DIY plaster bricks. Imitation of brickwork with your own hands. Using a real wall

Brickwork brings a special zest to the interior, which is why it is widely used for cladding. If you want to decorate a room, you don’t have to buy ordinary bricks, which are expensive and, after installation, will significantly reduce the area of the room. The simplest and quick way- do imitation brickwork using cardboard, plaster or regular paints.

Drawing bricks on the wall

Try to draw the necessary cladding elements on top plain wallpaper or on the wall itself (painted). Although this method will not give all the completeness, volume and realism of the picture, it is still popular due to a number of positive aspects:
— Distinctive simplicity of execution. All you need to do is draw the surface into rectangles the right size, not forgetting about the “seams”, and then paint in the selected colors.
— Variety in design. What size the bricks and the gaps between them will be, only you decide, guided by your desire.
- Saving money. You will only have to spend money on buying brushes and paints.

Let's consider step by step instructions creating painted brickwork:
Step 1: make markings on the wall, drawing bricks and gaps between them.
Step 2: decide on the color of the future bricks.

Step 3: paint the brick wall, painting them one color and the seams between them another.
Step 4: in order to decorate our wall and enliven the room, we will create decorative windows. We use masking tape to mark the outlines of the windows, which we then paint over.
Step 5: using narrow masking tape, create the outlines of the bricks around the perimeter of the window, and then paint them in the main color of the bricks.
Step 6: draw a landscape in the center of the windows.

Painted brickwork

Wall cladding, using the drawing method, turns out to be not entirely natural and aesthetic, so this method is used for finishing household and auxiliary premises. To decorate your living room, you can use the following methods:
— creation of gypsum decorative bricks;
- decor made of foam bricks.

Imitation of brickwork made of gypsum

Manufactured with my own hands decorative gypsum bricks can rightfully compete with factory-made decorative elements.
To make gypsum bricks, you do not need special construction experience or huge financial investments. All you need is your desire and a little skill.

Below are instructions for making gypsum bricks:
Stage 1: preparing the mold to create a brick with a thickness of 5 to 20 mm. Thinner bricks become brittle; thicker bricks will require more plaster to grout the joints. Another nuance: large bricks visually make the room smaller.
Stage 2: mixing the mortar for bricks. Gradually pour water into the dry plaster mixture, kneading thoroughly. The solution should be thick and viscous, like sour cream. The prepared mold for the brick is greased with soap or petroleum jelly dissolved in water, after which the gypsum solution is poured into it.

Stage 3: execution of decorative brickwork. Mark the surface. Draw a line below where the masonry will begin. Lay out the first row of bricks, remembering to leave space for gaps between them. Next rows stack using a checkerboard pattern. If you slightly break the edges of the outer bricks, you can achieve a greater resemblance to real brickwork.

Brickwork in the interior

Gypsum bricks are fixed to the surface using a special glue, which is applied to the wall with a notched trowel. Time completely dry cladding - 2 - 3 days, depending on the type of glue.

Decorative PVC Tiles Bricks

Making such bricks is quite simple:
— We take the tile, mark it into bricks with a gel pen, not forgetting to leave space for the seams.
- Using a toothpick, gently press down the marked lines.
— We glue the resulting cladding onto the base.

— We glue the finished decorative element onto the wall using glue for ceiling tiles. We apply gluing from the bottom of the wall. Let it dry.
— We paint the resulting cladding. We apply more paint into the gaps between the bricks, thus achieving a better resemblance to brickwork.

You can choose how to make it on the wall yourself. We hope that our article will help you master design skills and your renovation in the bedroom, kitchen or living room will be original.

You can create a special coziness in the room if you play properly with the design of the walls, and the imitation brick wallbest approach in this plan. After all, the comfort imparted to the home depends on the beauty and quality of their design. An important role is given to the selection of the appropriate material from which the masonry and imitation will be carried out.

Owners of houses, apartments, studio apartments and commercial establishments that decide to install just such a wall in their home, it is recommended to pay attention to several parameters - the aesthetics of the materials, the price category of their formation, effective area the room being finished. You can imitate a brick wall in any room yourself; there are many techniques for this, so the average user often does not know where to start.

