

Conductive linoleum in tiles

Conductive linoleum is also available in tiles; this is more convenient for small rooms - there are fewer scraps and you don’t need to buy multiple rolls (45.8 m2).

But the installation work is more complicated and therefore more expensive, and also if indoors high humidity or when they wash and spill a lot of water, then soon the conductive pvc tiles it will peel off and its corners will bend, since it is glued with water-dispersed adhesives, which are destroyed by water.

Technical characteristics of conductive linoleum
Armstrong Royal Conductive

  • homogeneous coating 180 cm wide, 2.2 mm thick.
  • per roll 45.8 m2 (tiles 60.8x60.8 cm)
  • vertical resistance: less than 1x106 Ohm
  • antistatic properties less than 0.1 kV
  • usage class 34/43
  • slip coefficient R9
  • abrasion coefficient P

Armstrong Royal Conductive conductive linoleum is recommended for use in operating rooms, intensive care and resuscitation rooms, “clean” rooms, as part of a raised floor system, server rooms, MRI rooms, radiography and functional diagnostics.

Antistatic linoleum flooring requires good preparation of the base. The surface must be smooth, clean, without cracks or potholes. Any dirt such as oil stains must be removed.

The humidity in the room where the work will be carried out should not be too high. If necessary, you need to waterproof the floor on which antistatic linoleum will be laid. Working temperature the base should not exceed 27 degrees Celsius, as this may lead to a change in the color and shade of the current-dissipating coating.

In this article we will tell you how to properly lay antistatic or current dissipative linoleum so that it performs its functions flawlessly throughout its entire service life.

Preparation before laying antistatic linoleum

After the material is delivered to the work site, it must be kept at a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius or higher for at least 24 hours. It is better to increase this time to two days. This rule is valid if the linoleum was transported to the site when negative temperature air.

Then you need to open the package and spread the linoleum on a clean and level floor so that it rests for at least two days. The air temperature must be at least 15 degrees Celsius. Antistatic linoleum can be laid at humidity levels ranging from 30% to 70%.

Important: When laying, do not allow the linoleum surface to rub against the base of the floor.

When laying antistatic linoleum, you need to correctly calculate the location of the joining seams; it is advisable to avoid areas of intense pedestrian traffic.

Copper strip laying: For some antistatic coatings, for example Tarkett Toro SC and Tarkett Acczent Mineral AS, additional copper tape is required ( copper wire) to remove static voltage to the grounding terminal points, for example, Forbo copper wire or HOMAFIX 404 copper tape. The tape is laid under each cut linoleum sheet, possibly along the entire perimeter, the entire tape is interconnected. The copper tape has a layer of adhesive, i.e. is self-adhesive. The tape is glued to the base (to the floor) before applying the main linoleum glue. The ends of the tape are soldered to the grounding outputs. Example of laying copper tape:

Laying current dissipative and antistatic linoleum

The placement of linoleum sheets depends on the type of welding, which can be:

During cold welding, antistatic linoleum is laid overlapping, and during hot welding, it is laid end-to-end so that there is no gap left. If necessary, you need to combine the drawing.

Along the perimeter, use a pencil to mark the boundary for applying glue. After this, the canvas is wrapped and glue is applied to the base, evenly distributing it over the surface. To do this, use a spatula with medium-sized teeth.

Important: For antistatic linoleum, special conductive adhesives are used, for example: Khomakol 168 EL Prof Glue or Forbo Erfurt 523 Glue.

Important: Make sure that the glue does not fall beyond the border that you outlined with a pencil.

After waiting a little for the glue to take the required state, you need to press the linoleum firmly onto the surface of the base using rollers.

This procedure is performed with all canvases throughout the entire area of the room.

There are different types of antistatic linoleum, but their installation is practically the same.

After gluing, you need to wait a day (the period depends on the properties of the used adhesive composition). During this period, you should not place furniture or heavy objects on the linoleum.

The antistatic linoleum flooring is completed by welding the seams.

Hot welding technology

Hot welding is the most preferable option if you need a reliable connection of linoleum parts. To do this, use a welding gun and a cord, the composition of which is identical to the floor covering.

Linoleum joints are pre-prepared. To do this, cut a groove using a special tool. Its depth is determined by the type of antistatic linoleum used. This procedure is carried out no earlier than one day after laying the coating.

Before you start welding the seam, you need to try it on the remaining linoleum to choose the most suitable temperature. After hot welding is completed, a cord remains, which is carefully cut off with a construction knife.

