How to adjust a door closer. Adjusting the door closer with your own hands. When do you need to adjust the door closer?

About what functions are found in door closers, why they are and whether they are always so necessary.

1.WHAT FUNCTIONS ARE THERE AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

Palladium door closers, like all gear driven overhead door closers, have basic and advanced features.

The basic functions are the overall closing speed (Close Speed) and the finishing speed (Latch Speed). Additional: wind brake (Back Check), closing delay (Delay Action) and locking in open position(Hold Open). All functions work independently of each other. And everything except the locking in the open position can be adjusted.

Let's explain how it all works. The closer body is filled with viscous machine oil. It also contains a spring, a piston and hydraulic system, consisting of channels through which oil moves back and forth. When opening the door, we act on the piston, and it compresses the spring. At this time, the oil flows from its starting point to another part of the housing.

When we release the handle, the spring expands and presses on the piston - the door begins to close. At the same time, the spring pushes the oil. It passes through the channels and flows through the valves into the channel from which it began its journey. Therefore, a door controlled by a closer does not just close, but does so smoothly.

The idea is to use adjusting screws to partially block the desired channel, controlling the speed of oil flow, and with it the smoothness of the door closing. The screws are adjusted with a screwdriver. The main thing is not to unscrew them counterclockwise two or more turns from the factory setting, otherwise the screw may fall out and the closer may leak. In general, to feel a change in the movement of the door, it is enough to tighten the screw 1/8-1/4 of a turn.

We explained how the functions work top closer. Now let's look at each of them separately. However, keep in mind that all values (degrees, seconds) are approximate and are given for installing the closer in a standard way (perpendicular lever).

2. ADJUSTABLE CLOSING SPEED (CLOSE SPEED)

[What is he doing]

Accelerates or slows down door closing within a range of up to 15°. That is, on the way from the state “the door is open” to the state “the door is about to close.”

[Description]

When adjusting speed, avoid extremes. If the door closer closes an open door quickly (less than 4 seconds), this will create inconvenience for children, the elderly and the disabled. If it is slow (more than 7 seconds), and the door is the entrance, you can let cold into the room in winter.

Please note: in closers with delayed closing (Delay Action), the Close Speed function is activated in the range from 69° to 15°. The speed of the blade movement in the segment from 180° to 70° depends on how you set the closing delay.

[How to adjust]

Turn the corresponding screw clockwise to make the door close more slowly. If you want to speed up the closing, turn the screw counterclockwise.

3. ADJUSTABLE LATCH SPEED

[What is he doing]

Accelerates or slows down the closing of the door in the range from 15° to 0° (at the very end of the door movement).

[Description]

This function is needed for automatic slamming. If you speed up the finishing, the door controlled by the closer will make a “jump at the finish line”. This is enough for it to fit into the seal and close with a mechanical latch (no adjustments are needed for magnetic locks). And vice versa. If there is no seal or mechanical latch, the slam can be reduced. In addition, there will be less noise and pinched fingers.

[How to adjust]

Turn the screw clockwise to reduce the adjustment. If you need to increase it, turn the screw counterclockwise. Important: first adjust the closing speed and only then adjust the finishing speed, and not vice versa!

4.ADJUSTABLE WIND BRAKE (BACK CHECK)

[What is he doing]

Limits sudden opening or slamming of the door in the range from 70° to 180° (depending on the adjustment).

[For what]

So that the wind and hooligans cannot knock the door against the wall, causing damage to the hinges and handles. This option is suitable for external doors and entrance groups with high traffic and risk of vandalism ( educational establishments, shopping centers, hospitals, etc.). We also recommend it if the room is located in a windy area.

[Description]

When the door moves suddenly, damage is caused not only to the fittings and the wall, but also to the door closer. In particular, the spring-loaded piston. It has a sealing cuff made of polyurethane. If you forcefully open or slam the door, the water hammer will be applied directly to the cuff. It is not ready for such loads, so it will most likely burst and leak. But even if the cuff is lucky, the closer linkage may suffer.

To prevent all this from happening, the closer is equipped with a hydraulic “wind brake”. It works like an airbag for the door.

