Installing platbands at 90 degrees with your own hands. How to install a trim on an interior door with your own hands: step-by-step instructions and photos. How to attach door frames

Therefore, before starting work, you need to decide on the method of how to attach the platbands. There are several fastening options: using special glue, screws, self-tapping screws or ordinary nails.

Platbands can be attached in several ways

Platbands have two main functions:

  1. After installation, conceal the gap formed between the door frame and the wall.
  2. Additional, giving a finished look and allowing you to tie the doors to the main decor of the room.

Modern industry produces platbands various shapes and designs, with a huge selection of materials for their manufacture. It can be plastic, veneer or MDF. You must choose platbands that match the texture of the door leaf, required width and color to match the door. It is also important that the current market for platbands offers simple and carved, figured and rounded ones. Your choice will play a role in the final decoration of the door.

A person who is installing doors himself for the first time needs to know that when purchasing, he must check the package contents. Many sellers announce the price of the box and the canvas, already implying that you will have to buy the platbands separately. Therefore, this issue needs to be discussed, immediately selecting the necessary colors and widths.

Platbands should be selected immediately when purchasing doors

Typically, standard platbands have the following parameters: width - 7 cm, height -210 cm, thickness - 1 cm. You need to know that they are double door You will need 6 strips, and for a single-leaf door - 5 pieces. If you need to frame an opening, you can get by with two and a half slats.

Proper assembly will allow you to hide fasteners and will give the structure a completed look. If the work is done carelessly, unsightly cracks and gaps may remain and your doors will look untidy.

If you need to save money on renovations, try making the trim yourself at home. To find out how to make a platband with your own hands, you need to read the relevant literature. It will also be important to have at least a little experience in handling them.

List of tools required for woodworking:

  • sawmill where you can make blanks;
  • a jointer that allows you to create right angles;
  • thicknesser to give the workpiece the required thickness;
  • electric;
  • vertical router for cutting out designs: you can get by by making the trim simple;
  • pencil, ruler, square.

Correct selection of material

An important factor is. You should only take boards that are well dried, otherwise you risk having clumsy trim after a while. Tap the board with your finger: a dry board makes a ringing sound. Focus your attention on color: the board should have a uniform color scheme and no knots. Firstly, such cashing does not have much aesthetic appearance; secondly, there is a risk that it will break in this very place.

Manufacturing process

If you have stocked up on the necessary tools and building materials, then you can begin the process. First you need to make the required measurements in order to. Then you should first carry out rough grinding, and then process it with fine-grained sandpaper. Cover with a protective layer.

How to attach

One of the most widely used methods is fastening using nails. For this purpose, nails with a flat small head, which fit 1.5–2 cm into the box, are suitable. It is recommended to place the nails approximately 50 cm apart.

Simple and quick way how to attach the trim - this is the use liquid nails. Everything here is extremely simple: it is applied and pressed against the wall.

You can use self-tapping screws 2–2.5 cm long and 6 mm in diameter. To ensure that the cap is not very noticeable, the screws are “recessed” a little into the wood.

You can use special fasteners for platbands - “beaks”; they are easy to use, but are not suitable for products made from MDF.

Fastening process

  • Place the trim along the height of the opening to measure the required length. Then put it on and mark a right angle. Cut off the excess.
  • Align the trim with the finished corner along the edges and bottom. Mark the height equal to inner corner door frame.
  • Using a protractor, measure an angle of 45 degrees from the selected mark and mark it. The excess is cut off and can be put aside for a while.
  • Precisely following the order, we make the casing for the parallel side in the same way.

Platband – required decorative element any door. You will learn the rules and secrets of its installation.

The platband on the interior door is designed to perform an exclusively aesthetic function, closing the space between the walls and the door frame. Competently installed structure helps to hide any defects that may appear during door installation, and also gives doorway finished look. Be sure to read: .

Fastening the platbands is not a difficult job, but it requires precision and accuracy from the performer. the right approach to the choice of material and installation nuances.

Trimming the corner of the platband

A miter box (a special groove with slots that help determine the angle) can also be a good assistant in precise cutting.

