Do-it-yourself machine bed drawings of the sidewalls. Do-it-yourself car bed: drawing with dimensions, self-production. Prices for a linear series of milling cutters

When mentioning handmade furniture, its accessibility and simplicity come to the fore. This - perfect solution for beginners who decide to please their family new furniture. But this does not apply to all crafts. In production, interior items are created in large quantities, which implies the use special technologies or the simplicity of the models. It’s easier for home craftsmen - you can focus entirely on one specific product, put all your love, care, and strength into it. A great option is a do-it-yourself car bed. Today you will learn how to make it so that it performs not only a user function, but also an additional game function.

Design features of the bed machine

Children's furniture is subjected to even more stress than adult furniture, despite the large difference in weight. Children are constantly actively moving, diligently, so both regular and play beds are used not only for rest and sleep, but also for somersaults, jumping, climbing, and various games. That is why:

  • A do-it-yourself machine bed, first of all, should be as durable as possible, and this applies not only to materials, but also to fastenings.
  • It is also important that it corresponds to the specified dimensions.
  • Since it is impossible to make such a structure sliding, it is better to choose parameters for growth. On average, such furniture lasts for several years.
  • Everything in it should be safe - paints, materials, lighting, stickers.

Bed frame

The choice of base, as a rule, depends on experience in working with wood, one’s own wishes, and the upcoming load, which is determined by the weight of the child.

Let's look at how to make a machine bed with your own hands in the two most popular variations:

  • These parts are assembled from timber with a section of 50 by 70 mm. Joints are reinforced with metal corners. If it is expected that there will be drawers in a typewriter bed, the cross beams are replaced with boards or plywood jumpers. The frame is assembled onto a frame; it consists of a back, sides, and headboard. The bottom of a children's car bed can be made solid from thin plywood or rack and pinion. The frame is installed directly on the floor, on casters or on legs.

Important! This design can be called simple but reliable. In this case, the dimensions of the frame coincide with the dimensions of the mattress.

  • Here the main load of the machine bed is distributed between the footboard, headboard, and sides. The mattress in this design is supported on a frame made of beams, fixed to inside backs and sides. The base is strengthened by a frame in the form of bedside tables. The headboard and footboard act as the fronts of the bedside tables, while the sides are attached directly to them.

Side panels, footboard, headboard

They play the role of the main design details, because thanks to them the bed takes on the contours of a car. They are made from chipboard, plywood, MDF or wood - it all depends on financial opportunities and features of the selected model of children's bed-car.

There can be many assembly options:

  • Installation of flat simple panels, when the resemblance to a real car is achieved by drawing the headlights.
  • Dismantling the entire structure into small parts to simulate a bumper.

A do-it-yourself children's bed-car is made in two ways:

  1. If all the component parts are installed on a frame, then they do not have to be too strong. In this case, they are made from chipboard or plywood 1 cm thick.
  2. If the frame acts as a bed frame, then you will need MDF, chipboard or wood at least 1.8 cm thick.

Important! In both cases, all parts of the machine bed are cut out using electric jigsaw, are thoroughly cleaned, the edges are processed with a milling cutter. Sections must be sealed with plastic edges or heat-resistant tape.

Additional car bed parts

It is impossible to imagine a car without such essential accessories as wheels and a steering wheel. Unfortunately, most car beds do not have them, which is certainly disappointing for kids. Therefore, when assembling a car bed with your own hands, take note of the following ideas:

  • Wheels are usually glued or painted. But to make wheels for a car bed, you can cut the wheels out of plywood, reinforce the contours with plywood overlays that imitate the convexity of the tires, and cover the ends with an edge. They are mounted stationary or they rotate freely. The backs and sides of the children's car bed are painted in bright colors to achieve maximum resemblance to the real car.
  • If you have experience in development electrical diagrams, then you can equip the car bed with headlights from spotlights. Or it’s even easier to do - attach along the contours of the wheels and the contour of the sidewalls LED strip. No additional knowledge is needed here - just assemble the tape of the required length, then attach the adapter.

Important! The car bed should be pasted over or painted before it is assembled.

Required tools and materials

The range of materials today is quite large, but Special attention During the purchasing process you should pay attention to the class. To make a reliable and safe car bed with your own hands, you need to purchase the following:

  • Fiberboards of class E1 and E0.
  • Wooden beam treated with antiseptic.
  • MDF sheets, chipboard, plywood, wood furniture board. Just a few sheets are enough to assemble a children's bed.
  • Hex key, confirmations.
  • Drill for furniture screed.
  • Rollers for moving the bed or its individual parts.
  • Nails, wood screws.

