How to install plastic windows yourself in an adobe house lined with brick. Installation of plastic windows in a country house made of adobe Material for decorative layouts

The turmoil associated with an important change, purchase plastic windows– this is the choice of profile, design, fittings, but not only. A decision has to be made regarding the slopes. Without the help of specialists, different types You can make slopes, save some money and buy a more expensive window sill, for example.

The downside is that, most likely, it will not be possible to repair the windows under warranty. On the other hand, they should not break. The guarantee is only insurance.

Often need to be insulated window hole, the quality of the “native” slopes is not satisfactory. Only by dismantling the old ones and improving them with insulation will the situation be changed.

Mosaics made of glass, mirror splashes, fragments, relief surfaces and other extravagant design options are created separately, mostly by hand. Photos of slopes with your own hands, from different materials will help you make a choice. But also from the features installation work, their simplicity or complexity, availability, much depends.

Increasing the slope by plastering is the most basic way of designing window opening. No need to buy tools or modern materials. Previously, people only plastered walls on their own and coped with this task perfectly.

Disadvantages of this method:

  • the surface may end up being uneven;
  • It is advisable to additionally insulate such slopes;
  • it will take quite a lot of time to work, because you will need to apply mortar in several layers, let each dry.

If you try, the new slopes will still turn out smooth and beautiful. As they say, the eyes are afraid, but the hands do. Should buy necessary materials, begin to restore the natural, usual design for apartments and houses.

It is important to take into account that in the end the slope will not look as harmonious with the windows as a plastic one. The sense of novelty and progress will be lost. But it will be cozy, and beauty in a “retro” style will return to the house.

The harmony of the design of the window opening is understood different people differently. This applies not only to curtains, the choice of plants, the color of the window sill, the color of the windows, but also to the slopes.

How to make slopes with your own hands when the plaster wrinkles without defects? The surface is easier to make if you use special plaster beacons. They are commercially available and can be plaster, metal, or wood.

It is better to choose gypsum ones, as they are very easy to handle. Metal ones are perfectly fixed, while wooden ones are easier to remove during the restoration process.

How many beacons are needed for one window? They are installed according to a clear pattern. The first one is attached next to window frame, close. As a result, the distance of the overlap of the slope onto the frame should be about 50 mm. Lighthouses are also needed external corners window opening. These areas are subject to greater stress, this element strengthens them.

Painting corners help improve the effect, achieve optimal results, shape correct angle. Attach them using gypsum putty.

To prevent the plaster from cracking, before starting to create a new surface, the old one must be thoroughly cleaned. You can achieve better adhesion of new materials to the surface if you make notches, although this is not necessary.

The surface must be coated with a primer. For plastering, a mixture of cement and sand in proportions of 1 to 2 is used. Gypsum dry plaster is ideal for upper slope.

Each layer is applied as carefully as possible, it is allowed to dry, leveled with a spatula, then the next one is applied. Sanding the last layer is a responsible process. You will not need a spatula, but Sander or sandpaper - with large grains and finer ones.

A sealant that can be used before painting will help eliminate cracks in the corners, along the line where the slope connects with the window frame or wall.

That's all, the slopes are ready. The surface is primed and painted desired color. If insulation is provided, it is necessary, after removing old slopes, treating the walls with primer, putty, to install insulating material, fix it with foam or with nails intended for this. Then apply plaster.

Installing slopes with your own hands from plasterboard is difficult at first glance. They do everything “scientifically,” as they say. Because of this, perhaps, the result is luxurious - the windows are neat, stylish, fashionable. True, you will need special tools that not every home has.

People are used to needing a hammer to hammer a nail, but it turned out that it is more practical to purchase a screwdriver. At the dacha, a hammer is relevant, but in an apartment with modern renovation No. And all because of drywall.

This is a light weight material, cut with a grinder. With its help, it is possible to create ideal flat surface. Such slopes can be repaired in case of minor damage using putty.

The disadvantage is that it is not resistant to moisture. Be sure to use a primer. It cannot be used to decorate surfaces on the street side.

They start with the installation of the frame: attach metallic profile, guides. Then the insulation is fixed and sheets of drywall are installed. Sheathe the sides first, and then top part.

If desired, if you have the skill, you can get the job done faster than if you choose plastering. Door slopes do-it-yourself ones are often also made from this material. It is beautiful and practical.