The wind brake cannot be turned off, but it does not interfere with the use of the door. The fact is that the resistance of the closer is proportional to the speed of the web. That is, depreciation is activated only when the door moves quickly, with a jerk. And if it’s smooth, as usual, then you won’t feel any resistance. In addition, you can always tighten the adjustment screw by setting desired angle and damping stiffness.

[How to adjust]

Turn the wind brake screw clockwise to make the damping stiffer and activate earlier. If you want to loosen the shock absorption and allow the door to swing open more, turn the screw counterclockwise.

5.ADJUSTABLE CLOSING DELAY (DELAY ACTION)

[What is he doing]

Slows down the door closing speed several times over the range from 180° to 70°. After passing the 70° angle, the door closes at normal speed. The maximum delay time depends on the door closing angle and the settings and can be up to 35 seconds.

[For what]

You no longer need to ask others to hold the door for you if you need to bring in boxes or push a stroller or cart.

[Description]

Door closers with Delay Action function are suitable for utility rooms(warehouses, storerooms, utility rooms, etc.). A delay of up to 35 seconds is enough for workers to place the load, open the door, lift the load and carry it into the room. This function is also useful in medical institutions and nursing homes. It will be easier for hospital and hospital staff to bring in stretchers and roll carts. Elderly people and patients in wheelchairs will be able to use the door safely.

The “closing delay” cannot be disabled, but can be reduced to a few seconds. Keep this in mind if you are going to install a door closer with this function on high-traffic doors (for example, in large shopping centers). Also it's not the best option for an entrance door in a constantly air-conditioned room.

[How to adjust]

Turn the corresponding screw clockwise to increase the delay time. If a long delay is of no use to you (for example, in minus temperature on entrance doors), then turn the screw counterclockwise.

6. FIXING THE OPEN POSITION (FOP, HOLD OPEN)

[What is he doing]

Stops the door and prevents it from closing when it is open at an angle >70°-80°.

[For what]

To leave the door open for the passage of a group of people, carrying cargo, transporting a cart, stroller, etc. Or for ventilation or cleaning.

[Description]

FOP is a useful option for internal doors, replacing the floor clamp. When you open the door to an angle of 70-80° or wider, it locks and remains open. To make it shut, “help” it: pull the handle towards the opening. As soon as the angle between the canvas and the opening is reduced to<70°, дверь начнет автоматически закрываться.

On different closers, FOP is implemented differently. In some models - due to a folding lever. In others (including Palladium) - using an internal non-adjustable valve.

Please note that FOP cannot be disabled. Usually this is not critical, since most people open their doors only 50-60° (if you want, check how you do it). But if you are firmly convinced that FOP will interfere with you, then you can buy door closers without this function, but with the same load. For example, Palladium models 1025 D, 1045 D (with FOP) correspond to models 1025 ST, 1045 ST (without FOP).

[How to adjust]

No way. This feature cannot be adjusted or disabled.

7. IN CONCLUSION: SELECT THE CLOSER ACCORDING TO THE WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS OF THE DOOR

Functions are functions, but the main criteria when choosing a closer are the weight and dimensions of the door leaf. If you choose a low-power device, the door will not slam, and the closer will quickly break or leak. And vice versa: place a door closer with a load of 85-120 kg on a light door leaf - the door will be harder to open. In addition, the load on the hinges will increase many times over.

Closer - a design for automatically returning the door leaf to its original position. The “smart” device smoothly and silently closes the open sash. Most doors are equipped with a modern, convenient device. But, like any mechanism, the device requires careful care, adjustment and repair.

The following material will help you set up and perform a simple inspection of the device.

Device types

The mechanism controls the movement of the web (closer). It sets the movement mode: speeds up or slows down the closing process, gives softness and ease to the sliding of the sash. There are several operating principles.

In practice, two types are used:

  • The sliding rod operates the spring and piston system. One piston opens, the other brakes. The sliding type design is compact and reliable, suitable for lightweight doors.
  • With a lever-type gear transmission - the most common class of locking structures. A reliable combination of spring rod and gear allows you to install devices on massive doors.

The main requirement for choosing a door closing regulator is that it must correspond to its parameters; the more massive the door leaf, the more powerful the door closer is needed.