Making grooves

It is important to choose the right cutter, which can be semicircular or triangular. The first is considered universal, as it can be used when laying all types of antistatic linoleum.

The seam should be slightly more than 3 millimeters wide. The depth depends on the type of current-dissipating linoleum.

Features of hot welding

The quality of welding depends on the position of the machine. It is important that the heated air flows under right angle simultaneously on both the cord and the groove.

Copper tape for laying antistatic linoleum in Moscow

Do not let hot air flow onto the main surface of the linoleum.

After finishing welding, you need to cut the cord. After it has cooled, it is trimmed again so that the surface of the antistatic linoleum is perfectly flat.

Now you know how to properly lay antistatic or current dissipative linoleum. We talked about connecting joints using hot welding, since this method is considered the most reliable. Nevertheless cold welding is also very popular, the technique is no different from the flooring of any commercial linoleum.

Laying antistatic linoleum flooring may seem like a simple procedure, but it is not. If we are talking about premises such as scientific and medical laboratories, where equipment sensitive to static voltage is located, then it is impossible to do without the help of high-class specialists.

What did you want to know about linoleum?

LINOLEUM

Linoleum is one of the most used floor coverings among Russian consumers.

An example of the use of linoleum in design

Originally linoleum (from the Latin "linum oleum" - linseed oil) was made only from natural natural materials- linseed oil, natural resin, colored pigments, wood or cork flour, jute fabric and other components. Now in Russia and a number of other countries, linoleum is understood not only as coverings made from natural materials, but also everything types of PVC. The popularity of modern linoleum is explained by the fact that it is a fairly high-quality and inexpensive material.

Linoleum is primarily characterized by the following qualities:

1) roll characteristics:

  • width (from 1.5 to 4 m and even up to 5 m - but quite rarely and only on special order)
  • length 12-27 m, industrial roll length can reach 100 m

2) characteristics of linoleum:

  • thickness of linoleum (from 1.35 to 4 mm), the thinnest linoleum is 0.7 mm (practically not found),
  • thickness of the upper protective layer (from 0.12 to 0.6 mm). Thermal and noise insulation depends on the thickness of linoleum; the thicker it is, the higher the quality. Minimum thickness linoleum - 0.7 mm).
  • life time.

3) indicators of physical and mechanical properties:

  • thermal insulation,
  • noise absorption (sound insulation),
  • wear resistance,
  • antistatic qualities (if linoleum is used in special rooms),
  • absolute residual deformation,
  • change in linear dimensions, %,
  • specific surface electrical resistance, Ohm,
  • bond strength between the front protective layer of film and the next layer, N/cm.

Based on its composition, linoleum is divided into homogeneous and heterogeneous.

Homogeneous linoleum is a coating without a base and is homogeneous thin material. Due to the homogeneity of its structure on homogeneous linoleum The abrasions of the pattern are practically invisible, which makes it possible to use it in places with high traffic.

Heterogeneous linoleum consists of several layers. This category of linoleum is most represented on the Structure linoleum market. This type of linoleum is more expensive than homogeneous one.

Linoleum consists of several layers:

Depending on the type of base, there are several types of linoleum:

  • basic (most often foamed PVC),
  • baseless.

Polyester, felt, jute, and PVC can be used as the base of linoleum. Typically the base is made of foamed polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which can also be thin (dense). This makes it possible to produce linoleum of various thicknesses. The foam base is more moisture resistant than non-woven. The service life of foam-based linoleum is about 10 years.

Baseless linoleum is a homogeneous PVC material, also called homogeneous. This is a fairly thin linoleum (1.2-1.6 mm), the pattern is located throughout the entire thickness. The service life is 5-7 years; to extend it, special protective layers can be applied to linoleum.

IN Lately linoleum on a heat and sound insulating base (TSI) has become popular. TZI is an excellent electrical, heat and sound insulating material and meets all sanitary standards, thanks to this it has found wide application in the manufacture of linoleum.

PVC linoleum on a heat and sound insulating base is regulated by GOST 18108-80 http://www.vashdom.ru/gost/18108-80 from 1982-01-01.

Woven and non-woven bases (jute, felt) are also used; such linoleum must correspond technical specifications GOST 7251-77 http://www.yourdom.ru from 1978-01-01.

The presence of domestic manufacturers on the market producing high-quality linoleum using European technologies makes it an affordable floor covering for most segments of the population.

2. Excellent technical properties(high levels of moisture and wear resistance, sound and heat insulation), which makes it a fairly practical coating.

