How to make a beautiful crystal. How to grow a crystal from sugar. Required materials and tools

Almost anyone can grow a crystal. The main thing is to have necessary knowledge For correct implementation experiment. A similar practice is carried out in some schools during chemistry lessons. Of course, there are certain rules that cannot be ignored:

  1. Dishes used for growing cannot be used for eating.

  2. You need to use only those reagents that you know.

  3. You cannot eat or drink while growing.

  4. Materials and resources for the experiment must be stored in a sealed, dry place. Giving them to children or animals is strictly prohibited.

  5. The experiment is carried out in a separate indoors wearing gloves and protective clothing.

  6. If the solution gets on the skin, the area should be washed with water. In case of contact with the eye, consult a doctor immediately.

  7. Keep your work area tidy.

As you understand, all these rules are necessary for growing a crystal at home to be successful, without undesirable consequences.

To prepare, you will need a glass container and a substance from which the crystal will grow. For those who are conducting such experiments for the first time, it is recommended to use salt or copper sulfate. The first one can be purchased at any grocery store, and the last one is where fertilizers for the garden and garden are sold. Also, both can be purchased at chemical stores.

The experiment itself is carried out as follows:

  1. The substance is placed in small portions into hot water. The reagent is stirred until a concentrated solution is obtained. Its main symptom is that the substance will stop dissolving.

  2. The resulting solution is cooled and after half an hour is filtered using a funnel and a piece of cotton wool. The procedure is repeated a day later.

  3. A seed (small crystal) is placed in the solution. 3 days after this, small crystals form in the container, which will interfere with the growth of the main one. To get rid of them, the liquid is filtered and poured into another container. The main crystal is also placed there.

  4. Gradually, the liquid in the container evaporates, and the seed begins to grow. If it was just lying on the bottom, the direction of growth would be limited from below. If the crystal is placed on a copper wire at the very beginning, the only limitation will be the walls of the vessel. When all the liquid has evaporated, a crystal remains in the container at home.

In order to grow crystal from salt, first you need to prepare a fairly concentrated saline solution. Salt is added to the glass of water until it stops dissolving while stirring.

Now you should heat the resulting mixture to achieve complete dissolution of the selected salt. A glass of saline solution is placed in a container with hot water. Then the resulting concentrated salt solution is poured into a special glass or container. Using a jumper (it can also be made from a ball-shaped rod), a crystalline “seed” - a crystal of table salt - is suspended from a thread into the beaker, so that it is completely immersed in the resulting solution and does not touch the walls of the beaker. The crystal can also be lowered to the bottom of the glass. It is on this “seed” that your future crystal will grow. The container with the saline solution should be placed in a warm place and left open. To grow a crystal from salt, you need to wait a while. After a few days, your crystal will increase significantly in size. After three days after the start of the experiment, a thread with a “seed”, dipped into a concentrated saline solution, will turn into a “necklace” of crystals. If you want your crystal to grow even faster, you need to repeat the procedure for preparing the solution again. Your “seed” can be placed in a new salt solution and the required portion of table salt can be added. It must be remembered that the saline solution must be highly concentrated - while preparing the mixture, salt must remain at the bottom of the beaker. For example, approximately 35 grams of table salt can be dissolved in 100 ml of water at a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. As the temperature increases, the solubility of table salt increases. When your crystal grows to the right size, it should be removed from the solution and dried with a soft cloth or paper napkin. Then the thread is cut, and the edges of the crystal are coated with colorless varnish to prevent it from “weathering” in the air. Using this method, you can use table salt of any shade or shape.

Of course, grow crystal diamond in home conditions is impossible. But here you get a very beautiful one yourself crystal salt is quite possible. Since it is fragile and afraid of water, it will have to be stored in a transparent box.

Instructions

Decide whether you need the correct one or if some deviations from it are allowed. correct form(sometimes the second one even turns out). In the first case, the water should be distilled and the salt not iodized. In the second case, use tap water and any table salt.

Boil about half the water. While it is boiling, be careful not to scald it, start pouring salt into it. To do this, you can use, for example, a V-shaped piece of metal, keeping your hands away from the vessel. Continue adding it until the solution becomes supersaturated (small spots begin to form on the walls of the vessel). crystal ick salt).

