What can be made from SINGER sewing machine legs. What can be done from an old sewing machine How to make a beautiful out of an old sewing machine

We had legs from a SINGER sewing machine, while we adapted them as a base for a circular hand saw, but in the future we want to make a decorative table, and, as an option, use glass as a table top. We have glass - it is stalinite from some kind of truck (booth window).

For anyone interested, you can read about a circular saw. And we will go further and consider what options for tables you can make with your own hands and how they fit into the interior

This is what the sewing machine itself looks like. We had just such, only where did the machine itself go, I don’t remember - maybe it’s lying somewhere

Here is a table with a glass top. The legs are painted white to match the interior color.

In the photo below, the legs are not from a SINGER machine, but the principle is the same. They are painted in bronze. Also with glass top

Option with a wooden countertop in a modern interior

We have roughly the same glass with rounded corners.

And here both the table and the chair are taken from the legs from Singer. Another photo shows a table for gold.

Elongated version of the table with a solid wood top

Unusual use in the bathroom

Wooden countertop in a "wooden" interior

And this is some kind of design solution with a thick tabletop with two pairs of legs from a typewriter

A table for a garden or a gazebo. Agree, it's always nice to sit on wooden furniture, at a table made with your own hands, and even in the fresh air, enjoying a conversation and a cup of green tea, or something stronger.

And here is a combination of a log house from a rounded log and a mini table with one leg)

And in conclusion - a computer tol. If you also put a generator on your paw, then you can generate electricity and train muscles - this is for those who sit at the computer for a long time and move a little)))

This is just a small part of what you can

The metal patterned legs of the machine can be processed ideally with a sandblaster, sandpaper or special solutions (if there is rust), then painted in the desired color or varnished

Many people remember the reliable Singer sewing machine. At one time, the German miracle of technology was the pride of any home craftswoman.

Having ceased to perform the basic functions, the structure will only interfere and take up space. Of course, you can immediately throw it out, or you can show a little ingenuity and make an elegant coffee table from a Singer sewing machine with your own hands.

Required tools

  1. Metal brush. Choosing the option with stiff, large bristles. The brush is useful for the primary cleaning of the surface from grease and machine oil accumulated on it.
  2. Cleaning agent. It will be needed for processing and dissolving contaminants. Any solvent can be used. It is best to use a spray bottle as it distributes the liquid evenly over a large area.
  3. Grinder without attachment. The tool is powerful enough to remove an old coat of paint.
  4. Matt paint for a cast iron bed from a sewing machine. It is most convenient to use an aerosol can, but regular paint cans will work as well.
  5. Decorative impregnation for wood. It is applied to the countertop for better preservation and additional protection.
  6. Screwdriver. Designed for quick tightening of self-tapping screws. You can do with a screwdriver, but an electric tool will significantly speed up the process.
  7. Self-tapping screws 4.2 x 19 mm. You can choose the gilded version and use it as a decoration.
  8. Wide brush. A soft bristled paintbrush will help to spread the impregnation evenly over the worktop surface.

Necessary materials

  1. To make a coffee table from a Zinger machine, you only need a cast iron bed and a table cover.
  2. The size of the cover is chosen arbitrarily, in our instructions it will be 1000 by 600 millimeters and 22 millimeters thick.

Assembly

  1. Separate the top panel from the sewing machine table legs. It is usually secured with four screws; to detach, simply unscrew them.
  2. After that, we begin primary processing. Apply cleaning agent to the beds. Thoroughly saturate the folds and corners, they most often accumulate dust and machine oil. The main task of this procedure is to degrease the surface and get rid of stubborn dirt. Brush thoroughly with metal bristles and apply another coat of solvent if necessary.
  3. Having finished with the preliminary cleaning, we will deal with the old paint. It is necessary to get rid of it with a grinder with a special nozzle. Let's go through all the curls and corners of the legs, ideally, the old paint should not remain at all.
  4. Degrease the cleaned metal and apply a new coat of paint. Spread the layer evenly over the entire surface, it is most convenient to use an aerosol can for this. In some cases, it may be necessary to reapply, make sure that the paint lies well and move on to the countertop.
  5. After manufacturing, we cover the countertop with decorative impregnation. Usually a wide brush is used for this. The impregnation protects the wood from rotting and external damage. Saturate the surface thoroughly by applying two to four coats.
  6. After drying the wood, we start to fix it on the beds.

We put the lid on the floor and put the cast iron legs on top. We find the mounting holes, they are located in the corners of the beds. Using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, we connect the cover to the beds. This completes the main build process.

Labor and cost

The most time consuming processing of beds. It may take a lot of painstaking work on your part for several hours. Everything will depend on their original condition.

It took me about two hours to clean the surface from oil, old paint, degrease again and apply a new layer. If the cast iron is heavily rusted, it may take much longer.

Assembling the tabletop and fixing it will take about an hour. You will have to wait the longest for the decorative impregnation to dry, this usually takes up to twelve hours.

