Do-it-yourself fireplace in the country house. Making an open hearth Beautiful hearth in the country

Relaxation area equipped with summer cottage will become your favorite place to spend time near the fire with friends and family.

If you like to spend time in the country, then undoubtedly, on your suburban area must be equipped fire pit. We will tell you how to make a fire pit in your country house with your own hands in this article. We share our experience in arranging and decorating the hearth. In our master class we will tell you how to make a fire pit in your country house with your own hands.

In front of us is a ready-made recreation area with a fire pit. Before you begin, you will need the following building materials and tools.

Materials and tools for building a fire pit with your own hands:
  • Cement: 5-6 bags
  • Heat-resistant adhesive for stoves and fireplaces: 5-6 bags
  • Construction reinforcement 8-10 mm: 10 pieces of 60 cm each.
  • Sandstone: 750 kg
  • Fire brick: 60 pcs.
From the tool you will need:
  • Protective glasses
  • Watering hose
  • Wheelbarrow
  • Stone chisel
  • Hammer
  • Shovel
  • Gloves
  • Patience

Before you begin the main work, you must select right place for the fire. Try to place a recreation area with a fireplace away from residential buildings. Remember that smoke from the fire should not enter living areas. If neighbors live around your property, keep in mind that they may also be uncomfortable with the smoke. The most optimal solution will be an agreement with your neighbors on the future location for the fire.

Dimensions of the fire pit

Once a location has been selected, you need to determine the dimensions of the fire pit. In our master class, the fire pit in the country house (see example in the photo) has the following dimensions.

The hearth diameter is 1.5 m.
Height 45 cm.

The size of the fireplace can be changed as desired. Before starting construction, you can make a preliminary layout of the future hearth.

So, we chose a place for a fire on our summer cottage. We took measurements and made markings using a simple device. So that you can succeed smooth circle, we will use a homemade compass, and to make it you will need: a stick (you can use a pipe or fittings) and a rope.

We determine the center of the fire pit and drive in a stick to which a rope is tied. That's it, our compass is ready. Important! The size of the rope should be equal to the radius of the fireplace.

Advice! To mark the area for the hole, use aerosol can with paint, which can be tied to the end of a rope.

Having made the markings, we determined the place for the foundation of the hearth. Armed with a shovel, we begin to dig a hole. So that the fire pit will serve you more than once summer season, we recommend that you first determine the depth of soil freezing. Professional builders It is recommended to dig a hole for the foundation at least 90 cm deep. Also, you need to take into account climatic conditions and humidity.

After the foundation pit is ready, we proceed to reinforcing the foundation and pouring it with concrete.

The mixed concrete solution must be poured into the prepared hole; this must be done slowly, allowing the solution to fill all the cavities. When the work of pouring the foundation is completed, it is necessary to level the surface using wooden block or a special spatula. Make sure that concrete mixture lay down straight.

Wait completely dry solution. While the concrete mixture hardens, you can begin to sort the stone. Distribute it so that the large ones are in one pile, the flat ones in the other. Determine which stones you will use for the base of the fireplace.

Advice! Before you begin laying stones with glue, make a test laying of the first row. When selecting stones for the first row, give preference to a smooth and flat stone that does not have any irregularities or bends. Experienced craftsmen, before laying out the stones, they are processed with a special tool. Giving the base a flat shape.

When foundation dry, you can start laying the first row of stones, using the Tetris principle. Important! The stone blocks should touch each other as tightly as possible.

We admit that this is the most responsible and not rushing job that can take a large number of time. Advice - be patient, it is this stage of work that determines what a homemade hearth in a summer cottage will look like.

Mix the amount of mortar required for the job, laying out a new batch of stone. The main thing is to take your time and knead required amount solution, this will help you avoid unnecessary waste expensive material.

Advice! To avoid damage to the lawn and site, try to carry out all work in one place.

The task of laying the stone will become more difficult with the new level. Ideally, the top edge of the laid fireplace should be at the same level, because such a fireplace looks beautiful. Aligning the last row of stone is not easy. Use a mallet and hammer, and if you have a power masonry tool, the task of leveling the top edge of the fire pit will be much easier.

