What to fix the toilet. Methods for attaching the toilet to the floor. We install a wall-mounted toilet on the installation

When carrying out renovation work in the bathroom, in most cases the old plumbing fixtures are replaced with new ones. Since the bathroom is a room with high humidity, most often it is faced with tiles. You can order the installation of a toilet on a tiled floor from specialists, or you can install it yourself.

It is easiest to install equipment on tiles when everything facing works in the bathroom are completed. Dismantling an old toilet and installing a new one is not a difficult job, so you can save on the services of specialists and install it yourself. Toilets differ in design and size, but the components for its installation are identical.

Since the installation of a toilet on a tile occurs directly with the base to the floor, the most important task is to determine the boundaries where its leg will be attached. You need to take measurements carefully and carefully distribute the distance to the walls and other plumbing fixtures in the bathroom.

Required materials and tools

When buying plumbing equipment, you need to carefully inspect it and find out if all the components are available. The set of spare parts depends on the type of design. To install a toilet on tiles you must have:

  • Mounting bracket;
  • Bolts;
  • Hairpins;
  • Plastic dowels;
  • Gaskets;
  • Washers;
  • Top plugs for decoration.

If the manufacturer does not provide factory fastening, then you need to take care of this yourself by purchasing additional ones from the plumbing department.

In addition to the components, you need to have on hand a set of tools, equipment and building materials:

  • A hammer drill or drill complete with various drills, including those for working with ceramic tiles.
  • Adjustable wrench.
  • Building level.
  • Hammer.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Lead pencil.
  • Rubber spatula.
  • Marker.

To connect:

  • Hose supplied to the drain barrel (flexible);
  • Ball valve;
  • Sealant;
  • Pipe for supply to the sewer pipe.

Preparing to install a toilet

Before you start attaching the toilet to the floor on the tiles, you need to empty the room and remove everything unnecessary. The first step is to mark the boundaries where the toilet will be installed, install it and outline the outline of the base. A marker is best for this. Along with the outline, marks for holes for fasteners are indicated.

After making the marks, you need to remove the toilet and apply micro chips to the drilling sites with a center punch. This will allow you to avoid damaging the entire surface of the tile when drilling holes.

You need to cut the tiles in two steps. First, take a drill for working with ceramic tiles. After that you need to take a drill to work with concrete surfaces. The resulting holes must be treated with sealant to prevent moisture from entering them.

Important! When drilling tiles, care must be taken to ensure that the drill does not overheat. To do this, it needs to be cooled in cold water.

Methods for installing a toilet on tiles

There are several ways to install a toilet on tiles:

  1. Internal method.
  2. External method.
  3. For cement mortar.
  4. For construction adhesive.
  5. On the dowels.
  6. For silicone.
  7. For epoxy resin.
  8. For liquid nails.

External installation instructions

The external installation method involves fixing the toilet to tiles using bolts. It has several stages.

  1. Use a pencil or marker to mark the places where the base and fastening points will be located, then carefully drill. Calculate the depth in accordance with the dimensions of the bolts.
  2. Mounting holes must be machined silicone sealant and insert plastic dowels.
  3. It is best to coat the outlined base with silicone sealant to prevent moisture from getting under the toilet.
  4. You need to screw the studs into the holes, install the toilet on them and tighten the bolts.
    If, during tightening, sealant comes out between the base and the tile, it should be removed using a rubber spatula.
  5. The final stage is the installation of decorative plugs and connection to the sewer pipe.

Instructions for internal fastening

When fixing the toilet internally to the tile, they prepare not only the mounting and installation sites, but also the location for the connection to the sewer pipe and the water supply.

  1. A mounting bracket must be attached to the toilet. It is connected using a threaded connection.
  2. Place the base of the device on the tile and mark with a pencil or marker the places where the bracket holes will be located.
  3. Drill holes according to the marks. Their depth should correspond to the size of the bolt.
  4. Tighten the bolts, but not completely. It is necessary to leave some play for ease of connection to other plumbing elements.
  5. Install sealed plumbing elements. Before installation, coat their outline with silicone for plumbing work.
  6. Place the plumbing fixtures on the mounting brackets and secure them to the internal brackets through the side holes. If silicone comes out when tightening, remove it with a spatula.
  7. The final tightening should be done after the toilet has been checked for compliance with the sewer system and water supply.

Mounting on plumbing dowels

Dowel fastening is the most common and reliable method. But it also has points that need to be taken into account during installation.

First of all, for this method of fastening you need to drill a hole in the ceramic tile under the intended location of the toilet base. This must be done very carefully, because any mistake can lead to damage.

The dowel mounting is designed for low installation weight. If the toilet is heavy, then it is better to choose another method.

The first step is to mark the intended installation location with a marker, outlining the base and attachment points.

Important! The toilet should not wobble even before screwing it to the tile. If this happens, put a thick backing on the tile under the toilet or clean its base, if the problem is not the unevenness of the floor surface.

Drill the tiles carefully to avoid chips and cracks. To do this, you need to take a drill for working with ceramic tiles and a drill for concrete. After the tiles are drilled, you need to change the drills.

Insert plastic dowels into the resulting holes treated with silicone sealant. Position the toilet in accordance with the holes and insert the dowels. They need to be tightened after installing special rubber bands that will protect the coating from damage when tightened.

How to install a toilet on tiles yourself without bolts

It happens that you need to install a toilet without bolts on tiles. Most often this happens when a “warm floor” system is installed. Then it’s worth knowing how to glue the toilet to the tile if drilling is impossible. To do this, install the toilet using glue without drilling.

How to glue a toilet to ceramic tiles

To install in this way, you need to buy specialized glue, which is used in construction. Before installation, measure the base of the toilet and mark it on the tile with a marker. Clean the base of the toilet and degrease it along with the tiles.

Apply the glue carefully to the base of the toilet. Observe the proportions, because if there is not enough glue, the toilet will not hold well. If there is a lot, there is a risk of staining the rest of the tiles.

Carefully move the device to the mounting location and lower it along the marks. It's best if they help you. It is problematic for one person to cope and place a level base.

Important! If the composition protrudes beyond the boundaries of the base, it must be immediately removed with a spatula soaked in soapy water.

Do not use the toilet for 24 hours to allow the glue to cure thoroughly.

Installing a toilet on tiles using cement mortar

Installing a toilet on tiles using this method is not the best the best option. It is suitable for cases when the toilet is installed in place of a dismantled one or when installation tools are not available.

To attach a toilet to a tiled floor without drilling using cement mortar, you need the following tools:

  • cement mortar or cement-based tile adhesive;
  • marker or pencil;
  • hammer;
  • spatula (narrow and medium);
  • chisel.

Before you begin, you need to roughly check the joints of all installation elements by installing the device in the intended location and connecting all the necessary plumbing elements. Then you need to outline the base with a marker or pencil. Using a chisel, it is necessary to apply notches at the marks.

Important! The notches must be applied carefully to prevent the tile from cracking. Be sure to wear safety glasses to prevent shrapnel from getting into your eyes.

