A bench is an indispensable element of any suburban area. Today, such structures perform many important functions: from their direct purpose to giving the garden a unique design.

Many owners of suburban areas prefer to build benches on their own, since this simple task will not take much time and money.

There are several basic materials that are used as the basis for building benches.

Wood

The most popular option is wood. It is believed that it is from this material that the most aesthetic designs are obtained.

Due to the versatile aesthetic characteristics of the material, wooden benches fit perfectly into the landscape of any garden. It is important to keep in mind that the benches are always outdoors. Therefore, it is necessary to select those wood species that are characterized by maximum resistance to weathering.

These include: hazel, oak, pine, cherry, and larch. For additional protection, the material is coated with a special varnish.

Metal

Metal is popular for the production of benches for many reasons: durability, practicality, resistance to precipitation, ease of use. As the best option for a garden, openwork structures with interesting patterns are most often made. Alternatively, you can focus on minimalism.

Stone

The stone benches are impressive and monumental. Basic materials: granite, marble, quartzite. In some cases, rough stone is used to create a unique design, in others a stone with a smooth surface is used.

Plastic

Plastic is the most affordable, convenient option. It is considered more seasonal and budgetary than aesthetic and decorative. However, with the correct design of a plastic bench, it can become a garden decoration. Variegated pillows, lanterns, flowers and much more are often used for decoration.

Varieties of benches

Garden benches are traditionally divided into several categories. Location is the criterion for division.

They are usually installed close to the threshold, which determines the choice of material. Design specialists insist that the appearance of the front bench should correspond to the exterior of the country house. Thus, if the structure is made of stone, then the bench, accordingly, must also be made of stone.

Water bench

The main purpose is the possibility of a comfortable pastime near the reservoir. For the construction of structures, it is recommended to choose waterproof materials - artificial or natural stone.

It can be located virtually anywhere in the suburban area. Plastic is usually used as a base, as it is lightweight and easy to clean.

An irreplaceable option for hardworking summer residents. Garden benches are installed so that the owners of the site can rest comfortably while working in the garden. To ensure aesthetic pleasure accompanying rest, structures are placed next to flower beds.

This variety can also be called the "bench of loneliness." The fact is that it is customary to place them in the most remote places of the garden so that a person has the opportunity to hide from prying eyes. A popular material for manufacturing is wood.

Seasonal bench

It is foldable and lightweight. Thus, the task of transferring the bench from one place to another is greatly facilitated: in the summer - in the shade, in autumn or spring - in sunny places. The optimal material is plastic.

DIY wood bench

There are many different types of wooden benches. We'll look at a few of them.

Standard wooden bench

Materials:

  • croaker - a board with bark on one side - 2 trims one and a half meters long;
  • bars - 2 pieces;
  • trimming bars - 2 pieces 15x20 centimeters.

Step 1. We dig two holes, align them in depth.

Step 2. Align the corners between the uprights and the bars in such a way that it would be comfortable to sit on the bench later.

Step 3. We nail the bars with nails 200 millimeters.

Step 4. We bury the blanks.

Step 5. We tamp.

Step 6. We nail the back to the racks.

Step 7. We nail the back to the bars.

Step 8. We process the wood with special enamel or varnish.

The described option is an ordinary country bench, which rather acts as a functional option than a decorative element.

List of materials:

  • suitable boards - cedar is best;
  • simple pencil;
  • roulette;
  • saw;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • nails;
  • hammer;
  • polyurethane glue;
  • plant pots;
  • priming;
  • plants.

Bench manufacturing technology

Step 1. We arm ourselves with a calculator and a tape measure, calculate the size of the bench.

Step 2. Grind the boards in such a way that no chipping, burrs and other defects remain on them.

Step 3. Cut out 46 segments of the same length (about 50 centimeters each).

Step 4. Set aside 6 segments for further construction of the turret.

Step 5. We collect support boxes from 40 segments.

To do this, put two segments parallel to each other, and then put two more segments on top perpendicular to them. Thus, we lay out the remaining planks to make a turret. We fix the corners with glue and self-tapping screws for greater strength. Each drawer uses 20 slats.

Step 6. Take long boards and start making a frame for the future structure. To do this, we lay the boards on their side and fix them in the middle with the help of a transverse bar.

Step 7. We attach the frame to the support boxes using self-tapping screws and glue.

Step 8. We make a "turret" from the remaining 6 segments. To do this, lay out the planks on one of the support boxes in the same way as we did earlier.

The last row must be made solid using short segments that are inserted between the walls of the boxes.

