What style of furniture is in fashion now? Design trends: what's in and what's out of interior fashion. Interior design of a white kitchen with an island in a classic style

Fashion is an extremely relative concept, refracted in the focus of each person’s personal perception. What is fashionable for one is bad taste for another. But there are things that are definitely outdated and need to be replaced. The RIA Real Estate website found out which “fashionable” trends in apartment design it’s time to forget about and what to choose as an alternative.

  • Plasterboard and glossy stretch ceilings "Complex figured multi-level ceilings made of plasterboard in combination with glossy stretch ceilings - no, no, no! This is a really sore subject, often when discussing wishes, customers tell me for some reason exactly about them - we saw them among acquaintances, friends, or in pictures and we want it exactly that way, thereby immediately limiting possible options design,” complains Olga Chainikova, head of the “25th Floor” design studio. These are like rhinestones on a beautiful, laconic coat - a detail that can ruin the entire design. On top of everything else, in our standard panel houses without that low height ceilings, which needs to be visually increased, but not lowered in any way, the agency’s interlocutor emphasizes. “Fortunately, in most cases I manage to discourage bad taste from customers and not ruin the apartment,” she rejoices. Ceilings must be level, unless otherwise required by the tactical and technical characteristics of the object. They can be decorated beautifully ceiling cornices, moldings and rosettes, which will always look relevant, simple and stylish, the designer points out.

  • All furniture from one collection Against glossy stretch ceiling Designer and head of the design bureau Natalya Naumova also comes out with a scattering of spotlights. She points out that Spotlights need to be done concisely, only where they are really needed. The designer also recommends not to be afraid of “mismatched furniture.” “All the furniture in an apartment is from the same collection – it’s bad taste. It’s like wearing shoes and a handbag from the same collection and from the same designer,” says Naumova. Although, of course, you don’t just need to buy everything. Items should be united either by a style, say, Scandinavian, or color scheme as in the photo.

  • Copies of paintings by famous artists Naumova also protests against copies or reproductions of paintings by famous artists in the interior. “It’s better to buy a painting by a little-known master, but a real original one, or use a photograph,” she believes. By the way, abstract paintings will be an excellent decorative accent in the interior.

  • Everything is so “beige” Stop making the whole apartment “beige”, and also scrupulously select all the metal in the house (handles, faucets, chandeliers) in the same color, Naumova insists. Now it's fashionable to combine different metals, she points out. Well, the designer advises lovers of calm shades to take a closer look at other calm color variations, and also not to be afraid bright accents.

  • Artificial materials in decoration It is bad form to use artificial materials in decoration or textile decoration. “This always makes the interior lifeless, glossy and vulgar,” explains Naumova. It’s better to spend money on natural stone or wood. Let it be a small section of the wall, but it will be completely natural.

  • Figured walls made of plasterboard “Figured walls made of plasterboard or arches – such manifestations are more bad manners than a design highlight,” interior designer Nadezhda Lascu is convinced. Drywall is not the only material with which you can model space. Wood, glass, even brick are much more interesting and stylish solutions.

  • Metal joining thresholds And here are the metal thresholds at the joints flooring materials, according to the agency’s interlocutor, this is generally an attempt to hide poor-quality cutting and joining of the material or poor-quality screed work. "A modern alternative and solution to such joints is a cork expansion joint. It looks neat, stylish and emphasizes high quality works," says Lascu.

  • Lone Chandelier A lone overhead light source may not provide enough light - usually a rather dim and unsuitable scenario for the room. If possible, lighting should be correctly distributed throughout the entire volume, says the head of the design studio." Cozy apartment"Natalia Preobrazhenskaya. "Be sure to use all levels of lighting: additional sources lights, sconces, floor, table lamps and even just candles, correctly distributed in volume, will invariably decorate your life,” she says.

  • Lambrequins and heavy fabrics on the windows “It’s time to get rid of massive heavy curtains in dirty brown tones, as well as any other excessively intrusive structures on the windows. No fashion, trend or style can justify multi-layered heavy disgrace!” - Preobrazhenskaya insists. Nowadays, you can choose organic textiles to suit any style in such a way as to decorate the space, make it lively and cozy. Textiles on windows should be “the simpler, the better.”