3. There are special types of linoleum (antistatic, acoustic, antibacterial, conductive, anti-slip), which are intended for public and industrial premises.

4. Easy preparation gender

Linoleum should be laid on a dry surface without protrusions or cracks. To do this, it is recommended to cover the wooden floor with plywood and treat the concrete floor with a leveling compound.

5. Simple installation technology

Linoleum can be laid using the free-laying method or glued with special glue. Partial or complete gluing is used. Continuous is used when laying linoleum is carried out in rooms with a high load (large flow of visitors, the need to constantly move furniture), as well as with an area of more than 20 square meters. m. In other cases, partial gluing is the most optimal. Linoleum glue is produced by both domestic and foreign manufacturers in containers (cans, buckets, flasks) from 1 to 15 kg, the average cost of Russian-made glue is 26-60 rubles. for 1 kg, imported - 110-155 rubles. for 1 kg. Glue consumption per 1 sq. m is 0.2-0.6 kg.

6. Long term operation (warranty 5-10 years), which when proper care reaches 25-30 years.

Comparison of floor coverings by service life:

7. Easy to use and clean (antibacterial treatment is possible).

8. Constantly updated art collections allow you to select the necessary color accents under different interior. A wide variety of linoleum colors are available, from classic (traditional) to abstract.

Among the traditional patterns, the most popular in Russia are those for natural parquet and boards (of various types and types of installation), as well as ceramics. In addition, colors for mosaic, chips, marble, granite, malachite and other types of stone are available. The collections are updated periodically, approximately once a year by one third.

Laying antistatic linoleum will require careful work

The width of the produced linoleum is 2m, 2.5m, 3m, 3.5m, 4m. A wide range of different widths of linoleum makes it possible to choose a size that will allow you to most optimally lay the covering with fewer seams.

From earlier times, there remains a prejudice that the use of linoleum in residential premises can be hazardous to health. Of course, relatively natural coating no questions arise. But many people today treat PVC with caution. Modern high-quality linoleum is manufactured using technologies that ensure its environmental safety. This is guaranteed by the availability of appropriate certificates.

Types of linoleum

In addition, two main groups can be distinguished depending on the materials of manufacture: natural (which used to be called linoleum) and PVC coatings.

Natural linoleum is made only from natural materials - linseed oil, wood flour, natural resins, limestone, natural color pigments, usually on a jute basis. Due to its composition, such linoleum has antibacterial properties; in addition, it is wear-resistant, antistatic, fire-resistant, resistant to grease stains, and can be used for heated floors. The leader in the production of this type of linoleum is the Austrian company "Forbo", which controls 60% of the world market. Natural linoleum is presented in two collections - Marmoleum and Artoleum. The cost of natural linoleum is much higher than PVC coatings and amounts to 15-20 euros per 1 sq. m. m.

Natural linoleum also manufactured by Sommer and DLW.

Russian manufacturers of natural linoleum are not represented on the Internet.

PVC coatings, in turn, are divided into the following types:

  • household,
  • semi-commercial,
  • commercial.

Household linoleum characterized by a thickness of 1.5-3 mm and a wear layer of 0.15-0.35 mm (which may be absent). Roll width is 1.5-4 m. The main characteristics are as follows:

  • cost: 2.5-10 euros per 1 sq. m
  • weight: ~ 1.25-2.25 kg/sq. m
  • residual deformation: no more than 0.2 mm
  • flexibility: there should be no cracks when wrapping around a rod with a diameter of 45 mm
  • thermal conductivity: 0.018-0.035 W/m*K
  • water absorption: no more than 1-1.5%
  • sound absorption: 13-18 dB

Commercial linoleum

Semi commercial linoleum much stronger than household ones, but inferior in its characteristics to commercial ones. It is produced in rolls with a width of 2 to 4 m. This type of linoleum is provided with a warranty period of 7-20 years, depending on the manufacturer. Used in office premises and in public places with low load and low traffic. Main characteristics:

  • cost: 5.5-15 euros per 1 sq. m
  • protective layer - 0.5-0.6 mm.
  • weight: ~1.6-2 kg/sq. m
  • residual deformation: no more than 0.10 mm
  • sound absorption: 12-16 dB

Commercial linoleum is a coating increased wear resistance. Unlike other types, it is painted over the entire thickness and has a thicker protective layer. Typically used in public buildings, where there is a large flow of people and the floor covering must have a sufficient level of wear resistance. It can also be used in residential buildings, however, due to the high price (10-40 euros per 1 sq. m), its use in residential buildings is very limited, where less wear-resistant and inexpensive linoleum can be used. The main characteristics are as follows:

  • cost: 10-40 euros
  • protective layer 0.7 mm
  • weight: ~2.8 kg/sq.m
  • residual deformation: no more than 0.02-0.10 mm
  • flexibility: there should be no cracks when wrapping around a rod with a diameter of 10-40 mm
  • sound absorption: 6-10 dB.