Based on the location of the control units on the door, the following groups are distinguished:

  • upper;
  • floor mounted systems;
  • hidden.

Upper. A widespread class of door closers. The combination of low price and reliable operation makes them popular among the population. They are installed at the top of the sash, which is very practical during installation. Manufacturers produce special oil-filled devices for external doors, adapted for use in hot or frosty climates.

Floor holders. They have proven themselves well in office premises, shopping centers, banks, where there are increased requirements for the appearance of doors. Flooring systems are built into the flooring and are practically invisible to visitors. Sliding type regulator designs are used and are designed for doors weighing up to 100 kg.

Internal devices. The devices are indispensable where careful cosmetic finishing and an impeccable front façade are required.

  • Small sliding type design, mounted inside the door frame or leaf.
  • The loop closer is a compact device. The range of application is limited: do not install on heavy doors; wears out quickly; special precision of installation on the doorway is required.

In what cases is adjustment required?

It is quite possible to adjust the closer yourself in cases where:

— a new closer was installed on the door leaf;

- for the purpose of preventive examination. Eliminating minor faults helps to increase the service life of the device;

- when changing climatic periods. Most of the devices are sold with an oily filling. When weather conditions change, the viscosity of the fluid in the mechanism changes, which requires additional calibration;

— upon detection of easily removable defects;

— in case of failures occurring during continuous operation. Urgent improvements are being made to the functioning of the automatic device;

- if a failure occurs or a breakdown occurs, one adjustment is not enough. It is necessary to take a number of measures to restore full functionality of the equipment.

What and how to regulate

To adjust the closer, there are two screws on the body. Some manufacturers place the bolts at the end of the body, others cover them with decorative covers. The adjusting screws are marked with numbers one and two. One bolt is designed to adjust the opening angle up to 180 degrees, and the other affects the speed of the rebate.

Setting the angle (opening angle 20-180*).

The first step is to adjust the door opening angle.

— set the adjusting bolt No. 1 to the required angle parameter of 90 or 180 degrees.

Setting the speed of the rebate:

— by turning bolt No. 2 clockwise, the closing speed increases,

- by turning counterclockwise, the covering speed will slow down,

- open the door to the established angular characteristics,

- release the sash,

— start adjusting the speed of the web return with adjusting screw No. 2, achieving smooth operation.

Installation of the aftershock (opening angle from 15-0 degrees):

Adjusting the acceleration is necessary for the tightness of the rebate:

— adjust with screw No. 2.

Important! Strictly monitor the number of turns of the tension screw, do not turn it more than one turn. Depressurization and oil leakage from the device are possible.

Open position. Not all clutches are equipped with an open door locking function. Manufacturers produce mechanical devices with or without a retention system that can be turned on and off. The locking load is carried by a special clamp. It is available as an option and is not included in the package.

Mode setting:

- open the door to 90 - 100 degrees,

— adjust the special pin. The holder will fix the open door.

How to remove the hold option:

— pull the door towards you, the latch disengages.

— The door leaf is not opened to its full extent, then the locking mechanism does not turn on.

— Closing is taking place as usual.

What not to do

Some regulatory features:

  1. Strictly monitor the rotation of the adjusting bolt. Do not turn more than two turns. There is a risk of breaking the tightness of the closer body with loss of lubricant.
  2. Avoid distortions during installation. Distortions affect the duration of the structure.
  3. Do not press hard on the door when closing, which also leads to rapid wear of the mechanism.
  4. You cannot place supports under the canvas in a slightly open state; using the locking option is sufficient.
  5. Do not hang massive things on the door leaf. Additional load leads to misalignment of the finishing unit.

Leveling the finishing mechanism assembly, carried out in a timely manner, will increase the operating period of the device for a long time.

The closer allows the door to close smoothly and without impact. This increases the service life of both the door leaf and the locks. Due to the fact that the closer is constantly subject to heavy loads, to ensure normal and reliable operation of the mechanism, it must be carefully and regularly maintained. It is enough to make the necessary adjustments and the device will work flawlessly for many years. There are several adjustment options; you can do all the settings yourself, you just need to know how to do it correctly.

