Participants of the PrimDiscovery project, Alexander Khitrov and Daria Chervova, over and over again open Primorye for their readers, talk about amazing places, interesting people and their stories.

1. Route "Arseniev Trail"

A new ecological educational route in the Sikhote-Alin nature reserve.

The route "Arseniev's Trail" repeats the section of the path of the traveler, ethnographer and writer Vladimir Klavdievich Arseniev during the 1906 expedition.

A group of 3-4 people, accompanied by an inspector, walks 56 kilometers through the very heart of Sikhote-Alin for five days, completely immersing in amazing story of this place.

Five thematic huts on the trail are dedicated to the works of Vladimir Arseniev. At the end of last year, PrimDiscovery even talked about its hike along the Arseniev trail.

The trail is available for tourists from August to October.

2. National Park "Bikin"

The new Primorye National Park, one of the main habitats of the Amur tiger, is located on the western macroslope of the Sikhote-Alin ridge in the Pozharsky District, the only large basin where large-scale logging has never been done.

Here a guest of the park gets acquainted with the traditions and culture of local residents - the Udege, travels through the dense, often impenetrable taiga.

A multi-day boat trip along the "seaside Amazon", the Bikin River, is an unforgettable adventure. And in the village of Krasny Yar you can see the life of the Udege people, try them National dishes and learn more about the customs of the indigenous population.

The best time to visit the National Park is golden autumn.

3. The village of Dersu, a settlement of Old Believers

Dersu (until 1972 Laulyu) - a village in the Krasnoarmeisky District of the Primorsky Territory stands on the right bank of the Bolshaya Ussurka River.

The settlement of Old Believers seems to be something exotic, their traditions and way of life are always of interest.

Tourists not only from all over Primorye, but also from all over the world come to Dersu to get acquainted with the culture of immigrants from Bolivia, who exchanged the benefits of civilization for convictions and faith. Not far from the village there is a small hotel ready to receive guests.

It is most picturesque here in the warm season.

4. Lime Mountain (Height-611)

Primorsky people love to go to the mountains, but as a rule, these are two or three of the most trodden peaks, choking on the attention of tourists. But there are other decent options as well. For example, Mount Izvestkovaya in Dalnegorsk. People often call it Height-611 (in accordance with the height of the mountain).

This place is interesting for history and legends - ufologists all over the world have heard a lot about the mysterious disaster - the "UFO fall" at Height-611 in January 1986. A magnificent view of Dalnegorsk, abandoned quarries and the Rudnaya river valley opens from the top of the mountain.

It is best to conquer the summit in autumn, the ascent takes less than an hour.

5. Lake Blagodatnoe

The ecological trail of the Sikhote-Alin Nature Reserve partially runs along the shores of Lake Blagodatnoye and is named in his honor. The trail is a refined trail with wooden flooring, signposts and observation decks.

In summer, the lush thickets of blooming rose hips are fragrant here, insects chirp and buzz, flocks of swans and grebes float on the lake surface, graceful herons stand on the sidelines, nuthatches and buntings flutter around.

Occasionally, traces of a bear and a tiger are visible on the trail, but tourists have nothing to worry about - the group is always accompanied by an experienced staff member of the reserve with a hand flare and knowledge of safety precautions.

6. Milogradovka river

The river flows through the Call of the Tiger National Park, in one of its most beautiful places.

Carved rocks and ledges, crystal water rushing along cascades and rifts - all this makes Milogradovka "seaside Yellowstone".

Most of the river flows in a canyon formed by rocky outcrops up to 50 m high. The rocks are bluish and pink color, which is why the Blue (upstream) and Pink rapids were formed in the river.

On the river there is the Divny waterfall - the largest waterfall in the Primorsky Territory in terms of water flow. There are at least 10 waterfalls on the tributaries of the river, including the highest in the Primorsky Territory, the Celestial Falls (which is a cascade of three waterfalls, with a total height of 59 meters).