Even if you have everything at hand necessary tools, trimming the platband without basic knowledge of geometry will be quite difficult. The sequence of actions should take place in the following order:

  1. The length of the door is measured on the platband and, using building level, a perpendicular line is drawn. The second perpendicular line is drawn parallel, at a distance of the width of the upper casing. As a result, an exact rectangle is formed on the platband.
  2. A diagonal is drawn in the resulting rectangle, dividing it into two triangles. The main thing is not to make a mistake and draw the diagonal in the right direction. Its origin must be at top corner doors and go to the ceiling. The same principle is used to mark the second vertical platband. The horizontal casing will differ from the vertical ones only in the undercuts on both sides.
  3. Trimming begins strictly along the drawn lines. If the work is carried out with a jigsaw, then it is advisable that the cut be made in one approach. When using a hacksaw, you should choose an option with a fine tooth to avoid chipping the decorative coating.

Types of platbands and their installation

Platbands can be classified into several groups according to the type of material from which they are made:

  • Tree. The advantage of wooden platbands is their environmental friendliness and durability, as well as the ability to buy them with a carved pattern;
  • MDF. Economical option, nose good characteristics. Such platbands are practical and durable, they are less susceptible to deformation from moisture;
  • Plastic or PVC. Plastic structures most often used in rooms with high humidity. They are easy to care for and durable in use. It is possible to lay wiring inside the casing;

Installation of the platband always starts from the side in which the door opens. This is explained by the fact that due to door hinges installing the platband at the same level as the door frame is problematic. Mostly, but always, because you can use .

The platband here is installed with a slight indentation, on both sides of the door, so that the structure looks symmetrical.

WITH reverse side The door frame structure is installed without any indentations.

To secure elements, experts recommend using only nails. Copper-plated fasteners can be an excellent option, since their caps, darkened over time, will be almost invisible against the background of the platbands. In cases where the structure is light, the caps are removed with wire cutters or galvanized nails are used.

Liquid nails are only applicable on perfectly flat wall surfaces, and if dismantling is necessary, the structure will simply have to be broken.

Plastic platbands are most often glued. They do not require a perfectly leveled wall surface, and their affordable cost makes it easy to part with them when dismantling. In addition, they are so plastic that they themselves can perfectly lie on some irregularities, hiding them.

Laminated trims differ little from wooden ones, but their installation requires a special approach. Using nails right away in this case is risky - the material may be damaged. To begin with, holes for nails are drilled in the laminated trim, and only then can you begin fastening.

Installation of platbands always begins with the side and top element of the interior door. Second side panel attaches last.

Helpful hints

At the initial stage, it is advisable to simply attach the planks with a couple of nails without hammering them in completely. One nail is driven in at the base, the second - closer to the middle of the plank. The horizontal strip is attached using the same principle, but nails are driven into it along the edges.

Having installed the entire three platbands in this way, you can proceed to adjusting their location by lightly tapping the sides with a hammer. If there are gaps between the planks, carefully pulling out one nail can reinstall the plank more tightly.

Once the adjustments are complete, you can begin capital fastening the entire structure. The choice of pitch of fastening nails should be guided by the level of load when operating interior doors. If the door experiences increased loads, the fastening step is on average from 15 to 20 centimeters. If the door is rarely used, the step can reach half a meter.

Before starting work with platbands, you should take measurements of all doorways in the house, and then start installation with the largest of them. With this approach, if any of the actions turn out to be incorrect and the slats are cut to the wrong size, then the remaining slats from a large opening can always be adjusted to the size of a small interior door.

In cases where the joining of the platbands, despite all the efforts, did not go perfectly and small gaps still remain, the solution will be to purchase a wax pencil for the interior door. It won’t be difficult to find it; it is sold in any hardware store. Wax pencils are sold in a wide range of colors, so you can choose the one you need. It rubs in easily, removing traces of chips and hiding the heads of furniture nails.

Compliance technological methods and a thorough approach to each stage of installing platbands on interior doors will definitely lead to results that will delight you for many years.

Installing platbands on the doors allows you to give the entrance space an aesthetic appearance - this finishing touch installation The process itself is very labor-intensive and must be carried out scrupulously, but this work can be done with one’s own hands by almost every person who has minimal skills in working with woodworking tools. How to install trim on doors without much difficulty with your own hands? Just. It is important to stick to the basic rules.