Step 10. If desired, we make "window sills" on the top row, adding there four sanded planks with oblique corners.

Step 12. We take long boards and cover the future sitting place with them.

Step 13. Place the pots with plants in the turrets.

It is a very beautiful and simple design that does not take up much space, but contributes to pleasant leisure.

We will consider the production technology of the simplest country bench without a back. It only takes a few hours to assemble the bench. The basis of this design is a profile pipe.

Set of tools:

  • welding machine;
  • profile pipe;
  • steel corner;
  • Bulgarian.

Step 1. Determine the location of the future bench, carry out the appropriate calculations. The standard length of such a bench is 120 centimeters.

Step 2. With the help of a grinder, we cut off three metal blanks 120 centimeters long. They will act as a seat.

Step 3. Lay the workpieces evenly on a flat surface. You can use a stove.

Step 4. Take a steel corner, cut off two crossbars.

Step 5. We apply the crossbars perpendicular to the workpieces, stepping back about ten centimeters from the edges, and weld them.

Step 6. We weld two bench legs to the corners, the length of which is adjusted according to the wishes of the site owners.

Step 7. We weld the transverse bar to the legs, stepping back from the bottom of the seat about 20-25 centimeters.

Step 8. We make two crossbars from the scraps of the corners.

Step 9. Weld these crossbars to the base of the bench legs.

Step 10. Apply a protective coating to the metal.

Step 11. Install the bench.

If desired, you can modify the structure by welding the railings and backrest to it. The bright paint will give the bench an interesting look.

Construction from scrap materials

First of all, it is necessary to decide what materials will be used as the frame of the structure. It can be:

  • stones;
  • wooden pallets;
  • bricks;
  • bottles.

Also, in the process of work, you will need the following materials: clay, straw, water, sand, paint, brushes.

We prepare a frame from pallets

  1. We fill the bottles with soil.
  2. We put them in several layers on a pillow of sand and gravel.
  3. We tie the bottles with wire.

Preparing clay mortar

Stage 1. Mix the straw with sand and clay.

Stage 2. Add water to the mixture and stir the contents of the container.

Stage 3. Roll small balls out of the solution with our hands.

Stage 4. We put the balls on the previously prepared frame, thus forming the outlines of the future bench.

Stage 5. Cover the finished bench with polyethylene so that the solution gradually dries up and does not crack.

It is believed that clay benches can last up to a hundred years without losing their attractive appearance. In addition, this is a fairly economical option that will surely add originality to any garden.

Choose the option that will fit well into the garden area and will bring maximum satisfaction.

Video - Garden benches

One of the attributes of a garden or recreation area on a suburban area is a bench, sitting on which you can read a book alone or, conversely, spend a few fun hours with friends. How to make an ordinary bench comfortable and at the same time turn into an element of garden decor? The way out is simple - a do-it-yourself bench for a summer residence. Only your own exclusive creation will fully satisfy your personal aesthetic needs.

Before you start a sketch or drawing of a product, you need to think about the place of its installation. The material of manufacture also depends on this. For example, in an old garden with large branchy trees, a wooden bench in a wrought-iron frame looks good (as an option - a product made of a log on a stone base), and in a young garden there is a light, even openwork bench in a romantic style.

A small white bench stands out in contrast against a dark green hedge.

If placed in a quiet secluded corner, near or surrounded by flowering flower beds, it will become a wonderful place of solitude and relaxation, where you can spend a few pleasant minutes alone with yourself after a labor "warm-up" in the beds.

An old brick wall, a gray wood bench and flowers look mysterious and romantic

Benches are often an integral part of verandas, gazebos, summer picnic areas. In this case, there should be several products designed in the same style. One example is a garden table with two benches on the sides, where you can have a family tea party or play board games on a summer evening.

Deliberately rough and comfortable wooden structure - a table, two benches and an armchair

It is better to install the bench in such a way that it opens a view not of a neighbor's fence or garage, but of a pond, a flower garden or. The surrounding picture should be pleasing to the eye, not a reminder that it is necessary to refuel the car or renew the paint on the gazebo. It is also appropriate to arrange benches on the playground, by the pool, near the main entrance to the house.

A bench by the pond surrounded by flowers and greenery is a great place to relax and think

One of the best places is in the garden, near the beds. It is better if the bench will stand in the shade, for example, under a spreading crown of a tree or under a canopy, since it is intended for rest from physical labor - digging, weeding, watering or harvesting.