Let's look at various techniques that allow you to achieve colossal results, during which you will be able to choose best option. The essence of any of them is to use a special template used during applying plaster. To make the result as durable and reliable as possible, it is recommended to add binding elements to the facing compositions, in particular tile adhesive. Thanks to this approach, it is possible to ensure the setting of the material.

Using a template to simulate masonry

Anything can serve as this element, but traditionally all of the above items are divided into two main classes.

  • Masking tape. For simple tiling procedures, it is recommended to purchase a paint hammer. The facing mortar is applied over the tape.
  • Another template is the use of special molds made from special hard materials. Plastic and wood are often used in the process. The composition is applied between the guides.

Practice shows that hybrid options can often be used, in which both types of templates take place. In such a situation, the outer frame is made from special wood. The size of the template is small, otherwise it will be difficult for builders to move it from one place to another, and difficulties may arise when traversing jagged areas of the wall.

How to get out of this situation? It's quite simple!

  • The planks, placed horizontally, are made of slats (wooden), the dimensions are taken in accordance with the parameters of the brick joint. Slots are made at the end.
  • The height and width of the frames correspond to the sides of the bricks, and to simulate ligation, the teeth are cut through a row. Before performing the simulation, you will have to move the template several times, which will allow you to work carefully with the joints.
  • A tight fit of the masking tape to the wall is the basis for a durable structure. Its vertical areas contribute to the imitation of dressing.

Thus, a brick wall is an excellent option to emphasize necessary features your interior and focus on the most important details.

Creating a template from thin slats: advantages

  1. The ability to work with solutions that harden quickly, since they have time to “set” and dry.
  2. Large selection of materials and flexibility in carrying out any set of works.
  3. The shape of the structure fully repeats the elements already discussed.
  4. The ability to create a template directly on the wall and an image of any shape.
  5. The naturalness and authenticity of the appearance of the resulting brickwork.

Disadvantages of Using Scotch Tape

  1. At large size object will take a lot of time and material.
  2. If the solution hardens too quickly, it can lead to problems in removing the tape from it in order to preserve the appearance of the design.

In the photo you can see the main options and see for yourself that imitation brickwork made on the wall of your apartment, house, or office is an opportunity for flight of fancy and the implementation of numerous creative ideas.

Imitation brick wall: basic finishing options

There are several basic techniques by which high-quality imitation can be achieved. The options provided in practice can be implemented by you yourself, because the technique for their implementation is extremely simple and convenient.

Textured wallpaper

Wallpaper with imitation brickwork have always been interesting for designers, and this is not surprising. Modern technologies, used in the field of printing, allow you to create a high-quality “optical illusion”. Using typical paper wallpaper or vinyl wallpaper has certain advantages:

  • Low cost of materials;
  • High installation speed;
  • Absolutely easy to care for.

If you decide to decorate your interior using this technique, be sure to pay attention to the so-called innovative wallpapers, which are made of paper, since traditional wallpapers look less realistic in comparison.

Ready-made panels for decoration

In this paragraph we will talk about plastic panels, which in principle already repeat the brickwork. Using such panels along with glue, you can quickly decorate a wall with brick, literally dressing it. Moreover, this option is suitable for use both indoors and in finishing of building facades. If necessary additional insulation walls, then it is necessary to install the panels on the sheathing.

Advice! In order to be able to properly glue these panels in the interior of the room, you will definitely need preliminary preparation walls

In general, achieving a high-quality result by decorating it yourself will not be difficult.

Creating a new living room interior using brick wall

Embossing with a stencil

Work on decorating wall surfaces in this situation is carried out using plaster. In this case, a ready-made rubber stencil is used, and a pattern imitating masonry is applied to it. To complete the work, you do not need any special knowledge: you need to moisten the working side of the stencil with water, and then dip it into the bath against the wall. Then it is removed from the wall, and traces of seams between the bricks will certainly remain on the surface.

