Post repair procedures

All VAZ 2114 cars are equipped with headlight units in front, which are equipped with a light direction corrector. The arising problems with low beam are most often associated with reasons that you can eliminate yourself.

Lamp failure and replacement

Halogen lamps with two filaments located in one housing are installed in the car. One of them is responsible for the high beam, the other for the low beam. To make sure that the reason for the lack of light lies precisely in the lamp, it is enough to change it to a known good one. To do this, find the cover under the hood that covers the headlight unit. Turn it clockwise to open. Next, you will see a three-pin connector that needs to be removed. Now it remains to remove the lamp, moving the spring clips aside. Do not forget that the new lighting element must not be taken by the glass - greasy marks will impair heat transfer and the lamp will quickly fail. Therefore, take it by the contacts, insert it into the grooves, put on the spring clips and close the cover by turning it counterclockwise. When replacing the lamp, pay attention to the contacts in the connector - they should not be oxidized.

Malfunction of fuses, wires and switch

Another, no less common reason is a blown fuse. It is located in the corresponding block located under the hood, on the left side (in the direction of the vehicle), closer to the windshield. Open the black cover and find the desired fuse - in VAZ2114 these are F12 (right headlight) and F13 (left headlight). Both fuses are 7.5 amps. To ensure their integrity, turn the details into the light: whole threads should be visible. If they are missing, the fuse (s) must be replaced. If these elements are intact, but there is still no light, it makes sense to check the relay along the way; it is designated as K9. It is necessary to pull it out and put in a known working part (you can use the K8 high beam relay to check).

Poorly connected or oxidized wires can also cause no light. To make sure that the wiring is working properly, you can disconnect the pads and look at the internal contacts: they should be free of green patches. By the way, a bad or oxidized contact can cause a permanent blown fuse (the same problem is caused by a short circuit in the wire). Least of all, the dipped beam does not light up due to a faulty push button switch. You can simply pull it out and also replace it with a known good one.

The version about every fifth accident, due to a poor view of the road, has the right to live.

The view of the track at night depends on the quality of the light

Definitely, the quality of light is the viewing range of the track. Behind it all is reflector and diffuser in the lighting unit.

Vaz-2114 is equipped with a BOSCH instrument cluster, the directional light beam of which is incomparable with the previous domestic counterparts.

Which modification is better?

H4 halogen lamps installed on the VAZ-2114 are divided into:

  1. Standard.
  2. Amplified light beam.
  3. Improved visual overview.
  4. Weatherproof.
  5. Increased power.

They are two filaments of near and far lighting. The best among them are 60 / 55W lamps..

Standard

H4 standard bulb

Such lamps are mounted on every car of this VAZ model.

Lamp of enhanced light flux

Lamp of enhanced light flux + 30%

Improved visual visibility

Illuminate with white light familiar to the eye. Consuming the usual 55 watts, the light is brighter, despite the bluish tint of the bulb.

Provide an excellent light background on a snowy and dry road. On wet roads it is better to use yellow fog lights. Do not dazzle oncoming cars. The service life of those does not differ from the standard ones, despite the overpriced... Manufacturers prefer lamps with a yellow or bluish tint.

Weatherproof

Yellow all weather lamp

Special spraying of a yellowish tint is made on the lamps, which allows the light to achieve the contrast of the terrain in bad weather, especially cloudy (foggy). Yellow light is less reflective.

Increased power

They are in demand among owners who do not really own the "subject of dispute".

The manufacturer does not equip the VAZ-2114 with powerful lamps and does not recommend it, since this is due to the mandatory overheating and melting of wires, contacts, headlight reflector.

A high-power lamp leads to consequences with blinding of an oncoming car and an accident.

Choosing a lamp for a VAZ-2114 by manufacturer and brand

Bulb type - H4. In one lamp, both high and low beam are combined.

Based on the two components of the headlamp design, the lamp is selected at the discretion of the driver. The essence of the H4 lamp, which consists of two filaments, has not changed. An incandescent halogen lamp differs in that the bulb is saturated with bromine or iodine vapor.

