In the article I will talk about standard sizes sofas I will share tips on how to choose the right size upholstered furniture depending on the style and size of the room.

Standard sofa sizes

IN modern world In interior design, sofas play a significant role. The variety of their sizes and colors is enormous. Therefore it is worth getting to know existing models. This will allow you to easily choose the ideal model that will fit harmoniously into the interior.

The length ranges from 235-285 centimeters, width – 155-185.

This sofa includes 2 parts - the main and the side, which are located at an angle of 90 degrees. The main part is 1.5-2 times larger than the side part. Connected with reliable fastenings. In rare cases, these parts are produced separately, the side one is simply attached to the main one.

They often have built-in drawers for bedding or other items, which increases ease of use.

Standard length is 175-190 centimeters, width – 100 centimeters.

The most common type. The sizes vary due to the presence of armrests and the number of seats.

Length up to 1.8 m, width up to 1.3 m.

Easy to use because it is ideal for small apartments due to the inclusion of two pieces of furniture - a bed and a sofa.

The length varies between 150-180 cm, width - 100-130 cm, length of the retractable part - up to 200 centimeters.

The standard is length - 155 - 185 cm, width - no more than 100 cm.

It has a specific appearance, so it is not widespread. Perfect for unusual and bright design interior

The total length in some cases reaches 300 centimeters, width – 80.

This model consists of several interconnected parts. Dimensions components are different because they depend on the shape and type of model. The average size composite module - 65-95 centimeters.

The sizes depend on the age of the child for whom it is purchased.

The dimensions of such a model are directly dependent on whether it is folding or not. If the sofa folds forward, the retractable part reaches 165 centimeters in length and 100-150 centimeters lengthwise.

When choosing upholstered furniture, they are guided by the features of the room, floor area, interior design, required capacity and depth of the cushion. In addition, it is important to take into account a person’s height if the selected model is intended for sleeping.

For big family A three-seater corner or one-and-a-half-seater fold-out sofa is suitable for placement in a hall or living room. The optimal increase for each person is considered to be 80 centimeters when disassembled and 60 centimeters when assembled.

Using this calculation, we can conclude that for three people a double option with a length of about 2 meters will be sufficient. However, in practice it is better to be wasteful, but purchase a comfortable and roomy option with a large number of modules.

For small rooms and a sofa 185-200 centimeters long and 75-85 centimeters high will be enough to accommodate two people. In small apartments, the corner option will be an excellent helper. It will do an excellent job of zoning a room. This will delimit space and save space.

In the case when the dimensions of the apartment do not “pressure” and allow you to save space, preference is given to three-bed corner models or straight four-bed ones. Additional module in corner models it is easy to install and remove, which makes this option compact and easy to use. But when choosing this option, it is taken into account that the height will be sufficient for a person to fully rest.

IN spacious room It is possible to use 2 sofas. In this case, they are placed opposite each other.

The main thing is to take measurements before purchasing. The dimensions should be with a small margin in order to be able to easily place the furniture in the desired place. In addition, it is advisable to make a small plan of the room on paper in order to visually represent the location of all the objects inside it, including the sofa.

An important detail is to decide on the purpose of the upholstered furniture. Based on what room it will be located in and what it is intended for, it will be easier to decide on the size and model.

Today, sofas are considered one of the main and expensive types of furniture. This is explained by the high demand for them, coming from the versatility and comfort of their use.

Manufacturers of upholstered furniture offer their customers upholstered furniture various models and types. Quality furniture is able to give its owners a feeling of real comfort for a long time. The degree of comfort is determined by design and ergonomic parameters.

Optimal overall dimensions of a sofa

The main structural element of any upholstered furniture is its frame, which is made in accordance with the design features and taking into account the anatomical structure of the human body. The materials for making the frame are solid wood, chipboard, metal structural elements, plastic.

To provide an attractive appearance and ease of use, the frame has filling and upholstery. Spring or springless blocks are used as filler to give the sofa the necessary elasticity. The spring block is covered with upholstery on both sides. The lower upholstery provides high tensile strength, and the upper upholstery gives the sofa an attractive appearance.

The height of the sofa is determined by the characteristics of human growth, so in most cases it is 350 - 400 mm. Thanks to this fit, the seat depth increases to 500 - 600 mm. This allows you to relax your spine as much as possible while sitting. To relax as much as possible more muscles, manufacturers equip sofas with armrests, headrests and recliners that are height adjustable. The recliner sofa has wide functionality and provides effective rest for the main muscle groups.

How to save free space when installing a sofa?

To save money free space it is allowed to combine sofas with other furniture into soft sets made in a single style decision. At the same time, the upholstery material of the entire set should have a common concept. In order to obtain maximum savings If you have free space, it is better to buy a corner sofa. It provides a comfortable stay and can easily be transformed into a separate sleeping place. To visually reduce the size of the sofa, choose two-color upholstery, one of the shades of which is as close as possible to color scheme walls or floor.