Relaxing in the shade of a flowering bush is a real pleasure

You can think of a decorative frame: a do-it-yourself garden bench looks good surrounded by low flowering bushes, specially arranged flower beds, on a small hill or on a platform made of natural stone or.

Preparatory work is half the battle

First you need to take a piece of paper and make a sketch or drawing of the proposed product. Even at this stage, questions may arise: what height will be optimal or how many legs should the bench have? There are general standards that should be followed during chart design:

  • 400 mm - 500 mm - seat height;
  • 500 mm - 550 mm - seat width;
  • 350 mm - 500 mm - back height.

If you are planning to create a product with a back, you should determine for yourself how the back will be attached to the seat. Depending on whether the bench is portable or not, the legs are planned: for a non-portable product, they are firmly fixed in the ground.

It is not difficult to fix the legs of the bench: it is necessary to dig holes of the required size and fill them with cement mortar, lowering wooden parts there

According to the drawing, you can estimate how much material is required for work. Usually, a minimum of financial investment is spent on a product of this kind: in the country there are always a lot of wooden blanks left over from the construction of a house or a bath, fasteners (screws, nails, bolts, staples), paints and varnishes for wood processing.

If you collect the remains of wooden products and blanks from all over the country house, you can come up with an unusual model

There is also the necessary tool in the back room. If the main material for manufacturing is wood, you should prepare: a plane, a saw, a jigsaw, a hammer, sandpaper, a tape measure and a pencil.

Bench making: six easy projects

You will never go wrong by choosing a tree for work - a soft, pliable in processing and at the same time durable material that can serve for more than a dozen years. From wood, you can create elements of various shapes and sizes, curly inserts, volumetric and miniature details.

Project # 1 - a simple bench with a back

If you have difficulty drawing up a sketch, you can use a ready-made drawing of a garden bench.

All parts are cut according to the dimensions in the drawing

This bench is traditional for city parks; similar specimens can be found at river stations, near theaters or shopping centers - in those places where you have to spend some time waiting. The advantage of this option is the simplicity of the preparation of parts and the speed of assembly. For work, you will need thick bars for support (3 large and 3 smaller), bars or boards for the seat and back.

The color of the parts can be changed using an impregnation or varnish of a darker shade

This model is portable - it can always be rearranged to another, more convenient place. To ensure that it always stands level and does not sway, when installing the supports, it is necessary to monitor the exact location of the parts - even a slight discrepancy will cause the product to skew.

At the end of the work - and this applies to any wood product located on the street - all wooden parts must be treated with a special impregnation against mold or varnished, also containing protective components. Treated wood does not lend itself to moisture, lasts longer and looks like new for a long time.

Project no. 2 - bench in classic style

This option is more solid than the previous one. A bench with a rectangular seat and the same back looks great against the background of a house built of any material - wood, brick, stone.

Assembly diagram of armrests and bench backs in classic style

For a change, you can change the color, choose a shade that is closer to country buildings. The back of such a bench is a real find for those who like to dream up and embody their ideas in wood. Straight vertical bars can be replaced with criss-cross bars.

Several people can easily fit on such a bench.

The top horizontal bar would look good if covered with delicate carvings or colored ornamentation. Armrests and legs can also be curly - but it all depends on the desire and skill of the master. To make such a bench for a summer residence, it will take only a few evenings, and you can enjoy your vacation on it for more than one year.

Project number 3 - a table with benches

The family garden set consists of a comfortable table and two fixed benches.

A comfortable and practical table with a couple of benches will come in handy at any cottage

All large parts (table, benches) are assembled separately, and then assembled into a single whole using 4 lower bars - 2 on each side.

At the last stage, the benches are first fixed - to give the structure stability, then - the table, exactly in the middle.

Initial assembly - joining benches

Simple in appearance, but comfortable table will become a gathering place for family and friends in the evenings - for communication, evening tea, relaxation.

Such a table with benches can be placed directly on the lawn

Variety of materials, shapes and styles

Wood is a traditional, “warm” material for making benches, which is why wood products are so different. Instead of bars processed on machines, you can take natural material of natural forms - and this is not just a bench, but a real masterpiece.

The original bench is made from large pieces of sawn and processed logs

It turns out that there are stone benches, but they are appreciated not for functionality, but for aesthetics. You want to sit on a stone product only in the warm season, but you can admire it constantly.

Small stone bench blends harmoniously with the floral landscape

They look refined and elegant, but only a professional blacksmith can create a garden bench with their own hands from metal.