The flask is made of quartz glass. This increases the service life, the limiting temperature of the filament. At the same time, the brightness of the head lighting rises, which is the most attractive factor in the popularity of the product.

The range of H4 halogen is focused on quality lighting, among which lamps with increased luminous efficiency are distinguished.

In accordance with European safety requirements, products meet the best performance:

OSRAMCOOLBLUEINTENCE , during the tests, no deviations in the consumption of electrical energy were noted. The dipped and main beams comply with GOST. Does not blind the drivers of oncoming, passing traffic.

Due to the use of 80 W power, the superiority remained with the company IPFSUPERDEAM, but at long distance the illumination was only 70 meters.

Leaving the confidence left behind NARVA H4 RANGE POWER with excellent results for both modes.

Lamp KOITO WHITE from a Japanese manufacturer, showing high-quality light output, does not affect the technical condition of the wiring, other elements of the headlight. Together with excellent light flux contours, it provides low and high beam illumination area. The functionality extends to the coverage angle and path shadow boundary. The glare protection factor of oncoming cars is also an essential advantage of the device.

HID Xenon Lamps

Lamps equipped with xenon are three times brighter than conventional lamps... They last ten times longer. Efficient in power consumption, almost twice, which allows the generator to work in a sparing mode, saving the engine resource. Serious disadvantage the inability of xenon to a circuit designed for halogen lamps is considered.

Halogen

Advantages in increased luminous efficiency, choice of color, long service life, encompassing road visibility with coverage of the shoulder.

disadvantages- high heating temperature of the bulb, poor quality of the lamp, not economical in energy consumption, the need for additional service.

Video about choosing lamps

According to the traffic rules, when driving on the highway in the autumn-winter period, even in the daytime, you need to turn on the dipped beam. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the performance of the car's lighting devices and change the lamps in time so that an emergency does not arise on the road. In this article, we will look at how the dipped beam lamp is replaced with a VAZ 2114, and we will also get acquainted with some malfunctions of the lighting system and how to fix them.

So, if the low beam on the VAZ 2114 does not work, then, most likely, the reason lies in a burned out lamp. This most often happens if the replacement of lighting elements has been performed for a long time. Although, new lamps often burn out, which is associated with a large number of low-quality products on the auto parts market.

Of course, before replacing a light bulb, you will first have to face its choice. On a VAZ 2114 car, two-filament paws of the H4 standard are used, which are responsible not only for near, but also for distant lighting.

Advice!
If the lamp burns out on the road, instead of the dipped headlights on the 2114, you can turn on the fog lights, if they are available, of course.

The lamps on the market may differ in the principle of operation, on which many of their characteristics depend. Below we will take a closer look at all their types:

Lamp type Peculiarities
Halogen Currently, they are the most common.

Among the advantages of halogen bulbs are such points as:

  • Low price;
  • Do not require the installation of additional equipment;
  • They illuminate the road well in fog, rain and snow.

Among the shortcomings, one can single out the fragility, as well as the relatively low power of the luminous flux - no more than 1550 lm.

Xenon (gas discharge) Provide a more powerful luminous flux - up to 3300 lm.

In addition, they have other advantages:

  • Are more durable;
  • They are distinguished by a white or bluish glow, as close as possible to daylight.

However, along with the advantages, they also have disadvantages, which include:

  • High price;
  • The need to install ignition units;
  • Turn on with a slight delay;
  • Poorly lit the road in wet weather.
LED They are a new type of lighting elements. Their advantages include durability and low power consumption. As for the power of the luminous flux, it is somewhat inferior to xenon.

LED lighting elements are also quite expensive and need to be installed with ignition blocks, which is a disadvantage.

Note!
It is advisable to change lamps in pairs, as this will provide the same luminous flux from the left and right headlights.
In addition, they have almost the same durability, so if, for example, the left headlight bulb fails, for example, the right one will probably stop burning soon.

Replacement procedure

Replacing a low beam bulb with a VAZ 2114 (it is also a high beam) is carried out in the following sequence:

  • First of all, you need to open the hood and loosen the screws (3) that fix the casing (4).

