Homemade motorized dog from a walk-behind tractor. Options for interesting homemade products from a walk-behind tractor. Work methodology

Motorized dog-stretcher from the Tarpan motor-block built by Nikolai from Arkhangelsk. One long winter evening, Nikolai began to think. I have a “Tarpan” walk-behind tractor, which works for three days in the spring and there is nothing on it except a cutter, and I plow all year round. I decided to keep it busy in winter too.

I drew and assembled track blocks for the Tarpan instead of cutters. The speed, of course, is low - 5 km/hour.
But the steering is easy, since the wheelbase is short. Pulls up to 150 kg on a stretcher. It doesn’t fall through or skid in the snow, it’s still a caterpillar vehicle. This scheme can be applied to any walk-behind tractor, even to the “Mole”, just calculate the diameter of the sprocket and the width of the track depending on the engine power.

Tactical specifications:
The width of the structure is 800 mm.
Track width is 700 mm.
Body - 700x800 mm.

Two tracks 80x2300 each from a B-4mm conveyor belt. Single-layer cord.
Tracks from waste plastic pipes.
Axle base -670 mm + tension.

The leading stars are cut out of polyethylene using a jigsaw.

We still need to make a sit-down sled for the walk-behind tractor.

Conductor for assembling the caterpillar. The conductor is made from old door with two glazing beads at the edges and 35 mm bars stuffed onto it, the distance between them is also 35 mm.

The tracks are mounted on the drive sprocket and on the tension wheel.

Two hulls with tracks are connected by corners and there is a platform for the engine on them.

Tension wheel with a diameter of 290 mm with a tension mechanism.

A drive sprocket with a cavity diameter of 290 mm with an axle that fits onto the axle of the walk-behind tractor.

The rear drive sprockets are made like this on a motorized dog, but the sizes that are not indicated must be selected depending on your unit.
Bearings 107 and 205 are used here. Bearings 205 are too large for such equipment, but what was at hand. The bearing on the axle depends on the diameter of the axle of your unit.

There are grooves on the transverse corners for fastening.

Inside the sprockets, support skis are made of plastic, which are secured with screws from below to the sides of the boards so that the ends of the inner ski do not move or straighten.
they are secured with clamps made of round timber D6 mm.

Operation shows that a 4 mm thick tape with one cord is rather weak, so it is better to increase the support area by adding another caterpillar in the middle.

An inspection of the gearbox and pads showed that everything was fine with them.

Do-it-yourself motorized dogs are made today by many craftsmen. These devices are small-sized tracked snowmobiles that can be used to tow a sled. This type of technology became known relatively recently, about 20 years ago, but today it has already gained popularity among a wide range of consumers. You can not only purchase equipment, but also manufacture it.

Why is it worth making a motorized dog?

The equipment is compact, unpretentious and does not require a separate storage room. If you make such a motorized towing vehicle yourself, it will be able to make your life easier, this especially applies to fishermen and hunters, as well as lovers of active winter holiday. Collect this device can be done using improvised means, this approach will be more cost-effective compared to purchasing a factory-assembled model.

Preparation for work

Before you start assembling a motorized dog with your own hands, you must decide on its characteristics. It is important to decide what load capacity the equipment will have, what engine it will power, and what type of transmission will be used in the design. The mechanic needs to decide whether the engine will be started with an electric starter or manually.

When motorized dogs are made with your own hands, they are usually supplemented with devices that will respond to the owner’s needs. This may include:

  • winch;
  • circuit protection;
  • additional light.

You may need a motorized towing vehicle in the form of a pusher. All these characteristics will allow you to determine the required set of tools and materials.

Engine selection and base assembly

At the first stage, the master will have to assemble a frame on which the engine, chassis and gearbox will be mounted. For this, a channel or a metal beam is usually used, from one of which it will be possible to assemble a rectangular frame, and for this you need to use a welding machine and an angle grinder. When assembling a motorized dog with your own hands, mounts for the gearbox and motor are installed on the frame, and a steel corner should be used. The engine can be anything, it can be borrowed from the Druzhba or Ural chainsaw. This is exactly what the manufacturers of the first motorized towing vehicles did.

