The better to finish the foundation of the house outside. Decorating the basement of the house: materials, options and methods, technology, what is the best? Side surface finishing with decorative plaster

Is the box of the new house ready and is it time to start decorating it?

But you have not fully thought through the options, or have not decided on the finish of the basement? We are in a hurry to help you.

After all, only correctly selected materials and their combination with each other will give the facades completeness and make them beautiful. Consider finishing options from various materials on the construction market.

A plinth is a part of the outer wall that sits at the foot of the building and encloses the underground space of the house. In some houses it is an independent element erected above the foundation, in others it is a part of the foundation itself, which protrudes above the ground level (strip foundations). In both cases, he needs protection.

The basement can be sunken, protruding, or be in the same plane with the walls of the house.

The most reliable is the sunken, it is easier to protect it from mechanical and weather influences, there is no need to arrange a drain. From an aesthetic point of view, a building with such a plinth is more attractive.

Protruding plinth arrange in houses with thin walls, for example, frame or chopped, as well as in the event that the house has a warm underground. With such a device, a drain installation is additionally required to remove atmospheric precipitation.

It is not advisable to arrange the plinth flush with the wall. In this case, it is more difficult to perform waterproofing.

But whatever the basement of your house, it must be well protected with a layer of waterproofing. From the point of view of economy in the further operation of the building, it is better to make it from reliable materials that do not need additional decorative finishing (monolithic concrete, fired brick, stone). It is enough to grout and paint the basement of the monolith foundation.

How to decorate the basement of the house if you want its appearance to be more attractive? We propose to consider several options.

Finishing the foundation of the house with decorative plaster

Decorative plaster (however, like many facing materials) is applied to a previously prepared surface: cleaned and primed. Before applying some types of plaster, a mineral-based reinforcing mass is used.

If the basement has significant irregularities and geometric deviations, as well as in cases where the plaster layer exceeds 12 mm, a reinforcing mesh is attached before applying the decorative composition to increase the strength of the plaster mortar and its better adhesion to the base. The mesh can be woven, welded, braided.

If the thickness of the plaster layer is small, a fiberglass mesh can be used. Any reinforcing mesh used prevents the plaster from cracking during further use of the house.

The applied decorative layer can be smooth, rough, made with joining or using impressions for various materials. For this purpose, special rollers and dies are used. The finishing layer of the plastered surface is often various facade paints.

Decorative finishing of the basement of the house with facing materials

A wide variety of materials are used for cladding: porcelain stoneware, clinker tiles, natural facing stone, siding, profiled sheet. The main thing is that the chosen material is in harmony with the facades and roofing material.

Porcelain stoneware has increased durability, frost resistance and wear resistance, as well as decorative properties.

The plinth faced with porcelain stoneware tiles looks great in combination with the porch, which is finished with the same material. The porcelain stoneware foundations are more restrained.

Clinker tiles are very decorative, creates the feeling of a plinth lined with clinker bricks. But since the brick itself is a rather expensive building material, finishing with clinker panels will save money, while the lined element will not look cheap.

In addition, with the help of such a tile, you can decorate not only the basement, but also part of the walls or corners of the building. Natural shades of clinker tiles are perfectly combined with natural tiles and many other roofing materials.

Clinker tiles (as well as porcelain stoneware tiles) can be glued onto a frost-resistant adhesive or mounted on a special frame system (when installing a ventilated facade). The second method of the base device is more expensive than the first, but the most reliable. In addition, insulation can be performed between the frame and the wall.

The tiles are glued according to the principle of laying any other ceramics, the only difference is that the ground level is variable along the perimeter of the building. In this connection, we calculate the number of rows (based on the width of the tiles and the thickness of the intended seams), measure out the line of the second row from the bottom, draw a horizontal line, for convenience we mount the starting auxiliary bar.

After laying the tiles, it is necessary to seal the joints with a mortar for jointing, which is special for outdoor use.

Facing stone natural and artificial- another decorative material for finishing the basement of the building.

Natural stone is very strong and environmentally friendly, durable and beautiful. This is perhaps the most ancient building material.

