House in the loft style: design, design, decoration and information on the main parameters of the style (100 photos). House in the loft style: creative chaos for creative individuals Loft interior in the house

If you are looking for what a loft is, you have probably already come across information about the history of this term or name. We read about the mid-20th century in New York and found out something about “ top part industrial building, converted for housing." Of course, this is all true; “loft” is generally translated from English as “attic”.

But we will talk about a slightly different meaning of this word - about a loft in a country house.

One of the options for implementing a loft in a private house, loft area ~12 m2

A loft can be called a small half-floor located above a part one-story house. This is a balcony inside the house, roughly speaking. It is also called the “sleeping mezzanine” or simply the “mezzanine floor”.

It's difficult to explain in words, it's easier to show a few examples. So, in the picture above you see a frame kitchen-living room. This is a one-story house with gable roof and a high ceiling in the living room area. In the rest of the house, the ceiling has the usual height, and the same loft is located upstairs.

Let's stand with our backs to the loft and look towards the windows:

The high ceiling in the kitchen-living room is a second light, and a loft is located above the chamber

A high ceiling and similar high windows are usually called. It’s as if there are two floors without overlap, which gives a kind of wow effect, increases the volume of the room, makes it bright. And this brings us to a simple conclusion:

Loft is inextricably linked with second light

Yes, in relation to the concept of a loft in a country house, you cannot do without a second light. At the same time, one cannot say the opposite, because a second light without a loft is quite possible - no one is forcing you to do it.

What's the idea here? And it’s all very simple: we have a house with a large living room, where such a high ceiling is very appropriate and beautiful. And a couple of bedrooms that don't need a lot of height. So why not put the space above your bedrooms to good use? So instead of a cold attic it turns out cozy loft. This is relevant, as a rule, either in houses with a small area, or in houses with more complex architecture, where one part is high and the other part is simple, one-story.

In general, sometimes the line between a loft and the second floor is quite thin, because if the house is large and there are many rooms, then there may be a living room with a high ceiling, and a full two-story part. For example, like in a house:

This is no longer a loft, but an ordinary (well, not at all ordinary, in fact) two-story house with an attic second floor and a kitchen-living room with second light. This is an example to understand the difference, now let's get back to the lofts.

The loft is usually not walled off

A distinctive feature of a loft is that most often it is fenced with simple railings rather than a blank wall. To illustrate this statement, let’s return to Smolyachkovo again, although there is a photo of the intermediate stage, but I think this is not so important:

I’ll show you another example of a loft, although it’s completely atypical, teetering on the verge of gaining the right to be called the second floor :)

Again, a living room with a high ceiling = second light, but it is oriented differently, in the middle of the house, the ceiling runs along the rafters and there are skylights, and a giant loft extends over the rest of the house. Probably not the best good example, still an extreme. Because usually a loft is needed only for...

Why do you even need a loft in your house?

In their “classic” form, lofts, like small “balconies” above the living room, are popular in guest houses and serve to accommodate additional beds.

The loft above the kitchen of the house in Vaskelovo will have a spiral staircase. Area ~20 m2

Simply put, guests are accommodated there :) Of course, you can use this additional space to your taste - equip workplace, a library, a chill-out area with hookahs and pillows (which, by the way, is planned in Vyborg), with enough imagination.

It turns out that the loft kills two birds with one stone: it gives you a cool high ceiling in the living room and extra space.

How to get there?

For a loft, of course, you need a staircase.

This can be a compact solution in the form of an elegant spiral staircase, or a full-fledged staircase leading upstairs directly from the living room or, for example, from the hallway.

Unfortunately, I have only three photographs of the spiral staircase, and even then only during the installation process:

The staircase is beautiful, but not the most comfortable; it’s not suitable for a full second floor. But the loft is not the second floor, it is used in a completely different way and such a solution can be considered.

As you can see, everything above is fine. Moreover, additional heating is not provided in a regular loft; warm air rises from the living room.

A similar question was asked to the owner of a house with a loft; I will quote his response letter:

About the loft. With a normal heating and ventilation system (like mine, with a recuperator), there is no difference. By definition, it cannot be cold there - after all, it is very open in overall volume, and heat goes up according to the laws of physics. It goes very slowly, because... heated floors, not radiators - therefore there is a very small difference in the temperature of the air and the heat source (floor). It can be rather hot in summer. But I repeat again: if there is good ventilation, there should be no problems. And the thermal insulation is 250 mm, i.e. the heat cannot penetrate into the house. Neither through the walls-roof, nor through the air flow. The house is always the temperature you want. And it’s the same everywhere.

Summary: when correct system heating and ventilation, you get an extra 20 square meters and architectural delights for free. Excellent + for a children's or guest bedroom. The only thing is: if they are yelling downstairs, it is impossible to sleep there. Yes, and running up the stairs - I am a principled opponent. But 1 time in the morning and 1 time in the evening, even I agree.

