Preparation and installation options

At the preparatory stage, the size of the bed and the place for placing the LED strips and are calculated. To do this, you will have to remove the mattress, find the optimal place for mounting the LED strip so that its light is directed downward, and measure the length of all segments that will be located along the perimeter of the structure. Then you need to select the type of light emitting chips:

• SMD 3528 IP20 with a brightness of 420 lumens, costing about 60 rubles / m;
• RGBW-SMD 5060 IP33 with a brightness of 2000 lumens, costing about 200 rubles / m + RGBW controller;
• or another intermediate option.

After that, you need to purchase an LED strip of the same length. What is the cost of a profile? Firstly, the LED strip will adhere well to the clean and smooth surface of the profile, and secondly, it will serve as a radiator, since rather powerful LED strips are not recommended to be operated without additional heat sink. Often, the load-bearing part of modern double beds is made of fibreboard (MDF) or wood, which have an extremely low thermal conductivity. But even if the bed frame is made of steel, it is not advisable to glue the LED segments to it. Only inside the aluminum profile, the LED strip will be reliably protected from any mechanical impact, such as:

• vacuum cleaner tubes during cleaning;
• children's curious hands;
• teeth and paws of pets.

You can use a cheaper option - a plastic cable channel. It costs an order of magnitude less and is sold in every hardware store. That's just to make a very bright and even more so RGB backlighting of the bed will no longer be possible. Plastic will not be able to dissipate heat from emitting crystals for a long time and effectively, which will lead to their degradation within the first year of operation. For installation in a cable duct, LED strip without silicone coating, type SMD 3528, with a density of elements of 30, 60 or 120 pcs / m of any glow color, is suitable.

At the last stage of the preparatory work, you need to:

• cut the LED strip and profile into pieces of the required length;
• degrease the inner surface of the profile for reliable adhesion to LED segments;
• prepare connecting wires and, if desired, a switch.

The electrical circuit of the backlit bed is extremely simple and consists of only 2 key elements: a power supply and an LED strip. If the use of RGB or RGBW tape is used, then the scheme is complemented by an RGB or RGBW controller. Below is a lighting scheme using a multicolor LED strip.

Assembling and connecting the bed light

Depending on the type of LED strip and the location of the power source, a cable of the appropriate length and number of wires is selected. For safety reasons, as well as to ensure sufficient load capacity, it is better to use a double-insulated stranded copper cable with a cross section of 1.0 mm 2. It is flexible, tins well and calmly (without overheating) passes current up to 6 A.

It is highly undesirable to use a twisted pair cable as a power supply wire for the bed illumination. The cross-section of one core is approximately 0.2 mm 2, which means that it can pass no more than 1.5 A, and then with a gradual melting of the insulation from overheating. So you need a more reliable option to connect powerful RGBW tapes.

For the electrical connection of individual sections of the backlight located around the perimeter of the bed, you can use special connectors with existing wires. This method will speed up the assembly process and will allow you to quickly disassemble the structure in the future. If this method is unacceptable, then all sections will have to be soldered together with separate wires.

Having all the necessary parts of the LED lighting for the bed, you can start assembling in the following sequence:

• glue the LED strip in the profile;
• solder the wires observing the polarity or fasten them with connectors;
• connect the power supply and make a test switch on;
• fill the place of soldering inside the profile with hot melt glue;
• Attach the ready-made lighting to the base using standard latches, screws or ties, depending on the type of bed.

For a greater light effect, one of the 4 LED segments is attached behind the headboard of the double bed, directing the light flux upward. The exposed live parts of the RGB controller, power supply and wires are reliably insulated to prevent fire and electric shock.

A bed with LED backlighting will be much more functional if a wi-fi module is built into the controller. In this embodiment, the operation of the backlight can be controlled from a smartphone, easily changing the brightness and color. In addition, the program allows you to set the time for turning on / off the bed light, set an alarm clock with a gradual increase in brightness and use other useful functions.

Let's first figure out what kind of backlight you bought?

