Do-it-yourself massive wooden table. How to make a wooden table with your own hands. Country style table

There is none home handyman who would not want to assemble a wooden table with his own hands, and this desire does not depend on gender and age. It is important to comply with many aspects so that the result of the work is truly high-quality.

Figure 1. Diagram of a wooden table with legs in the form of crosses.

In the beginning there was a tree

Initially, the type of table is selected, and then the material with which the work will be carried out. Tables are different (Fig. 1, 2 and 3), and in each individual case different materials are used.

Chipboard is the cheapest and easiest to work with, which is why it enjoys the highest popularity. The thickness usually ranges from 1.5-3 cm, the color range is limited only by imagination, and the density depends on preference. But chipboard also has its drawbacks: low strength indicators, all colors are of artificial origin (even if desired, you cannot stylize them as original wood), as well as harmful chemical emissions from non-laminated areas.

The array, in turn, is the least popular due to its high cost. In this case, the work is quick and easy, because the cut just needs to be shaped to form a tabletop, after which you can mount it, and the shapes can be from simple to the most intricate.

Figure 2. Diagram coffee table.

Edged boards and timber are the main elements that are present in most cases as supporting structure, but sometimes they are used as the main material, which makes the work much more difficult, but the result is much more interesting.

It is the table made of boards and timber that will be considered as an example, because By starting with the complex, you can easily learn to do the simple.

Work activity

Tools and materials:

  • jigsaw;
  • sander;
  • screwdriver;
  • roulette;
  • beam;
  • bar;
  • edged board;
  • rail;
  • steel corners;
  • furniture plugs;
  • stain and varnish;
  • flat brush.

Initially, you need to decide on the dimensions of the future table, and only after that start cutting. Let the table have a standard height of 110 cm, width of 90 cm and length of 150 cm, although any of the given data can be changed depending on your desire. And after an accurate determination, you can start cutting:

  • timber 75*75 mm – 4 pcs. 105 cm each;
  • block 45*80 mm – 2 pcs. 75 cm and 2 pcs. 135 cm each;
  • edged board 50*150 mm – 6 pcs. 135 cm and 1 pc. 90 cm;
  • wooden slats 10*40 mm – 5 pcs. 145 and 2 pcs. 85 cm each.

After the cutting is completed, each working element must be thoroughly sanded with a grinder or sandpaper, and all remaining dust must be collected with a barely damp sponge. The top of the wood is covered with an antiseptic solution against moisture and insects, and only after completely dry you can continue working.

Figure 3. Assembly diagram of the round table.

To begin with, a support structure is formed from beams and beams. To connect them, you will have to round the bars at the ends by 2.5 cm, and make a round holes with a corresponding diameter to a depth of 2.5 cm. They should be joined with some force, but it is still advisable to pour wood glue inside (a few drops at the very bottom).

The tabletop is much more difficult to make, because... First, you need to cut a 90 cm board exactly in half lengthwise. Between the resulting 2 cuts, all the rest are laid alternately. The result is a tabletop that is formed, but not yet interlocked.

6 wide holes are made in the front and back boards to a depth of 2.5-3 cm, and all holes should be located exactly in the center of those boards that are on the other side. After this, full-fledged holes are made with a thin drill to the depth of the screw, and if this is not done, then it is highly likely that the wood will split.

Galvanized screws are used for coupling, because they are not subject to rust, and for wood this is very important. A strip is screwed from below onto all joints, and the fixation is made in a checkerboard pattern with a step of 20 cm for longitudinal ones, and in pairs on each board for transverse ones. Thanks to this, the countertop is no longer afraid of anything.

At the very end, all that remains is to combine the legs and tabletop into 1 structure, for which dowels and steel furniture corners are used. When making a joint on the dowels, you will again have to use glue, and then press down on the table with a load of 20-30 kg for 5-6 hours so that everything is fixed in this position. The corners, in turn, will act as a control fixation.

At the very end, plugs of the desired color are placed on the heads of all visible screws.

