How to install sliding interior doors? How to install sliding doors yourself How to install a sliding interior door

Do you want to save space in the room that was previously occupied by your old interior door, which opened wide. An excellent option would be to install a new sliding door leaf design. It will not only save space, but also give an unusual look to your room. I will tell you how to install such structures in this article.

Types of sliding interior doors

These canvases are divided into single-leaf and double-leaf. Sliding panels open parallel to the wall or are completely built into it. This method of opening the door saves space.

Single door leaves– these are compact, fairly small doors that are installed in small rooms. In this case door frame not needed, but the opening needs to be very well repaired and finished. This design can be attached not only to the wall, but also to the ceiling.

Double doors - differ from ordinary doors in that they have two doors that open on the sides. The opening is large, it is very convenient to carry furniture, you can use only one door, the second one must be fixed in the closed position. Double doors look better in large rooms and give them a noble, beautiful look.

The sizes of the canvas can be different, from standard to the size you need.

Impact resistant glass. Made from one piece of large, impact-resistant glass, the box can be made of wood or aluminum. Provides good sound insulation, opening occurs in one direction. Glass shades can be different, the price varies depending on the design and size.

There are two types of accordion, the first type is cheap, this “Accordion” is affordable, it can be made from various materials: glass, plastic, wood, etc. They fold, just like blinds, using a roller and rails. They differ in size and material of manufacture. These are dense, great for small rooms, and also look great in the kitchen and even in the bedroom.

Types of paintings

Sliding and folding doors "Accordion"

This is the second type; it is larger in size and more expensive. Such models look very harmonious in the interior; when closed, they take up little space (this depends on the size of one leaf).

Such canvases consist of a wooden or aluminum frame with a built-in transparent material, most often glass. These doors keep out odors and keep out noise. They are also installed to divide a room as a decorative partition.

Coupe

These doors look great in small rooms, save room space. They can be hidden in the wall, this type is called "Cassette", or can be mounted on the wall and used as a wall panel.

Installation does not require a door frame or threshold, and this will make your choice much easier when floor covering. It can also be a coupe "radial"(slightly curved panels) open, as usual, along the wall in one or two directions (depending on the number of doors). Prices vary again depending on design and size.

Pencil case

The doors open along the wall, thereby saving your expensive room space. Such doors muffle noise. This look will look great in both home interior, and in offices. Such doors can have different shades and patterns, so you don’t have to worry about the design of the door, whatever you like, of course, you can order a special exclusive work.

The advantage of such a door is that the manufacturer took care in advance and produced suitable fittings that will serve you for many years. Also, such curtains open and close silently, because they already have a built-in closer. You can find out more by following this link.

Economy class sliding doors

Of course, such doors are of poor workmanship, hollow inside and lined with the cheapest material. And in terms of cost, they will be the most affordable, but of course not of high quality. Before purchasing, think several times whether it is worth buying them at all.

Sliding doors "partitions"

This design contains two or more doors. Partitions are made from aluminum profile, with inserted glass or any other transparent material. The color of aluminum can be chosen upon request. The displacement of the partitions occurs on both sides, one goes behind the other, thereby hiding behind each other. Closing occurs silently thanks to the door closers. Such a system can be installed on the balcony, it copes well with noise, and they are also not afraid of the cold. The promised service life is at least 50 years.

Sliding interior doors can be made of MDF, glass, wood, and mixed type. You can also come up with the design and material of manufacture yourself, you just need to agree with the manufacturer of such canvases.

Do-it-yourself installation of sliding interior doors

Mounting the canvas on the wall

So, let's start installing the canvas that is attached to the wall. The opening must be put in order, leveled and finished.

To install sliding doors, you need to make, assemble a pseudo-box and check for evenness using plumb lines and building level. Insert into the opening and secure with paper or wooden wedges.

We mount sliding casters, first of all, mark the attachment points on the canvas at the top and bottom, drill holes and screw the holders for the rollers to the canvas. Then we insert 2 rollers into each holder. We install a handle on the door. Next, we attach the guide on top. First on wooden block suitable size, for example 40x40 mm. plus the length of the guide taking into account the fastening. Next, we check the operation of the door leaf, insert the doors with the roller into the guide and check the level and look at the gaps.

Then secure this beam above the opening, and using plumb lines, measure out the place for the second one, which will be attached from below. The canvas can be removed from the opening. We fix the second guide according to the marks; ideally it is fixed flush with the floor, but this is done immediately when repairing the floor. So think about this option so that you don’t have to open up part of the floor to recess the bottom guide. Install a travel limiter on the rail located on top. We install the door on the guides, this is done in this sequence, first we get top part, and then the bottom one. We attach a roller movement limiter to the lower guide. If your design does not have such a function as lower rollers, then we make a small groove for the limiter.

It is better to use rubber or plastic limiter, which is attached to the floor.