Instead of a conclusion

Is it worth making a loft in your home? You decide.

But if you want a one-story house with a truly beautiful living room, it’s time to think about a second light. And where there is second light, there is loft;)

What is a loft? Is this an exception to the rule, breaking stereotypes, unwillingness to obey generally accepted laws? Probably everything together. Resistance to imposed dress codes, shapes and sizes. This style is acceptable for those who see an extraordinary space on a gray concrete wall, for those who know how to live non-residential premises, create comfort with the help of retro devices and undisguised pipelines. A loft-style house is housing that gives a feeling of freedom.

The word “loft” refers to the upper floors of industrial premises, converted into housing or offices. To understand, or rather feel the essence and distinctive features of the style, it is worth turning to its origin.

The loft genre has American roots. Due to the prevailing unfavorable economic circumstances, the owners of plants and factories located in the center of New York began to move production out of the city, and rented out the vacated premises at affordable prices for art workshops.

Without changing the design conditions, the owners of the workshops inhabited the rooms, chaotically filling them with furniture, household items, arranging work corners, places of rest and living. This is how the loft style design appeared.

Tall, spacious rooms began to attract not only artists, but also people with good material income who knew how to think creatively and perceive new things. Not only bohemians, but also wealthy citizens began to settle in loft houses.

Features of the layout of housing in the original loft style can be considered:

  • large room sizes;

  • lack of partitions;
  • high ceilings;
  • a large amount of free space.

The design was determined by the following characteristic features:

  • maintaining the rough finish of production premises;
  • filling rooms with furniture and objects belonging to different styles;
  • mandatory functionality of all interior elements;
  • lack of decoration.

The popularity of lofts in the 21st century, which requires high level self-organization, mobility, understanding of laws and patterns is quite understandable. The desire for emancipation, the lack of following certain rules and canons, the possibility of expressing personal tastes, desires, and creative ideas are the psycho-emotional component of this style.

Interesting modern house designs in the loft style

Over time, any genre undergoes changes. Modern buildings, corresponding to this direction, are separate buildings with different layouts. The proposed photos of loft-style houses show a lot of different projects. These can be plastered whitewashed rectangular buildings with a ground floor where garages and technical rooms are located. The buildings are modest and restrained, white color creates an atmosphere of cleanliness and freshness.

There are many options for buildings lined with brick that imitates old masonry. They reek of the romance of the past. They are perceived as timeless mansions. Projects of houses covered with boards are offered. The board is laid horizontally or vertically (but always in one direction), visually associated with a shield. This makes the buildings neat and collected. The board is not painted; a protective coating is applied to preserve the structure of the wood.

Loft house designs may also contain balconies, terraces, and verandas. In this style, these architectural parts of buildings look like platforms with or without fencing, fulfilling a certain functional purpose. Options for buildings where the entrance to the house is not on the front side of the building are considered interesting.

Characteristic Features modern style are:

  • flat roofs of buildings (there are high gable roofs, but this is a departure from the style);
  • large panoramic windows;
  • lack of rounded shapes in architecture;
  • discreet design;
  • functionality of all elements;
  • open communications, clearly contrasting with the design of the premises.

The frame of such buildings is made of steel or reinforced concrete. The buildings are strong and durable.

Helpful advice! If you want to buy a house in the loft style, then you should choose an option that adheres to all the basics of this direction. Changing the shape of the roof, wide round steps, carved fences, etc. deprive the building of the charm inherent in this style.

Features of using the loft style in wooden houses

Is it possible to use the loft style for wooden buildings? Despite the mass of projects proposed by developers that are positioned as lofts, we can say with confidence - no. We can only talk about elements of style. A wooden house, frame or log, does not have flat roof, since this is not technically feasible. Installation is problematic in such houses (and generally impossible in log houses). panoramic windows. In the best case, if the load-bearing basis of the building is a frame, you can make a wall entirely of glass.

Due to the specifics of construction technology, the height of wooden buildings also has limitations. There are projects where a wooden house is built as a two-story house, but there is no solid ceiling between the floors. Its role is played by beams, which are elements of style and support the structure. Visually, these elements limit space, which contradicts the laws of style.

If we omit the basic architectural requirements, then it is quite possible to build wooden building with a minimum of partitions, decorate the walls in a loft style using boards, stone or wallpaper (if the surface allows). You can fill the rooms with appropriate furniture and ultimately organize stylish and comfortable housing.

The exterior of a wooden building should not have:

  • carved and figured parts;
  • windows and entrance doors non-standard shape(rectangular only);
  • multi-colored elements, including roofing - white, brown (and its shades) are allowed, gray is possible.

