Option number 1: making an atomizer from a ballpoint pen

A hand spray gun made from a regular pen is used to paint small parts. Spray quality depends on assembly accuracy. For this model you will need:

  • Ballpoint pen and refill
  • Container for paint - a bottle or glass jar with a wide neck will do
  • Wine cork
  • Syringe
  • Glue, alcohol, toothpick

To assemble the spray gun with your own hands, you need to disassemble the ballpoint pen and cut off the tapered end of the body - this will increase the diameter of the hole. The paste is blown out of the rod with a syringe, then the tube is washed with alcohol. For this, the nose of the syringe is warmed up and expanded with a toothpick.

A corner is cut out of the wine cork - about a quarter. Drill holes of the same diameter as the rod in the center of the base of the cork and in the cap of the bottle. Perpendicular to this hole in the thin wall of the cork, a hole is drilled horizontally under the handle body. The empty stem and handle body are inserted into the holes and pulled out perpendicularly with minimal clearance.

The rod is inserted into the cap of the bottle, to which the cork is glued. The small spray gun is ready - now you just need to blow into the pen body to start spraying paint. The whole car cannot be repainted with such a device, but spot painting will be quick and economical.

To make the sprayer easier to hold, a gun is made. You can use regular plywood. A tube with a diameter of 4 mm bends in an L-shape. One end is connected to a vacuum cleaner, on the other, a thread is made for the machined one. In one piece of plywood in the form of a pistol, a recess is made for the tube, the second remains flat. This hand held auto spray gun is made from a plastic bottle with the ability to pressurize air with a pump. It is necessary to prepare some parts and tools in advance:

  1. Plastic bottle with a volume of 0.5 liters or more
  2. Automotive nipple
  3. Old spray paint can
  4. Adhesive, auto-sealant
  5. Pump

  • Cut off the top of the spray can so that only the spray gun for the spray paint and the tube from it remains
  • Make a hole in the bottle cap for a straw
  • At a distance of 3 cm from the plug, burn a hole for the car nipple and insert it from the inside. Seal the hole with auto-sealant
  • Pour in the strained paint, screw on the spray cap

Option number 4: making a spray bottle from an aerosol can

There is nothing difficult in making a spray gun from a spray can with your own hands. The most important thing is to observe safety precautions.

Method A

You will need:

  • Seamless deodorant can with protruding spray pin
  • Syringe
  • Vinyl tube with a diameter of the syringe tip

A few simple manipulations will help you make a can of paint yourself:

  1. Remove the plastic top from the deodorant
  2. Place the vinyl tube on the syringe tip
  3. Cut the vinyl so that it fits halfway over the spray nozzle sticking out of the can - the valve should slide freely inside
  4. Refueling of paint into a can is made at the rate of no more than 1/2 of the aerosol volume
  5. Without removing the vinyl tube from the syringe, draw paint with it
  6. Place the can on a hard surface, put the free end of the vinyl on the valve, press it in with the syringe nose and pour in the liquid - this is how you can fill the can with paint the fastest, repeating the procedure several times

Now you need to create pressure inside the cartridge, that is, pump air into it.

Before pumping air, be sure to place the cylinder in a bag made of dense fabric - in case of a rupture, all the contents will remain in the bag, and your hands will not be injured.

No more than 3 atmospheres is pumped into the can. A protective tip from the syringe needle is used as an adapter. By pressing the valve into the can, you will open the air from the compressor. If the process goes well, then the paint inside will begin to gurgle. As a last resort, you can pump air with a syringe, but this will take a long time.

It remains only to put on the button from the valve. To keep your hands clean during work, you can purchase a special nozzle - a gun for a spray can of paint.

Method B

If the spray can, which is selected for the spray, does not have a protruding valve, then you can fill the spray can with paint with your own hands as follows. This will require:

  • Ball pumping needle
  • Fountain pen, peeled from paste (diameter 3 mm)
  • Big syringe
  • Paint canister without spray pin
  • Pump or compressor

To fill the aerosol can with your own hands, cut off 2 cm from the rod, put it on the needle for pumping the ball - the device will be required to inject air into the balloon. Place a 3 cm piece from the rod onto the syringe. Take the button from the can, remove the rubber seal from it, which is in the place of spraying. Put the button back on the cylinder, insert the syringe with the pumped paint into the hole, press the button and force the paint into the cylinder. Insert a needle with an adapter from the rod into the same hole, press the button, pump in air. Paint volume - 50%, air pressure - no more than 3 atmospheres.