Then we check the operation of the canvas, namely the smoothness of its movement. We foam the gap between the pseudo-box and the opening polyurethane foam. Install decorative panels to hide the beam on which the guide rests. You can read how to install them correctly here. Install the decorative plugs that come with your canvas.

We mount the canvas into the wall

For this mounting option, it is necessary to pre-install the entire structure into the wall before sheathing it. The wall should be the same size as your door, because the panel will fit into the wall, and you also need to calculate the mounting location. The frame for housing the entire structure can be made of plasterboard.

So, let's get started, the installation is similar to the previous type, but there are still several nuances that allow you to install the canvas, since you need a “cassette” in the doorway.

The first difference is the attachment of the upper guide to the beam. So this beam is mounted on a cassette or on a metal frame. That is, we fasten the block no longer above the opening, but in a false wall on a cassette or frame.

The next steps are similar to the previous option, but you should focus your attention on the door handle. It should not be bulky, it should fit freely into a false wall. But there is no need to recess the entire door into the wall; you need to leave 7-10 cm.

This option is the most economical in terms of room space, because along the wall where the door design you can put furniture or hang some design elements. Installation work finished. Now you can admire all the work done.

Features and installation procedure

If you decide to build a sliding structure yourself, then you should take into account the weight of the canvas and the number of rollers. For sheets weighing no more than 35 kg, two rollers are sufficient. For canvases over 35 kg, it is worth increasing their number to 3-4 or more. Also, such doors are best installed after laying the floor covering.

If you have chosen interior sliding doors, and you want to install them in a false wall, then during the renovation, you should make a niche in the wall, build a frame for the future door and be sure to mount a wooden beam on top or build in a metal frame so that the canvas can be secured to something.

Before installation, you must decide exactly what size door you want. After all, based on it, you will make a niche in the wall, or even build new wall. If there is a wall and it cannot be enlarged, then we measure your doorway and add 6 cm; if you don’t find such canvases on sale, you will have to order from manufacturers.

Some useful tips on installation. To prevent such mistakes in the future, it is worth remembering them.

  1. The door you purchased should be 7-10 cm larger than the doorway;
  2. The weight of the canvas, which is attached to the upper guide, should not exceed more than 50 kg;
  3. To close the door flush with the false wall, the false wall should be several centimeters larger than the door;
  4. Before installing the sliding door, it is necessary that the floor is parallel to the ceiling, without a slope, otherwise the structure may jam. The permissible error can be 1mm per 1 meter;
  5. To install a door in a false wall, you should take care of a metal frame or beam to secure the entire door structure;
  6. Before installing the canvas, check whether you have all the tools necessary for installation, and whether all the accessories have been purchased;
  7. And lastly, after installation we check the smoothness of the move, if everything is good, it means we installed everything necessary requirements. If not everything is fine, then you will have to redo it. This must be done before you are going to put the false wall in order, that is, hang wallpaper or paint it.

Perhaps this is where my article ends, I hope the installation information was useful to you. Happy renovation and see you again on my blog!

Initially, doors only served the function of retaining heat in the house, so people cared more about this component than about their appearance. Modern technologies allow you to harmoniously fit interior doors into the interior of any style and direction, without forgetting about their functionality.

Sliding structures have gained the most popularity on the door market. Installing sliding doors allows you to add uniqueness and originality to the design of the room. They make it possible to significantly expand the space of the room without requiring extra space to open the doors, and also design the area around them in accordance with general style.

The first generation of sliding doors were very thin partitions that got stuck in the runners and caused only irritation. It is for this reason that many still do not dare to change the more familiar swing structures. Consumers are also very much put off by the myth about the complexity of such a procedure as installing a sliding door with their own hands. Still, the majority of the population of our country tries to avoid calling a specialist to their home or additional expenses caused by paying for his work.

Modern sliding systems

The design of sliding doors improves with each new model, And modern systems already have a number of undeniable advantages:

  • saving space required to open a swing door;
  • such a door cannot be opened by a draft;
  • ability to choose size and material;
  • the absence of hinges that begin to creak over time;
  • absolute safety - it is impossible to pinch a finger with such a door;
  • the possibility of implementing any design idea;
  • harmonious combination with the environment;
  • possibility of combining adjacent rooms.

One of the disadvantages of sliding systems is poor sound insulation

Of course, there are a number of disadvantages of coupe systems:

  1. The design of sliding doors is such that gaps between the frame and the leaf cannot be avoided. Therefore, such designs have much lower sound and thermal insulation properties. They practically do not isolate the room from noise coming from the next room.
  2. Such doors have a slightly higher price.
  3. As a result of improper installation or due to poor quality of the mechanism, the sashes may move unevenly along the runners, which can lead to their jamming.
  4. It is necessary to ensure that there is free space on the side of the door into which the door leaf slides. It is possible to place a cabinet or some other large object near this wall only if the door fits into a special pocket. Otherwise, the cabinet can only be placed at a certain distance of at least 100-150 mm. This, in turn, leads to a reduction in usable area, for which the installation of sliding doors is most often started. Disadvantage of a wall with a pocket underneath door leaf– it cannot be used for attaching wall-mounted lighting fixtures, paintings, decorative elements, as well as for installing switches and sockets.
  5. It will accumulate in your pocket a large number of dust, which is extremely difficult to remove.
  6. Quite often, in the niche in which the door is hidden, the sliding door leaf jams due to misalignment of the rollers.