The exterior design of the building should show a desire to imitate an industrial facility.

Internal elements made of rough shapes processed wood: boards-steps of the stairs with a fence in the form of a board made of slats, wide ceiling beams.

Helpful advice! Planning construction wooden house using characteristic features loft style, it is worth paying special attention to the engineering aspect at the design level. Safe communication in terms of fire safety and sanitation in such a building is quite problematic.

Patterns of creation interior design of loft style houses

Bringing the rough and the pleasant to harmony is the main task that needs to be accomplished when creating the interior of private houses in the loft style. It is better to leave brick and cinder block masonry exposed. It is recommended to paint the ceiling beams in dark color so that they become more expressive. On monotonous plastered walls you can paste wallpaper with a print in the form of a dilapidated wall or imitating old boards.

Floors in houses of this style must be wooden. Tiles, linoleum and laminate with pure color shades, straight lines, tight joints can negate all design efforts, disrupting harmony. It is not advisable to use a plinth. If you can’t do without it, you should make it as inconspicuous as possible, merging with the walls.

There are no special requirements for furniture. It can be modern, old, antique, but preferably expensive and of high quality. A classic heavy sofa with carved oak legs would be accompanied by a glass table with elegant metal supports. The shelving will complement the office.

There are three ways to divide a room into zones:

  • use the layout, i.e. wall projections, window locations, etc.
  • using furniture, arranging it according to its intended purpose;
  • using lighting, color shades walls or floor.

There should be little furniture in the premises. Clutter and fullness of space is a gross violation of the rules for decorating houses of this style. Significant amounts of textiles are also not recommended. Bedspreads, pillows, blankets must be made of natural material; the use of prints and designs is not allowed. It is prohibited to cover windows with curtains, drapes, curtains. If you need to close the room from prying eyes, it is better to use blinds.

In the photo of the interior of private houses, you can choose how creative options interior design, more restrained, but no less interesting.

How to create a modern home inDIY loft style

What to do if the house you live in is decades old, and its architecture and layout are hopelessly far from the modern loft style? And these are exactly the conditions in which you want to live... You can fix a lot of things with your own hands. And the first thing to start with is to tear down the partitions.

Facade decoration, interior design, basic elements of style. How to do the finishing yourself.

This is a cardinal decision, it requires a technical assessment by experts, determining the functionality of the walls (load-bearing or just partitions), making changes to the project or creating a new one. If it is not possible to remove all partitions, it is recommended to remove one interior partition. The result will be large room, which can be equipped in the desired style.

Helpful advice! Reconstruction of a building for the purpose of furnishing a loft house should only be undertaken if the ceiling height is at least 300 cm. Otherwise, it will not be possible to create much open space, which means that all design efforts will be in vain.

A staircase can serve as a significant interior element. She must have clear geometric shapes: wooden or metal frames, rectangular steps. The fence should be created only for its intended purpose - safety of movement; decoration is inappropriate here.

Stairs for a loft-style home, like the decoration of the walls, should resemble the atmosphere of an industrial room. Staircases It’s easy to do it yourself if you have timber, solid wood and tools for sawing and grinding. Ability to use welding machine will allow you to make a metal staircase.

You can open communications: remove boxes, remove decorative grilles, false canisters. It is better to paint the pipes not to match the walls, but with paints that, if they do not create contrast, then noticeably highlight the elements of heat, water and gas supply.

Pictures on the floor, scales with weights, natural fleecy rugs of small sizes, laid only in places where household members step barefoot - simple details, creating a real loft.

How to easily and without significant costs make renovations in loft style

Major repairs with redevelopment, replacement of cladding layers, pipes, windows or even window openings able to change style. But there are not always funds for such repairs. You can create a loft style in your home without significant expenses. To do this, you need to examine the material from which the walls of the house are built. If it is masonry, achieving the desired design of the walls is quite simple: you need to remove the plaster and smooth out any protruding bulges.

If this option is not suitable, you need to cover the walls with boards. Available for sale sufficient quantity products that, when applied, will make this material “old”. If it is impossible to get to the beams or there are none at all, you can clean the ceiling down to the concrete (or down to the plaster without layers of paint) and make a lattice with cells of about 1 m² from a small cross-section of timber, tinted it with a darker, or, conversely, white color, which depends on the base of the ceiling.

With this type of repair from doorways it will not be possible to get rid of it, therefore, you need to make new doors in the loft style or subject existing structures to processing to achieve the desired effect - “aging”. Glass doors in a metal frame look organic. If there is swing structures doors, they will have to be replaced.

Additional living spaces should not be ignored. To create a loft-style balcony design, you should use the same types of design as for the main rooms. You can imitate masonry by using decorative facing brick. You can highlight the ceiling with the help of lamps used to illuminate industrial premises by laying open wiring.

