DIY stove made from car rims. Advantages and disadvantages of a homemade stove for the garage made from disks. What you need to know about disks

Purchasing a portable stove for a summer house or a sauna stove is an undertaking that requires a significant amount of money. The task of a garden stove is not so great that you need to spend money on a factory-made product. It is much easier and cheaper to make a stove from disks. Owners often throw away unusable car wheels; they can be purchased inexpensively at metal receptacles. To build a stove from wheel rims with your own hands, you will need skills in working with a grinder and a welding machine.

A furnace made from wheel rims is advantageous because the material for its manufacture is easy to find. Car wheels are made of special steels large thickness, little susceptible to corrosion. The thickness of the metal plays an important role in the operation of any furnace. The increased thickness of the material prevents the structure from deforming under the influence of high temperatures. Oven from car rims works on any solid fuel, even coal, which has a very high combustion temperature. Thick metal accumulates heat better, although it is inferior in inertness to cast iron and cools somewhat faster.

The discs have a special design - the end part with holes. This structural element suitable for organizing a burner, reduces the rate of heat loss, and is used for making a homemade grate. The outer rim of the disk is made with a nonlinear surface - this helps to increase the heat transfer area and optimizes movement flue gases when used to construct a smoke channel. Unlike cast iron stoves, a steel disk stove has the highest impact strength and is not afraid of water getting on hot surfaces.

The main criteria that speak about the advantages of a DIY disk oven:

  1. Availability of manufacturing materials;
  2. High strength, reliability;
  3. Favorable single element configuration – car disk;
  4. Long service life;
  5. Ease of manufacture;
  6. Fuel versatility.

List of materials and equipment for installation

To make a furnace from disks, you will first need the car wheels themselves. It is best to use wheels from cars and light trucks. Furnaces made from the disks of large heavy-duty trucks will turn out to be unnecessarily bulky and heavy, and it is difficult to ensure the tightness of their connections. For self-installation and assembly you will need the following materials:

  • Metal corner;
  • Material for making gratings;
  • Sheet of metal for mounting the door;
  • Small pieces of metal for stops;
  • Pipe with a wall thickness of at least 5 mm and a diameter of 100 mm;
  • Steel pipe with a wall thickness of 2.5 mm and a diameter of 80 - 100 mm.

Steel reinforcement is used to make the legs of a garden stove; the legs are also mounted from angle steel. The metal corner is used as a base for laying skewers; it is often removable. To lay skewers, you can place the corners on the upper socket of the disk perpendicular to the skewers. The steel grate is used for barbecuing, grilling, and serves as the basis for installing a boiler or cauldron. The grating is made of steel reinforcement.

Disk ovens are often made with a door. To do this you will need a sheet of metal, door hinges or an improvised loop of nuts and bolts of different diameters. The presence of a door increases the safety of the stove and improves the combustion process.

The stops along the perimeter serve as the basis for installing the cauldron and firmly fix the removable grate. A thick-walled pipe with a diameter of more than 100 mm is useful for making a sauna stove from disks. A pipe with a diameter of 80 mm and a wall thickness will be required for installing a chimney for a garden stove.

To make the unit yourself, you will need the following tools:

  1. Welding machine;
  2. Welder mask, electrodes;
  3. If available - cylinders with a gas cutter;
  4. Angle grinder (grinder) with cutting and cleaning discs;
  5. Sledgehammer;
  6. Hammer;
  7. Measuring and marking tool– chalk, pencil, marker and tape measure.

It is more convenient to use a gas cutter for cutting metal - the discs have convex, rounded surfaces; processing them with a grinder will be difficult. A window cut by a gas burner is easier to remove carbon deposits with a grinder and a grinding wheel. A sledgehammer is useful for straightening badly bent car rims.

Fire safety rules when installing homemade stoves

Compliance with fire safety rules – most important aspect when operating and making homemade stoves. This equally applies to factory-made stoves.

The surfaces of ovens are very hot - this can cause ignition of flammable substances. As for disk stoves, they do not have an ash pan; ash with particles of hot coals can spill through the grate. To collect them, it is necessary to install a container of appropriate diameter to prevent the entrainment of hot particles.

An important factor is the presence of a firebox door. A closed door slows down the combustion rate of the fuel load and prevents the escape of hot particles and sparks.

During construction sauna stove made from disks or a sauna stove, combustible building structures must be located at a safe distance from hot surfaces and shielded with a layer of non-combustible material. Fireproof material must have a low thermal conductivity coefficient. The location of the stove in the garden or country house is not recommended near combustible structures and materials.

It is better to choose a free space without strong wind load for the installation location. This will prevent the spread of sparks in the event of firewood falling out or the stove falling.

Furnaces cannot be constructed from disks to operate on waste oil or in long burning. The properties of special steel are such that complete sealing of a welded joint can only be checked using special methods and equipment non-destructive testing. The presence of leaks will result in the leakage of highly toxic components of the burning oil or the emission of smoke, carbon monoxide, hazardous to human health.

How to make a stove from discs for a sauna with your own hands

Metal disks on sauna stoves serve as a superstructure on stone oven. They perform the following tasks:

  1. Serve as a surface for heat transfer into the bathhouse;
  2. They are the basis for the construction of a heater;
  3. Serve as a chimney trunk;
  4. On their basis, a water heating circuit is often constructed - a tank is installed.

Installing the furnace itself from metal discs is impractical. Smoke leaks may occur due to leaks in welding seams; the metal has low inertia and cools quickly.