The service life of this type of coating ranges from 10 to 25 years.

Also included in the category of commercial linoleum are special coatings where individual characteristics are improved. For example, there are subtypes - acoustic (with improved sound insulation qualities, sound absorption up to 19 dB), anti-slip (designed mainly for wet rooms), antistatic (allows for the absence of static voltage, the accumulated charge of the coating is no more than 2 kV), etc.

The linoleum market is developing rapidly. Moreover, if previously high-quality linoleum was mainly represented Western companies, then now Russian manufacturers successfully compete with them. Modern linoleum is a wear-resistant material with high rates of heat and sound insulation, which allows it to be used in premises of various classes.

Linoleum care
When cleaning linoleum floors, it is advisable to use a special polyvinyl cleaning emulsion. But if it is not at hand, it is enough to sweep and wipe the surface with a damp cloth. At the same time, try not to have too much water. Aggressive chemicals, gasoline and bleaches can turn the coating yellow; metal floats will irreparably damage it, so they should not be used. To remove stains would be better suited cloth soaked in alcohol, kerosene or neutral detergent. The cleaned area is washed with water. Contaminants must be removed as early as possible so that they do not have time to be absorbed into the surface. To make the coating shiny and extend its service life, it is necessary to wipe the material with a protective glossy emulsion or polymer spray from time to time. This is especially important for floors in frequently used rooms: they will wear out more slowly and lose color intensity. Where permanent protection against microbes is required, ...

What are special elements for tiles?
Apparently, something is changing in the world around us. Increasingly recently, salespeople in construction stores or repair foremen, according to their own reviews, hear the phrase “make it beautiful for me,” although several years ago the insistent sound was “make it cheaper for me.” Why? This is a question for a separate study. Maybe people have more money? Or is our sense of beauty rapidly developing? Or maybe we have begun to love ourselves more, and we just don’t raise our hand to save on ourselves, our beloved? And not only on ourselves, but also on what surrounds us every day. But no matter how beautiful and expensive the surroundings are, if you miss a little detail, the whole picture will fall apart. After all, beauty is in the details. As they say, “Life is a chain, and the little things in it are the links. You can’t help but attach importance to a link.” Therefore, when starting to transform the world within a single apartment or office, do not forget about the details. Antistatic linoleum (ESD linoleum) is laid to avoid the accumulation of ESD (Electro Static Discharge) electrostatic discharges on the surface.

Static electricity accumulated on the surface of the coating not only contributes to a more intense accumulation of dust and dirt, but, most importantly, can cause the failure of electronic components, assemblies and products sensitive to electrostatic discharges, lead to failures of high-precision equipment installed on the floor and even destroy it is out of order. To avoid all this, the coating must be grounded. Contact with the ground is made using conductive glue, as well as self-adhesive copper tape. Typically, a classic sheathing is made from tape with grounding of the strips running along the fabric to specially routed buses, as shown in the diagram below.

To combat static voltage in work area antistatic linoleum with an electrical resistance of no more than 106 Ohms is used. This type of coating is relevant for rooms saturated various kinds electronic equipment and static-sensitive radioelements and products.

To give linoleum current-dissipating properties, special additives are introduced into its composition (for example, carbon particles or carbon threads, fibers). Then the electric charge that arises at a certain point on the coating will quickly dissipate over the entire surface of the floor and will cease to be dangerous.

For full confidence For operational safety, it is very important that the resistance is the same at all points of the coating, and the resistance value must remain unchanged throughout the entire life of the material. There is a fairly large selection of these products from various manufacturers on the market, for example TOROSTAT 9500 (TOOLS).

Choosing a special coating wisely is not all; it will only perform its tasks if installed correctly and in compliance with international standards(IEC 61340-4-1, IEC 61340-5-1, IEC 61340-5-2).