  • Decorative plaster Decorative plaster is extremely rare, and even then in a very well-developed and appropriate style, in the hands of a master of the highest class it can sometimes (the phrase “sometimes can” is the key) look organic, says the head of the “Cozy Apartment” studio. But this is extremely rare. It's better to replace it good wallpaper with the right texture, she recommends.

  • But the art director of the architectural bureau "Victory of Design" Stepan Bugaev urges apartment owners, if possible, to abandon the furniture walls in the living room, opposite which there is a sofa. "A good alternative to this would be to plan for lighter and mobile systems, With open shelves And closed parts, which will look more interesting and original. Perhaps some part will indeed remain in the form of a cabinet, but it will be supplemented with shelves and storage systems,” he explains.

  • Nowadays, working from home has become the norm. Many people who work at home place furniture intended for the office in the apartment - office chair, computer desk with shelves. “This phenomenon has already outlived its usefulness,” Bugaev is sure. An exception may be a separate room in a large apartment, where you can set up a full-fledged office. If you still decide to organize an office in small apartment, you need to fit it into the interior as much as possible, and not divide the space into an office area and a living area. "The interior of the office should match the interior of the apartment. We choose a light table for a laptop and comfortable armchair, in no case on wheels - they scratch the floor and don’t look particularly elegant,” the agency’s interlocutor emphasizes.

  • Plasterboard and glossy stretch ceilings “Complex figured multi-level plasterboard ceilings in combination with glossy stretch ceilings - no, no, no! When undertaking renovation or decoration of a house or apartment, most often we rely not only on our own preferences, but also on fashion trends. Perhaps not intentionally - subconsciously. In this article Alina Igoshina will list design techniques that are no longer relevant or will soon lose their edge, and tell you what should be taken into account when creating an interior, because it is done for years.

Alina Igoshina, head and member of the Union of Designers of Russia

I am not suggesting that we completely abandon the currently popular solutions. After all, for a private interior, full compliance with fashion trends is not so important. The main thing is that it fully corresponds to your ideas about beauty and comfort. But it probably makes sense to think about whether this is what you really want in your home, or are you following trends? If you understand that you just want to pay tribute to fashion, consider alternative solutions.

Now let’s look in detail at what is no longer fashionable, what will soon go out of fashion, and what is best used with caution.

Multi-level plasterboard ceilings as interior decoration

Use them for technical purposes: distributing ventilation and other communications, organizing a structure for embedding, refining strange constructive solutions"from the developer." Such solutions are appropriate in moderation. Multi-level ceilings can be carefully played out and fit into any style, but in themselves in most cases they do not have artistic value.

The relevance of such a decision was greatly exaggerated, and at a certain period the fascination with them was widespread. On this moment The fashion for multi-level ceilings “for beauty” has passed. If they are not technically necessary, think carefully about whether you need them.

Pictures on the ceiling

If you are decorating the interior in a style in which ceiling painting is an integral part, then, of course, you shouldn’t give it up. But you should first make sure that the interior design in its scale corresponds to the height of the ceilings and the area of the room.

Thematic paintings in children's rooms that extend from the walls to the ceiling can look good. Also, in a contrasting modern interior, if you are looking for radical, catchy solutions, some kind of geometric composition may appear on the ceiling or with the transition from wall to ceiling.

I am rarely categorical, but in this case I can definitely advise: refuse a stretch ceiling with photographs of flowers, fruits and butterflies printed on it. About 10 years ago, such a solution was possible and appropriate, and not in rooms such as a living room, kitchen or adult bedroom. At the moment, using such decor is in bad taste.

Self-leveling floors with patterns

Self-leveling floor is great technical coating for flooring in a warehouse, garage or parking lot, trading floor. The use of such a coating in a residential interior is possible if we are talking about a monochromatic and not too glossy option. The finishing is suitable if the task is to choose the most laconic flooring material. Also, many consider the finish to be quite easy to clean, due to the lack of seams. And such a floor can be repainted with special paint in any color. But glossy floors, especially those with pictures, should be treated with caution, or better yet, abandoned altogether.

Self-leveling floors with flowers, curls, photographs of fruits, the seabed, animals - have never been an example of good taste. And today they are absolutely morally outdated.

You can take a risk and make self-leveling floors with patterns that are relevant now, for example, geometric ones. But even these will lose their relevance in a few years. But the floors will remain. Expensive and extremely difficult to dismantle.