The superstructure installation process consists of the following steps:

  1. The first disk is installed on the finished stone stove. The disk is installed with the free side down. The joints with the surface of the furnace are sealed.
  2. To the front side of the first disc front side a second disk is installed and they are welded together.
  3. A hole is cut in the center of the front sides folded together, corresponding to the diameter of the selected chimney pipe. A pipe is installed on the cut hole and welded hermetically.
  4. A stone selection is placed in the internal space of the second disk around the pipe - it will serve as a heater. The stones are very inert and retain heat for a long time. They receive heat from heated metal disks, heat up and, when poured with water, produce steam.
  5. 4 posts of equal length are welded around the perimeter of the second disk.
  6. A third automobile disk is installed on the racks, face down, and a chimney is passed through it.
  7. The third disk is welded to the chimney pipe.
  8. Homemade tanks with a hole in the central part for passage are often installed on top of the disk. chimney. The water is heated in the tanks.
  9. The passage of the hot part of the chimney pipe through building structures is sealed with fireproof materials.
  10. A damper or gate is installed at the top of the chimney to regulate the draft force.

Sometimes stoves for baths using car rims are built according to a simplified design. A stove is installed on the surface of the firebox, and an open tank is placed on it to heat water. Next, behind the stove, channels are laid on the smoke channel instead of the upper wall. The channel joints are sealed with clay. A heater is laid on top of the channels.

After the heater, a vertical complex is constructed from disks welded together. The complex serves as a chimney channel and works as a heating device, releasing heat into the room. This design is much more reliable and airtight; it does not require the construction of an intricately shaped water tank with a passage space.

Mini garden oven made from car rims

Owners of land plots of private houses and summer residents often build various barbecues, braziers, and so on for cooking outdoors. An excellent solution to this problem would be to make a garden stove from car wheels.

The product can be made in a universal configuration. You can fry shashlik on the stove, cook pilaf in a cauldron, and cook various foods on the grill.

Installing a garden stove is quite simple. You will need two car wheels. One disc is cut central part front side. The disk is installed with the hole down. Legs made of large-diameter steel reinforcement or angles are welded around the perimeter of the disk. A homemade grate is installed on the cut hole.

In the second disk, the front side is cut out almost completely, it is welded to the first disk. In the second disk (in the upper part) supports for installing the grille are welded. A cauldron (without a grate) can be installed on the supports. The grate is made of fittings or small diameter pipes.

A window for the door is cut out in the side surface. The metal door is secured using factory or homemade hinges; you can do it easier - hang it on steel hooks.

Garden stoves are manufactured in two versions - with or without a smoke pipe. A smoke pipe made from a piece of a meter-long pipe removes most of the flue gases into the channel, facilitating the process of cooking - a small part of the flue gases passes through the grate. When using raw firewood or wood chips during the combustion process, a large number of smoke. In this case, the construction of a chimney is mandatory. Otherwise, the dishes will become excessively smoked, and the food will acquire a strong smell of smoke.

To install the chimney, a hole of the appropriate diameter is cut in the side surface of the second (upper) disk. A pipe 200 - 300 mm long is welded to it. A steel outlet is welded to the pipe, to which a vertical chimney pipe is mounted. The joining of a branch pipe and a vertical pipe is sometimes carried out without a branch, through an oblique joint.

Brazier made from wheel rims

Such a device using old wheels has many advantages, starting with ease of transportation and ending with the ability to maintain the required temperature inside the device due to free access of air.

This barbecue is convenient to use due to its optimal height. It is characterized by ease of movement, light and simple care and with all this has high level reliability and durability. Manufacturing options, as well as we discussed earlier.

There are many ways to perform homemade units from wheel rims. Let's consider the simplest of them, the manufacture of which will require a minimum of materials and effort. To install it, it is enough to seal the lower hole of the disk with a steel sheet or other material, for example, ceramic tiles.

But, despite all the advantages, this type of barbecue has some disadvantages. Among them the following are noted:

  • low location of the cooking surface;
  • if you install such a device directly on the ground, there will not be enough thrust to maintain the flame, which is why it may go out;
  • small volume of the combustion chamber.

In terms of ease of use, this design is equivalent to a regular camp stand for a brick skewer. For infrequent use, this model is quite suitable, but to make a more reliable and convenient unit you need to work a little more.

For such a barbecue you will need two wheels, as well as a set of tools and materials, including:

  • welding machine with electrodes;
  • grinder;
  • meter profile pipe;
  • fasteners in the form of bolts and nuts;
  • wire;
  • mask and gloves for personal protection.

There is nothing complicated in making a barbecue from two rims. Step by step it looks like this:

An important nuance in creating wheeled barbecue is as follows: the bottom of the furnace should not be welded with metal, as this will interfere with the creation of good draft. To optimize work, you can cover the bottom metal mesh or make a lattice from thick wire, constructing a kind of grate.

That's all, grill from a wheel rim ready. You can improve it if you want appearance. To do this, the metal must be thoroughly calcined so that all remaining paint, gasoline and oil burn out. After this, you can start sanding the body, and finally coat it with black heat-resistant paint.

Gathering with friends and family to cook over an open fire - what could be better for nature lovers? For example, shish kebab can be cooked all year round, because almost everyone has a barbecue. But a variety of dishes made in a cauldron cannot be cooked without a special stove. The purchase of such a stove is usually postponed until later, since it is not cheap and takes up a lot of space. However, you can make it yourself from wheel rims. Firstly, you can make exactly the stove you want, and secondly, it will cost much less.

Stoves for cauldrons are made not only from disks. Can be used for making metal barrel. But it is too thin, so a strong fire can simply burn through its walls.

Drawing of a potbelly stove made from a metal barrel

Another option is to use steel sheet by choosing required thickness. This design will be reliable, but will also come at a store price.

The most the best option What remains are the car rims that may have been lying around somewhere in the garage. In addition to its low cost, such a stove for a cauldron has many other advantages:

  • materials for production are always available;
  • the car disk is made of durable steel of sufficient thickness, so the stove will last for many years;
  • car rims are resistant to high temperatures and open fire;
  • the steel from which the disc is made heats up quickly;
  • since there are disks of different diameters, the structure can be made to the desired size;
  • From car wheels you can make a stove not only for cooking, but also for heating small rooms or for lighting a bathhouse.