How to make slopes on windows with your own hands without extra effort? Sandwich panels are what you need. By purchasing them, you can simultaneously complete the decor and insulate the window opening. They are different colors, easily fixed.

In order to put the slopes in order, it is not necessary in this case to remove the old ones, but it is desirable that a truly durable surface, which will last for many years. If you decorate with sandwich panels old surface, the duration of their operation will depend on its condition.

The starter profile is placed next to the frame, and for the outer edge take wooden slats. The sandwich panel is attached to them using screws and self-tapping screws.

Polyurethane foam carefully fills the void between the panel and the wall. Decorative profile put on the corners, fixed. All that remains is to wipe the new surface and remove dust. The slopes are done new design will delight the eye with beauty modern materials, their combinations.

The installation of plastic windows is not always accompanied by finishing of the slopes by representatives of the window company. However, this is understandable - if you do it wisely, the process may take several days. So it will be much better if you do this work yourself. Don't know how to properly make slopes on windows? No problem, let's learn together.

The functions of window slopes are reduced to protecting the window opening from moisture, as well as providing insulation and noise reduction. Without slopes even the most best windows will not be able to perform their functions efficiently; their absence may lead to serious problems in the future. Therefore, when choosing windows, think in advance about how to properly make slopes and what material to choose for this.

  • Durability and reliability;
  • Resistance to weather conditions typical for your region;
  • Sealing and environmental friendliness;
  • Thermal insulation and sound insulation of premises;
  • Ease of cleaning.

Plaster slopes are one of the most common options, which are suitable for both external and external internal slopes. The option, by the way, is very budget-friendly, and the result is long-lasting. A smooth surface and high strength are the undoubted advantages of plaster; moreover, it can be repainted. It should be taken into account that when low temperatures there is a danger of freezing of the slope due to weak thermal insulation properties. Mold formation and moisture condensation are other unpleasant consequences of using plaster. In addition, you must be confident in your abilities - working with plaster requires certain skills or at least a clear understanding of the process.

Drywall for slopes is a middle option between plaster and plastic, both in price and durability. On the one hand, it soundproofs and insulates very well, but if it gets wet for a long time, it collapses. To avoid exposure to moisture, it is recommended to prime and paint the slopes protective compounds, repelling water. But drywall is very easy to work with, and even a beginner will have a smooth surface.

Wood finishing is very effective way, which goes well with wooden windows. However, such products require considerable costs and very careful care. The question of how to properly make slopes on wooden windows should only be dealt with by specialists, but it’s worth it - this is an elite slope covering.

Plastic slopes have become widespread along with plastic windows. In many ways this is the most best option: You get a neat, clean surface that is quick to install, easy to clean and retains heat very well. Even at frosty temperatures outside the window correct installation slopes, condensation on the elements themselves and on the adjacent section of the wall is excluded. However, the impact of moisture on the plastic slopes themselves does not threaten them. Over time, plastic parts may turn yellow - this is perhaps the only drawback of the material.

It is worth using this method of finishing a window opening only during overhaul when the wall covering changes. In progress cosmetic repairs It is better to change the plaster for something less easily soiled - you will definitely ruin the wallpaper. It should be noted that this method is the most time-consuming.

Before making slopes on the windows, it is necessary to clean the surface of the old coating and install beacons - wooden or metal. There are also ready-made plaster beacons that are ideal for beginners. So, the first mark is placed in close proximity to the window block, indicating a layer of plaster of at least 5 cm. Then the beacons are placed at the corners of the opening frame and leveled using a level.

For internal window slopes, dry cement-gypsum plaster is best suited. This solution dries faster, which is important for saving time; moreover, it can be applied in a thicker layer than the same cement-sand composition. The solution must be mixed with a construction mixer, or use a hammer drill or drill with a special attachment at low speeds.

For external slopes it is necessary to use cement mixture or a special facade putty - both materials adequately withstand the effects of moisture and other atmospheric phenomena. Before plastering, it would not hurt to carry out thermal insulation, especially if the windows are plastic - this will avoid fogging of the windows in cold seasons.

The plaster is applied in several passes - each layer requires drying. The first step is to spray - dilute the plaster with a large amount of water and spray the area to be finished with an ordinary broom soaked in the solution. This allows you to get good adhesion between the base and the plaster layer. The second layer should rid the surface of minor irregularities, no more - it is strictly forbidden to apply a thick layer of plaster.

