Wall decoration in the kitchen: we choose the material, the better to finish. Options for wall decoration in the apartment - an overview of modern materials Beautiful wall decoration in the apartment

The greatest number of problems during repairs to the owners, as a rule, are created by the walls in the apartment. How to decorate them so as to hide the flaws, and the interior turned out to be unusual, not similar to that of the neighbors. In addition, I want it to be practical, and not very expensive. Wallpaper usually comes to mind first. We will not argue. With the current variety of their types, it is quite possible to choose the right option for any room. Well, then what about the creativity and uniqueness of the interior? And functionality shouldn't be overlooked either. After all, for example, being in search of an answer to the question: "How to decorate the walls of the kitchen in the apartment?", You begin to understand that wallpaper is far from the best option for this room. You need something different, more practical and durable. However, fortunately, the current owners of apartments and houses will not have to puzzle over the problem for a long time. The building materials market is so diverse that finding a suitable solution will not be difficult. We, in turn, will try to help with valuable advice.

So, what are the walls in the apartment finished with, besides the wallpaper?

General principles

When choosing a suitable material for the walls, first of all, you need to take into account which room the decoration will take place in. It is from this that we need to make a start. If this is, say, a bedroom or a nursery, then here you need to opt for environmentally friendly materials, in the manufacture of which a minimum amount of chemical components was used. If we are talking about a hallway, then you need to understand that a more durable material is best suited for it, because this is the room where you most often touch the walls with your hands, so the ability to quickly remove the traces of the same hands from the walls without consequences for finishing is of great importance ... As for, say, the kitchen, here you need materials that are able to withstand temperature extremes and the presence of high humidity. Talking about how you can decorate the walls in an apartment, we will, first of all, touch on the issues of practicality and functionality. As for the interior design specifically, this is not the topic of our review, however, based on our advice, you, in view of the abundance of all kinds of colors and textures of the materials we describe, can easily choose the right option for yourself.

We decorate with plaster

Do you have, to put it mildly, walls in your apartment that are far from ideal? How to finish them quickly, efficiently and inexpensively? Consider using decorative plaster. If it is adopted, you will deal with two hares with one blow - you will hide the defects and refine the interior. And there will be no problems with the design, since the decorative plaster, after being applied to the surface, is covered with paint. So it won't be difficult to find a suitable color. And, besides, with the word "plaster" there is no need to imagine a gray surface all covered in specks of sand. Not at all. Today, decorative plaster is so diverse that you can use it to make a textured surface, both antique and marbled. The only drawback of this type of finish, perhaps, is that, without good skills, it is unlikely that it will be possible to make a high-quality finish on your own. However, if you are not too smart, and purchase a solution of the "bark beetle" type, then it is quite possible to get by on your own. Well, if you want the walls to be finished or their surface imitates a stone covering, then here, of course, it is still advisable to turn to specialists.

Tile

This material is quite well-known and, it seems, cannot surprise with anything. However, things are not so simple. Today, ceramic tiles are so diverse that they are used not only in bathrooms and toilets, but sometimes they also decorate the walls of living rooms and hallways. Well, and for the kitchen this is almost the most suitable option. Its mirrored varieties will serve as an excellent bedroom at all.

PVC panels

Quite often, such coverage is found in offices. However, who said that they cannot decorate the walls in the apartment? How to finish the surface if you want the work to go quickly and painlessly, and the coating itself turned out to be durable, beautiful and easy to clean? Of course, you should pay attention to PVC panels. They are just perfect for the kitchen, great for bathrooms and hallways. For budget repairs - a great option. Especially considering that all work can be done independently, it is enough to be able to hold a drill and screwdriver in your hands. In addition, today plastic panels are produced not only in plain colors, but also with a pattern, which is sometimes so beautiful that you can easily create an amazing interior. Cheap, practical and original.

MDF panels

In appearance, they are similar to plastic, but not as moisture resistant as the latter. In addition, they are produced, as a rule, only in a monochromatic version and most often imitate a wooden covering. Nevertheless, if you are looking in an apartment, and even so that the material is not very expensive, then this option is perfect. These panels are quite resistant to stress, wash well, in addition, you can not only install them yourself, but also hide all communications and surface irregularities under them.

Painting

Considering the relatively budget options for wall decoration, you can not ignore the painting. At one time it was extremely fashionable and was considered a very sophisticated finish. Today, painting is not so popular, even though many modern materials have appeared. Indeed, at the very beginning, when such finishing options had just begun to appear (we, of course, do not mean panels in old Soviet apartments, covered with a nasty green color), they took an ordinary water emulsion and added dye to it to get the desired shade. It was far from always possible to achieve the desired result, and such a coating was difficult to clean. No, now there are enough ready-made paints on the market, some of which contain varnish in their composition, so that the dirt is washed off from them elementary. This finishing method is rapidly losing popularity for a different reason.