Another significant advantage is that a homemade stove can be made without experience. The only tools you will need are a welding machine and a grinder.

Step-by-step guide to making a stove

Inspired by the fact that you will independently make a necessary thing in the household, and having taken the necessary tools and materials, you can begin to make a stove for a cauldron.

It is worth noting that a design made of aluminum wheels will not work; you need to take two steel wheels.

First we make the upper part of the furnace. Turning the disc with the mounting pad up, use a grinder to cut a circle through the bolt holes and pull out the middle. As a result, you will get a stable surface on which to place the cauldron.

The second stage of work will be making the bottom of the stove. We turn the disk so that the mounting platform is at the bottom, and place the upper part of the stove on top, which we made in the previous step. Weld two disks together in a circle.

In order for the stove to be lit, you need to cut a hole about 20 by 12 cm in the lower part. To make the structure durable, make a hole two centimeters higher from the bottom edge. The cut out part will serve as a good door for the combustion chamber.

To ensure stability of the structure, you need to weld three footrests to it, the length of which is about 20–30 cm. Steel corners can be used as a material.

To make the stove easy to carry, weld handles to the sides.

Use a metal plate to cover the hole in the disc hub at the bottom of the stove.

This is how in a few hours you will get an excellent oven made from car wheels, which is well suited for cooking your favorite dishes.

Potbelly stove made from wheel rims

Old car wheels can be used not only for making a stove for a cauldron. They will make an excellent potbelly stove, which will not differ at all from those sold in stores.

Preparatory work

In order not to be distracted while working, you need to immediately prepare everything you need. For a potbelly stove you should stock up on:

  • four car wheels;
  • metal sheet, chimney pipe;
  • bricks and cement for the base of the furnace;
  • door canopies for doors;
  • welding machine;
  • grinder;
  • a hacksaw for metal, for small work where it would be difficult to cut a disc with a grinder;
  • metalworking tools: file, sledgehammer, hammer, pliers, measuring tool;
  • paint brush and paints that can withstand high temperatures.

It is worth noting that the work will be dirty and noisy, so choose the right place to make a stove from car wheels. For example, it will be convenient to work on the street, in a garage or workshop.

Stages of work

After the preparatory part, you can safely begin manufacturing the structure.

First stage

We take three disks and cut out the middle using a grinder. The process can take a long time because the discs have an uneven shape, making it difficult to reach the middle.

Second phase

The next step will be welding. We weld a square metal sheet to the lower wheel rim. It must extend beyond the walls of the disk so that burning coal or a spark from the furnace falls onto it. This is a guarantee of fire safety.

We weld the disks together in a circle. You need to be careful not to leave unwelded holes through which smoke from the potbelly stove will escape. We also weld all the holes for the valve for the camera.

We weld the seams

Third stage

Next, we cut out the doors for the firebox and ash pan. We recommend cutting a hole for the ash pan in the lowest disk, and for the firebox in the second one from the bottom. The metal pieces that remain can be used as doors. There is no hole for the ash pan, so that the draft goes well, you can open the doors of the ash pan or firebox.

Installation of a chimney pipe. We weld the pipe into the center of the uppermost disk or onto a sheet of iron that can be welded to the upper disk. In the second case, your potbelly stove will be more fireproof and reliable.

Fourth stage

The last step is to install the stove on the base. Its height can be equal to the height of one brick, since the entire stove does not weigh very much. First you need to make a square formwork from bricks and pour it cement mortar. After the solution has dried, you can safely install the potbelly stove.

To ensure that the stove lasts longer and the metal does not corrode, we recommend covering the potbelly stove with a special paint that can withstand constant high temperatures. It is especially important to paint the upper part of the structure: it is there that moisture constantly evaporates, so the metal becomes more vulnerable to losing its properties.

As a result, from the maintained materials you will get an excellent, reliable potbelly stove that will heat the room no worse than a new one.

DIY barbecue made from wheel rims

Car wheels can serve as an excellent material for another device - a barbecue. It will be light, making it easy to move. There will also be free access of air into such an oven from the wheel rims, so you will quickly achieve the desired temperature.

There are several ways to make a grill yourself. The simplest is to place the disc on a steel sheet. Here's an ordinary grill for you. But this design has its drawbacks:

  • the plane is set too low;
  • if the grill stands on the ground, there will be weak draft, which may cause the fire to go out;
  • small combustion chamber.

For infrequent use, such a homemade grill is suitable. It is lightweight, so you can take it with you outdoors. However, you can make a more reliable and convenient grill with your own hands.

The working process

For the barbecue you will need:

  • two car rims;
  • welding machine;
  • Bulgarian;
  • profile pipe 1 meter;
  • bolts and nuts;
  • wire.

Now you can start manufacturing.

From the first disk, using a grinder or a gas cutter, you need to cut out the mounting pad.

Door

The next stage is the door. It is needed to make it convenient to add new fuel without removing food from the grill. It will also make it easier to maintain the fire.

First you need to roughly decide where the door will be located. Typically, the fuel hole is made 2–3 cm above the bottom. Sketch the side of the structure, then cut a hole and sand the edges of the cutout. Using bolts, we make hinges on one side of the rectangular hole so that the door opens and closes easily. You need to weld nuts to the door itself so that you can then hang it on the bolts. Finishing touch- this is a handle that you can weld for ease of use of the door.

Legs

What's a barbecue without legs? Usually the length of the legs is about 60–80 cm. This and convenient option when cooking and fireproof. But you can choose a different length that is more suitable for you. To make the legs you will need a profile pipe. Cut it into three equal parts and weld it to the grill body. In order for a homemade stove to stand stable, the legs must be placed at the same distance from each other with emphasis on the side and partition.

Pens

Handles for easy movement of the structure, which can be made using thick wire about 8 mm. Determine their approximate location, preferably on the sides of the door, then weld the nuts through which you thread the handles.