The next step is to prepare the cement mortar; the cement mortar is diluted 2:1. The cement mixture contains large admixtures of sand, which can affect hardening. Best to use ready mixture tile adhesive, as it is much more reliable and dries faster. Calculate the preparation of the solution for 4 kilograms.

Once the mixture is prepared, it should be carefully applied to the notched area. Before gluing the toilet to the tile using the resulting composition, you need to moisten the surface a little. The base of the device’s legs must also be moistened and installed in the place allocated for it. On the front and back sides, plastic plates must be placed under the base, the thickness of which should be 5 mm and the width 50 mm.

Important! While placing the plates, it is necessary to ensure that the toilet seat is perfectly level.

Remove excess solution using a spatula. After drying, it is necessary to remove the pads and concrete the holes from them with the same solution. Do not use plumbing fixtures for 5 days.

If in the future you want to dismantle it, this will happen by splitting its base. This means that it can no longer be reinstalled.

Installing a toilet with liquid nails, epoxy resin, silicone

It is possible to install the device on tiles using liquid nails, silicone sealant, epoxy resin. When using these methods, it is necessary to study all the pros and cons of such an installation.

If you use liquid nails, subsequent dismantling will lead to splitting of the base.

Fixing a toilet with silicone is a common method, but this method does not guarantee that the installation will not move over time. The only advantage of installing on silicone is that subsequent dismantling will take place without damage to the device and tiles.

Safe and reliable way fastenings - gluing the toilet to the floor using epoxy resin. But this also has its drawbacks; when dismantling, the tile covering will be damaged.

Installation using all three methods is similar to mounting on cement mortar. The first step is to mark the edges of the leg on the tile. Then degrease the joints, namely the edges of the base and the tiled surface. Apply the mixture to the tiles and the base of the device, then press well and wait until the mixture hardens.

Connection to sewerage and water supply

The supplied toilet must be connected to sewer system for further usage. For this purpose, plastic is most often used. It allows you to adjust the distance and angle of entry into the sewer pipe. The corrugated pipe has reliable seals that prevent leakage at the outlet and at the junction with the drain hole.

The corrugation must be inserted into the sewer pipe and into the toilet outlet, and lubricated at the junction with plumbing silicone. Then you need to check the tightness by draining water from the drain barrel. If the tank is not yet connected, this can be done using a bucket of water.

To properly install a toilet on a tile, there are a number of useful tips:

  • Before installing plumbing, it is necessary to complete all repair and finishing work in the bathroom. This is necessary so that during the installation process there are no problems with fitting the tiles.
  • Always measure the distance to sewer pipe and surrounding walls.
  • It is best for two people to install the toilet.
  • If observed uneven surface in the bathroom, then to prevent the toilet from wobbling, a backing is placed under it during installation.
  • If the toilet has a heated floor, this means that drilling cannot be done. Drilling tiles with a heated floor system will lead to damage. For this purpose, only methods involving gluing the toilet to the tile are suitable.

Common Mistakes

The most common mistake is poor surface leveling. As a result, equipment breakdown and leakage may occur. To do this, you need to have a building level on hand.

Poor sealing can lead to unpleasant odors and unwanted leaks. You need to use only high-quality components with good rubberized gaskets.

There is no need to skip the point of cleaning all pipes from contamination so that the service life of the equipment is longer. If a leak in the drain barrel is detected, it is necessary to check the serviceability of the valves.

Installing a toilet is not a complicated process; you can do it yourself. The main rule is to follow all instructions and recommendations for its installation.

Sometimes you have to make a replacement plumbing equipment without waiting for renovations in the apartment. The slightest chip or crack can lead to serious consequences. And the quality of water, even with proper cleaning, leaves unsightly traces of rust. Installing a toilet with your own hands is quite possible for anyone. You can, of course, invite craftsmen from specialized services. However, installing it yourself saves a considerable amount of money. family budget. Basics of proper planning of space in the toilet

To make the layout of the space in the restroom as comfortable as possible, it is important to adhere to some rules:

  1. The distance from the side wall, washbasin or bathtub to the toilet should be at least 25 cm.
  2. The distance in front of the toilet should be about 60 cm.

The layout will be affected by the size of the new plumbing, mounting options, drainage method and height of the toilet. Knowing how to properly install a toilet, you can begin to select and plan the placement of the rest of the plumbing in the restroom.

Basics of choosing the right toilet for your home

The optimal solution when replacing an old toilet is to choose similar equipment. It is important that the mounting principle and drainage location of the new equipment are identical to the old one. It is desirable that the drainage angle coincides with the outlet angle of the already installed sewer pipe. Otherwise, you will need to install additional corrugation or pipe fragments from the new toilet to the old connection.

Modern equipment can be classified into the following types:

Removing an old toilet

Replacing a toilet with your own hands can hide some difficulties. Let's look at the whole process step by step with recommendations for overcoming possible difficulties:

  1. Before starting work, it is necessary to shut off the water supply to the tank.
  2. Drain the water from the tank and make sure that its supply is stopped.
  3. Disconnect the drain hose.
  4. Unscrew the fastenings of the tank to the toilet.
  5. Unscrew the toilet fastenings to the floor.
  6. Disconnect the bowl from the drain hole in the sewer pipe. If the equipment was installed a long time ago and the drain is coated with cement, use a hammer and screwdriver to destroy the cement mortar. Before you disconnect the toilet, you must drain the water from the elbow. To do this, you need to tilt it several times in different directions.
  7. After all the manipulations, the toilet bowl can be removed.
  8. The sewer hole must be temporarily closed with a plug or cloth.

Preparing a new toilet for installation

Before installing the toilet on a tiled floor, you need to check the surface level. It should not have slopes or drops. If you are replacing the cladding or installing a toilet in a new room, you must first fill the screed level and finish it with tiles. It would also be a good idea to take an inventory of the sewer lines.

Installing a toilet with a hidden cistern

The arrangement of a sanitary room can be done taking into account modern technologies and maximum comfort. For the most demanding owners, equipment with a hidden drain tank is offered. It fits perfectly into the latest interior solutions. You can choose a floor-standing model or a hanging frame installation. Installation of a toilet installation can be divided into 2 stages: installation of the flush cistern and installation of the toilet.

Installation of a wall-mounted toilet on an installation

Before installing the installation, it is necessary to make markings on the wall. To do this, use a tape measure and a level to determine the location of the central axis, then measure the perimeter of the installation from it. It is important that the distance from the edge of the tank to the wall is at least 135 mm. You should also mark the equipment attachment points. The level will help you accurately determine horizontal and vertical lines.

To understand and how to choose a wall-hung toilet for it, in this article we will look at the features different types, selection criteria and several popular manufacturers of this type of equipment.

You should know! Installation of a built-in toilet with installation is only possible on a load-bearing wall.

After marking, you need to use a hammer drill to drill holes for future fastening. Then insert anchors into them and secure the base modular design. After installation, you need to check everything again with a level and level the system with height regulators and plugs.