  • Then you need to press down and remove the tendrils of the spring (3) from the grooves.
  • Next, pull out the block (4) along with the old light bulb.
  • After that, you need to push the lamp (5) and turn it, after which it can be easily removed from the socket.
  • In place of the old bulb, you should install a new one, and then assemble the headlamp in the reverse order.

Note!
It is necessary to carry out the above work with gloves so as not to leave grease stains on the glass flask.
If you touched the flask with your hands, fingerprints must be carefully removed with alcohol.
Otherwise, the light bulb may burn out quickly.

Here, in fact, is all the instructions for replacing a light bulb. The lighting element in the second headlamp should be replaced in the same way.

Common malfunctions and their elimination

If, after replacing the bulbs, the dipped beam on the VAZ 2114 still does not light up, then there may be several reasons for this:

  • Defective fuses;
  • Faulty headlight switch button;
  • Broken wiring.

Below is a look at how to troubleshoot these problems.

Replacing fuses

Fuses are located in a special block, which is located on the left side near the windshield. To replace them with your own hands, you need to open the plastic cover and find the fuses F12 (responsible for the left headlight) and F13 (responsible for the right headlight).

If the light comes on after replacing the fuses, you must leave it on for a while to make sure that the new fuses do not blow. If they melted quickly, you need to look.

Note!
In no case should the contacts in the fuse box be closed directly, as this can lead to more serious electrical malfunctions or even a fire in the wiring.

Button replacement

If replacing the fuses does not solve the problem, you need to "ring" all the electricians related to the work of the headlights. Of course, this will require a low beam wiring diagram for the VAZ 2114 and a special device (multimeter).

In the photo - a double button for switching headlights

Often the problem lies in the button. In this case, replacing the low beam switch on the VAZ 2114 will help to solve the problem.

It is done quite simply:

  • First of all, it should be noted that the low-beam button on the VAZ 2114 is doubled with the high-beam button. To pull out this block, you need to pick it up, for example, with a knife. The operation must be performed carefully so as not to scratch the panel.
  • Next, you need to disconnect the block from the old button and connect to the new one.
  • Then the new switching unit must be installed in place.

Advice!
When replacing a button, you can immediately install a key backlight diode, which for some reason is not provided by the factory.
Such a refinement of the low beam button on the VAZ 2114 will allow you to see when the low beam is on and when it is off, which is very convenient in the daytime.

If the button is operational and, most likely, the relay is faulty (in the diagram - K9), which needs to be replaced with a new one.

Output

Problems in the operation of the dipped beam are a common situation for the VAZ 2114. As a rule, they are caused by burnout of lamps, however, sometimes other electrical equipment units also fail. But, in any case, it is quite possible to eliminate the malfunction on your own.

Sooner or later, every driver faces the question of choosing a head light element. As a rule, these are h4 lamps with a kind of base. The most common option is h4 halogen bulbs, and their popularity is due to a number of advantages.

WHY CHOOSE HALOGEN

When it comes to replacing any parts, car enthusiasts are looking at price first. The cost of replaceable elements began to play an even greater role; in the conditions of the crisis, expensive brands also began to enjoy less and less demand. However, almost every manufacturer produces halogen-based models that belong to the budget category and are much cheaper.

Energy consumption also plays an important role. This is where halogen is the perfect choice. In this case, it turns out that you can save not only money, but also battery power. This reduces the risk of being left without a car in the morning if you forgot to turn off the headlights in the evening. That is why halogen bulbs are often the choice of a sophisticated driver.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

In fact, an h4 halogen lamp, this is an ordinary incandescent light bulb. However, there are still some differences. During production, halogen vapors (usually bromine or iodine) are added to the flask. As a result, the service life is increased and it becomes possible to increase the limiting temperature of the spirals. At the same time, the brightness increases significantly, which makes them such an attractive option when choosing lighting elements.

Halogen bulbs used in the automotive industry have no drawbacks, as only the use of AC power can reveal a minor drawback (low frequency noise when used with a dimmer).

