How to make your kitchen interior comfortable. Interesting and functional kitchen ideas. It is best to give preference to lightweight fabrics

Flatplan is a service for creating interior design projects. While working on a project, Flatplan designers consult with specialists: they know how to make an apartment comfortable for playing sports, and an experienced one - how to arrange a study. In a joint project, we seek advice from experts from various fields.

This time, we asked restaurateur William Lamberti to talk about how to make the kitchen comfortable for cooking and relaxation.

Moscow restaurateur, chef and TV host. He worked in Milan, Naples, Florence and London.

1. Let more light into the kitchen

Cooking in a dark room is exhausting. Your eyes will get tired quickly if you cut fish or sort through rice in the dark.

It is good if the kitchen has large panoramic windows or an exit to the balcony. Do not close the windows with blackout curtains and do not put shelves for jars of jam on the balcony: the more light, the more spacious the kitchen seems.

Flatplan project "Jacques Clouseau": with a large window, even a kitchen in dark colors does not look gloomy

If the kitchen has a lot of sunlight, its size doesn't really matter. It is good to cook in it, even if it is tiny.

To visually enlarge the kitchen with artificial lighting, hang spotlights above the working area on the ceiling. The area for washing and cutting products can be additionally illuminated using LED strip or separate lamps under the cabinets.

2. Separate the cooking area from the dining area

The most important thing is to arrange the washing, storage and cooking areas so that everything is at hand. Together, these zones form a working triangle.

media.4living.ru

The ideal working triangle should be isosceles, with sides of at least one and a half meters. In life, this rarely happens, because modern apartments have very different kitchens.

  • In small or narrow long kitchens, a linear arrangement of furniture is recommended. There must be at least one empty countertop between the triangle zones.
  • In L- and L-shaped kitchens, it is better to place the sink in the corner, and the stove and refrigerator on opposite sides of it.

On the left is an example of a linear layout (Flatplan Jordan Belfort project). On the right is an example of an L-shaped layout (the Walter Mitty Flatplan project)

Even if you fail to fit the canonical working triangle into your kitchen, you need to separate the cooking area from the dining area. The cook should have their own territory, which does not need to be shared with family members who decide to eat.

3. Make the kitchen comfortable for socializing

All the most important conversations take place in the kitchen. When you have a large family or frequent guests, you most likely communicate while cooking. It is inconvenient to maintain a dialogue with your back to the interlocutor.

If the space allows, place an island or a bar counter in front of the kitchen set with the letter G. In a small kitchen, place the dining group not opposite the kitchen furniture, but slightly diagonally from it.

Advice from Flatplan

Now the concept of "open kitchen" is in trend. Make the kitchen as viewable as possible so you can chat and cook at the same time.

The dining table should be such that it is comfortable for everyone to come together at it. It is important that everyone can see and hear each other. For this, a round or oval table is better suited. If oblong, then without sharp corners. The dining area is best placed by the window.

4. Get rid of the cobweb of wires

There are a lot of appliances in the modern kitchen. Refrigerator, oven, dishwasher, extractor hood, blender, coffee maker - all this is connected to the network.

Sharp objects are constantly used in the kitchen and water is poured. Therefore, uncleaned wires, adapters and carriers are not only ugly, but also unsafe: you can stumble or get an electric shock.

It is better to think over where the switches will be and where you will put the kitchen appliances even at the planning stage. It is always better to calculate the number of outlets with a margin and make them at different points of the workspace.

Advice from Flatplan

When the outlets are conveniently located, wires will not intertwine or get in the way. Here is a diagram that will tell you exactly where to place the sockets in the kitchen.

If the number of extension cords is off scale, but there is no way to chisel the walls and make new sockets, collect the wires in special boxes or hide them in the baseboard and cable channels on the wall.

Advice from Flatplan

5. Avoid sharp corners

Imagine carrying a heavy hot saucepan to the sink, stumbling over a sharp corner of a cabinet or countertop. If this angle is sharp, serious injury could result. Therefore, it is better if all the corners in the kitchen are rounded. Especially for hanging cabinets and shelves.

6. Consider a storage system

The smaller the kitchen, the more efficiently you need to use its area. All elements should not only be in harmony with each other, but also be useful. At the design concept stage, think over the most convenient storage: where the dishes will lie, and where will the spices and food.

The problem with the clutter of the kitchen is solved by a well-thought-out storage system.

You can make a kitchen apron functional by hanging magnetic knife guides or rails on it to keep spices and small kitchen utensils close at hand and unload cabinets.