One of the largest crystal Separate them and hang them on a thread.

Pour the supersaturated solution into a clean vessel so that small particles do not get into it. crystal icks from the walls of the vessel in which the boiling was carried out. Let it cool, then add it to the solution crystal IR on a thread. It should not touch the bottom.

Leave the vessel in a place where it will not be moved. Small crystal IR will gradually increase in . When it reaches the size you want, remove it, then dry it thoroughly and place it in a transparent box.

If desired, make a device for illumination crystal and LEDs. What it will be depends on yours. Can be highlighted as one large crystal, and several smaller ones. In the latter case, they can be used to make a composition composed not only of crystal ov, but also from others. Don't forget to add a background and cover the composition with glass, since touch crystal s spoil.

From about four to seven or eight years of age, there comes a period in life when he develops an attitude towards life and confidence in own strength. During this short time, parents need to do a lot to raise their child to be independent, successful person.

Instructions

A socially successful person is unlikely to grow up in a family where passive, consumer attitude to a life where self-esteem is low. Don't forget that children learn by watching you. Try to be a role model for your child. If close people are honest with him, he learns justice from them and will definitely be honest with them. If the parents are successful, the baby will strive for success.

To develop healthy self-love and form correct love, a child needs to know that he is loved and valued, that he is the way he should be. Children need to feel that their parents are proud of them and do not regret that they were not born differently. Remember: neither expensive toys, no other gifts or material benefits can replace your parental participation in his life, attention and love, which allows him to feel his value.

Remember that numerous prohibitions, as a rule, do not help achieve the desired result. The baby will do the opposite, annoying his parents, or take it as a strict instruction for the rest of his life, forming an inferiority complex. And it is incompatible with success.

One of the main tenets of a successful, self-confident woman is “My opinion is important to others.” And the little person should know this. Treat any of his problems not in a condescending and condescending manner, but seriously and in a friendly manner. Try to communicate with your child on an equal footing and encourage his independence. But always offer your baby your help when you see that he needs it.

In order to carry out interesting experiments, it is not at all necessary to have your own laboratory. Experimenting at home is simple and fun, especially for children. To conduct experiments at home, it is enough to prepare items that are found in almost every home.

Crystals have attracted humans since ancient times. Almost all precious jewelry stones, with a few exceptions, are minerals with a clear crystal lattice. Modern technologies allow you to grow artificial gems, which do not differ in appearance from the real ones, have the same structure. Surprisingly, not only minerals, but ordinary grains of salt or sugar are also crystals that can grow. How to make salt crystals yourself? Let's talk about this in more detail.

First you need to select the substance you want to form into a crystal. Experiments at home have shown that the easiest way is to use regular table salt. This method has an undoubted advantage - all the necessary components are literally at hand, without requiring the purchase or search for special components. Please read the instructions carefully before starting the experiment. Suitable for a “little miracle” different salts:

  • marine;
  • cookery;
  • copper or iron sulfate;
  • potassium chloride;
  • potassium alum;
  • potassium permanganate.

Exercise extreme caution when working with the substances used. You must immediately decide what result you want to get - one large single crystal or several smaller ones. To do this you will have to use different technologies. Note that growing single crystals is simpler in execution. Important: the container in which our beautiful stone, it is unacceptable to shake and move, otherwise it will turn out irregular shape. It is forbidden:

  • removing the crystal from the vessel for no reason;
  • use food coloring to add color;
  • paint the surface of the finished “product” with paint.

How to grow a salt crystal at home

So, you decided to find out how to make a crystal from salt. To get a little preliminary practice, a ready-made kit for growing crystals, which is sold in children's stores, is suitable. You can do this process with your child. He will certainly enjoy the activity. There is an express way to obtain what you are looking for in 1 day, but then you will get not one large, but several fused small crystals. If you are ready for the wait and the impressive results, we will tell you how to grow a crystal from table salt.

Required materials and tools

For the intended experiment, it is necessary to prepare a set of required materials, which should contain:

  • two transparent containers (so we can observe the growth);
  • the substance that we will use for cultivation (in our case it is table salt);
  • stick or tablespoon;
  • funnel;
  • filter paper;
  • thread, or better, if available, thin copper wire;
  • a lot of time and patience.

