Ceiling corner fillets. How to cut ceiling plinth and floor. How to cut a ceiling plinth without special tools

The installation of the skirting board is the finishing touch of the renovation. And if the installation of the product on straight sections of the joints of the walls and ceiling is easy enough, then facing the corners often causes problems. Many people, not knowing the technology for cutting the plinth, spoil more than a dozen planks in the hope of joining them in difficult places. We will tell you how to properly refine the outer and inner corners so that they look neat and give the interior a complete look.

Varieties of ceiling plinths and scope

Before moving on to the issue of cutting a product, let's consider its varieties. Indeed, it depends on the choice of this finishing element whether the room will receive the desired visual volume and whether it will become more comfortable and pleasing to the eye.

It is not so difficult to choose the ideal option for finishing the ceiling joint, which will harmoniously combine with the decoration of the room, because the range of products is very wide today. On sale there are ceiling plinths (fillets) made of different materials: plastic, foam, polyurethane, expanded polystyrene, wood and gypsum. Moreover, all strips can have a different color, texture, profile configuration, and dimensions. Consider the features of the use of fillets, depending on what material they are made of.

Knowing which type of skirting board is better to use in a place that needs finishing, it will be easier for you to navigate when choosing a product and pay maximum attention to creating your own unique interior design.

  1. Plastic products, in addition to the decorative function, can be used as a groove for fixing PVC wall panels. Such fillets are not glued to the surface, but are attached to a pre-assembled frame by means of brackets or self-tapping screws.
  2. It is advisable to use foam planks for finishing plasterboard suspended ceilings. They can also be installed on the concrete base itself, previously plastered. This is the most budget-friendly option for a ceiling plinth, as the product has a rough surface that is prone to contamination. Therefore, it is advisable to apply a layer of paint on such fillets after installation.
  3. Polyurethane decorative elements are used for the final finishing of false ceilings made of PVC panels. The fillet is fixed using a special glue for PVC products.
  4. The expanded polystyrene ceiling plinth is a versatile finishing element, as it can be used for finishing primed surfaces as well as ceilings lined with plastic panels. The plinth can be fastened with special glue or plaster putty.
  5. Plaster products are often used to give the interior a certain pomp, typical, for example, of royal houses. Installation of such skirting boards is carried out on gypsum materials, that is, putty or alabaster.
  6. A fillet made of wood is a classic option for decorating ceiling-wall joints. This is the most expensive skirting board option, but also the most durable.

Tools for the job

The first question asked by people who are going to install the plinth with their own hands is how to cut it? The tool is selected depending on the material from which the fillet is made. For example, PVC products have a hollow structure. Therefore, in order to make the cut edges as smooth as possible when cutting them, you need to use a hacksaw with fine teeth. Otherwise, cracks and chips may form on the finish.

The best option is to use a saw for metal - its teeth are small, and the width of their set is suitable. However, the use of a hacksaw is limited to products with a rigid structure, that is, it is not suitable for thin-walled fillets. The fact is that the teeth can severely damage the surface of the skirting board.

You can also use a hand jigsaw to cut fillets. When cutting products with such a tool, the corners are as even as possible. But this device has several disadvantages. Due to the small length of the cutting blade, the use of a miter box (a special tool for cutting skirting boards) becomes very problematic. In addition, cutting is slow.

Helpful advice: If the fillet has thin walls, then use a clerical knife to cut it, namely its construction modification with a reinforced blade.

What is a miter box?

High-quality trimming of the product is possible only with strict observance of geometric shapes. When installing the skirting board, the fulfillment of this condition is extremely important, because in order to obtain a neat connecting seam between decorative elements, an even cut is necessary. If this procedure is carried out "by eye", then a gapless connection of two skirting boards will not be possible, because the ends will not correspond to each other.

The highest quality cut can be made using a special carpentry tool called a miter box. Its design can be different, but the principle of operation always remains the same. There are devices with manual adjustment of the cutting angle, but often builders use a standard variation of the tool, which is a wooden or plastic tray with vertical grooves in the walls for inserting the saw. Thanks to the miter box, you can easily perform vertical trimming of skirting boards at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees.