Unlike other stoves made from wheel rims, there is no need to weld it to the bottom of the grill. a metal sheet, it can interfere with good traction. It is better to cover the bottom with a metal mesh or make a wire grid to create something like a non-standard grate.

As you can see, rims that were just lying around idle can be very useful on the farm. Treat yourself and your loved ones with dishes over an open fire, which will turn out delicious and properly cooked in ovens made from car wheels.

A stove made from car wheel disks can heat a room up to 15-16 square meters. m, heating a bathhouse or becoming an inexpensive, effective cooking device, which is what this article is actually about. Its main advantage is the availability of high-quality material - thick, resistant and durable steel. Boiler steel in sheets and profiles is expensive, and ordinary structural steel in a furnace structure quickly burns out.

IN additional advantage furnaces made from disks can be verified by experience. Take two pieces of metal of approximately the same size and weight: one from simple steel, and the other cut from a wheel rim, and heat it up stronger, at least in the kitchen on gas. The first one will immediately give off the smell of hot iron, and the second one can be heated to orange (about 900 degrees), without feeling anything unpleasant in the air. A furnace made from wheel rims practically does not dry out the air and does not emit harmful fumes into the atmosphere, because the rims for the wheels are made of special steels that are resistant to corrosion. Of course, they are not standardized for heat resistance, but The reserve of resistance that is built into them is quite enough for a wood-coal stove.

What you need to know about disks

The furnace is being worked out. made using car wheels. Don't do things like that!

To make a furnace from disks with your own hands, you need to know not only the advantages, but also the disadvantages source material and some, significant in this case, features of the design of furnaces. The disadvantage of special steel is that it is not standardized for welding properties. There are several technologies for the production of wheel rims, but if welding is used for this, it is very limited, followed by thermal tempering (annealing) and flaw detection of the seam. And, of course, no vehicle designer expects anything to be welded to the wheels during operation.

This leads to a very important conclusion from a safety point of view: from disks (see figure), as well as pyrolysis ones, This should not be done under any circumstances! Unless you really want that at one not at all wonderful moment boiling, most likely burning, oil will flow through a crack in the seam or chemically aggressive, highly toxic gases will begin to be released. But these stoves cannot be extinguished; they must burn out completely. Disks can only be used to make a solid fuel combustion furnace.

Note: welds for special operating conditions that are not properly quality controlled are considered unreliable. Welded vessels operating under pressure, heat and for chemically aggressive contents that have not undergone flaw detection and subsequently tested in the operating mode of use are a priori recognized as unsuitable. Any oven satisfies at least two of these conditions.

However, it is possible to make a completely safe solid fuel stove from car rims by welding for non-residential premises (country house also applies to them) is quite possible if you follow the following. rules:

  1. The weld must be of visually high quality, without visible defects - cracks, splashes, holes, bubbles, see fig. on right;
  2. You can only weld two mating parts at a time; under no circumstances should you weld the entire structure at once!
  3. After making each seam, the welded parts must be given a rest to allow residual internal stresses to resolve, approx. from 3 minutes per kilogram of mass of connected parts. In practice, cook further no earlier than when you can touch the metal with your bare hand 3-4 cm from the end of the seam;
  4. The finished furnace, after being left for a day to absorb the same stresses, is subjected to a test run, from 3 hours for a stationary one and from an hour for a portable outdoor one, at full power, i.e. with the air throttle (if equipped) or combustion/blower door fully open, and maximum fuel load.

During the test run, the furnace is annealed simultaneously. Detected minor welding defects, no more than 2 per seam, are eliminated after a day, after which the furnace run with annealing is repeated.

Note: The modulus of the coefficient of thermal expansion of TKR steel for car wheels is significantly less than that of structural steels. It’s clear why, but this circumstance also needs to be kept in mind when making a stove, see below.

What you need to know about ovens

When making a stove from car rims, you need to be aware of one more circumstance. According to the rules for the construction of combustion furnaces using solid fuel from the firebox or grate, i.e. from where the fuel is placed, there must be at least 40-50 cm to the first vertical obstacle to the flow of flue gases (for example, the roof of the firebox) if conditioned fuel is loaded into the stove. If it is damp or waste, the specified distance should be increased to 60-80 cm; The heating time of the oven will then increase. The latter is unimportant for disk furnaces, because they warm up quickly.

The reason is from solid fuel hot pyrolysis gases are released, contributing a significant, or even decisive, share to the heat release. If pyrolysis gases come into contact with a less heated surface, they will not be able to burn out and soot will fall out. With further use of such a stove, it will become coked - dense carbon deposits will form on the roof of the firebox and in the chimney. It not only reduces the thermal efficiency of the furnace (analogous to efficiency in the furnace business), but is also a fire hazard.

Note: a high firebox for raw fuel is made so that the pyrolysis gases and water vapor have time to separate, and the former also burn out before reaching the roof. In this case, fuel is loaded to no more than half the height of the firebox.

Disk stoves are very often operated using waste fuel (rotten dried wood, damp scraps, etc.), but at the same time, there may simply not be enough unusable disks for a high stove, or the optimal stove design in this case (see below) ) will not allow you to make a high firebox. Then you can make an oven out of disks by using a non-standard grate made of steel sheet from 6 mm and reinforcing bars from 10 mm. There is no need to fear that there will not be enough air for combustion: through a hole with a diameter of 10 cm, with a chimney 1.5 m high, it will pass enough for a power of 18 kW for wood and 30 kW for coal. A furnace made of disks will never develop something like this.

The non-standard grate is simply inserted into the oven with a gap of approx. 6-10 mm, due to the difference in TKR materials, see above. This design has another advantage - it solves the problem of the ash pan, which is quite serious for disk furnaces. In this case, they simply substitute it under the ashes tin can with a diameter of 15 cm.

Note: horizontal ovens from disks (see below) for the same purpose they are made without grate, i.e. the fuel burns on the stove floor, and the air flow is regulated by a throttle in the ash pan. The durability of steel for discs makes it possible to use such a solution.