However, you can also use a powerful motor, which can be taken from an imported scooter or moped. If we're talking about About the Sh-58 engine, we can highlight its main advantage - the ability to use a manual shift gearbox. If we use an engine foreign production, then it should be small-displacement; it is advisable to prefer a two-stroke engine, because a four-stroke engine with the same power will have a more impressive mass. If we talk about power, then 6.5 liters will be quite enough. s., this will ensure a speed of 30 km/h, which is true even when moving in deep snow.

Work on the chassis

If you are thinking about the question of how to make a motorized dog with your own hands, then you should take care of the control system and chassis. The latter is based on support bearings. On lathe Taking into account the selected bearings, bushings are made, the wall thickness of which should be 5 mm.

They are used to install support bearings at the corners of the frame. The front and rear axles are turned on a lathe, resulting in shafts. The described design will have a greater volume of loads on the rear part. Therefore, the rear shaft must be made a drive shaft; a drive sprocket is put on it, which is fixed by welding. It should be connected using a chain to the gearbox.

Do-it-yourself homemade motorized dogs are made using a certain technology, which provides additions to the equipment in the form of caterpillars. They can be made from a 22 cm conveyor belt, which is additionally reinforced with metal tires. You can borrow a track from a Buran snowmobile, but to expand the chassis, it is cut in half and inserts are made.

Work methodology

Track tracks are sometimes made from hardwood or Buran carriages, which are sawn and joined with inserts. Pulleys must be installed on the four-speed gearbox and the motor, which are connected by a belt drive. The steering wheel is complemented by built-in controls such as gas and clutch handles, as well as a gearbox switch. It is removed from a scooter or moped.

Assembling a motorized dog with your own hands involves fixing the handle on the right side, while the clutch and gearbox shift knob should be on the left. The steering wheel is fixed using two tubes, which should look like the letter P. The resulting fork is fixed to the rear axle with washers, which are strengthened by welding. As a result, there will be no difference in driving a regular moped and a motorized towing vehicle.

You can change the technology of work. For example, a do-it-yourself motorized pusher dog is made using almost the same method, but the difference is expressed only in attachments. For this purpose, components and parts are used that were borrowed from other mechanisms and devices that had previously fallen into disrepair.

Using a walk-behind tractor

In the design, you can use a walk-behind tractor, which will form the basis. However, it will be possible to achieve a speed of 5 km/h. It is necessary to make two tracks from the conveyor belt, and the cord will be single-layer. By using waste plastic pipes, you can make tracks. Using polyethylene, you will need to cut out the leading stars using a jigsaw.

A do-it-yourself motorized dog from a walk-behind tractor is made using a technology that involves supplementing the equipment with a sedentary sled. The conductor is made from an old door, onto the surface of which it is necessary to fill glazing beads and bars, the distance between them will be 35 mm. The tracks and tension wheel are put on the drive sprocket.

Conclusion

If you decide to make a motorized dog, then the elements are connected to each other by the corners on which the platform for mounting the engine is located. The tension wheel will have a diameter of 290 mm. The diameter of the cavity at the drive sprocket is 290 m, the sprocket is put on the axle of the walk-behind tractor.

Taking into account the parameters of the unit, you must select the dimensions of the structures, which are made of channel, angle and pipe. For example, bearings will have dimensions of 107 and 205 mm. Sometimes the last parameter turns out to be too large for such equipment, but if spare parts are on hand, then you can use them. Taking into account the diameter of the unit’s axle, it is necessary to select a bearing that fits onto the axle.

The “biting” prices for snowmobile equipment are forcing amateurs or professionals of winter hunting and fishing to make their own “sleighs”.

Motorcycle dog or motorized towing vehicleperfect option active rest. Of course, the unit will be based on Buranovsky parts, but the main tool will be your hands and technical knowledge.