Important! You will also have to rent or borrow from friends an electric jigsaw, a wood saw, an electric drill, and a screwdriver. A ruler, a pencil, brushes, a tape measure, a can of spray paint, and sandpaper will be useful in assembling the bed machine.

Making children's furniture with your own hands

A car bed for a boy is assembled with his own hands using a simple technology that does not require special knowledge, skills, or the help of specialists:

  • At the first stage, assemble the frame in the form of a box or frame, with crossbars or partitions. All parts are attached using nails or self-tapping screws.
  • Cut out the back and sides of the car bed. It is better to cut the second part not according to the template - use the first blank for this to get complete symmetry. Then all parts must be sanded with sandpaper and edged.

Important! Remember that no protrusions or sharp edges are allowed here.

  • Make a rough assembly of the children's bed-car in order to identify and eliminate possible shortcomings. If everything is good, you can disassemble the bed, further decorate it according to the project, paint it, tape it up.
  • Once the bed is dry, reassemble it. Then fix all the parts on the frame with self-tapping screws, and connect them together with confirmations. The heads of the screws are painted in the desired color. Next, you can attach the rollers to the bottom of the frame.

Important! Last step assembling a car bed with your own hands consists of decorative finishing and overhead wheels are installed, lighting is mounted under the machine, stickers are glued. IN last resort the slatted bottom is laid.

Here's how to make a bed your son will love. I made this bed machine for my son's third birthday. The goal in creating a cool dump truck bed was so that my son would give up his crib for his 6 month old sister without a fight. My daughter is outgrowing her crib so quickly that I don't want to buy another crib that will only be used for a couple of months. My wife and I were looking for a bed to buy in the store, but they were all shabby-looking chipboard. So I decided that my son would sleep in makeshift bed, in the coolest dump truck he'd ever seen.

This was my first project working with MDF and I was pleasantly surprised. It has several disadvantages compared to solid wood or plywood. The slab is very heavy compared to its strength and generates dust very well. Dust has settled on absolutely every square inch of my garage.

Step 1: Specifications and Features of this Fully Equipped Truck

Dimensions 101 x 49 x 60 inches. It has a double mattress, with plenty of options for your precious son. The truck itself has a real tilt steering column, horn, turn signals and flashing lights. Headlights, turn signals, parking lights, dome lights, cargo clearance and hazard lights are all LEDs for a total of 242 pieces. Roughly 203 feet of wire runs through the truck and power is turned on by keying the power switch on dashboard. The storage area is about 45 cubic feet under the mattress. Both doors open and close on industrial stainless steel hinges. I think it's about 650 pounds because I broke the casters on my furniture cargo dolly.

Step 2: Tools, Safety and Materials Kit

Required tools:

Circular saw, miter box, reciprocating saw, grinding machine, hand sander, drill, brush or roller.

Optional equipment:

Workbench, hand saw, nail gun, paint sprayer.

Safety:

Always wear a respirator or preferably a face mask when cutting MDF,
Protective glasses.

Materials:

2 sheets of ¾" chipboard £75 each
2 sheets ½" MDF 60 lbs each
3.5 sheets ¾" MDF 90 lbs each
2 sheets of 5/8" MDF 75 lbs each
2 sets of piano hinges
24 pcs. 14-20 T nuts
2 ½" diameter aluminum rod
8 3" ¼ 20 wood bolts
16 1" ¼ 20 wood bolts
4 1 ½" ¼ 20 wood bolts
1 box 1" screws
1 box 1 1/2" screws
1 gallon safety yellow paint
1 quart black paint
1 quart silver paint
1 gallon of soil
2 cans of primer
2 cans of black tool paint.

Additional materials:

Steering column and wheels
Lights, switches, wires, power supply
Hub caps
Beep/beep.