The cycle of actions of such a plan is repeated until the result is completed, the stencil is gradually moved to a new location. The layer of plaster, which has already hardened, is primed and then covered with a special building material- wax. After this, the final stage begins - painting the bricks and seams. You can use a special plastering solution, which will avoid the need for painting.

It is important to know! When choosing a coloring composition used to decorate a room, it is worth remembering that after drying there will be significant darkening.

Tile masonry

This option will become truly relevant for people who prefer to bring the imitation closer to the most realistic option. For this purpose, tiles are used, which are glued to previously prepared surfaces. In principle, the option is similar to the process of covering walls with tiles. Natural tiles for cladding, in which case, it can be made independently - from wood, plaster, foam plastic.

Painted tile

Imitation tiles made of plaster - one of the most popular options used in modern interiors. The method is implemented in a similar way to the stencil technique, and here you will need fresh plastering.

Action steps

  1. The solution is applied to the wall and smoothed using your hands;
  2. The procedure is repeated until a relief is obtained that is similar in texture to stone;
  3. It is necessary to wait for the surface to harden, and then you can draw the contours of the bricks on it by hand;
  4. Take a narrow scraper and use it to remove traces of plaster at the “seams” along the drawn lines;
  5. This is followed by finishing the surface in the same way as in the case of a stencil.

So, imitating brickwork on a wall is a relatively simple job if you learn a few basic techniques and technologies for its implementation.

Bricks on putty

This method is suitable if you already have finished wall– plastered surface. Putty, pre-painted in the color of the brick of the stone, is applied to this edge. Next, you need to make the contours and relief on the putty, which has slightly hardened.

Styrofoam

You can often find imitation foam. This approach, when executed correctly, has many advantages:

  1. Ease of laying;
  2. Lightness of design;
  3. Possibility of implementing design ideas;
  4. Originality of design;
  5. Affordable cost of material;
  6. Strength;
  7. Easy to paint.

Overall, this approach has many positive aspects, so you can “turn a blind eye” to some defects and disadvantages. You can trust the work to be completed to an experienced master or take on them yourself, it all depends on your desire to create comfort and your desire to take on painstaking work. In general, polystyrene foam adheres to the surface and is easier to paint than other materials.

  • Using a utility knife, cut the cardboard into rectangular pieces;
  • Spread each element with PVA glue, but leave the corner elements dry;
  • Decorate cardboard rectangles by gluing paper napkins - decoupage;
  • After the glue has dried, you can begin decorative painting, as well as applying varnish to the wall. After the design is completely dry, you will get a realistic image tiles on the wall.
  • Advice! In order for the work to be of high quality, you need to choose only durable napkins, otherwise they will roll up in the glue. Before you start gluing them, it is advisable to crumple them a little in your hands so that good folds are formed, allowing you to fully imitate the required surface.

    This imitation of a brick wall in the interior is a reliable and proven way to decorate surfaces in the kitchen, in small living room and even in bedroom. The main thing is to choose a creative approach and have the desire to create real beauty.

    • Inexpensive way. Such coverage will not require financial investments.
    • Eco-friendly. The plaster does not contain harmful impurities.
    • Simple. No special skills or tools are needed here. Just a little care and patience.

    Marking

    Before starting the main work, it is necessary to prepare the surface - remove old finishing. If it is not level, level it with plaster and cover it with a primer. Another option is the dry leveling method. However, if the area of the room is small, this method is unlikely to be suitable, because the sheets will “eat up” the space.

    Please note: if the apartment is in a new building, you can start decorating the room no earlier than 1 year after the completion of the house. Otherwise, the walls may shrink and cracks may form.

    Once the surface is prepared for work, you can begin marking. And there are two options here.

    First: some construction stores sell a ready-made mesh form; this method is simpler, but also more expensive. Second: independent marking. How to make an imitation brick wall with your own hands?