A wrought-iron bench among the riotous colors looks more than appropriate

Combined benches and benches, built of stone and wood or decorated with textile items - capes, pillows, look interesting.

Small pillows in pink and white tones, neatly laid out on the bench, make the garden corner cozy and homely

That's all for today. We hope you found something helpful. If you have any questions or wishes - you are welcome in the comments.

Garden furniture is necessary to equip a resting place at your summer cottage at your discretion. Photos of benches in the garden look attractive. Any master can make such furniture himself.

First you need to decide on the choice of material for the future product and choose a suitable design solution.

Materials for work

A garden bench can be made from various materials. Each of them has its own advantages.

Plastic bench

This piece of furniture has many advantages. Plastic products are affordable, do not require special care, and are easy to disassemble and assemble. Today, plastic is presented in a wide range of colors.

However, there are also disadvantages. A plastic item looks cheaper than a wooden item. Under the influence of direct sunlight, it quickly burns out, and its surface can deform.

Wood for garden furniture

To make original benches for a summer residence, craftsmen often use wood. The wood is easy to process, the material looks noble, and installation does not take much time.

The main requirements are the absence of defects and good drying.

Stone products

The naturalness of the material is its indisputable advantage; it attracts with its natural beauty. In finished products, it looks luxurious and stylish.

Objects made of natural stone are easy to make with your own hands. However, the material has not only advantages, but also disadvantages:

  • It is unhealthy to sit on a cold stone.
  • The installation of the bench is carried out exclusively stationary.

What about metal?

Metal benches are a great decoration for a recreation area. The cold forging method, like the hot forging method, allows you to create beautiful designs.

In addition, metal works well with glass or wood.

What should be the ideal shop?

Among all the requirements, the main ones can be distinguished:

  • Comfort. The bench needs to be ergonomic. A bench with a back is a good option.
  • The product must cope with serious loads. The master needs to choose exclusively high-quality materials and accessories.

Bench design features

A summer resident who wants to improve the landscape around the house should know how to make a shop with his own hands. You must first determine the dimensions.

Dimensions - 1.5 mx0.4 m, height - 0.45 m (seat) and 900 m (back). The back is made at an angle of 18 or 20 degrees. It is important to correctly complete the drawings of the shop, then the work will not argue.

The master will need to prepare the following:

  • Primer, varnish;
  • Special sandpaper for wood;
  • Screwdriver;
  • Electric planer;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Self-tapping screws 40X40;
  • Blanks for front and rear legs, as well as for backrest holders;
  • Wooden boards with dimensions 1500X150 and thickness from 35 mm to 40 mm.

Making a structure out of wood with your own hands

It is good when the market manages to find boards with the required dimensions.

When there was no suitable option on the construction market, the master will have to arm himself with a jigsaw in order to cut the material himself. A miter saw will help speed up the process.

Note!

Finished workpieces must be processed. The surface of the seat back boards needs to be sanded. The ends are processed using an electric planer, the best option is to make them with a rounded shape.

The next step is to give the required angle of inclination, in this case we are talking about the rear legs of the bench. These elements serve as a framework. Marking is applied to the prepared parts.

We measure the height - 0.4 m. It is necessary to make a cut equal to 20 degrees to form an angle of inclination. Between the legs of the bench in front and behind, the distance should be 0.28 m. A bar with a size of 0.5 m connects the legs. It is better when the strapping is performed not only from above, but also from below.

The sides are connected as soon as the assembly of the main parts is completed. The boards are fastened with self-tapping screws to the strapping bars that are on top. Gaps are left between the workpieces to drain moisture.

When installing the backrest, the board that goes first is attached at a distance of 0.2 m from the seat, and the second - 0.38 m.

Note!

You can start finishing the product. For this, impregnation with varnish for outdoor use is used. Such means will help to provide reliable protection against any harmful actions from the outside.

How do I create a metal structure?

The master will be able to create a comfortable place for the recreation area using the cold forging technique. It is better to start with models that have angular shapes, they are easier to manufacture.

Detailed instructions

We decide on the dimensions (length - 1.5 m, height - 0.8 or 0.9 m, width - 0.4 or 0.5 m).

We make blanks for the frame from a cut pipe. You will need to prepare 2 segments with dimensions of 0.4 m and 2 more fragments of 1.5 m each. We connect these parts in a rectangle and weld them. To make the structure more durable, we weld 2 stiffeners.

To make blanks for the legs, we cut the metal pipe into 4 parts, the length of each should be 0.4 m. The blanks are attached to the corners of the bench. To strengthen the legs, stiffeners are additionally installed.