The choice of platband material and features of its installation

The platband itself for interior doors is a decorative part of the completion of the opening, covering installation seam and protecting insulating materials from contact with ultraviolet radiation. It is made from various materials, which are selected in accordance with the overall design of the door and room.

The installation of this unit is very similar to the installation of skirting boards and cornices - it sums up the work done.

Correct installation has a very great importance and varies somewhat depending on the material used.
Modern industry produces the following types of platbands for interior doors:

  • Wooden frames are made either from a single piece of wood or from gluing it together. Such platbands can be nailed to the door frame, either with ordinary nails without heads, or glued to “liquid nails”. This type of glue is best used when there is an ideal wall.
  • It is better to attach plastic trims with glue. The cost of such platbands is very small, which allows them to be dismantled, if necessary, without regret. The plastic trim is very flexible and easy to attach; it is one of the most pliable materials for DIY work.
  • MDF trim strips for interior doors are very similar to their wooden brothers. But they must be secured by adhering to certain strict rules. To prevent the casing from splitting, a hole in it for the nail is made with a 1-1.5 mm drill.

The corner of the trim strip

When choosing the corner of the platband, you need to look at the presence of relief on its surface. If it has a capital pattern or it is perfectly smooth, then such a casing should be correctly joined at a right angle (either vertically or horizontally).
Embossed plinth, like plinth with an oval shape outer surface It is best to cut at 45 degrees.

This option for joining platbands is used most often, but it requires strict adherence to certain rules and great care.

If you make a mistake in cutting the trim at an angle of 45 degrees, then when installation is done, you will end up with small gaps that will have to be filled with wood putty. To cut parts correctly, you need to use a miter box and a file with fairly fine teeth.

Step-by-step installation

For correct installation platbands with your own hands, you first need to determine their length. When calculating the cutting angle, you must adhere to next rule: outer size platband should be taken at the rate of +34 mm to the width of the platband. When installed on a box, the size should be +22 mm, and the internal size should be +18 mm from the width of the casing. Thus, with a casing width of 800 mm, it outer size when installed on an extension it will be equal to 834 mm, when installed on a door frame - 822 mm, and the value internal size platband will be equal to 818 mm.

When installing the casing, you must leave a margin of height equal to the width of the casing; this will allow, in case of inaccuracy, to eliminate an error in the cut of the casing!

The same manipulations must be carried out with the second casing. Just don't do it exact copy first casing. The height of the two trims may differ from each other.

Next, you need to cut down the measured sides of the casing using a miter box and a small hacksaw. You need to cut at an angle of 45 degrees, drawing a cutting line first.
Having cut two vertical parts of the casing, you need to “grab” them to the door frame with two nails to determine the length of the horizontal part of the casing.
By the way, it would be better if the installation of the platbands starts from the door opening side.
Next, we measure the horizontal part of the platband, sliding its upper part under its vertical “neighbors.” We draw the cutting lines and make the cut itself in the same way as in previous cases. After making sure that everything “lays down” correctly, you can nail the platbands to the base.
When the installation of the platbands is completed, you need to cover the joints. The easiest way to do this is with a special putty that matches the color of the wood of the door and trim.

Installation of telescopic platbands

Installation of telescopic platbands is generally done in the same way as installation of conventional ones - you can do this work yourself. The only nuance that must be taken into account is the fragility of the platbands themselves - they must be inserted and removed from the grooves strictly at right angles. Otherwise, the shelf, which holds the casing in the groove, will inevitably break off.

The name itself implies that the platbands must somehow adjust to the thickness of the wall, but this adjustment is very symbolic. The main task is performed by extensions connecting the box and the platbands themselves.

Do-it-yourself installation begins with installing the box. When it is ready, the extensions are attached to it.
The last step will be attaching the trim. The only difficulty that may arise with them is marking and cutting. If you do them incorrectly, there will be gaps at the joints. They can be sealed with putty, but it is better if they are not there.
At this point the installation can be considered complete. More details on the video:

Nuances you need to know when doing the work yourself

In order to hide the place of nailing, a special wax corrector is used in the color of the wood of the casing.
If the wall near the doorway is perfectly flat, then it is better to attach the platband with “liquid nails”, in this case there will be no holes from nails.
To avoid the appearance of cracks after cutting down the platbands, measurements must be taken correctly, without making mistakes, while making preliminary notes in pencil. This measurement option will allow you to minimize gaps, and, ideally, avoid them.
Sometimes a situation may arise when the platbands diverge slightly at the place where they join. This can be corrected by fastening the trim strips with a small nail on top of the horizontal casing.