Step 3: Getting Started

Base

The base consists of 6 large parts. The top and bottom parts are the same size. See picture. The resting mattress will be on the top and the bottom will be the floor in the storage area. The tops and bottoms are made from 3/4" laminated chipboard for easy cleaning and a smooth sliding surface. These pieces should be cut 2" larger than the mattress. Make sure you measure the actual size of the mattress. I measured the mattress on the salon floor thinking that it would be the same, but it was 1 ¼" different in width. Based on this measurement, the sides and ends can be determined. 5/8" MDF was used on the sides and ¾" MDF on the ends. You need to make a hole in the rear end piece to access the junk storage area. The tops and bottoms rest on 1 ½" strips of ¾" MDF attached to the end and sides with glue and 1" screws.

A children's bed in the shape of a car is probably the dream of every child from 0 to 90 years old :). After all, men are the same as children, which is why some of them one fine day decide to make a car bed for their son with their own hands.

These dads are so skilled that their products are of a factory-quality quality, and words cannot express how much joy there is from such creativity!

While mommies are doing easier crafts (for example, making), dads are rolling up their sleeves with all their might.

How to make a children's bed?

Today we will show, using the example of Alexey Neplyuev from Krasnodar, how to make your child’s dream come true by arranging for him a sleeping place in the form of a vehicle.

You will have to sweat and spend some time and money, but all this will pay off handsomely when you see the smile of your son or daughter.

What materials are needed to make children's furniture? Usually home craftsmen buy sheets of chipboard or MDF. Their thickness varies, you will need 1-2 sheets, depending on the size of the machine. If you find a thick piece of plywood or furniture board made of natural wood, then the bed will turn out to be environmentally friendly!

DIY children's bed

Buy orthopedic mattress and sew a cover on it so that it lasts as long as possible. Prepare tools, nails, screws, etc. You will also need spray paint to paint the product. The one that won't suit you. Alexey, judging by the photo, used real headlights for the car, but you can get by with a symbolic image-drawing.

From the photographs you will understand the entire process of transforming ordinary parts into a super-vehicle for baby sleep and games.

This children's car bed furniture will look especially amazing if you attach diode lighting to it and place it on the bottom of the product. Just don’t forget to come up with a product switch!

Probably, now your child will happily run to bed as soon as he hears your request: “It’s time to go to bed!”

Your child has already grown up and the playpen has become too small for him. This means it's time to buy a new bed. Agree, it’s not at all interesting to sleep in an ordinary bed. It's much more interesting to fall asleep in a crib that resembles a racing car. Such a children's bed will be a real gift for a child, and every evening he will fall asleep in it with great pleasure.

In specialized furniture stores you can find a wide range of various designs, which are shaped like rocket beds, cars and beds made in the shape of fairy-tale characters. Such beautiful bed masterpieces are very expensive. But the high price does not always compensate for the quality. Making such a bed yourself will not be difficult.

Even if you have no experience working with carpentry tools, if you really want to, you can master them and make a car bed for your beloved baby with your own hands. A car-shaped bed is more suitable for a boy.

Important! If in the process of work you actively “collaborate” with your son (grandson or nephew), consult with him what color the future car will be, what additional elements contribute to give the product originality - the child will be very happy to help. You'll see, then he will be proud of his original bed and use it carefully.

What is necessary

First of all, you should decide whether you will make a complete car or whether it will be easier for you to remake an old crib.

If you already have a bed with wooden base- Great. All you have to do is add a little decorative elements, which are cut out of plywood, then paint them and attach small elements of the vehicle.

Another question is if you need to make a bed yourself “from scratch”. To begin with, a frame is built that can withstand any load, since in addition to the fact that the child will lie in the crib, he will also jump on it with joy, and also go on a trip with friends.

And another option is to buy a ready-made metal or wooden frame on legs, and then “dress” a pre-prepared decorative car cover on it.

Sketch

After you have decided that you will make the car from the very beginning, you need to find a photo of a bed on the Internet that you and your son will like. Print the image and start creating a sketch.

A sketch is necessary so that during the work you can clearly see how to make a car and determine the consumption of materials. It should show the bed from all sides: front, back and sides. Don't forget to transfer the actual dimensions. Also keep in mind that the sides of the future crib should not be low, since if there is insufficient protection on the sides, the child may roll out of the bed during sleep. Do not make very high sides, because it will be uncomfortable for the child to climb into it.

Materials

Approximate drawing of a car-shaped bed:

According to the drawing, the bed consists of the following elements:

  • sides (car body);
  • drawer for small items (on the side of the bed);
  • small shelf (rear spoiler);
  • in the hood there are one or two drawers for toys.

