Spindles with separated motor and gearbox or belt drive. In these models, power and movement are generated by an external motor. Torque is transmitted to the spindle through a gearbox or belt. Spindle torque and speed depend on the characteristics of the connected motor. In this case, it is possible to provide very high power and torque. The maximum speed is also limited by the type of drive used. This also affects the size of the bearings, as they must withstand large radial loads.

Motor spindles are spindles with a built-in motor connected directly to the spindle shaft. They are designed for work at high speeds ( maximum speed depends on the type of bearings used) and moderately low material removal rates. As a rule, we install asynchronous electric motors with a continuously controlled current frequency by an inverter. Synchronous motors and rotors with constant magnetic field can be used to reduce rotor heating and increase static torque.