Platbands are decorative elements used in finishing door and window openings. They are used to hide cracks. Thereby they serve to improve the appearance of doors and windows. There are two types of platbands: external and internal. In this article we will talk about platbands for interior doors. They may vary in material, color, shape and method of fastening.

  • At an angle of 45
  • Telescopic trims

Even before you start choosing platbands, you should know that they need to be installed on interior doors only after finishing the walls and before laying the floor plinth.

Types of platbands

In order to make it easier to choose platbands, or as they are also called - strips, let's figure out what they generally are. The first thing they look at is the material from which they are made:

Wooden planks are considered the most versatile, as they can be painted in desired color. They are attached to liquid nails if the wall is smooth, or to nails without heads.

Laminated platbands made of MDF (fine fraction) are difficult to distinguish from wooden ones. But unlike the previous ones, you won’t be able to paint them, so choose from ready-made flowers. For MDF, any of the possible mounting options. When attaching to nails without heads, it is necessary to drill blind holes in advance.

Products from PVC, as a rule, used with plastic doors. They are attached either with glue or with a perforated mounting profile.

Metal products are undoubtedly the most reliable and durable. The most common ones are steel and aluminum. However, this type of platbands has a specific appearance and is mainly used on entrance doors.

Exist Also gypsum, ceramic and polyurethane platbands. But they are not distinguished by their usual appearance and are rarely used in ordinary, residential apartments, houses. They are also not durable.

In addition to the material, platbands differ in the method of fastening: overhead and telescopic. The latter have their own grooves for fastening.

Necessary tool

To install platbands you will need:

  1. Pencil
  2. Roulette
  3. Plumb
  4. Square
  5. Level
  6. Miter saw or hacksaw.
  7. Hammer

Types of fastening

Before installing the trim on the workpiece, it is necessary to mark the angle of the cut and desired length. Using this marking, the plank is cut with a miter saw, or, if it is not available, with a hacksaw using a miter box, which will help cut at an angle of 45 degrees. As in any other case, it is better to use a high-quality tool. This will help to avoid unnecessary irregularities, inaccuracies and, accordingly, unnecessary problems.

Flat platbands are attached at an angle of 90 degrees, wooden and MDF - at an angle of 45 degrees. Let's consider possible options fixation.

Finishing nails

Wooden and MDF trim It is easier and better to fasten with nails with flat heads. Then, if necessary, they can be easily dismantled. And so that the platbands do not dismantle by themselves and hold tightly, the nail should be driven into the door frame at least 20 - 25 mm. It is better to make the distance between the nails the same. To simplify the task, you can pre-drill through holes in the lantern. At the end, so that the nails do not disturb the appearance, they can be painted over with a wax pencil.

You can also drive nails into the door frame first. Then use pliers to remove their caps. The length of the visible part of the nail without the head should not be greater than the thickness of the strip. Next, having placed the platband against the nails, at the location of these nails, apply wooden beam, wrapped in cloth, and with a few light blows of a hammer the strip is pressed onto the nail.

Liquid Nails

For a flawless appearance, without visible fixation elements, use a special glue - “liquid nails”. However, this method is characterized by weak fixation and difficulty in dismantling. In addition, it can only be used on perfectly smooth walls. But if you decide that this mounting method is the most suitable for you, then apply adhesive to the back side of the casing and lean it firmly against the wall. In the case of an interior door, it is enough to hold the bar in this position for about a minute.

Self-tapping screws

This method is similar to the first, using finishing nails. Naturally, instead of nails there are self-tapping screws. The mounting procedure is similar. The top should be recessed into the plank and painted over with a wax pencil.

Attachment by beaks

This one is different in that it does not use any of the above mountings. The casing itself is equipped with a latch, shaped very similar to a beak. Hence the name. This fastener is inserted into a recess on the door frame. Thus, the fastening is not visible from the outside. But over time, the joints may collapse, and then they will need to be treated with glue.