Next, you can install the tank. Fastening should be done with special connections that were included in the equipment package. After which you can connect the system to the water supply. Using a plastic clamp, attach the sewer outlet and treat all connections with silicone.

To install a toilet with your own hands, you must perform the following steps:

  • screw the pins into the pre-drilled holes;
  • place couplings on the studs;
  • check the pipes for compliance with the dimensions;
  • before installing the bowl for shock absorption, you need to install a silicone or rubber gasket;
  • install the equipment and inspect all connections for leaks;
  • connect and secure the drain hose with clamps.

After installing the structure, it is important that the distance from the edge modular system to the wall surface did not exceed 210 mm. Otherwise, after installing the false panel, the length of the bolts will not be enough to secure the toilet.

Installation of floor models

Do-it-yourself installation with a floor-standing toilet differs from a wall-hung one only in the way the bowl is installed:

  • first of all, you should fix the position of the knee using metal fasteners;
  • treat the outlet with silicone;
  • install the equipment and mark the contour and holes on the floor;
  • remove the bowl and install the corners according to the markings;
  • place the bowl in place, carefully press the outlet into the pipe, fix the equipment to the floor using the bolts that were included in the kit;
  • after installation, you can connect the tank in the same way as in the suspension system;
  • on final stage Place the drain button into the hole prepared in advance on the panel.

Assembly floor-standing toilet You can watch the video below with your own hands:

Basic types of floor fasteners

The bowl can be installed in several ways:

  • when installed on a pedestal (tile) with 2 or 4 dowels. For reliability during installation, drip a little sealant into the holes and make a silicone cushion along the contour of the equipment;
  • anchors installed in the floor screed during pouring. The method does not allow errors. It is important to select the required length of the anchor so that you can then screw the nut when installing the toilet;
  • on wooden backing - this method was used in the old days. It should be taken into account that the humidity in the bathroom is increased;
  • on corners that are fixed to the floor. Fastening is carried out through the side holes in the equipment leg;
  • on glue. The floor surface is treated with sandpaper to increase adhesion, then it must be degreased with any solvent. Epoxy glue with a thickness of 4 mm or more is applied along the pre-applied contour of the equipment leg. The equipment is carefully installed, with the simultaneous alignment of the drain and sewer pipe. After 12 hours you can use the restroom.

Main types of wall mounting

Wall-mounted equipment is attached only to the load-bearing surface of the wall using a metal frame. The flat cistern and pipe junction are located behind a false plasterboard panel. The metal frame and toilet are attached to anchors embedded in the load-bearing wall.

Main types of connecting a toilet to a sewer system

To attach the bowl to the sewer, you need to select pipeline fittings based on the size and installation option. Installation of fittings should be carried out before fixing the equipment to the floor. Let's look at the main connection options, their differences and installation recommendations.

Fan pipe or plastic pipe

A drain pipe is used when a vacuum can be formed in the sewer system to prevent the water seal from breaking down and unpleasant odors from entering the room. Pipe installation is recommended in multi-storey buildings with a large number of water intake points.

Manufacturers offer eccentrics and pipe fittings with a check valve, which operate on the principle similar to work fan pipe.

It is made in the form of a single element. When selecting, it is important to select a product with a diameter that matches the connection point of the equipment. If not the right choice diameter, it is impossible to correct the flaws.

Eccentric

The cuffs consist of 2 pipes with an offset center, connected by soldering. Using this connection, you can quickly and easily connect the toilet to the sewer. It is important to determine the required length before starting work.

A strong connection is ensured by the O-ring, so when connecting to plastic sewer there is no need to use additional sealant. It will be needed when connecting to cast iron pipes.

Eccentric cuffs are not suitable for every connection, if the joining elements are located on long distance, it is recommended to use corrugation.

Corrugation

The corrugated collar is an ideal connection for complex and non-standard connections. Before installing the corrugation on the toilet, you need to choose a product of appropriate quality. The savings in this case will be insignificant, but the damage will be very noticeable. You can choose reinforced corrugation, this will significantly extend the service life.

How to connect a toilet to a sewer: connection features

Before assembling the toilet, you need to decide which form of release is preferable and whether the purchased toilet model matches it. It is important to know the features and nuances of connecting each release.

Bathroom with vertical outlet

This installation is possible in new houses or private housing, in which the pipes are laid under the floor. Vertical outlet eliminates the possibility of blockages and leaks. In addition, this design makes it possible to bring the equipment as close as possible to the wall.

Before installation, a special flange should be secured into the hole on the sewer pipe using dowels.

Important! The axis of the fixing elements must be perpendicular to the axis of the equipment bowl.

To prevent unpleasant odors from entering from the sewer, the sealing rubber should be lubricated with sealant. Then install and secure the toilet.

Bathroom with horizontal outlet

Connection using a horizontal outlet is similar to installation on a corrugated pipe. You can, as with the vertical one, bring the equipment as close as possible to the wall. Its main difference is that before installation it is necessary to install a rigid system that will connect the sanitary equipment to the sewer riser.

When installing the toilet, you will need the help of a second person so that when installing the pipe you do not displace the elements of the sewer system. Before starting work, you need to install the toilet in place, mark the locations of the fasteners, then remove it and drill holes using a hammer drill. required diameter. After that, install the dowels and put the bowl in place.

Lubricate the pipe and the opening of the sewer pipe with sealant. Before installing the fastener, it is necessary to make several test drains to determine leakage.

IN modern apartments Instead of a rigid connection, corrugation is often used. It is more mobile; it can be used to move structures without installing additional reinforcement.

Bowl with oblique release

Its installation is easiest to do with an assistant. The installation is similar to a horizontal outlet with a pipe. It is necessary to first mark, then drill holes, install dowels, put the bowl in place and secure it. If a leak occurs after a test drain, it is necessary to lubricate the connections with silicone again and leave for a while until completely dry. Thanks to the 45° slope, the possibility of leaks is reduced.

Connecting water to the toilet cistern

After fixing the tank to the toilet, you need to connect the water. Before starting work, it is recommended to install a shut-off valve to regulate the water supply to the tank, with the help of which, in the event of work, you can repair the equipment without damaging other water points in the apartment.

Then screw the flexible hose to the outlet of the tank and to the central water supply pipe. Can be used for connection strength special seals or tape-fum.

Estimated prices for installation work

In order to choose an installation company, you can seek help from a service organization or a company that does plumbing work. It is important to conclude an agreement and register warranty periods on installation work.

Here are the approximate prices for basic bathroom refurbishment work:

Additionally, you may need funds for preliminary consultation, replacement of sewer pipes and adjustment of equipment. The total amount in the end is not small. Self-installation, significantly saves personal funds, which can be invested in purchasing better equipment.

Conclusion

The toilet bowl can be attached to the floor in several ways, depending on the design of the base of the bowl, the type of fastening and the material of the floor itself. According to the type of fastenings, installation is distinguished into:

Installation on dowels has a different sequence of work depending on the floor material.

Concrete, rough foundation

The simplest and quick way installation on concrete base. Recommended for compact models. In this case, it is necessary to level the base cement-sand screed. The slightest distortion will affect the quality of the flush.