Advice from Flatplan

Covers from pots and pans, which take up a lot of space in cabinets, can be stored on the doors or the inner walls of the cabinets. At the same time, they will all be in sight - it is easier to find the one you need.

If you have a corner kitchen, then consider the so-called magic corner - a structure that will help increase the usable area of the cabinet. Instead of ordinary doors, it is better to choose roll-out mechanisms.

7. Hang a clock in the kitchen

We are used to looking at the time on a smartphone, and wall clocks in many homes are becoming an element of decor. But not in the kitchen: when your hands and everything around you are in flour, it is better to put your smartphone away. And in order not to overexpose the meringue in the oven and not to miss the boiling soup, hang a large clock with a second hand in a conspicuous place. So it will be convenient for you to time the time you need according to the recipe and keep track of how much time is left before the guests arrive.

Flatplan project "Chris Gardner" - an example of an interior with a clock

If you love making pies, and flowered curtains and carved cabinets bring tears of emotion to you, you will hardly be comfortable in a high-tech kitchen. Most likely, your option is country or provence.

The interior is part of the cooking process. Choose what you feel most comfortable around.

Regardless of the style, try to avoid overloaded facades and excessive eclecticism. Otherwise, even a clean kitchen will look cramped and cluttered.

Don't use many colors. It is better to choose three shades (two close to each other and one contrasting) and play with the whole interior with them.

Before starting the repair, everyone looks at magazines and Internet portals with examples of interiors. Sometimes it helps in choosing, but it can confuse someone. We offer our customers to take a test that reveals preferences in style and colors.

Advice from Flatplan

9. When equipping the kitchen, keep in mind the general style of the apartment.

To make the kitchen comfortable, its style should be in harmony with the appearance of the entire apartment as a whole. This does not mean that all rooms need to be finished with the same materials. It is enough to find some unifying decorative element.

Flatplan project "Amelie Poulin" - glossy kitchen facades are repeated in the bathroom.

10. If you find it uncomfortable to cook in your kitchen - do not suffer, but remake it

You can have the most ordinary cups and spoons, and instead of a tablecloth - a bright oilcloth. The food will not be less delicious from this. But for cooking to be a pleasant experience, the interior must be thoughtful. Even a small kitchen can be convenient.

The main thing in the kitchen is comfort. Everything should be done in such a way that cooking is not a hassle, and at dinner you can rest and relax. Flatplan will help you arrange your kitchen so that it is comfortable to cook, eat and receive guests in it. The price does not depend on the complexity of the project and the size of the apartment: for 29,900 rubles, you can get a ready-made flat plan of the entire room with drawings, estimates and tips for builders.

To get started, you need to pass a short test and choose the interior you like from the proposed selection. Flatplan adapts it to your wishes and apartment features. Then a designer will come, measure everything, and in a week you will have a detailed design project in your hands.

Want to make your kitchen even more comfortable? Then in this article you will find a lot of useful information for yourself. And photos of real kitchen interiors will help you understand the topic even more.

1. Warm tone of the walls.

Walls are primarily responsible for psychological comfort in the kitchen.

Colorists advise to select kitchen wall coverings in discreet warm tones:

  • pale pink;
  • light yellow;
  • brownish;
  • orange;
  • peach;
  • fawn.

Walls of these colors seem especially familiar. They pacify, relax, bring a sense of harmony and romantic lightness to home comfort. Against their background, pieces of furniture and original accessories stand out favorably.

Now it is fashionable to alternate wallpaper of similar shades on one wall. For example, yellow can be combined with fawn, orange with light brown. Such smooth overflows of tones will not create the effect of an “exploding rainbow”, but will add a touch of light energy to the general atmosphere of calm.

2. Cheerful curtains.

Well-chosen curtains are the key to kitchen design. Multi-layered long curtains made of dark and heavy material have no place in the kitchen. They look hard, unhygienic and impractical.

Here you need light, airy, translucent curtains to the windowsill. The color of the curtains should match the tone of the walls.

It is best to give preference to lightweight fabrics:

  • chintz;
  • tulle;
  • guipure;
  • silk.

Decorated with a lambrequin or an arch, interestingly draped, window decor will look aesthetically pleasing and cheer up.

Notes of frivolity and joy will bring curtains in polka dots or flowers. Curtains with animations, butterflies, birds will add carelessness and playfulness to the kitchen interior.

Color-contrasting finishing elements will look playful on plain curtains:

  • ruffles;
  • bows;
  • lace;
  • application;
  • embroidery.

But all these decorations should be delicate and light, so as not to "burden" the overall impression of the curtains.