Laying of antistatic linoleum should take place at a temperature of at least +18°C and a room humidity of 30-60%. First, lay copper tape in the form of a grid and ground it. Before installation, the sheets of covering should be laid out on the floor surface in order to “get used” to room conditions. You should avoid bending the linoleum, folds, because this can cause irreversible consequences. Sheets of linoleum are glued entirely, high-quality glue, maintaining conductivity over time (IEC 61340-4-1). Please note that when laying antistatic linoleum, the adhesive is applied over the copper strips. More details about the consumption of antistatic glue and drying time should be read in the instructions. Late installation with adhesive reduces adhesion strength and negatively affects conductivity, which can lead to unevenness (due to hardened lumps of adhesive). Antistatic linoleum has special taps for connecting to the ground loop. In this case, the charge formed on the floor surface instantly “flows” along the graphite fibers into the coating, enters the layer of conductive adhesive, and then goes along the copper tape into the ground. The time for laying and working with glue varies depending on the type of substrate, its absorbent properties, humidity and air temperature in the room. For more details, see the glue manufacturer's instructions. Antistatic linoleum should be laid in such a way that there are no noticeable differences in color. Contact with the ground is made by copper strips and conductive glue. A strip of copper is laid longitudinally at each transverse joint, approximately 20 cm from the edge. The strips under each sheet of antistatic linoleum are connected to copper strips running across the sheets at both ends of the room, 20 cm from the wall and connected to the grounding system.

Procedure for laying antistatic linoleum

Typically, copper strips are connected to the standard grounding system of a particular building. In areas where electrostatic sensitivity is common, the copper strips are connected to a separate grounding system provided by the end user. Be that as it may, grounding must be carried out in accordance with all norms, standards and regulations building regulations, electrical safety rules, etc.

When laying antistatic linoleum, it is very important to ensure good contact and the absence of air between the glue and the coating. This is not difficult to achieve. The coating is laid on glue, after which it is immediately rolled out with a roller (weighing 50 - 70 kilograms). Antistatic linoleum must be rolled out until full adhesion is achieved, in both directions. When cutting linoleum and creating slots, be extremely careful not to damage the conductive strips laid under the floor covering, ensuring contact of all sections with the grounding system.

The joints of the sheets are hot welded. First, at the joints you need to bevel the edge or create a slot measuring 2/3 of the thickness with a manual or electric groove cutter. It should be remembered that protecting premises from electrostatic charge is a complex task, and special floor coverings are only part of the solution to the problem.

Remember that conductive and static-removing floors are one of the main and essential elements in the construction and operation of industrial areas protected from static electricity (Electrostatic Protected Area). To confirm ESD protective properties of the coating you have chosen, a set of special measurements must be carried out to confirm compliance with the standards.

After measuring the ESD characteristics of the floor covering, you receive:

  • Detailed measurement protocol in accordance with IEC 61340-4-1 and IEC 61340-4-5 standards
  • Measurement results characterizing antistatic floor covering
  • Statement of compliance with IEC 61340-5-1 and IEC 61340-5-2 standards
  • Confidence in the future regarding the chosen floor covering

For modern high-tech companies with certification based on the international standards IEC 61340-5-1 and IEC 61340-5-2, it is much easier, especially at the international level, to find new partners and strengthen relationships with existing partners, ensure customer loyalty, and increase brand capitalization . Such certification can be usefully integrated into your quality management system as one of the truly working mechanisms for controlling the quality of your products. In the absence of an ESD control program, the company is plagued by strange “floating” failures of electronic products, intangible losses in the form of distrust in your products, an outflow of consumers to competitors, failures in planning and a decrease in revenue.

PS: To create an antistatic floor, it is important not to confuse and not use simple cheap commercial “antistatic” linoleum with a resistance of 10 to the 10th power, when walking on which a voltage of up to 2 kV occurs! Remember that all EPA zones are built on the assumption that NO more than 100V potentials will occur within! Conclusion - such commercial linoleum cannot be used to create antistatic zones! To measure the electrical resistance of floor coverings, we recommend using the device: Vermason 222635.

Antistatic and current dissipative linoleum flooring technology

Antistatic linoleum flooring requires good preparation of the base. The surface must be smooth, clean, without cracks or potholes. Any dirt such as oil stains must be removed.

The humidity in the room where the work will be carried out should not be too high. If necessary, you need to waterproof the floor on which antistatic linoleum will be laid. The operating temperature of the base should not exceed 27 degrees Celsius, as this may lead to a change in the color and shade of the current dissipative coating.

This rule is valid if the linoleum was transported to the site at negative air temperatures.

The canvas must be cut according to the size of the room. To do this, measure its length and width, taking into account the protrusions. Be sure to take stock into account.