Installation on concrete has additional benefit is that a 3 cm thick screed will act as a cushion for the sole of the toilet bowl. The sequence of actions is as follows:

  1. The toilet bowl is placed in the place of future fastening;
  2. The places where the dowels are attached are marked;
  3. Holes are drilled in the ceiling and plastic dowels are driven in;
  4. Sand-cement mixture mixed in a ratio of 1:2 is laid 4-5 cm thick;
  5. The product is installed in place and pressed down so that the excess solution comes out and the main mass fills the cavity at the base of the sole.
  6. The fastening screws are tightened.
  7. It can only be used 24 hours after the mixture has completely hardened.

Before installation, you must carefully position the product. The toilet bowl is replaced on average once every 10-15 years, so an incorrect position can be quite annoying.

Tile installation

It is practiced when renovations in the bathroom have already been made and all communications have been taken outside. In this case, you should focus on the type of product release. It is recommended to fasten the pedestal with an oblique outlet as follows:

  1. The location of future holes is marked;
  2. Holes are drilled using a hammer drill. They should be slightly smaller than plastic dowels, at least 60-70 mm long.
  3. Silicone sealant is poured into the holes to improve adhesion;
  4. Silicone is also applied to the entire base of the pedestal. In several places, wooden or plastic mounting wedges or plates 2-3 mm thick are placed under the sole. This is done so that the silicone is not squeezed out from under the base.
  5. The screws are screwed in, not reaching the end by 2-3 ota.
  6. A day later, after the sealant has dried, the wooden wedges are removed and the screws are finally tightened. This creates an elastic base that will prevent cracking and chipping of the tiles.
  7. Silicone must be poured into the cracks that formed after removing the inserts.

To prevent the tile from bursting during drilling, the surface tension of the glaze layer is removed by punching the marked area with a core. 1-2 mm are drilled in drill mode and only then switches to hammer drill mode.

A pedestal with a direct vertical drain is installed in a similar way, only it is placed around the drain hole. sealing rubber. This toilet mount may not be included as standard and must be purchased separately. Silicone is also applied along the contour.

It is recommended to lubricate the inner surface of the toilet outlet with red lead sealant.

The silicone that is applied to the floor under the toilet can be replaced with sheet rubber 2-3 mm thick. It is marked along the contour of the base of the pedestal, but is cut 1-2 mm smaller. The gap formed between the base and the tile is covered with silicone or tile putty to match the one used for the bathroom. This is done so that the black stripe at the base is not visible.

Glue installation

This installation method sometimes occurs if the bathroom has heated floors without calculating the products being installed. Then it is no longer possible to drill the floor, but a strong and reliable fastening must be made.

The glue is prepared as follows:

  • Epoxy resin ED-6 is heated to a temperature of 50°C;
  • A solvent is added and a hardener is added;
  • Stirring constantly, cement of at least M300 grade is added until a viscous homogeneous mass is obtained.

The mixture can be used within one and a half hours. Composition proportions - resin: solvent: hardener: cement - 100: 20: 35: 200.

Before application, the surface of the tile and the base of the pedestal is degreased with acetone or another similar substance. The composition is applied to the surface in an even layer, not exceeding 0.4 cm. The toilet cannot be used for 12-15 hours.

Reinstallation on taffeta

If the integrity of the toilet bowl or pedestal is damaged and it needs to be replaced, it may turn out that the base on which the old product was installed is significantly lower than the general floor level in the bathroom.

In this case, it is attached to taffeta. This is a wooden or rubber lining, cut along the contour of the toilet base with holes for anchors 5-30 mm thick, depending on the depth of the recess. In the case of wood, it must be treated several times with antiseptics and water-repellent impregnations. You can even soak it with waste machine oil. The floor at the attachment point must be carefully leveled.

Side anchors

In some models, the technological holes for fastening are located not vertically, but on the side of the pedestal at an angle of 90°. In this case, special side mounts for the toilet are provided. However, the procedure for installing and sealing joints does not change when using them.

Types of fixing the toilet to the floor

Attaching the toilet to the floor, various ways depending on the type of base and design of the pedestal. Use of anchors, glue and substrates.

Attaching the toilet to the floor

In this article we will tell you about popular methods of attaching a toilet to the floor. It’s worth saying right away that we will not describe the technology of concreting a toilet; it is gradually becoming a thing of the past. Now the toilet is installed directly on the tile and here it is important to understand the methods of its fastening.

Dismantling works

First of all, it is necessary to implement dismantling work to remove the old device. All this work shouldn't take much time. First of all, turn off the tap that supplies water to the tank. After this, the nut on the hose is unscrewed. Water drains from the tank. Next, the mount on the tank is dismantled.

After this, the fasteners on the toilet itself are dismantled. These are usually anchors screwed into the floor. If you still have old toilet, then it can be cemented. In this case, you need to carefully break the screed and completely remove the old toilet.

If there are no plans for it or it is already leaking, then you can break the toilet itself, in which case dismantling will be easier. But remember, this is acceptable if it is concreted!

During the dismantling process, be sure to follow safety precautions so that fragments do not damage unprotected areas of the body. Plus, you need to carefully remove the toilet from the sewer pipe. If it is damaged, the installation process may be difficult.

Preparing the base

After complete dismantling, the base should be prepared for installing the toilet. The amount of work will depend entirely on the quality of the floor. If there are tiles on it and you do not plan to replace them, then just make sure that they are held securely. If you delete old tile and lay a new one, then you should not rush to install the toilet.

If the old device was concreted and a hole formed in the floor after its removal, then it must be completely cleaned and cemented. It is also important to pay attention to the outlet of the sewer pipe. It must be intact to eliminate the possibility of leakage waste water. If you have cast iron pipes, then immediately plan to replace the pipe with a plastic one.

Tools

To secure the toilet with your own hands you need appropriate tool. Most DIYers have one. In particular, you may need:

This is the main set of tools. Its configuration may vary slightly depending on the installation method.

Instructions for fixing the toilet - 3 ways

So, we invite you to familiarize yourself with three ways to secure a toilet:

Although the technology is different, the task remains the same - securely fix the toilet to the floor so that it does not fall during use.

Using dowels

If you have a flat floor, then this method is the most common. But a perfectly flat tile floor is important here. If there is a slight difference at the mounting location, the toilet may break.

To prevent this from happening, you can place a rubber lining or a piece of old linoleum under the toilet. To cut it out, you need to place the toilet on the material, trace the outline with a marker and then cut out the given shape.

After this, markings are carried out directly on the floor. In most cases, toilets have two fasteners. The marking process is carried out as follows:

  • Place the toilet in the intended place.
  • Trace its outline on the floor.
  • Place marks where the mounting hole will be drilled.
  • Remove the device and apply a sealant to the floor, with which the lining you selected and cut will be glued.

While the sealant hardens, you can begin making the hole. The quality of fastening will largely depend on the correct drill diameter chosen. It must fully match the diameter of the dowel. You can drill through the gasket.