A bottle of solvent will cost about 100 rubles for 500 ml. Paint - 600 rubles and more, depending on the manufacturer. Table top from 300 rubles. The total cost will not exceed 1,500 rubles.

Conclusion

This is how, thanks to simple instructions, you can assemble an elegant coffee table from an old Singer machine with your own hands. It will not cost you much, but it will please the eye and faithfully perform its work for many years.

Always pay attention to old, seemingly unnecessary things. With the right approach and the right skill, they can be turned into something amazing.

Hello dear readers! Probably everyone remembers the old foot sewing machines of the world famous brand "Singer", at that time such a machine was especially popular with seamstresses, thanks to the bed with a footrest, which allowed significant savings on electricity, and was also famous for its ability to flawlessly sew even the thickest materials. But time does not stand still, and now, years later, the old foot typewriter was replaced with a modern electric one. Someone simply disposed of the foot machines, others disassembled and put them in the attic, but the third, the most resourceful ones, used it in everyday life. Well, what can be done from an old sewing machine will be discussed in this review.

1. Tables for cooking in the kitchen and dining tables from a Singer sewing machine.

The perfect solution for your home is a kitchen dining table with a chic wrought-iron base. The table top can be made of solid wood, as well as transparent or frosted glass. As for the base itself, you can simultaneously use two beds from identical sewing machines or separate one forged base, push the resulting parts closer to the edges of the table top, and between them fix a crossbar made of strong reinforcement, which will also serve as a footboard.

2. Dressing tables from an old sewing machine.

For the dressing table, you can leave the entire base entirely, i.e. not only a metal part, but also a wooden worktop with side drawers and a hinged lid. To make the table look more neat, all parts of the bed must be sanded and re-painted in a suitable color. And in the section with a hinged lid (where a sewing machine used to be hidden), place cloth-covered plywood boxes, and fix a mirror on the lid itself from the inside.

3. Desktop.

In order not to unnecessarily spend money on the purchase of a new desktop, you just need to make a wooden tabletop and fix it on the base from the old typewriter. The result is a chic workplace with an excellent forged base, at such a table you want to work in twins.

4. Table in the gazebo.

An excellent idea for a garden recreation area, such a table will significantly transform the entire gazebo as a whole, and if you also make a similar bench for it, as well as a barbecue, it will generally be difficult to tear your eyes off. The table looks expensive and solid at the same time.

5. Small table.

Some houses have tables for small things (keys, cell phones, flower pots, photo frames) in the corridor or hallway, so why not replace the boring monotonous table with a more elegant one with an interesting metal base. Moreover, its implementation does not require special costs, provided that an old foot-operated machine is available. It is necessary to decide on the countertop (wood or glass), clean, paint the base, and, well, connect the base to the countertop.

6. Brazier from the base of the foot machine.

A great idea for those who like to fry a kebab, and most importantly - the chic base is already ready, all that remains is to order from the carpenter a cut of iron for the upper frying box, then weld all the parts with a welding machine, sand and paint, wait for the paint to dry out and go to fry the kebab.

7. Bench from the legs from the sewing machine.

An excellent solution is to create a base for a garden bench or chair from old sewing legs. Planks can be ordered from the carpenter, then all parts can be connected, and also painted or varnished.

8. A flower bed from an old sewing machine.

Such a flower bed is easy to care for, you do not need to bend over to thin out plants or remove all weeds, and it is convenient to water.

9. Sink from a sewing machine bed.

Another fresh solution is the washbasin on the bed from the sewing machine. A bowl-shaped sink mounted on a wooden countertop looks especially beautiful. The result is a set with modern overtones and a vintage bias, such contrasting things are now very popular.

10. Locker for jewelry.

A ready-made cabinet with various compartments and mirrors on the doors is fixed on the base.

11. Rack for bedspreads.

At night, the bedspreads removed from the bed can be carefully hung on a special rack, especially such a thing will be relevant in a children's room with several beds, so the kids will be accustomed to order. A box with bolted beams is installed on the base from the machine, on which linen or bedspreads are subsequently hung.

How to make a table from a base from a foot machine.

First you need to prepare the tabletop, you can order it from the carpenter or, if you know how to prepare it yourself. By the way, the tabletop can also be ordered from the firms engaged in the manufacture of furniture, name the dimensions, choose a shade, and they will make an excellent tabletop for you.

Next, if necessary, sand the legs and paint them in the desired color, after the paint has dried, you can start assembling all the parts, namely the base and countertops. We fasten the metal legs to the wooden tabletop with screws. That's it, a great table is ready!

This "love story" began a long time ago, a couple of years ago. Once I had a job, thanks to which I visited almost all restaurants in the center of Kiev. In one very cozy establishment, I noticed that all the tables were made from old Singer sewing machines. I remember this idea very much. And she lay in my head until the next meeting with a similar table, which took place in the city of Drohobych (Lviv region). Walking around the city, I went to a handicraft store. It was very nice there. A lot of different very stylish and unusual things and again ... a table made of a sewing machine ... Then this idea had already firmly stuck in my head, and besides, I infected my husband Kostya with it.