    • Standard size brick - 250 mm x 65 mm, the size of the joints is about 15 mm, although this is not important, and they, of course, can be changed.
    • Cut a brick out of cardboard with seams on the sides.
    • Mark the center of the brick, also taking into account the seams. You should get a blank like in the photo below.

    Marking starts from the left corner. Provide in advance for indentations from the ceiling and floor - at least 5 cm. First, you can mark out the area according to the lattice principle, marking a grid, and then draw half of the brick through the row. Trace the resulting stones and you will have standard brickwork.

    It is convenient to use 15 mm thick masking tape. Glue the jumpers overlapping, be sure to leave “tails” at the edges so that the tape can be easily removed later.

    Marking

    How to make imitation brickwork on a wall as natural as possible? There are two ways to create such a masonry.

    Individual elements

    The size of the bricks is exactly the same - 250 mm x 60 mm. If in front of you is a sheet of expanded polystyrene (foam), then optimal width one product - about 12 mm.
    The material is easy to cut with ordinary construction knife with a sharp blade. In this case, each detail will have its own texture.

    Sheet

    Instead of individual bricks, you can make decorative leaf, imitating masonry. Since foam melts easily, a soldering iron is used for this. They are passed along the seams, controlling the depth of pressure. Be especially careful with the corners - they should be smooth, without rounding or bevels.

    I must say, this method is suitable for those who are already familiar with the material; It's unlikely to be done perfectly the first time. We need to practice.

    When burning, be sure to wear a mask and ventilate the room well! When melting, foam releases harmful fumes.

    Laying

    They always start installing bricks from the corner, then lay door and window openings.

    You can attach them directly to the wall using liquid nails, or to a sheet of drywall or plywood. Subsequently, such a sheet can be fixed with self-tapping screws. This method is more convenient, since the sheet lies on the floor, the work is carried out on a horizontal surface.

    Painting and decor

    Some leave the texture of foam plastic, while others cover it with putty to give the stone a special structure.

    In any case, the material must be primed before painting. Choose your paint carefully, it can ruin the polystyrene foam. Solvent-free paints, such as water-based paints, are suitable. The result can be fixed matte acrylic varnish.

    Making an imitation of tiles

    Today at hardware store You can find several tile options. This is not only standard ceramic, but also modern soft - elastic clinker based on polyacrylic.

    Working with elastic clinker

    • Very flexible material, fits on any surface, goes around even sharp corners.
    • Easy to cut with long scissors and can be cut into any shape.
    • UV and frost resistant, does not fade, breathes.
    • Suitable for both finishing interior spaces, and the facades of houses.

    The surface preparation in this case is the same: it is primed. The difference is in the materials used. Most often, clinker is placed on tile adhesive, but the seller may advise you to purchase a special one from the manufacturer. This composition will make the tile more stable and hard.

    1. First, the rows are marked using a simple pencil and rulers.
    2. The glue is applied with a notched trowel; a layer of 2-3 mm is enough. There is no need to completely cover the entire area! Fill in small areas so that the adhesive does not have time to dry.
    3. Apply the tiles carefully, without pressing hard. Making half a brick is easy, just cut it with scissors.
    4. After the main stage is completed, the glue on the seams is smoothed with a thin brush slightly moistened with water.
    5. Elastic clinker does not require the use of grout. This is an undoubted advantage of the material.

    Features of solid materials

    • Gypsum rigid tiles are cheaper than analogues. However, its main disadvantage is that it is not at all resistant to humidity, so it cannot be installed in rooms with an aggressive environment, for example, in the bathroom or kitchen. However, there are also products with a protective coating.
    • Another view - from. Inexpensive yet durable, it is often used to create decor both indoors and outdoors. Interestingly, you can even make it yourself. The solution is simply poured into a special form.
    • Finally, the third type - clinker tiles. She has the most high performance operation, but the price is appropriate. It is rarely purchased for interior decoration.

    Installation

    The principle of working with rigid material is similar to working with elastic material. The main difference is that hard bricks will have to be cut, and without relevant tools there's no way around it. Will need a circular saw or Grinder with disk.