It is most beautiful in these places at the beginning of summer, when the snow melts from the Sikhote-Alin ridges and fills the mountain rivers with water.

7. Waterfall "Star of Primorye"

At the beginning of summer, it is best to go to see the Primorye Star waterfall in the Lazovsky district. "Zvezda" is part of a cascade of several Benevsky (or Elomovsky) waterfalls with a height of 1 to 5 m.

The path to it lies along the path along the murmuring cascades - you need to walk about 8 km.

At the end of the path, at the foot of Mount Bald, a tourist can see the "Star of Primorye": an 18-meter handsome man who noisily falls on the stones.

Nearby there is a convenient camping site where you can camp overnight with a tent.

8. Furugelm Island

The south of Primorsky Krai is famous for its beaches and natural beauty. Furugelm Island is the southernmost island in Primorye. On a small (the size of only 1.5 by 2.5 kilometers) the island is beautiful, as in the tropics - a transparent turquoise sea, white sand, lush greenery.

History
The most ancient settlements in Primorye were discovered on the territory of the present Nakhodka region. They belong to the Paleolithic era. Ancient settlements (there are more than 50) cover the period from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages. The Middle Ages in the south of the Russian Far East (chronological stage between the 4th and 16th centuries) coincided with the periods of the emergence, prosperity and death of the states of Bohai (698-926), Jin (115-1234), Eastern Xia (1215-1233). During this period, agriculture and handicrafts began to develop in Primorye, trade arose, cities appeared; the cattle-breeding and agricultural cultures of the Far East were mixed with the developed agricultural and urban economy of the Chinese.
The territory of the South Ussuriysk Territory was included in the Russian state under the Aigun (1858) and Beijing (1860) treaties with China. Administratively, the region became part of the Primorsky region, formed in 1856. The Ussuriysk Territory was very sparsely populated: in 1861 it had less than 20 thousand people. Governor-General of Eastern Siberia N.N. Muravyov (for the conclusion of the Aigun Treaty he was awarded the title of Count of Amur) was the leader of the expedition, which in 1859 explored the northwestern coast of the Sea of Japan and determined the place for a military post, the future capital of Primorye - Vladivostok. Then military posts were established on Lake Khanka, in the Olga Bay. In 1865-1869, Cossack villages were built on the Ussuri River, later the Ussuriyskoye Cossack army, whose task was to protect the borders.
The Russian government encouraged settlers to the Ussuri region, which was declared free for settlement by peasants who did not have land, and people of all classes who wanted to resettle at their own expense. Each family of settlers was given a plot of land up to 100 acres (109 hectares) for free use, the settlers were forever exempted from the poll tax and for 10 years - from the recruiting duty. The influx of peasants into the South Ussuriysk Territory has noticeably increased: in 1861-1881, three thousand people arrived, and in 1883-1899 - about 50 thousand people, and in 1897 the region had about 150 thousand people.
Construction in the late 19th - early 20th centuries played an important role in the development of Primorye and all of Siberia. Trans-Siberian railway, linking the Far East with Central Russia. The economic development of Primorye took place on the basis of market relations, although the private right to land was limited. The leading branch of agriculture was agriculture; winter and spring wheat, rye, oats, buckwheat, potatoes, legumes, sunflowers, corn, sugar beets, hemp, flax, tobacco were grown here. From the end of the 19th century, horticulture, gardening, melon growing developed, cattle, horses, pigs were bred, antler reindeer breeding was born.
The industrial development of Primorye was carried out primarily through the development of natural resources: coal deposits (in the area of Posiet Bay, Suchana), gold (on Askold Island), polymetallic ores. By the end of the 19th century, the production of fish and seafood (seaweed, trepangs, crabs) acquired industrial importance. In the 1890s, on the basis of the timber industry, the woodworking industry began to develop: five steam sawmills, a match and plywood factories were built, a printing industry appeared, and the first power plants appeared. On the basis of the ship repair workshops built in 1864, a ship repair plant (now Dalzavod) was created in Vladivostok. By 1914 Vladivostok became one of the five largest ports in Russia. More than a dozen consulates and a large number of foreign trade missions were opened in the city.