A simple bookcase with a hint of roughness made from metal frame, consisting of wooden shelves, will pleasantly coexist with a low armchair and a light table with a white polished surface. Furniture on the balcony should occupy no more than ¼ of the space. The principle of minimalism and the functionality of all elements for a given room is no less relevant.

Materials used in the design of facades of loft-style houses

Loft-style houses are classified as inexpensive. To organize such facades, a presentable finish is not required. The main types of materials used when decorating the facades of houses in this style:

Brick cladding is an old, reliable and proven method. The emergence of new types of this material has expanded design possibilities: “torn”, “old” brick, with mineral chips, etc. are used depending on the desired effect. Loft style brick is the most common facing material.

Concrete and plaster ( textured plaster not typical for houses of this type) create smooth and uniform surfaces that need to be painted.

Metal or plastic facade panels can be considered new elements in the design of building facades. They have strict geometric shapes, the surface can be smooth or embossed. Houses sheathed in this way look like modern industrial buildings or beautifully decorated trailers.

Slat systems are also a relatively new way of cladding loft houses. Their peculiarity is that traces of fastenings are not visible visually. Simplicity, conciseness, straightforwardness create the necessary perception of the building.

Wooden slats are easier to make. You can prepare them yourself if you have a simple woodworking machine, for example, a thickness planer. However, slats require not only preliminary, but also constant treatment during the operation of the house, since wood without an appropriate protective layer is susceptible to precipitation and temperature.

Metal rack systems are more durable, but the method of attaching them is quite complex. The slats are placed at intervals, which allows the base material used in the construction of the house to “breathe”.

Helpful advice! When choosing a facing material, it is necessary to take into account its compatibility with the main construction raw materials. A metal lath system is not suitable for a building made of aerated concrete, and the facade of a cinder block house should not be decorated with a wooden lath.

Specifics of lighting for country houses in the loft style

Lighting plays a special role in creating a true loft style design. During the daytime, the room is filled with a stream of natural light, provided large sizes windows The artificial lighting system has a triple function:

  • design creation;
  • zone delimitation;
  • actual lighting.

One of the successful design solutions is the placement of spotlights on the beams. They must match the rough decor of the beams, so light bulbs with metal frames or closed shades are often used. Series connection of ceiling lights and open wiring give the room stylistic expressiveness. The lamps are positioned so that the boundary of the illuminated area is clearly visible.

The large area that this implies is an excellent opportunity to use many lighting fixtures

It is optimal to use LED lamps, scattering light close to daylight when choosing the appropriate glow temperature.

Apply and pendant lamps, the design of which also involves geometric shapes and a lack of decoration. Chandeliers placed in the center of the room cause a certain difficulty in choosing. This is where Edison lamps can come to the rescue. They themselves have an interesting shape, and additional shades are not required.

It is almost impossible to buy a chandelier that matches the loft style. However, with minimal knowledge and ability to use power tools self-production is quite a feasible task. Side lighting fixtures and pendant devices located in different areas cannot be of the same type.

Old-style sockets and switches, which, however, are not so easy to purchase today, will be an excellent addition to the design.

Loft style photo with image in various ways Electric lighting will suggest the most unexpected options for placing lamps and other lighting fixtures.

Loft style cottage:internal eclecticism and unity of landscape design

To highlight the design features of a project in the style of a loft cottage, it is necessary to take the following conventional differences as a basis:

  • this building always has two floors;
  • the architecture of the cottage is more sophisticated;
  • the building has all the necessary communications;
  • cottage villages are most often located in picturesque countryside;
  • there must be a small adjacent plot of land.

Based on the above, we can only talk about the features of the external design of the building and its place in the overall landscape of the site.

The design of the cottage and its color scheme are of decisive importance in the development of personal space. Paths, areas adjacent to the main building, hard surfaces should either repeat or have a color close to the design of the building. If the structure is white, the hard surface may have a grayish coloration; brown brick cladding involves covering with natural stone of similar shades, etc.

The vegetation is predominantly without variegated and bright colors. Wide trimmed lawns, a minimum of bushes and trees. Tall plants are concentrated in one place; freedom of space should be ensured in the garden plot.

Additional buildings (gazebos, canopies) are made mainly from the same material or are similar to the cladding of the cottage.

If eclecticism dominates in the interior design of buildings, then in landscape design all elements must correspond to each other.

Helpful advice! When decorating a plot in a loft style, it is better to use perennial plants. Among them there is big choice decorative deciduous, non-flowering representatives of the flora.

Advantages and disadvantages of one-story loft-style houses

The recognition and popularity of the loft style are determined primarily by its main positive features:

  • loft home design is always individual and unique;
  • This is an opportunity to show creativity;
  • does not require large financial expenses;
  • absence extra items, restraint and minimalism create comfort and facilitate care;
  • free space promotes proper rest and relaxation;
  • use of natural, environmentally friendly materials.