The fact is that in order to obtain a high-quality result, the desired surface must be carefully leveled and made perfectly smooth. That will require large material costs and the involvement of specialists. In addition, this method is considered one of the dirtiest. Tip: to reduce costs and speed up the process, you can first paste over the plastered walls with special wallpaper, and then apply paint to them.

All of the options presented above are the most common and, by and large, generally available. And the better to decorate the walls in the apartment, if the owners are not constrained in funds and can afford to fork out for expensive materials. Consider further the most promising options in this regard.

Cork

A great option. Natural will create an atmosphere of coziness in the room and will allow you to create any desired interior design, because at the moment it is produced in various colors, and at the same time its inherent remains. In addition, the cork will insulate the walls and contribute to their sound insulation.

Decorative rock

Another expensive finishing option. But on the other hand, it is also durable, in addition, incredibly refined and emphasizing the status of the owners. And if you do not know how to decorate the walls in the hallway in the apartment, consider it. Thus, you will make the interior of this room not only original, but also functional, because such a coating is not afraid of any "injuries" and dirt. Advice: I must say that today in the construction markets you can easily purchase a magnificent fake - not natural, but artificial decorative stone. And, we dare to note, it is made of such a high quality that even not every specialist can determine its non-natural origin. Such material will cost you an order of magnitude cheaper, which is why, by the way, its quality characteristics will practically not suffer.

3D panels

An excellent option for those who do not know how to decorate the walls in the apartment, except for wallpaper. After all, this is a super novelty on the modern market, so it is ideal for those who wish to create a creative, “not like everyone else's” interior. As for the coating itself, it is, of course, expensive, but all costs will be covered by its amazing appearance and the stunning visual effect that such panels create. In addition, a huge plus is that the installation of such panels can be done with your own hands. And the surface does not require special preliminary preparation. So, don't overlook it when choosing the right wall decor.

Conclusion

We told how it was in the apartment. How to decorate them is up to you, of course. But in conclusion of the article, we would like to give one more piece of advice. Don't discount the wallpaper. If you don’t want to decorate the walls with them, you don’t need to. The choice of materials, as you may have noticed, is more than great. But remember: sometimes a combination of wallpaper and, say, the same decorative stone looks much more interesting than just walls covered only with the latter. In general, fantasize. And you will certainly succeed.

When planning a renovation in any room of your home, you inevitably imagine the end result - the color palette, furnishings and decor. But any alteration or reconstruction of the premises begins with finishing and this part of the work must also be clearly planned. A competent choice of the way to decorate walls, ceilings and floors will help you not only achieve the desired result and get the interior of your dreams, but also save time and money. Unplanned alterations always lead to a waste of the family budget and temporary delays. Therefore, it is important to familiarize ourselves in advance with the various ways of decorating surfaces in your room and choose the best option that will correspond to your ideas about practicality, beauty and affordability.

We bring to your attention an impressive selection of a wide variety of images of personal and common rooms, made in different stylistic directions with the use of various finishing materials. We hope that specific examples of color, texture and design combinations will help you decide on the choice of finishing materials for decorating your own home.

Ceiling decoration - the beginning of the beginnings

As a rule, it is with the finishing of the ceilings that any repair begins. Not so long ago, our compatriots did not have the opportunity to choose among the methods of decorating ceilings - whitewashing, painting (more often in light colors) and wallpapering. In many apartments and houses, you yourself could come across absolutely identical unremarkable snow-white ceilings. Currently, there are many times more ways to finish ceiling surfaces, you can get confused from the abundance of building and finishing materials. In addition, modern materials for surface finishing make it possible to solve a number of problems that not so long ago it was impossible to cope with, at least independently. But nowadays, every homeowner will be able to choose the way of decorating the ceiling that suits him.

Among the most popular options for finishing ceiling surfaces are the following:

  • suspended ceilings (plasterboard);
  • stretch ceiling;
  • coloring;
  • the use of decorative plaster;
  • wallpapering;
  • ceiling panels;
  • combined option.