When do you need to adjust the door closer?

The modern door closer appeared relatively recently. Its task is to ensure smooth closing of the door leaf. Such devices can be installed both on entrance and interior doors in houses and apartments, as well as in offices, shops, entrances, etc. Previously, a spring was used to close the door, but in this case the door slammed shut and an impact occurred, which led to a quick failure of both locks and door leaves.

If earlier springs were used to close the door, now modern devices called closers are used

The presence of a closer on the doors implies that when opening them, it will be necessary to apply a certain force, which is accumulated in the mechanism located inside such a device. When closing the door, the door closer smoothly returns the door to its original position.

Before we begin to describe the process of adjusting closers, you need to briefly familiarize yourself with their types. The following types of mechanisms can be found on sale:

  • spring. This is the simplest model, which works by compressing the spring when the door is opened, after which it unclenches and the leaf closes;

    The spring closer has a simple design, as it works by compressing the spring

  • cam with sliding (slide) rod. Its operation is based on the smooth sliding of a slide rod. This mechanism is usually used for door leaves of light weight, as well as where such indicators as compactness, smooth operation and small dimensions of the closer are important;

    The cam closer has a sliding (slide) rod

  • closer with gear drive. This is the most common option. Its operation is based on the movement of the door under the action of gears. The gear closer is more durable and can therefore be installed on heavy doors.

    The operation of the gear closer is ensured by the gears it contains.

In addition, you need to decide on the types of closers according to the installation method:

  • invoices. These are the simplest models that are mounted at the top of the door. They are usually mounted on the entrance doors to a house or apartment. It is easy to adjust overhead closers; for this purpose there are special screws on the mechanism body;

    The overhead door closer is attached to the top of the door

  • floor These models also have a simple design, but they are mounted on the floor. In houses and apartments, floor models are practically not used. They are mainly installed in offices, shops and other establishments with high traffic;

    The floor closer is fixed to the floor

  • hidden. Such structures are difficult to install and regulate. This is due to the fact that they are either inside the door or in the floor, making them difficult to reach.

    The hidden closer is hidden in the door leaf, frame or floor

In what cases should the door closer be adjusted?

The door closer is operated in intensive mode, therefore, to ensure its normal operation, it is recommended to carry out adjustment work at least twice a year. If the room is heavily occupied, adjustments may need to be made more often.

Since most door closers contain oil inside, adjustments must be made in warm and cold seasons. This is due to the fact that when the temperature changes, the thickness of the oil also changes and the smooth operation of the device will depend on this.

Most door closers contain oil inside; its thickness depends on temperature, so adjustments must be made in warm and cold seasons

It is necessary to constantly monitor the operation of the mechanism. If you are not satisfied with the speed at which the door closes or if it occurs jerkily, or if the door leaf does not attract well, to eliminate such shortcomings it is necessary to adjust the closer.

Is adjustment necessary after installing the device?

Depending on the design of the closer, the location of the adjusting screws will differ. Despite this, the adjustment is carried out according to the same pattern - when the screws are rotated clockwise, the speed and force of the mechanism increase and vice versa.

Since the weight of the door leaf on which the closer is mounted may vary, adjustments must be made immediately after installation. The screws must be turned very smoothly. It is recommended to make no more than ¼ turn, after which you need to check the operation of the closer. If you unscrew the screw more than 2 turns, it may fall out of the socket, and this will lead to oil leakage.

Since the weight of the door may vary, the closer must be adjusted immediately after installation.

Immediately after installing the closer, its performance is checked and if something is not satisfactory, adjustments are made. The speed at which the door leaf will close is changed by rotating the corresponding screw. If you need to adjust the exhaust, use another screw.

Adjusting the door closer

Now that you know the types of closers and have decided which one is installed on a particular door, you can begin adjusting it.

Although there are several types of closers, the principle of adjustment will be almost the same. Regardless of whether an overhead, floor-mounted or hidden mechanism is installed, you must first study the instructions and determine how many adjustments this model has. The simplest mechanisms have only two adjusting screws located on the body of the device: one is responsible for the speed of closing the door, and the second for its closing. After this, the necessary function of such a device is adjusted. The process of adjusting hidden structures will be more difficult, but here you can do it yourself. It is enough to figure out where the adjusting screws are and use them to adjust the necessary parameters of the closer.