Installation methods

The installation of the trim should begin from the side into which the door opens. This is explained by the fact that the hinges interfere with the fastening of the strip to the door frame. Therefore, you have to make an indent that is the same on all sides.

It happens that the door is in a corner, then the platbands are installed only on two sides. Or you can saw off half the width of the plank and install it from the side of the adjacent wall (as in the photo).

There are also cases when the platband is installed only on one side. For example, when the slopes on other sides are finished with tiles or something else.

90 angle mount

This fastening option uses flat-shaped products. The cut areas should be treated with varnish or acrylic paint. The seam can be made both horizontal and vertical.

Mounting at an angle of 45

This method is suitable for curly and rounded platbands. The procedure is as follows:

Measure the height of the vertical slats from the floor. They are placed on the floor, therefore, their joints with the baseboards will be on the side. Height vertical elements measured from the floor. The slats are placed on the bottom flooring, which is why the joints of the baseboards and door frames are sideways.

Then the workpiece is cut according to the markings using a miter saw, and in its absence, using a hacksaw and a miter box. The top is cut at 45 degrees on the desired side.

Now the side trims are attached no higher than halfway, so that they bend at the top.

The upper loose parts of the platbands are folded back and the upper part is placed under them. At the joints, lines are marked at an angle of 45 degrees, then the excess part is cut off. Now you can secure the platbands in all remaining places.

Telescopic trims

The peculiarity of this type of installation is that it does not require additional accessories, since the design of the platband itself provides for a fastening consisting of a slot and a groove. The main requirement is the presence of a protrusion between the door frame and interior partition. It is also important that the adjacent walls are level.

Installation of plastic platbands

For plastic platbands glue is used extremely rarely, since the connection with it is not reliable. The most commonly used mounting profiles are:

  • The mounting profile is cut to the size of the door frame (a little smaller if possible).
  • The joints are sawed off at an angle of 45 degrees.
  • The profile is fixed with self-tapping screws to the door frame. If the door is cheap (Chinese), then the mounting profile is fixed to the wall, since it will not be possible to securely tighten the screws into such a door.
  • The profile is screwed from the middle in two directions. At the same time, they monitor compliance with the level.
  • Then measure the height of the side parts and cut off their tops at an angle of 45 degrees. Next, the workpieces are inserted into the grooves of the vertical profiles, where they can move.
  • A fastener is inserted into the cut of the planks - corner fittings. The top is measured and cut at 45 degrees on both sides. The product is connected to vertical platbands, fixed in the mounting profile.

Joining the platband with the plinth

Some people think that the trim at the bottom needs to be cut because the baseboard should go there. It is not right. You need to cut the baseboard itself, otherwise it doesn’t look nice. Therefore, at the very beginning of the article, we said that platbands are installed before baseboards.

On plastic skirting boards There are decorative plugs that allow you to make the joint of the plinth with the platband neat.

On wooden baseboard a cut is made at 45 degrees. This allows you to equalize the thickness of the plinth with the thickness of the platband.

Thus, in this article we examined the topic of platbands for interior doors. By following our tips and recommendations, you can easily choose the methods of fastening and installing the planks yourself and implement them at home.

Do-it-yourself door cashing. How to install cash on the door

Cashing doors is not particularly difficult. However, such work should be approached with all seriousness, since it is the correct high-quality installation The attractiveness of the installed door largely depends on the platbands.

Types of platbands

Do-it-yourself door cashing can be done using molded products made of natural wood, MDF or plastic. Experts strongly recommend that you first resort to using veneered or laminated trim made from MDF or PVC. Such platbands are not afraid of moisture, exposure to steam and serious temperature changes. Naturally, platbands made of natural wood look most aesthetically attractive. At the same time, this option is the most expensive.

Materials for manufacturing platbands and installation features

As mentioned above, there are several common materials for making platbands: wood, MDF and plastic. If we talk about installation wooden products, then the cashing of doors in this case can be carried out with the landing of the platbands on liquid nails or fastenings in the form of the thinnest nails without heads. If desired, you can carefully cut off the caps yourself. Attaching trims to metal nails looks most neat when the caps are masked with acrylic sealants or a corrective wax pencil.