    In addition, after installation it is necessary to seal the seams with a special compound. This must be done very carefully so as not to get on the stones, because it is difficult to scrub off.

    In general, if you have experience laying tiles, there will be no problems.

    The more light that hits a brick wall, the more natural it should look. An illuminated decorative brick wall attracts attention, but if done carelessly or of poor quality, it cheapens the interior.

    Choose a color based on the overall decor of the room. IN warm interiors Standard terracotta is suitable, cold gray - for more brutal ones. By the way, it is better to add a little ocher to neutral white, so it will not seem flat and lifeless.

    The surface of the walls, finished with brickwork, or the masonry itself, is a combination of the incongruous in interior design, that is, the combination of strict lines of rows of bricks and individual texture patterns of each square of masonry. This imitation brick for interior decoration, which is used more often than natural masonry, refers to architectural style loft. Since the natural surface of brickwork is rarely used in design due to its rough surface, many when finishing internal surfaces premises, they use such a simple technique as imitation of a brick wall with their own hands.

    How to finish a brick wall with plaster

    The surface imitating brickwork does not have to extend to the entire room - often it is enough to finish just one wall or even a small section of it to give the room originality and uniqueness. In interior design, several technologies have been developed for plastering under brick: gypsum tiles, drawing on a fresh layer of plaster, obtaining a drawing using masking tape, stencil, tile adhesive.

    The common drawback of all options is the need for a large room, since there is an approximation effect: the closer you are to simulating brick with your own hands, the rougher and more unnatural the surface looks. And vice versa - when moving away from the wall, the effect of an absolutely natural brick wall is created. One of general solutions for all finishing options - paint the brick rectangles light and the seams dark. A homemade imitation of a brick wall with your own hands is a technique not only for walls. In this way you can decorate doorways in the apartment, kitchen work surface (apron) or corners of rooms.

    Preparatory work is the main condition for decorative brick with my own hands it turned out to be of high quality and beautiful. The second condition is compliance with the thickness of the decorative layer. This is especially true for plaster - the layer should not be thicker than 0.5-1.5 cm. To achieve such a thickness, the wall should be leveled, and in case of deep depressions, beacons can be used over which rough plaster is applied. Decorative finishing of walls for brickwork is carried out only after this layer has completely dried. In order for this layer cake to stay on the wall firmly and for a long time, its surface is primed with compounds deep penetration. Plastering a brick wall with your own hands is done in two ways: seams imitating masonry are cut with a scraper, or they are formed using masking tape.

    Seams using a scraper

    Before making an imitation of a brick wall, prepare the tools. First of all, this is a spatula with a blade width of 20-30 cm and a narrower one with a blade width of 4-12 cm. Using a narrow spatula, apply the solution to a wide blade, and also work in hard to reach places walls, for example, in the corners. The solution is applied using grips that correspond to the volume of one portion of the solution – 10-12 liters. Gypsum plaster is applied first over the primer.

    On a still wet surface, mark the seams for the brick using a long rule and a scriber, which can be replaced with any metal plate that would ensure the width of the seams within 0.5-1.0 cm. The main recommendation is to maintain the dimensions of the brick 250 x 65 x 120 mm and dressing pattern.

    After tracing the contours of the seams, the brick wall is processed with a scraper with your own hands. The scraper can be an ordinary carpenter's chisel of the appropriate width, or a homemade tool. Using a scraper, remove the solution along the contour of the seam to a depth of 3-6 mm. There will be ragged excess mortar along the edges of the groove, which is best removed with sandpaper after it has completely dried.

    A tool similar to a scraper for forming seams is a steel jointer, which is used to clean seams when laying bricks. The difference between jointing and scraping is that it can be used to make seams convex or concave. The joints on the plaster are cut first horizontally, then along short verticals. After the decorative surface has completely dried and the seams have been cleaned with sanding paper, the wall must be cleaned of dust with a dry cloth and then wiped with a damp sponge.