Take the choice of material for your future bed with full responsibility:

  • materials that are used to assemble furniture with your own hands - sheets of MDF or chipboard. The sheets have different thickness and color. Standard sizes sheet - 2700 by 1830 millimeters. Depending on the size and details of the future bed, you will need one or two sheets;
  • if you think that furniture sheets can harm a child’s health, you can use furniture boards made of natural wood, as well as plywood, instead;
  • prepare a beam 50 by 70 millimeters - take 4 planks;
  • Euroscrews and Euroscrews are special furniture devices that vaguely resemble self-tapping screws. The dimensions of the fastener are 7 by 70 millimeters and 6.3 by 50 millimeters;
  • special nozzle and key for fastening;
  • drills of the required diameter;
  • rollers for moving the crib;
  • nails (120 mm) and self-tapping screws;
  • dye;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • spray bottle or paint brush;
  • orthopedic mattress;
  • covering fabric sleeping place.

Making the base

Let's start building the bed frame in the form of a car. The frame must be as strong as possible, because children do not use the bed for its intended purpose. During the day they love to jump on the bed. Therefore, to enhance strength it is used wooden beam. It is advisable to cut it to the dimensions of the sketch immediately upon purchase.

The base parts are connected to each other with self-tapping screws, screws or nails. You must immediately drill holes in the timber for the screws with an electric drill, because otherwise it may burst. Plywood or a furniture sheet is placed on top of the frame, which will serve as a support for the mattress.

Cutting sheets

After creating the base, you can begin cutting the sheets. There are two cutting options:

  1. If you are not good with a computer and do not understand graphics, then make templates for the sides, front and back of the car by hand. If you are good at drawing, you can immediately make templates by hand. If that doesn’t work, print out the sketch of the model and enlarge it to the required size. Of course, this will take quite a lot of time, because you will have to distribute the blanks and glue them onto the leaves until you get the actual size. Then the template is placed on a sheet of plywood and outlined with a marker. Using an electric jigsaw, the parts of the future car bed are cut out. If you have planned a complex painting, then at the same time you can make templates for painting the product.
  2. If you know how to work with graphics programs, then all you need to do is make a drawing (vector). Next, the file is printed and the sheets are glued together. You can also provide an electronic layout to a furniture company, which will cut the parts using special equipment.

Don’t forget to sand the ends of each part (or cover them with protective tape). After this, you can drill all the holes at once with a drill (for confirmation).

Painting the details

Before painting the parts, pre-assemble the bed. Assembly will allow you to identify possible distortions, defects, inconsistencies in parts and eliminate inaccuracies.

If the assembly shows that all the parts “sit” in their places, then the bed is disassembled and begins to be painted. To ensure that the paint goes on evenly, it is advisable to work with a spray bottle or purchase paint in cans. Of course, you can paint the parts with a brush, but then you need experience, because the paint needs to be applied several times, and then also varnished.

Try not to work in a residential area, because painting the parts of the future bed will take several days.

Assembly

When all the painted parts have dried, you can begin assembling the crib.

We act according to plan:

  1. We screw the rollers to the frame at the bottom.
  2. We fix all the parts on each side to the frame.
  3. To disguise the heads of the screws, you can paint them over with paint or purchase furniture “hats” to match the car.
  4. We lay a pre-purchased mattress on slats or plywood. We put a waterproof cover on it (if necessary) or wrap the mattress thick fabric or a blanket.
  5. We attach small parts to the car.

That's all, the car-shaped bed is ready! There are a few more things that can be added: lights for the bottom and headlights. If you know a little about electrical wires, then making the backlight will not be difficult. In addition, if you decide to stretch the wires, then do it in advance, at the first stage - when cutting the material.

If desired, you can make real headlights. To create them, you need to purchase reflective paper (or foil), as well as tape with diodes.

Shown in the photo step-by-step assembly headlights.

If you put real car glass on a finished headlight, it will not be easy to distinguish a toy headlight from a real one.

And this photo shows an option for mounting the LED backlight.

This is what it looks like finished bed machine with light:

The photo shows the machine bed options:

And such a bed will definitely appeal to twins or the same age:

And girls will be interested in playing and sleeping in such a crib:

This video will allow you to learn more about how to make a bed machine:

My son grew up and no longer fit into his first crib, and secretly from my wife and family, I decided to make it myself.