3. Cozy yellow light.

The yellow color of the lamp is the most favorable for the kitchen. It increases appetite, improves digestion, improves mood, stimulates to work. Yellow lighting is comfortable for the eyes: they do not get tired of it, but on the contrary, they relax after a busy day.

However, if possible, it's best to add a pair of yellow sconces to it. During evening gatherings, their delicate radiation in the dining area will be quite enough. You just need to make sure that additional light sources do not give glare.

An important role in the selection of a lighting device is played by its power. Therefore, the best solution for the kitchen would be a chandelier with a dimmer. This device will allow, depending on the situation and mood, to intensify or dim the intensity of the lighting.

4. New kitchen apron.

A kitchen apron can not only protect the wall, but also please the eye. The lack of decor on it or old faded pictures do not add a degree of mood. It is very easy to fix things and revive the kitchen.

It is enough to buy new original stickers on the market. Your imagination and taste will help you decide on the choice of images.

Their assortment is huge: panoramic views, landscapes, funny faces, motivating inscriptions, stylish ornaments.

The glass panel will be transformed after printing or engraving on it. To get a relief pattern, you can use the chemical etching method.

If there is no kitchen apron at all, a strip of colored kitchen oilcloth of medium thickness will fill the gap.

Stickers with the image of dishes, vegetables, fruits will update the facades of the cabinets. Self-adhesive foil will also serve as an effective decoration for kitchen furniture. True, given the fragility of this material, it will have to be changed annually.

6. Roof rails.

"Hangers" for kitchen utensils are worthy of attention of the hostess inclined to organization. With the help of convenient tubes and boards, you can compactly place mugs, spoons, knives, ladles, jars of spices.

All this is hung on hooks or fastening holders. Railing systems are installed above the stove, along the edge of the working apron, above the sink.

7. Accessories

The comfort of the kitchen environment will be given by useful and at the same time spectacular little things:

  • Mitten in tandem with an oven mitt.
  • A set of painted trays.
  • Cutting boards of various sizes and configurations.
  • A set of plastic, tin or glass jars for storing pasta, sugar, salt, cereals, spices, tea, coffee.
  • Unusual shapes of sugar bowl, butter dish, pepper bowl.
  • Silicone wipes imitating various types of fruit in a cut.
  • Cork coasters for cups with hot drinks.

Thanks to the original design of these fun organizers, everyday cooking, like receiving it, turns into a holiday.

A lot of interesting products will help to emphasize the individuality and completeness of the interior:

  • Glass multistage or ornate metal shelves.
  • Paintings and panels depicting still lifes or landscapes.
  • Entourage dishes made of ceramics, wood, phosphorus, glass (wall plates, vases for fruits and flowers, candy bowls, cup holders, jugs), wicker baskets.
  • Figurines depicting domestic animals (cows, pigs, chickens), vegetables, fruits.
  • Candlesticks in the shape of a tree or a flower.

When choosing these jewelry, you need to follow a sense of proportion and style. The main thing here is not to overdo it and maintain a balance so that the decor does not acquire a mosaic chaos.

9. Soft corner

The daytime recreation area - a sofa complex, a banquet, a bench or a bench - contributes to the comfort of the kitchen environment. It is best to order a seating area in accordance with the dimensions of the room and the chosen interior style.

For convenience, you can ask the craftsmen to make a folding type structure. It is also desirable that there is a niche for things under the upper berth.

10. Indoor flowers

Green "inhabitants" of the kitchen moisturize and refresh the air, make the room beautiful and habitable. Some of them, such as ivy or tropical vines, are placed on the very top of a kitchen unit or in a planter and used for vertical gardening.

A place on the windowsill is usually provided for more capricious flowers that need sunlight: orchid, Chinese rose, geranium, hyacinth, violet. For this, the plants thank the owners with blossoming buds. Tradescantia and begonia are not afraid of open vents and drafts.

The larger the kitchen, the more appropriate large-sized plants are in it. In a spacious room, you can arrange a real blooming oasis by planting hibiscus, palm, lemon tree, ficus in tubs. The dining table can also be decorated with a flower, but only the smallest and healthiest one.

11. Mini-vegetable garden on the windowsill.

The kitchen is the most suitable place for growing healthy herbs: basil, parsley, dill, thyme, watercress, mint, green onions. It's so cute, so comfortable, so feminine! Many of these herbs do not need soil: they can be planted in containers with water or special hydropots.

The main purpose of the kitchen is cooking. However, due to the very modest parameters of the premises in modern apartments, this room also becomes a dining room. That is why more and more common people began to think especially carefully about the convenient design of the kitchen.

How to make the kitchen interior functional and comfortable?