Method C - making a refillable cartridge

To make a reusable spray bottle with your own hands from a can with the ability to quickly pump air, you will need the following tools and materials:

  • Paint can
  • Automotive nipple
  • Soldering iron, hammer, piece of wood

The essence of this design is to insert a nipple for air injection into the bottom of the can. You can make this type of paint spray at home as follows:

  1. Remove rubber from the nipple
  2. Tin the bottom of the can in the center and nipple
  3. Drill a hole with a nipple diameter in the bottom
  4. Carefully drive the nipple into the hole through the piece of wood so as not to damage the edge, solder it
  5. Pour the cleaning solvent into the cylinder, place it in a tight cloth bag, pump air through the nipple - no more than 3 atmospheres and test the spray

This is how a reusable paint can is made, which is used to apply coloring compositions.

Option number 5: making an atomizer with a compressor

It is very difficult to blow into the tube from under the handle for a long time to paint a part of the car. It is better to make an electric spray gun with your own hands with automatic air supply. For its manufacture, a vacuum cleaner or compressor from an old refrigerator is suitable.

Method A - using a vacuum cleaner

If a Soviet vacuum cleaner remains on the farm, then it already has the function of blowing air. You can make a spray bottle with your own hands from a vacuum cleaner like this:

  1. Remove the filters from the vacuum cleaner, thoroughly clean the dust
  2. Wrap the connections with tape to reduce air leakage, which means to keep the pressure constant
  3. Connect the blow hose to the spray gun

If the vacuum cleaner does not have a blowing function, then you can get it without touching the insides of the apparatus. To do this, take a dense plastic garbage bag the size of a vacuum cleaner, find another hose. You can make a spray bottle with a compressor as follows:

  • Take out the dust container
  • Place a plastic bag on the vacuum cleaner and tape the edges of the bag tightly around the place where the hose comes out.
  • In the opposite corner, make a small hole, insert the second hose into it, tightly wrap the junction with tape
  • Make a hole for the wire, wrap it with duct tape

Method B - using a compressor from the refrigerator

Since the operation of the compressor is intermittent, the manufacture of a receiver will be required. It will dampen pressure drops. You can make it from:

  1. Empty fire extinguisher with 5L volume
  2. Empty gas bottle
  3. Car wheel
  4. Two pipes, simultaneously serving as a stand for the compressor

  • Take a stamped tubeless wheel
  • Install an extra nipple in it
  • Connect the compressor through the nipple with nipple
  • Route the hose to the sprayer through the nipple without a nipple

When making a spray gun and working with it, you must observe safety precautions. For example, you can make a respirator yourself. The spray stand will also be very convenient.

Respirator manufacturing

To make a respirator at home, you will need the following materials:

  1. Large flat bottom plastic bottle
  2. Plastic tube (5-6 cm) that can be slipped over the bottleneck
  3. A stopper with which you can plug the tube from the inside
  4. Cotton wool, gauze
  5. Activated carbon - 4 tablets
  6. Hot glue, scissors, lighter

Manufacturing steps:

  • Cut a piece of 13-15 cm from the bottom of the bottle, drill many holes in the bottom, make a curly cutout for the nose at the cut. Singe the edges with a lighter. Try on a design to make it comfortable
  • Cut off the neck and two centimeters of the bottle from the top - this will be the cap for the bottom. Spread it around the diameter with glue and put it on the bottom with holes

How to make a canister reusable using available tools?

In order to make such a tool, you need to follow a simple sequence:

  1. Find an old used spray can. If there is no such thing nearby, you can simply purchase a new one, use it for its intended purpose, and then proceed with the modernization of our tool.
  2. To begin with, in an already empty can, a small hole should be drilled in the bottom. Do not forget that there is still a little old dye in the can, which means you need to rinse it thoroughly with a solvent.
  3. For the next step, you need to clamp the nipple in a drill and clean it from the camera by tinning it.
  4. After that, you can safely install the nipple in our spray can. Next, you need to add a little water, and then pump the balloon. If the formation of bubbles does not occur, everything is done correctly.

How to use it?

