Steam generators for baths and saunas: operating principle, models, reviews. Making a steam generator for a sauna with your own hands The device of a steam generator in a sauna stove

A homemade steam generator for a bath can serve either as an addition to the stove or as an independent device. It is increasingly used in the bath to create healing and soft steam. The device can be purchased at finished form, but it will be cheaper to do it yourself.

Content:

Steam can heal the body and cleanse the skin if used in the right quantities. Having a sauna steam generator, you no longer need to periodically pour water on the stones to get a certain amount of steam. The steam generator is capable of producing steam in required quantity. At the same time, water is also saved significantly. In addition, the steam generator is quite compact in size and does not take up much space in the bathhouse. It is quite easy to install and can be done by one person.

Features of the steam generator in the bath

The production of steam from a “store” steam generator can be controlled using a special control panel. You can set the steam temperature and quantity. The steam temperature can be set up to 95 degrees. In addition, industrial models of steam generators have built-in programs that are capable of creating a temperature regime and the amount of steam supplied, simulating a hammam, Russian or Finnish sauna. Another advantage is that the steam from the steam generator is softer than that from pouring water on stones.

Let's look at how a steam generator works:

  • Security sensor;
  • Water container;
  • A pump that moves steam and water;
  • Water treatment unit;
  • Steam generation block;
  • Control device.
On outside The steam generator contains indicators and a control panel.

Types of steam generators for baths

Steam generators come in manual and automatic water filling. With automatic filling, the steam generator is connected directly to the water supply. Modern installations They are mainly equipped with automation that controls both the temperature in the steam room and the water temperature.

There are several types of steam generators:

  • Industrial. The voltage is 220–300 volts, they are designed for public saunas.
  • Household. Power reaches 4–16 kilowatts, suitable for home use.

For a steam room with a size of 10–13 cubic meters, a steam generator of 8–9 kilowatts is suitable. If the room is more than 15 cubic meters, then it would be optimal to install a steam generator of 12 kilowatts. For a small steam room of up to 5 cubic meters, a steam generator with a power of 5 kilowatts is quite enough.

There are 3 main types of water heating for steam generators:
  • Electrode. In this case, current passes through the water through the electrodes. This heats the water.
  • With the help of heating elements. The water is heated special devices different power.
  • Induction. Water is heated according to the same principle as in a microwave oven.

Do-it-yourself steam generator for a bath

Considering that the price of an industrial branded steam generator can range from 1 to 10 thousand dollars, it makes sense to build the structure yourself. There are two time-tested methods - a steam generator in the oven and separately worthwhile installation to generate steam. Let's look further at how to make a homemade steam generator using both methods.

Instructions for creating a stove steam generator for a bath

True connoisseurs of bath steam do not recognize electric steam generators. Such amateurs prefer to build steam generators directly in sauna stove. We will need the following materials: economizer pipe (from 100 rubles per piece), magnesite sheets (from 340 rubles per piece).

The design is made according to the following scheme:

  1. We increase the inertia of the steam room. To do this, you need to increase the weight of the stones. If the oven holds about 60–80 kilograms, we make an additional steel trough. We install it in the oven.
  2. Lay a layer of stones.
  3. We install steam guns.
  4. To get rid of hard infrared radiation, we line the stove with bricks.
  5. We cover the pipe with the economizer with magnesite sheets. First you need to hang them on the frame. To do this, we make duralumin blanks and screw the sheets onto the frame in such a way as to leave gaps between them. This ensures convection.
  6. We add another layer of stones in order to completely block the path to the radiation.

Creating a homemade electric steam generator for the furnace

A unit created according to the diagram below will operate under high pressure. Therefore, care should be taken to ensure that the housing is of appropriate thickness. To make a homemade steam generator, you can use a regular gas cylinder. It just needs to be slightly modernized.