In addition to cutting tools and carpentry tools, when installing the fillet, you may need: a pencil, a protractor, a self-tapping screw, assembly glue and sealant.

Corner trimming technology

Fillets for outer corners are cut in the opposite direction

You can cut the skirting board with and without a miter box. Let's consider each of the ways. Cutting a corner with a good quality is very easy with a special tool. First, the required fillet length is measured. Then the first plinth is placed in the miter box, and the cutting tool is inserted into the vertical holes. The location of the hacksaw is selected based on the angle at which the product needs to be cut. Next, the cut is made. At the second stage, the second plank is trimmed, which will dock with the first. In this case, the hacksaw should be inserted into opposite grooves at the same angle.

Important: When combining two planks, a right angle should be formed between them. Only in this case, you can proceed to the next stage - fixing the product.

Cutting corners without the use of carpentry tools is carried out using the markings at the installation site. The greatest inconvenience in this case is to keep the decorative element under the ceiling. First, measurements are taken here: the planks cut at a right angle are applied in turn to the place of their installation and outlined with a pencil. The result is a connection point for the elements. Then a cut line is drawn on the strips from the joint point to the corner and the products are cut off, followed by checking the accuracy of the connection.

Cutting instruction

To join the trim element at the inner corner, you need to undercut the left and right planks. Consider a cutting method using a miter box. The procedure is as follows:

For ease of cutting, insert the right plinth into the tray from the left side, turning it over

  1. First, we mark the corner in order to eliminate the situation with a shortage of the length of the prepared product.
  2. We take the left bar in the left hand and install it in the miter box at the side of the device farthest from us. In this case, the fillet is placed at an angle at which it will be installed to the ceiling.
  3. Next, insert the saw into the near right and far left vertical holes of the miter box (at an angle of 45 degrees to the bar). We make a cut.
  4. We set the right bar by analogy with the left one. In this case, the product must be turned over so that its ceiling edge lies on the base of the miter box.
  5. This time we insert the hacksaw into the near left and far right grooves. We carry out the cut.
  6. We take both planks, join them on the floor and check the accuracy of their fit to each other.

As for the outer corners, they are rarely found indoors, but, unlike the inner ones, their flaws are more noticeable. In this case, an extremely accurate docking is required. If the internal angle is 90 degrees, then the external angle is 270 degrees. Therefore, fillets are cut in the opposite direction here.

To finish the outer corner, the left plinth of the plinth is cut in the same way as the right for the inner corner, and the right one is similar to the left

Stages of work:

  1. We measure the sides of the corner.
  2. We take the left bar in the left hand and set it in the miter box.
  3. We insert the hacksaw into the near left and far right grooves at an angle of 45 degrees to the baseboard and cut the product.
  4. We start the strike plate by turning it over. We put the saw in the near right and far left holes. We make a cut.
  5. We check the accuracy of the joint of two planks on the floor. If everything is in order, then you can proceed to fixing the decorative element.

How to cut fillets correctly

If you have rounded corners in your home, then finishing them will take more time and labor. Installation of a plinth in this case requires certain skills. Such corners can be refined in two ways:

  1. We cut the fillet into pieces 5 cm wide. Depending on the length of the arc, a different number of pieces may be required, but it is advisable to use at least four. Straight ends should be only at the extreme parts, which will dock with the skirting board itself.
  2. Now we glue the outermost pieces to the previously installed straight fillets.
  3. We adjust the rest of the pieces, trimming them as needed. We glue all the parts end-to-end.
  4. We close the gaps with a sealant or putty. We tint and mask the joints, giving the finish a complete look.

Helpful Hint: Number all the pieces so that you don't mix up the order of their installation.

The installation of the plinth on the columns and pillars located in the room is carried out in the same way.