As a result of completing all the above points, a new can will be released, which will not be thrown away after the first use, because it can always be refilled with a regular syringe. What is needed for this? It is enough just to purchase a special paint and mix it with a solvent. This is to ensure that the paint does not come out too thick or too thin. Such actions help to adjust the density the way the user needs it. Also, we must not forget about pumping air by pumping.

What are the savings? How much should you spend and how much can you save?

In fact, simple math works here. One can of paint, containing about 400 ml, costs about 200 rubles. Buying paint separately will cost about 70 rubles per 1 liter, and 500 ml of solvent can be purchased for 40 rubles. It turns out that for 110 rubles we get at least a liter of paint, while in the store for 200 we buy only 400 ml. By simple calculations, you can determine that for the same canister, made by yourself, you will need to spend about 50 rubles, instead of 200. The savings are quite impressive, which is good news. However, this method also has a number of disadvantages, for example, pumping paint through a syringe or mixing it with a solvent on its own.

Do not rush to throw away the deodorant can, you can fill it with another substance and even paint. To do this, we need a larger medical syringe, a vinyl tube, and a small compressor or pump.

If you need to fill the paint into a can, then you need to dilute it to a liquid state. Depending on how much the deodorant can is designed for, and it is usually 150 milliliters, then you can fill it no more than 2/3 of the volume of the deodorant can, no more than 100 milliliters.

We prepare the syringe, for this we remove the needle and put on a vinyl tube instead of it, cut it off, leaving 4mm not dressed. We collect the paint into the syringe, remove the spray bottle from the can and put the tip of the vinyl tube of the syringe onto the tube of the aerosol can.

Press with a connected syringe, with a can, on the valve and at the same time inject paint into it, after you pour 100 milliliters of paint into the can, take the safety cap from the medical needle, one side is thicker, insert it into the hose of the compressor or pump, securing it with a clamp or twisted wire, and the closed end of the cap pierce a hole with an awl, but do not destroy the side at this end.

We wrap the balloon in a strong cloth bag or place it in a strong tube for safety. We turn on the compressor and push the closed end of the cap, with a hole, into the cylinder valve (that side on the cap, which I wrote about above, will help us in this). When inflating, press on the valve tube. Air fills the air in the cylinder, creating pressure in it and bubbling will be heard in it, this air passing through the paint fills the cylinder, creating pressure.

At the same time, keep an eye on the pressure gauge, and although the cylinder is pumped up to 4 kg / cm2 at the factory, it is better to roll up no more than 2.5 kg / cm2 so as not to risk it, especially since you can pump the cylinder at any time. The cylinder is ready for reuse.

Using paint in aerosol cans is one of the options for painting the surface. This significantly reduces material consumption. The required color is selected according to the marking on the product. Pumping cylinders using professional equipment is advantageous in terms of capacity, but is not available due to the high price. Self-filling aerosol cans with paint is justified by its low costs and ease of use. Although the container is not filled to the maximum volume.

  • The syringe is filled with dye.

  • The paint is pumped into the bottle. ITS number corresponds to a certain shade. You can select the desired color by fan. Colors for tinting are most often chosen from RAL, NCS, Pantone catalogs. Mixing the base colors allows you to get the desired shade.
  • Actions are performed until 2/3 of the container is full. So, for example, a 520 ml cylinder is pumped into 400 ml. This capacity is enough for painting 1.5 m 2 if the paint is applied in two layers.

  • Hard fiberglass putty is sanded with sandpaper in the form of a bar with a grain of 60-240; for soft putty, grain 180-320 is used. It is left in this state for 24 hours.
  • The next step is to apply a primer. The primer is applied in several layers. There is 10 minutes of drying time between them. When the priming is finished and the surface is dry, the surface is treated with sandpaper with a grain of 500, and finally - 1500. For metal, a primer is a protection against corrosion.
  • The resulting surface is degreased before painting.
  • You can start painting. The container with the dye is shaken. It is applied at an angle of 90 ° with respect to the surface. The can is placed at a distance of 30 cm. Paintwork is applied in 3 layers. It is kept for 15 minutes between painting. Complete drying of the enamel occurs in 25 minutes. The material is applied evenly, without smudges.
  • To strengthen the coating, sometimes the surface is varnished according to the same scheme as the dye. The varnish dries up after 24 hours. Polishing is carried out after a few days.

Paint and varnish from an aerosol container transfers direct exposure to sunlight. Has a high degree of abrasion. The varnish on the surface gives it strength and shine.