Step-by-step instruction

All the necessary materials are prepared, it’s time to start making a grain of salt into a magic stone. What is the basic principle of how a small crystal becomes large? A small grain is added to a saturated solution of a substance, and the molecules begin to stick to it. The crystalline is growing. In order for the molecules to stick, you need to cool the liquid or evaporate it. The slow cooling method achieves faster results. We bring to your attention instructions on how to make crystals from table salt:

  1. In a glass container (it is better not to use a plastic one), prepare a saturated saline solution. Add salt to hot water, mix thoroughly (for 100 grams of water heated to a temperature of 80°, 36-38 grams of salt are required).
  2. Ready solution must be allowed to cool. An hour after this, it must be filtered using a funnel with cotton wool or special filter paper.
  3. After standing for several hours, let’s filter the composition again.
  4. We tie a larger grain of salt to a copper wire or thread and lower it inside the container. It should be suspended without touching the bottom. The jar should be covered with paper to prevent dust from entering.
  5. After a day or two, the bottom, walls, and the wire itself become overgrown with many small crystals. We take the second vessel, carefully move our embryo there and pour the liquid.
  6. Fill the remaining crystals with water again, and then constantly maintain the liquid level in the jar with the growing crystal. About once a week, the solution must be filtered to remove precipitated crystals.
  7. After a few days, the growth will become clearly noticeable. Continue growing as much as you like until you get the desired result. Then carefully remove the miracle stone, rinse it carefully and cover it with clear nail polish to give it strength.

The term “crystal” should be understood as a substance in which the smallest particles, atoms, are arranged in a certain order. They form a crystal lattice - a three-dimensionally periodic ordered spatial arrangement.

As a result, externally the crystals have the appearance of regular symmetrical polyhedra. They can vary greatly in shape and have from four to several hundred edges that intersect each other at certain angles.

Salt is a member of the crystal family

One such solid with an ordered symmetrical structure is ordinary salt.

It is a food product that occurs naturally as a mineral called halite. A large amount of it is found in other salty sources. If you look at grains of salt with a microscope or magnifying glass, you will notice that they have flat edges. This means they are in a crystalline state. In this article we will talk about how to make a salt crystal yourself. It's actually not difficult. To understand how salt crystals form, that is, the crystallization process, we suggest you carry out an interesting experiment at home. It is advisable for the child to perform it under the guidance of an adult. Remember that the shape of a salt crystal can be different, including cubic, prismatic, or any other more complex one. However, the sides of the salt always intersect at right angles.

Let's talk about how to make a crystal from salt: necessary supplies and tools

Well, let's get to work. What materials and tools will we need to do this? interesting experience? Of course, water, transparent glass glasses, a string or thick thread, a wooden spatula. You should also prepare the rod ballpoint pen or a regular pencil.

And most importantly, you need to be patient. The fact is that the crystallization process takes time - about three weeks. How to make a crystal from salt? Take good salt, without impurities. It is advisable to purchase a product with a purity of at least 98%, otherwise the experiment may not be successful. If the salt contains a large number of various impurities, the specimen will turn out ugly and will have flaws. From salt, let's start by preparing a highly concentrated solution. Pour into a glass or jar warm water(200 ml) and start adding salt. Don’t forget to constantly stir the liquid with a wooden spatula. This is necessary so that the salt dissolves well. After the solution is ready (this can be determined by the fact that the added salt has ceased to dissolve in a glass of water with normal stirring), the mixture should be heated. Fill the saucepan with water, put it on the fire, and heat the water. Then carefully place a glass of concentrated saline solution into it and wait until it warms up.

We continue our work on growing beautiful salt crystals

Then we take our glass glass out of the pan and leave it alone.

We attach a thread to the shaft of a ballpoint pen (pencil), to which we tie a small crystal of salt. We place the rod on the glass and immerse the rope with the “seed” in the solution. It is on this salt crystal that our beautiful exhibit will grow. That's all, now all we have to do is wait. We place the glass in a warm place and monitor the crystallization process every day. Under no circumstances should you shake, turn over or lift the container with the solution. Gradually the crystal will grow and become quite large. When this happens, you can carefully remove it from the solution. We recommend drying it with a napkin, but be extremely careful - your specimen is very fragile. Trim the excess thread and coat the crystal with clear varnish to extend its life. Now you know how to get salt crystals at home. We hope you will be able to repeat our simple experiment.