Note!

To make the back, you will need 2 blanks. The length of one should be 1.5 m, and the other -0.44 mm. We weld the blanks for the backrest together and weld to the seat. We must not forget about the angle of inclination. For the rest to be comfortable, it must be at least 15 or 20 degrees.

The back can also be reinforced with stiffening ribs.

At the last stage, the seams are cleaned. The surface of the frame is coated with a primer.

If you plan to make a product with curly elements, then completing such a task will take more time.

DIY photo shop

Among the small architectural forms, benches and benches are the most common. Can be made from any materials or combinations thereof: wood, metal, stone, concrete, plastic, glass.

They are everywhere: streets and squares of cities, parks and squares, sports and educational institutions, public institutions and residential premises. An almost indispensable element of landscape design, a plot of a private house or summer cottage.

The easiest and most affordable material to process is wood. Do-it-yourself wooden benches make it possible to save money, demonstrate homemade craftsmanship and be a creator.

Wooden benches: economy option

Make wooden benches using already existing "blanks". It is enough to process it a little, to assemble a strong and functional structure - with a seat, back and legs.

Moreover, such "modules" are inexpensive, sometimes purchased for "pennies". We are talking about pallets, or pallets.

But not everyone is suitable for garden furniture. You should not use products from off-grade or unedged boards. In the first case, large knots may fall out, in the second, “aesthetic” qualities suffer.

There are cases when the step of fixing the board is clearly not suitable for a bench.

The pallet is a wonderful donor for the shop

A pallet is better suited, as in the photo. With a corner chamfer removed along the contour.

The pallet width is large for the bench seating. It needs to be cut, the rest can go to the backrest device.

If there is not enough backrest for the width, then the bench will have to be made of two pallets.

The seats and backrest are part of the structure. We need legs. We will make the pallet itself from the board.

  • the bench may not be stable

rigidity is provided by the seat, and the foot mounting area is quite small. Usually, a lower ligament is added so that they do not "part". A simpler option is to use another pallet as a base (more precisely, part of it)

or two. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood in detail and understandable.

The fixation of the backrest, as can be seen from the examples, can be carried out using a pair of slats, a board, a rope or rope. The assembled bench, its surface is cleaned, polished, varnished or painted.

You can not cut the pallets to the width and make a garden sofa.

There are examples of using pallet boards for manufacturing and other products from the class of small architectural forms. The photo also shows flowerpots.

It is not necessary to spend time dismantling pallets, but rather buy standard lumber.

Simple bench shapes: board and timber

There are designs and versions - from the simplest to specimens with wood carvings, worthy of being called real works of applied art.

The easiest option for manufacturing is a wooden bench without a back.

The drawing shows a do-it-yourself wood bench, completely made of a board with a thickness of 75 mm.

A bench made of boards and beams

Each element consists of two parts.

The seat with beveled ends is assembled from two boards. If the bench will stand in an open area or outside a heated room, it is better to provide a gap. It will allow water to drain and compensate for the swelling of the tree.

The leg consists of two glued elements. For the reliability of the end connection, a pin (dowel) is inserted. Two short support beams and seat mountings are attached to the leg. Legs and beams are connected with grooves, fixed with glue and self-tapping screws. When assembled, the leg and the beam are attached to the seat board with two pairs of self-tapping screws and dowels, holes are drilled for them in advance.

Assembly order

1. Cut out the workpiece;

2. The ends are processed and the surfaces for gluing are cleaned;

3. Glue the legs;

4. Beams are attached to them;

5. Assemble the shop;

6. Grind and varnish (or paint).

Images and drawings of a bench made of a 30 mm board with a support beam.

Bench made of 30 mm board with support beam

There are already curly elements in the form of legs with radius cutouts. You can make it easier to work and make them rectangular. A drawing is not a dogma - it can be taken as a basis and changed towards simplification or towards complication. They do the same with sizes - they make the shop wider, shorter, etc.

What is the difference between this option and the previous one?

One long support beam is used instead of four short ones; it also performs the function of a stiffener for the base - the legs and the whole structure are more stable. The connection of the legs and the beam goes through the tenon-groove, and the tenon is much easier to cut out. That is, such a shape is a little easier to manufacture, more stable and gives more room for experimentation.

Below are several options for a similar design, but in a different design.

For example, in the style of minimalism - there are not even protruding edges. Splicing according to the thorn-groove principle is used to connect the legs and the seat.