    The last step in this technology: a do-it-yourself brick wall made of plaster must be painted. Painting is carried out in two stages - painting the entire surface and painting the seams. The easiest way to paint the entire wall area is with a spray gun - the paint layer will lie smoothly and without drips. Also good result Painting with a roller will do. Painting with a brush takes a long time, and it is necessary to constantly and efficiently stretch the paint over the wall so that it does not flow. A brush in painting is used mainly only to highlight decorative seams.

    Before making an imitation of brickwork, you need to choose gypsum plaster, and the Volma brand is best suited for this purpose - the solution from it does not shrink, is applied easily and quickly, and does not require rough plastering of the surface. Using gypsum plasters other types of solutions cannot be used - separation of the mixtures and swelling of the imitation is possible.

    The consumption of gypsum plaster mixture with a thickness of 10 mm will be 8-9 kg per 1 m2 of wall surface. Thus, “” plaster is packaged in paper bags of 5 kg, 15 kg, 25 kg and 30 kg, so it is easy to calculate how many bags are needed to decorate a certain area. In addition, gypsum mortar is the cheapest of all plaster options - the difference in price with gypsum or adhesive tiles maybe 2-3 times.

    Masking tape for imitation brickwork joints

    When using this simple technology, the bricks on the wall are drawn with masking tape, namely: after applying the primer, the contours of the seams are marked with a pencil, and a narrow strip of tape is glued along them.

    The edges of the tape should protrude beyond the edges of the plaster, and the gypsum solution itself is applied with a spatula on top of the masking tape. After leveling and drying the layer, you need to lightly pull the free edges of the tape, which, when peeled off, will leave an even, shallow seam.

    Imitation made with tape is a more complex and time-consuming operation than extracting seams using jointing or a scraper. Except painstaking work with tape; after removing it, you will need to additionally clean the edges of the brick partitions. The tape should be removed from the wall very carefully, as it carries the sticking solution with it.

    Imitation using a stencil

    You can make a stencil yourself, but it is much easier to buy one. Stencils are rubber or plastic, and the solution does not stick to them well. A homemade stencil is made from wooden slats.

    Advantages of using a stencil:

    1. Can work with quick-drying solutions;
    2. When using a stencil, the choice of plaster mixtures increases many times, and the stencil itself allows you to use any form of brickwork pattern. In addition, a pattern of any shape can be created directly on the wall surface, which is more convenient;
    3. The stencil makes it possible to obtain the most natural pattern and natural texture of the surface of the brickwork.

    Imitation foam

    Another way to make a brick wall using available materials is fake foam bricks. For their self-made you need a smooth polystyrene foam tile. A brick pattern can be made on any side, respecting the dimensions of natural bricks plus 0.5-1 cm for seams. By increasing or decreasing the size of the form, the overall pattern on the wall will not look like brickwork.

    The drawing is done as follows: the foam is marked taking into account the seams along which the shape is cut out. It is best to use a carpenter's cutter for cutting. You can draw a design on one large area of a sheet of foam plastic, but you can also cut out each brick separately, imitating natural products. The blanks are glued to the wall using a plaster plaster mixture or an adhesive solution for ceramic tiles– any synthetic glue does not required thickness adhesive layer and dissolves the surface of the foam. The seams between individual decorative elements do not need to be filled with mortar, since their width should not exceed 1-1.5 mm. After gluing the foam, it must be painted in a color suitable for the interior. Several layers of paint can be used to fill the gaps between brick partitions.

    Imitation from tile adhesive

    Elements of such tiles are made from any brand of tile adhesive in dry form. Dry mixes light shades It is necessary to mix with water until the consistency of sour cream. A further feature of the preparation is that the solution is divided into three equal parts, each of which is painted with the same paint, but with different color intensities. Liquid coloring is added so that the mixture becomes dough-like in consistency. Such density gives visually beautiful color stains.

    The mass rolls out thin layer(0.5-1 cm), and cut into shapes of the same size, corresponding to the size of the brick. The parts need to be dried. The number of such elements is determined by the decoration area. That surface of the bricks is glued with glue of the same composition. The seams between the forms are filled with tile adhesive, which is pre-coated in darker shades. The final stage is coating the decor with transparent varnish.

