The interior of the house is in an old style. Vintage in the interior (22 photos): design and decor in retro style. Interior design principles

Designer Anna Clark

This apartment is located in the historical center of Moscow, in a building built in 1911 with a beautiful front facade. For a long time it was communal, and the condition of the premises at the time of purchase left much to be desired: a large number of doors and small rooms, a long narrow corridor, smoky walls and ceiling in the kitchen.

Hall. Table lamp Arteriors (Ravi Lamp), floor (in the entire apartment - solid board, stained oak)

However, according to the designer, it was impossible not to notice its potential: high (3.4 meters) ceilings, twelve (!) large windows facing both sides of the apartment (to a picturesque alley and a quiet courtyard overlooking the temple).

Master bedroom. The bed is made according to the designer's sketches, manufacturer Furniture Laboratory Brand (tinted oak, brass insert, Alcantara headboard), Dovlet House carpet, bedside table - Jan Cavelle, chandelier - Davidts Stefane bedspreads, pillows - A-Decor

In some rooms, the original stucco molding on the ceiling was even preserved, but, unfortunately, it was not possible to restore it. Therefore, before starting repair work, a complete dismantling was carried out interior partitions, all finishing was removed from the ceilings and the floor was completely replaced.

Master bedroom. Armchair La Fibule, chest of drawers with brass inserts made according to the designer’s sketches, workshop of Vladimir Vedishchev, Manuel Canovas wallpaper.

Removing the old layer of plaster revealed a beautiful arched window design. The window frames were replaced with new ones, preserving the historical shape of the glazing. Wide window slopes were emphasized with stucco molding.

Guest room. Loffilab couch, table with marble top (Rosso Luana) made according to the designer's sketches, Vaughan chandelier, A-Decor curtains, Dovlet House carpet, Laura Ashley wallpaper

The designer was faced with the task of creating new spacious premises correct shape and fill them with light as much as possible.

« New flat had to be planned as conveniently as possible for the life of its new owners,” says Anna. – Walking through a small hallway past the plumbing blocks, we find ourselves in the heart of the apartment - the living room with a cozy bay window and fireplace.

Opposite the living room we placed the kitchen, separating the rooms from each other using sliding doors. In the back of the apartment there is a master bedroom, a nursery, an office and a guest room.

We were also able to design a special laundry room with a washing machine, dryer, utility sink and storage shelves.” To further fill the apartment with sunlight, all doors (except those to the bathroom) were made with frosted glass.

Their height was visually increased due to false transoms. As for the interior, the designer sought to make it echo the historical facade of the building itself. The decor was conceived as classic and at the same time comfortable for a modern person. It was decided to put dark smoked oak on the floor; it gave the interior a sense of splendor.

To make the space look seamless, all the walls were painted the same beige shade. The uniform color scheme is diluted bright accents in the form of accessories and decorative items.

According to Anna, textiles and light are those things that can either “save” the interior or hopelessly ruin it. “That’s why I choose them very carefully,” admits the designer. – Natural French and English fabrics were used in this interior, and the lighting was ordered from the USA and England.

Children's room. Visual Comfort lamp, Loffilab couch, wardrobe made according to the designer’s sketches (produced by Vladimir Vedishchev’s workshop), Maison du Monde table lamp

However, American lamps typically come with paper lampshades, so we gave them a personal touch by having new silk lampshades made to order in a Moscow workshop.”

More recently, vintage style has come back into fashion. This design direction means a skillful combination of antique and modern things. Moreover, a vintage interior does not always mean decorating the entire room with vintage or even antique items; you can simply use decor in a vintage style.

Usually those things that were created before the 60s are classified as retro style, those that are younger than 15 years are considered modern. And those items that were made between these dates are considered vintage. But the vintage status of a thing is judged not only by its age: the thing must be original, distinctive and generally look like a work of art.

Of interest vintage decor with your own hands, which will bear the imprint of the personality of its owner. You can make decorative items from previous eras yourself, and it won’t be particularly expensive.

Various garlands and wreaths made of fabric, an organizer for jewelry or decorative elements made of burlap, various artificially aged jars and bottles, old photographs or drawings on aged paper look good.

Preserved children's items are also often used to decorate rooms or individual vintage displays: booties, sandals, dresses, caps, baby vests, etc.