Shutdown and additional considerations

After you have managed to assemble the table with your own hands, you need to completely cover it with varnish and stain. What is especially important in this case is the ability to give the appearance of any breed. The varnish takes 30-36 hours to dry, so after coating you need to leave it finished work exactly at this time. Often misleading is the fact that after 4-5 hours there is no longer any smell, and the fingers completely stop sticking, but at the same time, harmful chemical compounds still continue to be released into the environment.

For forming holes large diameter special drill attachments and drill bits are used on drills, and they not only allow you to form inner circuit, but also cut out the outer one.

Before making a wooden table, you need to set aside 1-2 free days for the entire process, because... it would be very inappropriate to interrupt. Sometimes errors and shortcomings occur during work, but this is within normal limits, so you need to have a 10-15% supply of all materials.

In total, with a full hand, the table is made in 1 day, after which it is dried, and you can begin to use it.

An ordinary table can be safely classified as furniture necessary in the home. This item can, of course, simply be purchased in a store. But it's not hard to make a good one good table with your own hands.

The last option is most often chosen by homeowners.

Making a table from boards with your own hands

As the simplest option, you can consider in detail the manufacture of a table with a length of 120 cm, a height of 75 cm, a width of 70 cm. For it you need to prepare the following materials:

  • boards 40X140 mm, planed and trimmed, or floor slats suitable size - for example, 36X135 mm;
  • a pair of bars with a cross-section of 40X60 mm, length 70 cm;
  • 4 furniture screws 10 cm long, with a diameter of 8-10 mm and a flat head;
  • jigsaw or hacksaw;
  • chisel;
  • plane;
  • a grinder or a block with sandpaper attached to it;
  • screwdriver and drill set.

Vintage wooden table option (dimensions in inches).

To make a tabletop, you will need to proceed as follows.

The tabletop must be assembled from five boards cut to size. They should be attached to the bars using self-tapping screws.

For self-tapping screws, the length must be selected so that the tabletop board with their help is securely attached to the bars, and they should not pass through. When using a tongue and groove board, the tabletop is assembled solid, but with last board It’s better to remove the tongue from the edge using a jigsaw and plan the side.

If you use a regular planed board, when assembling the tabletop it is better to leave a gap of about 3-4 mm, especially if the table is intended for a summer residence. Such a gap does not interfere with the use of the table, but it greatly facilitates maintenance and does not allow dirt to accumulate in those places where the boards adjoin one another, making up the tabletop. It is very simple to ensure that the gaps are identical: when assembling the tabletop, you need to lay a strip with the required width between the boards or use a metal corner.

Legs for structure

The legs are made from the same material as the tabletop. For one leg, both parts will be connected “half a tree”. Boards for making legs are marked as follows:

  • You need to draw a rectangle on a sheet of fiberboard or plywood. Its dimensions are determined by the formula “A”X600 mm. Here A=750 – b (that is, the thickness of the tabletop, calculated in millimeters);
  • The board is placed diagonally across the rectangle so that different edges the boards were in opposite corners. Now you can mark the line along which you will need to cut the boards, the “junction” on one and the other boards.

After marking the parts of the legs, they are cut to length, and a selection of half a tree is made on each. Next, everything is adjusted and assembled using PVA glue with the addition of small sawdust and several screws. After the legs of the table are assembled, they must be attached to the bars of the tabletop using furniture screws; a stiffening rib must be strengthened between the legs - this is done using long self-tapping screws. You can cover both ends of the tabletop with bars; to secure them, use nails whose heads have been previously “bitten off”. They should be sunk into the wood with one blow of the hammer.

Almost ready. It is highly advisable to color the product. To do this, you can use stain or clear water-based acrylic varnish. This ensures protection from precipitation and external influences.

Classic wooden product

For those who prefer classic shapes, we can suggest making just such a table. The following materials will be required:

  • 4 pieces of timber with a length of 710 mm, section 10X10 cm;
  • board with a section of 10X2 cm, cut as follows: two pieces of 800 mm, two of 1600 mm, two of 750 mm;
  • four boards with a section of 250X40 mm, length 2 m.