In this model, the task was simplified as much as possible - they even refused to cut grooves and spikes. In this case, the connection between the legs and the beam is better done using confirmations, and not self-tapping screws (they have a larger contact area). For strength, a pair of dowels are usually added on each side, set on glue. The hidden fastening of the seat is made on a dowel, open - on a self-tapping screw.

If the bench is not very long, then the beam can be placed at the bottom. In such a design, it performs exclusively the role of a stiffener.

In the photo below you can see an unusual case of using a dowel - it attaches the beam to the legs not with a hidden installation, but open.

In this bench, a block was attracted to "help" the board.

Legs with crossbars and two oblique seat supports are made of it. All fasteners are made on confirmations, and the connection of the bar of the legs to each other is carried out using grooves.

Here, too, a block is used for the base. Thanks to the thick seat board, it does not require additional support. The bottom beam serves as a stiffener.

Making a small bench with a back is not much more difficult. The principle of installation and fasteners is similar to simple benches: grooves, spikes, dowels, glue, self-tapping screws and confirmations.

You can take a construction with "solid" legs from the board as a basis. Move them a little from the center to the edge so that the ends of the seat and the legs are in the same plane. Attach vertical beams to the legs and screw the back to them.

Bench with carved back

For a model whose base is made of a bar, the back is even easier to make. Two pairs of legs: front - for supporting the seat, rear (high) - for attaching the support beam, seat and back.

These were lightweight and "mobile" designs of benches and benches made of wood, which can be used with equal success in an open area, under a canopy or indoors. There are more massive forms oriented towards "stationary" placement.

Benches: large format

Making a wooden bench with your own hands for a summer residence involves the use of any form of material. Including those that are used in the construction of wooden houses.

For example, timber. For reference: a timber is classified as such if the aspect ratio is not more than 1: 2, and the smaller side has a size of 100 mm or more. Reducing the size translates such lumber into the "bar" category.

It is not easy to assemble such a bench as in this photo with your own hands, but it is possible.

The assembly of the legs is, in principle, not difficult. The only difference from a board and a bar is that more powerful fasteners are required. For example, such self-tapping bolts for wood.

Under their head, you will have to expand the hole (but confirmations also require this) and put a washer.

Installation and installation of the seat is much more difficult.

For the "bundle" of the beam, three metal pins are required, with a length almost as wide as the seat, and two - for the width of the bench, taking into account the legs. It is difficult to find such on sale - you will have to make them from round fittings (stainless steel). The gap between the timber can be maintained using wooden plates from the board, strung on the studs. The thickness of the plates should be the same as the three supporting vertical beams that support the seat in the center of the bench.

And this specimen is made of an even more powerful bar (150 × 100). Its assembly is much easier. The two seat beams are attached from below through short crossbeams, which are then mounted to the T-legs.

Another easy-to-follow example using a large-format board. The bearing capacity of the material is such that it does not require the use of reinforcing beams - the seat is attached to the ends of the short legs. The author of the project knows very well that the most rigid geometric figure is a triangle. Therefore, the configuration of the lower part of the supports, and their connection with each other by bolts, has the shape of an equilateral triangle.

If it is possible to order two non-standard wooden beams, then making such a bench with your own hands will not be difficult: you will need to "add" four short beams (100 × 100) for the legs and two bars (100 × 50) for the back.

Bench from a bar

But if this is not possible, then instead of a non-standard bar, you can use a pair of standard ones.

Such a garden bench made of wood with its own hands already uses logs.

The most difficult thing in this option is to make a longitudinal groove and a spike for connecting the logs with an ax (or an adze). For reliable fixation, you will need another pair of pins on each side (this is the same dowel, but only thicker and longer). The seat and back can be made of a board (as in the photo) or a bar. Do-it-yourself benches, wooden benches - ideas and solutions.

And this version of the shop is already more complicated.

But not really. The main difficulty is to make a back, or rather a notch on it. All fastenings of parts of the structure pass between themselves by means of pins.

In principle, such wooden fasteners are quite strong - log cabins of a couple of floors (including wooden churches) were previously built without a single nail.

And a very simple option: two logs with a groove and half a log, sawn lengthwise.

Wooden bench

In conclusion, a couple of examples of how you can make a bench out of wood, but not purchased, but found in the nearest planting or forest. Do-it-yourself benches, benches made of wood from auxiliary material.

In this example, only the seat is made of plank, everything else is made of natural material, which had to be selected in thickness and adjusted to size.

To make the seat of such a bench, you need a professional tool, so you will either have to order a longitudinal sawing of a log, or (which is easier) take an unedged board as a blank.