Dropped ceilings

Drywall is a composite material produced in the form of fairly large sheets, which consist of gypsum, lined on both sides with high-quality cardboard. Choosing drywall as a material for lining the ceiling, you can implement many design ideas and design variations. In addition, drywall has the following advantages:

  • you can veneer any surface, even completely untreated, not plastered;
  • plasterboard cladding is able to hide all the wires and pipes that are on the ceiling;
  • the result is a flat, smooth ceiling surface;
  • drywall is able to maintain the microclimate of the room;
  • possesses heat resistance, is a non-combustible material;
  • drywall treated with special compounds is a moisture resistant material;
  • safe for humans and the environment, non-toxic (can be used for lining ceilings, including in children's rooms);
  • the possibility of facing in several levels, creating various geometric shapes, niches, arches, etc.;
  • the possibility of organizing a built-in lighting system;
  • installation is quite simple and convenient (you can do it yourself);
  • there is a possibility of combination with other types of ceiling finishes;
  • affordable cost.

The options for cladding ceilings using plasterboard are numerous and very varied. But this material also has its drawbacks:

  • drywall is not suitable for finishing ceilings in rooms with high humidity (more than 75%), bathrooms, laundries with open drying and some other utilitarian rooms are not suitable for this type of cladding;
  • the surface sheathed with plasterboard needs further painting or wallpapering;
  • insufficiently high strength of the material itself.

With the help of plaster moldings, you can create a ceiling, which will be an ideal decoration for a room in a classic style or in the Baroque and Rococo styles.

Stretch ceiling

There are two types of stretch ceilings - fabric and PVC film. Both options are able to provide a perfectly flat ceiling design. In addition, stretch ceilings have a number of other advantages:

  • even a surface with deep irregularities lends itself to cladding, perfectly serves to align the asymmetrical shape of a room, hides all communications;
  • the material is waterproof;
  • this highly durable and elastic material is able to withstand a lot of weight (which is important in a situation where neighbors flood you);
  • fabric cloths are environmentally friendly, non-toxic material;
  • installation does not take much time, there is practically no dust and dirt in the process of stretching the ceiling;
  • rich color palette, the ability to apply photo printing, glitter and other decor
  • the cost of a stretch ceiling made of PVC film is very affordable.

But, like any material, stretch ceilings have disadvantages:

  • when using PVC film, the process of heating the material with the help of a gas gun is necessary, it is extremely difficult to carry out installation on your own, and without special equipment it is completely impossible;
  • after the installation of PVC film ceilings, a chemical smell will remain in the room for several days;
  • PVC film is not a completely safe material;
  • the ceiling made of PVC film cannot be installed in rooms that are not heated in winter, the material loses its technological properties at temperatures below +5 degrees;
  • the cost of fabrics is quite high.

Wallpaper for ceiling decoration

The old way of decorating ceilings is used today, the only difference is that the materials themselves have become more technological, have improved their performance in terms of practicality and ease of installation. In addition, the wallpaper has a number of other advantages:

  • low cost;
  • the ability to combine several options;
  • rich palette of colors and prints;
  • the ability to independently carry out the finishing in a fairly short time;
  • some wallpaper can be repainted, thus shading not only the ceiling decoration. But also the whole image of the room.

Among the disadvantages of wallpapering ceilings with wallpaper can be called the low strength of the material, some species are not moisture resistant, can fade in the sun and are unable to breathe. But it is quite possible to find an option that will meet certain environmental characteristics and at the same time look "excellent" and cost inexpensively.

Painting ceilings

This is one of the most ancient, but at the same time laborious ways of finishing the ceiling. Along with the use of decorative plaster. Painting is the "dirtiest" finishing method because it requires careful, perfect leveling of the surface with plaster. Gradually, this method of decorating ceilings is becoming less and less popular, but it must be admitted that even a plain, painted ceiling looks very aesthetically pleasing.

A great way to revet a not very even ceiling surface with your own hands is to glue or fix ceiling panels on the crate. From the point of view of modification, ceiling panels can be slatted, tiled and sheet. If we talk about the materials for making panels, then their choice is quite extensive: natural wood, MDF, chipboard, fiberboard, PVC, plastic, glass, gypsum vinyl.

The advantages of this method of finishing the ceiling are obvious:

  • fairly quick installation, which can be done independently;
  • most types of panels are materials that are safe for humans (they are, however, the most expensive in their segment of finishing materials);
  • rich color and textured palette, there are even embossed panels with high textured performance;
  • relatively low cost (except for wood panels and MDF).

The disadvantages include the need to install the lathing (for some models, mainly rack and pinion) and the high cost of natural ceiling panels.

Wall decoration is the key point of renovation

No one will argue with the fact that the whole image of the room largely depends on how the walls of the room look. Whether the color palette of the finish will be neutral or will amaze everyone with its brightness, or maybe a colorful pattern, whether it will add accents in the interior or soothe with monochrome - it's up to you. The methods of decorating the walls of any room in your dwelling have much in common with the options for decorating ceilings - they can also be sheathed with plasterboard, painted, pasted over with wallpaper, decorated with wall panels and combined different types of finishes within the same room. The difference lies in the fact that there are the most relevant options for wall decoration, which are not so popular lately for use in the design of ceilings. For example, wallpapering walls will always be in trend.