Crystals from the experience of creating a beautiful exhibit

If you want to grow large, even and beautiful specimens, pay attention to the following experience. To work you will need the following materials and tools:

  • transparent glass;
  • water;
  • sea salt;
  • paper;
  • napkin;
  • wooden spatula;
  • a medium-sized flat pebble.

The technology of the crystal growing process is as follows. First, pour not too hot water into a glass and start pouring sea salt into it, gradually, one teaspoon at a time. At the same time, do not forget to stir with a spatula. Salt must be added to the liquid until it stops dissolving. Now take a napkin and filter the resulting solution through it. This is done so that specks do not interfere with the formation of an even and beautiful sample.

The process of creating large salt crystals

How to make a crystal from salt: after filtering, put a small pebble into the solution (can be replaced with a nut) and set it to cool. Remember that the slower our salty liquid cools, the larger the crystals will be. It is advisable to cover the glass with paper and place it in a dark place, protected from drafts. After two or three days, you will see how your pebble will become overgrown with small crystals. Carefully ensure that the solution completely covers the “seed” at all times. You should also clean the liquid weekly to remove dust and excess crystals that form at the bottom of the glass. As it evaporates, you need to add highly concentrated water to the container. Make sure it is clean and not cold (room temperature). In addition, it is necessary to periodically remove the crust that appears at the bottom of the container. After two to three weeks, your crystal will reach approximately 2-3 cm in length. And in order to receive a larger specimen, it will take more time - about 6 weeks.

Correcting salt crystals

Remember that you may not get beautiful and even crystals right away. Anything requires practice. We advise you to carefully correct the crystallization of the samples, removing not very beautiful growths. This can be done with a sharp knife, scraping off the excess. Also, using Vaseline, you can stop the formation of edges. If necessary, the Vaseline layer can be removed from the sample with acetone. When your crystal grows to the desired size, you can carefully remove it from the solution. After this, you should gently wipe the edges with a napkin. You can cover the sample with hairspray: this way your crystal will become less fragile, brittle and will retain its beautiful appearance for a long time. appearance.

Original craft made from table salt crystals

At home, you can not only grow an ordinary salt crystal, but also make interesting craft. To do this you will need the following tools and materials:

  • water;
  • salt;
  • wire;
  • threads;
  • filter paper;
  • jar - 2 pcs.;
  • pot;
  • wooden spatula.

Let's start the work by dissolving the salt in water. Add it to the liquid in small portions, adding the next one only after the previous one has completely dissolved. When the salt stops dissolving, move on to next stage. Take a pan, fill it with water and place the container on the stove over low heat. We place a jar of saline solution in it. We monitor the heating process. We continue to dissolve the salt, bringing the temperature to 65 degrees. That's it, turn off the gas, but do not remove the jar from the pan yet. The fact is that the temperature difference can lead to glass containers will burst. After the solution has cooled, you can safely remove the jar from the pan.

Solution filtration and crystallization

After this, we begin to clean the solution from impurities. Take a clean jar and attach filter paper to its neck. Now carefully pour the solution into a new container. All undissolved salt crystals and impurities remain on the filter paper. We get a clean solution. Now we put the jar of liquid in a cool place and make a “seed”. We take copper wire and use it to make any animal shape, flower, twig, or star. We wrap the wire with thread. Place the workpiece in a jar with saline solution, cover the container with a napkin, leaving only a small gap. That's all, all that remains is to wait for the crystals to grow from the salt. After the wire has grown over, you can remove it from the solution. This must be done very carefully, as the salt crystals may break.

Modern man has become capable of many things: nanotechnology, artificial insemination, studying distant galaxies. What then can we say about growing minerals at home? Yes, yes, each of us today can grow a real crystal in our kitchen without laboratory equipment And scientific knowledge. All you need is ingenuity, patience and a few available materials.

Crystals, regardless of whether they are natural or artificial, amaze with their beauty, versatility and unusualness. That is why interest in home growing crystals increases. They are grown in the most unusual shapes and colors, using simple ingredients, such as salt, soda, citric acid, dyes, etc.