The use of a flexible fillet allows you to reduce the number of corner parts to the maximum, because in some situations one plank is enough to finish the corner. Often this skirting board is made of polyurethane, so it can be bent at any angle. By the way, the product is often used for cladding complex ceiling structures with rounded elements.

The presence of fittings in the interior is not always appropriate. A more aesthetic approach to joining a ceiling plinth is to form joint joints. Accurate cutting of the product is the key to the beautiful appearance of the entire finish.

Ceiling renovation is completed by decoration with skirting boards. Pruning them is not a daunting task, but it requires some skill and accuracy. We will tell you how you can cut ceiling moldings using a special tool - a miter box. Since it is not available in all homes, we will also consider an alternative option in which you can do without it.

And now - about everything in order.

What tools do you need?

  • Miter box - this aluminum, plastic or wooden professional carpentry tool has the form of a groove in the shape of an inverted letter P. With its help, the material can be cut at the required angle. Usually it is fixed on a table or workbench. It is safe and easy to use;
  • Electric miter saw that replaces the miter box. Provides high precision cuts;
  • An electric jigsaw with which you can;
  • Sharp and well-sharpened knife for processing foam skirting boards;
  • Saw for manipulating wooden moldings or blade - when working with all others, including foam and plastic.

We cut with a miter box

The use of a miter box is justified when the room has relatively even corners and walls. For correct cutting of the corner, the part in which the saw is supposed to be made is placed in the miter box, and the saw is inserted into the tool guides. Remaining motionless, the part allows you to "cut itself" at the desired angle.

For fillet cutting to be effective, it must be in close contact with both surfaces at the same time. This is possible if it is firmly pressed against the wall of the tool by a section closer to the working one.

Suppose you want to cut a 45 degree corner. First of all, the baguette should be correctly positioned in the miter box.

Cutting sequence:

  • Having determined the direction in which the cut will be made, we cut off the corner;
  • We put together the cut out areas, we get two corners: external and internal;
  • Attaching the miter box to the ceiling, we check how even the cuts are. If necessary, you can touch up something with a knife or use the services of a putty.

Cutting without the aid of a miter box

Often it just does not make sense to purchase this tool for a professional for one repair. You can completely do without a miter box, using a pencil, a sharp sharpened knife and a good eye. How? There are several ways to do this.

Method one: cook something similar yourself. To do this, you need to put together a tray using three planks, then make a cut at an angle of 45 degrees, and to facilitate further actions, make a markup using a school protractor or a square.

DIY miter box

Method two: a paper or cardboard template is cut out, on which a reference line is drawn. In this case, when knocking the planks at an angle of ninety degrees, they will need not three, but two! How do you trim the corners? We put the baguette into the analogue of the tray prepared by us in such a way that its position corresponds to that with which the plinth will be fixed to the ceiling, then we set the tray along the edge of our standard. Next, you should cut the baguette along the line drawn on the standard, keeping the cutting tool in an upright position.

Another method using a custom tray. It can be imitated even by a table pushed close to the wall, and at least by the angle separating the wall and the floor covering.

Cutting corners:

  • We mark the proposed angles on the ceiling and wall, as well as on the fillet itself, focusing on an imaginary line cutting through both parts of the baguette;
  • We install the plinth in the tray in the same way as it will be further fixed to the ceiling, and cut it with a knife or cloth held in a strictly vertical position.

How to cut without tools at all?

In this case, it is necessary:

  • Make the necessary marks on the baguettes;
  • Connect the edges of the baguettes to the marks using a regular ruler. In the future, trimming can be done by already making measurements at the top;
  • Having laid on the table the segment marked for trimming with the area that will be joined to the ceiling, we cut it at a 45 degree angle. The need for correction will be much less in this case;
  • The above steps are repeated for the outer corner.

You noticed that we did not need any special tools: we just need to tune in to the fact that there may be a need for adjustment.

How to make the correct docking?