To make the room really cozy, you should pay attention to criteria such as:

  • comfort;
  • ergonomics;
  • modernity;
  • innovation.

In fact, the comfortable interior of a modern kitchen primarily involves the use of a variety of types of household appliances. Since there are a lot of devices that help to manage the household and cook food, they will need to be comfortably placed.

The best option for creating beautiful and practical kitchens is to use functional built-in models. Hoods, refrigerators, hobs, food processors, ovens, dishwashers are becoming an extension of furniture. Since the equipment is built into the composition even during the design process of the combination, and is not purchased separately, which leads to the "adjustment" of the parameters, a very comfortable kitchen is obtained.

The photo clearly shows how stylish, aesthetically attractive and working the room turns out to be. This solution fits perfectly into any size of space. Both miniature and spacious kitchens are very convenient due to this technique.

Design principles for a "working" kitchen

What are the other principles for creating the most functional space? The most practical rooms are obtained by placing the refrigerator, stove and sink as close as possible. For a comfortable kitchen, it is very important to place these items so that the hostess is not forced to run around the room, wasting precious minutes in vain.

It should be noted that in order to create the most practical and functional space, it is recommended to choose a corner sink. It not only effectively and organically fits into the interior of kitchens of almost any style. This solution significantly saves space. That is why such models are often chosen for small rooms.

Under the corner sink, among other things, a lot of free space is created, which can be used to store various useful little things. The most comfortable kitchen interior is created by such innovative solutions that make the room design ergonomic and modern.

What else should be taken into account when designing this room? Today kitchens should not only be cozy and beautiful. The main requirement put forward to them is comfort. Regardless of the size, any room with a properly designed interior becomes "working". To do this, you will need to provide:

  • the use of cabinets that match the height of the hostess;
  • correct location of the desktop surface;
  • the presence of a hood;
  • creating conditions for cooking while sitting.

Little tricks

For the kitchen to be the most convenient and functional, it is imperative to equip it with an extractor hood. As you can see in the photo, it is recommended to install the device under the ceiling above the stove. This solution will eliminate the mixing of cooking odors.

What is a modern comfortable kitchen? It is also an opportunity to cook while sitting. Such a comfortable space is created by equipment in the room with a pull-out board and a chair that can be adjusted in height. As for the placement of the desktop, its device will be optimal at a level of 15 cm below the arm, which bends at the elbow at an angle of 90 degrees.

A beautiful, modern, stylish kitchen interior is also a competent location of the dining area. If the space of the apartment does not allow equipping an autonomous dining room, you will have to correctly approach the issue of arranging furniture. The dining table should be located separately from the working area, cabinets, shelves. The photo shows how you can do this in order to get a harmonious and ergonomic space.

What materials to use?

The issue of using materials that are used for comfortable and aesthetically pleasing kitchens deserves special attention. To make the interior of the room stylish, modern and cozy, it is worth giving preference to versions in which the facade is made of.

A tiny kitchen is a problem for any small apartment. I don't even want to think about design: what kind of style is there, if there is nowhere to shove grandmother's closet and grandfather's table? The best thing is to go to an antique shop. It's worth starting with this: get rid of the unnecessary.

Functionality first of all, or how to enlarge the kitchen in fact

The kitchen space has an aggressive specificity. High temperatures, grease, soot, humidity. It is necessary to select a finish that is resistant to harmful factors, not too easily soiled and easily washable / washable. In no case should there be materials containing toxic components: food is being prepared in the kitchen.

How to enlarge the kitchen visually

The two main factors that “eat up” the space visually are dark or too bright colors and clutter. Let's see what color combinations are applicable in the interior of the kitchen.