Granite, marble, sandstone, used in the exterior and interior decoration of the house, speaks of the high status of the owner, as it is the most expensive material. Natural stone is laid on a cement mortar.

Alternative - artificial finishing stone for those who do not see their facade with a different material, and it is not possible to acquire a natural one.

Artificial stone is produced with imitation of various rocks and a rich color palette. Its weight is much lower than natural stone, which facilitates the installation process.

Plastic panels (PVC) imitating various materials (stone, brick, wood) have also become widely used in the decoration of the basement and facades in general. But basement siding differs from the facade composition. It is more resistant to mechanical damage.

Modern siding panels for outdoor decoration can withstand both very low (-50 o C) and very high (+60 o C) temperatures, therefore they are used with great success for finishing work.

Installation of panels is carried out along guides (vertical or horizontal), panels are joined together using grooves and ridges. On sale you can find large and small-sized PVC cladding elements.

It is possible to decorate the foundation of the house from the outside with galvanized or polymer-coated profiled sheets. This type of finish is economical and easy to install. The foundation will be reliably protected from external influences and will serve for a long time.

All types of finishes are good, choose your option, but do not forget that the chosen material should not stand out from the general picture. Harmony can be achieved only if all materials - from the basement to the roof - are combined with each other.

In order for the decoration of the basement of a private house to last as long as possible, it is necessary to choose not only aesthetically attractive, but also practical materials intended for use in a humid environment. It will be better if they can withstand mechanical influences.

The basement of the building after facing takes on a different look

The part of the foundation protruding beyond the ground usually carries not only an architectural, but also a functional load. With its help, it is possible to move the walls of the building to a certain height, leveling and protecting them from negative influences. The distance from the ground to the top edge should not be less than 40 cm.

The plinth can be erected using:

  • monolithic reinforced concrete;
  • building bricks of a suitable brand;
  • ready-made reinforced concrete blocks.

Metal sheets can be attached directly to horizontal purlins using self-tapping screws. The presence of additional elements in the form of abutment strips improves the appearance of the cladding.

Fiber cement panels for finishing the basement of private houses

The products are made on the basis of cement and wood fibers using hot pressing. The outer surface of the panels is laminated or coated with a protective layer. In terms of design possibilities, panels are a promising option, as they are able to imitate other materials.

The photo with the finishing of the basement of a private house demonstrates the aesthetic possibilities of the presented products. In the production of fiber cement panels, dyes with increased resistance to ultraviolet radiation are used, therefore, even with prolonged use, the colors do not fade.

Side surface finishing with decorative plaster

Not very costly in financial terms, but a rather laborious way of facing the basement is plastering. First, the surface of the structure is leveled with a cement-sand mixture, after which a decorative layer is applied on top. If necessary, dried plaster is painted with moisture resistant paints.

High-quality has the following advantages:

  • resistance to temperature extremes;
  • immunity to ultraviolet radiation;
  • increased moisture resistance;
  • the possibility of tinting;
  • long operational period;
  • cost-effectiveness.

Note! Cement, acrylic and silicone plasters are suitable for external use. With regard to gypsum compositions, they should only be used for work indoors in dry rooms.

Decorating the basement of a house is one of the important stages that suburban homeowners face when carrying out construction work. Do-it-yourself cladding of the foundation and the basement can be done quickly enough - for this you need to choose suitable finishing materials (or still invite specialists to perform the entire range of works).

Several of the most popular options for finishing the basement can be distinguished, but not all of them can be used in certain conditions. The visual aspect is also important, because if the main building material is not combined with the facing, the design of the house will look ugly and inappropriate.

It is also worth noting that in most cases, before starting the finishing work with your own hands, it is necessary to level the surface of the basement. For this, a special plaster is used.