A plastic dowel must be driven into the prepared hole. After this, we install the toilet in place and secure it with dowels. The device should be firmly tightened, but only moderately, otherwise the eyelet on the mount may break off.

For simplified installation, usually the dowels for fastening are equipped with a special plastic gasket, which eliminates the possibility of possible chipping.

On next stage The toilet is connected to the sewer, the tank is installed and the water is connected. When installing the tank, a rubber seal must be used. To make it more likely, it can be coated with silicone or other sealant. This will increase the quality of the joint and prevent water leakage during draining.

At the end of all work, it is recommended to treat the joint between the toilet and the tiles on the floor with silicone sealant. This will prevent water from flowing in and moisture from accumulating.

You can also fix the toilet with glue. This is especially necessary when there is heated floor technology. As an adhesive composition they can be different materials, such as epoxy glue, silicone and other sealants.

If epoxy adhesive is present, its use is only allowed if the floors are sufficiently smooth. The work process is as follows:

  1. First, the floor surface must be thoroughly cleaned of all kinds of contaminants. There should also be no moisture that will prevent good adhesion.
  2. To ensure high adhesion quality, floor tiles can be roughened with a stiff brush.
  3. Next, the surface is degreased with acetone or another solvent.
  4. If the glue is ready, then it must be applied to the bottom of the toilet sole, with a layer thickness of up to 4 mm.
  5. Then bring the device to the sewer hole, connect it and at the same time install it in its place.
  6. After placing the toilet on the floor, it must be pressed and left for half a day for the glue to harden.
  7. Only when the glue has dried can the tank and water supply be connected.

That's the whole technology of gluing the toilet to the floor.

If you have a wooden floor, then this method of fixing the toilet is the most suitable. Taffeta refers to a special layer of wood.

The thickness of the wood should be around 300 mm. In order to prevent rotting of this embedded part, it must be treated with drying oil and other anti-corrosion compounds. The essence of this technology is as follows:

  • Place nails on the prepared timber so that they protrude 30 mm from the taffeta.
  • Next, a recess is prepared in the screed according to the size of the taffeta.
  • Fill the hole with solution.
  • Apply the workpiece to the solution with the side where the nails stick out.
  • As a result, it should be flush with the floor.
  • It is necessary to give time for the solution to completely set and strengthen.
  • After 12 hours, you can fix the toilet using self-tapping screws directly into the wooden embed.

After this, the standard procedure for connecting the barrel is carried out. Additionally, you can coat the joint between the toilet and taffeta with silicone. This will eliminate the possibility that moisture will flow and accumulate under the sole.

So, we looked at the two most common technologies for how to properly install a toilet on tiles. We also additionally learned what to do if you have a wooden floor. As you can see, nothing special complex processes No. One of the main tasks is to choose the right fasteners.

Although in most cases, it comes with the purchased device. We hope that this material will help you independently understand all the details of installing and fastening the toilet.

Fastening the toilet to the floor is easy to do with your own hands

No living space can live without a toilet. There are several simple ways to install it correctly. About this in our material.

How to fix a toilet to the floor: 3 ways to install a toilet

The installation of any plumbing equipment must be carried out taking into account certain building regulations and normal. For most people, performing such an operation on their own seems too difficult. This is what companies that offer their installation services play on. various plumbing fixtures for quite a lot of money.

Although installing a toilet is one of the simplest operations. To carry it out correctly, you need to know some of the subtleties of the process. In this article we will talk about how to properly fix the toilet to the floor so that it does not wobble using several methods.

Regardless of which method you decide to use to install the toilet, all work should begin with assembling the flush cistern. The flush mechanism is assembled according to the instructions supplied with the toilet, after which it must be installed in a certain place.

The preparatory stage also includes the arrangement of water supply and sewer lines. As mentioned above, there is more than one way to attach plumbing fixtures. Its choice directly depends on the material with which the floor is finished.

This is the most common installation method. With its help you can install plumbing fixtures quite quickly and without extra effort. This method is best suited for smooth surfaces, so if you have a question about how to fix the toilet on tiled floor, then read further carefully.

The method is suitable for flat and smooth surfaces, since even a minimal difference in height will significantly reduce the quality of installation. It should also be said that it is better to install lightweight toilet models on dowels, since the fastenings may not support the significant weight of the product.

Experts in this field recommend placing the toilet on a special gasket, which you can make yourself from a sheet of old linoleum; rubber is also perfect for such purposes. To make a gasket, you need to place the product on a sheet of material, then trace its leg with a marker, pen or pencil. After this, cut out the gasket according to the markings.

You can use a utility knife or scissors. Plumbing equipment is placed on the floor and securely secured using dowels or fasteners. Fastening elements, in most cases, come with the toilet, but if you have a different situation, you can purchase them at any specialized store.

After making the gasket, you should mark the floor surface. To do this, you need to place the toilet in the intended installation location and outline it, after which you should apply sealant without going beyond the outline. It is better not to overdo it and apply a small layer of consumables.

A gasket must be installed on top of the sealant, which should adhere tightly after the sealant has dried. This design is durable and reliable, although in some cases it is permissible to install a toilet without a gasket.

Now you need to start drilling the holes.

To facilitate all future installation work, it is necessary to approach this operation with all responsibility. The gasket must be glued firmly and accurately to the installation site of the product, and the resulting holes must differ minimally from the drill in terms of diameter.

This is necessary so that the fasteners can then be used correctly, and reliable rubber gasket will become a buffer zone between the flooring and the toilet.

In some cases, it may be necessary not only to install plumbing equipment, but also to change its height by several centimeters. This need arises if there are several units of this equipment in the room, the last of which should be raised by 4 centimeters.

For these purposes, a wooden board is used to arrange the stand. It must be made in exactly the same way as a rubber or linoleum gasket, and then “planted” wooden product on the sealant, apply a layer of sealant on it and place a gasket on top of the resulting structure. If everything is done exactly according to the dimensions of the toilet seat, you will get a reliable design.

Holes for fasteners must be drilled directly into the spacer or stand. It is important to remember to tighten fasteners to installed toilet must be done very carefully. You cannot rush or overdo it here, as there is a possibility of significantly damaging the surface of the toilet seat.

Large metal dowels or special elements for installing plumbing fixtures are used as fasteners. Special elements are often supplied with the toilet. It should be said right away that the quality of contact between the product’s legs and the floor is the same when using any of the listed options.

Dowels must be inserted into the holes drilled in the gasket and hammered in place. After this, you need to install the plumbing equipment and secure it with fasteners. Be aware of the tightening force, which should not be excessive.

Now you need to connect the plumbing equipment to the sewer line. Special attention must be given to the corrugated pipe. Its sides must be covered with silicone compound. One of them must be connected to the main line, and the second to the outlet at the back of the toilet.

Contact area corrugated pipe the product and the line must be carefully treated with a silicone-based compound. In some cases, additionally use tape with metal coating. The last step in the installation of the toilet there will be connections to waterway. Here you only need to firmly screw the hose to the pipe. After this, the device can be used instantly.