Materials that will be needed during the work process:

  • Gas cylinder (from 4300 rubles);
  • Heating heating elements (about 140 rubles per piece);
  • Pressure gauge (about 450 rubles).
Step-by-step instructions for creating an electric steam generator:
  1. For the base we take gas cylinder. We release the gas from it, remove the valve and thoroughly rinse the inside of the cylinder warm water with any detergent until the smell disappears completely. We dry the balloon.
  2. We select heating elements for 10 liters of water - 3 kilowatts. We mount them in the lower part of our cylinder. When creating a mount, keep in mind that the pressure must be at least six atmospheres, and the mount must withstand it.
  3. Next we need to make 4 threaded tubes. A valve for collecting pressure, a tap for filling the steam generator with water, and automation system devices will be screwed onto them.
  4. Then, on the side of the tubes and at a distance of 10 cm from the top, we weld a tube with a ball valve, which will control the water level. When water is drawn, you need to open the tap and wait for water to flow from it. If water flows, it means there is enough of it, and close the tap.
  5. To create a steam extraction device, we will use a brass valve from a cylinder. We saw it in half, remove the top rod and make a hole measuring 15 mm. Then we cut the thread and screw on the ball valve.
  6. Pressure gauges can be used as sensors to monitor temperature and pressure. Instruments and instruments are suitable. Connect the devices - and when the limitation is triggered, the heating will automatically turn off. For the load, use a magnetic starter coil.
  7. We install the steam generator using a steam line.

Remember: the steam generator should not be placed directly in the steam room. It should be located in a separate room, but next to her. The room must be dry and well ventilated. The length of the steam line from the room with the steam generator to the steam room should be as short as possible. Make sure that condensation and water pockets do not form.

Learn more about the operation of a steam generator for a bath in the video:

As can be seen from the instructions, the design of a steam generator for a bath is not complicated, but rather labor-intensive in the creation process. When producing steam generators, great attention should be paid to the safety system. After all, the steam generator runs on electricity, and contact between electrics and steam is a rather unsafe phenomenon.

A traditional Russian bath requires a stove-stove. However, its design and operation is not easy and requires skills. If we talk about “extracting” soft and light steam from the stove, then this skill is akin to talent - there are a lot of features and nuances that need to be taken into account. And the choice and installation of even the most basic iron stove is a troublesome and complex matter - you need to think through and ensure fire safety, take care of the installation of the chimney and its proper wiring through the roof, strengthen the foundation, if this was not provided for during planning. In general, there is enough trouble. An easier solution is to install a steam generator. These are small (relative to the size of the oven) devices equipped with a control system that are capable of producing steam of different humidity and temperature.

Steam generators can work in tandem with a furnace or separately from it. But they can only fully heat a small steam room - about 4-6 m 3 - depending on the model and power.

Steam generators - small devices

In short, the operating principle of electric steam generators is to convert water poured into a tank into steam. This can only be done with heated surfaces. They can be heated using any coolant: gas (liquefied and natural), solid and liquid fuel, electricity. Household steam generators are only electric. Moreover, they also mainly work on heating elements. Other types - induction and electrode - are mainly used in industrial models. So for home use, only steam generators on heating elements remain.

Design and principle of operation of electric steam generators

Depending on the connection method, steam generators can be autonomous or automatic. Autonomous ones require you to fill the appropriate tanks with water, while automatic ones do this on their own. But their installation automated systems complex: connection to the water supply system is required. In addition, these models have one significant drawback: the water in our pipes has a large number of impurities, which leads to the formation of large amounts of scale. It must be removed regularly. Of course, there is a solution - to install a water treatment system, as well as washing and purification. But these functions complicate the design, which invariably affects the price.

In this sense, autonomous models are good: you can fill the container with purified or even distilled water. Since such devices have a simpler design, they are cheaper. Water tanks have quite large volumes - 3-6 liters, which is more than enough for home use. So they won’t burden you much with service.

Regardless of the connection method, these steam generators are structurally similar. There is a container filled with water. The container contains heating elements that heat it, and when it boils, steam is released. It comes out through the holes that are located at the top.

For anyone familiar with saunas, the disadvantage of this method is obvious: the steam produced is not hot - about 100°C, and heavy. And these are not at all the conditions we strive for. With such a couple, you will experience not lightness and an increase in strength, but weakness and lethargy. Not at all what is needed.