The construction of the basement of the house may be as follows:

  • Flush with the wall. The plinth is inseparable from the foundation and is an immediate part of it.
  • Protrudes beyond the wall level. In the presence of a protruding base, it is recommended to consider the option with the device of an additional heat-insulating layer, but it will not work to provide decent protection against mechanical damage. By the way, plaster will help level the protruding surface.
  • Falls over the level of the wall. Such a base is best protected from external factors. Clinker tiles are well suited for finishing the lower part of the foundation. Slim models can be selected. In this case, the load on the upper part of the foundation will be small.

The choice of finishing material

Facing the basement of the house and the foundation with your own hands should be done only if the finishing material is suitable for the main one, you know how to work with it, and you are sure of its choice.

The plinth finish must take into account the level of impact on the foundation. Light materials, of course, will not have any effect, but, for example, a stone will create a significant additional load on all parts of the base.

Finishing with bricks

If you decide to finish the lower part of the house with bricks, then know that you have chosen the most common option. This type of cladding has many advantages that are not found in other finishing materials. The modern market offers a huge selection of finishing bricks of different colors and textures, so it will be quite simple to choose the right option to match the house. Decorating the basement with bricks can be done by hand. To level the surface, plaster is again needed.

Facing brick.

The main advantages of brick finishing:

  • A high level of strength of the entire structure and the ability to do the work with your own hands.
  • does not need special care and can serve its owners for more than a dozen years.

In addition, the maintainability of the brick cladding is noted - damaged elements can be easily replaced with new ones.

  • Finishing the plinth with bricks is harmless to human health and the environment.
  • The material perfectly resists temperature extremes and different humidity.
  • Brick today is offered at quite affordable prices, unlike many other finishing materials.

Natural or artificial stone

If you are planning to perform cladding using natural or artificial stone, then you need to pay attention to the quality of the purchased material and the possibility of its use in certain conditions. Natural stone is resistant to temperature extremes and frost. Plaster in several layers or a special adhesive composition is suitable as a base for the stone (any plaster can be used, including waterproof).

A natural stone.

The plinth facing can be done with the following types of stones:

  1. Sea or river. These stones boast a high level of mineralization. This characteristic was created by nature due to constant contact with water, therefore, this type of facing will be 100% resistant to the effects of sedimentary waters.
  2. Sandstone and limestone can also be used. Stones of this type have excellent strength characteristics, while being quite affordable, in contrast to sea stone. If you do all the work on finishing the basement and foundation with your own hands, then the total cost of finishing will not be high at all.
  3. The base is also finished with marble. Of course, this is the most expensive option of all. Marble has excellent performance and performance characteristics.

Among the main advantages of finishing the basement and foundation, in this case, one can single out:

  • enviable durability of the material;
  • ecological purity of stones;
  • uniqueness of textures and colors.

Of course, here it is worth noting the disadvantages:

  • finishing work on the basement can only be done after the house has shrunk;
  • natural stone is a heavy finishing material, so you have to calculate the load on the upper part of the foundation;
  • high material cost (especially marble and sea stone).

Siding

Siding is one of the most widespread and popular materials for finishing the basement and foundation in recent years. This facing material is used everywhere and is especially widespread abroad.

Vinyl siding.

Among the main advantages of using siding for finishing the basement are the following:

  • It turns out a fairly simple design that you can do yourself.
  • The siding has a high maintainability - it is enough just to replace the damaged panel with a new one, which does not require additional costs and time.
  • Siding panels have a minimum weight, so there is no need to calculate the load on the foundation. When installing the siding, a crate is used, into which, if desired, any heat-insulating material can be laid.
  • The coating is not exposed to low or high temperatures and high humidity. Siding is a great solution.
  • The siding does not need special care, it is enough only to occasionally clean the surface of the material from dirt and dust.
  • The market offers many colors and textures of the material. You can find siding options made for stone, brick, tile, wood and other traditional materials. You can only understand that this is an imitation up close.
  • The material is extremely easy to do-it-yourself installation.

Naturally, like any other building material, siding has its drawbacks:

  • not the best thermal insulation properties;
  • the need for grouting with special compounds;
  • exposure to strong mechanical stress (for example, accidental impact with a shovel).

Despite this, siding of the basement is by far the most popular option.