Method No. 2: glue installation

If you don’t know how to fix a toilet to tiles without drilling or bolts, then the following information will probably be of interest to you. This method is very simple and does not require qualifications or extensive experience from the employee, but here you need to be patient, since the method is very time-consuming.

It takes about 14 hours for the epoxy adhesive used for plumbing installation to dry completely. This method is also used in the case of a smooth and even surface, since the difference in height will not allow for strong contact of the product with the floor covering. Like the first method, this one is used primarily for tiles.

The method is very simple to implement. First, you need to thoroughly clean the contact area from dust and dirt. It is also better to sand tiles to increase the adhesion of the material. After this, you need to degrease the contact surface with acetone or any other solvent.

Now you need to start making glue. In principle, it is possible to purchase a ready-made adhesive composition, but if your budget is small, it’s better to save money and do everything yourself. For preparation you will need 100 parts of ED-6 epoxy resin, 35 parts of hardener, 20 parts of solvent and 200 parts of cement. At this stage it is very important to maintain the correct proportions.

The epoxy resin must be heated to 50 degrees Celsius, after which the solvent must be poured into it, the next ingredient is the hardener, after which cement must be added to the mixture. During preparation of the composition, it is necessary to stir it constantly. As a result, a plastic and homogeneous mass should be formed. To enhance the effect, you should first lubricate the contact area with glue, and then apply the epoxy solution.

The composition that comes out under the pressure of the installed device must be immediately wiped off with a damp cloth. If the composition has been prepared according to the rules, then it can be used for no more than one and a half hours, since then it sets and loses its plasticity. The solution must be applied to the toilet leg so that the layer of the composition is 4 millimeters, and the area on which the composition was applied is at least 25 square centimeters.

Now you need to install the toilet in the right place and connect the corrugated pipe to the sewer system. As in the previous case, to seal the contact area of the corrugated pipe, it is necessary to use a silicone compound. Then you need to apply force and press the product to the floor as tightly as possible, and then leave it alone for 14 hours.

Connection to sewerage

During the entire period, it is not recommended to even touch the device, since you can move it out of place and have to repeat it all over again. Upon completion given period you just need to connect the product to the water main, and you can start using it. Now you know how to properly fix the toilet to the tiles.

In most cases this method used when it is necessary to mount the toilet on wooden base. Taffeta is a gasket made from durable types of wood, on which plumbing equipment will be installed. The thickness of the board from which the gasket is made should be 3 centimeters. It is carved from wood in the same way as in the two previous cases. After this, the gasket must be impregnated with drying oil to increase its protection from moisture.

Installation on taffeta

For stronger contact, it is necessary to install anchors on the rear side of the gasket. As practice shows, it is best to drive several nails in a checkerboard pattern. The nails should protrude approximately 3 centimeters. Before attaching the toilet to wooden floor, it is necessary to fill the niche for its installation with concrete, and then place a prepared gasket in it, which must be drowned in the solution so that it does not protrude above its level.

Then you need to let the solution dry, you will have to wait about 12 hours. The product is attached to the gasket using screws. Rubber washers must be placed under the fasteners. This is done in order to eliminate the possibility of damage to the surface of the toilet while tightening the fasteners. According to professionals in this field, it is better to treat the fasteners with graphite or grease so that if you need to remove them, you don’t have to put in extra effort.

It is also permissible to use rubber instead of wood, the thickness of which should be 1.5 centimeters.

In conclusion, it should be added that if you are not confident in your abilities, then it is better to trust the specialists. This way you will spend more money, but you will be confident in the quality of the installation of plumbing equipment.

How to fix a toilet to the floor: the most common installation methods

How to fix a toilet to the floor: 3 ways to install a toilet. Step-by-step instructions for installing plumbing equipment and recommendations from specialists.

Attaching the toilet to the floor: analysis of the 3 “correct” technological methods

Installation of plumbing equipment is carried out in strict accordance with building regulations and norms. Home craftsmen are often afraid of such work. This is used by service companies that charge very decent money for performing fairly simple operations. Meanwhile, fixing the toilet to the floor is quite accessible for self-execution event. It is only important to carefully familiarize yourself with existing work technologies, choose the most suitable one, and strictly follow all instructions.

Regardless of the chosen method of attaching the toilet, installation work begins with assembling the flush cistern. The device is assembled in accordance with the instructions and fixed in the place intended for it. Also, before installing the toilet, the water supply and drainage units must be prepared. There are several methods for attaching devices. The main selection criterion is the floor material on which the equipment will be installed. Let's take a closer look at the most common methods.

Method No. 1: installation on dowels

The most practical method to install the device with at the lowest cost energy and time. It is optimal for use on a flat, smooth base, since the slightest differences in height negatively affect the quality of flushing. It is preferable to use this fastening method for lightweight compact structures, since the fixation may not be entirely reliable. Plumbers advise installing the equipment on a special gasket, which you can easily make yourself from old linoleum or a sheet of thin rubber. The toilet bowl is installed on the workpiece and traced along the contour with a marker. After which, using a sharp knife or simply scissors, the gasket of the desired shape is cut out.

The device is fixed to the floor using dowels or special plumbing fasteners. Fasteners are usually included with new equipment. It can also be purchased in specialized stores

Now you need to mark. We “try on” the toilet in the place prepared for the equipment and trace its outline. We remove the device. Apply thin layer sealant and glue the gasket onto it. This design will be the most reliable, although some craftsmen prefer to do without a substrate at all. You can start drilling holes for fasteners. As practice shows, if you glue the gasket well and choose the diameter of the drill so that the holes for the fasteners are slightly larger than it, then further installation will be much easier. This is due to the fact that the rubber backing acts as a kind of “contact spot” for the floor and the device.

It happens that you need to not only fix the toilet to the floor, but also raise it a little. This is relevant if there are several devices in the apartment. Then the last one in the system needs to be raised by about 3-4 cm. In this case, use a piece of a two-inch board, which is used as a stand. It is cut exactly along the contour of the toilet and laid on the floor, with a rubber backing placed on top of it. All this is held together with sealant and forms a reliable and robust construction. We drill holes for fastenings directly along the gasket.

You must tighten the fastening on the base of the toilet very carefully. Excessive force may damage the ceramic material from which the device is made.

Long metal dowels or special plumbing fasteners can be used as fastenings. The latter usually come complete with new equipment. The quality of fastening is approximately the same, so both options can be used. We hammer the dowels into the holes prepared in the floor. We install the toilet and carefully screw it on. It must be remembered that if over-tightened, the ceramic from which the device is made may be damaged.

Method No. 2: glue installation

Of all the methods for fixing a toilet to the floor, this is the simplest, but at the same time the most time-consuming. It takes about 12-15 hours for the epoxy mixture, which is used as glue, to harden. This method can only be used on a smooth surface. It is most often used to secure equipment to floor tiles. The method is very simple to implement. First, both surfaces to be glued must be thoroughly cleaned of dust and debris. Floor tiles can be sanded down to make them rougher. This will improve the adhesion of the material. Surfaces are degreased with any solvent or acetone.