The next layer is applied after the first has dried and primed. The last layer Apply finishing putty, which is sanded after drying. The gaps remaining at the junction of the window block and the putty should be sealed with a special sealant that can be painted. For high-quality sealing, the joint is cut at an angle of 45° by 2-3 mm, the resulting recess is primed and after a few hours is filled with a sealing compound.

The finished surface should be primed to prevent the appearance of small cracks and prepare it for painting. Usually enamel or acrylic paint, which are applied in two layers. In total, it will take about a week to complete this set of works from the beginning until the last layer of paint dries.

Drywall has one significant advantage over the same plastic - it can be repaired with minor damage and return a clean, aesthetic appearance. No special skills are required to create a slope from plasterboard. First, you need to create a frame from a galvanized profile - some window companies supply these complete with their products. In any case, a special groove must be provided in the window block, and the profile can be purchased separately.

The installation of slopes should begin no earlier than one day after installing the windows - during this time the polyurethane foam will completely polymerize, and its excess can be cut off and the spacers removed. The guide profile is screwed along the line where the drywall joins the window block using self-tapping screws.

Insulation is laid between the profiles, and then drywall is mounted to the frame. When it is installed, it is sanded and the gaps and irregularities are smoothed out with putty, and only after that they begin to treat with primer. The corners of the drywall should be protected with a galvanized metal profile, which will protect them from delamination. As with plastering, joints window frame and the finished slope is sealed with acrylic putty. It will harden in no less than 12 hours, and only after that the slopes can be painted.

You already know how to make slopes on windows using plaster and drywall. Now let's figure out how to properly use PVC panels. Finishing slopes with PVC panels will take no more than two to three hours. Not every material is suitable for the job, but only panels that are invulnerable to ultraviolet radiation.

In the case of PVC, nothing needs to be primed or painted - the resulting surface only needs to be wiped with a damp cloth.

First, strips of PVC are cut to the width of the slopes. Then a special profile with a snap-in corner is attached to the slope, which will fix the panels in the desired position. In addition, you should fix the panels to the cleaned surface using liquid nails.

If you don’t have the required profile at hand, you can do it in a slightly different way - attach the panels to wooden slats. The slats are pre-leveled and secured using self-tapping screws and dowels. Then the PVC panels are attached to the bars using a stapler along the edges, and the fastening area is closed with special plastic corners. These corners also protect the wallpaper near the window, which is often torn off by the edges by children or animals.

On one installation PVC frames With double-glazed windows, the work with the window opening is not completed - you need to create a frame for it, both from the outside and from the inside. There are several ways to do this, differing in the materials used and working methods. Do you want to learn more about them and understand how to properly make slopes on plastic windows? Then here you will find enough detailed description of these methods with step by step instructions for the execution of work.

How to properly make slopes on plastic windows

DIY slopes for plastic windows

But first, let's look at several reasons why there is a need to install slopes on plastic windows.

  1. First reason– protection of the edges of the frame and the mounting foam on which it rests from damage by dampness and temperature changes. Without slopes, the installation seam of the window will gradually begin to collapse and become unusable.
  2. The second reason– protection of the window opening from cold, rain and drafts, high-quality slopes made of metal, plastic or any other material will provide reliable thermal insulation at the installation seam and will not allow water to penetrate inside. Also, slopes partially play the role of sound insulation
  3. Third reason– decorative. A plastic window in an opening without slopes does not look very beautiful both from the inside and the outside. Therefore, it is framed with metal, plastic, plasterboard or plaster.

Basic requirements for window slopes

On a note! There are four main types of slopes for plastic windows: metal, plastic, plasterboard and plaster.

In the image you can see detailed diagram slope device made of a sandwich panel installed along a leveling profile, with insulation and fastening to decorative corner and polyurethane foam

Frameless glazing of balconies

Among the many available methods of glazing balconies, frameless is considered the most elite. The design contains a minimum number of elements, but each of them is subject to the highest quality requirements. Read this article for more details.

During the construction of private housing in villages, towns and suburbs, slopes made of metal have become very popular. This is largely due to their advantages over other materials.

High strength– slopes made of metal can better withstand mechanical loads compared to similar products made of other materials.

Remember that improperly designed window trim will lead to many troubles.