What kind of oven should I make?

Based on the above, the possibilities of making a stove yourself from car disks can be sorted out like this:

  • When it is desirable and necessary, because the use of auto disks allows you to improve the quality of the stove and/or simplify its manufacture.
  • When possible, for the main (fire) parts of the furnace structure instead of expensive heat-resistant steel.
  • When possible, partially as a sufficiently resistant material at hand.
  • When you can’t do anything - discussed above.

When needed

The best use of stove disks is in mobile (portable) outdoor and garden cooking stoves and as firelights. In the simplest disk-based stove for a summer residence, a large mass and height of the side (rim of the disk) are used, which allows stabilizing heat transfer and provides some protection from the wind. How to make a simple country and garden stove from a car wheel, see video:

Video: mini garden oven made from car rims

For the cauldron

However best use disks in garden stoves - under a cauldron. The stove made of discs for the cauldron is completely round, and it is in the corners of the brick stove under the cauldron that the cooking utensils heat up less, and soot settles there. The disk stove ensures absolutely uniform heating of the cauldron and saves firewood, which is very significant when using waste fuel. The branches and chips collected on the site and in the surrounding area may not be enough for the pilaf or beshbarmak to ripen as expected. And damp and rotten fuel in a massive brick firebox simply will not heat the cooking vessel to the required degree. In a cauldron oven, both are excluded from auto disks, but – let us emphasize – if it's done correctly.

Flue gases follow the path of least resistance. If you simply weld 2 disks and cut a combustion hole on the side, then hot gases will flow through the technological (to facilitate the design) holes in the disk hub, pos. 1 in Fig., because their total area is larger than that of the fastening and axial ones, and they are lower. If the stove is heated to maximum, then perhaps a tongue of flame will appear from the axial hole, pos. 2, but with a cauldron on the burner of such a stove, all the heat will again go to the side to no avail, pos. 3, or, if you try to plug some of the technical holes, or add fuel, the flame will burst out of the loading door, pos. 4. On such a stove, food prepared by simmering over coals turns out well, pos. 5, but not everyone cooks this way.

A proper stove for a cauldron made from disks must, firstly, be equipped with a tightly closing door on the loading opening. Secondly, the cauldron should sit in the cutout of the burner, partially blocking the technological holes in the hub, pos. 6. This is not difficult to achieve: you need to cut out the middle of the hub with a grinder, as shown in pos. 7. The remainder will not go to waste - it will make an excellent grate. How to make a garden stove for a cauldron from car wheel rims, see also video

Video: oven for a cauldron made of disks

BBQ option

It is not necessary to cut out the core of the disk hub, except for simmering on coals, in the case when garden barbecue oven from disks. Then a grille is placed on the burner - a flame divider, which will at the same time serve as a culinary grille-rasper. The advantage of this design is that several different temperature zones are formed on the rasp, pos. 1 in Fig. on the right, which allows, for example, to simultaneously cook rare roast beef (half-raw with blood), medium (juicy, moderately baked, like a shish kebab), and well done (fried until crispy). If there is a group of people at the picnic, everyone will get something to their liking at the same time. It is advisable to make such a furnace from disks with a small number of wide technological holes in the hub, for example. from Gazelle. The grille is made from bicycle spokes. There is no need to cook them: they are perfectly joined with heat-resistant metal glue (cold welding).

Note: sometimes stoves without a combustion door are made from disks of the same type (item 2 in the figure on the right), placing thin wood chips through the technical holes in the hub during combustion. But the stove turns out to be gluttonous and does not cook well. Why - see above.

When you can completely

A heating stove-potbelly stove made entirely of disks works well. The advantage in this case will be its large heat capacity and heat transfer time - the metal of the body is thick - although, of course, not the same as that of cast iron, and a slight increase in efficiency. The downside is the higher labor intensity of manufacturing improved furnaces with increased efficiency due to complex configuration housings.

If there is plenty of waste fuel, then a stove-stove made from disks for heating small room can be made without internal partitions-dividers (see below) horizontal, pos. 1 in Fig. It is highly advisable to make such a furnace from the disks of a truck: firstly, a larger volume of the furnace will increase its efficiency and heat transfer time. Secondly, due to the complex surface of the disc rim, the heat-generating area outer surface may be one and a half to two times more than a simple round one of the same volume from a barrel or. The same circumstance, together with the high corrosion resistance of car wheel rims, makes it possible to equip the stove with a jacket for water heating, see for example. track. plot:

Video: potbelly stove made of discs with a jacket

Horizontal potbelly stoves are bulky, so vertical ones are often made. If we're talking about about a disk stove, then, firstly, you need to take care of a suitable grate and ash pan for it, see above. You can’t let coals and hot ash fall directly onto the fire protection area!

As for thermal properties, they can be improved in two ways. The first is when quick heating of the room is required, and the heat transfer time is not significant, for example, if the stove is placed in a garage. Then its upper, hot part is surrounded by an annular casing made of thin steel (not galvanized! Zinc melts at 440 degrees, and its vapors are poisonous!), with a gap of 40-60 mm, pos. 2 in Fig. The potbelly stove thus turns into a heater stove. But, by the way, a horizontal furnace-heater made of disks will be much more efficient, see below.

The second method is used when, on the contrary, it is necessary to increase the time of heat transfer after heating, for example, in a country house inhabited from spring to autumn. To do this, you need to line the stove with any in an accessible way materials that combine high heat capacity and thermal conductivity. Soapstone (soapstone) stove stone is expensive, but fireclay brick (item 3) can completely replace it. As a last resort, you can hob apply heavier and denser wild stone, pos. 4. If the stove consists of 4 weight disks, the fuel burns out completely and the view closes by midnight, then in a tracksuit under an army blanket you sleep peacefully until 6-7 o’clock in the morning. You can get some sleep.