But our man is famous for finding a way out of any situation. So it is this time: the resulting raw steam is fired onto heated stones in an electric heater. As a result, it turns out that the load on the furnace is small, the heating elements in it are not overloaded, which extends its service life. At the output we have well-heated light steam: raw steam, passing through heated stones, has reached good conditions. There is one connection feature: the steam line must have a slope (in any direction) so that the condensate formed on the walls can flow either back into the container with water, or onto the stones of the heater. This one is simple, but very effective method get required characteristics pair.

This is a steam generator from Teplodar

But there is one electric steam generator, which immediately produces light and well-heated steam. This is “InSteam-Energy” from Teplodar. Since this company has been producing sauna stoves for a long time, it is familiar with the requirements of sauna attendants. Their product has more complex design, but it turns out transparent, heated to high temperatures steam. Below is the video. This is an advertising video, but you can get the essence and the difference.

For metal sauna stoves

There is another type of device, which is also called steam generators. This different designs made of metal, which are built into. They are offered by manufacturers of sauna stoves. Some models have built-in such devices, in some they are an option (purchased separately, then installed). The designs may be different. Here are some of them:

No matter how attractive these devices look, there is a drawback: they are not stones. Overheated metal still has some specific odor, which does not happen from stones. That’s why sauna connoisseurs believe that the best steam in a sauna comes from the stones. Find yourself a stove that has an internal heater. And no steam generators are needed. But this is in a stationary Russian bathhouse. And as a “home” option, an electric steam generator is perhaps a worthy invention.

and no steam generator is needed

Capabilities of electric steam generators

Modern models are capable of producing steam of different humidity and temperature (from 35 o C to 95 o C). These data are set on the control panel, and all conditions are maintained automatically using sensors. This makes it possible to create in one room an atmosphere characteristic of.

Due to the fact that steam generators operate in conditions high humidity, they are subject to high safety requirements. The performance of the device is constantly monitored and at the slightest deviation from the norm, the power is automatically turned off.

The power of steam generators varies widely - household models have from 4 kW to 18 kW, industrial ones are many times more powerful. The choice of device for this parameter depends on the volume of the room. For a small steam room up to 5 cubic meters The power of the steam generator should be no more than 5 kW, up to 13 cubic meters 8-9 kW is enough, and for more spacious ones, very powerful models are needed - up to 12-14 kW.

Rules for installing steam generators

It is not always possible or desirable to install another device in a small steam room. Then the housing is placed outside, and steam is supplied through a heat-resistant hose - a steam line. When choosing an installation location, you need to consider several points:

That's all the requirements. Any more or less technically competent person can cope with the installation.

Steam generator manufacturers

Most of this equipment is of imported origin. But he recently joined the campaign of the Finns, Swiss and Germans Russian manufacturer- Teplodar. Their equipment is amazing. Firstly, the low price - it is 2-3 times less than devices of similar power from market leaders (Teplodarovsky ones cost 6.5 - 8.5 thousand rubles, and all others - from 18 to 28 thousand rubles) Firstly, secondly, better steam conditions.

There is another Russian enterprise that produces steam generators for baths, hammams and saunas. This is the Voronezh enterprise "PAROMAX", which produces heating elements and steam generators of the same name.

As in the situation with sauna stoves, the Finns are considered to be the market leaders: HELO produces ergonomic steam generators in a wide range of capacities, with various additional functions (possibility of steam aromatization, pre-treatment of supplied water, tank cleaning system, digital remotes controls, etc.) Sawo is not far behind - they also have a considerable selection.

Also popular are products from the Swedish company Tylo, which are distinguished by their high reliability and unpretentious operating conditions. There are also steam generators on the market from Harvia, which produces reliable and high-quality devices.

Germans are present in smaller numbers: companies Eos, Dr. Kern presents vertical models that are rarely found on the market. They are installed on the floor and look like small columns.

Regular visits to the steam room will help improve your body health and get a lot of pleasure. To get steam, most sauna lovers splash water on hot stones from time to time in the old fashioned way, but you can make a steam generator with your own hands that will produce optimal quantity steam without wasting too much water. This device is small in size, has a simple design and can be used without a stove, even in city apartments.

