How to install running lights on a car with your own hands?

Relatively recently, in our country, they began to require the presence of daytime running lights on a car. Officially, daytime running lights were first used on Swedish roads in 1977. This is due to the fact that there was not enough natural light and this manifested itself in the winter months. Daytime running lights or DRLs are needed to ensure good visibility of vehicles on the road to improve traffic safety.

Requirements for running lights

Since running lights do not have a clear regulation, their role can be played by:

  1. Always on front turn signals.
  2. Low beam headlights on while driving.
  3. front emitters.
  4. High beam headlights on using the dimming system.

Installation Requirements

Taking into account international rules, some changes were made to the Russian standards for the classification of navigation lights. Installation of daytime running lights independently requires certain skills and knowledge of the rules and requirements:

  1. DRL should be placed in front of the car at a distance of 25-150 cm from the ground.
  2. The minimum distance between the units of daytime running lights must be 60 cm, and the distance from the edge of the body must not exceed 40 cm.
  3. The total power of light emission should be 400-800 Cd.
  4. Homemade emitters should have an area of 25 to 200 sq. Mm.

You must understand that car running lights are not marker lights, as they have a completely different power (illumination strength).

Almost all auto shops now offer navigation light kits, which are usually sold off the shelf. These can be Philips, Hella headlights, etc. that meet the requirements of GOST. There is no need to invent something new.

Before installing daytime running lights yourself, you should consider the following factors:

  1. It is necessary to carefully understand the requirements of GOST for the installation of lighting devices.
  2. Be sure to take into account the design, shape and type of car bumper. This criterion is needed when choosing a round or rectangular block.
  3. The size of the block is chosen taking into account the place of attachment. It can be a bumper or an air intake.
  4. Do not forget about the number of LEDs and their brightness. The brightness setting should be controlled to meet installation requirements, and the choice of LEDs mainly depends on your preferences.

With these factors in mind, you will avoid problems during maintenance.