The photo above shows the penultimate row of the fire pit, inside of which fire-resistant bricks are laid, held together with a special mortar.

When laying stone and brick, craftsmen advise leaving small gaps for ventilation. Based on my own experience, you don’t have to do this, since the size of the fire pit already provides air access.

When the work of laying stone and brick is completed, the bottom of the pit must be filled with fine gravel. As you use it, it can be easily washed or replaced with a new one.

So, the fireplace you made with your own hands at the dacha is ready, and the next step will be to check it.

Place for a fire, fireplace in the country (photo)

As can be seen from the photo, the grass around the fireplace is heavily trampled. The next step you can arrange a space around the fire pit.

To do this, we take a homemade compass and determine the dimensions of the area around the fireplace. When the marking is done, take a shovel and remove the turf around the hole (see photo below).

Be sure to prepare the area where you will transfer the removed sod and soil in advance. Once the turf around the fire pit is removed, dredge the area to the required depth, but remember that the depth must be at least 8 cm.

Advice! When this stage of site arrangement is completed, we recommend laying geotextile material on the bottom. This will prevent soil and gravel from coming into contact. Don't forget about climatic conditions and rainy weather.

After the preparation of the site is completed, it must be covered with fine gravel. Try to pick up the right combination the color of the stone and the area to be filled with gravel chips.

If you don't want to use gravel, it can be any other material. For example: garden tiles, small river stones, paving stones, etc. Gravel stone is one of the budget options for arranging a fire pit and it can be replaced at any time with a more suitable one.

So, when all the work on building the fire pit and surrounding area is ready, you can invite your friends and have a party. Before doing this, do not forget to stack the firewood next to the fireplace so that you do not have to carry it from the far side of the site.

If you want to make your fire pit look cozier, plant around it. suitable plants and shrubs. Red, orange and yellow colors will look great.

As can be seen from the photo, the stones left over from the construction were put to use and a small path was laid out with them. Now you can sit comfortably by the fire and spend unforgettable evenings to the sound of firewood crackling in the hearth.

Symbol hearth and home A dacha can rightfully be called a fire pit. IN Lately the fireplace at the dacha has become not only a place where you can cook the next gastronomic masterpiece and have a great time free time for a pleasant evening with family and friends, it is also an original element of landscape design.

Above ground location of the fire pit in the country house

Before setting up a fire pit, you need to carefully consider the area where it will be located. The source should be located away from garden trees, country house and other outbuildings. The optimal distance to the house and buildings should be at least 3 meters, and at least 4 meters to the crowns of the nearest trees. Also, you should not design a place for a fire in a lowland or on a hill. It's better to choose a middle ground.

After the location for the dacha hearth has been determined, the site should be prepared: remove debris, plant roots, level the surface of the site and mark the location for the hearth itself. As a rule, the hearth is made in a round shape, with a diameter of about a meter. It is necessary to remove a layer of turf from the intended area. This is necessary so that later the entire site can be laid out with paving slabs or stones. In the center of the site, the location of the hearth itself is marked. To decorate the fire pit, you can use an iron rim. In the place where it is planned to install the metal rim, remove a small layer of soil, level the bottom of the resulting depression and install the rim.

If the structure has very thin walls, it will not be able to provide the necessary strength during operation. Therefore, along the entire area of the outer wall they lay out concrete blocks or stones in several rows. Paving slabs or granite cobblestones are also suitable for this. For masonry it is better to use a special masonry mortar. For laying natural stone, clay mortar is more suitable.

To prevent the fire pit from turning into a pond after heavy rain, it is necessary to cut out a roof for it. A suitable cut can be used as material sheet metal.

You can also create a place for a fire in your dacha using a small dug pit. The depth of the dug pit should be approximately 30-40cm. The bottom of the dug pit is covered with a layer of fine gravel. In order for the hearth to last longer, the inside of the pit must be surrounded with a piece of sheet metal. The ring can also be built using separate blocks. The first layer of blocks is laid on gravel. Correct installation is checked building level. All irregularities are eliminated using rubber mallet. A special glue for laying hearths and fireplaces is applied to the upper surface of the first row, then the second row of blocks can be laid. Ready design covered with fine gravel and decorated top part hearth, matching the decor of the landscape design, stone.