The manufacture of table parts is carried out as follows. The wooden tabletop will need to be rounded on both sides. To make the markings, taking into account the fact that all the details are made by hand, you can use the most ordinary gymnastic hoop or an object of a similar shape. It is placed on boards stacked tightly against each other - first at one end, then at the other. According to the markings, the boards are cut using a jigsaw.

All the details of the table have now taken the form necessary to continue the work. They are cleaned using coarse sandpaper, then the surface is sanded and impregnated with stain two or three times.

Assembly must be performed in the following sequence:

  • The base box is assembled from parts whose width is 1600 and 800 mm. For fastening, galvanized self-tapping screws 4X60 are used. Before assembly, the joints are properly treated using waterproof PVA glue or a good carpenter's adhesive. Short parts of the box must be attached to the end of the longer one;
  • boards for making tabletops must be laid out on flat surface. The prepared box is placed on top - it must be centered and its internal contour drawn with a pencil. After this, the box is removed;
  • in the outlined contour itself, an indentation of 110 mm is made from the corners - this is the place for the table legs. Next, using glue and galvanized screws 4X45, boards are attached to the tabletop, which will ensure the integrity of the tabletop;
  • the box is placed on the tabletop, while the pre-made contour must be taken into account. The parts are fastened with self-tapping screws, and steel corners must be used. The place where the table legs will be installed must be left free;
  • the legs are installed in the corners of the box, fixed with glue, with outside screwed using self-tapping screws. The strength and durability of the structure largely depend on how tightly the table leg is placed in the corner of the box. Therefore, before using self-tapping screws, it is better to secure the leg in the corner in any convenient way. The table is ready with your own hands.

You can start using the table when the wood glue dries and the structure acquires the necessary strength.

As you know, a table is needed in every home. Currently in stores there are very a large number of different options:

  • dining;
  • kitchen;
  • garden (for a summer house or private house);
  • transformer;
  • big;
  • small;
  • round;
  • rectangular;
  • square and so on.

However, many people want to make this piece of furniture themselves, especially since simple models require minimal tool skills.

Before you start working directly, you should prepare some
tools, as well as select materials. Let's take a closer look at these very important points. If you are planning to make a simple wooden table, then in this case a regular carpentry set (plane, chisels) and several saws (bow saw, for veneer cutting, tenon saw, hand saw) and a hacksaw will be quite sufficient. More fine work with elaborate shapes will require additional tools. This is, in particular, electric jigsaw, Sander, milling cutter In order to facilitate the process of corner cutting, you will need a miter box.

It is also important to choose the right material. In the absence of serious work experience, it is better to take cheaper wood, since you will need some supply “just in case.” For the manufacture of countertops, characteristics such as strength and moisture absorption are of particular importance. Most the best option there will be larch or pine at least 3 centimeters thick. However, if funds allow, the tabletop can also be made from oak. For compact tables, slabs made from wood - OSB, chipboard, and so on - are quite suitable.

Birch is best suited for making legs. The thing is that this wood has a very good performance strength at a relatively low price.
However, you definitely need to take care of moisture resistance - we’ll talk about this a little below. Most optimal parameters for the legs - a section of 5 by 5 and a length of approximately 76 centimeters. Dowels are best made from acacia. When choosing boards, be sure to inspect them carefully. Those that have a wormhole, falling knots, cracks or rot should be immediately rejected.

The structure will not be strong without reliable fasteners. Therefore, their choice must also be approached with full responsibility. Let us warn you right away - nails are not suitable in this case. Firstly, when using them, it is very difficult to place the leg strictly vertically. Secondly, the nail easily pricks dry wood, and for making furniture you need to take exactly this kind. Thirdly, such a product will be very difficult to repair, because dismantling fasteners is almost always accompanied by damage to adjacent parts.

Therefore, to make a wooden table you need to use dowels set with glue or self-tapping screws. If the structure requires additional reinforcement, then the best option would be corners, brackets, and metal strips. If planned collapsible design, then it is better to connect it with drawers.

It should be noted that the table should not only be reliable, but also practical. Of no small importance is its appearance. Therefore, you should also take care of these points. In particular, it is possible to protect the table from rotting with the help of waste machine oil. This product is not only effective, but you can also get it completely free. It’s also a good idea to use a natural product - linseed oil. It protects the table well from fungus and mold. These are not all options. Will protect your product well acrylic varnishes or water-polymer emulsion.