Advice: when checking out modern interior, leave active patterns and designs for things that are easy to replace: decorative pillows, curtains, wallpaper. If the renovation is high-quality and thorough, its base will look quite fresh for about 10 years. During this time, trends in decor, prints and patterns are emerging before our eyes. modern style will change many times.

Plastic furniture

Such furniture was fashionable in the West 50 years ago: new material became available and was used everywhere. Much like the bright synthetic clothing with retro prints that mark the era, plastic furniture is more fun vintage with a slight mothball scent than a fashionable novelty.

The craving of our fellow citizens, including designers, for plastic chairs can be explained. Basically, replicas (fakes) of works by famous designers are used: they are cheap, but at the same time they differ little from original furniture, since the materials and production technologies are quite simple. The furniture design is bright and memorable.

Use such furniture with great care. It is not modern. This is a bright accent in the style of the 60s, not modern trend. If you do not plan to add a touch of disco style to your interior, it is better to leave this furniture for establishments Catering and beauty salons.

Headsets

At the moment, the word “headset” sounds rather scary. Do not try to purchase a set of furniture from one collection - choose matching furniture. It shouldn't be the same. In one interior you can place furniture of different shades, colors and textures, and furniture from different historical eras and styles. The main thing is to find that “red thread” that will logically connect the interior and make it harmonious.
The same goes for lamps and finishing materials, and, in particular, textile design. Creating fashionable interior mix and experiment!

Synthetic materials

Materials that look like 100% synthetic, and are so, are best minimized. ABOUT plastic furniture I said separately. I also want to draw the readers’ attention to organza, vinyl wallpapers, vinyl glossy stretch ceilings - all this looks not only unfashionable, but to a certain extent even vulgar.

There are almost no completely natural materials at the moment. Almost everything that is used in interior design undergoes repeated processing. For good, high-quality and technically competently manufactured material, such processing is only beneficial. Due to this, the materials acquire the necessary additional properties, improving appearance, wear resistance increases.

In addition, making a modern interior entirely from materials of exclusively natural origin is extremely problematic, since it must meet current safety and comfort standards.

Advice: Do not chase the “ECO” prefix when choosing materials. Often this is just a marketing ploy. Strive to choose high-quality and wear-resistant materials that look as natural and sound as possible.

Conservative color solutions

The beige-brown color scheme is very common. Natural colors are comfortable for most of us. The popularity of such color schemes can also be explained by the fact that we live in a rather harsh climate. Many people need compensation for the lack of heat for 8-9 months a year. I am writing this article in April, and there is a snowstorm outside the window - I perfectly understand the desire of the majority to create a warm atmosphere at home.

But! In addition to beige and brown, there are many others warm colors. There are also complex shades, halftones, and neat bright accents. Is this what you really always dreamed of? beige-brown interior? Or simply didn’t consider other options? Be especially careful with brown in a room for a very small child. Small children do not perceive the color brown. That's why they don't like him.

Decor and furniture inspired by life hacks

A coffee table made from a pallet, a key holder made from hexagonal plywood and other decor made from something that would be a pity to throw away; the repairs consisted of repainting a crooked damaged wall in fashionable color— leave these decorative techniques for student dorms, hipster art spaces and casual nightlife spots.

To design a residential family interior Such solutions have never been practical; at the moment they are already very hackneyed and have lost their stylistic relevance.

Tested by time and the experience of several generations of designers and decorators: the more difficult the economic situation and social conditions in general, the more relevant it becomes when designing a new interior to focus on quality, the greater the desire to create an atmosphere of well-being in the home environment. Now our situation is not as bad as in America in the thirties during the heyday of Art Deco, but also not so cloudless that we decorate the house with garbage.

Decorative plaster is extremely rare, and even then in a very well-developed and appropriate style, in the hands of a master of the highest class, it can sometimes (the phrase “sometimes can” is the key) look organic, says the head of the Cozy Apartment studio. But this is extremely rare. It's better to replace it with good wallpaper with the right texture, she recommends.

The interior is not only about creating a comfortable space, but also an opportunity to bring your ideas to life and demonstrate your style preferences. In 2017-2018 stylish interior must be discreet and as close to nature as possible.

Simple forms, natural materials, restraint in design - these are the fundamental interior trends.

Important! Natural stone or high-quality imitation is in fashion. You can use noble rocks (onyx, marble, agate, granite), as well as pebbles and sandstone. A budget alternative is good porcelain tiles.