Advice: it is better to provide for the possibility of removing one side of the niche under the sliding door leaf. This will help avoid the problems described in points 5 and 6.

Therefore, before deciding to replace conventional swing structures For sliding doors, you should carefully think through everything, weigh all the pros and cons, and only then decide whether it is really necessary.

Classification by installation and type of mechanism

Installing sliding interior doors is not as difficult as it is usually imagined. Maximum reliability and high quality design completely depends on the accuracy of installation work and the utmost precision in carrying out all required sizes and calculations. First you need to decide what kind of sliding door you would like to see in your home.

All sliding systems can be divided into two groups:

  • built into the wall;
  • visible structures moving along the wall.

Sliding systems in which the doors go into the wall

Based on the type of mechanism, such doors can be divided into three types:

  • the canvas is supported on the upper suspension - non-threshold systems;
  • the canvas is held on the lower suspension. The disadvantage is the presence of a small threshold on the floor that can be recessed, but such structures are considered the easiest to install and are also the cheapest;
  • the system uses both of the above mounting options. This type of door is the most reliable and convenient to use.

Advice: it should be noted that the price of a door mainly depends not only on its type, but more on the quality of materials and type of fittings. That is, having replaced expensive platbands, door handles, locks and rollers for cheaper analogues, you can save significantly.

Sliding doors in which the leaf is held only by the upper suspension are called non-threshold

Of course, fitting the door into a special pocket allows you to save some space in the room, but it also requires additional work and destruction of part of the wall near the doorway.

Tip: you can install the canvas not only by breaking the wall, but also by installing an overlay structure made of plasterboard. As a result, the length of the room will decrease by approximately 100 mm, and you will be able to avoid a rather complicated procedure.

Sliding door design

Sliding systems consist of several components:

  • frame with glass or solid filling;
  • a mechanism consisting of a guide, clamps, roller carriages, etc.;
  • platbands and extensions;
  • decorative strips designed to disguise the driving mechanism;
  • accessories (special locks and handles).

There are several options for door frames:

  1. MDF frames with a variety of tinting.
  2. Frames made of aluminum profile. They are distinguished by their lightness and durability of construction, are absolutely not afraid of moisture, and allow the absence of decorative elements, since they can be painted in any color or anodized.
  3. Tempered glass doors (frameless designs). Suitable mainly for high-tech style, ideal for highlighting meeting areas and for wet rooms.

Glass sliding doors

Of course, doors with wooden frame They are slightly more expensive, but they have higher thermal insulation.

The mechanism used to move the sliding door consists of one or more guides with roller carriages that secure the door leaf. An aluminum profile is usually used as a guide.

The rollers are made from special polymer material, extremely resistant to damage and abrasion. Rotation is carried out by rolling bearings, which ensures ease of movement of the carriage.

Interesting: fittings for sliding systems have a number of distinctive features. The handles must be recessed, otherwise they will interfere with the operation of the door. An ordinary straight lock will not be able to close such a structure; its bolt must be hook-shaped.

Big choice door leaves allows for many interior design options. You should not use fabric made of solid wood, since the heaviness of this material leads to distortions of the entire structure, leading to a decrease in smoothness.

Important: the sliding door should be made as light as possible by using lighter materials, such as aluminum. If the weight of the sash exceeds 70-75 kg, then it is better to install four or more rollers on each one.

What you need to install sliding interior doors

Before you begin assembling interior sliding systems, you need to prepare all the materials and tools that may be needed during the installation process.

When installing interior sliding doors, you cannot do without a screwdriver or drill.

So, we will need:

  • screwdriver or electric drill;
  • perforator (if you need to remove the inside of the wall);
  • crosshead screwdriver;
  • two platbands. One is installed on top of the door, and the second is on the opposite side from the one into which the door opens;
  • anchors;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • door handles – 2 pcs;
  • finishing nails;
  • extras – 2 pcs;
  • stand for connecting the door when closed;
  • necessary fittings, such as rollers, fastening materials, metal (preferably aluminum) guide bar;
  • door leaf;
  • dry wooden beam 50x50, the width of which is twice the size of the door.

Tip: in order for the door leaf to fit perfectly, carefully measure the doorway and increase linear dimensions(width and height) by seventy millimeters.

Installation of a sliding structure

To carry out any complex options(installation of multi-leaf doors, glass, having very heavy weight or equipment for a pocket in the wall) it is better to invite real specialists, since any errors during the installation process can hit your pocket very hard. A person who never deals with sliding structures will be able to install only simple sliding doors.