Room decoration

To give the entire room the spirit of the past, they use antique or artificially aged furniture, textiles purchased in antique shops or flea markets, dishes, utensils and other items that have survived several eras. A vintage interior involves not only the use of antiques, but also a certain decoration of the room.

The main idea is the use of natural materials:
– natural ceilings (cracks on them are even welcome, but everything should be in moderation; stucco molding at the junction of walls and ceiling also looks good),
– parquet or tile floor (artificially created abrasions, chips and other defects are used),
– natural wallpaper (either Japanese motifs, or floral patterns, or white walls).

It is worth paying attention not to overload the vintage interior with details. The more small decorative elements are planned, the airier and more spacious the space should be. Functional items should be combined with antique exhibits correctly so that the room does not look like a museum. The main thing is that the room should be convenient and comfortable, and vintage decor only complements the overall decor and gives the room coziness and exclusivity.

It is important not to overload the interior with vintage decor

Decor elements

To give the interior a finished look and uniqueness, separate vintage “corners” or “islands” are often decorated. This design is suitable for any room, as well as for almost all design styles, with the exception of minimalism and high-tech style. Paintings, jewelry, postcards, dresses, utensils, dishes, candlesticks, toys, boxes and many other things are used as a means of decoration.

Vintage corner in the bedroom interior

Vintage decor looks cute, elegant and feminine, so it is most often used in bedrooms, kitchens, even bathrooms, but vintage-style decor can also be used in moderation in the living room or hallway area.

Vintage dresses

When designing rooms in the punk glamor style, a dress is often used as a decorative element. Indoors, vintage dresses are used, which are usually hung in the bedroom or simply on the wall, or on a mirror frame, or on a closet door. The main thing is to put such an original dress on display.

If you are the lucky owner of a vintage dress, but don't wear it so that such beauty doesn't go to waste, use it as vintage decor. It is advisable that the color of the dress matches the general appearance of the room.

To complement this bedroom design, you can use accessories: a hat, handbag, jewelry or entire compositions of them.

Vintage dress in the interior

Decorations

Accessories and decorations can also be used as independent vintage decor. Decor dressing table things like this will fill the room with girlish and soulful motifs. If you have antique beads, hairpins, brooches, handbags and wallets, rings, rings, use them as decor in a vintage style.

When composing compositions from jewelry, you can strain your imagination to the fullest: here the principle “good, but not enough” is not appropriate. It is believed that jewelry looks interesting when there are a lot of them.
As ideas for creating compositions, you can consider a jewelry organizer, deliberately open boxes with accessories, jewelry on a tray or on old mannequins that are still preserved in some studios.

Furniture

Furniture can be considered as a means of creating a vintage style in a room. In order not to overload the room, one antique table or dressing table is enough. It is difficult to place anything significant on such small tables, so most often they do not carry a functional load, but become just a decorative element. On the console table you can place compositions of jewelry, an old table lamp or a mirror in a vintage style. This way, all these items will not look lonely, and the composition will look complete.

Small vintage table in the interior

An antique piece of furniture can be used if it fits harmoniously into the interior of the room. You can decorate it with your own hands, using old photographs, pictures, creating artificial scuffs or cracks.

Pictures and photos

Another way to give the interior the spirit of previous eras is through pictures or old photographs. Such vintage decor will be appropriate even in a high-tech style and will add romance to the room if you skillfully select pictures. One, but large painting with a landscape or still life, and several symmetrically located paintings, as well as a whole wall of photographs or old postcards, also look interesting.
The peculiarity of such decorative elements, unlike others, is vintage items is that they do not need to be combined with anything. They look natural on their own.

Mirrors

As an option, you can use vintage mirrors to create a vintage-style mood in the room.

If the mirror is really old, or better yet, with scratches or scuffs, then you can use it in the interior without additional decoration.

Mirrors in artificially aged frames are widely used. You can create a similar vintage decor with your own hands, for example, using the decoupage technique.

When creating a vintage-style interior, it is important not to hang the mirror on the wall, but simply lean it against it. This applies to both floor mirrors and small toilet mirrors.
To prevent the mirror from becoming “bored” in the interior, you definitely need to choose some kind of vintage addition to it: you can use several mirrors in similar frames, you can place some kind of composition, box, table lamp or candlesticks in a vintage style under the mirror.

