Storing beets in the apartment

It is not easy to create suitable conditions for storing vegetables in an apartment. But, if other options are not available, choose a dark, humid place with a cool temperature. A loggia, a balcony or a spacious storage room will do. The process of preparing beets for storage in an apartment is as follows:

  • prepare two cardboard boxes;
  • place the container one inside the other like a nesting doll. It is desirable that the distance between the boxes is 10 cm;
  • loosely fill the gap with crumpled newspapers or coconut for thermal insulation;
  • Place a 3–5 cm layer of sawdust, sand, peat, or dry moss on the bottom of the inner box to maintain temperature and humidity. It is advisable to ignite the sand in order to get rid of pests;