You can grow the most beautiful and unique crystal for yourself different methods, choosing the one you liked best. There are even special kits on sale for fans of home experiments, with the help of which it is possible to obtain crystals of simply incredible shapes.

Instructions on how to grow crystals

Growing home crystals is a simple and exciting process if you study the rules of the experiment in advance and prepare necessary materials. The only negative is that the crystal takes quite a long time to grow, on average it takes at least a month.

The formation of the crystal lattice, its growth rate, color, density - all this depends on the quality of the prepared solution, the selected dishes, and humidity external environment. These details must be taken responsibly. But the first thing you need to start with is the selection of equipment.

To grow a beautiful crystal you need:

  • Container for crystal. This is a kind of incubator that must comply with the rules: it should not oxidize, give off color, or deplete the smell. The best option- glass or enamel dishes. We immediately exclude metal, clay, and plastic vessels. As for size, there are no restrictions: it matters what size crystal you need.
  • Stick for stirring the solution. Here again the emphasis is on the material - we choose wood or glass.
  • Paper. During the growing process you will need white napkins good quality or filter paper.
  • The main component for the solution. It could be table salt, sugar, soda or something else. You select this product in accordance with the selected recipe.

Although solutions from different substances are used to grow crystals, the essence of the process itself is almost identical in all recipes.

The basic growing algorithm is as follows:

  • Salt or other ingredient is dissolved in hot water until a concentrated solution is obtained.
  • The seed base for the crystal (this can be a large piece of salt) is washed in water and immersed in the prepared solution.
  • The container with the solution is tightly closed. After about 24 hours, remove the lid. Around 3-4 weeks a large crystal will already be noticeable.
  • As soon as the top of the crystal emerges to the surface of the solution, the liquid is drained and the crystal is carefully removed from the container.
  • Then the crystal is dried and kept in a place protected from water and its beauty is admired.

How to grow a crystal from vitriol at home, step-by-step instructions

If you won’t surprise anyone with a colorless crystal, then a bright blue crystal will definitely be a real surprise. To create such beauty, a special ingredient is used - copper sulfate. It produces a brighter, more natural shade of blue than food coloring.

This substance is sold in garden supply stores. It is a chemical substance, so it is not suitable for creativity with children.

If you stick to following instructions, in a couple of weeks you will grow a gorgeous dark blue crystal:

  • Pour distilled water into a glass container.
  • Dissolve the powder in it copper sulfate until the granules stop dissolving in water.

  • Dip a simple thread into the solution, fixing one edge above the container. Wait a few hours for small crystals to form on the thread.
  • Choose the one you like best and leave it on the thread, and disconnect the rest and set it aside.

  • Lower the thread with the crystal into the solution again, fixing the structure so that it does not touch the bottom of the container. Give the crystal a few weeks and it will grow, turning blue.
  • After removing the crystal from the water, dry it and coat it with clear varnish to ensure its safety.

How to grow a crystal from salt quickly

Crystals grow beautifully from salt, but most recipes suggest using plain table salt. It is, of course, suitable, but if you are not very patient or you need the crystal as soon as possible, we advise you to use sea salt. It will not only speed up the rate of formation of the crystal array, but also make it much stronger. But, no matter what kind of salt you take, the appearance of the crystal will remain the same - it will be large, white, slightly transparent and, of course, will resemble a strangely shaped salt.

Let's start growing a salt crystal:

  • Take boiled spring or filtered water, pour into glass jar.
  • Stir it in a lot sea salt, and when its crystals refuse to dissolve, strain the solution through cheesecloth.

  • Pour the solution back into the jar, select a salt crystal big size, tie a thread to it and lower it into the solution. Then cool the solution quickly (this will speed up the formation of small crystals on the base).

  • Wait from a week to a month depending on the size of the crystal you need.
  • Wipe it dry with a napkin and treat it if desired.

How to grow a crystal from sugar

Sugar crystals are not just a masterpiece of homemade creativity, but also an unusual delicacy. Just imagine becoming an edible crystal creator! Just remember to use the highest quality products.

So, let's begin:

  • Prepare simple sugar, you can take food coloring if you wish, you will also need wooden sticks, water and several napkins.

