The FR 124 draft regulator regulates the amount of air entering the firebox. By opening and closing the air supply damper of a solid fuel boiler, the desired temperature of the water entering the system is maintained.
1. Heat the water in the solid fuel boiler to a temperature of about 60 °C.
2. Set the regulator to 60 °C.
3. Adjust the air supply damper so that it is slightly open by 1-2 mm. - this is done manually, shortening or increasing the length of the chain.
4. Check: set the regulator to 70 °C and monitor the water temperature. When 70 or 75 degrees are reached, the air supply damper to the boiler should close.

Honeywell FR 124 draft regulator can be installed on the boiler in a vertical, horizontal and horizontal-lateral working position.
At vertical installation the tip for attaching the rod should be directed forward, and temperature is read on a red scale.
When horizontal - the tip should point downwards, A temperature is read on a white scale.
And when installed horizontally on the side, the tip is directed upward.
After installing the draft regulator on the solid fuel boiler, the free end of the chain is left hanging freely. It is attached to the damper when setting the regulator.
Setup. Light the boiler with the door manually open. Use the button on the regulator to set 60 °C. When the water temperature reaches 60 °C and after a few minutes of stabilization, adjust the chain hanger so that the door remains open approximately 1-2 mm. Now you need to set the required temperature. If during operation in a stabilized state the boiler temperature is lower than the set one, shorten the chain. If the boiler temperature is higher than the set one, lengthen the chain. But keep in mind that the boiler temperature can be affected by the amount of fuel and ash, the position of the secondary air, the inertia of the boiler and the entire heating system.

1.1.After filling the heating system and boiler with water, check the tightness of the entire system. Do this before lighting the boiler and after lighting it, when the boiler reaches normal operating mode.
1.2.Check whether the lower ash cleaning doors of the boiler are tightly closed (Fig. 1, No. 13). Before loading firewood into the combustion chamber of the boiler, Necessarily lift the air distributor (Fig. 1, no. 16). The ring hanging at the end of the cable (on the right) above the firewood loading door must be smoothly pulled down and attached to the hook for fixing the cable (Fig. 1, No. 24) at the bottom of the boiler. It is necessary to completely close the air supply damper using the draft control knob (turn it towards the 30 0 C value) (Fig. 1, No. 14).
1.3. Throw firewood through the firewood loading door (Fig. 1, No. 12) into the combustion chamber of the boiler (Fig. 1 No. 1). Try to ensure that the firewood falls horizontally (all the time in the same direction): longer in the middle, shorter at the edges. It is not recommended that the logs fall perpendicularly into the middle, this way you can fill the edges. The spaces between the firewood can be filled with sawdust or other small bulk fuel. Compressed sawdust in the form of granules is especially suitable. Fuel is loaded approximately to the bottom edge of the firewood loading door. Then, place paper closer to the door (preferably over the entire area) and, having removed the ring from the hook for fixing the lifting cable, smoothly lower the air distributor down so that it lies on top of the loaded firewood. Then we cover the air distributor with a layer approximately 10-15 cm thick on all sides with finely chopped firewood and wood chips and light it. The fuel loading door opens slightly, leaving a gap 2-5 cm wide. When the fuel flares up well, use the draft control knob to set the desired working temperature boiler and the firewood loading door closes immediately.
Attention! It is prohibited to store firewood in the boiler. After loading firewood, you need to light it.
You can only place firewood or chips on the air distributor when lighting firewood in the combustion chamber. During combustion, throw firewood without lifting the air distributor, strictly prohibited. It is also prohibited to let air through the bottom door during kindling and combustion to clean the ash. It is not recommended to keep the firewood loading door open for a long time when lighting, and even more so while the wood is burning in the boiler. Then more fuel is consumed and air is distributed incorrectly in the combustion chamber. During combustion, the air distributor must not be lifted. By hitting the wood with an air distributor softened by the heat, you will bend it.
2. Service
2.1. Since air is supplied to the combustion chamber from above, the amount of ash in the boiler does not interfere with the combustion process. This allows ash to be removed only 2-3 times a month, depending on the heating intensity (fuel type). Ash is removed from the boiler through the ash cleaning door (Fig. 1, no. 13).
Attention! In any case of cleaning the boiler, strictly follow the established procedure:
a) Clean the boiler only after complete combustion fuel and cooling the boiler to a temperature not higher than + 40 0 C.
b) Turn the draft control knob towards the 30 0 C value so that the air supply damper is completely closed (Fig. 1, No. 14).
c) The fuel loading door (Fig. 1 No. 12) must be tightly closed.
d) Open the ash cleaning door (Fig. 1, No. 13) and use a scraper and scoop to rake the ash into a metal container (box, bucket).
e) After removing the ash, close the door tightly.
2.2. Soot and deposits below the firewood loading door do not need to be cleaned. Each time, when igniting wood above, after previous heating, the accumulated soot and tar are partially knocked down when the wood is thrown into the combustion chamber, and the rest is burned.
2.3. Cleaning soot and deposits in the heat transfer gap located between internal contour housing (Fig. 1, No. 2) and an air heating chamber (Fig. 1, No. 18), is carried out in the following order:
a) turn the draft control knob towards the 30 0 C value so that the air supply damper closes tightly,
b) after 20 seconds, slowly open the firewood loading door,
c) the air distributor must be lowered to the bottom of the boiler,
d) use a wrench to loosen the two nuts securing the power damper (Fig. 1, No. 20) and pull the power damper (Fig. 1, No. 19) towards you or remove it by unscrewing the nuts,
e) using a scraper or metal brush remove plaque and soot from the gap, and screw the power valve back on.
2.4. A lowered air distributor can pick up old ash, so you should occasionally check its slots and clean them.
2.5. If you notice that the air supply pipe (Fig. 1, No. 21) moves more difficultly, clean it with a wire brush.
2.6. Check the water pressure in the heating system at least once every two weeks. Add if necessary. If the system is equipped with an open expansion vessel, check the water level in it.
2.7. When the boiler is not heated, at an air temperature below 0 0 C, water is released from the heating system.
3. Installation rules for the “Honeywell” FR 124 draft regulator.

After the water temperature in the boiler drops, the draft regulator automatically opens the air supply damper. When the temperature reaches 70 0 C or slightly exceeds the mentioned value, the regulator automatically closes the damper. This way the set operating temperature in the boiler is maintained. If the chain is disconnected or if a discrepancy between the set temperature and the boiler temperature is noticed, the draft regulator is reset in the manner described above.
