Step 1. Take a round metal box from cookies. Apply two coats of idigo acrylic primer to the lid and jar in order to paint over the previous design. After the primer has dried, we will glue the selected pictures from the decoupage cards. We place the pictures on the surface and glue them using universal varnish-glue for decoupage, smoothing the glue from the middle to the edges, expelling excess air from under the picture.

Step 2. In the second step, we will visually divide the future box into zones - sky, sea and sand. To do this, use a brush to paint most of the lid with light blue, and the remaining lower part with yellow paint. We will also divide the jar into two parts. We will paint the side with the shells with yellow paint, and the side with the anchor, steering wheel and lighthouse – light blue. We will paint the jar with a sponge to create a more natural, uneven color. Using dotted movements, apply paint around the pictures.

Step 3. Now we need to make the box “alive” and voluminous. 3D powder and balls will help us with this. Mix the balls with acrylic paint. Thanks to the special composition, when interacting with paint, 3D powder and balls stick even to vertical surfaces without additional use of glue. We will take fairly large balls to imitate pebbles in the sand and smaller ones to create “lambs on the waves.”

Step 4. First we will make an imitation of stones on the sand. Mix large balls with yellow paint. Using a brush or toothpick, apply them to the bottom of the lid, as well as near the shells on the jar, lay out the “cascade” we need, when we are satisfied with everything, leave it to dry. The balls themselves stick to the surface.

Step 5. Now let's create white and blue waves along which the ship floats. Having mixed fine 3D powder with white paint, apply the resulting paste with point movements to the places where we want to make “sea lambs”. After the paste has dried, use a brush to enhance the color of the waves using blue acrylic.

Step 6. We will age the “marine” part of the can, painted with blue paint, using two-component craquelure. To do this, apply craquelure varnish 1 with a brush and let it dry for 10-15 minutes. After drying, apply craquelure varnish 2 and let it dry again. When both layers are dry, the resulting cracks will be barely noticeable on the surface. To highlight them, take antique paste from the set. Gently apply and spread the antique paste over the entire surface with a napkin or finger; our cracks will become noticeable. Excess paste can be removed with a damp cloth. We got wonderful antique cracks, as if our box was many years old.

Step 7. Finally, let's give the sails on the ship mysterious color tints. This is easy to do with chameleon pigment powder. Pour powder from the jar onto the sails and rub in with your finger. Thanks to the powder, the chameleon, the ship and the sails acquired a magical glow.

ALL IS READY! In just two hours we were able to create an extraordinary box of memories. It’s so nice to store photos, magnets, tickets, shells and key rings brought from different trips in it. In the same style we made a panel and a mug stand.

We used in the work following materials:

Have a nice sunny day, creativity lovers! Elya is with you again and today, as I promised, I’m posting step by step wizard class on decoupage of a box using brushing techniques and creating a decorative element in the form of an “antique” card made of clay. This is how the decoupage turned out in nautical style. I’m sure you will succeed too, even if you are a beginner.

Materials and tools.

To complete this work we needed the following materials and tools:

  1. box (pine)
  2. tools for firing and brushing ( gas-burner, iron brush)
  3. acrylic art primer
  4. acrylic paints
  5. white patina (can be replaced with white construction paint)
  6. decoupage napkins
  7. self-hardening clay
  8. bitumen wax or bitumen varnish
  9. acrylic lacquer
  10. “Crystal Moment” glue for gluing “plastic cards”
  11. auxiliary tools(brushes, sponges, rags, rolling pin, files)

So let's begin.

Brushed with firing.

Wow! When it gets hot, we are already firing the pine wood with a gas burner. We open the windows wider so as not to breathe in smoke, but it is better to burn the box on the street on fresh air.

We do not leave a single light area; the box should be completely covered in black. We leave only space for the picture and with inside under decorative element from clay.

Ready? Now we clean off all the fumes in the direction of the wood grain. iron brush. Periodically wipe the box with a damp cloth to prevent dust from scattering too much.

Patination and primer

Now you can start patination of the surface.

Patina imparts to the decorated surface vintage look. With its help, the effect of contrast of individual elements is achieved, which makes the surface more expressive. We applied a white patina to water based from Sayerlack. It's okay if you don't have one. You can use white construction paint slightly diluted with water.

Let's apply it thin layer onto a brushed surface. It dries within a few minutes, after which it is partially removed with a damp cloth or Scotch Brite.

Apply acrylic primer to the surface on which we will glue the decoupage napkin.

Decoupage

We wait for everything to dry, then lightly sand the surface and glue the napkin using the file method.

At our master class marine theme, so I pre-printed pictures on a napkin with sailboats. You can see how to print an image on a napkin.

It is important to leave the edges of the napkin torn. This will make it easier to paint on it with acrylic paints.

Working with paints.

Selecting the appropriate colors, we will paint the picture. Here it is convenient to use an oval brush, or in other words it is called “ cat's eye" This brush creates smooth transitions from one color to another. Just what we need.

We apply contrasting colors that are present in the picture to the sides of the box, then lightly wash it with a damp cloth. The color will only remain in the recesses. If you have sharp color transitions, add transitions to the borders White color paints. This will make the colors more shaded.

We covered the inside of the box with brown acrylic paint diluted with water.

And if you want the inside to feel more comfortable, cover this part with velvet fabric. You will learn how to decorate with velvet in the following articles. Finished work cover acrylic varnish, then after complete drying, we stain the ends with bitumen wax or bitumen varnish.

Imitation of an “antique” map

Almost everything is ready, all that remains is to add a small element. Let's work a little with self-hardening clay. This material provides many opportunities for our creativity, and in this master class I will show how we made a bundle out of it antique map.

Roll out the sheet to about 3 mm thick.

We cut off required size and fold the edges inward, as shown in the photo.

The finished card blank must be thoroughly dried. As it dries, it becomes more light shade. If the card remains dark after drying (depending on the quality and type of clay), then cover it with white acrylic primer. In this case, we simply applied acrylic varnish.

Glue a napkin with a card design and after drying, coat it with varnish again.

The finished work must be shaded along the edges with bitumen varnish or wax. We glue it to the inside of the lid, install the lock and voila.

Brags

A large box for storing money is ready. This is a great handmade gift, both for yourself and for friends or relatives.

I wish you a decoupage extravaganza and even more beautiful works. Thanks for stopping by. I would appreciate your comments.