  • Durability– metal, coated powder paint, is able to serve the home owner for many years, without losing its strength or appearance.
  • Resistance to high and very low temperatures - the metal will not deform when exposed to strong heat, and will not become extremely brittle in very coldy.
  • Attractive and neat appearance.
  • Easy to install– metal slopes on a plastic window do not require much effort and time for installation.

    Decorative plastic slopes

Before we move on to describing the steps to install metal slopes, let’s consider the tools and materials needed to complete this work. For your convenience, they are summarized in the table below.

Table. Installation of external metal slopes - tools and consumables.

Adobe house. It tells about how to arrange door and window openings of adobe (earth-raised) buildings.

Adobe houses are no longer as popular as they used to be. But in vain. After all, adobe is made from clay and is the most environmentally friendly pure material. Adobe houses are warm in winter and cool in summer. The process of making adobe does not require large investments. The material is cheap and practical; erecting walls from adobe also does not require special skills. You can even build from adobe two-story houses. But today we will talk about the construction of windows and doors of an adobe house.

During the construction of earthen (clay, adobe) walls, temporary boxes are left in places where door or window openings are provided, which maintain the integrity of the openings during the construction of the building. After the roofing adobe house You can start inserting windows and doors. To do this, you need to knock out the spacers, then carefully remove the boards.

    Inserting permanent window frames

Window boxes need to be prepared in advance. The box is installed in a strictly vertical position. It should have the same setback from the wall mass on all sides. In this position, the box is fixed with wooden wedges. After installing the block into the opening, before final fastening, you must carefully check the evenness of the block using building level and/or plumb line. The evenness of the installation can also be checked by measuring the diagonals of the block. Each vertical beam of a door/window frame must be attached to the wall in at least two places. To fasten the box, screws and pipe cleaners are used (length - 15 cm).

    Sealing boxes

The gaps between the wall and the frame are sealed polyurethane foam or they are carefully sealed with a rope of tow: loops are stuffed from the rope, with which the groove is clogged. After the final sealing of all the cracks, the space between the wall and the frame must be puttied.

    Window sill device

Windows with inside are equipped with a window sill in which the side slots are closed with slats, and the top gap is closed with a board. Top clearance should be approximately 5 cm wide. The board must be nailed so that the settlement of the walls does not lead to deformation of the window frame.

    Frame preparation

Prefabricated windows, if they are only slightly saturated with paint, must be profiled, then the main paint is applied to them. Now they can be glazed and varnished. The window sashes are hung only after the walls are finished.

    Doors

The installation and installation of doors is carried out in the following sequence: dismantling the temporary frame, aligning and installing the permanent frame, sealing and filling the cracks, hanging door leaf. Therefore, installing a door is an event that has the same internal logic as installing windows.

Thus adobe house arranged with windows and doors. As you can see, this is also a difficult process that requires certain skills and abilities. Happy construction!

What house do you live in? If in adobe, please share your experience of building an adobe house - please comment. Do you want to continue articles about adobe houses?

Adobe itself is a very specific material. It requires good waterproofing. Adobe is clay, sand and a binder. Previously it was straw or sawdust, now they can use mineral wool, but the essence does not change. Water makes the clay soggy and the entire structure can be seriously damaged. Typically, such buildings are common in arid areas. Central Asia and in southern, hot regions. IN middle lane such a house requires serious protection of the walls from external moisture.
Why is so much attention paid to adobe? Yes, it’s very simple - the tightness of PVC window systems requires certain measures to seal and protect the seam. And in the case of adobe, such protection of the entire opening and slopes is necessary. When we discuss the installation method itself in the future, we will come to this issue. Today you can sometimes find adobe houses on summer cottages, but quite rarely. Almost all of them are made in modern style, have modern plastic windows. The design of an adobe house allows it to have a wooden or other frame, and therefore installing plastic windows does not present any special problems. In fact, if you need to buy windows for your summer house, then regardless of the building materials in your home, you can safely buy ordinary windows. But you will need to tinker with the installation, because it is important that the seams are sealed and the window openings are reliable.
    So!

    1. Window opening in a new house.
    2. Replacing an old window with a new one.

Window opening in a new house

    • Frame method.
    • Monolith.