  • Light pastel colors tend to visually enlarge the room. If the windows face north, warm shades are recommended: sand, beige, cream. In the sunny kitchen, you can stay on cool colors: blue, turquoise. They are associated with the sea, in the summer heat they will create a feeling of coolness. To prevent the light interior from looking monotonously boring, bright or dark details are added.
  • More light. Many spotlights are both beautiful and convenient for the hostess. You can use LED backlighting. Choose polished furniture - the kitchen will "expand" with reflections and reflections.
  • If there is no door between the kitchen and the living room, it makes sense to finish the walls in the same way: the same paint, wallpaper, panels.
  • Any textiles (curtains, tablecloth, upholstery) are light. Pastel colors, soft ornament. It is undesirable to use a catchy drawing or pattern. Excessive decor overloads the space. A printed pattern is not worth using - it looks heavy. Better textured.
  • You should not use more than two colors in the design of the room: the variegation will get on your nerves. You can use relief ornaments of the main color instead of contrasting colors.
  • The same wishes for furniture: light. Alternatively, transparent. Glass shelves, cabinets, table, chairs.
  • Hang a mirror on the wall or make mirrored doors near the shelves. Place the glass on the table in the shape of the table top. A not very bulky crystal chandelier will also contribute to the visual expansion of the space.
  • It is not recommended to replace large pieces of furniture with a large number of small ones. The kitchen will look cluttered. It is advisable to use furniture that is elongated in height: this way you can "raise" the ceiling.
  • If you plan to hang a panel, picture, photo on the wall, it is better to do it lower or higher than it is customary. And not in the center, but to the side. Placing two images on top of each other makes the wall appear taller.
  • Accessories: two or three eye-catching items that will enliven the room. Do not need anymore.
  • It is not recommended to put overgrown indoor plants or lush bouquets of flowers in the kitchen.
  • It is better to make the floors the same throughout the apartment. The use of different coatings will zone the space, and this should be avoided. When laying tiles or laminate, a diagonal pattern is recommended, this is also a way to expand the area visually.
  • It is recommended to hang the cornice over the window or use the ceiling: this will make the room visually higher.
  • If the apartment is small and the ceilings are high, it makes sense to lower them in order to achieve harmony. You can install a multi-level stretch ceiling. The upper level is with photo printing (for example, an image of a blue sky with clouds).
  • What if the kitchen is also a dining room? Decorate the kitchen and dining areas in the same style, but with some differences. This will eliminate the need to install unnecessary partitions.

    Choosing a style for a small kitchen

    The most stylish is white. You can use not snow-white, but with shades: light cream, ivory, milky. A few contrasting elements will add originality and sophistication to the interior.

    Tiled and ceramic tiles. She does not need to lay out all the walls, this is a kitchen, not a pool. But two or three repetitions of the pattern in several elements (apron, countertop, window sill, window slopes) will look stylish. You should not use a panel with a complex detailed drawing. It is better to choose light floral or abstract ornaments, stylized images.

    Most styles are painlessly applied in a small kitchen:

    What styles are undesirable in a small room?

    • Baroque. Pompous aristocratic design of the 17th and 18th centuries. Gilding, columns, heavy massive furniture, a lot of expensive textiles. The kitchen turns into a museum reserve.
    • Victorian. He's royal, named after Queen Victoria. Eclecticism, luxury, excess of decor. Congestion.
    • Gothic. Gloomy red and black colors will turn a tiny room into a crypt, cellar or torture chamber. The gothic effect will be achieved, but can you, your family and guests comfortably exist in such a kitchen?

    But what if the rest of the interior of an apartment or house is decorated in one of these styles? You can't make all the rooms in one style, and the kitchen in another.

    One of the options for solving this problem has already been proposed above: redevelopment, combining the kitchen with the living room. The room will become spacious, and the slight contrast in the design of two different zones will not seem superfluous.

    What design techniques can be used without leaving the stylistic unity without redevelopment?

    For gothic

    • Stained glass on cabinet doors and sliding partitions;
    • Carved and forged elements in the decoration of furniture and accessories;
    • Crystal: chandelier, vases, glasses.

    For Victorian

    • Do not use drawers, in that era there were practically none. Only opening doors;
    • Materials of the era: marble countertops, glass cabinets;
    • Lighting: it is undesirable to give up the chandelier. Install sconces instead of spotlights;
    • Floor covering: It may seem strange, but linoleum was born then. You will not get away from the style if you lay it down. Plus it's cheap, practical, and easy to clean.

    For baroque

    • Stucco molding. It is not worth using in large quantities, but you can use, for example, white polyurethane foam skirting boards for the ceiling;
    • Gilded ornaments for facades;
    • Twisted handles;
    • Patina: gold, silver;
    • Marble, quartz, glass;
    • Stretch ceiling with photo printing in the form of a fresco.

    The Baroque style is focused primarily on light colors. Using ivory or coffee with milk in the design, you will not leave the chosen era.

    Any kitchen, even the smallest one, can be comfortable, functional and stylish at the same time. This will require:

    • Willingness to part with old things and habits;
    • Preference for multifunctional equipment;
    • The predominance of light colors, shiny and glass surfaces;
    • Maximum lighting;
    • Stylistic flair or advice from a professional designer;
    • Flight of imagination and desire to start a new life.

    Unfortunately, money will be required too. In one amount or another. Without them, alas, nowhere.

    If space permits, you can put vegetables in baskets and baskets in crates. The baskets can be removed at any time.

    It should be remembered that not all vegetables keep well in warm conditions, therefore, do not make too large cabinets and store large quantities of vegetables.