Listing everything undeniable advantages of this modern style, it is necessary to note its disadvantages:

  • lack of partitions, large area of premises create problems during heating season, since the building takes a long time to warm up and it is difficult to maintain heat in it;
  • large window sizes promote weathering;
  • the costs of paying for utilities are significant;
  • This interior style is not perceived by everyone. It is especially unacceptable for people with conservative views.

Helpful advice! It is recommended to involve household members in the development of the loft style. Compromises will lead to a positive result: everyone in the house will be comfortable and cozy.

Loft style house:tips and warnings from design experts

A photo of a loft-style design is a demonstration of the unlimited creative imagination. It often happens that making additions to a ready-made idea or the desire to do it as creatively as possible has the opposite effect: instead of style, chaos appears.

A few tips from design experts will help you avoid design mistakes:

  1. If the room is relatively small, placing furniture in the center to designate a specific area will significantly reduce the space.
  2. Delineating zones using a long cabinet will also lead to a visual reduction in free space.
  3. Special lighting is required for each zone. If there are no conditions for hanging stationary lamps, you can install floor lamps.
  4. Large carpets reduce space, so it is better to use medium-sized products.
  5. The introduction of an exclusive must be dosed, since an overabundance destroys the idea. For example, stools in the form of inverted tubs are quite enough; experimenting with a table will be unnecessary.
  6. Replacing plank flooring with linoleum will significantly change the overall perception of the room's design. Equally, you can replace the board only with brushed parquet.
  7. Abundance small parts overloads the interior.

The loft style, like no other direction, does not accept templates. To live in spacious rooms created by one’s own imagination, taking into account personal taste preferences, is the key to comfort and relaxation. Large volumes expand inner freedom, and energetically charging streams of light fill it with meaning and content.

In recent years, a rare issue of the magazine “Ideas for Your Home” has been published without an interior designed in the loft style. From this we can conclude that this style meets the needs of metropolitan residents who dream of functional and modern interior.

1. Combination of loft and eco-style

Architect Ksenia Bobrikova. Photo: Evgeniy Kulibaba

In the design of the representative zone, traditional signs of the loft style (undisguised auxiliary structures) are combined with natural warmth. Thus, the wall is decorated with two columns made of logs left after dismantling a hundred-year-old log house, which the author of the project personally sanded and varnished. They are attached to the mortgages on the ceiling with special metal loops. And the space between them fits well with a painting depicting a bullfight, painted especially for the interior by Sergei Bobrikov, in bright colors typical of pop art. It stands out against the background of muted tones, quite simple, but comfortable furniture.

The finishing of one wall imitates brickwork, the second is covered with fine-grained plaster. Lamps on an undisguised auxiliary structure locally illuminate individual areas and emphasize rough textures.

2. “Male” loft

The black brick wall emphasizes the “masculine” character of the interior. The brutality is visually softened by a wall panel with a characteristic natural texture, a fire in the fireplace, a bright yellow pouf and plants (floor and indoor). hanging planters), which beat dinner Zone.

3. Loft aesthetics: brick walls and metal shelving

Architects Mark Safronov, Natalia Sirbu. Photo: Ilya Ivanov, Yuri Afanasyev

The owner of this one is a girl who works in the fashion industry. The loft aesthetics here are set not only by the design of the walls (white brickwork in the partition between the windows) and the floor, but also by the industrial-looking shelving made of wood and metal with characteristic factory elements - brutal metal strips with studs that line the edges of the shelves and the frames of the sections with drawers .

4. Photo wallpaper in the loft interior

Designers Pavel Alekseev, Svetlana Alekseeva. Visualization Pavel Alekseev

In this case, it is noteworthy that a fragment of a brick “passage” wall in the center is placed in a metal frame and under glass, depicting rusty metal and concrete.

5. Two-level loft

Design Bureau Totaste.studio. Visualization: Max Zhukov

Two-level - space to realize the fantasies of the authors on the loft theme. To create the appropriate atmosphere, the walls were partially tiled clinker tiles and finished with concrete-like plaster. But initially they decided to leave the concrete ceiling in its original form. The visual image for creating the second tier was a bridge in San Francisco with thin curved metal railings and a spiral staircase.

6. Raw textures and exposed structures

Project manager Elena Mizotkina, designer and visualizer Elena Danilina

To create a brutal atmosphere in a small living room of 9 m2, intended for a young man, the authors used a restrained palette, raw textures and naked architectural structures. Pay attention to the successful “finds” of the designers - a “sloppy” painted surface concrete walls and ceiling, as well as a mezzanine for storage made of perforated metal sheets and corners.