Since childhood, many of us like to look at wallpaper patterns before going to bed, which is why modern manufacturers of finishing materials never cease to expand the range of wallpaper with prints. If you use a rather colorful wallpaper pattern on all walls of the room, then try to keep the rest of the surfaces, textiles and furniture upholstery in one color.

The pattern on the wallpaper can both invigorate the atmosphere of the room and calm it down, make it more pacifying, add mystery, or vice versa - openness, simplicity. Skillfully selected wallpaper prints, combined with window decoration textiles, will create a harmonious image of the entire room.

Painting on painted or papered walls, using sticker stickers, decorating a panel with wallpaper or patterned textiles and moldings - there are as many options for wall design as there are for homeowners, because everyone is able to make their own contribution, their own idea, to the most common finishing materials.

One of the most popular options for decorating walls in bedrooms, children's rooms and living rooms is the use of an accent wall - when one of the vertical surfaces is made in a brighter color or using a pattern, or maybe even a completely different finishing material.

A surface covered with photo-printed wallpaper is often used as an accent wall. Modern technologies allow you to transfer absolutely any images to the finishing material - the picture quality will be at the highest level. When you wake up, you may decide that you are on the beach of the ocean or in the wild jungle.

The accent wall can be decorated with slatted wall panels made of natural wood or its synthetic counterpart. This cladding option will look especially harmonious in the company of plain light walls. Such a design technique can decorate both a room in a country house and in a city apartment, the interior of which is close to eco-style.

Another option for focusing attention on wall decoration, but already with the help of tiled wall panels located in several levels, which helped to create not only a textured image, but also to use niches and protrusions in the manufacture of the structure.

An accent in wall decoration can be created not only with the help of color or pattern, but also with the help of texture. In this case, 3D embossed panels can be ideal. They are mainly produced in sheet version and are very quick and easy to assemble.

The use of wall panels that imitate ceramic tiles or the use of the original is a rather bold design move when decorating a private room. But such courage is justified, because the interior turns out to be unique, unexpected, but at the same time practical.

Wall panels imitating masonry are a frequent guest in modern design projects. Such a design of an accent wall or part of it introduces not only a textured variety in the decoration of the room, but also gives it some brutality and drama.

Rack panels can be used to decorate all surfaces of a room (especially important for rooms in country houses). It is only important to remember that the room will seem larger if the color of the flooring is significantly darker than the walls, and they, in turn, should be at least a tone darker than the ceiling.

A brick wall, not only as the basis of the structure, but also the decoration of the room is a frequent technique in modern interiors. Treated with special antiseptic sprays, the unpainted brickwork surface can act both as an accent and as a basis for finishing the vertical surfaces of a room.

Painted brickwork doesn't look as brutal as its raw version, but it is more suitable for a calm and peaceful environment in a bedroom or living room. It is most often performed in white and is a textured accent rather than a color one.

Floor finishes - a practical and aesthetic choice of material

Despite the fact that floors are far from the first thing that catches our eye when entering an unfamiliar room, they perform not only practical, but also decorative functions. Floors that look great can not only enhance the status of a room, but also transform it, make it unique, through the use of non-standard materials or interesting color combinations.

The flooring options are quite diverse, as are the materials that are used for these purposes. Currently, the most popular flooring finishes are the following materials:

  • linoleum;
  • parquet;
  • laminate;
  • carpet;
  • ceramic tiles (usually porcelain stoneware);
  • bulk floor 3D;
  • cork floors.

If we talk about the materials that most of our compatriots use to decorate the flooring in rooms such as a bedroom, living room and nursery, then the top three are:

  • linoleum (due to its low cost, rich choice of colors and patterns, quick installation and the ability to carry it out independently);
  • Russians love the laminate for its practicality, strength and the ability to independently assemble in the presence of a rich choice of color palette;
  • parquet is a natural floor covering that can harmoniously fit into almost any interior style.

Parquet - small wooden planks lined with a herringbone pattern (the most common option) will never go out of style due to their versatility.

Modern laminate flooring is able to very effectively imitate wood flooring and perfectly integrate into rooms decorated in any interior style. The impression of the presence of wood in the decoration of a room not only raises its status, but also gives a natural warmth to the atmosphere.

And, of course, nothing can replace natural wood planks, which can be used to cover the floor of a space in any stylistic direction - from classics to ultra-modern styles.