To complete the work you will need the following tools:

Before proceeding directly with the adjustment, you need to decide what the following terms mean:

Adjusting the door speed

The first stage of adjusting the door closer is setting the closing speed. On entrance doors, it is recommended to set a high door closing speed so as not to lose heat; for interior doors, this indicator depends on the preferences of the owners.

A door closer, depending on its model, can have from 2 to 5 adjusting screws; their purpose should be found in the instructions for the purchased device..

To adjust the door speed:

Adjustment of aftershock

Adjustment of the closing noise can only be carried out after the door closing speed has been adjusted. To adjust this parameter, you need to use the second screw, which is found on all door closer models:

Open position adjustment

If you often need to fix the door in the open position, you need to buy models with an adjustment called hold open. This function is used when it is necessary to bring in or remove large objects from the room:

How to loosen a door closer

If the doors are difficult to open, you need to loosen the door closer. To do this, you need to loosen the adjusting screws a little and ensure that a small force is required to open the door leaf.

To loosen the closer, you need to slightly unscrew the adjusting screws.

Closing delay setting

Sometimes situations arise when it is necessary for the doors to close not immediately, but with some delay. This function is also not available on all models. To understand whether your closer has it, you need to look at the number of adjusting screws. There should be more than two, and the purpose of each of them can be found out by studying the instructions. This function allows you to configure the door closer so that several people can pass through at the same time while the door is open. It is especially relevant in hospitals, shops, and educational institutions.

Setting the door closing delay:

Video: adjusting the closer

When adjusting the door closer yourself, you must adhere to the basic rule: you cannot unscrew the adjusting screws more than 2 turns. Almost all mechanisms run on oil, and if you unscrew the screws more, it will begin to leak out. Oil is poured into the device under pressure, so you won’t be able to fill the closer yourself and will have to buy a new mechanism.

To ensure maximum service life of the closer, certain requirements must be met:

If you really need to fix the door, but the closer does not know how to do this, some craftsmen disconnect the lever rods and thus turn off the closer completely. Implementing this method of fixation requires some time and effort. To do this, use a screwdriver or wrench to unscrew and pull out the screw connecting the two lever rods. If the need to fix the door leaf arises frequently, it is better to purchase a door closer with the appropriate function.

The door closer is a fairly simple mechanism, and if it is operated correctly and adjustments are made on time, it will work for a long time and reliably.

Video: features of operating and adjusting the closer in winter

A door closer requires constant monitoring of its operation, and all because the device is operated almost non-stop, especially if the door closer is installed on the door of a store or public institution. Debugging the device is necessary for the following reasons:

  • increased load on the mechanism;
  • opening and closing the door does not always occur correctly, and therefore the entire device is unbalanced.

To correct the shortcomings and make the door closer work almost ideally, you do not need to have special knowledge, it is enough to have the desire and follow simple instructions.

What in the door closer can you adjust with your own hands?

The closer is designed not only to close the door independently, but is also designed to make this process as convenient as possible. To do this, it is necessary to adjust the operation of the product immediately after its installation. Pay attention to the speed of closing the doors; experts call it a slam. Experienced installers tell us how to properly adjust the exhaust:

  1. For entrance doors, the closing speed of the doors should be greater, so cold air will not have time to penetrate the room in the winter. Slow slamming, in turn, is great for interior doors.
  2. The intermediate stroke is also subject to adjustment. Correctly set time allows several visitors to pass through at once, and if in summer you want to let in more fresh air, by tightening just one screw you can achieve an open position of the door.
  3. A well-functioning clapper on the closer is a guarantee that the product will last longer, this is the only way the door will not hit the door frame with all its force, which means the device will not quickly become loose and deteriorate. Moreover, the manufacturer has gone even further - the expensive door closer model combines several closing modes, from which you just have to choose the most suitable one.