Dishes

Antique dishes are also considered vintage decor. Dishes, clay pots, perfume bottles or bottles similar to apothecary ones, teapots and even a samovar will look great in a vintage-style kitchen. You can find similar items at flea markets or antique stores. After their restoration, if necessary, you can further decorate them by hiding minor defects. You can also artificially age such things; there are a lot of techniques for this.

Lighting

In a vintage interior, you can use lighting that matches the overall mood of the room. For this, antique table lamps, candlesticks or floor lamps are used.
The lamp is usually a white or light lampshade in the shape of a truncated cone on a massive crystal or metal leg with a complex pattern. You can additionally decorate the lamp by making a lampshade from a child’s skirt or napkin.

Today, old things are at the height of fashion. Of course, not spoiled, torn and unusable, but those that are well preserved remain of high quality and stylish. Vintage is a word translated from French meaning “old wine that has been stored in a cellar for a long time.” This is how the style in clothing design and interior decoration began to be called. Vintage style in the interior is extremely popular today. Vintage items preserved from the time of our grandmothers, like wine, the taste of which only improves over time, acquire greater value every year, you begin to treat them with great respect and even with some trepidation, and the room decorated with them is so original that it evokes the admiration of many people.

Don't mix antiques and vintage. In the first case, these are original antique objects, and in the second, things can be created.

By choosing a vintage style interior for your apartment, you will add coziness, comfort, and warmth to it. In such a home you won’t want to break dishes and scream; it will be filled with a special calming energy. After all, as you know, the interior influences our consciousness and behavior.

The main features of the vintage style

Vintage items are furniture and interior items that are more than 20 years old. But most of all, vintage-style interiors love things from the 20s and 30s of the 20th century, when materials such as plastic and synthetics were not yet widespread.

Vintage style in the interior emphasizes antiquity and unique things.

Advice: don't use modern ones Decoration Materials and structures (laminate, linoleum, stretch ceiling) to create a vintage room, they can ruin all the charm of such an interior; The use of modern materials is allowed, provided that they are artificially aged.

The following features of the vintage style are distinguished:

  • use of shabby furniture (chests, shelves, sideboards);
  • saturating the interior with various decorative objects of the past (vases, candlesticks, boxes), they must be intact;
  • color palette – delicate pastel shades, floral prints;
  • natural materials for finishing walls, ceilings, floors; You can’t use synthetics and plastic;
  • deliberate negligence in the interior (a blanket thrown on the back of a chair, photographs in aged frames, high floor and small table vases– all this is arranged haphazardly, without any principle, but does not create chaos, such “order” looks natural).

Wallpaper

Color is the basis of any interior. Vintage tends towards pastel colors, but there are interiors with rich colors, which are achieved through the use of special type wallpaper

Wallpaper in vintage style is characterized by patterned ornaments (flowers, intertwining branches). Vintage wallpaper looks as if it has faded slightly with age. There are three types of such wall coverings:

  • wallpapers with a contrasting pattern in the Art Nouveau style are used in addition to them;
  • wallpaper with bright Japanese motifs; such material has a background of rich color, and it depicts birds or flowers;
  • wallpaper with small or large discreet patterns, designed in pastel colors.

In a room decorated in vintage style, it is customary to cover all the walls with wallpaper, but what should catch your eye, first of all, is the furnishings, not the wallpaper.

Ceiling

Vintage ceilings are painted, whitewashed or wallpapered. Cracks and slight unevenness on the surface give a special charm to the interior. Stucco molding is often used in vintage style.

Floor

Parquet is used as flooring in living rooms or a simple plank floor is left.

A bathroom or kitchen can be decorated with antique-style floor tiles.

Furniture for a vintage room

All furniture must be made from natural materials(wood, wrought iron, copper, brass) in combination with unusual fabrics. These should be items “with history.” Small scratches, chips, and abrasions will only add zest to the vintage interior.

Furniture in a vintage room should be arranged symmetrically. Place two armchairs, place a sofa between them, near the armchairs - two identical bedside tables with identical lamps or two floor lamps, a long coffee table - near the sofa, this setting will visually lengthen the room, pastel colors will increase the area of the room.

Vintage loves a large number of accessories (photos in frames, ceramic figurines, candlesticks, mirrors, shelves).