Cashing front door MDF platbands are made in a special way. To ensure that the appearance of the planks remains as attractive as possible and close to natural wood, all guide holes for fastening to nails are drilled here in advance. Alternatively, MDF trims can be glued in the same way as wood products.

As for plastic trims, it is recommended to glue them to avoid defects. Wherein plastic products perfectly cover impressive uneven walls.

Tools

Cashing doors requires a whole arsenal of tools. To get the job done quickly and efficiently, you will need the following:

  • miter panel saw;
  • roulette;
  • jigsaw;
  • pliers;
  • small hammer;
  • small furniture nails;
  • pencil;
  • construction corner.

Preparing for work

How to cash a door? Before proceeding with specific actions, care must be taken to level the surface of the adjacent walls. Availability of perfectly smooth smooth walls is prerequisite when installing platbands. Otherwise, there is a high probability of noticeable gaps appearing between the cashing and the wall. Among other things, you should handle the platbands themselves as carefully as possible, because the appearance of even minor scratches may spoil the attractive appearance of the product, which will entail unnecessary waste.

Main nuances when performing work

To ensure that the fastening of platbands to nails is invisible, it is worth using to hide the heads. acrylic sealant, the color of which corresponds to the shade of the surfaces. Cashing doors in the presence of smooth walls allows the use of liquid nails. In this case, the main difficulty remains to prevent the appearance of noticeable gaps between the individual planks.

To avoid mistakes when cutting the upper casing, the edges of the plank are brought behind the vertical parts. This approach to the installation of platbands makes it possible to achieve complete coincidence of all structural elements.

Cashing at the door - installation

Installation of door trims is carried out according to a number of successive stages:

  • First, you should dismantle the old cash, if any. Coping with these jobs is quite simple. It is enough to have a small pry bar or a screwdriver with which to pry off the old casing. The main thing is not to cause damage door jamb. Also, upon completion of dismantling, it is necessary to remove the nails using pliers.
  • How to install cash on the door? After dismantling the old trims is completed, it is necessary to begin installing new additional trims. It is recommended to give preference to products with factory edge lining.
  • First of all, the left and right additional trim strips are fixed, which are cut according to the length of the desired height. After doing the work according to the same principle, the upper bar is set. To strengthen the structure, the side and top extensions can be fastened with self-tapping screws.
  • The platbands are fixed along the entire perimeter of the door frame, starting with the installation of the right or left platband.
  • Using a construction angle and a panel saw, the edges of the cash are filed at an angle of 45 degrees. The angle is marked with a pencil, and a neat cut is made. In this case, distortions and chips on the front surface should be avoided. When performing such work, it is better to give preference to saws with the smallest teeth.
  • After cutting the corners, measure the distance from the floor covering to the bottom of the top trim, after which 5 mm is added to the resulting value in the form of an allowance. The resulting length is set aside from the previously cut corner of the cashing. Unnecessary top part cut with a jigsaw or small saw. If there is cashing with fastening in a groove, then the required length should be determined by its inner edge.
  • How to nail cash on the door? Using a hammer and small nails, the cash is attached to the door strip or block. The most convenient way to remove nail heads is with wire cutters. It is recommended to hammer nails at intervals of no more than every 50 cm.
  • If, as a result of performing the above work with consistent adherence to all stages, it was possible to achieve an ideal fit of all the components of the cashing, the existing small cracks can be carefully hidden using a special sealant, the shade of which is matched to the color of the door. Installation of platbands on the back side of the door frame is carried out according to the same principle.

    Installing cash on doors with your own hands - options for different materials

    Platbands are strips that are installed on the sides (side and top) of the door frame. Their purpose is primarily decorative - they give completeness to the box, hiding the frame timber and technological seams between the wall and the box.

    It is best to choose trims that match the door leaf to create a complete picture. In addition, they serve as protection against dust and provide additional sound insulation.

    This is one of the most simple steps door installation, both technologically and in terms of skills and experience. Therefore, most often when renovating apartments, owners try to perform this operation themselves.

    But nevertheless, as in any business, installing cash on a door with your own hands requires knowledge of the basic principles and small secrets so that the door looks neat.