    Frame method

Usually adobe houses are built like this. First, the wooden frame is assembled. Corners of the house, window and door openings, wall joists, for fastening rafters, are assembled from wooden beam or round timber, and then the voids intended for walls are filled with adobe. This is how they have been built since time immemorial. Small dugouts in the south of Ukraine, in the Stavropol Territory and in the Kuban were built exactly this way. This is a kind of Russian half-timbered structure, which is as old as the people who live there. A house built in this way lasts hundreds of years, it is cool in summer and warm in winter. Adobe is an excellent heat insulator. The walls were always made very thick, up to sixty centimeters wide, and the entire load of the roof and ceiling went to the frame, protected by adobe from external environment.
If an adobe house is built according to the ancient methods of our ancestors, then everything is clear and there are no difficulties. Both windows and doors are fixed in wooden frame, very simple and reliable. Is not wooden house, and casing is not needed, the wood does not decrease in length during the drying process, and there is no need to protect against shrinkage. The walls are made of dry adobe bricks, and they also do not shrink. Therefore, the installation of plastic windows in an adobe house of this type is standard, you just need to take the measurements correctly.

    Monolith

The monolithic method is common in Central Asia, where the climate is dry and there is little rainfall. There are two ways. The first is when adobe bricks are used, the second is when formwork is made and filled with fresh adobe. After drying, the formwork is removed and a wall is obtained.
In both cases, to secure doors and windows, it is necessary to make bookmarks. They are made of wood, and then door and window blocks are attached to them.
This must be done without fail and in such a way that the inserted doors and windows are almost flush with the wall area. The fact is that even if you install ebb tides, moisture will still get under them. This is how all houses are built from adobe. Both here and in Europe in the old half-timbered houses, the windows do not have an external niche, so that there is no possibility of moisture retention.

Replacing an old window with a new one

If you change the old window to a new one, then there are no problems at all, there are definitely bookmarks. True, in very old houses, where the windows were made very small, they were sometimes simply smeared into the wall. In this case, you will have to redo the opening. Without rigid fastening, the PVC profile will not be fixed in the opening. You need to make niches in the wall and insert bookmarks. Any other method will lead to cracking of the opening and loss of tightness.

Requirements for fastening PVC window blocks

Installation of plastic windows in an adobe house and beyond must meet three requirements.

    • Thermal insulation.
    • Waterproofing.
    • Vapor barrier.

To ensure all three qualities, there are appropriate materials. The window is attached to the mortgages in the opening using special anchors. The window is inserted into the opening and leveled, both horizontally and vertically. After this, the places that coincide with the bookmarks on the PVC profile are marked. The window is removed, the anchors are fastened with screws, according to the marks and inserted back to secure it to the bookmarks. Such fastening will provide both reliability and strength. The number of anchors depends on the size of the windows. They should be at a distance of no more than seventy centimeters from each other, and no less than forty.
The gap that remains must be closed immediately. There is no need to be afraid to fill the gap with construction foam. This is polyurethane foam and it will not cause any harm or destroy anything. The foam, slowly expanding, will fill all the voids and will be the best heat insulator. Its environmental friendliness has been proven throughout the world. But by definition, it cannot destroy the adobe wall; on the contrary, it will strengthen the opening, and it will become stronger.
But the foam requires protection. It must be protected from moisture, just like adobe. To do this, you need to apply a layer of waterproofing. In this case the most The best way This is a paste sealant. It is necessary to completely hide the foam and the entire seam under a layer of sealant. And this must be done both outside and inside. In winter, moist air from a warm room can penetrate into installation seam, destroying the foam. To prevent this from happening, the installation seam is sealed from the inside in exactly the same way as from the outside.

For those who still believe rumors about the harmfulness of foam

Installation of plastic windows in an adobe house is no different from other installation work. And the requirements for seam sealing are not related to an attempt to increase foam sales, but to the fact that this has been proven for decades and The right way protecting your window from cracking and cracks in the slopes.
The thing is that PVC has a fairly significant linear expansion coefficient. In order not to torment the reader with complex calculations, they are already ready for window PVC profile. It is approximately equal to 0.07 mm per 1 meter of length with a temperature difference of 10 degrees C0. Approximately because profiles different widths and sections. This seems like a minor change. But if you have minus fifteen in winter and plus thirty-five in summer, then the difference in seasonal temperatures is already fifty degrees. And this is 0.35 mm along a length of one meter. This is significant. If you simply seal the seam with adobe, it will not have sufficient elasticity and cracks will appear. Moisture will naturally get into them. The consequences are disastrous not only for the slopes, but also for the wall.
The foam is elastic and durable. It just needs to be protected from cracks in the plaster, which are sure to appear and will expand every year.