The FURNITURE SOFA store offers to buy a Chester folding sofa in a wide range of colors on attractive terms for customers. We guarantee affordable prices and high quality our goods.

The article will tell you in detail about choosing a sofa based on its area of use. Which sofa design to choose, what should it be comfortable sofa.

Choosing a sofa - for the office or home? It is important to determine the area of use of the sofa. This will help you choose suitable model suitable outlines. Previously, we told you how to choose a bed, and in this article we will dwell in detail on choosing a sofa.

Choosing the right sofa

If you like to watch movies reclining, you will need to choose a sofa that is different from the one intended for the office. Models equipped with swivel backrest elements are perfect for negotiations. They are indispensable in cases where you talk for a long time, sitting slightly half-turned facing the interlocutor.

Your back will get tired on a regular sofa without support, but thanks to a sofa with a mobile back, you can find a comfortable position. A compromise option could be rounded island-type models, or sofas that are equipped with special recesses under the back for each seated person.

If you need a sofa for sleeping, decide whether you need a transformer designed for daily use or a guest version of the sofa bed. Choose between a sofa with an unusual mechanism and an inexpensive traditional model.

Low or high? Standard height the sofa is 42 cm from the floor level. For the vast majority of models, this rule is true. But in some factories you can order a comfortable sofa of the seat height you need. Interestingly, a difference of 2 cm can become noticeable. What is the best way to choose a sofa for older people? It is better to buy a sofa model with the highest possible seat, since it is more difficult to get up from a low model.

Soft or hard sofa? Everything is quite subjective. Trust only your feelings, do not listen to other people's advice. The harder the pillow filling is, the longer the pillow will last. A layer of synthetic wool (Dacron) is added to the polyurethane foam layer for greater softness.

Elite duck down/feather can also be added. But after you sit on such a pillow, characteristic “stubs” will remain. If you don't like the effect produced, buy a sofa that uses down pocket technology. By analogy with springs, soft feathers and down are placed in individual envelopes. They will quickly restore their original shape when subjected to pinpoint compression.

Back height and seat depth

The depth of the connection is equal to the traditional height of the backrest.

The high back is at the level of the back of the head or higher. Upholstered sofas with regular seat depth and high back designed to sit correctly with your back pressed very tightly against the backrest. The seat depth can be 60 cm, which is equal to medium length adult.

Deeper models, the depth of which starts from 70 cm, will no longer require an additional lumbar pillow with such a high back. The low back is at waist level. Such a sofa, as a rule, has a seat of unusual depth, reaching up to 100-125 cm. Thanks to this, you can take a reclining position on the sofa.

Transforming sofas are more comfortable. They allow you to fix the most comfortable angle of the headrest or backrest. Some models can fix the headrest in an almost vertical position. The height of the backrest is increased with the help of a retractable headrest.

In some cases, it hides in the inside of the back frame in its own pocket. In this case, you will have to unscrew the hinges and remove the cushions to pull it out. Some manufacturers offer composite pillows. Top part the backrest is raised and fixed on special metal rods. The most expensive and convenient option are the folded edges on the back cushion.

Compromises. How to choose a sofa if each family member has his own preferences? Some people like to lie down, while others like to sit up straight. A compromise solution can be found. You can choose a sofa that has a seat that extends forward, resulting in increased depth. In this case, the sofa can have a lowering and rising back. You can stretch your legs on the pillow module. Such a module, as a rule, is a component of a corner sofa. Another option is to buy a sofa from which you can extend the footrest. It will not take up much space, unlike a free-standing pouf. Remember on soft sofa can be placed both lengthwise and crosswise.

The sofa is one of the main household items, the load on it is enormous. It is considered a piece of furniture that performs functional tasks and at the same time serves as an island for relaxation or a sleeping place. The sofa can be located either in small room, and in a huge space.

The sofa is located in almost all rooms, such as the bedroom, living room, kitchen and even the balcony, if we talk about apartments. Sofas are installed in gazebos, in summer dining rooms, and in any places where need and imagination desire, if we talk about houses. Of course, you need to decide external design, namely with the model, texture solution, additional functions, but, first of all, you should take into account the size of the sofa.

Peculiarities

First, you need to decide for what purpose and in what room the sofa will be purchased. If you like a suitable option on the trading platform, do not rush to purchase it without knowing the exact parameters.

It is not recommended to purchase such things “by eye”. At an exhibition it may look attractive, but if placed in a room, the impression may be spoiled due to its inappropriate size.