Tile

When finishing the basement with tiles, you need to take into account the fact that it will be difficult to do the work with your own hands if you do not have certain building experience. If possible, then for this it is best to hire specialists who can quickly and correctly install the tiles, observing all norms and standards of construction.

Use of tiles.

The main advantages of this type of finish:

  • There is a wide variety of tiles on the market, so you can easily choose the right option for decorating the exterior of a country house. In addition, the tiles are available in a wide variety of sizes.
  • If you do not want the top of the foundation to protrude too much, the option with a tiled basement is ideal.
  • The tile perfectly resists temperature and humidity.
  • If the work is nevertheless done by hand, then it will be possible to significantly save on paying for the services of builders.
  • Good tile models are sold at affordable prices today.

Without flaws again nowhere, so you need to highlight them as well:

  • Installation of tiles for finishing the basement can only be done during the warm season.
  • The material does not have good thermal insulation properties, so an additional layer of insulation will have to be laid under it.
  • It is very difficult to do the work with your own hands, even if you have certain construction skills.

The choice of material for finishing the basement is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. It is enough just to check the compatibility of materials and evaluate the possibility of facing the basement of the building with one or another finish. Special plaster can be used to level the surface before finishing. This plaster is applied in several layers and hides the imperfections of the walls, which can negatively affect the finishing material.

The plaster is poured onto the surface and then leveled.

When finishing the basement with your own hands, you need to carefully study the technology for performing the work, so that later everything does not have to be redone.

In construction, an important point is insulation and protection from external factors of any element, its quality will affect energy consumption, optimal microclimate and the service life of parts of the building. Since the foundation of any building is the foundation, I will discuss below about its decorative finish and protection of the basement from moisture and other factors.

Finishing the foundation with facing stone

What material to choose

Facing the foundation is a do-it-yourself task, the main thing is to choose the best material that will combine all the necessary properties. By the way, the cladding of the foundation can also be carried out during the repair of the old foundation. First you need to understand - why do you need foundation cladding? Although the foundations of houses are erected from durable materials, they also need to be protected from moisture, precipitation, wind, mechanical damage and other adverse factors. Therefore, the cladding of the foundation is initially the protection of the base of the house and the preservation of its operational properties for a long time. Also, processing the base will help protect the basement from moisture and cold and decorate the house. Since the construction market is replete with the necessary materials, our task is to choose the best one.

Plinth finish with stone

A widespread finish is decorative plaster, its qualities and properties in modern construction fulfill all the necessary conditions for high-quality surface treatment. This finish is an inexpensive and unpretentious option as a foundation design and protection.

But I would not use plaster for several reasons - firstly, it is a laborious process, and secondly, there are many other materials that can provide high-quality home protection and create a noble appearance. Moreover, protecting the basement from cold and moisture requires thermal insulation qualities.

Of course, you can use a variety of siding and slabs, but nothing brings as much nobility to a home as facing stone. Therefore, I opt for sandstone, and you will find out what it is just below.

Natural stone cladding

Noble finishes

The cladding of the foundation should fulfill not only its direct purpose, but also act as a decorative element of the basement floor. Natural stone has always been a noble and durable building material, so the stone finish of the basement looks harmonious and rich.

DIY plinth decoration

Choosing from all the options, I settled on sandstone, which has many properties:

  1. Facing stone is a time-tested natural building material. Its lifespan is mind-boggling, more home renovation required than old sandstone. The brick foundation, faced with sandstone, looks noble and natural.
  2. The strength of the material allows it to withstand heavy physical exertion, therefore, elements protected by sandstone do not lend themselves to mechanical damage.
  3. Repairing an old subfloor with sandstone will help create excellent moisture protection.
  4. Due to the ease of installation, you can revet a brick foundation with your own hands.
  5. Due to its porous structure, sandstone has some thermal insulation properties, which allows to reduce heat loss through the basement floor.
  6. Facing stone is great for finishing a variety of surfaces, be it the facade of a house, interior walls or a brick foundation.
  7. Facing stone looks equally harmonious on a brick house as on a wooden one. Not everyone will be able to imagine what kind the cottage creates, the base of which is faced with sandstone.
  8. The natural texture and patterns of sandstone blend perfectly with a variety of architectural styles.