If, after gluing a part of the baguette, there is some distance to the corner, you need to think about how to avoid a mistake - a small margin will not hurt. First, it is better to cut off a piece with a good margin of about 10-15 cm. Then, cutting off the corner by any convenient method, try it on a dry surface. To do this, attach a plank to the ceiling and mark the point where the shortening border will pass. Cutting is done at right angles.

Competent alignment of the corners is no less important. Finished skirting boards are usually fixed at an angle slightly less than 45 degrees, so there may be inconsistencies in the cut edges and gaps. Here, the initial trimming of the corners is followed by a dry, if possible precise joining of the skirting boards already on the ceiling itself. Problems usually arise when using wood and plastic materials.

At the end of the rough joints of fillets, either screw them on, and then, if necessary, use the help of a putty and then seal all existing seams.

The ceiling plinth performs mainly decorative functions, it allows you to hide all the errors of the repair. It is attached after pasting the wallpaper at the junction of the walls and ceiling. A well-chosen skirting board can visually expand a room. It all depends on the chosen model and size. Now on the construction market you can find a huge variety of different ones. Currently, they are made from polystyrene, polystyrene, polyurethane, gypsum, polyvinyl chloride, which is the most economical option, and are also made from various types of wood. Wooden skirting boards look much more aristocratic than the others, but they are also harder to work with. In any case, the choice will mainly depend on the style of the room. Ceiling skirting boards are also called a frieze, baguette or dumbbell.

Performing the work, we prepare the following tools for cutting and joining:

  • a clerical knife or a knife for metal (depending on the material from which the plinth is made);
  • goniometer;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • miter box.

The miter box is a carpenter's tool. It looks like a small tray, which is made of plastic, wood or metal and has several slots for cutting at an angle of 45 and 90 degrees. There are other types, they are designed for more complex and professional work, but they are not necessary for ordinary repairs. Such a device is bought at any hardware store.

It is designed for cutting dumbbells at perfectly even angles, and if they are not such or the tool is not available for some reason, the element will need to be trimmed manually. To determine whether we need it or not, it is recommended to use a protractor. If they turned out to be curves, then before installing the baguette, they must be leveled with plaster or drywall.

The hardest part of joining is cutting. The slightest mistake leads to a waste of materials. Dumbbells are attached to the ceiling differently from the usual ones, but a little differently. It should be remembered that they are cut off not only from the front side, but also along the outer edge. The simplest material to work with is foam. It is easy to cut and not so fragile compared to other materials, so it is much easier to work with it.

How to cut a baguette with miter box

To cut a baguette using a miter box, we fix it in the tray as it will be attached to the ceiling. Cut it off along the guide groove. If it is wooden, then we cut it with an ordinary hacksaw. There is also a hacksaw for metal, and to cut off expanded polystyrene or polystyrene, we will use a simple clerical knife, but it must be very sharp so as not to damage anything.

How to cut a baguette without a miter box

If there is no miter box in the house, then its analogue is made with one's own hand. Alternatively, they draw on a simple album sheet. To do this, draw two lines on paper with marks of a certain degree. You can put them off using a regular school protractor. They use a miter box of their own production in the same way as a purchased one. You just need to put the product correctly and cut off the excess part.

It is also really possible to make it with your own hands from three boards, making slots there, which can be marked with a student's square or the same protractor.

Simple secrets of a successful baguette installation

When cutting, you should not make much effort, as the foam will crumble and the tree will split.

Dumbbell elements are usually tried on to the wall, and if there are no gaps and everything fits snugly, then the work is done correctly.

After the plinth is fixed in the corners, it is recommended to fix all subsequent parts, but before that they are processed at the junction with sandpaper. It must be remembered that the docking of each must be without cracks and irregularities.

For those who do not want to do difficult work, but are also not ready to give up the decorative element of the apartment, it is possible to use a special component that closes the joint. Looks very original and saves time and effort.

For a complete picture of the process of joining a ceiling molding, watch the video with a detailed description of the steps.

How to make an inner corner of a ceiling plinth

An internal angle is one that is not more than 180 degrees. These are the ones that most often have to be cut. Trimming the edges of the baguette is carried out, as a rule, with a miter box, but you can do without it.