Let's improve the potbelly stove made of disks

It is possible to increase the thermal efficiency of any potbelly stove by installing cut-off partitions inside. This creates an afterburner chamber. In this case, the air casing, which converts the stove into a heater, also increases the efficiency of the stove.

Diagrams for constructing potbelly stoves made from disks are shown in Fig. The simple vertical one (item 1) is more compact, somewhat more efficient than the horizontal one (item 3) and provides a cooking surface, but installing an afterburner chamber cut-off device (item 2) in it is more difficult, because in this case, it must be welded to it along the entire contour adjacent to the furnace body. However, a vertical potbelly stove with a single-turn afterburner achieves an efficiency of slightly more than 60%. A simple horizontal potbelly stove (item 3) is the worst in all respects, but quite effective stoves are made on its basis. The leading value for the development of modifications is the smallest internal diameter of the fuel chamber d.

Note: To weld the body of a potbelly stove from car wheels, their hubs are completely cut out, see fig. on right.

Dimensional ratios for potbelly stoves made of disks with a single- and 2-turn afterburner are given in pos. 4 and 5. The efficiency of both is approx. 60%, but the 2-turn keeps it on junk fuel, and the single-turn requires quality to ensure the highest possible thermal efficiency. Cut the cutter (steel from 4 mm) exactly according to inner contour there is no need for a furnace body: you only need to select holes in its blank so that there is a gap between the cutter and the body wall of approx. 1.5 cm pos. 4a. Then the afterburner will become self-adjusting to the progress (firing mode) of the furnace and it will maintain efficiency close to maximum, both at low and at full speed ahead. A similar solution is used in Buleryan stoves, but for this purpose holes are punched in the cutter. In mass production, this is more profitable: the cutter is still cut out in one stroke of the press punch, and metallurgists willingly buy metal waste as a high-quality raw material for open-hearth furnaces. Well, at home it’s easier to leave a gap along the edges of the cutter.

A horizontal potbelly stove made of disks with an afterburner is generally comparable in efficiency to a Buleryan if it is equipped with an air casing with a slotted nozzle at the top and an air intake skirt at the bottom, pos. 5a. The casing should be adjacent to the body from the outside, and the resulting channels will act in exactly the same way as in the buleryan or stoves Engineer Butakov, Fire-Battery, etc.

Note: in the chimneys of highly efficient potbelly stoves made of disks (items 2 and 5), there must be a condensate collector with a drain valve, because the flue gases coming out of them are slightly warm.

Based horizontal stove From the disks you can make a full-fledged heating boiler, pos. 6. If you weld its flame body from KAMAZ disks, you can accelerate to a thermal power of approx. 40 kW, and this is enough to heat an ordinary residential building.

However, making the heat exchanger body from disks of the same size, pos. 1 in Fig., is irrational: then you will have to install a fire-tube heat receiver, pos. 2. It is better to weld the heat exchanger body from smaller disks, for example. from passenger car. The temperature in it will then rise to values that allow the use of a water-tube heat sink. Of the preventive measures, it only requires an annual pressure test in order to pressurize the system before startup and inspect it after it.

A water-tube heat receiver is a thin, solid coil through which coolant flows. The distance between the branches is equal to the outer diameter of the pipe; The branches are arranged in a checkerboard pattern. You can make a water-tube heat receiver for the heat exchanger of a home boiler from disks from a copper tube with a clearance of 20 mm and a wall thickness of 2 mm. In this case, the input and output of the heat receiver into the heat exchanger is sealed by cold welding.

Oven partially made of disks

As components Autodiscs are widely used in sauna stoves. A sauna stove made of disks can be built entirely, but only for a barely average-level sauna. In a Russian bathhouse, the steam from any all-metal stove is harsh.

What a sauna stove built using car wheel rims looks like is shown in Fig. rights, and a complete diagram of its structure is given in Fig. below. The main thing that ensures the proper quality of steam in this furnace is the brick firebox. Autodiscs are used as a container for the contents of a closed heater and for the manufacture of a water heating tank.

Note: building a homemade sauna stove with an open heater is only possible special design entirely made of brick, ensuring complete combustion of the gases coming from the firebox, including carbon dioxide and water vapor, before they reach the heater. Branded metal sauna stoves with an open heater are made for this purpose from special materials using complex technology. If you try to repeat this on your own using ordinary materials, a cloud of soot will fly out of the heater with each addition of water.

This sauna stove has already been repeated by many who like to take a steam bath in their sauna. In general, everyone is happy; Only one permanent defect was noticed: the lower cutter (parts Strut and Reflector on the right in the figure) after a year or two becomes warped and comes off from the struts, or the struts from the body. The reason is obvious: different TKR steel of the specified parts and the body from the auto disk. To eliminate the defect, it is apparently necessary to make the cutter also from a smaller disk, for example, a passenger one. Most of the rim must be cut out, leaving 4 legs. Then heat the transition points between the rim and the hub and bend the legs to size.

There is no need to weld holes in the hub. Due to heat transfer to the body, the shutter will be slightly cooler than the flue gases. Since the hub is convex, a gas plug forms under it, similar to a gas hole in a bell-type furnace, as in a bad garden stove from disks, see above, and the flue gases will still flow around the bottom of the heater, as shown by the arrows in the diagram.

Combi option

Amateurs don’t have dozens of worthless wheel rims lying around in their garages, but wear out, as a rule, in pairs, either front or rear. In this case, in order to make a sufficiently efficient stove with a high firebox from the disks, a couple of disks will need to be supplemented with a piece steel pipe suitable diameter with walls from 6 mm.

The design of a furnace made of 2 disks from car wheels is shown in Fig. It does not differ in anything special from those described above. The same oven can be made horizontal. For the design of the burner, see above.

Disc oven - worthy alternative brick or stone structure. The product is not difficult to make, but it turns out to be quite original in appearance. A similar stove made from KAMAZ or Zilov disks can easily provide heating for a room with a total area of up to 15-16 square meters. That is why it is proposed to create a similar product for heating a garage or bathhouse. And also the finished stove can be used as an effective cooking material.