Plinth finish with natural stone

Combining all of the above advantages, facing stone perfectly protects a brick foundation or any other type of foundation. It should be noted that a brick foundation is the optimal surface for finishing with natural materials. Such a basis is easy to process, which allows you to revet the surface with sandstone with your own hands in a short time.

Sheathing of foundation surfaces

Facing stone is a rather undemanding element, so you can do the repair of the old basement floor from the outside yourself.

The following tools came in handy for repairs:

  • A metal brush is essential for surface preparation and cleaning.
  • A chisel and a hammer will be needed in case of repair, to remove the old coating (plaster).
  • The ax came in handy for making notches for better adhesion to the surface.
  • I prepared a spray gun or brush for applying the primer.

Finishing the foundation with stone

If the foundation is heterogeneous, which is rare, a construction mesh is used, I did without it.

Having prepared the necessary tools, I proceeded to repair the outer surface of the basement floor. He performed all the relevant work on the preparation of the surface, cleaned it well and covered it with a high-quality primer. Next, I took a specialized glue for laying stone and gradually began to lay out my future masterpiece. The seams between the elements were filled with mortar and carefully processed. The result is a great basement floor view.

We start to make the cladding from the corner

Finishing the screw foundation

Houses with brick foundations have a huge advantage over their fellows. The fact is that the construction of the pile foundation does not allow sandstone finishing, so the question immediately arises - how to close the pile foundation from the outside. For me, this question was quite interesting, because it is simply necessary to close the basement from moisture and cold, and you also need to arrange the bottom of the building. But if a brick foundation can be finished with sandstone, what solution can be found here?
Why come up with such a complex foundation, for which it is also difficult to pick up the finishing later - you ask. But a screw foundation is the only optimal solution for unstable and heaving soils. It is the screw foundation that is able to penetrate to great depths and provide reliable support for the house. And the choice of finishing the basement is quite possible with the help of such material as professional sheet.

Facing the plinth with a metal profile

This material appeared as early as 1820 and is very widespread in the construction industry. The profiled sheet is made of galvanized steel using cold rolled products, after which it is subjected to the creation of the required shape - trapezoidal, wavy. This is done more for stiffness than for beauty. Professional sheet is a unique material used in the construction of new buildings and the renovation of old ones. Steel sheet is used not only for finishing basements, but also for repairing roofs and walls. In the assortment you can find profiled sheets for facing stone or "wooden" element. This choice made me very happy, because with the help of it it is easy to create a unique style with your own hands.

In the assortment you can find profiled sheets for facing stone or "wooden" element

Facing the screw base with your own hands

Usually, screw foundations are used in the construction of light houses, for example, wooden ones. Therefore, the decorative finish of the screw foundation must be in harmony with the wooden elements. Fortunately, I found imitation stone in the variety of profiled sheets that go well with wooden houses. It turns out an imitation of a completely natural, natural home.

Professional sheet "under the stone"

Sheathing a screw foundation is not difficult, so I took it myself and adhering to the following scheme, I did an excellent job:

  • For the base of the sheets, I made a wooden crate, having previously impregnated the parts with an antiseptic solution.
  • To avoid deformation of the sheets under the influence of heaving soils, I left a gap between the ground and the element. To do this, I made sanding at the junction of the earth and parts to a depth of 500 mm.
  • The very fastening of the sheets to the wooden crate I made with self-tapping screws. To avoid dents, I tried not to tighten the fasteners too much.
  • I covered the joints of the material and the corners with additional elements.

So, with a little effort, you can revet your foundation yourself.

You can decorate the basement of the house with various materials that can reliably protect the upper part of the foundation from getting wet, solar ultraviolet radiation, and mechanical damage. Usually, brick, clinker, masonry or siding is used - polymer or composite panels that imitate masonry in a high quality.