  • Take 2 tbsp. water and 5 tbsp. sugar, but we won’t use them right away. Heat ¼ tbsp in a saucepan. water and 2 tbsp. l. sugar - you will get a sweet syrup.
  • Place a handful of sugar on a clean napkin and roll the sticks dipped in syrup in it. Make sure that the sugar sticks tightly around the entire stick, otherwise the crystal will be asymmetrical.

  • Let the prepared sticks dry thoroughly so that the sugar does not crumble.
  • While the pieces are drying, take a pan and add 2.5 tbsp. sugar and 2 tbsp. water, cook syrup. When all the sugar has dissolved, pour in the rest of the sugar and boil the syrup for 15 minutes.
  • Take several sheets of paper in the form of a square. Pierce them with chopsticks in the middle.

  • Then quickly pour the syrup into glasses, drop a few drops of multi-colored food coloring into each of them and immediately immerse the sticks in them. The workpiece should not reach the bottom or come into contact with the walls of the glass.
  • Thanks to the sheet, the stick will be securely fastened, and the paper will also act as a shield that protects the syrup from penetration of the saw and moisture.

Your crystals will grow in 7-14 days and will be quite edible even for children. True, provided that natural dyes were used.

How to grow a crystal from citric acid

To grow a crystal you will need about 180 g citric acid for every 100 g of water. Let us immediately make a reservation that the process is more complex than in the case of using salt or sugar.

Growing process:

  • In water (100 ml) at a temperature of 20⁰C, dissolve citric acid (130 g). During operation, the container with the solution will need to be slightly warmed up so that the temperature is stably maintained at 20⁰C. To do this, you can use another container with hot water into which you can immerse a glass of citric acid. It is advisable to monitor the process using a thermometer.
  • Then, over the course of a week, you need to add citric acid until it stops dissolving. For this, the remaining 50 g of citric acid will be enough for you. The solution will become like thick jelly, and small crystals will appear at the bottom.
  • At this stage, strain the solution. Wrap one crystal with fishing line and immerse it in the seed solution.
  • After 7-10 days, the crystal will reach 10-12 cm in diameter. You can pull it out, dry it and varnish it, or continue growing it.

The citric acid crystal is very sensitive to temperature changes and can crack, so it needs to be grown in stable climatic conditions.

How to grow a colored crystal

If growing crystals from food products has already been successfully mastered, you can aim for a home ruby. Of course, it will not be real, but no less attractive and bright. It will help to get such a pebble Chemical substance Potassium hexacyanoferrate(III), which is popularly called red blood salt. You can buy the substance without any problems in an online store or a store selling goods for the chemical industry. The crystal grows for about three weeks. At your discretion, you can grow a single crystal or a garden of many small crystals.

The process of growing homemade rubies:

  • Boil 175 ml of water, dissolve 100 g of red blood salt in it. The water temperature should not be lower than 90⁰С.

  • Now, if you need a single crystal, take a small crystal of ordinary salt, wrap a fishing line around it, and using a wooden stick or pencil, fix the fishing line with the crystal on the glass so that it is immersed in the solution.
  • If you want to grow a garden of crystals, take a smooth stone, preferably granite, and lower it into the bottom of a bowl with a solution.
  • Every day the crystal will increase in size. After three weeks, the crystal will begin to “peek out” from the water. At this point, it needs to be removed from the container, dried and coated with nail polish.
  • It is important to remember that red crystals are very fragile, so you need to work with them as carefully as possible.

How to grow a beautiful crystal

You can quickly grow a beautiful, regular-shaped crystal from aluminum alum. If you don't know what it is, we'll clarify: it's medicinal product(double salts) to stop external bleeding and relieve inflammatory process. It is sold at the pharmacy and costs a couple of rubles.

The process is quite simple:

  • First, buy the necessary drug at the pharmacy. It looks like this:

  • Boil 0.5 liters of water, dissolve 6 tbsp in it. l. alum.
  • Now all that remains is to wait. The main thing is that until the crystals grow, do not disturb them: do not stir the solution, do not shake the container.
  • In a week the crystals will grow noticeably:

  • Now select a seed crystal, make a hole in it, fix the thread, the other end of which is wound to the stick.

  • Dip the base crystal into the solution and wait 1-2 weeks. Its octahedral shape will remain the same, but the size of the crystal will increase significantly.
  • You will get this exclusive pendant:

    • Now, as usual, wait a few weeks and watch the purple crystal grow.