Advice: choose plain light wallpaper if you plan to decorate the room with a large number of accessories; against the backdrop of bright contrasting walls, the decor will simply get lost.

Vintage style color palette

Vintage is a light and airy style. He doesn't like dark and bright colors. The color scheme is ashen, pearl, lavender, beige tones, the colors of young greenery or ashen rose, as well as their shades.

Decorate the walls pink wallpaper, and as upholstery for furniture or cabinet fronts, use materials in the color of young grass, sky blue or ash rose; such a spring interior will fill the room with fresh energy.

Vintage textiles

All vintage style textiles should be made from natural materials (cotton, silk, chintz, calico, linen) in pleasant pastel shades.

Advice: To prevent the room from merging into a single spot, play with contrast, decorate the walls with light or small flowered wallpaper, and choose textiles with large drawing brighter colors, and, conversely, combine wallpaper with large bright flowers with plain textiles.

Vintage is a romantic, warm and cozy style. The room doesn’t have to be completely vintage, you can just add some accents. But the vintage style does not combine with high-tech, minimalism and oriental styles.

The word vintage translated from in English means an old, noble wine made from seasonal fruits. Vintage struck the fashion world, then penetrated into interiors. Wine becomes better in quality over time, and the situation is similar with interiors. Concrete, glass, steel, which characterize modernity, are combined in this style with old wood and wicker furniture, giving the environment a noble look. All objects are interesting, have character and style.

Bedding forms an important element of bedroom design. There is no single rule that would say what pillows and linens should be used in an antique bedroom. Fabrics used are patterned and plain, smooth, with or without frills. The choice depends on other decorative elements:

Conclusion

Sometimes it is enough to throw a blanket with history on a chair or an old armchair, or hang pictures from the past on the wall to create a unique interior. In vintage style, only the imagination sets the limits of fantasy.

How to restore the splendor of old objects so that in a new incarnation they serve for many years and amaze with their charm? This is the key question of how to create a vintage atmosphere. In addition to vintage, old-fashioned elements, modern elements can be freely introduced into the interior. Loose combinations are a hallmark of vintage style.

The closest thing to Vintage style is retro style. This is not a temporary fashion statement, but a lifestyle, a love of family values and history. A picture cannot reflect the true charm of a trend, because its irreplaceable elements are home aromas, unique sounds, and the warmth that comes from stylization.

Antique style is an interior that is directly related to the culture of ancient Greece and Rome. Antiquity is the image of a Greek column striving upward, towards light and perfection. The symbolism of the Antique style is obvious and recognizable. First of all, this is the museum nobility of the presented interior. A timeless classic that will never go out of style, an endless spatial unity that unites others standard solutions. In order to add a touch of Antique style to the interior, it is not enough to decorate the room with a portico with two marble columns; it is important that this nuance gives off a feeling of nobility and completeness. The Antique style is usually very self-sufficient and does not need any decorations.

Vanguard

Avant-garde is a style that abandons classical, traditional canons and creates new modern forms that are in tune with the mood prevailing in society. The fundamental principles of style are color and shape, which must contrast with each other. In general, contrast is one of the main features of the Avant-garde style. It should be noted that this style can combine completely incompatible objects and materials. The basis of the Avant-garde style is color and shape, to which contrast is certainly added. The style is characterized by bright and pure colors such as white, black, red, yellow, green. It is allowed to use several contrasting colors in one room at the same time. It is believed that this adds dynamics and expression to the interior.

Empire style

This interior style is the highest point, and at the same time the final chord of classicism that emerged in the second half of the 18th century. During the era of the Napoleonic Empire, classicism was reborn into an official style imposed from above - the Empire style. The essence of this style was frankly expressed in its very name: Empire - from the French “empiere”, empire. Quoting the Roman classics, Empire incorporated its characteristic features, combining the features of Ancient Greece and Rome, adding to them ancient Egyptian motifs. The interior style of the aristocracy, which has not gone out of fashion to this day, shines with its luxury and wealth.