Factory devices have software control that allows you to set the modes of a Russian bath, Finnish sauna or Turkish hammam. To do this, the temperature and volume of supplied steam are regulated. A DIY steam generator for a bath can also be adapted for all three modes. The resulting steam will be more delicate than when harshly pouring water on hot stones.

Which steam generator is suitable for different baths

Setting aside differences in traditional ways construction and selection of materials for each type of bath, we can highlight the main features of the Russian, Finnish steam room and hammam, which consist in the current temperature and humidity conditions:

  1. In a Russian bath, you need to ensure an average temperature of 60 and approximately the same air humidity percentage.
  2. the highest humidity is required (up to 90%), but low temperature (40-45).
  3. IN Finnish sauna dry hot (100) air with a humidity of about 10-15%.

The dryness of the hot air in the sauna is ensured by the oven door being open so that the hot stones remove moisture more effectively. It is not necessary to install a steam generator here, it will do steam gun small sizes.

In a hammam, where a large amount of low-temperature steam is required, you can create such a regime by pouring a lot of water onto hot stones, but you need a large oven volume. A steam generator is indispensable here, which guarantees the production of light, dispersed steam, and not heavy and damp.

The Russian steam room is a combination of a sauna and a hammam, incorporating them best sides. The required performance can be achieved using a fairly efficient steam generator that produces steam at elevated temperatures.

An additional advantage of using a steam generator is accelerated heating of the room (this is especially true in cold weather) and long-term heat retention.

How does a steam generator work?

The principle of operation of the steam generator is reminiscent of boiling water in a kettle, when steam is released through a narrow spout. Using a valve on top of the hermetically sealed tank, the pressure level inside is regulated. The temperature of the steam depends on the pressure. Thus, they are created different types baths

To use a steam generator together with a stove-heater, you need a design so that steam from the device flows onto the stones for the purpose of additional heating. As a result, the steam generator consumes less electricity, and due to a slight reduction in the heating of the stones, the service life of the stove is extended. This arrangement of the bathhouse is preferable, but if it is not possible to fold the stove, the steam generator can be used independently, consuming more power. But you can save on expensive stove construction.

The main structural components of the steam generator are:

  • water tank;
  • heating elements;
  • evaporation chamber;
  • safety sensors and valves;
  • Control block.

On the outside of the metal case there are:

Important: To equip a modest steam room with a volume of up to 5 cubic meters. m steam generator power should be 4-5 kW. For large rooms up to 18 cubic meters. m need at least 12 kW.

Depending on type heating elements steam generators are:

  1. Stoves. On the side walls of the oven there are special narrow chambers into which water is poured. It is heated by the fire of the stove and evaporates after boiling.
  2. Electrode. Liquid heating is based on the principle of current flow between electrodes.
  3. Using tubular heating elements - heating elements.
  4. Induction. A hollow metal circuit is constructed that is heated by self-induction currents. Liquid circulates inside the circuit.

Water supply methods

Water is supplied to the steam generator tank using two methods:

  • self-filling of water by the user;
  • automatic supply from the water supply.

If you make a steam generator for a bath yourself, then automatic feeding water is more difficult to implement. Another disadvantage of this scheme is the content of impurities in tap water or its increased hardness quickly provokes the formation of scale, which will require frequent cleaning. When filling the reservoir manually, you can use distilled water.

Self-production and installation of an electric steam generator

Factory-made steam production devices are convenient and functional, but they are not cheap. The price of a small home appliance ranges from 20 thousand to 80 thousand rubles. Therefore, many craftsmen are thinking about how to make a steam generator themselves.

Features of installing a steam generator

  1. The device is installed next to the steam room.
  2. The steam line is installed so that its length is as short as possible. Otherwise, condensation will form. During installation, bends in the steam line should be avoided to prevent liquid accumulation in pockets.
  3. Power supply is provided from a network of 220-380 V.
  4. It is necessary to equip the steam room with effective ventilation.

In order to adhere to a clear plan on how to make a steam generator for a home bath with your own hands, you need to be guided by the drawings of the installation diagram for a homemade apparatus.