Worth knowing! From a safety point of view, in no case should you make mining furnaces, pyrolysis furnaces, or long-burning structures from disks. If you omit this recommendation, there is a possibility that boiling oil or chemically aggressive substances will begin to leak through the crack in the seam.

Why are rims perfect?

Why are rims perfect? This is a pressing question for those who decided to make a stove with their own hands and came across information that it is made from car wheels. Of course, it is allowed to use not only accessories for car wheels, but also other materials, for example, a metal barrel. But keep in mind that the material is usually very thin, which easily leads to the walls of the structure being burned through. You can also use a steel sheet, choosing a suitable thickness. However, keep in mind that its price is quite high, and the created product will turn out at a price almost equal to the store price.

We can conclude that rims are the best option. Many drivers have such a “treasure” lying around in the garage, or you can borrow it from relatives and friends. As a result, you will be able to make a liver for a cauldron without any problems. Rims for car wheels as a material for creating a furnace have many other advantages, namely:

  • availability;
  • quality of material (sufficient steel thickness);
  • durability of the finished structure due to the massiveness of the base;
  • resistance to any mechanical damage, temperature changes, elevated temperatures, including open fire;
  • high heating rate of the steel from which the wheel is made;
  • different diameters of wheel rims, which allows you to easily make the design of the required dimensions.

At the same time, the finished structure can be used in different ways. It is suitable for preparing dishes, but also for heating a bathhouse complex or heating small areas (utility rooms and garages).

The good thing about the stove itself is that it is extremely easy to maintain, has compact dimensions, provides fast heating and excellent heat transfer. You can also use any type of fuel at your discretion, such as coal, wood or fuel pellets. It is worth considering that the design still has one significant drawback - the metal heats up during the heating process. And this, if used carelessly, can lead to injuries and burns.

Advice! You should not consider such a stove made of wheel rims as a permanent heating device. This is explained by its ability to cool quickly. This usually happens 1.5-2 hours after the last batch of fuel burns out.

A huge advantage is the ability to make a homemade stove without any experience. You just need to prepare the required tools and materials. Which? Welding machine, grinder, rims.

Fire safety rules

It is very important to follow fire safety rules when making a stove. This will prevent unpleasant situations and injuries. It is important to understand that a disk oven heats with infrared radiation. This is why shielding is recommended to convert the infrared flux into warm air. Shielding involves surrounding the stove with steel casing, which is installed so that there is a gap of 7-10 cm from the floor to the structure itself, as well as between the casing and the stove.

So, it is important to comply following rules safety during operation of the structure:

  1. A steel sheet, or better yet, a reinforced concrete slab should be laid on the floor. This must be done so that such a coating extends beyond the contours of the structure by 60 centimeters or more in each direction. This will prevent the room from catching fire if coal accidentally gets on the floor.
  2. It is important to exclude any contact of the chimney pipe and the metal stove with flammable materials. Additionally, you can use insulating gaskets.
  3. Before lighting the stove, you must make sure that there is draft in the channels. If not, you should first warm up the chimney using small amounts of burned wood or by cleaning the ash pan and the passages themselves.
  4. It is highly recommended not to use liquid lighters, as this may cause fire to escape from the firebox opening.
  5. When installing a stove in a bathhouse, it is recommended to do this so that the combustion part of the structure goes directly to the dressing room. This arrangement has a huge number of advantages, including it is more convenient to heat, smoke will not get into the steam room even in windy weather, the dressing room will also be heated.

Advice! If you want to make a stove in accordance with all the rules, you will additionally need wood hangers (large bolts and nuts are also suitable), iron sheets, pipe sections, cement-sand mortar, clay, steel channels and fire bricks. And the body for the structure can be made directly from the wheel rims themselves.

Step-by-step instructions for creating a furnace from disks

Step-by-step instructions for creating a furnace from disks will help you make the structure without any problems. It is only important to decide on the purpose of using the ready-made device. In particular, if you are making a stove for heating or cooking, then the design is quite simple. The base of such a stove can be refractory bricks or a section of an old radiator on which a metal sheet is mounted (its thickness should be more than 5-8 mm).

The design itself must be done following the following steps:

  1. Prepare four KAMAZ disks. They must be steel; aluminum will not work.
  2. Using a grinder, cut out the center portion of the three discs.
  3. Weld two disks together. In the lower disk, install a round plate of suitable size and cut from a steel sheet. If desired, this plate can be immediately welded to the metal base.
  4. Using a grinder, cut a small square hole on the side of the resulting workpiece. This piece should not be thrown away; it will be used to make a door. The door can be mounted to the body using welded bolts and nuts. Additionally, you can attach a latch and a handle. The result is a finished housing that will perform two functions at once - a blower (to increase the draft, you will need to slightly open the door of the lower chamber) and an ash pan.
  5. Next, weld the two remaining disks together so that at the bottom there is an element with an uncut core. Firewood will be stacked on it. On the side you need to cut a hole in the same way as described above and install the door.
  6. A plate should be mounted at the top of the firebox, and a plate should be cut in it round hole. A pipe will be installed in it.
  7. All that remains is to connect all the parts of the body together. Carefully lower the pipe into the upper hole and weld it so that the valve is at the top.

It is important to remember that the weakest point of the oven is the seams. That is why they need to be brewed with maximum responsibility. If this is not done, smoke will leak through the cracks and enter the room. And if you do everything in accordance with the recommendations, the smoke will go up the chimney. D Additionally, you can cover the cracks and seams with clay and sprinkle with dry sand, since the seams tend to become thinner during use.

Advice! It is worth using a video with master classes in which creating a stove from car wheels with your own hands will not be difficult. Remember that the wheels of a truck, such as a Kamaz or ZIL, are ideal.