Art Deco

Art Deco is the style of the stars, these are rounded, “streamlined” shapes of furniture, chrome handles on wooden furniture facades, sculptural compositions of female figures in expressive, almost unnatural poses, and exotic natural materials in decoration - ivory, snake skin, stingray or crocodile skin. Art Deco is characterized by the use of different elements of interior decor. These are bright, bold, sometimes daring, original color combinations. Interior design made in the Art Deco style is a grouping of individual stylish things: furniture, ceramics, fabrics, wood or bronze products. The latest chic style of European capitals.

Art Nouveau, Art Nouveau

The slogan is “back to nature.” Characteristic features are a wavy curved line, combining the trends of the East and the desire for constructiveness. The intricately curved lines of the decor visually merge with the elements of the building structure. In decoration, much attention is paid to stylized floral pattern, flexible flowing forms, which turned metal structures into bizarre thickets of fantastic flowers. The symbol of the style is the sophisticated form of a cyclamen flower, “water” plants irises, lilies, algae. Stylized plant and animal forms with softly curved, moving lines, flat and not giving shadows, due to which they are far from naturalism or historicism - most likely similar to late Gothic forms and Japanese painting.

Baroque

Baroque - palace style. The eternal youth of the style is explained simply; at all times, elements emphasizing abundance and luxury have been in demand. The Baroque style has become the embodiment of its era. For the first time in the history of art, Baroque combined two concepts - style and way of life. The sensual-physical joy of being, tragic conflicts form the basis of beauty and the source of inspiration for style. In interior design, Baroque strives for grandeur, splendor, and spatial scope. Excessively lush and replete with richness of decoration, variety of materials used and complex decorative style.

Biedermeier

Biedermeier is an offshoot of romanticism, which replaced the Empire style, which is why it is sometimes called a “mixture of Empire style with Romanticism.” Interiors in the Biedermeier style are characterized by intimacy, balanced proportions, simplicity of forms and light colors. The premises were light and spacious, which is why the interior was perceived as moderately simple, but psychologically comfortable. The walls of rooms with deep window niches were painted white or other light colors and covered with embossed striped wallpaper. The pattern on the window curtains and furniture upholstery was the same. These fabric interior parts were colored and contained designs depicting flowers.

Victorian style

The British call the Victorian period briefly: “Victorianism” and believe that in aesthetics it meant the triumph of pragmatism and materialism, which, however, is generally characteristic of the “English style”. The characteristic features of the Victorian style are eclecticism, combining Gothic, Rococo, exotic and classic. Exotic at that time meant Indian and Chinese styles. In addition, the Victorian style is a combination of unsurpassed quality and ancient, classic canons.

Gothic

Gothic is mainly an architectural style, but in interior design it is characterized by very significant differences from other styles, its own and incomparable “face”: huge windows, multi-color stained glass windows, lighting effects. Giant openwork towers, emphasized verticality of all structural elements. Characteristic elements in interior design are slender columns, complex vault shapes, openwork ornaments, rose-shaped windows and lancet vaults, lead-framed window glass, made of convex glass, but without curtains. Fantastic, superior to all existing Gothic structures, they overcome the bulkiness of stone. As a result, the main features can be considered irrationalism, dematerialization, upward striving, mysticism, lightness, expressiveness.

Constructivism

Constructivism in the interior is characterized by the aesthetics of expediency, the rationality of strictly utilitarian forms, purified from the romantic decorativeism of modernity. Furniture of simple, strict, comfortable shapes is created. The function and purpose of each item is extremely clear. No bourgeois excesses. Simplicity is taken to the limit, to such simplification, when things - chairs, beds, cabinets - become simply objects for sleeping, sitting. A distinctive feature of the Constructivist Style in interior design is thoughtful functional solutions and strict adherence to their requirements, compact volumes with a clearly identified frame, technical clarity of the construction of the architectural form.

Classicism

Classicism is a palace style created specifically for the design of palace premises and chambers of noble people. The main feature of the architecture of classicism was the appeal to the forms of ancient architecture as a standard of harmony, simplicity, rigor, logical clarity and monumentality. Classicism is characterized by clear geometric shapes, restrained decor and expensive, high-quality materials ( natural wood, stone, silk, etc.). The most common decorations are sculptures and stucco. Monumental sophistication, majesty, solidity, finishing in noble colors - these are the signs by which the classic style of the interior is recognized.

Neoclassicism

Neoclassicism, as an aesthetic movement and architectural style, is determined by an appeal to antiquity, which it adopted from the classicism that preceded it.