    How to grow green crystal

    Knowing the basics of chemistry, it is not difficult to grow a homemade crystal of an exclusive green color. Of course, the easiest way is to buy special set in the store, but we suggest going the other way and conducting a real experiment.

    Growing:

    • In the Garden and City store, buy Ammophos fertilizer based on ammonium dihydrogen phosphate. This substance will be the seed for growing a large crystal.
    • Take a small ball of foam and wrap it with wool thread, like a ball.

    • Sprinkle the ball with Ammophos powder so that large crystals grow. Drop the ball into an empty glass.

    • Add 40 g of Ammophos and 10 g of green food coloring to another glass, pour 50 g of boiling water, mix everything and pour into a glass with a ball.
    • It is important to pour the liquid along the edge of the container so as not to wash off the Ammophos solution from our ball. You need to fill the glass ¾ full because the ball will float to the surface (this is an important condition).
    • Now make a cylinder from an A4 paper sheet, put it on a glass, and cover the structure with a napkin on top.
    • Already on the fifth day you will grow an excellent crystal.

    Growing crystals at home will be something special for each of you. Some will become interested in an unusual hobby, collecting their crystal collection, some will have fun with their children, and some will improve their knowledge of chemistry. But, in any case, you will have an educational time. Happy experimenting!

How to grow crystals at home and make money from it? How to make money from this interesting business, we will tell you a little later in our article. First, we will touch on the issue of growing crystals and what you need to know for this.

How to grow a crystal?

What is a crystal? And everyone immediately saw a beautiful polyhedron, all iridescent and sparkling. There are two ways to grow crystals at home: by cooling the solution and evaporating the water. The method of cooling a solution is that when cooled, the dissolution of salts in the solution slows down and they precipitate. If the solution is cooled quickly, then many small crystals are obtained; if it is cooled slowly, then several large ones are obtained. The second method is the gradual removal of water from a saturated solution by simple evaporation of the liquid.

Growing crystals is enough interesting process. Cases are described on the Internet when enthusiasts grew crystals of such a size that they invited their friends to lift or move them. When working with crystal growing, you should remember own safety and do not neglect some rules:

    You cannot use unknown reagents for experiments;

    You cannot eat at the same time during the experiment;

    You cannot keep reagents for growing crystals in an open and accessible place, especially if you have small children and animals;

    It is advisable to use rubber gloves during the experiment; if a solution of salts or acid gets on your skin or eyes, you should rinse everything running water, if necessary, consult a doctor.

Such instruction will help you be somewhat more attentive to your health and the health of your family members. Also, to grow crystals you will need patience, a place where the solutions will be placed (preferably away from the battery) and a desire to do something that will make everyone gasp.

Crystal growing technology

Now let's see what we can grow? Let's start with something simple, with sugar.

How to grow a crystal from sugar.

Such crystals are often served along with expensive varieties tea in cafes and restaurants. It looks simple, sugar crystals, with different flavors and color palette on a stick. The cost of such sticks starts from 100 rubles, depending on the size. They are served for stirring tea, very beautiful. It will be interesting to grow such crystals with children at home, because after the crystals grow they can be dissolved like a lollipop.

For 5 crystal sugar sticks you will need:

    Two glasses of water;

    Five glasses of sugar;

    Five wooden sticks (can be used Chinese chopsticks or toothpicks);

    Pot;

    Food coloring for color;

Take a quarter glass of water, two tablespoons of granulated sugar and make syrup by heating it over a fire. Take a stick, dip it in syrup and roll in granulated sugar. Let the grains of sugar stick well, leave the stick overnight. In the morning, take a pan, pour two glasses of water and two and a half glasses of sugar into it and put it all on the stove. When all the sugar has dissolved, pour in the remaining sugar (2.5 cups) and mix. And all this is cooked over low heat until completely dissolved, then leave it for 20 minutes to cool. You can add food coloring during the cooking period. Next, the syrup is poured into glasses and sugar sticks are dropped into them; we secure them with clothespins so that they do not touch the walls of the glass and its bottom. Cover the tops of the glasses with film to prevent dust from getting in. After seven days we can see beautiful sugar crystal sticks. Delicious!