In 1922, the region was transformed into the Primorsky province, which was part of the Far Eastern region (FED). In 1926, the Far Eastern Military District was transformed into the Far Eastern Territory (DVK), and the Primorskaya province, first into the Vladivostok district, then (since 1932) - into the Primorskaya and Ussuriysk regions. In 1938, the Primorsky Territory was formed with the administrative center of Vladivostok.
In the 1920s, the private sector played a dominant role in the Primorye economy. NEP here took strong roots and lasted longer than in Central Russia. Two-thirds of the economy was in the hands of foreign capital. Among the large foreign firms such as Kunst and Albers and Brynner stood out. The largest foreign concession was the British mining company Tetyukhe Mining Corporation (1925-1931), which was engaged in the search, exploration, development and processing of silver-lead-zinc ores of the Tetyukhe deposit in the north of Primorye. But from the end of the 1920s, the city became closed to foreigners, all foreign enterprises were closed.
In the early 1930s, forced industrialization began in Primorye, and then collectivization. The construction of roads, new industrial enterprises (mining, forestry, fishing, ship repair) was launched. Coal mines were reconstructed. The fishing industry remained one of the leading industries in the region. Also developed different kinds transport - rail, air, significantly increased the capabilities of the Far Eastern Shipping Company (FESCO). In agriculture, collective farms were created, wealthy peasants were subjected to dispossession and repression.
Rapid economic development required an influx of new labor. The resettlement of workers and peasant families from the central regions of Russia, as well as demobilized Red Army soldiers, was organized to the Far East. The labor of prisoners began to be widely used. At the end of 1929, branches of the Far Eastern camp (Dallag, later Vladlag) and the transit camp "Vtoraya Rechka" (Vladivostok) were organized in Primorye, from where the prisoners were transported by steamers to the Kolyma to the North-Eastern camps. Prisoners in Vladivostok worked at construction and loading works, in Nikolsk-Ussuriisky and Spassk-Dalny they mined gold on the Askold Island, in Suchan and Artem - coal, logged wood in the taiga and fish along the entire coast of Primorye.
In years Stalinist repression(especially in 1937-1938) tens of thousands of people were subjected to arrest, exile to camps and executions, and forced deportation from Primorye of all residents of the Korean (to Kazakhstan and Central Asia) and Chinese (mainly to China) nationalities, in total - about 200 thousand people. Despite forced evictions, deportations, executions, and return migration, the population of Primorye grew rapidly in the 1930s. By 1940, its number reached 939 thousand people. During the Second World War, Primorye was deep in the rear, although the danger of an attack by Japan persisted for a long time. The production of military equipment and shells was established here, the extraction of timber, coal, rare and non-ferrous metals continued.
After the end of the war, Primorsky Krai continued to develop as an industrial and agricultural region of the Far East. More and more new deposits of coal and ores were developed, mining and processing factories, new power plants were built. The fishing industry was replenished with trawlers, seiners, refrigerators. Big flow transportation carried out by the Far Eastern Railway, the port of Vladivostok. A new large port of Nakhodka was built, which in the 1970s-1980s became one of the largest in the Russian Federation. Since the 1980s, another new seaside port, Vostochny, began operating near Nakhodka. By the mid-1960s, new industries for the region were created: chemical, electrical, instrument-making, instrumental, porcelain, furniture.
The population of the region by 1979 reached 1 million 381 thousand people. Along with Vladivostok and Ussuriysk, the cities of Nakhodka, Spassk, Lesozavodsk, Arsenyev, the villages of Dalnegorsk and Kavalerovo, which became industrial centers, developed rapidly. But the costly economy of "developed socialism" could not ensure the efficiency of the economy. After the breakup Soviet Union Primorye was going through the difficulties of the transition period. In 1992 Vladivostok was opened to foreign citizens: tourists, businessmen, small entrepreneurs.