To give the table an attractive appearance, you can use paint. Just make sure when purchasing that you intend to paint the wood. Another very common option is stains. The choice of these funds today is very wide, so there will be no problems with purchasing. Tables covered with tinting varnish look very nice. Generally speaking, you can give the table any shade. In this case, you can even conduct several experiments, taking some kind of rejected board.

The next stage is to decide on the design of the table. It is simply impossible to describe in detail all the possible options here, so we will focus on the simplest. It's about about a regular stationary rectangular table. All parts here must be fixed rigidly - this ensures the required strength. You will need to make 3 main parts - a tabletop, a base and 4 legs. First, of course, you should decide on the size. If the table is small, then it is quite appropriate to take a solid tabletop, cutting it out of an OSB board.

The underframe is wooden frame. It is to this that we will attach the legs. The latter are easiest to make from timber with a square cross-section the right size. That is, you will only need to cut 4 legs to the required length. After this, all that remains is to connect all the elements of the table together. At the final stage, take care to protect the structure made by your own hands, and also give it the desired color. As you can see, there really is nothing complicated here.

Well, in conclusion I would like to give some advice. In particular, if you plan to assemble using self-tapping screws, you will first need to make holes in the wood with a drill of a slightly larger diameter. When using an abrasive, first take the coarse one, and then the fine one.

You need to be prepared for the fact that multiple sanding will be required. Here, a lot depends on the type of wood and the quality of drying of the material. Chips and cracks can be easily removed using putty. Wood dust after sanding is removed with a vacuum cleaner. After this, it is recommended to wipe the product with a damp cloth. Well, the most main advice The idea is that you need to move on to making complex products only after you can confidently handle simple ones.

What tools are needed to make a wooden table with your own hands?

It doesn’t matter what shape the future table will be: working with wood requires a certain set of tools. You can’t do without a jigsaw, and it will be much easier to work with electric model. To secure all structural elements, use either a drill with a multi-stage drill for holes, or confirmations. To polish the product to perfection, you need a special attachment for a drill.

For greater fastening strength, the tools include wood glue.

How to make a wooden table with your own hands - step-by-step instructions

We have selected four types of structures that can be made on your own, even with a minimum of carpentry skills. We invite you to learn about the stages of manufacturing round and rectangular table, coffee table and model for garden gazebo.

Making a wooden round table

Easiest to do round table top and a connecting ring of or dimensions 1500 × 1500 mm and 1280 × 1280 mm. You will also need two laminated chipboard strips (1110 × 120 × 25 mm). We will make the legs from four wooden blocks measuring 120 × 50 × 750 mm.

How to make a countertop

How to draw a circle perfectly straight? Place your own on a sheet of plywood in the center thumb hands with a string attached to it with a pencil. The length of the rope from the base to the top should coincide with the radius of the future tabletop. Holding your finger in one place, draw a circle around the full length of the rope with a pencil. All that remains is to cut it out with a jigsaw.

The underframe circle is cut out in the same way.

Making legs

A round table made of wood or chipboard will look charming if you do everything consistently. You won’t have to bother with the legs if your plans aren’t too original. The bars are divided into 4 parts according to the desired size of the table height minus the thickness of the table top. First, one leg is cut off, and the other three are aligned along it.

All processing grinder is carried out immediately.

Advice! You shouldn’t rush into sanding, as the first coat of varnish will reveal all the imperfections.

Assembly of the structure and processing of the finished product

Assembly is carried out in stages. First, align the planks groove to groove. Then the crosspiece of the planks is connected to the legs with confirmations, as in the figure below:

If you want to make the structure stronger, before connecting the legs to the tabletop, coat their upper base with glue.

Advice! Nails are not used in such work: a self-tapping screw or confirmat can be unscrewed without problems, and the connections will be much stronger.

Making a rectangular wooden kitchen table

The rectangular design is classic and very useful in everyday life: it is convenient to cook on such a table and you can comfortably dine at it.