Preparation of equipment and materials

What you will need for manufacturing and installation:

Important: The volume of the tank is selected based on the size of the steam room. General rule: for a 10-liter container, the power of the heating elements should be 3 kW.

The gas cylinder is prepared before use:

Step by step steps when using a gas cylinder

It is much simpler to make a hermetically sealed connection between two parts - weld them, but then the device will be beyond repair.

The designed device must be tested in action to identify and eliminate deficiencies.

Step by step steps when using a pressure cooker

It’s convenient to make a steam generator with your own hands from a pressure cooker for a small steam room. Much less manipulation will be required than with a gas cylinder.

  1. It is preferable to install the steam generator in the room adjacent to the steam room, since it is an electrical appliance that is dangerous in conditions of high humidity.
  2. The steam supply tube must be positioned at an angle so that the condensate can drain without forming a plug.
  3. Regular tap water It is better to pre-clean with a filter. To descale the liquid, you can add acetic acid.
  4. When performing various health procedures, herbal infusions or essential oils are added directly to the water.

Important: In order to ensure electrical safety, the metal body of the steam generator is grounded. An RCD should be used for connection.

DIY steam gun

In addition to electric ones, a steam gun is used. This simple device does not require drawings or complex calculations. Since the gun is installed in a finished stove-heater, it is designed depending on its size and shape.

The principle of operation of a steam gun is that water from a pipe into which it is poured from above hits the lower stones of the oven. Passing through them, the liquid turns into steam and enters the room.

For what purposes is the gun designed:

  • deliver water to the lower area of the heater;
  • produce additional heating of the steam, making it drier and lighter;
  • leave the steam at the top of the heater for some time, warming it up and reducing the humidity.

All structural elements assembled from parts available freely in stores. They must be resistant to corrosion. If it is not possible to buy parts from of stainless steel, suitable for cast iron - they will also last a long time.

First you need to prepare the materials:

  • steel funnel (preferably stainless steel);
  • corrugated pipes (approximately 2.2-2.5 m);
  • tees, adapters and pipe connectors;
  • fittings for connecting corrugated water pipes.

You can buy a ready-made check valve or use a plumbing valve. It is necessary to prevent water from splashing back and is used as a water supply dispenser.

Connections made using threads are sealed, for example, with fum tape.

Step by Step Actions

  1. The funnel is prepared (take a ready-made one or make it from a stainless steel sheet)
  2. Mounted check valve and connects using a fitting corrugated pipe. It can also be regular tap water.
  3. Using connecting elements, a device is manufactured in a shape that is suitable for placement in a stove-heater.
  4. Sections of corrugated pipe will serve as steam diffusers. A series of holes up to 2 mm in diameter are drilled onto them. If water evaporates at an accelerated rate during testing, some holes can be closed with self-tapping screws.
  5. The finished steam gun is placed in the oven and laid on top with stones.

During the first tests homemade device the liquid is filled in limited quantities, and the oven does not heat up completely. If the tests are successful, then you can test it in operating mode.

A homemade generator is easy to make, and a craftsman can make it within one day. It is impossible to completely replace the factory device, but as a result a more comfortable atmosphere will be created in the bathhouse and Better conditions for recovery.

Steam generators are special technical devices, allowing to obtain hot steam from water by increasing its heating. Devices with the effect of artificial steam generation can be used in a wide variety of areas, including installing them in your bath instead of a heater. At the same time, the design of the bath structure is greatly simplified, since any auxiliary room (shower room, for example) can be used as a steam room. K quite obvious advantages Modern steam generators include their compactness, mobility, and ease of execution, which allows anyone, without the involvement of specialists, to assemble a steam generator for a bath with their own hands.

In addition, these devices will cost you less than a heater, which requires not only a special foundation and a full-fledged chimney, but also mandatory compliance with safety requirements. Unlike furnaces, the steam generator only needs to be fixed in a selected location and connected to the power supply line.

Design

First of all, you should familiarize yourself with the structure of the steam generator, the design of which includes the following modules:

  • water supply channel;
  • water boiling unit with electric heaters;
  • evaporation module with steam nozzle.