Prepare the glue. You can buy a ready-made epoxy compound or prepare it yourself. To do this, you need to take 100 parts of ED-6 epoxy resin, 200 parts of cement, 20 parts of solvent or plasticizer and 35 parts of hardener. The sequence of adding components to the solution is important. First, the resin is heated to 50C, a solvent is added to it, then a hardener and, at the very end, cement. The composition must be constantly stirred to form a plastic, homogeneous mass.

To ensure the toilet is securely locked in place, flooring prepare: clean for better adhesion and coat with a small layer of glue. Excess composition released under the weight of the equipment is immediately removed with a damp cloth.

A properly prepared adhesive mixture can be used within one and a half hours. We apply it to the base of the toilet so that the solution covers an area of at least 20 square meters. cm, and the layer thickness was at least 4 mm. We install the prepared equipment in the right place, aligning the sewer socket with the outlet, and forcefully press it to the floor. After which we leave the device for at least 12 hours. This period is necessary for the adhesive to harden. During this time, it is not recommended to even touch the toilet. Then we connect the equipment to the water supply and sewerage.

Method No. 3: fastening with taffeta

This method is most often used to install toilets on wooden floors. Taffeta is a pad of durable wood to which the equipment is attached. The thickness of the board from which the element corresponding to the shape of the toilet support column is cut should be 28-32 mm. To protect the part from dampness, it must be carefully treated with drying oil. To securely fasten it to the floor, anchors are installed at the bottom of the taffeta. The simplest option is nails driven in in a checkerboard pattern, which should protrude 2-3 cm from the part. The recess prepared for installing the toilet is filled cement mortar. Taffeta is sunk into it with anchors. As a result, it should be flush with the floor.

After approximately 12 hours, during which the solution completely dries, you can begin attaching the equipment. The device is fixed with screws. Rubber washers must be placed under their heads, which will prevent possible damage to the toilet frame when tightened. Experts advise lubricating the screws with grease or graphite before work so that later, if necessary, they can be easily unscrewed. Wood taffeta can be replaced with a rubber backing. It is cut out of sheet material with a thickness of 5 to 15 mm, perhaps even from an old rubber mat. Such a substrate should be 1-2 cm smaller than the toilet support stand.

Attaching a toilet to taffeta involves using a special wooden insert. The diagram shows all the elements of such fastening

The methods for attaching a standard toilet to the floor are varied. They differ significantly in complexity and time spent on installation work. It is important to choose the right fastening method. It depends on the material from which the floor in the room is made. You can carry out the installation work yourself, but if you have no experience or desire, it is better to turn to professionals. They will quickly and competently carry out all the work, guaranteeing long and flawless service of the new equipment.

Correctly attaching the toilet to the floor: 3 ways to fix the toilet to the floor

You can do proper fastening of the toilet to the floor yourself. Let's look at the technology for securing equipment in the three most common ways.

To properly install a toilet on tiles, follow our step by step instructions, equipped with photos and videos.

Working time: ~ 1 hour.
Total time: ~ 24 hours.

Preparing the room for installing a toilet

It is better to install a toilet in a completely renovated room, so as not to damage the plumbing. You must have a hole ready for the outgoing sewer pipe, as well as a water outlet for the drain tank.

Tools and materials required for proper installation

To install the toilet we will need the following tools and materials:

  1. Adjustable wrench
  2. Flexible hose
  3. Fum tape
  4. Pencil or felt-tip pen
  5. Yardstick
  6. Hammer
  7. Dowels and bolts (must be included with the toilet)
  8. Plumbing grease
  9. Liquid silicone
  10. Rubber spatula

How to properly install a toilet with your own hands

Step 1. Connection to the cistern

Shut off water access to the system. Unscrew the plug on the water outlet using an adjustable wrench. A faucet must be connected here. You can use an angle or straight tap according to your choice. Seal the threads on the tap with fum tape and screw the tap into the water outlet. If using an angle tap, screw it so that it faces down. Turn off the faucet valve.

Screw the flexible hose to the tap outlet. It is not necessary to use fum tape, since the design of the flexible supply hose includes a sealing rubber band.

Step 2. Marking the toilet installation guide

To install the toilet exactly in the middle of the toilet, measure the width of the room against the wall and mark the middle with a pencil. Do the same in the middle of the room and draw a line along two marks. This line will be our guideline, determining the direction correct installation toilet.

Step 3. Assembling the sewer drain

If necessary, supplement the sewer drain with an angled pipe (45-90 degrees) so that its opening faces the toilet outlet pipe at a smoother angle.

Advice: To make it easier to connect two pipes, use plumber's lubricant. Apply it to inner surface drain hole (lubricate the rubber O-ring) and outer part corner pipe that will fit into the hole.

The sewer drain can be connected to the toilet outlet in two ways:

  • hard plastic adapter;
  • flexible corrugation.

In both cases, when inserting the connector, use plumber's lubricant as indicated above.

Step 4. Preparing the base of the toilet and marking it on the tiled floor

Advice: Do not pre-connect the tank to the toilet. You will learn later in the article when and how to connect the tank to the toilet.

Take the base of the toilet and turn it upside down. The edge of the toilet support must be smooth and free of defects. Clean it if necessary with a sharp knife.

Place the toilet base on the floor at the installation location. Refer to the line you drew earlier (see step 2) to position the toilet correctly and exactly in the center of the toilet. Additionally, check the correct installation by measuring the distances from the toilet to the left and right walls with a tape measure.

Connect the toilet pipe to the drain system adapter and outline the perimeter of the toilet base with a pencil or felt-tip pen - this will help you install it in the future without additional measurements. Also mark the locations of the mounting holes on both sides.

Step 5. Attaching the toilet to the tile floor

Move the toilet aside and drill holes in the tile for fasteners. Use a special tile drill. The depth of the holes should be equal to the length of the dowels that come with the toilet. Drive plastic dowels into the holes drilled in the tiles.

Reinstall the toilet along the lines you drew and connect it to the sewer drain. Screw the metal screws with washers that come with the toilet into both mounting holes, but only halfway.

Step 6. Additional fastening of the toilet with liquid silicone

Raise the toilet 0.5-1 cm, place some supports in two or three places (use what you have on hand - plastic, pieces of tile, etc.). Very carefully insert white liquid silicone into the gap between the base of the toilet and the floor tiles. Do this around the entire perimeter of the toilet base. Lift the edges of the toilet with your hands and add silicone as you remove the stands. The silicone should be distributed evenly around the entire perimeter of the toilet base and create a generous “cushion”.

Lower the toilet and tighten the mounting screws completely by hand (without excessive force). Remove excess silicone that appears on the outside with a plastic spatula moistened with soapy water. Form a beautiful edging around the entire perimeter of the base.

You need to wait a few hours (see the silicone hardening time on the packaging), and only then continue to install the toilet.

How to install a toilet flush mechanism

On the main thread drain device put on the gasket and insert it into the technological hole of the drain tank. WITH reverse side Tighten the wide nut with your own hands - do not use tools to avoid splitting the tank.