Potbelly stove for a bath from accessories for wheels

The potbelly stove for a bath from accessories for wheels has some differences from other stoves. In particular, it is necessary to organize a container for water. To create the upper chamber you will need two rims. They need to cut out the central mounting plates using a grinder. Only the headbands remain. It is important to understand that water will be heated in this tank, so it is important to achieve a tight seal. Both rims are laid on top of each other and welded together.

The top of the finished tank must be closed with a movable valve or metal lid. You can worry about safety and weld the product tightly, leaving a small sliding hole for pouring water. All that remains is to make the bottom of the chamber, for which you will need a metal plate.

Next, you need to cut holes in both the upper and lower parts of the tank according to the diameter of the chimney pipe. Then the pipe should be mounted and welded. A thin tube should be installed so that it is located at the very bottom of the tank at an angle to the floor. It should be closed with a tap. It will be used to drain the water.

It is important! At this stage, the structure should be checked for leaks. To do this, fill the tank with water and inspect it for leaks. Special attention should be given to pipe cuts and seams. If there is a leak, be sure to drain the water, dry the tank, and then repair the cracks by welding.

Now you can start developing the heater. To do this, you need to take the two remaining rims and cut out the core from one of them. Both products are installed on top of each other and welded so that the hub of the entire disk is in the middle. It will serve as a kind of sheathing. You need to pour stones on top of the resulting container. The lower part of the structure will become top part fireboxes

It is advisable to give preference to rounded stones, such as diabase, peridotite, basalt, jaldeite, dunite or gabbro-diabase. However, such material is quite expensive. Alternative option- look for stones near ponds. Preference should be given to dark-colored rocks that have a non-layered structure and are well hardened by the sun and moisture.

Worth knowing! From time to time the stones in the stove need to be replaced. This is due to the fact that the material tends to break down when exposed to high temperatures. This causes smoke to escape from homemade stove with difficulty, which negatively affects functioning.

Next you need to organize a high-quality foundation. It must be not only durable, but also fireproof. A reinforced concrete screed is ideal, which is additionally lined with fire-resistant brick on top. You need to start creating the lower part of the future sauna stove only after the base has dried. At this time, you need to prepare red heat-resistant bricks (approximately 60 pieces for a structure with 62x62 cm masonry). The bricks should be laid in a square, fastened with clay diluted with water. Be sure to leave a cavity for the blower, as well as a hole for the door. And on top of the masonry you need to install a grate.

All that remains is to assemble all the parts of the structure together. The metal part must be connected to the brick part, and the firebox and vent must be closed with manufactured doors. Next, you should weld the second piece of pipe to the central hole of the hub and sew it to the top of the chimney (we ran it through the water tank). Then you need to place large or medium-sized stones on the bottom and small stones on top of the heater.

In some cases, there is a need to strengthen the structure. Metal channels that need to be welded under will help with this. small angle to the water tank and heater. The pipe itself remains to be led into the chimney, which must be lined with fire-resistant bricks, and closed with a damper. The great advantage of such a homemade stove is that it can heat a medium-sized steam room in just one hour.

That's all, the sauna stove is ready for use. This is a potbelly stove with a pipe, which will allow you to significantly save money, because now there will be no need to buy a ready-made structure. You can also pay attention to the drawings that will allow you to make a larger-scale homemade furnace from waste stamped disks.

Advice! The design always turns out to be standard, but you can add originality to it by beautifully decorating it. Photos of those people who have already made a stove from disks for a cauldron or for a bath will help with this. You can choose the most suitable option and implement it or dream up and create your own masterpiece.

Do-it-yourself oven-barbecue made from car rims

A do-it-yourself barbecue oven made from car rims will allow you to often cook outdoors. By the way, such a design can be called a camping design, since it has small dimensions and can easily be taken with you into nature by placing it in the trunk of a car.

To create the design you will need:

  • welding machine;
  • two rims;
  • Bulgarian;
  • bolts;
  • nuts;
  • profile pipe (1 meter);
  • wire.

Now you can proceed directly to production. The mounting pad should be cut out of the first disk using a grinder (you can also use a gas cutter). Next, both disks should be welded in a circle so that the partition of the disk is at the very bottom of the future grill.

Next you need to start creating the door. It is needed so that you can add new fuel without removing food from the grill. In addition, the door will make maintaining a fire seem like a simple task. First you need to choose a location for the door. It is recommended that it be located 2-3 centimeters above the bottom. Next, you need to draw the future product on the side of the structure, cut it out with a grinder and sand the edges. On one side of the hole you need to make loops using bolts. You need to weld the nuts to the door itself, and then hang it on the bolts. In conclusion, you need to make a handle that will ensure ease of use. It is simply welded.

Now you need to start creating the legs. Their recommended length should be 60-80 centimeters. This will comply with safety regulations and is also convenient for cooking. But if desired, the length of the legs can be changed. For manufacturing, you will need a profile pipe, which is cut into three equal parts and welded to the body of the product so that the homemade stove stands level on the ground.

The barbecue made from wheel rims may have to be moved from place to place. For convenience, it is worth making handles. They are made of thick wire, the thickness of which is 8 mm or more. You need to weld nuts on the sides of the door (or above) and thread the handles through them.

It is important! Unlike other designs of stoves made from wheel rims, there is no need to weld a metal sheet to the bottom of the barbecue. Its presence can cause cravings to worsen. It is recommended to cover the bottom with a mesh or make an analogue of a wire mesh (something similar to a grate).

It can be concluded that the production outdoor stove with your own hands is a feasible task for every person. To eliminate any problems, it is enough to adhere to the algorithm and follow the recommendations exactly. The only difficulty may be that no welding machine or simply do not have the skills to work with it. But this problem is easily solved by calling a specialist who will carry out the welding in half an hour. In skillful hands, wheel rims will definitely not lie around idle. You can additionally paint them to make the finished stove look impressive and extraordinary. You should only use paints that are resistant to high temperatures.