With installation sliding doors you can easily do it yourself

If you purchased a ready-made kit, then installation will not take you much effort or time, since it will already have all the necessary accessories provided by the manufacturer. But if you decide to create a sliding system in accordance with your wishes and preferences, then you will have to select the equipment yourself and it is very difficult to avoid mistakes when doing this work for the first time.

Let's try to create instructions for installing sliding doors that will allow a beginner to quickly and efficiently carry out everything necessary work. Get yourself together, you will need extreme care and accuracy.

Installation should begin from the opening. We measure the height of the opening in three places: on the left, in the middle and on the right, and the width in three places: at the top, on the center line of the wall and at the bottom. Next, we check the verticality, perpendicularity and straightness of the corresponding sides. If the design provides for framing, then you should measure the minimum and maximum thickness of the wall, making sure to take measurements in the corners of the opening, and not just on the sides.

For ease of understanding, we will divide the entire further process into simple steps.

Removing the old door

First you need to remove old door, door hinges, carefully remove the platbands on both sides, then dismantle the door frame. If it is well secured and does not interfere with the free movement of the sashes, then you can leave it, it will be a continuation of the wall.

Tidying up the walls

Now you need to carefully level the walls, filling all the cracks and cracks. The opening must have clear dimensions (height, width and thickness), there should be no parts of brick or foam concrete protruding anywhere, and the drywall should be trimmed.

We check the upper part of the opening and the floor for parallelism to each other (tolerance no more than 5 mm) and for horizontalness. Using a plumb line, we check the sides of the opening; here a deviation of no more than 5 mm per 2000 mm is allowed. The more even the walls you can achieve, the more tightly the door leaf will fit against them.

Installing a box is a responsible job

If old box dismantled, then install a new one. It is very difficult to cope here alone, so it is better to invite a partner. Install the box in doorway and level it using small wedges. We adjust the angle of the structure relative to the floor and walls by moving or recessing the wedges.

Install the door frame, leveling it using wedges

We fix the box to the wall with screws. We use a screwdriver very carefully, since any, even minor, damage can lead to dire consequences.

Attach the upper guides

After the door frame is ready, we place the door leaf against the opening and mark its top level on the wall with a pencil. Now we carry out the same procedure, but by installing the canvas directly into the doorway. This must be done in case the floor plane is suddenly not level enough.

If the resulting line is horizontal, measure 70 mm upward from it and draw another line. This is where the guide rail will be installed. We attach a pre-prepared wooden beam to the marked line and fix it with screws as tightly as possible, regardless of the evenness of the wall. To do this, we use as many screws as needed.

Attach the rail to the bottom of the beam

Now to the bottom end wooden beam attach the rail. First, loosely screw the guide on one side. To accurately determine the location of the screw, it is necessary to divide the thickness of the door in half and add 3-5 mm, necessary to ensure free movement of the sash (distance from the wall). We carry out the same operation on the other side of the block. Before final fastening the rail, be sure to ensure there is sufficient distance between the door leaf and the wall.

Important: the guide rail must be strictly straight, not the slightest bend is allowed, regardless of the curvature of the wall and beam.

Now you can finally secure the guide.

Assembling carriages and installing limiters

Before final assembly carriages, you need to make sure they move freely

Tip: no need to lubricate anything inner part guide.

We install travel limiters along the edges of the guide rail, making sure that the rubber shock absorbers point inward.

Groove at the bottom of the door leaf

We begin to design the groove at the bottom end of the door. To do this, we retreat 15 mm from the edge of the sash and drill two holes on each side with a diameter of 7 mm and a depth of 20 mm, between which we cut out a groove intended for the lower guide exactly in the middle.

It is difficult to make a perfectly even groove even with a router. Beginners can be advised to install slats or a U-shaped profile.

The depth of the groove should be at least 18 mm, and the width should be 2-3 mm greater than the width of the bottom guide, usually a flag or knife. Since it is very problematic to make a perfectly even recess yourself even with the help of an electric drill or router, it is preferable to install a U-shaped profile or two slats.

Fastening to carriages is an important detail

Fastenings to the carriages should be attached exactly in the middle at a distance of at least two millimeters from the side edges of the sash. In this case, the semicircular cutouts on the brackets should be turned towards the wall.

Installation of door leaf

Two people are required to install the door leaf. After attaching the blade to the rail, we align the bolt of the right carriage with the cutout on the bracket located on the same side. To do this, you need to lift the door a little. We insert the end of the bolt into the mounting hole of the adjusting nut with a washer, which should remain outside the bracket. We fasten the brackets to the bolts of the carriages, but not completely.

Now we install the lower guide into the cutout of the lower end. This is easy to do by slightly moving the bottom part away from the wall. We return the canvas to a horizontal position and move it to open state. Use a pencil to mark the longest opening length. To adjust the gap between the wall and the doors, you need to tilt the lower part of the door leaf until it reaches it and mark the position of the knife on the floor.

Important: the gap between the wall and the door leaf should not exceed 5 mm.

After removing the carriage nuts, remove the canvas and attach the lower guide to the floor using two self-tapping screws.