    Painting false bricks

    Natural texture brick surface can be obtained by painting it with light and red ocher mixed in different proportions. White is added to ocher. Coloring is done not with a brush, but with a foam swab. This technique will make the surface rougher and more brick-like.

    First, the mixture is applied to the wall with a sponge, then spread with a swab. Next you will need to work with liquid dye of the “burnt bone” color. You don’t need a lot of paint - you can spray it on the wall with a regular toothbrush or a small brush. For a more natural look, each row of the wall is painted in its own shade. This can be achieved not only by adding white, but also by adding sienna or mars. All rows are painted only with a swab, alternating shades. A layer of varnish is the final painting operation, and a matte surface can be achieved by sanding with fine sandpaper.

    Brickwork itself is an excellent decorative background for both the interior and exterior of the walls of residential and non-residential buildings. However, the appearance of the walls does not always correspond to the aesthetic needs of ordinary people. In particular, the walls may not be made of brick at all, and not all types of the latter look quite impressive.

    In such cases, a finishing technique such as imitation brickwork comes to the rescue. How to make an imitation brick wall with your own hands will be discussed in the following article.

    How to make a brick wall?

    You can make decorative bricks on the wall with your own hands different ways, the simplest of which is to acquire decorative tiles under the brick and laying it on a previously prepared wall surface using tile adhesive. But real craftsmen do not look for easy ways, so below we will look whole line other methods, which, although more labor-intensive, will allow you to save significantly when finishing the surface of the walls of your home.

    Applying an imitation layer to the wall

    In this case, it is assumed that the prepared solution is applied to the wall surface using a special stencil or with preliminary marking work surface.

    Important! Before starting work, you should paint the wall in suitable color. It will be visible in the spaces between the bricks, therefore, this color should match the color of the brickwork joints. Typically, white or gray paint is chosen for this.

    • cutting out rectangles in a sheet of plastic or rubber;
    • by assembling a template from thin wooden or plastic slats.

    If the area of the wall you plan to decorate in this way is relatively small, and you don’t want to spend time or money on getting a template, you can apply the necessary markings to the wall using adhesive tape or masking tape. In this case, the rows of bricks are first designated ( horizontal stripes tape or adhesive tape), and then individual bricks are highlighted in vertical sections.

    Important! Since in the future you will have to remove the tape from the wall, it is advisable to leave free edges of this material along the edges of the markings so that it is convenient to pry them off and separate them from the wall.

    The disadvantage of the latter method is the increased requirements for the consistency of the solution and the layer of its application. The solution should not flow down the wall and should be applied in a layer of no more than 2-3 millimeters.

    Having completed all the preparatory work for making a stencil or marking, you can safely begin mixing the solution. We offer you a choice of two most popular recipes.

    1. On a gypsum basis. A feature of this mixture is rapid hardening, for this reason, in the case of working with masking tape you will have to introduce what is called a “moderator” into it. This will cause the layer decorative covering will not harden for 20-40 minutes, during which time you will have to complete the work on the glued area. Otherwise, you simply will not be able to remove the tape from the wall.
    2. A mixture of plaster and tile adhesive in proportions 1 x 1. To prepare such a mixture you will also need sand, and only of the smallest fractions. It will have to be purchased from a specialized organization, since sand from the nearest sandbox or even a quarry after sifting at home will not meet the requirements for it.

    Making decorative bricks from gypsum or tile adhesive

    You can try to make your own tiles that imitate bricks. To do this, you will need a form, which you can purchase at a specialized store, or you can make it yourself.

    Important! The thickness of the “homemade” brick should be 5-20 millimeters. Thinner elements are not strong enough, and thicker ones, firstly, unjustifiably increase the consumption of material, and secondly, reduce the area of the room planned for finishing in this way.

    As a starting material for the manufacture of pseudo-bricks, you can use gypsum, tile adhesive, etc. It should be diluted with water to the consistency of thick sour cream and poured into a mold previously greased with soapy water.