When laying antistatic linoleum, you need to correctly calculate the location of the joining seams; it is advisable to avoid areas of intense pedestrian traffic.

Copper strip laying: for some antistatic coatings, for example Tarkett Toro SC and Tarkett Acczent Mineral AS, it is necessary to additionally lay copper tape (copper wire) to remove static voltage to the grounding terminals, for example Forbo copper wire or HOMAFIX 404 copper tape. The tape is laid under each cut linoleum sheet, around the entire perimeter, the entire tape is interconnected.

After gluing, you need to wait a day (the period depends on the properties of the adhesive composition used).

It is important that the heated air flows at the correct angle onto both the cord and the groove at the same time. Do not let hot air flow onto the main surface of the linoleum.

After finishing welding, you need to cut the cord.

Antistatic linoleum flooring

After it has cooled, it is trimmed again so that the surface of the antistatic linoleum is perfectly flat.

Now you know how to properly lay antistatic or current dissipative linoleum. We talked about connecting joints using hot welding, since this method is considered the most reliable. Nevertheless, cold welding is also very popular; the technique is no different from any commercial linoleum flooring.

Laying antistatic linoleum flooring may seem like a simple procedure, but it is not. If we are talking about premises such as scientific and medical laboratories, where equipment sensitive to static voltage is located, then it is impossible to do without the help of high-class specialists.

Antistatic linoleum is a polyvinyl chloride floor covering that has antistatic properties that prevent the formation of static charges during friction and contact with the material.

This type of building material is used in residential or industrial premises where excessive electrification occurs. Laying helps reduce the risk of fires or explosions, reduces the amount of dust collected, and removes the negative impact of static on precision instruments.

When purchasing material, you need to check that the composition does not contain heavy components with abrasive particles, but only fiberglass. The antistatic coating has the following technical parameters:

Specifications

  • excellent insulator with high resistance and low conductivity;
  • Possibility of installation in places with any humidity;
  • high strength and uniformity, thanks to a thickness of up to 5 mm;
  • increased wear resistance;
  • good elasticity;
  • excellent heat insulator;
  • high resistance to UV rays.

The last characteristic is important when using the material in industrial buildings. It should also be noted that such linoleum can be laid on a warm floor. Positive characteristics include the fact that it is resistant to oils, fats and resins.

Varieties

All linoleums with antistatic properties are divided into:

  • antistatic
  • current dissipative;
  • conductive.

Varieties

All these types are often mistakenly called by one common name - antistatic flooring. However, these types of material have a significant difference not only in parameters, but also in the manufacturing and installation process.

Thus, the first type can be used in ordinary rooms, while for rooms with high-precision equipment (laboratories, automatic telephone exchanges, etc.) it is better to give preference to the third type. When choosing a coating, you should contact a specialist who will help you choose the right linoleum for a certain type of room.

Antistatic material

The coating has an electrical resistance of at least 10 9 Ohms. When walking on such a floor, the voltage should be no more than 2 kV. Another name is insulating. It should be noted that any commercial linoleum is endowed with antistatic properties. In the absence of increased requirements for flooring material, it can be laid anywhere. This type of coverage is used in call centers and classrooms with computer equipment.

Coverage in a medical facility

Current dissipative

Resistance of this type linoleum is 10 6 -10 8 Ohms. A special composition is obtained by introducing components (carbon or carbon filaments), which give the material current-dissipating properties. When using such material, it is not dangerous to walk on it, since any static charge is dissipated. This type of flooring is used in server rooms and x-ray rooms.

Conductive linoleum

This type of linoleum has a resistance of 10 4 -10 6 Ohms. Special additives give it special strength, as well as the ability to remove electrical charge. Conductive coating is laid in rooms where expensive high-precision equipment is installed.

Technology for laying antistatic linoleum

Before laying antistatic linoleum, you need to have a well-prepared, level base. High demands are placed on the subfloor, because due to the presence of flaws and defects, the flooring can become unusable.

Installation

The installation process itself is identical to flooring plain linoleum. A distinctive feature is only the grounding, which must be connected to the coating.

The roll is left in the room for a while so that it gets used to the temperature conditions where the flooring will be made.

To lay the grounding, copper tape is used, which is laid out in the form of a grid. Next, a special glue is applied, which is applied thin layer onto copper strips and allow time to dry a little.

The entire floor covering is laid on conductive adhesive and rolled with a roller to remove any possible air bubbles.

Laying process

If you need to make a cut during work, then this is done carefully so that the insulating strip underneath remains unharmed.