We align the groove with the guide and hang the door leaf again, also not fully tightening the nuts. After setting the required gap between the floor and the door leaf, by tightening or loosening the adjustment bolts on the carriages, fasten the nuts while simultaneously holding the adjustment bolts from turning.

Decorative design of the sliding system

We install a decorative folding trim above the top rail and disguise it in accordance with the general style of the room (you can paste it with the same wallpaper, or paint it with the same paint as the walls of the room). Attach handles and lock.

How to install a sliding door - video instructions

In order to better understand how to install a sliding door, the video will demonstrate in detail some of the nuances of installing a system with a false wall.

After watching the recording, you can assemble your first sliding structure in literally 3-5 hours.

Of course, install a sliding interior door You can do it yourself, but in this case you cannot vouch for the quality. After all, only a specialist will be able to take into account all the nuances of each specific case and equip your home with a sliding system that will delight you for many years with its excellent and, most importantly, uninterrupted operation.

There is so little space in a small apartment that even the opening of the interior door creates inconvenience. They help partially solve the problem, but the fabric extending behind the partition makes it difficult to install the furniture. The best option It is considered a cassette design, which provides for the sliding door to roll back into the wall due to the pencil case.

According to the principle of operation, cassette interior doors are no different from designs that require the door to be rolled back behind the wall. The mechanism consists of rollers and guide rails. The main difference is the ability to hide the door leaf inside the wall. This design is called a cassette or pencil case. It is made in the form of a flat box, replacing part of the wall. In addition to the sash, guide rails and a roller system are hidden inside the cassette.

Benefit from a pencil case for sliding doors - this is the creation free space inside the wall, the sash rolls into a cassette and does not interfere with installing furniture close to the interior partition. The pencil case protects the door leaf from dirt, scratching by pets and other damage.

For normal operation of a sliding door, a wall thickness corresponding to the parameters of the cassette is required. The structure should form a niche that does not protrude beyond the plane of the pier. In the sliding system, the thickness of the sash and the side posts of the pencil case, as well as the gaps between the elements for the free movement of the canvas, are taken into account. The width of the cassette is always made twice as large as the doorway. The half, intended for rolling back the canvas, is hidden behind a false plasterboard wall.

Varieties and features

The design is all the same. May vary dimensions, material, design of rollers and guide rails. The dimensions adhere to standards that imply a canvas height of 1.9–2 m and a width of 0.6 to 1 m. Built-in double doors compartment into the wall. If you need to deviate from the standards, a cassette is made required sizes to order.

The factory design is supplied in its entirety. The pencil case is already folded and ready for installation. At self-production the cassette is assembled from a thick board, timber, or galvanized profile. The door leaf can be adapted to any suitable size.

From additional accessories most often equip the system closer. The mechanism creates a smooth closing of the sash. For complete convenience, the sliding interior door, hidden in the wall, is equipped with automation. The canvas opens when a person approaches and closes after he passes through doorway. The automation is triggered by sensor signals. The canvas is moved by an electric motor.

Automation is rarely installed in residential premises due to cost and impracticality. Autonomous systems are in demand in shops and other buildings where a large flow of people passes through the day.

Main advantages and disadvantages

When deciding to install a sliding door in a pencil case, you need to weigh all the pros and cons of the design. Advantage The following factors can be considered:

  • Space saving. The absence of a swing sash eliminates the formation dead zone. You can place furniture close to the wall and it will not interfere with the opening of the canvas.
  • Reduces the likelihood of injury. A person walking in the dark sometimes hits the end of an open swing door. The sensations are unpleasant and sometimes dangerous. No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to hit the end of the sliding panel.
  • Increased service life. Due to the rollers, the weight of the door leaf is evenly distributed across the frame lintels. The box becomes more resistant to loosening and does not warp. The linen hidden inside the pencil case is protected from pets and will not be smeared by children.
  • Sliding design visually expands the space, creates a zoning effect, emphasizing the modern style in the interior.

Disadvantage is high price. Qualitative roller mechanism Expensive. Additionally, the costs of purchasing or manufacturing a pencil case are taken into account. It is difficult to install a cassette for a sliding door yourself. If you have no experience, you will have to hire specialists.

One more minus is reduction in sound insulation. There is a gap at the bottom and top of the end of the door leaf. It will not be possible to ensure silence in the room. Additionally, odors will penetrate from the kitchen through the gaps. The problem will have to be solved by installing a powerful hood.

Do-it-yourself cassette door installation

Before you start making a pencil case for a sliding door, determine the width of the opening. The design of the entire system will depend on this parameter. There are two types of cassette coupes:

  • Single leaf. Door blocks Designed for standard narrow passages to the bedroom, kitchen,.
  • Bivalve. Door blocks are designed for wide passages. Often such openings are installed in the living room or when combining rooms. The design consists of two separate cassettes installed according to different sides passage. The result is combined single-leaf systems, where each leaf rolls back in the opposite direction.