Design of the area near the fireplace

In order to decorate the area near the fireplace, you can use pebbles, gravel or tiles for garden paths. If you expand the area near the fireplace, you will get an excellent area for a good rest. An interesting option are flat slabs wrong geometric shape, which are laid out in a fancy pattern. These wide slabs can easily accommodate chairs, benches, or other various garden furniture. Ideal option To create a place for a fire in the country house, there will be a circular bench with backs. To give such a playground comfort and coziness, the playground can be decorated with rugs and placed on the bench decorative pillows and blankets.

The same material that was used to decorate the hearth can be used to make a supporting wall; it will also serve as a backrest for the bench. In order to avoid having to go far for firewood, a special firewood shed is installed next to the fireplace, which is decorated in the same style as the hearth.

You can put it at the fire pit garden path, along which to install small Street lights. This will make the area cozy in evening time and will create a special romantic atmosphere.

Often the area around the fire is made in the shape of the sun, and improvised sun rays are painted on the lining.
It would be interesting to look at a summer cottage with a hearth made in the form of a lunar crater or fireplace, next to which you can install a small figurine of a guardian cricket.

Interesting idea designing a fire pit in the country house

Decorating a place near a fire in the country is not so difficult. The main conditions for work are the availability of all necessary building materials, clear calculations, free time, imagination and a little creativity.

Fireplace in the country: what will we sit on?

Place by the fire: what should we sit on?

You have a place for a fire, but what next? Should I stand and watch it burn? No matter how it is, you did it in order to cook barbecue, fry bread, bake potatoes and just relax in the evening, and doing this while sitting is clearly more convenient than standing. How to arrange a place to sit around a fire and what can be used for this?

To begin with, you can take any chairs that can be used outdoors. These can be either simple camp chairs with which you go into the forest, or a wooden or metal country chair. Street furniture- the same chairs or large benches on which it is so comfortable to sit together. Rattan seats are also suitable.

Simple chairs to sit near the fire on the site

If you are a fan of the classics, why not build the usual pentagon from logs, as is often done in the forest? But here you can sand the logs and even varnish them and even attach a backrest to make it more comfortable to sit on.

A classic pentagon made of logs around a fireplace in a country house

AND stationary option- you can make seats around the fireplace in your summer cottage with your own hands from stone - from brick or any other stones that you have at your disposal. Tip: lay out the benches not in a square, but in a semicircle, as this looks more aesthetically attractive. And in order to sit softly and not cold, place sofa cushions on the seat itself and attach it to the back, if you have one there.

Do-it-yourself brick fireplace in your dacha

And finally, two ways to make a fireplace in your summer cottage with your own hands. To begin with, the most popular option for a fire pit is made of bricks. What do we need? bricks and cement.

There are several ways to build a fire pit out of bricks. The first option is the way a house is built, that is, stacking bricks one next to the other, shifting each half a brick next row- just lay out the walls of the fire pit required height. Some build directly from the ground, some first dig a hole in the ground, and as a result the fire pit is sunk into the ground. In this case, it can be flush with the ground, here it is better to lay out additional stones or tiles around the area at least a meter in diameter, or with the walls up - in this case the coals will not fall down. But here it is worth providing holes for air intake in the fire.

We build a fire house from bricks

The second way is to lay the bricks in a circle, installing them vertically or horizontally. If you want to make a low fireplace, one row of bricks laid out in a circle with vertical installation. If you want to make a large round hearth, you need to lay the bricks horizontally and don’t forget about the holes through which air will enter the fire - in this case it will burn much better.

Do-it-yourself brick fireplace in your dacha

You can also show your imagination and create some unusual hearth, not round or square, but absolutely not symmetrical in shape. Moreover, here you can use not only bricks, but also any other stones - best natural, unprocessed.

Let's do non-standard place for a fire on the site

Hearth at the dacha under a cauldron

If you like to cook something in a cauldron over a fire, for example, real pilaf, vegetable stew or meat, then before you start building the hearth, you need to figure out how to then put the cauldron on it. The first option is to make a small fireplace out of stones, on which a large cauldron can be placed on top. If you need a larger place for the fire, make metal structure, which can be placed in the fire, and a cauldron can be placed on top of it. Or you can make a hearth from an old car rim. How to do this - read below, and the cauldron will stand on top without any problems.