To create a motorized towing vehicle with your own hands in your garage, you should prepare: metal beams 20*40*120 of which welding machine preparing the frame.
We will weld a mount for the motor and gearbox onto the frame. The motorized dog will move with the help of a caterpillar.

To do this, we take the element we need from Buran. Cut it crosswise. This is done in order to expand it chassis.
The connecting elements are jumpers made of “U”-shaped metal profiles. The caterpillar is “required” to rotate by two axles, specially machined to our dimensions - 25 mm thick, 50 cm long. “Cheeks” are welded to them for attaching the drive sprockets.
In addition, support bearings are attached to the frame on both sides (two in front and two in back). They are inserted into support housings. Three carriages with rollers were taken from the Buran snowmobile to provide support for the tracks. They are first subjected to expansion; for this purpose, the sawn carriages are connected with inserts.
Prepared carriages are placed on the “ears” welded to the frame. We install the motor with a pulley, connecting it to a four-speed gearbox with a belt drive (there is also a pulley on the box).
For control, handles are installed from a pipe (1.5 cm, 120 cm long), tightened with jumpers (in an arbitrary arrangement).

A Buranovsky gas trigger is installed on the steering wheel. A corresponding cable goes from it to the carburetor. There is a lever on the steering wheel, from which comes a tension roller, screwed to the frame on a hinge. By tightening the belts, he sets the vehicle in motion. The structure is designed in such a way that it allows, if necessary, to manually replace the belt.

For a homemade vehicle to move at a speed of 30 km/h in deep snow, it is enough to take a 6.5 horsepower engine.

For safety reasons, a protective housing is placed on top of the motor. The installed shield is made of steel sheet(1.5 mm). To fill the fuel, a hole with a diameter slightly larger than the neck with a lid is cut from above the gas tank.

In addition, this technique is not without its convenient moments. “Stash places” are installed under the seat and on the opposite side,

for various little things that will be quite useful on the road, including food supplies.

The output is motorized towing vehicle homemade, with low weight, capable of moving on a snowy surface. Dimensions are relatively small (150x55x60 cm). With them, any transportation of a motorized dog is not a problem.

In any self-made equipment, the most important part is the engine. To make a motorized dog, preference should be given to one of the most common Sh-58 motors, intended for mopeds, which are produced by a domestic plant. Its main advantage is that such a motor requires the use of a manual gearbox switch.

In addition, it should be noted that engines can also be installed in homemade towing vehicles. foreign manufacturers. Today, small-displacement engines, which are offered to customers by Honda and Yamaha, have become quite popular.

Engine for motorized dog

Often the engine used is a chainsaw motor - its small dimensions and sufficient power for a homemade motorized dog at a fairly low price speak for themselves.

The main technical characteristic of these internal combustion engines is their versatility. Thus, the engines are perfect both for equipping a compact motorized dog and for use in a huge number of different technical means, starting with walk-behind tractors and ending with a small electric generating station.

Regarding the number of strokes, it is better to choose a high-quality two-stroke engine, which is more practical, unlike a four-stroke one. Two-stroke bikes have smaller dimensions and weight, and the power characteristics are practically no different. The disadvantage of two-stroke engines is their rather low engine life, but here you can also invest in inexpensive kits for overhauls.

It is also necessary to take care of the parts for the towing vehicle control system. Most best option– a steering wheel equipped with built-in controls: clutch and gas handle, gearbox switch. It can be removed from any worn-out equipment or purchased ready-made designed for mopeds or scooters.

Before you begin assembling the equipment, you need to purchase correctly selected bearings for support. It is for them that the bushings will have to be machined. A self-welded frame made from several pipes for water supply, differing from each other in hole diameter, can serve as a reliable main structure. To give them the appropriate shape, they are initially filled with dried sand and then tightly closed with plugs. Next stage consists of placing the workpiece in a vice, where, under the influence of a conventional soldering iron, it bends at pre-marked points. The curves turn out smooth and beautiful if you use a template that can be made from plywood. However best results can be achieved using pipe benders.

When each individual frame part has the required bends, they are connected into one whole using welding clamps. This is because you can easily remove any possible defects that arise during the assembly stage. After all defects have been corrected, the frame is fastened together using electric welding.