If it was bought in ours, then everything will be clear to you, because we will analyze the installation using its example.
If in another store - then just look at the principle and apply it to your copy.
Immediately, we note that the standard illumination of the bottom of the bed from the Belmarco plant has only one glow color (warm white). It is not possible to select other colors as they use a single color LED strip and not an RGB strip. They do not have a remote control, they are equipped with a standard on / off button. Therefore, information about the settings of the remote control modes will not be relevant for people who have bought such a backlight.

So let's get started ...

1) Check the backlight for functionality.

The very first thing to do is to check that the purchased backlight works. To do this, connect all the elements, see if the battery is inserted into the remote control (if you have one) and connect to the network. Make sure it turns on and off, that all the LEDs on the tape are on. We check all our backlights for operability before selling, so there shouldn't be any problems with them. If you bought it elsewhere and it did not work during the test launch, it is better to return it to the seller immediately.

2) Assemble the bed frame of the machine

Next, you need to assemble the car bed frame, so it will be much more convenient to install the backlight.
- attach blocks on the side of the bed on which the lamellas will lie under the mattress
- connect the sides with the front of the bed and the back

3) Determine where the outlet is closer

Now think about which side you would like to bring out the backlight power wire. If the outlet is closer to the front of the bed, you will need to start gluing the LED strip from the front. If the socket is closer to the back, then we will start gluing the tape with it.

4) The lighting on the bed is glued on the side

The next important point. The LED strip is glued to the side of the crib, under wooden blocks so that the light from it does not go down, as real motorists are used to, but to the side, to the opposite side of the car. Therefore, it can be glued both on the near side and on the far side. We recommend gluing to the back, i.e. the one near the wall. In this case, there will be more light from it in the room, so it will perform better as a night light. In addition, our backlights have the ability to adjust the brightness, so you can always choose the optimal glow level. The manufacturer "Belmarco" advises to glue on the neighbor, so that the room is not very light at night, because they do not have any brightness controls.

5) Securely fix the backlight control section

Before the start of the tape itself, which is directly glued to the bed, there is a piece of wire in white thermal insulation of about 20-30 cm. It contains a control unit that is responsible for adjusting and working with the remote control. To avoid damaging this unit, we recommend that you secure it with two cable clips to the front or back of the bed, nailing them carefully with a hammer. This will also help to prevent the tape from ripping off the bed if children accidentally or intentionally pull on the edge of the wire or the backlight power supply.

6) Gently glue the backlight to one side of the car bed

You can start installing the backlight just by nailing this piece of wire. But as practice has shown, it is more convenient to first glue some part of the backlight, and then nail the initial piece. The LED strip is glued quite easily. Gradually tear off the protective film from it and gradually, pressing it to the base, glue it along the entire length. If the edge of the tape remains, wind it up and glue it to the back of the bed (or to the front, if you started gluing from the back).

If suddenly it does not respond to pressing, check if the power supply is plugged into the outlet. If everything is in order with the power supply, see if the small LED located on the remote comes on. If it does not respond to pressing, check if you inserted the battery correctly into the remote control and if it is there at all. If you have been using the backlight for a long time and the LED has become dim, you should replace the battery in the remote control. You can buy it at a computer store, in a watchmaker's shop, or in other stores. Its name is CR2025. Don't go for cheap batteries, the best quality ones currently on sale are GP and Sony.

Color + and Color - buttons

With these buttons we change the backlight color. There are about 20 colors available.

Bright + and Bright - buttons

They are used to adjust the brightness of the backlight. In some models of remote controls, the brightness is stepped - it is easier to adjust it by frequent pressing of these buttons. In other models of remote controls, the brightness is smooth, so it is better to press and hold this button until the required brightness level. Please note that you can select the brightness level only on static colors (when one color is on), in the dynamic (blinking) mode, the brightness level does not work.

Demo button

This is the demo mode button. When you press it, the backlight will flicker in standard mode.

Mode + and Mode - button

We use them to select the dynamic / flickering mode we need. There are about 19 types of them. It should be noted that brightness control does not work in this mode. Therefore, if you want to change the brightness of the flickering mode, then first select a single color, change its brightness, and then select the required dynamic mode.

Speed ​​+ and Speed ​​- button

Serve in order to adjust the speed of dynamic modes. You can make the transfusion or flicker slower or faster. Accordingly, they work only with these modes and in other (single) modes will not give any effect.