How to make a countertop

A wooden tabletop for a table is made either from a whole sheet of plywood, or from individual edged boards processed to perfect smoothness.

Having fastened the boards with screws and glue, they begin to make the frame.

Making wooden legs for a table and frame

At the heart of the quadrangular models is a frame. It serves to securely fix the legs, ensuring the stability of the entire structure. The tabletop is turned over, a depth of 3-4 cm is measured on each side and the measurements are transferred to the boards. As a result, you will need two boards of shorter length and two longer.

The frame is made of four elements: according to the approximate ratio, these are two boards of X cm and two of 2X cm. They are connected to each other with an overlap one by one, building a rectangle. In order not to break the 90° angle, use any board when working with a screwdriver: it is used to press the structure while tightening the screws.

As soon as the frame box is ready, they begin to make the legs. You can take ready-made balusters for the table, buy metal supports or cut them out of bars according to the desired length according to the drawing.

Both the frame and the legs are subject to mandatory thorough sanding!

Product installation and final finishing

The frame is screwed to the tabletop with glue or self-tapping screws. Then the product is turned over and the legs begin to be attached.

Important! It's better to make holes for the screws in advance. This eliminates the possibility of the wood splitting.

Why don't they use nails and a hammer? Not everyone has the skills to work with a hammer - it’s not only dangerous to hit your finger. Overdoing it can easily damage the wood by splitting it. Confirmations and self-tapping screws hold the tree much more firmly.

As soon as the leg is secured, the angle is immediately checked: there should be no deviation from 90°. The operation is repeated with other legs. You can attach the legs directly through the tabletop, but this will affect the aesthetic component of the product.

Making your own wooden coffee table

Not only a beautiful interior element, but also a useful one. There is no need to look for a visible place to put a book, gadget, glasses, or TV remote control. Such necessary designs made from different materials: metal, glass, plastic, chipboard, wood. But let's leave other materials alone and concentrate on working with wood.

Choice wooden table top for the table depends on the expectations of the owner of the product. Some people want something massive, while others prefer lighter options. Let's stick to a simple solution.

We purchase five boards 30 × 150 mm and process them to perfect smoothness. We cut it straight onto the tabletop desired length: You should get 6 identical canvases. We take four bars for the legs, 6 shorter pieces for the lower tabletop, and 4 narrow slats for the frame.

IllustrationDescription of action
To brush wood, use a grinder with a brass brush attachment. The procedure will expose the structure of the wood, giving the product a special flavor.
We go back and forth along each board on the side that will be the front.
We treat the wood with fire. The flame is gradually moved from place to place: the board will acquire a beautiful darkish tint. The procedure will completely destroy unnecessary soft fibers wood We actively wipe the entire surface with a felt boot or a piece of felt.

Let's start the assembly process small table with your own hands made of wood.

  1. The lower and upper tabletops are laid on work surface wrong side towards you. The boards are laid tightly together, gluing them together. Once the boards have set, slats are attached to the top tabletop. They will serve as a frame and fastening element. They can be glued or screwed with self-tapping screws. The self-tapping screw is screwed into the center of the slats into each of the boards.
  2. The legs are screwed to both the tabletop and the slats. You can use furniture corners.

Making your own wooden table with benches for a gazebo

It's time to take the time and build a wooden garden table.

It's best to take boards standard sizes. IN hardware store Studs (suitable with a length of 16 cm), washers (24 pieces) are purchased. For a garden gazebo, long nails (8 cm) will do.

Whether to paint a product or simply varnish it is a matter of taste.

Friends asked me to make a table that can be placed in a gazebo at the dacha. To make your own table from timber special option I didn’t choose the project, but suggested it simple diagram assembling furniture from standard wood lumber: timber and boards. The main idea was that the table should be low and could also serve as a bench. I had all the tools and equipment in the workshop. All that remained was to check and prepare workplace to make a table from timber with your own hands.