You can, of course, purchase such a steam generator ready-made, but we warn you right away that it will not be cheap. That is why we suggest considering the option of a device assembled by yourself.

To make it, you can use a number of used household appliances, which are probably available in any household and, with the right approach, can become the basis for a homemade steam generator.

Choosing the right container

An old pressure cooker, in which the steam generation effect is provided for by its very design, can be used as a body or working container for a future steam generator. (If you don’t have the old appliance, you can purchase a new pressure cooker from a hardware store).

This steam device fully meets all the requirements necessary for the implementation of our project:

  • it is equipped with a hermetically sealed lid;
  • the body of the pressure cooker is strong enough to withstand the pressure required for operation;
  • the presence of a special valve makes it possible to “bleed off” excess steam.

After choosing a suitable working container, you will need to decide on the method of heating water in the device used to generate steam.

Selecting a heating element

The most convenient and safe way heating water inside the pressure cooker container is the use of a special heating device called TEN.

Note! An electric heater (TEH) is essentially a large boiler used to heat large volumes of water, which you can purchase at any hardware store. But before purchasing it, you should decide on the size and power of the electric heater, which can vary widely.

If you decide to save on a heater, you can disassemble an old-style household electric kettle or electric samovar and use the heating element built into it.

Note! Using a heating element from a modern electric kettle will require the invention of more complex fasteners. Also, the contacts of such heating elements are not intended for fixing wires to them.

Before assembling the steam generator, it is necessary to accurately calculate the number of devices that ensure the conversion of a given amount of water into steam (to heat large volumes, two or even three heaters may be required).

Assembly order

When choosing the location of the heating elements inside the container, one should proceed from the fact that their fastening and the tubes themselves do not have contact with the bottom and walls of the vessel being used. To do this, you will need to drill holes in the walls of the pressure cooker according to the fitting size of the heaters, into which the heating elements themselves can then be mounted (their height should be such that there is a gap of 0.5–1 cm between the working coils of the heater and the bottom of the pressure cooker).

When installing heating elements, special insulating washers are used, installed from the outside and inside containers, as well as a set of bolt fastenings included in the electric heater kit. To seal the mounting points of the heating elements on the wall of the pressure cooker, heat-resistant silicone gaskets are used together with washers, which you can buy in a store or make yourself.

How to make a silicone gasket?

For self-made silicone gaskets required:

  • take a sheet of plain paper and place it on a glass or metal surface;
  • after this, a sealant is applied to the surface of the paper, which is then carefully leveled;
  • another sheet of paper is placed on top of the sealant, which is then pressed against the glass;
  • After the resulting formation has dried, a gasket of the required shape is cut out of it.

Note! After installing the heaters at the mounting location, be sure to check the tightness of the connections obtained by pouring into the pressure cooker sufficient quantity liquids.

Next, you should organize a channel for water to enter the steam generator, for which a hole is made in the bottom of the pressure cooker for copper tube, through which liquid will constantly flow into the container. The supply tube must be located below the mounting level of the heating elements, which is prerequisite effective steam generation.

Another condition for the productive operation of the steam generator is the constant flow of new portions of water into it, which guarantees its effective work and will protect the device from damage (from burnout of heating elements, in particular).

Note! To organize a continuous supply of water to the converter, you can use an additional container of equal height, equipped with a float regulator. When the water level drops to a critical level, the float mechanism will open the channel for its entry, and after filling the tank, it will close it.

After this, it will be possible to connect the steam generator with an additional container using any suitable hose.

Steam generators for baths are also called steam generators. Their main goal is to turn any room into a full-fledged steam room filled with raw or light steam. Depending on the quality and density of it, you will get the microclimate of a real Russian steam room or a healing Turkish hammam. Yes, a steam generator for a bath is just that small device that supplies steam directly to the steam room. And it’s both convenient and profitable! Don't believe me? Let's look at this issue more closely.

Why does a Russian bath need a steam generator?