Theoretical basis for adjusting the door closer

Knowing the theory is already half the battle, so familiarize yourself with the adjustment technology in theory:

  1. How to adjust the speed of door slamming? It’s very simple - we check the speed as soon as the device takes its place. If you want a slow closing, turn the screw clockwise, you don’t need to turn it much, half a turn is enough. Check the door slamming speed again, turn the screw until you achieve the desired result. By the way, for those who want to resolve the issue quickly, the manufacturer specifically states in the instructions for debugging the device that you can turn the screw only 2 turns, no more, otherwise the part will simply break, and you can keep your complaints to yourself.
  2. The shutter is adjusted in the last 15 cm until the door is completely closed. When accelerating the closing speed, do not expect the device to close slowly. Your goal is to find a middle ground between one indicator and another.
  3. The intermediate passage is adjusted relative to the main movement of the door, for example, the third bolt allows you to reduce the slamming speed halfway. But the direct purpose of this bolt is to help out if you need to fix the mechanism in a certain position. Therefore, use a screwdriver and, after installing the door as required, tighten the screw tightly. The minimum angle at which the door can be fixed using a closer is 90 degrees. What does this look like in practice? The door is held at a certain closing angle for half a minute, and then closes on its own.

What can cause the product to malfunction

Now you know what the closer is responsible for and how it is adjusted in theory. Some people try so hard to adjust the closer that they simply break it, so before you start adjusting it yourself, it doesn’t hurt to know the prohibitions:

  1. It is not allowed to completely unscrew the screws to adjust the closer.
  2. As a result of overtightening the screws, oil leaks out of the device, and it is no longer possible to fill it back with your own hands.

Instructions for adjusting the door closer yourself

When starting to adjust the door closer with your own hands, use the following instructions, created according to the recommendations of professional installers of door devices:

  1. If you decide to install the door closer yourself, carefully study the installation instructions; they probably contain diagrams and drawings that will shorten the installation process significantly.
  2. Follow the installation template - the geometry of the mechanism is created for a reason.
  3. After installing the closer, adjust the length of the device lever so that in the closed position of the door device, the angle between the closer lever and the door, when viewed from the hinge side, is 90 degrees. After this, check the connections and correct initial installation.
  4. Open the door all the way, then release it and watch it close. The rotation range of screw No. 1 allows you to adjust the door closing from 15 to 180 degrees. Screw No. 2 is responsible for the closing. Tighten the screws and the closing speed will decrease, unscrew and the performance will increase.

Do I need to take care of my door closer?

There are people who are meticulous about cleaning their premises, so they regularly scrub their doors until they shine, lubricate the hinges every now and then and, of course, try to put their hands on the door closer. The latter, by the way, can be floor-mounted or mounted at the top of the door device.

But, according to experts, it’s still not worth experimenting with the door closer - just don’t touch it, you don’t need to put anything under the door either, much less pull it as hard as you can. The fact is that such manipulations can cause premature failure, after which the entire product will have to be replaced; it is impossible to fix the mechanism in detail.

If you still have questions about adjusting the closer yourself, watch the video:

A door closer is a mechanism that is designed to reliably close entrance doors. It presses the blade against the seals along the contour or creates the necessary force sufficient to trigger the lock latch. The door can close abruptly and with a sound, or smoothly and without making sounds, and can also pause.

Adjusting the door closer is a mandatory measure to extend the service life and maintain the performance characteristics of the mechanism.

It is subject to constant loads; frequent closing and opening of the door leads to imbalance of the elements of the device, and therefore requires periodic maintenance and repair, both for preventive purposes and if necessary.

To understand the configuration issue, you first need to familiarize yourself with its classification.

They come in 2 types:

  • Cam slide. It is used for smooth closing of blocks in lightweight structures.
  • Toothed lever. Used for heavy fabric with codes, considered the most common.

According to the installation method, closers are divided into the following types:

  1. Top or overhead. Installation is carried out from above the structure.
  2. Floor-standing. Often attached to the bottom of blocks.
  3. Hidden or framed. They are located inside the frame or in the floor.