It is necessary to take into account 2 parameters of the dimensions of the furniture - folded and unfolded. If the sofa is located in a small room, then you need to calculate the free passage from it to other pieces of furniture. It will not be very convenient, and sometimes even dangerous, if the product takes up the entire free area of the space. There is a simple way to determine the dimensions relative to the parameters of the room. Large room– needed a big sofa, and for the little one - a sofa of modest size. Agree, if you place a small sofa on a large area, it will simply get lost, as well as vice versa - in limited space a huge sofa will be completely out of place.

You will learn the main points that you need to consider when choosing a sofa in the video below.

What are the dimensions?

As a rule, the dimensions of the sofa are:

  • Width. Varies from 90 cm to 210 in 10 cm increments.
  • Length. Sizes can be from 150 cm to 200 cm.
  • Height. Determined in the range from 50 cm to 150 cm.
  • Seat depth. It is 50, 60, 70, 75, 80, 85, 90 cm.

Let's look at common examples of straight sofas:

  • Double. The most common due to its compactness. Suitable for apartments and houses, as well as for offices or personal account. Standard dimensions are 170 cm in length and 80 to 100 cm in width.

  • Triple. The length reaches 200-250 cm, width - from 80 to 100 cm. Ideal for those who like a little more space than usual.

  • One and a half or children's sofa. It can reach from 90 to 200 cm in length, the width depends on the layout mechanism. If the layout is forward, then the width will be 170 cm, if along, then 200 cm or more.

  • Baby. Thanks to its size, it is suitable for absolutely any room, including extremely small areas. Length sizes start from 120 cm in length and 60 cm in width.

Correctly measuring a suitable product is not difficult. Guided by GOST 19120-93, the sample is placed on a flat horizontal surface, then the width of the product is measured along the outer dimensions (from protruding edge to protruding edge), then the width of the seat is measured (excluding armrests). Determine the height by measuring from the lowest point (leg or floor) of the sofa to the top (highest point). Depth is measured in a similar way. When unfolded, the sleeping place is determined from the extreme point of the retractable structure to the inner point of the back of the sofa.

The choice of models of sofa products is endlessly large, you can choose one for every taste and financial opportunity. This is especially true for small rooms, kitchens or balconies. Let's try to understand the variety and choose the appropriate option.

One of the most common models of sofas that the modern furniture market presents to us is the p straight or full-size, which is divided into 2 types:

  • 1st type. Most of them use the transformation mechanism “book”, “eurobook” and their varieties. This sofa is often used instead of a bed. His simple geometry And simple design allows owners to unfold the sofa without applying special effort, as well as collect and, of course, use. His sleeping area is flat and straight. The sleeping area is divided into only two equal plot, due to their peculiarity, they sleep on such sofas along one line. In modern models, halving does not cause inconvenience during sleep, since this “ technical point“It’s practically not felt. However, when choosing such a sofa, you should pay attention not only to the size of the sleeping area, but also to the overall dimensions of the product, since straight sofas often have massive armrests, the width of which must be taken into account.

  • 2nd type. Sofas that move forward. The layout mechanism is called “accordion”. You need to sleep on such a sofa perpendicularly. It is widespread due to its miniature size, since when assembled the size of the sofa becomes minimal. When choosing such a sofa, you need to take into account the size of the sofa, taking into account the retractable structure. For example, the length of a sofa when folded is 90 cm, and taking into account retractable mechanism the size reaches 2 meters. Sleeping areas have different texture, regarding evenness, this indicator depends on the model and manufacturer of the sofa. The dimensions of “accordions” can differ significantly from each other.

For everyday use, the most suitable size is 190-200 cm in length and 120-140 cm in width, while for guests practical option the length will be 185-190 cm and the width 110-120 cm.

Other models include:

  • U-shaped. Sofas of this type can have folding mechanism, or may not, which directly affects the price. When choosing a sofa for sleeping, you can be sure that the sleeping space in such sofas is larger compared to other models. The standard dimensions are 300 cm long and 220 cm wide.

  • Angular. These sofas are well-deservedly popular due to their convenient location in space, although they are quite massive and bulky. The sleeping area also features plenty of space and a smooth texture. It is difficult to find a sofa without a folding mechanism. Such sofas are purchased for full functional use.

  • Corner sofa with ottoman, which is the corner part of the product, and it remains unchanged and does not fold. The ottoman can be used as a couch; you can sit on it or take a reclining position and even lie down. At the same time, the sofas of this group have space for bed linen, which is undoubtedly an advantage of the sofa. When choosing, you need to take into account that the “protruding” part of the sofa does not interfere with the passage, much less block it. The dimensions of the sofa can be selected based on height and purpose. Standard models are 140 cm long and 195 cm wide.