The principle of operation itself allows the production of small bulbs, since the tungsten deposit does not remain on the bulb. The thing is that, by reacting with halogens, it either burns out or returns to the spiral (which makes it possible to increase the temperature).

There are also relatively new IRC halogen models. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that the bulb has a coating that reflects infrared radiation inside the bulb. This significantly reduces energy consumption and nearly doubles the lifespan.

Thus, having a number of advantages, halogen is gradually replacing conventional incandescent bulbs from the market. Low cost and high efficiency, along with durability, make them the best selling in the world.

WHY WE NEED ALL-WEATHER MODELS

There are several types of lamps, one of which is all-weather. The key feature of this type is that a special coating is applied to the inner wall of the flask during manufacture, which has interference properties, which gives the light a yellowish tint. This is to improve the contrast of the illuminated area, especially during bad weather. For example, the light of an ordinary light bulb h4 is strongly reflected from falling raindrops, which often blinds the driver, interfering with the view. Yellowish light is less reflective and less irritating to the eye when reflected, which is more beneficial for driving in bad weather.

In addition, a car with h4 all-weather lamps is more noticeable on the road, both in fog and in pouring rain, which significantly reduces the likelihood of a traffic accident.

Safety is a top priority for all weather models.

The most common types, as shown by the h4 lamp test, are:

  • IPF H4 Superbeam,
  • GENERAL ELECTRIC H4 AllDay,
  • PHILIPS H4 Weather Vision,
  • NARVA H4 Azzurro.

The brightest h4 bulbs listed are PHILIPS H4 Weather Vision and GENERAL ELECTRIC H4 AllDay. They show the best result among all-weather ones, however, they are much more expensive. All of them are bright enough, but it's up to you to decide which h4 bulbs are best. It all depends on individual requirements.

TEST AND COMPARISON OF MODELS WITH INCREASED LIGHT EFFICIENCY

Safety is our everything. With frequent driving in the dark, you need to take care of good lighting. Special samples of increased light output come to the rescue in such a situation. Manufacturers offer many options, but we'll look at the most notable ones:

  • Koito VWhite showed good results when tested. Full compliance with European safety standards. This sample will not damage the car's wiring and will perform well under lighting. The luminous flux fully complies with GOST, showing a result of 1500 lm for high beam and 930 lm for low beam.

The excellent geometry of the light beam is also an important advantage of this model. It will not dazzle drivers in the oncoming lane, the control point fully complies with all rules and regulations. The lamp perfectly illuminates the areas of the near and far curbs.

Bottom line: High light output and high illumination angle are undoubtedly big advantages. Clear cut-off lines and protection against glare from oncoming traffic are good functionality for its price category. There is only one drawback, and it is not essential - all the inscriptions are in Japanese.

  • GE MegaLight Ultr a not that very good, but still worth the money. No harm to the wiring, energy consumption is within acceptable limits. The luminous flux in this case is 995 at low beam and 1520 at high beam. These parameters are within the permissible limits of GOST, although slightly lower than the recommended ones.

The cut-off test passed, though not perfect. A dark spot in the right corner of the upper zone and just above and to the right of the control line, notably spoil the picture. This does not greatly affect the illumination, but it is unpleasant.

For drivers driving in the oncoming lane, the light of this model is not safe, however, as well as for passing ones. At the control point, it shows 1.05 lm, which is half the allowable value.

Bottom line: This sample does an excellent job of illuminating the near shoulder. Inconsistency with GOST and UNECE standards. You can use this model in principle, but other drivers may not like it.

  • Osram Cool Blue Intense a good option, but not the most reliable. When measuring the consumed electricity, no deviations from the permissible values were detected. The luminous flux is also good: 965 lm near, and far 1655 lm. These indicators meet the requirements of GOST.

Drivers, both driving nearby and those driving in the opposite lane, are not dazzled. All indicators comply with European standards. The roadsides will be well lit, even too much. They overdid it, the requirements were exceeded, but not by much.