Rough is still in fashion brickwork And concrete surfaces. Wooden surfaces It’s better not to paint it again; the varnish coating should emphasize the natural texture.

Widely used Cork tree, vine, bamboo - especially if the choice fell on an ethnic style.

The second most popular material is metal. It can be used not only in furniture elements, but also as moldings, decorative inserts V flooring, for edging panels. You can give the interior different notes. Nickel, chrome, steel will make the room more austere; they reflect light well and are cool shades. Copper, bronze and gilding create a feeling of warmth and luxury.

What styles will be in fashion?

The most current trends the interior will become:

  • Eclectic, boho.
  • Scandinavian style.
  • High tech.
  • Contemporary.
  • Loft.
  • Minimalism.

Vintage doesn’t lose its position either, but it’s best to make an interesting combination. For example, combine vintage with modern or art deco. The experiment promises to be interesting.

Trending colors 2018

Researchers from the Pantone Institute have already presented the trending colors of 2018. The most fashionable shade will be red-brown. It will be appropriate for the background, and for furniture and accessories. Of course, the position of gold and copper elements will be strengthened - they harmonize perfectly with red colors.

Fashionable palettes also include orange-yellow (the color of curry or cumin), olive, linen, gray, blueberry, and green.

TOP 5 interior trends 2018

Emphasized graphics

Geometry is back in fashion! Only now it is not present on furniture fabrics or accessories, but as the main background! The new collections feature ceramic tile, parquet, laminate, carpet with unusual textures. Multi-colored polygons, circles, zigzags and other shapes cannot fail to attract attention! It is worth noting that the background of the walls should be made as calm as possible.

Watercolor motifs

Ideal for a bedroom or nursery. Calm pastel shades, slight blurring of boundaries, unclear shapes and silhouettes. Painted imitations of materials are also in demand. Watercolor harmonizes perfectly with wicker and wooden furniture.

Floral print and butterflies

Natural motifs fit perfectly with the theme of naturalness. Indispensable for country and contemporary style. Pairs well with matte and metallic surfaces. They help visually adjust the room.

Greenery

In 2018, you can safely use hanging plants and vertical gardening for room decoration. Palm trees in tubs, wallpaper with a picture of a jungle, a mosaic with tropical flowers - a little exotic would not hurt. Green tint- trend for next year. It can be combined not only with beige, yellow and brown, but also with various shades of blue, gray, and orange.

For creating color accents you can use multicolor decorative elements. Please note that furniture should be as simple and concise as possible. What you shouldn't skimp on is household appliances and accessories.

Variety of textures

Many people prefer built-in furniture. This practical solution, but it needs some flavor. Trend 2018 - maximum variety. A sofa with velvet upholstery will look great next to a wicker chair, and a bedside table with monograms will look great next to a bed with a deliberately rough headboard. Things from one set look boring and monotonous, they need to be mixed!

TOP 5 antitrends 2018

1. Multi-tiered ceilings. At one time they were very fashionable, but now complex figures with a bunch of lamps are just unnecessary cluttering of space. You can decorate the ceiling with wooden planks, massive beams, metal elements, or simply be content with a flat surface.

2. Elements of antiquity. Columns, stucco moldings, bas-reliefs, and statues are temporarily leaving the fashion catwalk. They need space and an appropriate environment. The same can be said about stained glass windows. It’s rare to find an apartment where such a decision doesn’t seem ridiculous. Eco-design and minimalism are trending.

3. Same type of furniture. sofa group, bedroom set should not look like the picture in the furniture manufacturer's catalogue. There is nothing individual about them. Upholstery of different textures, different shapes and styles of objects will give the interior a special charm.

4. Abundance of everything. canopies, chic furniture, huge crystal chandeliers once amazed the imagination and were considered a shortage. Now they just clutter up the space. Matte textures are trending. Gloss adds extra pathos. By the way, it is better to arrange furniture in islands rather than along the walls.

5. Lack of accents. A minimalist interior should not be faceless. Inexperienced designers paint a room in one color and proudly call the interior “monochrome.” Although in practice it turns out to be a faceless something. There must be accents! Bright or dim, but the eye needs to cling to something. In 2018, these are geometric and floral prints, color mixing and rich wall surfaces. To help -

It is important not just to follow trends, but also to listen to your own intuition. After all, you create an interior for your own comfort! And fashion trends can be applied selectively!