In most cases, wooden floorboards are used in their natural color, they are only treated with special mixtures and transparent varnishes to give the material certain properties. But there are interiors in which the floorboard is painted with floor paint (as a rule, in a light color or vice versa, a very dark color).

Porcelain stoneware for cladding private rooms is rarely used, despite its high strength and durability characteristics. This material has a technological focus on rooms with high humidity, where other types of flooring cannot cope. However, ceramic tile flooring can be seen in bedrooms or living rooms of country houses, beach houses

Cork flooring is an environmentally friendly design option that is strong and durable enough. But the resulting appearance of the flooring is not suitable for every style, besides, its price is quite high compared to finishing with laminate or linoleum.

Interior decoration is an important part and the final stage of the construction of a country house. Many do not think about this during the construction of the foundation and installation of a log house, installation of communication systems. But when the house is already under the roof, the engineering networks have been installed, the question arises of how to decorate the wooden house inside. Zero finishing is not suitable for everyone, and it also requires special treatment of walls with paints and varnishes. In addition, a house with such a finish looks empty and uncomfortable.

I want the materials to be durable, reliable, but at the same time inexpensive. As a result, the interior is cozy, comfortable and attractive. In addition, when arranging a wooden house, it is important that the products are environmentally friendly, preserve the naturalness of the structure and maintain a comfortable indoor microclimate. Today the market offers a lot of finishing materials. In this article we will look at how to sheathe the walls in a wooden house inside inexpensively and beautifully.

Features of the choice of finishing materials

  • Pay attention to the markings. The E1 designation says that the building materials are intended for residential premises, E2 - for the hallway, kitchen, toilet, utility rooms, E3 - for public and industrial premises;
  • If you use wood finishing materials, you can choose a class and quality worse than required. After that, finalize the products and bring them into aesthetic appearance on their own. For example, sand and grind, varnish and / or paint, saturate with protective compounds, trim if necessary. Thus, you will spend less financial resources than buying high-class materials;
  • For rooms with high humidity (bathroom and toilet, balcony, basement, cellar, etc.), choose moisture-resistant materials. If you use wooden products, be sure to treat the products with protective agents against the negative effects of moisture, rot and mold;
  • Choose environmentally friendly natural materials for decorating a wooden house. In such a structure, plastic double-glazed windows or panels will look inappropriate. They will violate the environmental friendliness of the house, introduce disharmony and only spoil the interior;
  • Choose durable, reliable materials and do not forget about the quality of the finishing work. Remember that a wooden blockhouse will gradually shrink, which can lead to cracks. Think about this point in advance so as not to make repairs every 3-5 years and not to change the damaged skin.

Can not use

Before deciding how to sheathe a wooden house from the inside, let's take a look at what materials will not work. When finishing, you need to abandon plastic panels and linoleum. Such products are characterized by availability and cost-effectiveness, high resistance to moisture and a wide selection of colors, easy installation. However, the advantages of PVC overlap the artificiality and lack of environmental friendliness. They emit a strong toxic odor when heated, collect dust, and allow air and steam to pass through.

Linoleum is a popular flooring available, but not recommended for wood floors. It is not environmentally friendly and requires careful preparation of the base, since the material can only be laid on a flat surface. In addition, it does not look very appropriate in a wooden house. In rare cases, linoleum can be laid in utility rooms or in the basement. However, it is better to lay the usual wooden boards there.

OSB, fiberboard or chipboard panels are also not suitable, since harmful industrial glue is used in the manufacture of materials. In addition, these are the most environmentally friendly products that are made from wood waste. They do not have a very aesthetic appearance, so such materials are often used for rough finishing. Including it is not recommended to use laminate flooring. It is not resistant to moisture, slippery and cold.

MDF wall panels are a foreign analogue of fiberboard, which is more environmentally friendly, since toxic resins and enzymes are not used when gluing individual elements. These panels are easy to mount directly onto walls. They are distinguished by a variety of designs and colors. However, they are not at all resistant to high humidity and wear.

The panels listed above are not strong enough and not resistant to moisture. In addition, they are fire hazardous and are not very attractive in appearance. When clad with such panels, the room looks more like an office or study than a living room.

But what then to choose and what is the best way to sheathe the walls inside a wooden house? A suitable option would be natural materials made of wood with a protective impregnation. It can be planed and sanded boards, lining, veneer and other similar products. Let's take a closer look at what materials are better for finishing a country house from a bar or log.

Wooden finishing materials

Immediately, we note that the most suitable option would be a wooden lining. It is an affordable material with an attractive appearance, environmentally friendly and natural, easy to install and maintain. Thin slats are used for both the ceiling and walls. If you want to create the effect of a log house, choose a block house that mimics a rounded log. One surface of the block house is semicircular and the other is flat.