    The main methods of installing cashing - choosing connection angles

    The main thing that is required for this work is scrupulous measurement and accuracy in work, as well as taking into account some of the nuances of fastening and sawing.

    The choice of material for platbands is wide - it can be wood, plastic, MDF. Along with traditional wood, veneered or laminated frames made of MDF or PVC are increasingly being used. They perfectly tolerate temperature fluctuations, changes in humidity, steam, and have sufficient mechanical strength.

    Plastic trims are best secured with glue or liquid nails. However, this can only be done perfectly flat surface. Otherwise, there will be gaps between the platbands and the wall. Or you can come to terms with the fact that the flexible platband bends according to the unevenness of the wall.

    In addition, this may create difficulties if you later need to lay wiring or cables (Internet, TV cable, etc.). True, the cost of plastic trim allows, if necessary, to simply tear them off and then glue new ones.

    Wooden ones are best secured with copper-plated nails without heads (they can be bitten off with pliers), slightly recessed into the wood. Copper will darken in the future and will not stand out against the general background. You can use a construction gun, which “shoots” the platband with studs without heads. Also, the attachment point can be masked with sealant or a wax pencil to match the trim.

    In MDF trims, it is recommended to drill holes for nails (1 - 1.5 mm in diameter) in advance. Just like the plastic ones. they can be glued - but only on a perfectly flat prepared surface.

    Corners washed down when installing platbands

    There are two ways to connect vertical and horizontal trims - at 90° and at 45°. The choice of angle is determined by the relief of the front side of the platband. If the casing is flat with smooth or slightly rounded sides, you can join at an angle of 90°.

    Also, platbands can be connected at 90° if the door is framed on top by a capital. In this case, the seam between the elements can be made both vertical and horizontal. The only condition is that the cut must be neat, without chipping outside. After cutting, the end of the cut must be tinted with varnish.

    If the platband has a rounded side edge, then when connected at a right angle, a gap remains between the platbands. In this case, it is necessary to make the cut not perpendicular to the surface, but with an inclination (so that the front part is longer). In this case, the slope will hide most of the seam, and the rest can be covered with wax or sealant.

    However, if front side has a figured profile or a rounded surface, it is necessary to saw down the platbands for connection at an angle of 45°. This scheme requires care both during measurements and during operation. The slightest mistake will lead to the appearance of cracks. Chips and scuffs on the front surface can also greatly spoil the appearance.

    For a perfect cut, you must use a special guide machine (miter box) and a hacksaw with fine teeth. But the most best method- if you have a cross-cutting machine.

    To reduce the likelihood of chipping, professional carpenters seal the front surface of the casing with electrical tape.

    Method of installing platbands

    Attaching the trim is usually one of the final operations during repairs. It is executed after finishing walls - that is, after wallpapering and before installing skirting boards.

    You need to start installation from the side where the curtains (door hinges) are located, on the side in which it opens door leaf. Due to the presence of hinges, the platband may not be flush with the frame beam.

    First of all, it is necessary to measure the height as accurately as possible along the line located next to the hinges. We set this distance aside from the flattest side of the trim strip. if there is none, you need to cut off the bar and mark the desired point.

    Then draw a line from it at 45° and carefully cut it off. If not cross-cutting machine, you should use a guide machine (miter box).

    We mark a point exactly horizontally on the opposite side of the door frame and again measure the distance to the floor. These values do not necessarily coincide - a lot depends on the floor level or the characteristics of the door frame. We cut the platband at 45° in the same way.

    Attention! It is better to apply all markings on the back side of the casing, as it is more even.

    Then you should attach the cut strips using a pair of nails - one at the very bottom, the second about a meter from the floor. Bend the upper ends of the planks, and place the blank under them under the upper casing. Having marked the points of contact, we make a cut along them at 45°.

    If all cuts are made accurately, the seams between the trims will be almost invisible. Especially if the ends are tinted in the same color as the trims themselves. If cracks do appear, they will need to be sealed with sealant or wax. Before final installation, it is necessary to attach the trim and close and open the door a couple of times to check whether they interfere with the movement of the door leaf.