Such installation of plastic windows in an adobe house will not burden you with additional expenses. All these materials are included in the list of mandatory use and are available to every specialist who installs windows. They are included in the installation price, as consumables and must be used.
If you do all the work yourself, then buying them, in our time, is not a problem at all.

I decided to install the windows myself (70mm profile), triple glazing, in my house private adobe, lined with brick (total thickness 400mm) At what depth should windows be installed from the outside? How to insulate and make slopes inside and outside the window after installation? Thanks in advance.

According to building regulations and rules window unit must be installed at a depth of 1/3 of the thickness load-bearing wall. If your wall thickness is 400 mm, then (400:3)x2= 266 mm. This means that we measure 134 mm from the outside to the installation line of the double-glazed window and the window will stand along this line. But, here a problem arises if the house is lined with brick flooring, and this is 120 mm, and between brickwork and there is a wall air gap, then it may not be possible to accurately maintain the installation size of 134 mm. Therefore, it would be correct to install the window unit almost flush with the adobe wall. All gaps between the window block and the walls of the opening are filled with polyurethane foam, and only foam, not clay. Foam does not destroy the wall material; on the contrary, it fills all the smallest recesses in the walls and reliably connects the window block to the adobe. The only thing that must be done is, before using the foam, moisten with a spray bottle all surfaces of the window opening with which the foam will come into contact.

Gap with outside The windows between the brickwork and the wall can also be foamed, and if its size allows, then thin polystyrene foam, polyurethane foam, etc. can be installed in it. Then the surface of the slopes is leveled with plaster, a sickle mesh and finishing plaster are glued onto it. You can also additionally glue a strip of foam plastic, then a serpyanka mesh and then work on it finishing external slope.

To finish internal slopes, you can use plaster or plastic. Plaster is in most cases used to perform such work, as it has excellent characteristics.

Since your house is made of adobe and the walls of such a house breathe very well, it is best to use plaster on the slopes, which has similar properties.

Initially, the first layer of coarse-grained material is applied to the surface of the slope. plaster mixture, with its help the surface of the slopes is leveled. To obtain an even slope line, special perforated corners are installed.

After completely dry starting putty, a fine-grained finish is applied, each layer of which is processed with sandpaper.

Depending on the surface defects of the window opening, there may be several such layers, so they must be applied in thin layers - like starting layers as well as finishing layers, otherwise the entire plaster may simply move away from the wall of the house and collapse. After drying, the slopes can be painted in any color.

If you use plastic. When choosing such a material, it is worth considering that plastic is a fairly airtight material and if an adobe house breathes and is not heated in cold weather, then moisture will collect under the finishing. It will not reach the surface of the plastic, but over time it may begin to destroy the structure of the building material.

Plastic is very practical and can be used in slopes on any surface. It does not absorb moisture and is very easy to clean. About its service life we can say that it ends when deformed plastic plate. And so the material can last a very long time.

In my own way appearance has a large assortment, and create original design slopes will not be difficult.

Plastic can be mounted on a slope only on a special sheathing and it is not necessary to do it too much to finish the slopes high altitude. This can hide the space of the window opening itself.

To prevent moisture from collecting under this type of finish, before installation on a slope it is worth doing preparatory work. They consist of isolation. For this purpose, lightweight materials are used, such as polystyrene foam or polyurethane foam of small thickness. They are cut and inserted into the sheathing.

You can choose plastic whose width will correspond to the width of the slope. Thus, it is possible to save money and time on finishing.

Installation of such material is quite simple. It uses a starter strip that is attached at the bottom and top of the slope and plastic strips or panels are inserted into it. The fastening elements are special locks, which are located at their end.

There are plastic sandwiches with insulation (see photo on the right), but this is not suitable for arranging slopes in your home.

The turmoil associated with an important change, the purchase of plastic windows, is the choice of profile, design, fittings, but not only. A decision has to be made regarding the slopes. Without the help of specialists, you can make different types of slopes, save some money and buy a more expensive window sill, for example.

The downside is that, most likely, it will not be possible to repair the windows under warranty. On the other hand, they should not break. The guarantee is only insurance.

Often it is necessary to insulate a window opening; the quality of the “original” slopes is not satisfactory. Only by dismantling the old ones and improving them with insulation will the situation be changed.