So, why is there steam in a sauna? After all, this is not only a pleasant procedure, but also:

  • Cleansing the body of invisible dirt.
  • Ridding the body of all kinds of toxins and waste.
  • Improvement and healing of skin and hair.
  • Beneficial effects on the lungs and throat.

The Russian bathhouse is famous for its steam - rich and light. Thanks to it, there is no need to use synthetic detergents in the steam room - it’s not without reason that steam mops wash no worse than “Mister Muscles”. But the fact is that most of the steam produced through the furnace literally flies into the chimney, while steam generators are closed systems with high pressure. In fact, they are simple in design, and therefore many Russian craftsmen build hand-made steam generators in their baths that work on the same principle.

Installing a massive sauna stove that produces good steam is a troublesome task. This includes making a foundation, installing a chimney, and carefully checking all the rules. fire safety... There are enough problems, in a word. Then the steam generator was hung up - and that’s all, you just need to figure out the remote control.

Let's summarize: electric steam generators are better than conventional ones in that all their work results remain only in the steam room and do not go down the drain. This is the maximum benefit. Secondly, the process itself can be completely automated, which will not work with firewood. After all, today a steam generator for baths and saunas with a remote control is not at all a miracle of technology. And what's interesting is high quality steam generator capable of producing even lighter steam than water on hot stones.

What is this device?

The main and only task of any steam generator is to turn the water poured into the tank into steam. But there are several ways to do this:

  1. Electrode, when current flows from electrode to electrode through water, and it heats up well.
  2. Using heating elements - special heaters with different powers.
  3. Induction - similar to how a mug is heated in water in a microwave oven.

Steam has different consistencies - different temperatures and humidity. So, for a bath, such a device is capable of producing from 35°C to 95°C, which can be easily set via the control panel. So you can create the atmosphere of a sauna, Russian bath or Turkish hammam in the same steam room.

And absolutely every steam generator is for Turkish bath, and for Russian - has the same structure:

  • container for water;
  • water treatment unit;
  • pump for water movement;
  • pump for steam movement;
  • steam generator;
  • Control block;
  • security sensors.

On the outside of the purchase, you will notice a pipe for connecting to the water supply system, a drain valve, connecting steam line outlets, connectors for sensors and a control panel for the device. A microprocessor and modern temperature sensors regulate the intensity of the steam supply - at your request, you can even set certain time intervals for the steam generator to operate.

Industrial models - overview of manufacturers

Now let's understand a little about brands. Thus, for the heavy, damp steam of oriental baths, the best steam generators are produced by the manufacturers HARVIA, TYLO, HELO and SAWO. All of their models are made of stainless steel, and the Finnish ones are also equipped with self-cleaning devices.

Some domestic models industrial furnaces for baths are also equipped with additional steam generators - a whole system of metal plates welded onto the body. They quickly heat up during the heating of the stove to 65°C, and when in contact with water they form a pleasant light steam. And this is not exactly the same steam that is obtained if water is poured directly onto the upper platform of the furnace - here the boiling water also collides with waves, rolling from one plate to another, which makes the steam even hotter and lighter. And especially good feedback about the stainless steel steam generator that comes complete with the Sahara sauna stove. It produces very light steam even when the stones are already warm.

And the most ergonomic steam generators are produced by HELLO, a market leader. These models come in a wide variety of capacities, with a variety of additional functions– steam aromatization, water purification before heating, digital control systems and much more.

Swedish steam generators from Tylo are considered the most reliable; they are highly reliable and unpretentious in operation. The highest quality products today are considered to be products from Harvia, naturally.

Pros and cons of installing such units

Generally speaking, here are the main advantages of modern steam generators for baths:

  • Full automation of control.
  • Organization of a constant, permanent process of steam formation without any surges in temperature and air humidity.
  • Power is only 3-12 kW.
  • There is no additional need for a stove - just install an electric heater or organize hidden heating.
  • Compact size, stylish design.
  • Steam generator control using electronic system– even through a modern telephone.

But ordinary people are not pleased with the following disadvantages of industrial steam generators:

  • Frequent breakdowns of quite expensive equipment.
  • The need for a powerful electrical input.
  • Dependence on power outages.
  • High price.