All types of cladding are available on the construction markets. Before deciding which material is best suited for the architectural style of a cottage, the following factors must be considered:

  • the protruding base will have to be additionally protected with ebb tides;
  • flexible shingles have a minimum layer thickness, which can be used to glue over a concrete surface;
  • the brickwork maximizes the construction of the basement;
  • inside the frames on which panels, siding or corrugated board are attached, you can lay insulation to eliminate heat loss through the ceilings, floors of the lower floor;
  • frame systems by default have greater maintainability, they can be updated at any time of operation.

Advice! It is better to decorate the protruding base before facing the facades, in order to hide the upper fixing shelf of the ebb, if necessary, under the finishing material of the wall.

Brickwork

To cover the base with a brick, it is necessary to make a separate base for masonry. On heaving soils, for this it is necessary to replace 40 cm of soil with crushed stone and / or sand, compacted in layers.

Unlike a concrete foundation, this facing material has half the life in contact with the ground. On top of the underlying layer, roll waterproofing is required in 2 - 3 layers. To completely eliminate the subsidence of the brickwork, a rigid bond with a plinth is used:

  • after laying 2 - 3 rows in the supporting structure, blind holes are drilled to a depth of 4 - 6 cm;
  • 6 - 10 mm reinforcement is inserted into them, connecting the main wall with the cladding;

It is recommended to use ceramic bricks, slotted, hollow stone or hyper-pressed modifications. Laying is carried out exclusively in spoon rows in half a brick. To eliminate the cold bridge, which is essentially a basement structure, basalt wool or extruded polystyrene foam can be placed between the facing brick and the supporting structure.

Important! The insulation must be docked with the thermal insulation of the facade or brought along the upper part of the basement inside under the layer of wall cladding in the absence of thermal insulation.

Clinker

You can decorate the ground part of the foundation of the house with clinker tiles. The budget will be approximately equal to the cladding brickwork. However, this material has some advantages:

  • the maximum possible service life of all known linings;
  • the presence of ready-made corner (external / internal) elements;
  • wall mounting, no need for your own foundation;
  • insignificant loading of the load-bearing frame due to the low weight of the clinker;
  • high artistic value of the decorative coating.

There are different types of clinker tiles that imitate masonry, torn, rocky, polished stone. Therefore, you can choose a basement design option in full accordance with the architectural style of a private cottage.

Clinker tiles are fixed with glue, panels made of this material are attached to the frame. The first option does not allow insulating the ground part of the foundation, the second allows you to install expanded polystyrene inside the crate.

Advice! There is a clinker tile for steps, which allows, when finishing with the same base / plinth material, to achieve the maximum aesthetics of the perception of facades.

Polymer sand tiles

An inexpensive option for finishing the basement of a house is a polymer-sand composite, from which tiles of various formats are made. This material is very light, practically does not load the foundation structure, it is attached either to the frame lathing or to tile glue.

The texture usually imitates natural stone or brickwork. The material is moisture resistant, with a minimum coefficient of expansion, resistant to solar ultraviolet radiation, aggressive environments and mechanical damage. The tiles are cut with a hand hacksaw in any direction; you can choose any format to reduce cutting waste.

Important! There are no filler pieces for this cladding, so a precise fit at corners and fillets is required.

A natural stone

If there is a cheap natural stone in the region, you can decorate the basement of the house with this material. This option is more suitable for buildings with seasonal residence, in which external insulation of the underground and aboveground parts of the foundation is not required. Heavy material is planted on mortar or tile glue, significantly loads the power frame of the cottage, it does not hold on to the insulation.

Granite, gravel, dolomite stone has high strength and moisture resistance. However, when facing, many mortar joints are obtained that do not initially possess the indicated characteristics. Therefore, finishing costs increase for the purchase of grout, which ensures the waterproofing of the joints.

Important! The stone cannot be fixed on the frames, therefore, the maintainability of the facing is zero.

Fake diamond

Of all the modifications of artificial stone, concrete slabs with a decorative outer layer are usually used for finishing the basement of a house. To improve the characteristics, the material is modified with moisture-resistant additives, colored by weight to increase the wear resistance of the front surface.