7. Public area

Architect and photographer Alexey Bykov

Loft style public area for young people whose work is related to art. According to the architect, he used only “honest” (without imitations) materials that demonstrate their texture and properties. These are warm colors of brick, wood, textiles made from natural fibers in furniture upholstery. The author also chose to free the old walls (the apartment is located in a house from the beginning of the 20th century) from layers of previous plaster and leave the authentic brickwork exposed.

8. “Chocolate” loft

Architects-designers Olesya Shlyakhtina, Sergey Vetokhov, visualization by the authors of the project

The wall decoration is made of Dutch brick-like tiles, which emphasizes the color of details made of brass, bronze and black painted metal, and also goes well with the overall “chocolate” palette of the interior. Looks impressive and ceiling lamp Spider by Serge Mouille with three long rotating and bending arms.

9. Loft with concrete wall

An original idea: a brutal wall made of panels that imitate a concrete surface with a relief texture and traces of formwork, serves as an excellent backdrop for ordinary things (a projector, a skateboard and a snowboard), turning them into a spectacular art object.

10. Rough textures and “soft” accents

Designer Natalya Maksimenko. Photo by Alexey Lukichev

The high concrete ceiling was lightly sanded and coated with clear varnish. Its surface does not press due to the light finishing of the walls and the white “shadow” from the arched window, which visually stretches the space vertically. The rough textures characteristic of the loft style were softened with textile upholstery on the sofa, decorative pillows and a faux fur blanket.

11. Bright furniture in an industrial space

Designer Nina Romanyuk. Visualization by Design Studio Ideas

In the living room, against the backdrop of brickwork, a red sofa, yellow pillows and shelves sounded expressive. An additional detail that emphasizes industrial character interior, steel watch in steam punk style with an open mechanism.

12. Synthesis of loft and Scandinavian minimalism

Illustrates the synthesis of loft (a finish that imitates rough Construction Materials) And Scandinavian minimalism(natural colors, straightforward furniture compositions). The window sill area was interestingly played out, which turned into an open bookcase and, at the same time, a bench where you can sit comfortably for reading.

13. Traditional loft with phytowall

Designer Ksenia Eliseeva. Photo: Vitaly Ivanov

The interior contains traditional loft style features: concrete surfaces, unplastered but painted brick, a ceiling lined with black stripes of bus lights. And the role of the main accent is given to the phytowall, the greenery of which softens the “harsh” aesthetics of the living room. Several round niches were also filled with the same stabilized moss.

14. Combination of the incongruous: concrete ceilings and floral photo wallpaper

Designers: Natalya Tsetsulina, Maria Malyshkina. Photo: Artyom Semyonov

And it can rightfully be called floral. The author's concept is to use mutually exclusive stylistic techniques. Thus, concrete ceilings with exposed electrical wiring coexist peacefully with the “rose garden” on photo wallpaper and decorations reminiscent of garden pergolas, and Ilyich’s open light bulbs are friends with a glamorous crystal chandelier.

15. Unity of opposites in the loft interior

Design and visualization: Oksana Balabukha

Brutal materials (plaster to look like concrete, aged tiles to look like brick) contrast with glossy surfaces (floors, furniture facades). Please note that the designer selected an art object to decorate the space concrete column, continuing the theme of the unity of opposites. For creation positive mood"blocks" answer yellow color.

16. Loft with a “stamp of time”

Project manager Irina Goncharova, designers Anatoly Kostenko, Elena Lobatskaya. Photo: Vitaly Nefedov

The living room bears the “imprint of time” inherent in a real loft, and also demonstrates an unusual mix of several styles. For example, a white column will not fit into a loft style, but thanks to its bronze tinting, it organically coexists with pendant lamps and exposed electrical wiring.

17. Natural wood tones and bright color accents

Designers: Ivan Korvegin, Nikolay Miroshnichenko

The color scheme of the interior fully meets the requirements of loft aesthetics. The base is natural shades of wood, as well as sanguine, ocher and white. And bright colors (blue, blue, red) act as accents. Absence historical context(old plastered walls and brickwork) are replaced modern materials(brick tiles). The chosen theme is also supported by such an attribute of the industrial premises as exposed wiring.

18. Loft interior built on contrasting colors

Design and visualization: Alexey Zhukov

In this representative area, the cool color scheme of the furniture contrasts well with the warm shade of the tiles to resemble aged brick.

19. Combination of industrial loft style and vintage furniture

Design and visualization: Alexander Savinov

IVD No. 4/2015 This interior organically combines the industrial style of a loft and vintage furniture. The brick walls became a good background for the exhibition of black and white photographs and art objects.