As for steam generators with a steam aromatization function, this is a particularly valuable acquisition. Just a few drops is enough essential oil into a special hole, and the steam will become not only pleasant, but also healing.

How to choose a quality steam generator?

Let's first understand: what is the efficiency of a steam generator? This is the amount of steam it produces per hour, its power and calculation for the steam room room. And the steam generators themselves are different. So, for private baths and saunas they are produced with a power of 4-12 kW, but for public steam rooms they are much more powerful - even for a voltage of 380 Volts.

So, for a small steam room of 5-6 cubic meters, a steam generator with a power of 4-5 kW is quite enough, but for a room with a volume of 10-12 cubic meters, the parameters are already needed within the range of 8-10 kW. For large steam rooms of about 18 cubic meters, only a steam generator with a power of at least 12 kW is suitable.

Even modern steam generators are autonomous and automatic in connection method. You need to fill the first ones with water, while the second ones are themselves connected to the water supply system. It would seem, why is the second option bad, and why then the first? The fact is that there are so many impurities in our pipes that scale cannot be avoided, and therefore sometimes it is better not to be lazy and pour in clean water purchased or pulled from a well yourself.

We build a steam generator ourselves: two proven methods

But for many, an electric steam generator for a bath is akin to steam from an open electric kettle. Those who consider themselves true connoisseurs of a real Russian bathhouse build a steam generator for a bathhouse with their own hands, without separating it from the stove. And the steam is really great, without any electricity!

So, the first thing to do is to increase the inertia of the steam room itself. The easiest way is to increase the mass of stones, and if no more than 60-80 kg fits into your stove, then you can make an additional trough from galvanized mesh. Place it directly on the stove. Next follow these instructions:

  • Step 1. Lay the bottom layer of stones.
  • Step 2: Install steam guns.
  • Step 3. Get rid of hard infrared radiation from metal surfaces - if possible, cover the stove with bricks. Cover the pipe with the economizer with magnesite sheets, after hanging them on the frame. To do this, make duralumin blanks and screw the sheets onto the frame so that there are gaps between them - for convection.
  • Step 4. Add more stones so that the path to the radiation is completely blocked.

This is what it looks like in the photo:

Here is another way to make a steam generator for a bath with your own hands:

  • Step 1: Get an empty gas propane tank- as large as you need.
  • Step 2. Release absolutely all the gas from the cylinder and carefully remove the brass valve.
  • Step 3: Wash the inside with detergent for dishes - until the smell of gas completely disappears.
  • Step 4. Now the balloon needs to be allowed to dry thoroughly.
  • Step 5. We install heating elements into the lower part of the cylinder (3 kW per 10 liters of water). Their fastening must be designed to withstand at least 6 atmospheres and not be screwed “tightly” - when the heating elements burn out, they will need to be replaced.
  • Step 6. At the top of the cylinder, place 4 tubes with special threads for automation devices. There is also a pressure relief valve and a water filling valve.
  • Step 7. On the side of the balloon, at a distance of 10 cm from the top point, weld a tube with a ball valve - it will open when the steam generator is filled with water. As soon as water flows from it, it means that the level has already reached its maximum.
  • Step 8. Now the brass valve of the cylinder needs to be modified: saw it in half. Remove the top rod and drill holes with a diameter of 15 mm. Next, cut the thread.
  • Step 9. Screw on the steam extraction ball valve.
  • Step 10. Purchase dial gauges to monitor pressure and temperature. Connect these devices in series so that the heating is turned off in case of any danger.
  • Step 11. Place the finished steam generator in a separate dry room near the steam room. To prevent condensation from forming, keep the length of the steam line to the steam room to a minimum.

And lastly: the process of installing steam generators in a bathhouse has serious safety requirements - as soon as the slightest deviation from the norm occurs, the device must automatically turn off. In general, in order to correctly install such equipment in a steam room, you don’t even have to call a specialist - you can handle it yourself, it’s only important to read the instructions correctly.

That's all! This home steam generator is enough to easily achieve high humidity in the steam room - and this is already the mode of a real Russian bath, with its soft steam and moisture-saturated air.