If this happens with its help, then before docking it is necessary to take into account that the element that touches the side of the tool when cutting is glued to the wall of the room, and the one that touches the lower part is attached to its ceiling.

It is recommended to measure the angle between the walls of the room, and if it turns out to be straight, then the dumbbell is cut at an angle of 45 degrees. To make an undercut, first, the required element is installed in the miter box. Then the edges are cut off.

If the walls turned out to be crooked, then the best option is to cut the plinth yourself, you will need a ruler and a clerical knife. To do this, attach two different parts to the wall and mark the place of the cut with a pencil, and then carefully cut it off.

In order to control the accuracy of the work done, the product is first tried on to the wall, and only if it is cut off without any errors is it fixed, and if you nevertheless notice irregularities, then it is very easy to correct them with a clerical knife and only then mount them.

Usually, if the corners of the room are even, then no problems should arise with them, but if not, then minor flaws are always eliminated, the main thing is to try hard.

How to make the outer corner of a ceiling plinth

Inside corners are much more common than outside corners. Usually they are at least 180 degrees. Despite this, it is not at all difficult to dock them.

To properly cut the baguette, the first step is to draw a mark on it, for this we attach it to the ceiling and mark with a pencil the place where the cut is planned to be.

Then we put the product in the miter box at an angle of 45 degrees. When it is already placed there, it is carefully trimmed. It should be remembered that if that part of the dumbbell, which is more located on the left side, then we cut it off according to the left designation, in the same way as the inner corner. Then we cut off the right one according to the same plan.

When the ceiling frieze has already been cut, make sure it is done without any errors. To do this, fold the two pieces together and only if they fit perfectly can they be attached to the wall.

When cutting, the frieze should be kept straight, since with a curved trimming, gaps appear when joining and for the same reason it needs to be cut with only a sharp blade.

How to make your own corners on skirting boards without using a miter box

The most relevant method of cutting off the corners of dumbbells is the use of slusl, but it is used only if the room is perfectly flat. If the room is more than 20 years old, then it is not like that. Therefore, if you use it in such a situation and cut off the dumbbell at an angle of 45 degrees, a gap is formed, and it is practically impossible to hide it in the future. Cutting off the product without using it is possible using available means. So, for work you will need:

  • pencil;
  • ruler;
  • sharpened knife or jigsaw.

To trim the baguette bar without the use of special tools, you will need to follow several steps.

Step 1. You need to take one part of the plank and attach it to the wall exactly as it will look in the finished form.

Step 2. With a pencil, draw a line along the dumbbell itself and remove it.

Step 3. Attach the second part of the frieze to the drawn line in the place where it adjoins the first.

Step 4. Now you need to draw a line with a pencil in the same way as in the first case.

Where the element of the baguette will be attached, the markup should turn out.

Step 5. You need to lean one of the two skirting boards again against the markings, and transfer the point of contact of the two straight lines to it. This line on the plank will be the place for the cut. Exactly the same should be done with the second one.

Step 6. When the cut lines are outlined, they need to be cut. It is recommended to cut with a jigsaw, it is easy to operate and has high precision in work.

Step 7. Ready-made cut baguettes can be attached to the wall.

In order for the attached bar to look perfect, it is recommended to practice, first, on small pieces, and only after that do the final installation.

Now that the work on the installation of the ceiling plinths has been completed, you can proceed to further processing, namely painting them.

And the adjoining walls.

It is very convenient for them to mask the joints on the walls and on the ceiling, especially if they have a different structure and are not made too neatly.

Its presence makes the design of the room clearer and more complete.

Often people ask the question: how to correctly and accurately decorate a room with a ceiling plinth?

This is especially true for those cases when the owner of the house prefers repairs done with his own hands.

To do this correctly, it is important to strictly follow the existing recommendations and rules for finishing work. And then the result will please you.