20. Stylish loft in a brick “Stalin” building

Another example: a living room in a brick “Stalin” building, where it was possible to preserve the authentic historical environment. The layout, textures and materials correspond to the spirit of the loft, and every non-standard detail fits organically into the general composition. The old red brick walls were cleared of layers and restored. Here and there there were gaps in the masonry that had to be filled modern bricks, which differ in color from previous bricks with original marks. The furniture is made from natural materials (or natural upholstery), which have pleasant tactile properties and are pleasing to the eye.

The interior of a home in the loft style is one of fashion designs modernity. Architectural style, which does not accept clear standards, arose thanks to the creative layer of the population of New York, when, for a number of reasons, artists, directors, singers, actors and other representatives of bohemians acquired small industrial premises as their homes.

To understand what a loft-style house is, what attracts the attention of the interior in the spirit of creative chaos of creative individuals, you need to know its features, design rules and subtleties of furniture selection.

Peculiarities

In translation, “loft” means “attic”. In fact, before this was a conversion of industrial housing, the comfort of which was limited to the presence of a kitchen, a bathroom and a bathroom. Today it is a way of stylistics, hinting at the creative nature of the owner of the house, This is one of the elite types of design, for which houses of one or two floors are specially built. This is a mixture of old and new: rough production materials or their imitation with ultra-modern technology, metal, glass, designer furniture.

The style differs from the usual understanding of stylistics deliberate rudeness. In it you can see elements of other design trends brought together. At the same time, the unity of details is surprisingly successful, be it graffiti, abstract paintings placed directly on the floor, or minimalist furniture.

The main distinctive feature of the loft style, which immediately catches the eye, is open plan. There are no rigid partitions delineating the boundaries of space, as well as clear zoning in the usual sense. Unobtrusive division of the room into functional areas carried out using techniques that do not violate the concept of the loft style.

Distinctive features

This style is quite recognizable thanks to some decorative and constructive techniques, Among which it is worth noting:

  • abundance luminous flux, filling the windows of the rooms due to large windows;
  • deliberate roughness of the cladding using brick, stone and plaster;
  • demonstration of unfinished wall surfaces;
  • the presence of visible pipes and beams, imitation of industrial communications, contrasting in tone with the main decoration of the premises;

  • the mass of free space formed due to the absence of partitions;
  • atypically high ceilings;
  • a creative approach to the selection of each non-standard accessory;
  • moderation of the existing furniture in each room;
  • emphasis on functionality, design, not lacking decorative elements, conspicuous.

Loft is a style of freedom-loving people with a non-standard type of thinking. It is unique, allows you to express creative imagination starting from the moment of construction, be it “ecoloft”, the usual design for a production type of premises or stylization. This is always a rough interior decoration, harmoniously combined with elements of comfort. The design implies the creation of an extraordinary production atmosphere, an industrial ambience inherent in former production facilities.

Construction and exterior design of buildings

A distinctive feature of building a house in the loft style is the geometric clarity of the building and its characteristic rectangular shape. Sometimes the asymmetry of the building is visible from the side. The entrance to the room is not always located at the front of the house. To keep the style as close as possible to natural environment, The facade is made of natural-colored brick. The color palette of the finish is predominantly gray, brown tones. Materials for decorating facades are wood, metal (slat and lattice systems).

The characteristic shape of the roof is designed in such a way to prevent snow accumulation. It can be gable, flat, and is often covered with environmentally friendly copper sheets that are resistant to atmospheric precipitation and convenient for roof cladding. The loft style is alien to pretentious decorative elements: everything involved in the construction is subject to strict functionality. Cement, sand, metal and brick are used as frame materials.

Architectural appearance Loft-style houses are distinguished by the presence of huge windows, which must be the entire height of the walls, distinguished by their large width. If the frame is symmetrical, the location of the windows can be asymmetrical, it depends on the wishes of the owner of the house. More often when planning two-story building the windows are placed symmetrically one above the other.

The maximum permissible number of floors of a house should not be more than two. In this case, brick columns may be located below. When designing a house according to all the rules, the sketch should resemble a small industrial facility, slightly decorated as a residential building.

Interior Design

Anyone can design the interior space of a house in a loft style. To create it you do not need large investments if you do the finishing yourself. Design in a design bureau will cost a tidy sum, especially for interior decoration: a sketch project alone can cost 100-135 thousand rubles. This is without architectural and constructive solutions, landscape and exterior.

It's worth keeping in mind: inner space such an interior suits certain individuals, among which we can note:

  • creative elite (representatives of bohemia);
  • the youth;
  • people on a limited budget.

Finishing

A loft is a case where rough combinations of interior items are needed for harmony. It is worth choosing as a basis industrial style, in which you can show slight negligence. It is important that at least one of the rooms has beams or their imitation.

Emphasizing dilapidation and unfinished conditions is only beneficial: wooden beams can be bought at any hardware store, they are an ideal ceiling decoration. To decorate windows, you can purchase blinds, although according to the canons of style, windows should not have any design.