When making a pencil case for sliding doors with your own hands, take into account the type of wall. The usual non-load-bearing interior partition is completely dismantled. In its place, a structure with a niche is being erected. A sliding door with a plasterboard partition forms a false wall, which is a cassette. The construction of a new wall allows you to save usable area due to the preservation of the original thickness.

Cannot be dismantled. The frame of the pencil case will have to be attached to the surface and covered with plasterboard on top. The result will be a double thickening of the wall and a reduction in space, but there is no other way out.

Install cassette door compartment after finishing the floor. Should be completed by this time final leveling, and the thickness of the floor covering is also taken into account.

Installation procedure

They try to roll the hung door on rollers. The movement should be smooth, easy, without rumble or jumps. It is important not to forget about the limiters that serve as a stop for the sliding sash.

After successful testing of the sliding structure, the niche frame is sheathed with sheets of plasterboard. Further actions are sent to decorative finishing false walls and framing the ends of the cassette forming the door frame.

Sliding interior doors, which have many models and can be used in any room, have become quite popular in apartment interiors. With their help they separate living rooms into several zones and improve the design of an apartment or house. Sliding doors are especially popular in conditions small apartments, uniting limited space(cm. ).

Sliding interior doors: installation methods

Sliding interior doors are divided according to:

  • manufacturing method;
  • the material used;
  • decorative coating.

Based on their production, panel and panel products are distinguished. They are made solid and with glazing. The materials used for production are fibreboards, particle boards and MDF boards. Veneer that imitates natural wood is used as decor. different breeds, lamination and melamination of surfaces.

A sliding door is, first of all, a product that combines wooden, metal and glass elements, with high-quality fittings and a functional mechanism.

Installation methods

Installation of sliding interior doors is carried out in two main ways:

In the first case, the doors move along rails that are installed on the floor and ceiling. The second option involves installing one rail above the doorway.

Cheaper and affordable option is the installation of sliding doors along two guides.

Sliding interior doors move using rollers that move along guides. It is especially important to maintain the horizontal surface of the floor and the beam on the ceiling where the upper guide is installed. Otherwise, the door on rollers will move spontaneously. In some cases, metal fasteners are used, but they can ruin general form products.

Using the second installation option - along two guides, has more aesthetic appearance. There is no obstacle in the form of a plank on the floor. When the door of space rolls back neighboring rooms smoothly connect with each other.

The canvas itself moves through the movement of rollers, which move along a guide installed on the ceiling. The number of rollers depends on the type of door leaf.

There are more innovative systems sliding doors. These include the cassette installation method. In this case, the door leaf is hidden in a niche. Install sliding doors yourself using cassette system not difficult, although this option is considered the most expensive.

The design of interior sliding doors ensures that the movement system is completely built into the wall. It is necessary to arrange a niche with a built-in metal frame. For this purpose, the segment is destroyed existing wall and a plasterboard box is made.

The work may become more complicated if the wall into which the box with the cassette block is mounted is load-bearing. Before making a sliding door with your own hands, you must obtain permission for such repair work.

Installing doors in this way allows you to conveniently place furniture or household appliances and does not reduce the area of the room.

Types of sliding doors and their scope

One of the most popular models is the sliding door system. This is the safest option and is suitable for families with small children. They open without using excessive force.

has a silent sliding system that does not create extraneous sounds when the canvas moves. The design has soundproofing properties. It is attached to the ceiling and walls using special cassettes. They are quite expensive, so false wall sliding door systems are more popular.

When using such a mechanism, the door is placed along the wall and moves with guides installed on the floor and ceiling.

The door leaf is made of aluminum profile and glass composite. The second option is more unique. Fiberglass composite is transparent material, consisting of fiberglass and having particular strength. He does not rot and is not afraid of influence chemical solutions used for surface cleaning.

Veneered sliding doors are often used in the interior of a house. They are made from aluminum profile. In appearance, the doors resemble a product made from natural wood, but are much cheaper.

The budget option is considered to be installed in the house sliding accordion door. In the recent past, they were made from cheap plastic and installed instead of doors in closets and other utility rooms.

Modern accordion doors are made from metal, glass and wood. They are successfully used in design modern apartments. With the help of such sliding doors, the space of one-room small apartments is zoned.

When to install sliding doors

Sometimes, to decorate the interior of a house, the use of sliding interior doors is mandatory. This applies to the following cases:

  1. The need to close a large opening. It happens that a standard door with double fabric cannot cope with such a task, and also takes up a lot of space.
  2. If there is a catastrophic lack of space in the apartment. This confirms the main advantage of sliding doors - freeing up space. The design of some premises does not at all provide for the presence of traditional swing doors.
  3. Zoning of premises. Sliding doors are especially indispensable when combining the living room and kitchen. When dining with guests, the effect of being in a large, spacious kitchen is created. Sliding doors can also be used when combining a corridor and a dressing room.
  4. Correction of room space. With the help of sliding doors you can adjust the door and window openings of the loggia. If you install them in the form of an arch, the opening becomes wider and higher, which improves the overall design of the apartment or house. They adjust the space of the room in height by installing the upper guide in the ceiling niche.
  5. If there is large furniture in the house. An interior sliding door allows you to place furniture close to the doorway.