The search for a typewriter began, which, fortunately, did not last long. My great-aunt suggested that we take her old sewing machine, which has been in her dacha for a long time. A lot of time passed while we transported this “treasure” from Vinnitsa to Kiev, then another six months, until we were ripe for the implementation of this idea. And we made the table itself in just 5 days and just fell in love with it!

How did we do it?

Step 1

They disassembled the table, threw out a completely outdated tabletop and other parts from the typewriter. True, we left the box (we put it in). All the details were washed in the shower stall, cleaned of a century-old plaque with a metal brush.

Step 2

Legs painting. Kostya took all the metal parts to the garage and painted them, hanging them on a wire.

Painted with wear-resistant paint 4 in 1. It turned out to be a very beautiful matte finish.

Step 3

We bought a pine furniture board. Dimensions: 100 x 60 x 1.8 cm.

For painting we chose transparent paint “Pinotex Interior” and tinted it in purple-burgundy color. This color is just right for the color palette that we defined for the room. In addition, it is dark enough so as not to distract or irritate your eyesight while working.

We decided to cover the tree with a roller, since it applies paint more evenly than a brush and does not leave streaks and furrows behind.

The tabletop was painted three times. It was kept between layers for 2-3 hours, although this paint dries almost instantly. The peculiarity of "Pinotex Interior" is that it does not leave a greasy layer, but is completely absorbed into the wood, since it is water-based. That is, the effect is obtained, as from a stain, but this paint, in addition to tinting, also protects the wood.

Here's a velvety effect after a three-layer coating. But we decided to cover the tabletop with acrylic varnish for reliability, since this sewing machine table will be a full-fledged computer table, at which we will sometimes drink tea or coffee :) We were not sure that Pinotex would treat spilled coffee favorably. And the varnish will definitely withstand.

Step 4

Varnishing. Why did we choose acrylic varnish? Firstly, because there is a child in the house, and even if you cover the countertop with oil varnish in the garage, you will have to wait a while until the unpleasant toxic odor disappears. Acrylic varnish is completely non-toxic. Secondly, it dries quickly and on the same day you can start fixing the countertop. Thirdly, this varnish can be applied in a very thin, inconspicuous layer, which was good for us, because we still wanted to preserve the velvety texture.

During painting, the varnish has a white tint, but then this effect disappears and the layer becomes completely transparent.

Step 5

Table layout for mountings. We did it with masking tape so as not to smudge the paint layer with a pencil (or something worse :)). We measured everything, determined the location of the legs.

We installed the tabletop in the right place.

Ksenya actively helped :)

In the holes on the legs, through which the old tabletop was attached, we put marks. They will be clearly visible on the scotch tape. We drill holes for furniture nuts according to the marks.

After the holes are ready, you need to hammer furniture nuts into them.

You can also play with the nuts: scatter them all over the apartment, and then collect them with the whole family. This lesson is suitable to distract a little from the hard work of creating a table from a sewing machine :)

We attach the tabletop to the legs and the table is ready! This is how Kostino's workplace looks now. True, now we have to fight for the opportunity to sit at the computer table, because we have only one graphic tablet, and we really want to draw on it :)))

The ficus was still harassed by this love story and, in my opinion, it was even very successful.

Now a modest Soviet chair awaits alterations. He is to become a laconic addition to the male workplace. But that is another story…

I remember that as a child, my grandmother had a special table in the house - a Singer sewing machine. It was wooden on top, and a sewing machine was folded upside down under the tabletop, plus two fishnet legs made of cast iron, a wheel on the side and a wide pedal at the bottom ... For the first time I learned to sew on such a machine. It was then that electrical units appeared - more compact and modern, and such tables, alas, became of no use to anyone.

However, do not rush to throw such a rarity in the trash. A little time and imagination - and an old table from under a sewing machine can be transformed into rather unusual interior items. Here are some interesting ideas for inspiration.

1. The simplest thing that can come out of the cast iron base of an old sewing machine is a great dining table. The heavy, ornate frame will withstand even a fairly wide tabletop. It's great to get the whole family together at one table and remember what happened before ...

2. A modern table for a computer or laptop is also quite a worthy metamorphosis for such a table. The so-called eclecticism. If you use a glass tabletop, then such a table will even fit into a high-tech interior.

3. Just a few touches - and you've got a pretty solid writing desk for creative people.

4. Perhaps the most elegant idea is the dressing table. A mirror can be placed on the hinged lid, and drawers to store cosmetics and all sorts of little things.

5. Washbasin from an old sewing machine in the bathroom or in the country? Incredible idea! But it is very original.

6. Replacing the countertop instantly reshapes the old relic. This coffee table in the living room is simply unrecognizable!

7. See how these openwork legs from a Singer machine look good in vintage or shabby chic interiors. I would love to turn Grandma's old table into such a console for a vase of flowers. You just need to replace the table top and repaint the cast iron legs.