Advice: We recommend installing a shut-off device that controls the flow of water into the flush tank after installing the flush tank on the toilet. This will make tightening the mounting screws more convenient - you will not be disturbed by the extra mechanism inside the tank.

When installing the shut-off device, check for burrs on the bottom of the device where the hose fits. Remove any rough edges to ensure a tight connection. Paste locking device into the hole intended for it in the tank and tighten it on the reverse side with a plastic nut. Again, do not use any tools; tighten the nut by hand.

How to install a flush cistern on a toilet

Once the silicone is completely cured and assembled drain mechanism tank, you can begin installing it on the toilet.

Between the flush cistern and the base of the toilet it is necessary to lay a soft gasket in the form of a ring (included with the toilet). Then slide the tank onto the toilet so that the holes for the tie screws on the toilet line up with the holes on the tank. The connecting screws should have a plastic flat washer and a rubber cone washer. Insert the mounting screws into the holes in the drain tank and use plastic nuts (horns) to tighten them on the other side. When tightening the screws, make sure the tank is horizontal.

Screw the flexible hose supplying water to the fitting at the drain tank. This connection does not require the use of fum tape, since the connection will occur through a rubber gasket.

The installation of the flush tank on the toilet is completed, you can open the tap and check the flow of water, as well as see and eliminate possible leaks in the system.

Place the lid on the drain tank so that all elements of the trigger mechanism fit into the hole. Screw the release button into the hole. Check the functionality of the button. At this stage, the installation of the toilet cistern is complete.

How to install a toilet seat and toilet seat

The simplest thing remains. Place the seat on the toilet and insert the mounting screws into the holes. Lightly tighten the screws on the back of the toilet with nuts. The toilet seat installation is complete.

Video lesson: How to properly install a toilet on a tiled floor in a toilet

The work is completed. You installed the toilet yourself and rest assured, you did it right!

Whether in a new apartment or an old one, finishing the bathroom is often done when the plumbing fixtures are either not yet there, or they are being dismantled in order to be replaced with new ones. IN empty room Naturally, it is easier to lay tiles on walls and floors, since nothing gets in the way.

Besides, standing appliances plumbing fixtures - bathtub, toilet, washbasin can simply be damaged during production finishing works. If laying tiles on the floor is done with standing toilet, then imagine how difficult it is to cut ceramic floor tiles, which are much thicker than wall tiles, in order to replicate the configuration of the toilet.

We will try to tell you how to install a toilet on tiles in our article.

In order to properly place the toilet on the tiles and connect it to the sewer and water supply system, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • toilet;
  • fan pipe or corrugation;
  • flexible hose, supply cold water to the toilet;
  • ball valve for cold pipeline;
  • sealing material for winding threaded connections;
  • silicone sealant;

  • drills for concrete and ceramic tiles.

The tools you need to stock up on are:

  • drill or hammer drill;
  • adjustable wrench;
  • several screwdrivers;
  • rubber spatula;
  • pencil;
  • hammer;
  • core

Installing a toilet on tiles can be done in different ways, depending on the type of toilet.

There is a closed mount and an open one. With the open type of fastening, the fastening bolts are located on the protruding part of the toilet base. Closed system The fastening is located inside the base of the toilet.

We fix the toilet using an open method

This method requires minimal effort and less time, but is inferior to the second method (closed) in terms of aesthetics.

The toilet is installed in its intended permanent location and marks are made on the tiles with a pencil in the holes intended for fastening.

It is important that the pencil is strictly vertical, otherwise a shift in the mark may result in you drilling holes that will not fit the mounting bolts.

In addition to markings for fastening, you need to trace the outline of the toilet base on the tiles.

After this, the toilet is moved to the side and holes are drilled in the places where the pencil marks are:

  • First, the glaze on the tile is scratched with a core so that the drill does not slip on the tile.
  • The first thing to use is a glass drill bit to go through the tiles.
  • Afterwards, a concrete drill is inserted into a drill or hammer drill and a hole of the required depth is drilled, depending on the size of the purchased dowels.

The finished hole must be cleaned of dust and filled with silicone sealant, which in this case acts as a waterproofing, preventing moisture from entering under the base of the toilet. Dowels are inserted into the drilled holes filled with sealant.

Before installing the toilet on tiles, A strip of sealant is applied along the previously outlined contour of the toilet, which will not allow water to penetrate under the base of the toilet.

Fastening elements - bolts, bushings or screws - are inserted into the mounting holes and tightened to the desired position. The mounting points are closed with plugs to give the toilet aesthetically pleasing and to protect the mounting bolts from moisture.

Excess silicone, which will inevitably come out under the weight of the toilet, must be removed using a rubber spatula or other available means.

Installing an internally mounted toilet

Before fixing the toilet to the tile, you must first make outlet holes to connect it to the sewerage system and to the water pipe.

The holes should be located as close as possible to the toilet being installed.

In the same way as when installing a toilet with an open mounting method, the outline of the base of the toilet is outlined on the floor tiles, and the marks of the mounting holes in the toilet are transferred to the floor.

The hidden fastening is placed on the floor, and marks are made for drilling holes, which are drilled in the same way as the previous method. The mount is installed on the floor and secured firmly with bolts. After this, the toilet bowl is installed empty onto the mount and secured through the side holes with bolts with the mount installed inside.

But there are situations when the floor cannot be drilled, since a heated floor system is installed under the tiles.

In this case, the question arises of how to glue the toilet to the tile. You can use:

  • liquid nails,
  • silicone glue,
  • epoxy resin with hardener.

In all cases, preparation of the tiles and the bottom plane of the toilet is required. The tiles and toilet are treated with sandpaper to provide roughness for better adhesion of the adhesive to the surfaces of the floor and toilet.

Connecting the toilet to the sewer system

A corrugated plastic pipe is used to connect the toilet to the sewer.

The corrugation allows you to change:

  • the distance from the toilet itself to the entrance to the sewer riser,
  • the angle of inclination depending on where the riser outlet is located - in the wall or in the floor.

Having a rubber membrane inside, the corrugation does not stick to the toilet outlet, it is tightly and hermetically connected to the toilet outlet, precisely through the membrane. The corrugation is also inserted into the sewer riser without the use of glue, using the existing special rim, which does not allow penetration into the room unpleasant odors and drainage.

After the toilet has been connected to the sewer system, you need to mount the toilet cistern to begin connecting cold water.

Plastic or silicone washers should be placed on metal bolts to prevent them from coming into contact with the faience of the toilet bowl.

Connection to water supply

Toilets have different connection systems to the water pipe:

  • external connection,
  • closed connection.

Despite the different connection methods, all joints must be sealed and prevent leaks.

At hidden system connection, a copper tube or a flexible water hose made of various materials can be used. If a copper tube is included with the toilet, then a flexible hose will have to be purchased separately.

The one that fits the toilet cistern requires special attention. water pipe. It can be either external or external internal thread. If the thread is internal, then you will need to install an additional adapter and use a sealing winding.

After the connection is made, the operation of the drain tank and the possibility of leaks are checked. If everything works fine, then tighten the fastening bolts all the way and install the toilet lid.