When adjustment is needed

Experts recommend adjusting the mechanism immediately after installing the door closer, and not only during operation of the doors. Inspection and correction of minor problems is carried out at least 2 times a year, with frequent fluctuations in temperature indoors and outdoors - more often. This is due to the fact that the lubricating fluid depends on the temperature parameters of the environment and affects the parts of the closer.

Carrying out seasonal adjustments is a regular part of maintenance.

With large temperature fluctuations, the front door mechanism quickly wears out and becomes faulty. Therefore, it is better, when the first signs of damage to the closer occur, to pull it to the desired position, check the tightness to detect oil leaks and eliminate the malfunction.

In case of complex breakdowns, adjusting the door closer on your own is ineffective. Experts recommend carrying out repair work or replacing it.

If problems arise with the device settings, the parameters are adjusted. This procedure is performed if the mechanism turns out to be difficult to open, as well as with a door that closes quickly and sharply or takes a long time to pull.

How to do it right

Adjusting the door closer, the instructions for which provide requirements for installation and adjustment of the mechanism, consists of the following steps:

  • Adjustment of block closing speed.
  • Setting the parameters for pressing the canvas to the box (latching).
  • Adjusting the intermediate stroke.

The procedure requires a minimum of tools - a screwdriver.

How to do it yourself

In order to understand how to adjust the door closer, you need to understand the design features of the device.

The mechanism consists of the following components and parts:

  1. spring;
  2. linkage;
  3. axial gear clutch;
  4. gear or cam mechanism;
  5. needle bearing;
  6. wind brake adjustment valve or damper;
  7. protective casing;
  8. lever arm;
  9. sealing rubber bands;
  10. adjusting screws;
  11. fasteners.

When working, you must adhere to the strict rules of the instructions for installing and adjusting the device, which boils down to spring tension.

On the body of the closer, when adjusting, there are 2 adjusting screws, which are responsible for the speed of movement of the blade and the speed of closing. The first screw regulates the main stroke of the door from full opening 180° to 15°, and the second - its final closing. Some models also have a third screw to change the overall force.

The procedure is performed as follows:

  • Remove the cover from the mechanism.
  • Find the control valve. Check the diagram in the door mechanism instructions.
  • Turn screw No. 1 counterclockwise to adjust the doors to close smoothly, clockwise to adjust them quickly. It should be taken into account that more than 2 revolutions from the zero position cannot be made.
  • To delay the open door leaf for a certain amount of time, you need to tighten a special lock. Such actions are performed when the block is opened by 95-100°.
  • If the canvas needs to be kept open for a long time, use the “Hold-open” function. To do this, open the door 90-95° and tighten the lever lock.
  • Check that the mechanism is installed correctly.

Options

When adjusting the door closer with your own hands, significant attention is paid to such parameters as:

  1. closing force;
  2. closing speed;
  3. opening speed;
  4. maximum opening angle.

Closing speed is how quickly or slowly the doors close. The closing force allows you to adjust the device so that in the last 7-15° the speed increases and the lock latches.

To protect the door block from damage during sudden openings, the opening speed is adjusted. For this purpose, closers with a braking function, such as a “wind brake,” are installed on the entrance doors of buildings.

Adjustment of aftershock

Setting up the door closer to install the door closer ensures that the door leaf adheres to the frame and allows you to leave a small gap before slamming, i.e. does not completely close the door structure. By adjustment, you can adjust the slow closing of the block, reducing the force of the clap.

Using screw No. 2, you can adjust the speed at which the structure will slam shut. When 10-15° remain before the door leaf closes, the deceleration will work.

Features of some models

The most common door closers among users are “Dorma” TS-68, “Diplomat”, “GEZE” TS 4000. Each model has its own characteristics of regulating such devices.

"Dorma" TS-68 is a classic top-mounted model. Its peculiarity is that the mechanism is equipped with a special lever to change the door locking force.

The Diplomat model is characterized by simple installation and maintenance of the mechanism. Adjusting the door closer includes the stages of spring tension and opening and closing adjustments. Some modifications of the “Diplomat” do not have a clap setting. The devices operate on the principle of hydromechanics.

"GEZE" TS 4000 is a popular top door mechanism model among users. The closer can adjust the opening damping, adjust the thermostable closing speed at the front and the final closing using a lever rod.