Mosaics made of glass, mirror splashes, fragments, relief surfaces and other extravagant design options are created separately, mostly by hand. Do-it-yourself photos of slopes made from different materials will help you make a choice. But a lot depends on the specifics of the installation work, its simplicity or complexity, and accessibility.

    Pros and cons of plaster

Increasing the slope by plastering is the most basic way to design a window opening. No need to buy tools or modern materials. Previously, people only plastered walls on their own and coped with this task perfectly.

    Disadvantages of this method:

    • the surface may end up being uneven;
    • It is advisable to additionally insulate such slopes;
    • The work will take quite a lot of time, because you will need to apply the building mixture in several layers and let each one dry.

If you try, the new slopes will still turn out smooth and beautiful. As they say, the eyes are afraid, but the hands do. You should buy the necessary materials and begin to restore the natural design that is usual for apartments and houses.

It is important to take into account that in the end the slope will not look as harmonious with the windows as a plastic one. The sense of novelty and progress will be lost. But it will be cozy, and beauty in a “retro” style will return to the house.

The harmony of the design of a window opening is understood differently by different people. This applies not only to curtains, the choice of plants, the color of the window sill, the color of the windows, but also to the slopes.

    Installation features

How to make slopes with your own hands when the plaster wrinkles without defects? It is easier to make the surface if you use special plaster beacons.

The first one is attached next to the window frame, close. As a result, the distance of the overlap of the slope onto the frame should be about 50 mm. Beacons are also needed at the outer corners of the window opening. These areas are subject to greater stress, this element strengthens them.

Painting corners help improve the effect, achieve optimal results, and form the correct angle. They are attached using gypsum putty.

To prevent the plaster from cracking, before starting to create a new surface, the old one must be thoroughly cleaned. You can achieve better adhesion of new materials to the surface if you make notches, although this is not necessary.

The surface must be coated with a primer. For plastering, a mixture of cement and sand is used in proportions of 1 to 2. Dry gypsum plaster is ideal for the upper slope.

Each layer is applied as carefully as possible, it is allowed to dry, leveled with a spatula, then the next one is applied. Sanding the last layer is a responsible process. You will not need a spatula, but a sanding machine or sandpaper - with large grains and finer ones.

A sealant that can be used before painting will help eliminate cracks in the corners, along the line where the slope connects with the window frame or wall.

That's all, the slopes are ready. The surface is primed and painted in the desired color. If insulation is provided, it is necessary, after removing old slopes, treating the walls with primer, putty, to install insulating material, fix it with foam or with nails intended for this. Then apply plaster.

Slopes made of plasterboard - many advantages

Installing slopes with your own hands from plasterboard is difficult at first glance. They do everything “scientifically,” as they say. Because of this, perhaps, the result is luxurious - the windows are neat, stylish, fashionable. True, you will need special tools that not every home has.

People are used to needing a hammer to hammer a nail, but it turned out that it is more practical to purchase a screwdriver. In a country house, a hammer is relevant, but in an apartment with modern renovation it is not. And all because of drywall.

This is a light weight material, cut with a grinder. With its help, it is possible to create a perfectly flat surface in a short time. Such slopes can be repaired in case of minor damage using putty.

The disadvantage is that it is not resistant to moisture. Be sure to use a primer. It cannot be used to decorate surfaces on the street side.

They begin with the installation of the frame: a metal profile and guides are attached. Then the insulation is fixed and sheets of drywall are installed. The sides are sheathed first, and then the top.

If desired, if you have the skill, you can get the job done faster than if you choose plastering. Do-it-yourself door slopes are also often made from this material. It is beautiful and practical.

    Sandwich panels for slopes

How to make slopes on windows with your own hands without extra effort? Sandwich panels are what you need. By purchasing them, you can simultaneously complete the decor and insulate the window opening. They come in different colors and are easy to fix.

In order to put the slopes in order, in this case it is not necessary to remove the old ones, but it is desirable - a truly durable surface will be created that will last for many years. If you decorate an old surface with sandwich panels, the duration of their operation will depend on its condition.

The starter profile is placed next to the frame, and a wooden strip is taken for the outer edge. The sandwich panel is attached to them using screws and self-tapping screws.

Polyurethane foam carefully fills the void between the panel and the wall. The decorative profile is put on the corners and fixed. All that remains is to wipe the new surface and remove dust. The slopes are done, the new design will delight the eye with the beauty of modern materials and their combination.