There are no difficulties in attaching the fillet (this is the name of this element): in fact, all types of products are attached to reliable glue.

They lend themselves well to processing with a special fine-toothed hacksaw. You can also use a reliable metal blade. So how do you cut your skirting board correctly?

Factory ready corners

Note that every craftsman has the opportunity not to pore over precise cutting and fitting of corners.

In a hardware store, you can purchase a factory-made corner piece, into which the prepared edges of the skirting board can be easily inserted.

It is enough to measure the required length of the workpiece and cut it at right angles.

All defects and flaws will be hidden by this special element. But it is not always possible to use such a convenient method, since the standard sizes of such factory corners can differ markedly from the size of the plinth itself.

Such angles will stand out for their disproportion, and it will not look very neat. But if the design of the room and the size of the blanks allow you to use this method, then you should not neglect it.

For those who have to use one of the methods for trimming the ceiling plinth, the following tips will come in handy.

Fillet trimming

Pruning with a miter box

How to trim the corner of the skirting board evenly with it?

A miter box is a simple tool used by carpenters. With it, you can cut any workpiece at the desired angle.

It is usually a wooden, metal or plastic tray, on which special vertical slots are made for cutting at an angle of 45 ° and 90 °.

There are complicated designs, in which, in addition to the above-mentioned corners, there is also an opening for making a 60-degree cut.

A special miter box is produced for professional work. Its swivel mechanism allows you to fix the cutting blade in relation to the workpiece at any given angle.

Inner corner

The prepared one is applied to the ceiling, the desired length is set aside.

Then this very plank is inserted into the miter box exactly as it will be located on the ceiling. It must be pressed against the far wall of the device. In this position, the plinth is held by the left hand.

The blade of the hacksaw should be in such a position that its angle is 45 degrees, and the handle is as close as possible to the hand. Trying to avoid pressing the saw, carefully cut the workpiece.

The position of the hacksaw is similar to the previous procedure - its handle approaches the hand at an angle of 45 degrees. The skirting board is trimmed.

Then the finished, already cut strips are docked - the accuracy of the fit is checked. It is believed that for better orientation, when making an inner corner, it is better to start cutting from the front of the product. The cut points usually still have to be adjusted with a file.

Outside corner

It is most correct to observe the dimensions more precisely, first begin to mark the inner corner, and only after that move on to the outer one.

Otherwise, it may happen that there is not enough along the entire length of the bar.

The plank is applied to the ceiling, basting is made to size. Holding on with the left hand, the ceiling plinth is pressed against the nearest wall, the hacksaw handle is brought closer to the hand. The workpiece is cut off.

The strike plate is pressed against the nearest wall, while holding it with the right hand. The blade of the hacksaw should be at an angle of 45 °, the handle of the tool comes close to the hand of the master. A piece of the workpiece is cut off, the corner will neatly fit together.

Such processing with the edge of parts with wort is good in cases where the angle between the walls is even and straight (90 °).

If its performance leaves much to be desired, then it is worth using a different method.

How to cut a skirting board without a miter box?

Ceiling markings

The method with the marking on the ceiling allows you to cut the corner precisely and evenly. It has one drawback - it is rather inconvenient to hold the bar on weight during the procedure.

In all other respects, using this method, you will be able to mark the angle for cutting even more accurately than others.

When the skirting board is applied to the intended installation site, all dimensional deviations and inaccuracies are noticeable and immediately taken into account.

Corner trim

First you need to take a couple of blanks, then cut them at right angles. Pushing the edge of the plank against the perpendicular wall, apply one plank. We outline a line on the ceiling along the contour of the plinth. We remove the first bar, then, in the same way, resting the butt against the wall, we apply the counter bar. In the same way, mark the line along the contour.

The intersection of the two separate lines is the mark at which the workpiece is cut. Each bar is applied to the surface again, on both the point of the future cut is marked. Draw a line from the found point to the other edge of the plinth plank. We cut off the skirting boards according to the outlines made earlier, carefully join them, and place them in the place of their installation.