It is also necessary to prepare parts from sheet steel that will be needed to fix the engine to the frame. They are made using cardboard templates. They are attached to the engine, and the resulting structure is connected to the frame body with welding points. Then the engine must be disconnected from the template and the fasteners securely welded to load-bearing structure.

For a homemade tracked unit, you can take collapsible shafts. They are very easy to make from several bearings, bushings, and also shafts. Bushings are manufactured exclusively for purchased bearings in such a way that their wall dimensions do not exceed five millimeters. Because in such a towing vehicle the heaviest loads are placed on the rear axle. For this reason, the rear shaft is equipped with a drive sprocket, which is connected to the gearbox through a chain drive.

In addition to composite shafts, a motorized dog also uses wheels of this type. The latter includes two cheeks each having a thickness of three millimeters, as well as a large number of special lugs made from small steel pipes. They will be able to dampen vibration better if rubber bushings are attached to their ends.

Mover

Excellent tracks for a motorized dog can be made from a conveyor belt. Most the best option– tape with a width of more than two hundred millimeters. For the manufacture of tracks, slats with flat surface from birch. Their length should be approximately 1260 millimeters. The structure of these elements can be strengthened by using several steel ridges that are fixed to birch beams. All components are connected to each other using M6 threaded bolts.

You can use two tracks instead of one. The design with two tracks is simpler, but has less maneuverability in deep snow.

The control system of a homemade towing vehicle is not much different from that used on mopeds. Steering wheel with right side has a gas handle, and on the left - a lever for shifting the gearbox, as well as a clutch handle. To attach the steering wheel to the supporting structure, two pipes are required, welded to a U-shaped fork. The latter is fixed on the rear axle with welded steel washers.

The motor in the motorized dog is located in the caterpillar structure itself, which is why it cannot be brought into operation with a conventional kickstarter. Thus, the system needs to be modernized. You should take a pipe with a sufficiently long length. A hole is made at one end of a size that allows you to effortlessly insert the lever drive. Then the pipes are connected to the kickstarter lever using standard welding.

And so, you decided that you need a motorized towing vehicle for hunting, fishing, transporting goods, or just for driving, but you want a more powerful engine, larger standard headlights, heating, and a special color. But in the product catalog there is no such individual model, just for your taste. But it’s not scary, today you can assemble high-quality DIY motorized towing vehicle. You just need to have a little experience in locksmith work, a set of tools and a desire to get unique equipment. The assembly process can be divided into several technological stages:

  1. Choosing the configuration of a future motorized towing vehicle: at the first stage, you need to decide what kind of motorized towing vehicle you want, draw up its description and technical characteristics: determine the load capacity, engine power, type of start (manual or electric starter), select the type of transmission, sled (drag) and color frames And also decide which additional equipment you want to equip a motorized towing vehicle with manual assembly: for example a winch, a protective casing, chain protection, extra. headlights, etc.
  2. Once you have decided on the package, you need to select the necessary parts on our website. You can buy separately the motor, electrics, base for the motorized dog (chassis and body) and other necessary spare parts.
  3. Order all the parts for self-assembly. All components will be packaged and shipped. The necessary instructions will be attached to the main components.
  4. After receiving all the spare parts, you will need to familiarize yourself with the parts and their descriptions. Be sure to check the package.
  5. Assembly is the most important point in independently designing a motorized towing vehicle. It is necessary to install all the components on the base, connect everything according to the attached instructions. If you have any questions, you can call and get advice.
  6. Test it. Now you need to make sure that you have assembled everything correctly, check the reliability of all components and connections for your safety.

That's it, ready. Thus, you get exactly the equipment you want at the cost of a regular model, and sometimes even cheaper. And it will be a self-assembled motorized towing vehicle, which is doubly nice. But still before self-assembly It’s worth studying the catalog carefully, maybe you can find the model you need.

By making a motorized dog ourselves, we are not responsible for the final product; all work is performed entirely under your responsibility.