    We determine the pitch of nails (studs) for fastening ourselves. The optimal fastening step is 50 cm, but if you like to slam the door, the studs are installed every 15 cm.

    And one last thing. If the apartment has several doors of different sizes, then you need to start practicing from the largest opening - so that if unsuccessful, the trimmings can be used on the smaller door.

    How to cash doors yourself

    Cashing is a decorative element that is attached to the outside and gives a finished appearance to the entire house. Its main purpose is to hide cracks and defects after installing windows and the front door. In addition, it improves sound insulation and reduces heat loss.

    How to make the right choice

    When choosing cash on doors and windows, you need to remember that this element immediately catches the eye, so it must be in harmony with the entire building. When choosing or making platbands with your own hands, you need to remember several important points:

    • The platbands should be in harmony in color with the walls of the house.
    • The quality of the material must be at high level to withstand weather conditions: rain, wind, sun, temperature changes. Wooden frames must be coated with high-quality varnishes and paints so that they do not fade or lose their attractive appearance.
    • Balancing the sizes will allow you to achieve a harmonious appearance. Platbands that are too wide will be inappropriate for narrow windows, and vice versa, narrow ones will get lost against the background of wide openings.
    • Internal cashing for interior openings and doors are most often flat or rounded. It will look good on the outside if carved.

    Cash out wooden house best made from wood. This way the structure will look harmonious and beautiful. During construction from modern materials Plastic and metal finishes are appropriate.

    Wooden trims

    Wooden trim is often chosen for installation on the outside of the front door. They are reliable, durable, and easy to make with your own hands. But we must remember that wooden frames require constant care, painting and varnishing in order to maintain their appearance at the highest level.

    Carved wooden trim for windows and entrance doors is made at complex machines. Its price is much higher than usual, but its beauty and sophistication are worth it. You can try to make carvings yourself using chisels, but this work is not easy and requires skill and patience.

    Deciding to make carved frames yourself, you need to consider the following tips:

    • the cash drawing must be made in the same style;
    • carving can be processed not only with varnish, but also painted in different colors;
    • the upper horizontal bar can be made in the form of a “kokoshnik”;
    • vertical slats can be longer than the opening and represent a “towel” with drains for rainwater.

    Plastic trim

    Advantages of plastic platbands:

    • affordable price;
    • big choice color solutions and textures;
    • reliability and durability;
    • ease of care.

    There is a plastic strip for cashing different widths. It can be attached in two ways:

    • on mounting elements– non-removable design;
    • on special latches - removable design.

    Installation on special latches or nipples is very simple and convenient. Platband on inside has cavities into which they are inserted. These latches are screwed around the perimeter of the frame using ordinary self-tapping screws. The cashing strip is applied to the attachment point and, using a little force, the nipple is inserted into the groove.

    Depending on the width of the casing, there may be two, three or four grooves. They can also be used to lay television cables.

    Manufacturing of wooden platbands

    In order to make platbands for entrance or interior doors with your own hands. First you need to select a material of suitable quality and prepare a tool for the job.

    The cashing for the door should be made of a dry board so that it does not move after fastening. You need to pay close attention to appearance material. If the board is to be coated only with varnish, then the color of the wood should be even, without stains that indicate a violation of the drying technology. They can only be removed by painting. The board should be free of knots; they increase the likelihood of breaks and cracks when working with your own hands.

    The manufacturing process consists of the following stages:

  • The dimensions of the window or door opening are determined and the values are transferred to the board.
  • Blanks are cut for cashing.
  • Rough grinding is carried out, and then manually using fine sandpaper the external surface of the cashing is brought to perfect condition.
  • The casing is treated with a protective compound.
  • You can use platbands from old door if they are the right size. To do this, they need to be cleared of the old coating, cleaned, sanded and coated with paint or varnish.

    DIY installation

    Installing cash is not a complicated process, so you can do it yourself. To do this you need to follow the following instructions:

  • Measure the height of the window or door opening and transfer it to the vertical slats.

  • Cut the trim to the required length.
  • Place them in place to determine the dimensions of the horizontal bar.
  • Attach the cash in place using self-tapping screws or liquid nails.

  • A house should be beautiful not only inside, but also outside. Thoughtful framing of the windows and front door will help make it attractive and set it apart from other buildings.