Lining is the best combination of price, quality, appearance and environmental friendliness. But if you're willing to pay, opt for luxury natural wood materials. These are cork panels and solid wood panels.

Cork covering - modern materials that are distinguished by environmental friendliness, high quality, strength and durability, luxurious appearance. They perfectly tolerate high humidity and are suitable for every type of room. The only but significant disadvantage is the very high cost.

A solid board or solid wood panels is also an expensive option, but at the same time it is very reliable and of high quality, since it is completely made of natural wood of an elite species. Such coverage looks expensive, luxurious and prestigious. A solid array, even under heavy loads and high humidity, will easily serve without repair for 30-50 years.

Parquet board is a suitable option for finishing the floor in a wooden house. This is an affordable material that characterizes easy and quick installation. Decorative painting or varnishing will make the appearance of the parquet sophisticated and aesthetic.

Veneer panels are a great budget material for wall sheathing. It represents a thin cut of solid wood that retains the woody pattern, color, texture and structure. For finishing, choose only natural veneer, as it is more durable and reliable.

The veneer has an attractive appearance, is characterized by ease of installation and practicality, good sound and heat insulation, low price. But at the same time, the basis of the material is fiberboard or chipboard, so the material is not 100% environmentally friendly and cannot be used in rooms with high humidity.

Other types of budget materials

Plaster is a traditional option for finishing the ceiling, which is sometimes used for walls. It is an inexpensive and affordable material, easy to use and install. It will give a flat white surface, but white is not always appropriate in a wooden house. Such material is used if it suits the style of room decoration. For example, it can be classic or French provence.

Drywall is an affordable and fast finishing option. These are sheets of cellulose and compressed gypsum that are easy to install and secure. Modern manufacturers produce material with a special treatment that increases resistance to moisture and fire. Plasterboard allows you to create complex design projects, install two-level ceilings. However, this is a fragile and not very aesthetic material, therefore it requires revision after installation (painting or wallpapering).

Ceramic or tile tiles are suitable for finishing a bathroom, bathroom or kitchen. When laying tiles on your bathroom floor, choose products with a rough surface to prevent slipping and ensure safety. This material is characterized by strength, durability and increased resistance to moisture and dampness. Today you can find a lot of design options for tiles, including those decorated under a tree.

But when laying tiles on wooden walls, keep in mind that a reinforced base must be made under the material, otherwise the product will not last long! It is not necessary to completely lay out the bathroom with tiles. You can sheathe only individual areas or use mosaics. By the way, the combination of mosaic and wooden materials looks very impressive and harmonious.

Lining is the best option

Wooden lining is characterized by high strength, reliability, aesthetics and 100% environmental friendliness. Such products are used for cladding walls and ceilings in a wooden cottage, country house, bathhouse and sauna, balcony and loggia, in an apartment. This is a versatile material that is easy to install, so even a non-professional can handle the installation.

Narrow thin slats are tightly adjacent to each other, form good sound and heat insulation, level the surface of the walls and ceiling. Wooden materials look aesthetically pleasing and sophisticated. If you want to save money, buy grade B. After installation, defects can be hidden with varnish or paint. Class A is more expensive and elite, it does not need to be completed, and grade C is only suitable for rough work or finishing of utility rooms.

Do not forget about the protective treatment of the lining. You can buy ready-made materials or process the wood yourself. The second option will be cheaper. Install the lining on the lathing made of bars. It is convenient to install hydro- and heat-insulating materials in the crate. The slats can be laid vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

Today you will find a wide assortment of lining, differing in type of wood, width and length, profile and class. The best combination of quality and price for pine. This type of wood is suitable for a house, summer cottage or gazebo. For a bath, choose linden or alder, as they tolerate moisture and high temperatures well, and do not heat up. After installation, you can paint the material in any color, achieve the desired shade or shine.

Can drywall be used to decorate a wooden house

Drywall is the most popular finishing material that is used both in an apartment and in a private house. These are flexible sheets with a refractory surface and increased moisture resistance. They create a flat surface and hide flaws in walls or ceilings, and are easy to install.

Drywall hides pipes, wires and other communications. But the main advantage of this material is availability and low cost. In addition, today on the market you can find slabs of different sizes, shapes and colors, which allows you to create any room design.

But plasterboard finishing often looks unfinished and requires a finish painting or wallpapering. In addition, it is a rather fragile and fragile material that may not cope with serious loads. Therefore, drywall is best used to create partitions or shelving, but not for finishing a wooden house.