This method allows for more accurate processing of inner corners.

How to make a miter box template with your own hands

If you don't have a miter box, you don't have to buy a one-time tool. You can make a template with similar functions yourself.

To do this, the required cut angles are applied to the wood, paper or cardboard.

Then you need to draw a pair of parallel lines, find the center, and then use the protractor to measure the angles of any given value.

This method is especially convenient in that, using it, you can postpone an angle of any magnitude, even more than a straight line.

The technique of processing a skirting board using a homemade tool is practically no different from working with the original. The bar is pressed against one of the parallels, after which the hacksaw is set at the required angle and cut off.

Remember that before you cut the corners of the workpiece, be sure to check the angle between the walls! To do this, use a protractor and a corner.

How to cut a ceiling plinth correctly. Important little things

Measurements required for trimming the skirting board to the ceiling should be done in a special way..
To determine and mark the inner corner, the length must be measured from the corner itself. To mark the outer corner, it must be taken into account that the plinth will protrude deeper into the room by a distance that is equal to its width.

It is not advisable to fix the plinths of the skirting boards until their exact location is tried on and the counter plinth is cut off.

Only after perfect convergence in the corner of both strikers can you begin to mount and fasten them. If work is carried out with polyurethane or wooden skirting boards, defects and flaws can be corrected with a nail file or file. To fit a product from

Ceiling plinth is a decorative element that completes walls and ceilings. It is glued at the junction between the walls and the ceiling with special glue, with the greatest difficulty usually caused by the corners, both internal and external. How to properly cut a corner on a ceiling plinth so that there are no gaps or dents left? This question was probably asked by everyone who at least once tried to glue the ceiling plinth with their own hands.

Varieties of ceiling plinth

The ceiling plinth - otherwise it is called a fillet - can be made of different materials: wood, plastic, polyurethane, expanded polystyrene or polyvinyl chloride. In addition, they differ in width and shape of the relief - it can be simple or curly. The fillet of a simple shape is easy to join in the corners without special fittings; for a wide plinth with stucco molding, it is better not to spare money and buy special corner elements - internal and external corners of the same material. A plinth made of wood and polyurethane is cut with a metal file or a strong sharp knife. Polystyrene and PVC skirting boards can be easily cut with an ordinary office knife, thanks to the thin blade, it does not jam this fragile material.

How to cut a skirting board for a right angle

The most convenient way, practically eliminating the appearance of inconsistencies, is to use. This device is a U-shaped template with slots in the side walls made at different angles. The plinth is marked in place, noting its maximum length along the ceiling for external corners and along the walls for internal corners. The plinth is laid in a miter box, leveled and cut off at an angle of 45 degrees.

In the absence of a miter box, you can make a template from cardboard or thick paper by drawing lines on it at an angle of 45 degrees using a protractor. The fillet is applied parallel to the edge of the sheet to the marking lines and cut along a ruler with a sharp knife.

If on one piece of plinth it is necessary to cut off the corner from both sides at once, then it is recommended to start from a more difficult - external or uneven corner.

What to do if the inner corner is not right

The walls in our houses are not always perfect, and the angle can be more or less than 90 degrees. In this case, the standard template will not work, and it is better to use in-place markup. To do this, you need a hard pencil - it leaves fewer marks on the ceiling.

The plinth is applied alternately to each of the walls forming the corner, and a line is drawn along its edge on the ceiling. A mark is made at the intersection of the lines on the baseboards. Connect it to the lower edge of the plinth at an angle and cut off the corner with a knife using a ruler. Skirting boards cut in this way fit exactly in any corner.

The fillet with stucco molding is difficult to dock in the corners without the use of special corners, but if you could not find fittings for the embossed plinth, you should not despair - using the above methods, you can correctly cut a corner on a ceiling plinth of any shape. It is better to dock the plinth in a place with the most protruding elements of the stucco molding so that the overall pattern is not disturbed, and the joint is carefully glued. In this case, fillets will look neat and fit perfectly into the design.