Fastening of artificial stone is standard - an adhesive layer after the foundation has been treated with a primer. This cladding can be used with all facade coatings. Integration into exterior and architectural style is high by default.

Tiles, porcelain stoneware

To finish the basement of a house with tiles or porcelain stoneware, you will first have to level the surfaces. The thickness of the adhesive layer should not exceed 1 cm, modifications can only be used for external work.

Porcelain stoneware is much stronger, tiles have a wider assortment, a richer choice of textures, colors and formats. Therefore, when using tiles, you can reduce the consumption of a cut. The material slightly loads the foundation, the seams are rubbed with special moisture-resistant compounds.

Important! The tile is not a full-fledged waterproofing material. Therefore, the surface of the basement before facing can and should be treated with a primer, coated with bituminous mastic. The tile does not hold on steklohydroizol.

Plaster

The budget option for finishing the basement of the house is traditionally the leveling of surfaces with plaster, putty solutions. However, these materials require protection from moisture, additional decoration. Therefore, they are painted with water-based, dispersed, acrylic, acrylate and oil compositions.

The same materials are used in wet facades, as they are quite firmly adhered to expanded polystyrene or basalt wool when using reinforcing meshes. Therefore, the basement of a building with seasonal use can simply be plastered and painted, the basement of a permanent residence is better to insulate and plaster and cover with decorative plaster.

Ground siding

Vinyl plinth siding is a better choice for a building on a tight budget. Despite the name, this material is often used to finish the entire facades from the outside. For example, a budget "frame" can be completely sheathed with basement siding, giving the dwelling the architecture of a brick cottage.

Photo of a panel of vinyl basement siding, imitating brick.

Unlike standard linear panels, basement siding is produced in the form of modules with dimensions of about 1.2 x 0.5 m 18 - 30 mm thick. The texture usually imitates stone or masonry; the panels have locks to connect to each other. Insulation can be laid inside the crate of the frame, reducing the heat loss of the building.

Important! The widest range of accessories is at the basement siding. In addition to ebbs and corners, manufacturers produce starting, finishing strips and clamps for hidden fastening of panels.

Professional list

Facing the ground part of the foundation with corrugated board is a budget option. At the same time, the facades are obtained with low artistic value, therefore it is better to use this cladding for outbuildings. Installation is carried out on a frame made of a bar or a galvanized profile, fixed to the base from the outside.

Sheets can be fixed to the purlins with rivets or self-tapping screws. For the profiled sheet, there are additional elements that allow you to qualitatively decorate the outer and inner corners, to install ebb tides over the base.

Important! When choosing a corrugated board, there is practically no waste of cutting, since you can order sheets of the required height, mounted without fitting.

Flexible roof tiles

This method of cladding the ground part of the foundation, in principle, is not the intended use of the roof cladding. Flexible shingles are very thin, cannot hide even minor flatness defects, therefore, they require a perfectly flat base.

This decoration technology is more suitable for picking up columnar or pile-grillage foundations. A crate is stuffed along the load-bearing vertical elements or girders are attached, asbestos-cement sheets are hung on them, their surface can be pasted over with flexible bitumen tiles, additionally secured with self-tapping screws. Usually they choose the types of tiles that are as close as possible to the stone.

The use of fiber cement composite materials for finishing the basement of the house allows you to provide a 20 - 30 year resource. The panel is created from a mixture of cement and wood fibers by hot pressing, the outer surface is laminated or covered with a protective layer. They are made to imitate various materials - wood, brick, stone.

In addition to weather resistance and self-contained face design, fiber cement panels are self-cleaning properties. Dust and dirt are washed off by rain or water from a hose. Panel locks are supplemented with sealing elements that ensure high tightness of the facing layer.

Photo of a plinth made of fiber cement panels

Thus, the plinth can be decorated in many ways, depending on the available construction budget, the architectural style of the building and the preferences of the owner. It is necessary to focus on the resource of the coatings, the weight of the cladding, the thickness and the price of materials.