If you decide to use drywall, choose only quality products from a reliable manufacturer. Often, harmful toxic substances are added to the material, which is harmful to human health and violates the environmental friendliness of a wooden house. High-quality real drywall is safe, as it is made of natural gypsum.

In the company "MariSrub" you can order the construction of a house from a log or a turnkey bar! The company's craftsmen will perform all the finishing work with high quality and reliability, including the installation and connection of engineering networks, wall cladding, ceiling and floor cladding, installation of windows and doors. Wall panels have taken their place in the building materials market relatively recently,

You can add originality to the room thanks to wall decoration with panels, but they have already managed to gain a very good reputation. You do not need to fiddle with such panels, such as wallpaper or paint, they ideally hide all the irregularities and other imperfections of the wall surfaces. As for the price, you can choose such material depending on the budget calculated for the repair, because the price for it is quite affordable for almost any person. You can order the simplest panels of the same color, or you can buy panels in a designer design, which will cost more, of course.

Paint instead of wallpaper on the wall: types and advantages

Paint is one of the oldest materials used by people to decorate the walls in their homes. Decorative paint has a lot of simply undeniable advantages and is increasingly used for wall decoration instead of wallpaper. This is not such a cheap pleasure, because the paint itself costs decent money, and in order to apply it correctly and with high quality, you will need to make every effort. To decorate the walls with paint, it is better to use the services of professionals, because an inexperienced beginner is unlikely to be able to cope with such a task on his own.

Walls can be painted in any color that will harmoniously fit into the interior

There are several types of wall paint. The most popular types:

  • Structural;
  • Decorative;
  • Emulsion;
  • Acrylic;
  • Latex;
  • Silicone;
  • Polyvinyl acetate;
  • Enamel;

Choosing panels on the wall instead of wallpaper (video)

How to remove old wallpaper from the walls with a minimum amount of time and without damaging the putty? How to prepare the substrate for painting? What wall paint is the most practical and durable? Today we will try to answer these questions.

How to remove wallpaper

Preparing walls for painting begins with removing old wallpaper. The method, quite predictably, depends on their type.

Paper, non-woven

The wallpaper is soaked with water (for this you need to wet it abundantly twice with an interval of 10 minutes) and remove from the base in whole strips. Remains are cleaned with a steel trowel.

Vinyl

Thick vinyl wallpaper, when you try to remove it from the wall, does not peel off, but delaminates: the vinyl covering remains in your hands, and the paper or non-woven backing is on the wall.

There are two possible solutions to this problem:

  1. Remove the vinyl and then peel back the backing as described above;
  2. Soak the backing with water directly through the coating. For this, the wallpaper must first be rolled with a needle roller.

Glass fiber

Do you have glass wallpaper pasted at home, the color of which you are tired of? And do you think paint instead of wallpaper will solve this problem? We have two news: good and bad.

The first is that the glass wallpaper glued to the waterproof glue can be removed only with an abrasive tool. If you try to tear them off the walls, you will damage the putty, and if the walls were leveled with drywall, you will tear off its shell from the gypsum core.

The second piece of news: it is not necessary to remove the fiberglass wallpaper. If you are satisfied with their texture, paint the walls directly over the old coating: the fiberglass can be repainted up to 10-12 times.

How to choose paint

First, a few words about what paint should be: wall decoration should meet a number of general requirements.

These include:

  • Lack of toxic components and pungent odor. Ideally, there should be no odors not only during the operation of the premises (including in hot weather), but also during painting;
  • Color fastness to dry wear. It will hardly please you if the walls stain your clothes;
  • In the bathroom, in the kitchen and in the hallway, the paint must be washable. In these rooms, the walls will inevitably get dirty when in contact with splashes and outer clothing.

The first requirement limits our choice of water-based paints: thanks to the water-based paint, they do not smell at all. Not during application, not later. However, these include dyes based on different binders.

Let's try to figure out who is who on this list:

Image Description

Silicate: the role of a binder is played by liquid glass (it may be known to the reader as a stationery glue). The coating is moderately moisture resistant, does not tolerate dry wear and may stain clothing in contact with walls. This family of paints is rarely used for interior decoration.

Acrylic paints: binder - acrylic resin. Dry abrasion resistance is high for the entire family, moisture resistance varies from medium to high. Suitable for living rooms, but when renovating the bathroom and kitchen, it is better to look towards competing solutions.

Latex (on artificial latex): moisture resistance is above average, very moderate resistance to dry and wet abrasion. As a consequence, the coating cannot be washed when dirty. Verdict: For dry rooms only.