After completion of the work, it is imperative to check the floor for its ability to absorb electrical charge. The inspection is carried out six months after installation, and if the results do not match the coating, it must be replaced.

Inconsistency technical parameters may be caused by improper installation of the material. Therefore, you should trust the installation of antistatic linoleum only to competent specialists.

Main manufacturers and brands

Finding such coverage in stores will not be difficult. It's really hard to choose quality material, the technical characteristics of which clearly comply with the requirements of GOST. Therefore, give preference to shopping in a store or shopping center, where you can request a quality certificate from the seller.

Antistatic linoleum is increasingly being purchased for apartments and houses where there are many household appliances and equipment that produce a static charge.

When a person comes into contact with electrical appliance sometimes a discharge occurs that is felt by a person. In turn, such a discharge negatively affects the equipment itself and helps attract dust. Therefore, it is linoleum with antistatic properties that will help cope with such problems.

Advantages and disadvantages

Antistatic coating has a sufficient number of advantages. One of the main advantages is its versatility. It can be laid not only in apartments and houses, but also in offices, warehouses, industrial buildings. The absence of harmful chemicals in its composition, along with , gives it high levels of safety and hygiene, which allows it to be used even in bedrooms and kindergartens.

Among the advantages can be noted high moisture resistance. Good thickness The material gives it high heat and sound insulation properties, as well as resistance to stress. In terms of durability, it is not inferior to the operational parameters of tiles or marble, which makes it possible to lay it in rooms with high traffic.

Another advantage is that dust does not accumulate on the surface, it is easy to clean and wash. Resistance to chemicals and exposure to sunlight allows you to maintain a presentable appearance long enough.

Arrangement problem high-quality coating on the floor these days is acute. It must comply with working conditions, the environment around people, ensure reliability and safety. In the room where it is used a large number of electrical appliances, static electricity and other troubles appear. To solve this problem, antistatic linoleum was created, eliminating excess electricity and providing conditions for human life and work.

Antistatic coating on the floor in the room with electrical equipment

Antistatic linoleum: necessity, scope

There is a PVC material that reduces static electricity. It is called antistatic linoleum. This type of coating has found application in rooms where a large number of electrically sensitive equipment is installed:

  • in laboratories;
  • in different computer centers;
  • in ultrasound, MRI and other rooms.

The coating is used to protect against the effects of computers, televisions, and microwave ovens. This kind of linoleum is becoming popular for use in residential premises, where there are a lot of household appliances and devices that are a source of static voltage.

Often there is contact between a person and metal devices, a slight electrical discharge occurs, which the person feels on himself. In addition, this discharge negatively affects the functioning of household appliances, devices, and equipment; Static electricity contributes to the accumulation of dust. Therefore, you should use commercial linoleum that copes with these problems.

Construction of building materials

Antistatic linoleum consists of polyvinyl chloride, which is considered an insulating material. The polymer material has the ability to accumulate electricity. To reduce its level, use a coating with low resistance and grounding elements.

Metal tapes are often used for PVC coating. They (usually copper) are highly conductive and help dissipate static current. To improve grounding, linoleum with inserted copper strips is laid on a special adhesive with high conductivity.

Types of antistatic linoleum

Types of material

This type of coating is unique due to its ability to be used in places where the use of other coatings is impossible, especially in rooms with high electrical resistance. Based on current conductivity, antistatic linoleum is divided into types with their own characteristics:

  • With a resistance greater than 109 Ohms: a popular type, used in schools and computer classes.
  • Linoleum, the resistance of which is in the range of 107–108 Ohms (current dissipative). Carbon thread, glue, and other additives provide the required scattering properties. The material is widely used in server rooms, fluorography rooms, chemotherapy rooms, and other medical rooms.
  • With a resistance in the range of 104–106 Ohms (conductive linoleum), the composition contains graphite, which removes electrical charge from the floor. The building material is not widespread and is used in large-scale premises of plants, factories, industrial enterprises equipped with new technical inventions. Its high conductivity eliminates the possibility of electric shock upon contact with the metal surface of structures, devices, and furniture.

Such linoleum must comply with GOST: 11529, 11529-68, etc. This information is familiarized with when purchasing the material - the technical characteristics are on the label.