Bottom line: Excellent light beam, and roadside lighting - the model is clearly worth the money. During the tests, several samples were used, one of which burned out - a trifle, but unpleasant. Democratic cost and good performance give it every chance of success.

Comparison of h4 lamps shows that the best result is shown by products from Japanese manufacturers. They are not only reliable, but also meet all the required standards. Without losing your own comfort, you do not interfere with other drivers on the highway and within the city. For example, the Koito VWhite lamp device produces the best test results. However, only you can decide which lamps to choose h4.

When choosing, you need to take into account everything, including your own requests. The question often arises - which low beam lamps are better than h4. Many drivers recommend OSRAM Cool Blue Intense 4200K as they have the best near-range performance. The h4 halogen lamp test showed the best result and full compliance with the requirements for this model.

HEADLAMP ADJUSTMENT

One of the most important road safety operations is headlight adjustment. Let's try to figure out how to adjust the headlights at home. The whole process is broken down into stages:

  1. First you need to mark the wall;
  2. Then mark up the bulbs;
  3. And the setting itself.

It is also necessary to check the serviceability of the suspension, and the distribution of the load.

First, you need to find a site for adjustment, where there is a flat vertical wall and a horizontal section in front of it, at least 8 meters. For marking, you can use anything: chalk, adhesive tape, paint (if the wall does not belong to anyone, of course).

In our case, the headlights are adjusted, but this is done in the same way for other models. The adjustment is generally the same.

Once everything is ready, you can start:

  1. It is necessary to drive up to the wall end-to-end, and then determine the center of the car and the central axes for each of the bulbs.
  2. Then drive back about 8 meters, leave the car and approach the wall. Now you need to connect the centers of the two bulbs with a solid line. Also, vertical lines need to be drawn through their centers, and the same should be done with the point where the center of the car is visually located.
  3. Turn on the low beam and start adjusting by tightening the adjusting bolts to obtain a perfect beam.
  4. There is no need to manually adjust the high beam, it will adjust automatically.

So it can be adjusted. When you reach the ideal setting, you will avoid dazzling drivers and get maximum illumination of the road ahead. Do not forget about the choice of a light bulb, this also plays an important role.

Follow all safety precautions when adjusting or replacing light bulbs. The conditions in which it is worth adjusting the headlights are usually described in the documentation for the car. Keep in mind that safe driving isn't all about lighting.

Lamps used in the car

Any modern car or truck can be serviced and repaired independently, in a regular garage. All that is required for this is a set of tools and a factory repair manual with a detailed (step-by-step) description of the operations. Such a manual should contain the types of operating fluids, oils and greases used, and most importantly, the tightening torques of all threaded connections of parts of vehicle units and assemblies. Italian cars - Fiat (Fiat) Alfa Romeo (Alfa Romeo) Lancia (Lancia) Ferrari (Ferrari) Mazerati (Maserati) have their own design features. Also in a special group you can highlight all French cars - Peugout (Peugeot), Renault (Renault) and Citroen (Citroen). German cars are complex. This is especially true for Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi and Porsche (Porsche), slightly less - to Volkswagen and Opel (Opel). The next large group, isolated by design features, are American manufacturers - Chrysler, Jeep, Plymouth, Dodge, Eagle, Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Ford, Mercury, Lincoln ... Of the Korean firms, it should be noted Hyundai / Kia, GM - DAT (Daewoo), SsangYong.

Most recently, Japanese cars were distinguished by a relatively low initial cost and affordable prices for spare parts, but recently they have caught up with prestigious European brands in terms of these indicators. Moreover, this applies to almost the same extent to all brands of cars from the land of the rising sun - Toyota (Toyota), Mitsubishi (Mitsubishi), Subaru (Subaru), Isuzu (Isuzu), Honda (Honda), Mazda (Mazda or, as they said before, Matsuda) , Suzuki (Suzuki), Daihatsu (Daihatsu), Nissan (Nissan). Well, the cars produced under the Japanese-American brands Lexus (Lexus), Scion (Scion), Infinity (Infinity),