The sliding interior door is also used in case of replacement interior partition. The latter is limited in choice appearance and the material from which it is made. Then, a sliding door can complement any interior.

Sliding door designs

Each type of sliding door design solves individual functional problems in arranging the space of a house or apartment. Depending on the tasks, the following design options are distinguished:

Installing sliding interior doors with your own hands, the video is posted below, in addition to the advantages, it also has some disadvantages.

When opening, the roller mechanisms create noise. It is almost impossible to move such a door silently. This is especially inconvenient in the morning. During long-term operation The sounds when opening only get louder.

Over time, component parts - rollers and carriages - wear out. They need to be changed more often than, for example, hinges and locks on a swing door.

Installation of sliding doors, taking into account the cost of installation, the cost of components and the canvas itself, will cost more standard doors. Sliding doors have less sound and heat insulation, since there is a gap between the door leaf and the wall, which cannot be removed.

Which doors to choose – hinged or sliding – depends on the individual preferences of the homeowner. However, a sliding interior door solves the issue of saving free space in small rooms.

Installation of sliding doors in thin walls - video

The peculiarity of sliding doors is that when opened, they do not take up useful space in the room and save space, and therefore everyone gives preference to them more people. Today, such doors can be glass or made of other materials, such as wood.

U hanging structures the peculiarity is that they can have different quantities valves This allows you to completely divide the room into two different rooms. You can also isolate the room from other rooms

Kinds

Before you start choosing sliding doors, you must first understand their design. This will make it easier to install such a door if you install it yourself.

There is a difference between a sliding door and a regular one. It lies in the fact that For ordinary doors, the leaf is connected to the frame. At sliding mechanism there is no such connection. These are two separate parts that can perform different functions and are independent of each other.

IN regular doors box is basic load-bearing structure, on which the canvas is hung. In swing doors these are separate elements, and the box plays more of a decorative role, giving the opening a beautiful appearance.

The load-bearing role in single-leaf swing systems is played by another element, which is installed on the side of the door on the wall. The door leaf moves along it. This usually happens with the help of rollers and guides.

As you might guess, guides and wheels are the main part of the swing structure. It is designed quite simply: rollers move along an aluminum rail, which, in turn, are attached to the canvas. The latter simply hangs on such a profile and moves along it using rollers.

There are also special stops in the profile that are installed additionally. It is because of them that the canvas cannot move more than the prescribed distance to the side. The limiters do not allow the door to move further in both directions.

Exactly like this simple design swing doors makes their installation quite simple and does not require special preparation. That is why many residents of both private houses and apartments install such systems today.

Advantages and disadvantages

Initially, sliding systems were quite fragile and unreliable. Also, the sashes did not move well along the slats and sometimes got stuck, which caused a lot of unpleasant moments for the owners. Now everything has changed, as high-quality fittings and other elements of the system have appeared.

Advantages of modern mechanisms:

  1. They do not open in drafts.
  2. Save space in the room.
  3. Possibility to choose different material doors.
  4. You can implement any design innovations.
  5. There are no elements that creak.
  6. Safety.
  7. Harmonious combination.

There are also disadvantages to sliding systems:

  1. Cannot avoid cracks.
  2. They are relatively expensive compared to conventional systems.
  3. Poor installation can lead to the fact that the sashes will not move well on the slats.
  4. There must be free space on the side where the sash will move.
  5. When the door is hidden in a niche, a lot of dust can collect there, which will be difficult to remove.

Based on the above, it turns out that before making a decision to install such systems, you need to carefully weigh and think through everything, study examples. After this, it will become clear whether to install such a system or not.

Installation features

Typically, installing such mechanisms is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Installation of interior doors will take 2-3 hours if available minimum experience. This way you can also install furniture mechanisms in cabinets or on bedside tables. But usually this will need to be done in an apartment when the cabinets are built into the walls.

Acceptable use automatic parts , making the process of opening or closing doors even easier. But it requires additional elements for installation and cannot always be done on your own. Therefore, such structures will be discussed separately.

In order to install the system immediately and correctly, you first need to take measurements and make calculations. Initially, you need to understand that sliding systems can be of the following types:

  1. The canvas moves along the wall.
  2. The canvas moves in the wall.

In the first case, the entire structure will be supported by a profile that is attached to the wall. In the second case, the web can also move on the lower suspension. But this method has one drawback, namely, that there will be a threshold in front of the doors. Also, sometimes two of these types of fastenings can be used at once. This ensures the reliability and durability of the system.

It is important to remember that in many cases the cost of the mechanism itself depends not on the type of wood and the material of its manufacture, but also on the quality of the fittings. If you buy inexpensive trim or handles, you can save a lot.