Having rummaged around on the Internet I found very interesting project car beds, sleeping space dimensions 70x160, just what I wanted.

I downloaded the furniture planning program and opened the project.

Everything can be twisted and turned and, most importantly, there are all sizes!

My eyes lit up, my hands itched =)

My task was a bed made from environmentally friendly materials

I chose the 18mm furniture board from coniferous species(pine, spruce)

I estimated the volumes of parts on a squared sheet of paper and decided to buy two panels 1x2m and three 0.6x2m, it seemed like it should be enough =) even with a small margin, if I suddenly mess up.

Honestly, I went around a lot of building materials in search of the right size. Of course, I could safely order it on the Internet, but I wanted to feel with my hands what I was buying and how durable it was.

Having successfully unloaded this stuff in my best friend’s garage, I went home to rack my brains over the question of how to transfer these forms to pieces of wood.

After several hours of dancing, a tambourine and a printer, we managed to print out many, many A4 sheets with details. The scale on the monitor screen, bastard, did not coincide with what was printed on paper. Thank you very much ruler attached to the screen and the math teacher, I remembered the proportions of multiplication and division)

Armed with a stapler, a glue stick and a flashlight, I put together the printouts of the parts.

cut it out and transfer it to our furniture panel

Using the means at hand, we invent a compass 😉 use a tape measure to estimate the required radius and... wow, the circle is ready.

put a paper star on it to make a wheel

we drill holes so that the jigsaw blade can pass through and saw

The star on the disk is asymmetrical, that’s how it was in the design, I didn’t change it

I’ll add that it’s better to cut with a special file for figured carvings, others begin to get very hot, the wood smokes and burns in places of strong curves

We assemble the frame of our bed from 50x50mm bars, according to the project.

Everything we cut will be attached to it

I didn’t take pictures of the rest of the sawing - it’s not very interesting

There were a lot of details, I signed it so as not to get confused 😉

Finally the day of assembly has come, we assemble the front drawer, screw on the piano hinge

I fastened all the parts with 5*50mm furniture companies, we drilled them with a special drill for these companies, bought where they were.

Apply the trim roughly, align it logically and screw it onto the yellow screws; for clarity, screw the wheels

screw on the spoiler and backrest

The sander was good only on long and more or less even parts, the rest was done by hand.

Having spent 4 weekends on the skin, next step there was painting

I chose acrylic eco-enamel for furniture and added color “ green apple“, I started stirring first with a screwdriver, then with a larger stick, in the process, to put it mildly, I was all hesitant and, showing ingenuity, I stuck the bent electrode from welding into the drill 😉 It was stirred with Hurray!

The drying rack previously assembled from an iron cabinet was also useful for painting. various kinds pieces, the heating elements below are red from the microwave oven)

The paint dried instantly - the temperature was about 60 degrees

when two layers of paint have dried, try on the overlay, trace the outline with a pencil, draw according masking tape glass by hand

paint in 1 layer, dry...

I spray-painted the wheels first completely in silver, after applying a circle of cardboard in the same spray-painted black color, ala tires

I forgot to write that I sanded the wheels longer than anything else, “filling up” one edge of each beam with a file, who the hell knows why 😉 it’s more fun this way

The frame made of bars was also covered with dark paint, the color is interesting, lighter than black, slightly blue, reminiscent of graphite

I’m happy with the work done, smiling as I finish my beer, I can already see what’s coming out 😉

On top there is 12mm plywood, kindly provided by my grandfather and cut to size by him.

so as not to spoil the surprise, my friend and I ram this heavy thing into his apartment, first they barely pushed it into the car, and then to the 3rd floor 😉

we modify the roll-out drawer locally, 4 below furniture roller, on the sides, 2 on each side. Here a small jamb appeared, having screwed the rollers on the sides there were decent gaps relative to the base, rubber bands for taps from the times of the USSR were used. It turned out very well, the box slides in smoothly, the rubber bands also serve as a damper

The mattress was ordered during the assembly process to size, natural latex, natural jacquard on top and medium firmness.

I ordered Ferrari logos printed on adhesive paper from a printing house, covered acrylic varnish from a can

It's already home =) My son was very pleased, it was only for the sake of the first moment of joy that he started all this! It's indescribable.

Thank you all for your attention!

P.S. if anyone is interested, about 17 thousand rubles were spent on materials + mattress, and 2 months of my free time on weekends)