Tools

Since the structure must be made of wood, the tool was mainly needed for woodworking. Here's what I used to make my own timber table:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • gas-burner;
  • drill-driver;
  • wrench with socket head;
  • chisels;
  • reamer drill ø 2 cm;
  • hammer;
  • hacksaw;
  • clamps – 2 pcs.;
  • cutting die external threadø 6 mm;
  • sander;
  • roulette;
  • brushes

Materials

I went to a construction supermarket and bought the following:

  • varnish PF 170 – 0.5 l.;
  • wood glue;
  • screws 7 cm, 50 cm, washers and nuts, plastic plugs.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make a wooden table from timber with your own hands

Initially I wanted to make a table with my own hands from 50 x 50 mm bars. But this idea had to be abandoned. Friends asked us to make massive furniture in the loft style. Therefore, I used larger lumber. I decided to make the table in two stages: assembling the supporting structure and forming the tabletop.

Making a countertop

  1. Wood 10 x 15 x 600 cm was divided into 6 sections with a saw.
  2. The upper corners along the perimeter of each element were cleaned with an abrasive wheel at an angle of 45 0 with a width of 0.5 cm.
  3. To make 2 through holes ø 6 mm through the tabletop, I clamped 3 pieces each with clamps and drilled them with a drill. Then I left 2 pieces and added a new element and drilled again. I did this because I didn’t have a long drill.
  4. From the outside, I expanded the holes with a ø 2 cm reamer to a depth of 1 cm.
  5. Reinforcement ø 6 mm was sawn into 2 pieces 0.9 m long.
  6. I cut threads at the ends of the studs with a die.
  7. Lateral adjacent sides wooden elements coated it with wood glue.
  8. I inserted 2 pins into the holes. I put washers on the ends of the rods and screwed the nuts.
  9. The nuts were covered with plastic plugs.

  1. I sanded all the side and horizontal surfaces with a fine abrasive wheel mounted on a grinder.
  1. Using a gas torch, I lightly burned the surface of the tabletop. This gave the wood a noble appearance, emphasizing the structural pattern of the wood cut.
  2. I treated the entire tabletop with stain using a brush.
  3. The property of this product is characterized by the fact that it penetrates deeply into the structure of the wood, strengthening and disinfecting it. But small fibers create hairiness on the furniture surface. So I sanded everything again.
  4. The surface of the table top was coated with PF 170 varnish in 2 coats.

Assembling the support structure

Before making a table from timber, I drew drawings of the supporting part and tabletop of the future furniture. According to the dimensions and dimensions specified in the drawings, I began to make the supporting structure of the table with my own hands.

  1. I made furniture legs by sawing wood 10 x 20 cm into 2 pieces 86 cm long + waste.
  2. At the top of the supports, I secured 30 x 30 mm bars with screws from the outside.
  3. I made the crossbar from a board 20 x 150 x 660 cm, securing it with screws to the centers of the sides of the supports.

  1. All outer surface burned gas burner, covered with stain, sanded.
  2. The supports were coated with PF 170 varnish in two layers.
  3. The tabletop was installed on a support frame.
  4. Using 30 x 30 mm slats, I secured the tabletop with screws.

Cost of materials

  • timber 100 x 150 x 6000 mm = 1500 rub.;
  • timber 100 x 200 x 2000 mm = 440 rubles;
  • timber 30 x 30 x 2000 mm = 50 rub.;
  • board 20 x 150 x 740 mm = 20 rubles;
  • abrasive wheels for a grinder = 50 rub.;
  • fittings with a diameter of ø 6 mm and a length of 2 m = 20 rubles;
  • nuts and washers 4 pcs. in stock;
  • sandpaper = 10 rub.;
  • stain – 0.5 l. = 100 rub.;
  • varnish PF 170 – 0.5 l. = 50 rub.;
  • wood glue 250 g = 160 rub.;
  • screws 70 mm, 50 mm available.

Total costs were: 2400 rubles.

Labor costs

The time spent on making a table from timber with your own hands according to the drawings is combined in the following table.

Taking into account technological interruptions in work, it was possible to make the table in 3 working days. Country table made of timber, made by me according to the drawings, can serve not only as a plane for arranging objects, but also be comfortable furniture for sitting. This model is attractive due to its ease of manufacture, low labor costs and practicality. When performing furniture assembly work, you must comply with all safety requirements and use personal protective equipment.