You can’t do without wall cladding, which can be used as a combination different materials, having a relief texture with imitation of brickwork. You can select one or two planes brickwork or leave them concrete without finishing.

If you don't want to expose the walls, it is worth pasting the surfaces textured wallpaper , for example, imitating rough logs, a dilapidated wall. This way you can zone the space, indicating the idea of style. It is important not to overdo it brick inserts: if there are children in the house, it is worth limiting creativity to the decoration of one wall, smoothing out the originality of the material with plain coverings in the form of wallpaper on the other three planes.

Flooring must be made of wood: plank floors look better. If you use laminate for finishing, the appearance of the interior is simplified. In this case, the texture can be matte or glossy if the floor is varnished. If there floor plinth, it is preferable that it matches the wall and does not stand out against the general background.

To zone the space, use three design techniques: you can take the existing projections of a particular room as a basis, make them using furniture, or unobtrusively delimit the room using different shades and prints of wall cladding.

Furniture

The furniture inherent in the loft style is minimal and is located in such a way as not to block the space. The original design rule of this style is the technique of mixing furniture: it can be old or new, but it must be expensive, emphasizing the status of the owners of the house. This can be a combination of different styles, for example, retro and minimalism, or unity with high-tech style. The law of eclecticism applies here. If desired and in a good location, an English wardrobe with curved legs and a glass side table will look harmonious in the room.

The style does not pursue the novelty of upholstered furniture, but cannot “breathe” without a state-of-the-art audio and video system. In contrast to the industrial-like exterior of the home, the interior decor welcomes different shades of the color palette. Of these, the darkest are the tones of audio and video equipment. Often the space is decorated with white furniture (especially emphasizing the kitchen and guest areas). In addition, light gray, metallic shades of furniture, and wood tones are held in high esteem.

Lighting

A distinctive feature of the loft style is the maximum degree of illumination of the space. This is partly facilitated panoramic glazing. The main emphasis is on natural lighting. If it is not enough, the ceiling of the room is decorated with a light lamp with a soft diffused light flux, the temperature of which should be as close as possible to natural daylight.

An excellent decorative solution for lighting design is to decorate the beams with spotlights, placing them on the ceiling in such a way as to zone the functional areas of the area as profitably as possible.

It is advisable that the design of the lamps matches the rough decor of the ceiling. These can be light bulbs in the form of a curved pipe, lamps framed with metal wire, laconic LEDs with warm light and closed lampshades.

Textile

In design creative style It is important to use natural materials. It could be knitted plaid fabric, natural cotton, satin, leather. Often, to give an atmosphere of home comfort, certain areas of the space are accented with long-pile carpeting, hinting at the delicate taste of the owners of the home. Woolen capes and laconic decorative pillows, often without patterns, made in muted contrasting shades are required.

Disadvantages of the direction

An extraordinary loft has several negative nuances:

  • due to the open layout, such a room is difficult to heat;
  • cold materials are used in the work; heat is often ventilated due to the huge windows;
  • due to the large space, the cost of utilities in such a house significantly exceeds the cost in conventional buildings;
  • Such an interior is difficult for conservative people with established habits and pedantry to maintain.

To create a loft-style interior design correctly, you should not overload it with an abundance of small details: there should not be a lot of things, each of them speaks of its importance. If you want to improve the style a little, it is important to do this in doses, otherwise there will be no trace left of the main idea.

Take note of a few tips:

  • in rooms with a small area, you should not move the furniture to the center, wanting to designate the guest area in a standard way: this will visually reduce the freedom of space, which is unacceptable;
  • if it is important to distinguish between two zones (for example, bedroom and guest), place a closet between them if its length is short;
  • don’t forget to fill the room with lighting: the central one will not be sufficient for each zone, it’s worth using each functional area ceiling, wall, floor lamps of different shapes, designs and sizes;
  • You can accent brick walls with posters, road signs and abstract paintings, simply by placing them, for example, against the wall on a stand or floor;

  • buying to plank floor carpeting, choose medium-sized rectangular canvases: this will visually increase the area of the space;
  • if you want something exclusive, you should add an unusual table to the interior, for example, in the form of chests stacked on top of each other;
  • if you don’t like the use of brick in wall cladding, you can hang wallpaper with imitation masonry on the accent wall;
  • if you don’t like a plank floor, you can decorate the floor with brushed parquet, lay linoleum on the floor in the color of concrete, or, as a last resort, pour a self-leveling floor in a dirty gray shade.

Examples of private cottage projects

Loft style design varies depending on financial opportunities. If this is an artist's style, it is simpler and freer. When design is carried out in the spirit of stylization, there are departures from generally accepted norms.