  • Cosette. A sofa chaise is a small couch for two people. Classic version always involves two armrests with a curved back. Modern models have only one armrest; sometimes a chaise longue is an addition to a corner sofa. Standard sizes: 240 cm length and 140 cm width.

  • Euro sofa. An excellent example is a “Eurobook”. A sofa that will not break, because there is simply nothing to break in it: it does not have a transformation mechanism. Durable, easy to use and practical. Generally accepted dimensions: 140 cm by 200 cm.

  • Couch. It is a type of small sofa that is intended for use in places with strictly limited space. As a rule, a sleeping place is suitable for one person. The peculiarity of this model is its modest dimensions, however, the layout method is longitudinal, which indicates the need for additional space to fully unfold the mechanism. When unfolded, the width of the product increases to 170-180 cm, the depth depends on the model and can vary significantly. The advantage of such a sofa is that there is little free space in front, which allows you to place it in a narrow room.

  • Ostrovny. Premium class sofas, for the most part, are not intended as sleeping places, but serve as interior decoration and are located in the center of the living room. The shapes are mostly round - circle, semicircle, oval. Sizes range from small (for one to two people) to large (for several people).

  • Modular. Sofas consisting of separate modules. They can be combined and interchanged. The shape can be varied: from straight to fancy polygonal. The cost of sofas in this category is not cheap, but their attractiveness and special charm make them in demand. Dimensions are determined individually for each case.

Sofas are also distinguished by size characteristics:

  • Standard. The most popular samples are those with dimensions of 180x200 or 220 cm in length, 80-100 cm in width, approximately 100 cm in height, and the size of the sleeping area is 150x200 cm. In furniture centers, sofas of standard dimensions are most often found.

  • Individual. Highlight the interior of your home unusual sofa very simple. All you have to do is choose a design and specify the dimensions. Model parameters range from small to indecently huge. Size chart quite varied, as is the execution. If you have your own ideas, they can easily be brought to life, of course, for an appropriate fee.

  • Non-standard. For various reasons, they choose furniture that differs from standard dimensions. Whether it’s the features of the room – when needed narrow model, or this is a conference room - where you need a very long sofa of more than 3-4 m. Large or small sofas can also be made to order, the main thing is to have an understanding of what result you want to achieve in the end.

How to choose by the number of seats?

  • If the product is used married couple, then the size within 150-160 x 180-210 cm will be optimal.

  • For 3-seater models, for example, for a family with children, a sofa with a width of 210-250 cm is best.

  • For four-seaters and more, you can calculate the length yourself: 80-100 cm per seat.

As for the remaining dimensions (height, depth), the size will depend on the style direction and additional accessories. For example, a sofa without armrests will take up less space than a similar sample with armrests. Armrests can be designed laconically, or they can act as an accessory on the product and be of unusually large sizes.

Choose according to purpose

From the choice of use and destination of the sofa, the following categories can be designated.

Home use

Location variations:

  • Living room. For selection suitable option It is advisable to decide whether it will be the main place of rest or will be used as an additional seat, as well as how often it will be used. For small spaces, a sofa with a roll-out accordion mechanism is ideal, as it unfolds perpendicular to the back, leaving free space on the sides.

And if it uses orthopedic filling, then sleep will be not only comfortable, but also healthy.

  • For receiving guests, more than ever, models with retractable elements, such as “Eurobook”, “Dolphin”, “ French folding bed"and other samples with a similar transformation. For a pleasant stay, you can opt for the “click-click” or “book” models; it is better not to choose such sofas for sleeping, due to uneven surface. And for a pleasant pastime they are suitable like no other. The upholstery must be wear-resistant and non-marking. Jacquard, leather, flock, tapestry will be perfect as upholstery material.

  • Bedroom. Perfect fit corner sofas or linear for 2-3 places, thanks to their functional characteristics your sleep will be comfortable and complete. In addition, they have additional drawers for linen. For upholstery it is better to use flock, tapestry, suede.

  • Kitchen. Modern interior solutions often use a variety of sofas as kitchen equipment, and for small apartments- This is an indispensable option for an additional bed or a convenient location for household members and guests. In the first case, materials can be used that are non-staining and easy to clean - flock, tapestry. In the second case, it is reasonable to use leather and eco-leather.

The transformation mechanism can be absolutely anything, the main thing is that when unfolded it fits within the perimeter allotted to it.

  • Balcony. The fashion for making rest and relaxation areas out of balconies is gaining momentum, and that’s understandable. It’s so nice to go out onto the balcony on a warm evening, get comfortable and listen to the sounds of the city or the singing of birds. A sofa that fits into the area of the balcony and, of course, is pleasant to be in will be comfortable. Roll-out mechanisms or a sofa without transformation will be completely the best solution. The upholstery material depends on the preferences of the owner and climatic conditions.