Fire pit: barbecue made from an old car rim

If you don't want to lay bricks, you can use a simple and proven method to make a fire pit yourself, which I already talked about before - use an old car disk(stamping, not casting!). It's perfect for this - round form, high walls, air intake holes and easy installation. You can either bury it in the ground, making a fire pit flush with the ground, or place it and cover it with bricks on top to give it a more attractive look.

By the way, from the same disk you can make not only a hearth, but also a barbecue - on steel legs, to make it more convenient to keep an eye on the kebabs being prepared, a grill (by adding a grate on top the right size), barbecue and much more.

And if, instead of a car disk, you find some other metal bowl or other container in your garage or basement, you can easily use it to make a fireplace in your summer cottage. By the way, an old steel basin will also work for this - who else still has one of these from Soviet times?

Fireplace: hearth in the country house photo ideas

So, we figured out how to make a fireplace with our own hands, what materials to use for this, how to arrange the area around it and what seats are suitable for such a relaxation. Let's now look at the photo - how other people did it, in order to borrow from there some of the ideas we liked best, which are worth implementing on your own site.

A fireplace can rightfully be called a symbol of a home in a country house. Design of the area near the fireplace

In order to decorate the area near the fireplace, you can use pebbles, gravel or tiles for garden paths. If you expand the area near the fireplace, you will get an excellent area for a good rest. That is a symbol of home warmth and comfort- this is, of course, a hearth and fire in it. The music of crackling logs sets the mood for relaxation and harmony, the bewitching dance of flames relaxes and creates an atmosphere of warmth and safety. How great it is to watch the whimsical play of glare and colors while sitting by a nice fire pit in the country. Anyone would want to enjoy this spectacle. The task is quite accessible and doable: you can arrange perfect place for a family holiday on your own site, the central place of which will be occupied by a fire pit.

Design options

Fire pit in landscape design - this is one of the most popular design ideas. A well-planned recreation area will delight you and your loved ones for many years.

Ideally, the recreation area should be integrated into the landscape of your site so that during the day street hearth did not act as an active accent, but with the onset of darkness it was just the opposite. At night, all attention should deservedly be drawn to your hearth; it should beckon like a magnet and attract you to sit closer. To create a comfortable and cozy atmosphere, garden furniture or seats are arranged around the hearth. For a fire pit, you can choose any size and shape you like, the main thing is that this idea is harmoniously combined with the surroundings. We can only recommend one thing - the round shape of the fire pit easily fits into any style, is easy to maintain and access. The round hearth is one of the most common.

You can also choose the finish at your discretion and design the fire bowl. You can lay tiles around the hearth, or you can fill it with gravel and lay decorative stone. The choice of finish depends entirely on general style and design directions.

If space allows, you can use the idea of a multi-level, more complex site. Part of the top layer of soil is removed and leveled.

Look good and very functional fire pits, which seem to be recessed into the depths. The big advantage of this option is that they can easily be decorated in any style by using different finishes. One condition is important - do not deepen the fire pit very much, since the combustion process requires an influx of oxygen. To improve natural air circulation in a recessed fireplace, logs are stacked in the form of a hut.

A fireplace in a dacha in the landscape should not only be decorative decoration, but also successfully fulfill its intended purpose. It is necessary to clearly determine the place for the fire in the country house. Let's consider several options for solving this problem. You can bring your own ideas to life, making them work and effective.

DIY outdoor fire pit - this is the pride of the owners, the envy of neighbors and a great place to relax with family and friends. In order to begin work, you need to find out what a street fire is. Essentially, this is a depression made in the ground or a structure on its surface. Important: the strength of the material used to make the fireplace will ensure long-term heat retention and maintain the shape of the fireplace for many years.

We decide on the choice of location. Make sure that there are no trees with spreading crowns near the fire pit. The place should not be located close to the house or any buildings with economic purposes. You should not choose a place on a hill, but also in a low place It’s also not worth placing a fireplace. The best option regarding the choice of location will be good platform, visible and level. For a fireplace in the country, it is better to choose a traditional and conservative shape of a circle, the diameter of which will be about one meter. You can use an unnecessary metal rim - this is an outline; in the future it will simply be decorated. Let us consider the organization of such a fireplace step by step and in more detail.