Technical characteristics, pros and cons of linoleum

Antistatic coating in a medical facility

Conductive linoleum and others have a number of positive characteristics:

  • PVC covering is a good insulator. However, for antistatic purposes, plasticizers are added to the composition, reducing the resistance to 109 Ohms. When walking on such a surface, a charge of no more than 2 kW occurs, which allows it to be dissipated throughout the surface.
  • The material is laid in any residential, public, or industrial premises, since there is no relationship between electrical resistance and humidity.
  • It must meet high levels of strength and wear resistance, since non-uniformity of the coating thickness leads to incorrect charge distribution. This also applies to the evenness of the subfloor.
  • The material has good level thermal insulation, elasticity, sound insulation.
  • Heat-resistant, difficult to ignite.
  • Has a high light fastness rate.
  • The coating is recommended for use in medical institutions due to its hygiene characteristics (easy to clean, washable).
  • Resists temperature changes.
  • The product has a wide color palette.
  • It is used under a “warm floor” system.
  • Moisture resistance prevents delamination, rotting, and destruction of the material.
  • It has an affordable price - cheaper than other types of coatings.
  • In terms of durability, the material is not inferior to tiles.

Despite the large list of positive aspects and high technical characteristics, antistatic linoleum has a couple of disadvantages: it is inferior in beauty to parquet, laminate, wood, and is sensitive to mechanical stress.

Popular brands and cover prices

Purchasing such a coating is not difficult - linoleum is presented in stores in a wide range. The main thing is to choose quality material.

Attention! Before purchasing material, you must require a certificate of quality and compliance with GOST.

Of the total number of brands, three are distinguished:

  • Tarkett;
  • Forbo (Smaragd collection);
  • Armstrong.

Despite the fact that these linoleum models cost less than other coatings, the prices for the products cannot be called low. By the way, when buying this building material, you should purchase Additional materials for its installation, for example, copper tapes, conductive glue, primer. The cost of the coverage may include the installation of grounding, as well as the salary of the craftsmen who will perform this work.

Linoleum installation technology

Laying antistatic linoleum consists of two stages: preparing the base and installing the insulating material. Required for operation appropriate tools and materials.

Tools required for work

To install antistatic linoleum, you need a set of materials and tools:

  • primer, putty;
  • brush;
  • rags;
  • roulette;
  • drill;
  • knife, scissors;
  • Master OK;
  • screws, nails.

You will also need copper strips for grounding, insulation sheets (linoleum), and special glue.

Preparatory work before laying the material

Indoor floor base

Before installing the covering, the base is carefully prepared - it should be leveled and screeded.

During operation, a certain microclimate is maintained in the room: humidity - up to 60%, air temperature - above 18 degrees. Before starting work, commercial antistatic linoleum is left in the room, having previously made markings and cut with scissors (knife) into the required number of sheets.

The base is carefully prepared - it must be clean, dry, and even. All irregularities and defects are puttied and primed, and a layer of putty is applied with a thickness of more than 2 mm.

Installation procedure

Installation of linoleum A/S.

The laying technology has a number of subtleties and features characteristic of this type of material: temperature, humidity conditions, adaptation to conditions.

Important! When purchasing linoleum, pay attention to its appearance: there should be no kinks or folds.

An important condition when laying conductive linoleum is to ensure contact with grounding and select the correct adhesive (so that it maintains conductivity). The use of neoprene-based contact adhesive is prohibited - the floor will change tone without providing the required effect. The issue with grounding is solved using copper tape and glue.

The sequence of actions is as follows:

Covering device diagram
  • First of all, a mesh of copper tapes is mounted on a base coated with a special primer. Part of it is placed along each joining seam, retreating 200 mm from the edge. The other part is placed across, connecting to the laid one. Then the resulting mesh is connected to the grounding system.

Attention! If there is no grounding, then it is pre-installed.

  • Then they prepare a special conductive glue for linoleum. It is purchased at the same time as the material so that the adhesive composition is optimally suited. Before using the glue, read the instructions: different compositions have their own characteristics.
  • Strips of material are immediately placed on freshly prepared glue, since if this rule is not followed, the quality of the flooring deteriorates.
  • Glue is applied to copper strips and allowed to dry. The linoleum is completely glued and applied according to the instructions.
  • To achieve full contact, air bubbles are removed using a special roller in two directions. If necessary, make a cut in the coating, but so as not to damage the copper strips. The process is continued until the coating adheres firmly. A plinth is installed around the perimeter of the room.

Antistatic linoleum is a reliable, popular material for flooring in production, commercial and residential premises. He has a number positive qualities. You can entrust the installation of the coating to professionals, or you can do it yourself. In the latter case, you need to know the sequence of work stages and the correct organization of grounding.