You need to know that when you plan to make a door that will move inside the wall, you can not knock out the opening, but simply make an overlay wall from plasterboard. This will reduce the time required to complete the work. This will also help keep the wall structure the same and intact.

Mechanisms

Sliding structures can be equipped different types mechanisms. Among them are:

  1. Hidden. The canvas moves inside the wall. Everything for such a system should be prepared at initial stage. To do this, you will need to knock out a hole inside the wall or lay sheets of gypsum board over it. As a result of such actions, the thickness of the wall may be slightly increased, which will take away the usable area of the room. Also, debris and dust will accumulate in such niches, which will make cleaning difficult.
  2. Open. Installation of such a mechanism can be carried out at any time. It is important here that there is an opening to the side of the door and enough space to install the guides. There is no need to carry out any work to rebuild the wall. In this case, there are many options for installing guides, which makes it possible to choose best option for one occasion or another.

Guides

The last thing to consider when making an installation decision is sliding structures, these are on the profiles along which the door will move. They can be placed at the bottom or at the top. It all depends on the design features. They can also be placed on both sides at the same time:

  • Upper. This option for installing profiles is the most popular. It turns out that the canvas will hang on the profile along which it moves. This can be done when the weight of the canvas itself is small. Such guides can last longer, removing dust from the rollers will be simplified, and they will not jam.
  • Lower ones. Such guides are rarely used, as they are subject to deformation during use and therefore may not last long. Such skids will require constant cleaning from dust and debris. The door will not slide smoothly if it does not have support at the top.
  • Combined. They are used in cases where the system is large and heavy. This ensures a smoother glide through the openings.

Required Tools

To avoid any hiccups in the work, before you begin installation, you should purchase all the materials and prepare the tools. They can be bought at any specialized store. Without them it will be impossible to do this work.

Will be needed:

  • Pencil case for sliding door;
  • Fastening;
  • Pens;
  • Drill;
  • Correct guide;
  • Cassette in the wall;
  • Niche fasteners;
  • Liquid Nails;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • anchor;
  • Racks;
  • Canvas;
  • Wooden beam.

It is also worth purchasing a system on which the door will move. This can be a system made of plastic, metal or aluminum. It is also important to buy high-quality rollers made of plastic alloy so that they do not jam and move smoothly along the guides.

Step-by-step instruction

If the design has complex shape or heavy weight, then the presence of a specialist will be required to perform such work. Therefore, it is important not to start such an event on your own, as this can lead to disastrous results and affect costs. If you don’t have the skills to do this kind of work, you can only install small systems yourself.

When a ready-made set of doors was purchased, such work could be carried out quite simply. It doesn't require a lot of effort and time. The system will have everything necessary to carry out such work. It will only take prepare and install everything correctly.

If you need to install a system according to your own design, then such work will be quite difficult to complete. Here you will need to individually select all the fittings, guides, hinges and other elements for this or that case.

Typically, the installation of the mechanism begins with the opening. To do this, you need to dismantle the old canvas and put the opening in order. You can use cement to level the walls or plastering work. All irregularities and cracks must be removed from the wall surface. Drywall should be trimmed evenly along the edge, and excess cement and a layer of plaster should be removed.

In order for the guides to run parallel to the floor, you need to knock out a straight line above the opening, onto which the guide rail will be attached. If it is still attached to the wall decorative element, then you will also need to leave a place for it and place it exactly above the door.

It is also worth checking the top element of the opening in relation to the floor. They must be parallel. Using a plumb line, you need to check the opening itself and its perpendicularity to the floor. A deviation of 5-10 millimeters is allowed. But at the same time, the smoother the wall is, the more tightly the canvas will adhere to it.

Next you need to put the box. It will be difficult to cope with such work on your own. A partner will be required. The box must be installed in the opening and leveled there using wedges. It should be level with the floor and walls. After this, the box should be secured with anchors or screws. You need to tighten it carefully so as not to move it.

Next, you will need to check the correctness and parallelism of the guide attachment line relative to the door opening. This needs to be done, since the floor may not be very level, especially in apartments. If the line is correct, then it should be the same distance from the opening at all corners.

The guide is attached along this line. To ensure that the canvas lies tightly, the guide should be attached to the wall as rigidly as possible. Self-tapping screws and anchors are used for this.

Limiters

After such work, each carriage must be attached to the door and inserted into the guide. Limiters are also placed there. They should protrude slightly from the rail so that the rollers do not jump over them. You should also make sure that the rollers move freely in the rack.

To ensure long-term operation of the rollers and their free movement in the rack, you should not lubricate them with anything, as dust will accumulate there.

Canvas

To correctly and quickly install the canvas with your own hands, you will need an assistant and a diagram. The canvas must be placed tightly against the guide and the rollers must be inserted inside. Then they are attached to the canvas so that they sit there firmly. Wherein It is important that the gap between the door and the base does not exceed 5 millimeters. If this does not happen, then the canvas must be tightened using self-tapping screws.