Prepared and cleaned the area, then removed upper layer soil and level it. After this, we install the rim and mount the walls. Thin walls of the fireplace may not withstand the load, so their thickness should be at least fifteen centimeters. Concerning decorative look fire pits, then the choice is yours. Natural or artificial stone can be used. Even paving slabs or granite cobblestones will do. To work with concrete blocks or bricks, it is advisable to use only masonry mortar, but natural stones It is better to fasten it with clay and sand. There is also a certain type of adhesive for fireplaces and stoves - it can be used for finishing works bowls. It’s a good idea to provide some backfill around the fireplace. This will help make the structure easier to maintain and will look much more attractive. The backfill can be replaced with paving slabs or basalt. You can choose what you like. To protect your fireplace bowl from rainwater getting into it, you need to take care of the lid. Otherwise, the hearth may become a pond. The lid can be made of metal or wood.

Hearth buried in the soil

A hole of about 40 centimeters is dug. Gravel is poured into the bottom of the resulting depression - this is necessary in order to create a cushion; its thickness should be approximately 15 centimeters. In order to give the structure strength and durability, it is necessary to strengthen inner walls of the recess. Sheet iron can be used. Cut off the pieces required size and secure it in the shape of a ring. You can also use concrete blocks, laying them out in a circle. This procedure is repeated until the desired height of the structure is reached. Pieces of sheet metal are installed inside the circle, and the space between the blocks and the iron is filled with sand and clay.

Hearth from an old metal barrel

Creative and very economical option etc. If there is a barrel on the site that has become leaky and can no longer be used for its intended purpose, then do not rush to say goodbye to it. The barrel is cut to the required height, installed on a leveled area and decorated with stones, tiles, cobblestones - it’s at your discretion. A DIY fire bowl will delight you and your loved ones; it’s a nice place to host home gatherings on cool evenings.

Rest area around the fire

For such purposes, a variety of materials are suitable, there are a lot of options. You can backfill with gravel - this is one of the simplest ways. It can be laid out with pebbles, tiles or basalt. They will look most attractive and aesthetically pleasing natural materials. One option is laying small slabs irregular shape, in the seams of which the lawn will be visible. The main thing is one thing - the area around the fireplace must be level and everything must be arranged and covered. This will make it convenient to install garden furniture, circular benches or just chairs.

An additional and functional element will be the creation of a retaining wall behind the fire pit. It can be done by adhering to the same style with the hearth. In addition, you can use the retaining wall for landscaping - do it there beautiful flower bed.

It’s impossible to imagine a cozy house outside the city without barbecues or intimate gatherings with friends and relatives around a live fire. This is both relaxation and a form of unity with nature. It is difficult to build a fireplace indoors, but building a fire pit in a dacha outside is not so difficult. It is enough to have primary skills in construction to make it not only convenient in practice, but also beautiful.

Cozy place for a fire

Having failed to purchase a plot for country house or just having built it, the happy owners are thinking about where to set up a fire pit in the country so that it is beautiful, with a conveniently equipped seating area around it, and at the same time meets the rules fire safety.

The dacha hearth is actually the heart of the house, where in the evening people gather to admire the sparks of the fire and sing songs over a glass of wine, and during the day they grill kebabs and infuse delicious tea, so you need to choose a place for it very carefully, especially since it will be difficult to redo it later.

Preparation and first contours

You can make a fire pit at the dacha, or by plunging it deep into the ground, which is more difficult option both in finishing and in ensuring the flow of oxygen, or by creating above ground structure. There are a lot of options, but first of all you need to make sure that the trees and the house, as well as any buildings, are at least 4-5 meters from the outer boundaries of the fire.

You cannot place it on a hill or below the level of the garden and house; it is best to choose a site in the middle of the site or be guided by the golden ratio rule - two-thirds from the main entrance. You also need to consider which side of the site the wind blows most often, and how close the lounge furniture will be to the fire. It is best to place it 70−90 cm from the outer circle of the hearth. Necessary materials:

  • shovel and spatula;
  • gravel, concrete pouring, cement;