Rubber "Resel +". Made in Sevastopol

Rubber: a type of acrylic latex paint, which is a complete waterproofing and washable coating. Can be used without restrictions: splashes, grease and other contaminants are washed off with any detergent (except, of course, abrasive), leaving no residue.

Silicone (binder - silicone resin): Another paint for wet rooms and walls prone to abrasion. The highest wear resistance is combined in a very pleasant way with absolute moisture resistance. Not only that, silicone paint is self-cleaning, repelling dust and dirt. The only drawback of the family is the relatively high price (from 150 rubles per kilogram).

How to prepare the walls

The wall to be painted must be:

  1. Clean (including dust, mildew and grease stains);
  2. Perfectly flat. If wallpaper (especially textured wallpaper) is able to hide rather significant irregularities, then the paint will make them more than noticeable;

By the way: most of the wall defects are emphasized by the glossy finish. Matt paints are somewhat less demanding on the surface.

  1. Durable. If the putty or plaster is flaking off the masonry, the wall finishing career is unlikely to be long;
  2. Moderately absorbent. Loose plaster will absorb too much paint in the first coat, which will affect the renovation budget.

How can this be achieved?

  • Defects are eliminated by filling with subsequent sanding (see How to sand the walls after puttingty and how to do it correctly). With any significant size of irregularities, it is worth using an inexpensive gypsum plaster (universal or finishing) for dry rooms and cement - for wet ones. If we are talking about small potholes, then it is easier to use a ready-to-use acrylic putty;

  • Dusting the walls after sanding is best done with an industrial or, in extreme cases, a household vacuum cleaner. In their absence, you can use a regular broom brush;
  • Oily stains are removed with an organic solvent (gasoline, acetone, white spirit, solvent, etc.) using a clean and dry cloth (see How to clean a wall from greasy stains: tips);
  • The fungus is perfectly removed from the walls with "Whiteness" - a bleaching and detergent based on sodium hypochlorite;

Attention: before repairing the walls, it is worth eliminating the cause of the appearance of the fungus. In the bathroom, these are most often constant leaks from neighbors and poor ventilation, in living rooms - freezing of the walls. In the latter case, the external insulation of the facade or installation of a heating radiator in the problem corner will help to correct the situation.

  • Preparing walls for painting with your own hands ends with priming with penetrating primer (see Primer for walls for painting - types and tasks). The type of primer must match the paint: silicone for silicone dye, acrylic for acrylic, and so on. The primer will prevent shedding of the surface of the walls, glue the dust that has survived on them and fill some of the pores, reducing paint absorption.

How to paint

Let's start with a list of the tools you need to paint.

The video attached to the article will help you learn more about the secrets of repair.

We will need:

  • Roller. The optimal tool width is 25-30 centimeters. Fur coat - with medium pile: it will not flood the walls and floor, and at the same time will not force you to dip the roller in the paint too often;
  • Brush. We will paint over the corners and other problem areas (abutment to baguettes, door frames, etc.);
  • Painting tray. It is much more convenient to dip the roller into it, in addition, the tray allows you to roll out the tool, evenly soaking it with paint. If you do this directly on the surface of the walls, their color may become uneven.

Step-by-step painting instructions are extremely simple:

  1. Paint over all corners and joints with a brush;

  1. Apply the first coat of paint with a roller;
  2. Wait for the paint to dry (usually it takes no more than an hour);
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 until a uniform color is obtained.

As is customary, nuances are important to get a good result.

  • Everything that you are not going to paint (switches, non-removable door trims, etc.) should first be sealed with masking tape. This is much easier than washing off dried paint later;

  • The dye should not be too viscous. If it thickens, dilute it with water (about 1/10 volume) and mix thoroughly. Excessive viscosity will mean streaks and will prevent you from applying paint in a thin, even layer;
  • The room temperature should not be below +5 and above +30 degrees. In the first case, the paint will thicken and will dry for a long time, in the second, it will dry out before you evenly distribute it over the surface of the walls;
  • The brush and roller are thoroughly washed after each layer is applied, otherwise the paint that dries on them will leave streaks on the surface to be painted;

  • The wall is painted in one go, without interruption. If, after painting its section, you leave for a smoke break, after completing the painting, you will get a thickening of the coating at the border of this section;
  • The unpainted area can be tinted only if it is not dry yet. The reason is the same - get the influx;
  • Layers are stacked at right angles to each other. This will make the stripes from the roller and brush less noticeable;
  • Apply the last layer parallel to the lighting (light from a window or from the brightest lamp). The goal is the same: to make the stripes from the instrument less noticeable.

Conclusion

We hope that now painting the walls instead of wallpaper will not cause you any difficulties. Good luck!