Crystals from sodium chloride or table salt.

This is the second ingredient after sugar that is found in every kitchen. The only thing is, do not take “Extra” salt or iodized salt, you will waste your time. Crystals cannot be obtained from this salt. You can dissolve the salt at room temperature; you can heat the solution a little to speed up the dissolution, but do not boil, be sure to filter it. You can also use food coloring or watercolors to add color to the solution. Gouache cannot be used; crystal growth will stop.

So, take a glass of water, dissolve salt in it in small portions until the dissolution stops. Pour the solution into a glass jar and leave for a day. After a day, at the bottom, you will notice small crystals, select one of them with tweezers and tie it to a silk thread. This is how you get the so-called “seed” for growing a crystal.

Next, strain the solution again and remove all the small crystals from the bottom. Dip the “seed” into the saline solution and begin to observe the growth of our crystal. On average, it will take two to three weeks to grow a small crystal. By the way, any object covered with frozen grains of salt can also act as a “seed”.

Crystals from copper sulfate.

From this chemical reagent Excellent crystals are obtained. Copper sulfate or copper sulfate can be purchased at any gardening store. Take 70-100 grams of copper sulfate (enough for the first time), a glass jar, and warm water. Pour vitriol into the jar and begin to slowly pour water until our ingredient stops dissolving. We filter the solution to remove any impurities and place it on the window. After a day, several crystals will fall out at the bottom, take the largest ones, and filter the solution again.

The crystal was tied to a thread and hung, the main thing being that it did not touch the walls or bottom of the jar. You can put the crystal on the bottom and turn it over for the first time and then tie it on. As a result, bluish-blue crystals grow, the shape is a parallelogram.

Crystals made from table salt and copper sulfate are very fragile. After you remove them from the solution, dry them with a towel and coat them with colorless varnish. After this, you can freely pick them up and use them for souvenirs and crafts.

What else can crystals be made from?

For example, calcium chloride. This is known to everyone chemical drug also sold at gardening stores. The crystals have the shape of a parallelepiped; you can also add dye. The next ingredient for growing crystals is iron sulfate. It is also found in gardening stores. With the addition of sulfuric acid, changing its concentration, crystals from iron sulfate can be obtained different colors and shapes.

You can also use nickel sulfate, copper carbonate, aluminum-ammonium sulfate, aluminum-potassium sulfate, chromium-potassium sulfate, iron-ammonium sulfate, manganese sulfate (react only in the presence of an industrial hood or outdoors), zinc sulfate, sodium sulfate, sodium iodide. Almost all of these crystals quickly erode and turn into powder, so they are not very suitable for crafts.

But crystals from ammonium dihydrogen phosphate are a completely different matter. They are very similar to rock crystal and if they are varnished, they will please the eye for a long time. Dihydrogen phosphate itself is sold in fertilizer stores and is not at all expensive.

Crystals from potassium sulfate also grow in very interesting shapes. The shape resembles a large-cut diamond. Potassium sulfate is also sold at gardening stores, called potassium sulfate. The crystal does not need to be coated with varnish; it is stored well.

Very beautiful crystals are obtained from red blood salt and sulfur. Not bad crystals are obtained from citric acid, however, they do not last long.

Well, this is probably the entire list of substances that we know for making crystals.

What can be done from grown crystals. How can you make money growing crystals?

This is the question of why this article was written. The first thing that comes to mind is the set young chemist. Not just a set, but a set with a disk attached detailed instructions on growing crystals. The main thing in this matter is not to overprice. Since many ingredients are sold in gardening stores and do not cost much money.

Secondly, these are sets for adults. They’re called “wishing jars,” you grow crystals and make a wish. It will grow up, which means it will come true; if it grows up small, it means it will not be the way you wanted it to be. Well, if it doesn’t grow at all, then the answer is immediately known.

Third. Sugar sticks for cafe and restaurant owners. They will pleasant surprise for clients and diversify children’s leisure time.

Fourth. This is the making of various souvenirs; when growing crystals, you can use various beads and rings. Gluing crystals together will be especially beautiful if the colors of the crystals are slightly different shades. You can connect them with semiprecious stones, decorate various products from cold porcelain, etc.

And finally, fifth. This is growing large crystals for custom gifts.
